The complex admittance of metal/oxide/pentacene thin film junctions is investigated under ambient conditions. At low frequencies, a contribution attributed to proton diffusion through the oxide is seen. This diffusion is shown to be anomalous and is believed to be also at the origin of the bias stress effect observed in organic field effect transistors. At higher frequencies, two dipolar contributions are evidenced, attributed to defects located one at the organic/oxide interface or within the organic, and the other in the bulk of the oxide. These two dipolar responses show different dynamic properties that manifest themselves in the admittance in the form of a Debye contribution for the defects located in the oxide, and of a Cole-Cole contribution for the defects related to the organic., Comment: Organic Electronics, in press

- Abstract
High-resolution spectra corresponding to the rotational and the ν
2 –ν2 bands of the two most abundant isotopic species of ozone with one heavy18 O oxygen atom were recorded using SOLEIL synchrotron radiation source in the range 30–200 cm−1 . Additionally, the ν2 vibrational-rotational bands were recorded between 550 and 880 cm−1 using a classical glowbar source that made it possible to extend and refine information compared to published data on the observed transitions of these bands. The analyses of recorded spectra permitted us to deduce experimental set of energy levels for the ground (000) and the first bending (010) vibrational states, which significantly exceeds literature data in terms of rotational quantum numbers. For both isotopic species, the weighted fits of all experimental line positions were carried out including previously published microwave data. As a result of this work, the improved values of rotational and centrifugal distortion parameters for the states (000) and (010) were obtained that permitted modelling the experimental line positions with a weighted standard deviation of 1.284 (2235 transitions) and 0.908 (4597 transitions), respectively, for16 O16 O18 O, and 1.168 (824 transitions) and 1.724 (2381 transitions) for16 O18 O16 O. Context. Until recently, camera networks designed for monitoring fireballs worldwide were not fully automated, implying that in case of a meteorite fall, the recovery campaign was rarely immediate. This was an important limiting factor as the most fragile - hence precious - meteorites must be recovered rapidly to avoid their alteration. Aims. The Fireball Recovery and InterPlanetary Observation Network (FRIPON) scientific project was designed to overcome this limitation. This network comprises a fully automated camera and radio network deployed over a significant fraction of western Europe and a small fraction of Canada. As of today, it consists of 150 cameras and 25 European radio receivers and covers an area of about 1.5 × 10km. Methods. The FRIPON network, fully operational since 2018, has been monitoring meteoroid entries since 2016, thereby allowing the characterization of their dynamical and physical properties. In addition, the level of automation of the network makes it possible to trigger a meteorite recovery campaign only a few hours after it reaches the surface of the Earth. Recovery campaigns are only organized for meteorites with final masses estimated of at least 500 g, which is about one event per year in France. No recovery campaign is organized in the case of smaller final masses on the order of 50 to 100 g, which happens about three times a year; instead, the information is delivered to the local media so that it can reach the inhabitants living in the vicinity of the fall. Results. Nearly 4000 meteoroids have been detected so far and characterized by FRIPON. The distribution of their orbits appears to be bimodal, with a cometary population and a main belt population. Sporadic meteors amount to about 55% of all meteors. A first estimate of the absolute meteoroid flux (mag < -5; meteoroid size ≥∼1 cm) amounts to 1250/yr/10km. This value is compatible with previous estimates. Finally, the first meteorite was recovered in Italy (Cavezzo, January 2020) thanks to the PRISMA network, a component of the FRIPON science project., FRIPON was initiated by funding from ANR (grant N.13- BS05-0009-03), carried by the Paris Observatory, Muséum National d’Histoire Naturelle, Paris-Saclay University and Institut Pythéas (LAM-CEREGE). VigieCiel was part of the 65 Millions d’Observateurs project, carried by the Muséum National d’Histoire Naturelle and funded by the French Investissements d’Avenir program. FRIPON data are hosted and processed at Institut Pythéas SIP (Service Informatique Pythéas), and a mirror is hosted at IMCCE (Institut de Mécanique Céleste et de Calcul des Éphémérides / Paris Observatory) with the help of IDOC (https://idoc.ias.u-psud.fr) (Integrated Data and Operation Center), supported by CNRS and CNES. PRISMA is the Italian Network for Systematic surveillance of Meteors and Atmosphere. It is a collaboration initiated and coordinated by the Italian National Institute for Astrophysics (INAF) that counts members among research institutes, associations and schools (http://www.prisma.inaf.it). PRISMA was partially funded by 2016 and 2020 Research and Education grants from Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Torino and by a 2016 grant from Fondazione Agostino De Mari (Savona). FRIPON-Bilbao is supported by a grant from Diputacion Foral Bizkaia (DFB/BFA). FRIPONMOROI was supported by a grant of the Romanian Ministery of Research and Innovation, CCCDI - UEFISCDI, project number PN-III-P1-1.2-PCCDI2017-0226/16PCCDI/2018 , within PNCDI III. Rio de Janeiro camera is hosted and partially maintained by MAST (Museum of Astronomy and Related Sciences)/MCTIC. The Meteorix project acknowledges supports from labex ESEP (Exploration Spatiale des Environnements Planétaires), DIM-ACAV+ Région Île-de-France, Janus CNES, IDEX Sorbonne Universités and Sorbonne Université.

[SPI]Engineering Sciences [physics] - Abstract

Pulsed quantum-cascade-laser spectrometers are usually used to detect atmospheric gases with either the interpulse technique (short pulses, typically 5–20 ns) or the intrapulse technique (long pulses, typically 500–800 ns). Each of these techniques has its drawbacks. Particularly the gas absorption spectra are generally distorted. We have previously developed another technique called intermediate-size pulses (typically 50–100 ns) technique for gas detection using pulsed QCL spectrometers. In this paper, infrared spectra of ammonia recorded with this technique in the 10 μm region are presented. For the NH3 spectra recorded at low pressure (i.e. in the mbar range), the spectra show typical oscillations after the absorption. The Beer–Lambert law cannot explain these oscillations, termed the rapid-passage effect. Comparisons between experimental and calculated spectra will be realized. This phenomenon is not satisfactory from a spectroscopic point of view and spectra must be recorded at higher pressures. For the NH3 spectra recorded at higher pressure (i.e. in the 50 mbar range), the oscillations disappear and the Beer–Lambert law could be reused. This paper will demonstrate that the intermediate-size technique gives reliable measurements for NH3 detection. Moreover the typical apparatus function (0.003 cm−1 HWHM) is far lower from the typical apparatus function of the interpulse QCL spectrometers (0.015 cm−1 HWHM). [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The same quantum cascade laser spectrometer working around 9 μm was used in both continuous-wave and pulsed modes to compare their own characteristics. The laser emitting in continuous-wave mode was mainly used to study some spectroscopic parameters of SO2 ro-vibrational lines. This work demonstrates the necessity to use new calculations previously developed instead of conventional databases such as HITRAN. In addition, the same laser emitting in pulsed mode with long pulses (600 to 900 ns) was used to record SO2 spectra with the intrapulse technique. This work permits us to make comparisons about those two modes of emission for the development of future spectrometers. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Context. Until recently, camera networks designed for monitoring fireballs worldwide were not fully automated, implying that in case of a meteorite fall, the recovery campaign was rarely immediate. This was an important limiting factor as the most fragile – hence precious – meteorites must be recovered rapidly to avoid their alteration. Aims. The Fireball Recovery and InterPlanetary Observation Network (FRIPON) scientific project was designed to overcome this limitation. This network comprises a fully automated camera and radio network deployed over a significant fraction of western Europe and a small fraction of Canada. As of today, it consists of 150 cameras and 25 European radio receivers and covers an area of about 1.5 × 106 km2. A first estimate of the absolute meteoroid flux (mag < –5; meteoroid size ≥~1 cm) amounts to 1250/yr/106 km

- Abstract
A first estimate of the absolute meteoroid flux (mag < –5; meteoroid size ≥~1 cm) amounts to 1250/yr/106 km

- Abstract
This paper presents a first demonstration of range-resolved differential absorption LIDAR (DIAL) measurements of the water vapor main isotopologue H
2 16 O and the less abundant semi-heavy water isotopologue HD16 O with the aim of determining the isotopic ratio. The presented Water Vapor and Isotope Lidar (WaVIL) instrument is based on a parametric laser source emitting nanosecond pulses at 1.98 µm and a direct-detection receiver utilizing a commercial InGaAs PIN photodiode. Vertical profiles of H2 16 O and HD16 O were acquired in the planetary boundary layer in the suburban Paris region up to a range of 1.5 km. For time averaging over 25 min, the achieved precision in the retrieved water vapor mixing ratio is 0.1 g kg-1 (2.5% relative error) at 0.4 km above ground level (a.g.l.) and 0.6 g kg-1 (20%) at 1 km a.g.l. for 150 m range bins along the LIDAR line of sight. For HD16 O, weaker absorption has to be balanced with coarser vertical resolution (600 m range bins) in order to achieve similar relative precision. From the DIAL measurements of H2 16 O and HD16 O, the isotopic abundance δD was estimated as -51‰ at 0.4 km above the ground and -119‰ in the upper part of the boundary layer at 1.3 km a.g.l. Random and systematic errors are discussed in the form of an error budget, which shows that further instrumental improvements are required on the challenging path towards DIAL-profiling of the isotopic abundance with range resolution and precision suitable for water cycle studies.- Published

- Abstract
Space-based active sensing of CO(2) concentration is a very promising technique for the derivation of CO(2) surface fluxes. There is a need for accurate spectroscopic parameters to enable accurate space-based measurements to address global climatic issues. New spectroscopic measurements using laser diode absorption spectroscopy are presented for the preselected R30 CO(2) absorption line ((20(0)1)(III)<--(000) band) and four others. The line strength, air-broadening halfwidth, and its temperature dependence have been investigated. The results exhibit significant improvement for the R30 CO(2) absorption line: 0.4% on the line strength, 0.15% on the air-broadening coefficient, and 0.45% on its temperature dependence. Analysis of potential biases of space-based DIAL CO(2) mixing ratio measurements associated to spectroscopic parameter uncertainties are presented.

- Abstract
Pulsed quantum-cascade-laser (QCL) spectrometers are usually used to detect atmospheric gases with either the interpulse technique (short pulses, typically 5-20 ns) or the intrapulse technique (long pulses, typically 500-800 ns). Each of these techniques has many drawbacks, which we present. Particularly the gas absorption spectra are generally distorted. We demonstrate the possibility to use intermediate pulses (typically 50-100 ns) for gas detection using pulsed QCL spectrometers. IR spectra of ammonia recorded in the 10 microm region are presented in various conditions of pulse emission. These experiences demonstrate the large influence of the pulse shape on the recorded spectrum and the importance to use our alternative method for gas detection with pulsed QCL spectrometers.
