1. Menopause or Chronologic Aging? A Prospective Cohort Study on Risk Factors for Coronary Heart Disease in Middle-aged Women

Abstract

Background Menopause will cause series of pathophysiologic changes and long-term complications (coronary heart disease, cerebrovascular disease, osteoporosis, etc.), among which coronary heart disease is a major health threat. Objective To investigate the effects of menopausal status and aging on common risk factors for coronary heart disease (CHD) in middle-aged women, such as increased carotid intima-media thickness (CIMT), hypertension, dyslipidemia, diabetes, and obesity. Methods A total of 556 healthy premenopausal women aged 45 to 54 years who received regular physical examinations at the physical examination center of Beijing Shijitan Hospital affiliated to Capital Medical University in 2018 were initially selected, with 89 excluded according to relevant criteria, and 467 women were finally included as study subjects. The included subjects were divided into the pre-menopausal group (n=176) and postmenopausal group (n=291) according to whether they were postmenopausal during a 3-year follow-up period. Changes in BMI, waist circumference, blood glucose, blood pressure, blood lipids and other indicators were monitored, inter- and intra-group comparisons were performed before and after the follow-up period. Multivariate Logistic regression analysis was used to explore the effects of menopausal status and age on the incidence of risk factors for coronary heart disease in middle-aged women. Results The average age of 467 subjects was (47.6±2.3) years old. 27. Co-simulation of algebraically coupled dynamic subsystems without disclosure of proprietary subsystem models

Abstract

A method for simultaneously running a collection of dynamic simulators coupled by algebraic boundary conditions is presented. Dynamic interactions between subsystems are simulated without disclosing proprietary information about the subsystem models, as all the computations are performed based on input-output numerical data of encapsulated subsystem simulators coded by independent groups. First, this paper describes a system of interacting subsystems with a causal conflict as a high-index, Differential-Algebraic Equation (DAE), and develops a systematic solution method using Discrete-Time Sliding Mode control. Stability and convergence conditions as well as error bounds are analyzed by using nonlinear control theory. Second, the algorithm is modified such that the subsystem simulator does not have to disclose its internal model and state variables for solving the overall DAE. The new algorithm is developed based on the generalized Kirchhoff Laws that allow us to represent algebraic boundary constraints as linear equations of the subsystems' outputs interacting to each other. Third, a multi-rate algorithm is developed for improving efficiency, accuracy, and convergence characteristics. Abstract

Summary Background & aims Many studies have demonstrated ω-3PUFA has anti-tumor effect, our previous study further proved that together with chemotherapy drug, PUFA can enhance chemotherapy sensitivity as well as anti-tumor effect. This study will further investigate the mechanism of enhancing chemotherapy sensitivity. Methods In vitro cultivate human gastric cell line MGC-803, set 3 different contrast trials: control group-A, chemotherapy group-B (5-FU), n-PUFA with chemotherapy (5-FU) group-C. Compare 3 groups cells’ NF-κB activation status with dual-luciferase reporter assay and bioluminescent measurements, by using transient cotransfection with plasmid pNFκB-TK-Luc and internal control plasmid pRL-TK in MGC-803 cells. Meanwhile, compare 3 groups of the mRNA and protein expression of MMP-2, COX2, CyclinD1, which are the downstream regulation gene of NF-κB transduction pathway. Results NF-κB transduction was obviously activated in chemotherapy group-B, compared to the control group-A. However, in group-C, n-PUFA can blunt the NF-κB activation induced by chemotherapy. Meanwhile, the NF-κB’s downstream regulation genes, MMP-2, COX2 and CyclinD1 were also inhibited. Conclusions ω-3PUFA can enhance chemotherapy sensitivity through inhibition of NF-κB transduction way. This study suggests a new concept of using clinical combination chemotherapy.

43. Numerical Simulation of the Effect of Protection Layer Mining on the Underlying Strata.

Abstract

Protection layer mining is an effective gas control measure, in which a protection layer adjacent to the high outburst risk layer is removed first before mining the latter. The failure of protected underlying coal seam affected by the stoping of upper protection layer is analyzed in this paper. For a particular mine, the physical and mechanical parameters and geological characteristics of the underlying strata beneath the working face of the protection layer are investigated first, before numerical model of the studied area is established with FLAC3D simulation software to simulate the stress and deformation field variation during the stoping of the upper protection layer. The simulation results reveal the onset and stabilization of shear failure and tensile failure as the working face advances in the overlying stratum. The protected coal seam area begins unloading, producing a large number of cracks penetrating into the protection layer, and gas migration through these cracks leads to the increased permeability of coal seam. The pressure relief and permeability enhancement effect on the protected strata by the protection layer is verified, providing a reference for stoping of the protection layer. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Room-temperature Raman and PL spectra, photocurrent (PC) and thermally stimulated current (TSC) were measured to investigate the mid-gap defects in diamonds grown by using a hot-filament chemical vapour deposition (CVD) technique. The [Si–V]0 centres caused by the Si–C bonds in diamond grains and at grain boundaries are located at 1.68 eV. We firstly detect the level 1.55 eV by using PL and it is tentatively attributed to the zero-phonon luminescence line or vibronic band of the [Si–V]0 induced by the Si-O bonds. The 2.7–3.2 eV and 1.9–2.1 eV PC peaks were detected and discussed. The [N–V] complex may be attributed to these defect levels. Some shallow energy levels lower than 1.0 eV were also observed in the CVD diamond.

Abstract

Diamond films with [100] texture were prepared by a hot-filament chemical vapour deposition technique to fabricate particle detectors. The response of detectors to 5.5 MeV 241Am particles is studied. The photocurrent increases linearly and then levels off with voltage, and 7 nA is obtained at bias voltage of 100 V. The time-dependent photocurrent initially increases rapidly and then tends to reach saturation. Furthermore, a little increase of the dark-current after irradiation can be accounted for by the release of the charges captured by the trapping centres at low energy levels during irradiation. An obvious peak of the pulse height distribution can be observed, associated with the energy of 5.5 MeV.
