Orthognathic surgery consultation is essential to help patients understand the changes to their facial appearance after surgery. However, current visualization methods are often inefficient and inaccurate due to limited pre- and post-treatment data and the complexity of the treatment. To overcome these challenges, this study aims to develop a fully automated pipeline that generates accurate and efficient 3D previews of postsurgical facial appearances for patients with orthognathic treatment without requiring additional medical images. The study introduces novel aesthetic losses, such as mouth-convexity and asymmetry losses, to improve the accuracy of facial surgery prediction. Additionally, it proposes a specialized parametric model for 3D reconstruction of the patient, medical-related losses to guide latent code prediction network optimization, and a data augmentation scheme to address insufficient data. The study additionally employs FLAME, a parametric model, to enhance the quality of facial appearance previews by extracting facial latent codes and establishing dense correspondences between pre- and post-surgery geometries. Quantitative comparisons showed the algorithm's effectiveness, and qualitative results highlighted accurate facial contour and detail predictions. A user study confirmed that doctors and the public could not distinguish between machine learning predictions and actual postoperative results. Over the past decade, parity-time (PT) symmetry and anti-PT (APT) symmetry in various physical systems have been extensively studied, leading to significant experimental and theoretical advancements. However, physical systems that simultaneously exhibit both PT and APT symmetry have not yet been explored. In this study, we construct a phase-sensitive non-Hermitian wave mixing model that inherently possesses single-mode APT symmetry. By tuning the phase of the pump field, this model simultaneously exhibits two-mode quadrature-PT symmetry. Moreover, the APT phase transition is accompanied by the emergence of quantum entanglement from absence to presence. This remarkable quantum effect, quantum entanglement, which distinguishes itself from classical physics, is surprisingly linked to APT symmetry phase transition. Our work further explores the relationship between two-mode quantum entanglement and the phase of the pump field, offering deeper insight into the generation and evolution of entanglement in the corresponding nonlinear system. This provides a new perspective on quantum information processing.

The buried interface between the electron transport layer and the perovskite layer suffers from severe interface defects and imperfect energy level alignment. To address this issue, this study employs a multifunctional organic molecule, curcumin, to modify the interface between SnO2 and the perovskite layer. The functional groups on curcumin effectively passivate the defects on both sides of the interface, reducing -OH and oxygen vacancy defects on the SnO2 surface and passivating uncoordinated Pb2+ in the perovskite layer. This results in a more compatible energy level alignment and lower defect density at the interface, enhancing carrier transport across it. Consequently, the devices based on curcumin achieve an impressive champion power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 24.46%, compared to 22.03% for control devices. This work demonstrates a simple, green, hydrophobic, and efficient molecular modification method for the buried interface, laying the foundation for the development of high-performance and stable perovskite solar cells.

Ultrathin metasurface holograms, with thicknesses comparable to the operating wavelength, leverage multiple degrees of freedom of light to address independent image channels, thereby significantly enhancing information capacity. Although the wavelength of light can be used to encode holographic image channels, high-capacity wavelength-multiplexing holography has traditionally been achieved only through 3D volume holograms based on Bragg diffraction. We demonstrate ultranarrow-linewidth wavelength-vortex multiplexing holography in ultrathin metasurface holograms. By applying dispersion engineering to the elementary grating functions of a multiplexing hologram, we develop a sparse k-vector-filtering aperture array in momentum space that achieves sharp wavelength selectivity in conjunction with orbital angular momentum selectivity. Further leveraging transformer neural networks for the design of phase-only multiplexing holograms, we reconstruct up to 118 independent image channels from a single metasurface hologram, achieving an ultranarrow linewidth of 2 nm in the visible range. Finally, we apply the developed wavelength-vortex multiplexing metasurface holograms for holographic visual cryptography, achieving unprecedented security with an information rate more than 2500 times higher than that of traditional visual cryptography schemes. Our results open exciting avenues for the use of metasurface holograms in various applications, including 3D displays, holographic encryption, beam shaping, LiDAR, microscopy, data storage, and optical artificial intelligence.

The stability of perovskite solar cells is closely related to the defects in perovskite crystals, and there are a large number of crystal defects in the perovskite thin films prepared by the solution method, which is not conducive to the commercial production of PSCs. In this study, resveratrol(RES), a green natural antioxidant abundant in knotweed and grape leaves, was introduced into perovskite films to passivate the defect. RES achieves defect passivation by interacting with uncoordinated Pb2+ in perovskite films. The results show that the quality of the perovskite film is significantly improved, and the energy level structure of the device is optimized, and the power conversion efficiency of the device is increased from 21.62% to 23.44%. In addition, RES can hinder the degradation of perovskite structures by O2- and CO2- free radicals, and the device retained 88% of its initial PCE after over 1000 hours in pure oxygen environment. The device retains 91% of the initial PCE after more than 1000 hours at 25{\deg}C and 50+5% relative humidity. This work provides a strategy for the use of natural and environmentally friendly additives to improve the efficiency and stability of devices, and provides an idea for the development of efficient, stable and environmentally friendly PSCs.

Real-world passive radiative cooling requires highly emissive, selective, and omnidirectional thermal emitters to maintain the radiative cooler at a certain temperature below the ambient temperature while maximizing the net cooling power. Despite various selective thermal emitters have been demonstrated, it is still challenging to achieve these conditions simultaneously because of the extreme complexity of controlling thermal emission of photonic structures in multidimension. Here we demonstrated machine learning mediated hybrid metasurface thermal emitters with a high emissivity of ~0.92 within the atmospheric transparency window 8-13 {\mu}m, a large spectral selectivity of ~1.8 and a wide emission angle up to 80 degrees, simultaneously. This selective and omnidirectional thermal emitter has led to a new record of temperature reduction as large as ~15.4 degree under strong solar irradiation of ~800 W/m2, significantly surpassing the state-of-the-art results. The designed structures also show great potential in tackling the urban heat island effect, with modelling results suggesting a large energy saving and deployment area reduction. This research will make significant impact on passive radiative cooling, thermal energy photonics and tackling global climate change.

Dual super massive black holes at sub-kpc to kpc scales, the product of galaxy mergers, are progenitors of eventually coalescing binary SMBHs. If both or one of the dual SMBHs are accreting, they may appear as dual AGNs or off-nucleus AGNs. Studying such systems is essential to learn the dynamical evolution of binary SMBHs as well as the process of galaxy merging. Recently a novel astrometry-based method named varstrometry has been put forward to search for dual SMBHs at high redshift, as the unsynchronized flux variability of dual AGNs (or off-nucleus AGNs) will cause astrometric jitters detectable by Gaia without spatially resolving them. Based on Gaia varstrometry we select a rare sample of 5 radio loud quasars with clear Gaia astrometric jitters. With e-MERLIN observations we have revealed a single compact radio source for each of them. Remarkably all but one exhibit clear Gaia-radio offsets of ~ 7 -- 40 mas. The observed Gaia jitters appear consistent with the expected values. These detected Gaia-radio offsets suggest these candidate dual SMBHs may have projected separations as small as ~ 0.01 -- 0.1'' (~ 0.1 kpc, depending on the optical flux ratio of two SMBHs). 3D Morphable models of the human body capture variations among subjects and are useful in reconstruction and editing applications. Current dental models use an explicit mesh scene representation and model only the teeth, ignoring the gum. In this work, we present the first parametric 3D morphable dental model for both teeth and gum. Our model uses an implicit scene representation and is learned from rigidly aligned scans. It is based on a component-wise representation for each tooth and the gum, together with a learnable latent code for each of such components. It also learns a template shape thus enabling several applications such as segmentation, interpolation, and tooth replacement. The orbital angular momentum (OAM) of light holds great promise for applications in optical communication, super-resolution imaging, and high-dimensional quantum computing. However, the spatio-temporal coherence of the light source has been essential for generating OAM beams, as incoherent ambient light would result in polychromatic and obscured OAM beams in the visible spectrum. Here, we extend the applications of OAM to ambient lighting conditions. By miniaturizing spiral phase plates and integrating them with structural color filters, we achieve spatio-temporal coherence using only an incoherent white light source. These optical elements act as building blocks that encode both color and OAM information in the form of colorful optical vortices. Thus, pairs of transparent substrates that contain matching positions of these vortices constitute a reciprocal optical lock and key system. Due to the multiple helical eigenstates of OAM, the pairwise coupling can be further extended to form a one-to-many matching and validation scheme. Generating and decoding colorful optical vortices with broadband white light could find potential applications in anti-counterfeiting, optical metrology, high-capacity optical encryption, and on-chip 3D photonic devices.

Artificial intelligence (AI) technology is increasingly used for digital orthodontics, but one of the challenges is to automatically and accurately detect tooth landmarks and axes. This is partly because of sophisticated geometric definitions of them, and partly due to large variations among individual tooth and across different types of tooth. As such, we propose a deep learning approach with a labeled dataset by professional dentists to the tooth landmark/axis detection on tooth model that are crucial for orthodontic treatments. Our method can extract not only tooth landmarks in the form of point (e.g. cusps), but also axes that measure the tooth angulation and inclination. The proposed network takes as input a 3D tooth model and predicts various types of the tooth landmarks and axes. Specifically, we encode the landmarks and axes as dense fields defined on the surface of the tooth model. This design choice and a set of added components make the proposed network more suitable for extracting sparse landmarks from a given 3D tooth model. Extensive evaluation of the proposed method was conducted on a set of dental models prepared by experienced dentists. Results show that our method can produce tooth landmarks with high accuracy.
