Lexical entrainment is a phenomenon in which people tend to re-use the words used by conversational partners (Brennan & Clark, 1996). It is explained as either an automatic reaction caused by priming (Pickering & Garrod, 2004), or a strategic behavior where two interlocutors achieve conceptual agreements for communicative purposes (Brennan & Clark, 1996). Past studies suggest that speakers tend to entrain more when interacting with listeners with lower language competence, such as computers (Branigan, Pickering, Pearson, McLean, & Brown, 2011), children (Cai, Sun, & Zhao, 2021), and non-native partners (Cai et al., 2021; Suffill, Kutasi, Pickering, & Branigan, 2021). However, few studies have explored how the features of speakers themselves determine the pattern of entrainment, and the studies that do exist suggest that speaker proficiency (as opposed to listener proficiency) may not affect entrainment behavior. In this study, we target bilingual groups and explore individual differences in lexical entrainment by looking at their entrainment behavior with picture matching and naming tasks. Over the course of two experiments, we investigate English entrainment in English-speaking bilinguals, as well as Mandarin entrainment in Mandarin-English bilinguals. Unlike the previous literature, our results suggest that a speaker’s language dominance/proficiency may have an effect on that speaker’s entrainment: bilinguals who are less dominant/proficient in English tend to entrain more in English, although the effect in Mandarin did not reach significance.

Aims: The association of sleep traits (insomnia, sleep duration, chronotype, daytime sleepiness, and snoring) with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is unclear. This research aimed to examine the effects of sleep traits on BPH risk. Methods: A total of 170 241 men aged 38 to 73 years from UK Biobank were included. An overall healthy sleep score was created based on five sleep traits. A Cox regression model was utilized to compute adjusted hazard ratios (HRs) and population attributable fractions (PAFs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for BPH risk in relation to sleep traits. Results: During a median of 12.0 years follow‐up, 13 026 incident BPH cases occurred. We observed that sleep duration (7–8 h/d; HR 0.95; 95% CI 0.92–0.99), no frequent insomnia (HR 0.71; 95% CI 0.69–0.74), and no frequent daytime sleepiness (HR 0.86; 95% CI 0.79–0.93) were significantly related to reduced BPH risk. Each one‐point increment of the healthy sleep score was related to a decreased BPH risk, with an adjusted HR of 0.90 (95% CI 0.89–0.92). The multivariable‐adjusted HR in men adopting five versus zero to one low‐risk sleep traits was 0.68 (95% CI 0.61–0.75) for BPH risk. Estimates of the PAF indicated that 9.1% (95% CI 5.8–12.5%) of BPH cases would be prevented if all individuals had adopted all five low‐risk sleep traits, assuming causality. Conclusions: Our study indicates an association between a healthy sleep pattern and a lower risk of BPH, emphasizing the importance of adhering to such patterns for potentially reducing BPH risk. Acute lung injury (ALI)/acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) is a severe syndrome lacking efficient therapy and resulting in high morbidity and mortality. Although resveratrol (RES), a natural phytoalexin, has been reported to protect the ALI by suppressing the inflammatory response, the detailed mechanism of how RES affected the immune system is poorly studied. Pulmonary conventional dendritic cells (cDCs) are critically involved in the pathogenesis of inflammatory lung diseases including ALI. In this study, we aimed to investigate the protective role of RES via pulmonary cDCs in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced ALI mice. Murine ALI model was established by intratracheally challenging with 5 mg/kg LPS. We found that RES pretreatment could mitigate LPS-induced ALI. Additionally, proinflammatory-skewed cytokines decreased whereas anti-inflammatory-related cytokines increased in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid by RES pretreatment. Mechanistically, RES regulated pulmonary cDCs’ maturation and function, exhibiting lower level of CD80, CD86, major histocompatibility complex (MHC) II expression, and IL-10 secretion in ALI mice. Furthermore, RES modulated the balance between proinflammation and anti-inflammation of cDCs. Moreover, in vitro RES pretreatment regulated the maturation and function of bone marrow derived dendritic cells (BMDCs). Finally, the adoptive transfer of RES-pretreated BMDCs enhanced recovery of ALI. Thus, these data might further extend our understanding of a protective role of RES in regulating pulmonary cDCs against ALI.
