A porous Zr-based MOF, [Zr6(BTEB)4(μ3-O)4(μ3-OH)4(H2O)4], which contains partially hydrated, 12-connected {Zr6} nodes and extended carboxylate ligands (BTEB3−), was synthesized and physicochemically characterised. The resulting (12,3)-connected, 3D framework adopts an uncommon llj topology with a large, solvent accessible void volume of ca. 79% of the unit cell volume. The porous structure facilitates the uptake of N2 and activated samples give rise to BET surface areas of >1000 m2 g−1. Furthermore, the porosity and accessibility of Lewis acidic Zr(IV) sites promote the catalytic transformation of gaseous CO2 to cyclic carbonates via cycloaddition reactions using epoxide reactants, whereby solvated MOFs exhibit higher catalytic performance than thermally treated samples.

Two d10 metal complexes, {[Zn(Hbtc)(bmt)]·DMF·5H2O} n (1) and {[Cd(Hbtc)(bmt)]·0.5DMF·0.5H2O} n (2) (H3btc = 1,3,5-benzenetricarboxylic acid, bmt = 2-((benzoimidazol-yl)methyl)-1H-1,2,4-triazole), have been synthesized under solvothermal conditions by employing bmt and H3btc. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction shows that Zn(II) ions are connected by bmt with bidentate-bridging coordination and by 1,3,5-benzenetricarboxylate with bis-monodentate coordination leading to the 2D structure of 1. Complex 2 exhibits a 2D layer structure, in which bmt coordinate tridentate-bridging to Cd(II) and 1,3,5-benzenetricarboxylates coordinate to Cd(II) unidentate/chelating. Photoluminescence and thermogravimetric analyses of the two complexes are investigated.

Two complexes formulated as {[Cd(btec)0.5(tmb)H2O]·4H2O}n (1) and {[Cd(H2btec)(tmb)(H2O)]·2H2O}n (2) (H4btec = 1,2,4,5-benzenetetracarboxylic acid, tmb = 2-((1H-1,2,4-triazol-1-yl)methyl)-1H-benzimidazole) have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, IR, and single crystal X-ray diffraction. Single crystal X-ray diffraction shows that 1 has a 2-D layer structure in which tmb bridges and all of the carboxylates from 1,2,4,5-benzenetetracarboxylate chelate. In 2 Cd(II) ions are bridged by monodentate carboxylates leading to a 2-D layer structure with all tmb ligands coordinated monodentate to Cd(II), hanging at two sides of the layers. Complexes 1 and 2 are further extended to 3-D supramolecular structures by hydrogen bonding interactions. Luminescent properties have been investigated in the solid state at room temperature.

Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) is a persistent and unexplained pathological state characterized by exertional and severely debilitating fatigue, with/without infectious or neuropsychiatric symptoms, lasting at least 6 consecutive months. Its pathogenesis remains incompletely understood. Here, we performed comprehensive metabolomic analyses of 133 plasma samples obtained from CFS patients and healthy controls to establish an objective diagnosis of CFS. CFS patients exhibited significant differences in intermediate metabolite concentrations in the tricarboxylic acid (TCA) and urea cycles. The combination of ornithine/citrulline and pyruvate/isocitrate ratios discriminated CFS patients from healthy controls, yielding area under the receiver operating characteristic curve values of 0.801 (95% confidential interval [CI]: 0.711–0.890, P P = 0.0069) for training (n = 93) and validation (n = 40) datasets, respectively. These findings provide compelling evidence that a clinical diagnostic tool could be developed for CFS based on the ratios of metabolites in plasma.

Two new Cd(II) complexes, {[Cd(m-bdc)(tmb)(H2O)]·CH3OH}n (1) and {[Cd(t-bdc)(tmb)(H2O)] ·2H2O·DMF}n (2), have been prepared by using 2-((1H-1,2,4-triazol-1-yl)methyl)-1Hbenzimidazole (tmb) as a ligand in the presence of 1,3-benzenedicarboxylic acid (m-H2bdc) or 1,4-benzenedicarboxylic acid (t-H2bdc). Single-crystal X-ray diffraction exhibits that complex 1 displays a 2D structure constructed by tmb ligands in trans conformation and carboxylate groups in a chelating mode. The 2D structure of complex 2is different from that of 1, in that the tmb ligands are in cis conformation, and the carboxylate groups are in both unidentate or chelating coordination mode at the Cd(II) centers. Cortical spreading depression (SD) is propagating neuronal and glial depolarization and is thought to underly the pathophysiology of migraine. We have reported that cortical SD facilitates the proliferative activity of NG2-containing progenitor cells (NG2 cells) that give rise to oligodendrocytes and immature neurons under the physiological conditions in the adult mammalian cortex. Astrocytes have an important role in the maintenance of neuronal functions and alleviate neuronal damage after intense neuronal excitation, including SD and seizures. We here investigated whether SD promotes astrocyte generation from NG2 cells following SD stimuli. Spreading depression was induced by epidural application of 1 mol/L KCl solution in adult rats. We investigated the cell fate of NG2 cells following SD-induced proliferation using 5′-bromodeoxyuridine labeling and immunohistochemical analysis. Newly generated astrocytes were observed only in the SD-stimulated cortex, but not in the contralateral cortex or in normal cortex. The astrocytes were generated from proliferating NG2 cells. Astrogenesis depended on the number of SD stimuli, and was accompanied by suppression of oligodendrogenesis. These observations indicate that the cell fate of NG2 cells was shifted from oligodendrocytes to astrocytes depending on SD stimuli, suggesting activity-dependent tissue remodeling for maintenance of brain functions.

Three new complexes with the formulas [HgI2(imb)2] (1), [Cd(SCN)(H2O)(imb)4]·(SCN)·4H2O (2), and [Cd(OH)2(imb)2 (4,4′-bipy)2] (3) have been obtained through the reactions of an unsymmetrical ligand 2-(1H-imidazole-1-ylmethyl)-1H-benzimidazole (imb) with Hg(II) or Cd(II) salts at room temperature. In complex 1, imb ligands coordinate to Hg(II) ions with two different monodentate coordination modes. While in complexes 2 and 3, the imb ligands coordinate to Cd(II) ions with one monodentate coordination mode. This shows that the change of the metal ions and anions can influence the coordination modes of the imb ligand. Additionally, their fluorescent properties also have been investigated.

In the presence of KBr and Na2S2O3, two new coordination polymers, {[Cd2(μ2-Br)2Br2(H2O)2(imb)2]·2H2O}n (1) and {[Cd(S2O3)(imb)]·2DMF}n (2), have been prepared through the reactions of Cd(NO3)2 with 2-(1H-imidazole-1-ylmethyl)-1H-benzimidazole (imb). A structural study reveals that 1 displays 1-D chain structure constructed by bromine anions and imb ligands bridging Cd(II) ions. While 2 exhibits a 2-D network structure in which the thiosulfate groups coordinate to Cd(II) ions with O and S atoms simultaneously. Additionally, their IR and fluorescent properties are investigated.

Two new complexes formulated as [HgBr(bimt)(μ-Br)2HgBr (bimt)]·H2O (1), and [HgI(bimt)(μ-I)2HgI(bimt)] (2) (bimt = 2- ((benzoimidazolyl)methyl)-1H-tetrazole) have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectra, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Both complexes exhibit binuclear structure. In the solid state, there are hydrogen bonds and π-π interactions in both complexes, and there are still I···I interactions in 2. Their fluorescent properties also have been determined.

In this paper, four coordination polymers, {[Ag(bmi)]·NO 3 } n ( 1 ), [Co(N 3 ) 2 (bmi) 2 ] n ( 2 ), [Cu(SCN) 2 (bmi) 2 ] n ( 3 ), and {[Cu(bmi) 2 (CH 3 OH)(H 2 O)]·(ClO 4 ) 2 } n ( 4 ) have been synthesized through the reactions of an unsymmetrical ligand 1-((benzotriazol-1-yl)methyl)-1 H -1,3-imidazole (bmi) with Ag(I), Co(II) and Cu(II) salts at room temperature. X-ray diffraction analyses showed that compound 1 exhibits double-stranded helical chain. Compounds 2 – 4 display 2-D rhombus grid network structure. The rhombus grid consists of 32-membered rings, and gives the dimensions of ca. 8.9 × 8.9 A for compound 2 , ca. 10.1 × 10.1 A for compound 3 , and ca. 9.7 × 9.5 A for compound 4 . In addition, the 2-D layers of compound 3 are stacked into 3-D structure via π – π interactions, while the 3-D architecture of compound 4 is realized through complicated hydrogen bonds and π – π interactions. The thermal analyses of compounds 1 and 3 indicate that they have high thermal stability and are stable up to 259 °C.

Fatigue can be classified as physical or mental, depending on its cause. In physical fatigue, changes in the plasma levels of some amino acids have been reported. However, complex fatigue, which is experienced in daily life, is a combination of physical and mental fatigue. We aimed to identify changes in amino acid levels in the plasma, skeletal muscle, liver, and brain in an animal model of complex fatigue.Rats were kept in a cage filled with water to a height of 2.2 cm for 5 d. Because rats showed a reduction of body weight when the model was developed, we also included a food-restricted group showing a similar profile in weight reduction as the water-immersed rats. A non-treated control group was also included.Results indicated that levels of branched-chain amino acids (valine, leucine, and isoleucine) were increased in plasma (valine, leucine, and isoleucine; P0.01), skeletal muscle (valine, leucine, and isoleucine; P0.01), the liver (valine; P0.05), and brain (isoleucine; P0.05), whereas a reduction in other amino acid levels (total amino acids and glutamine in the plasma, skeletal muscle, and liver; and phenylalanine, tyrosine, arginine, and threonine in the brain; P0.01) was seen in animals with complex fatigue.Complex fatigue may bring about systemic changes in amino acid metabolism in multiple organs.

Fatigue can be defined physiologically as inability to maintain the expected power output. At present, no standard of fatigue are yet available. In order to find biomarkers of fatigue, we investigated the level of delta-aminolevulinic acid (ALA), the first intermediate metabolite in the heme biosynthetic pathway, in the plasma and urine of an animal model of fatigue. To prepare fatigued animals, we kept rats for 5 days in a cage filled with water to a height of 1.5 cm. As a result, the plasma and urinary ALA levels were increased in the fatigued animals as compared with those in the control animals. One day after the rats had been returned to their normal cages, these increased levels were restored to the control ones. We also examined the activity of the enzyme ALA dehydratase (ALAD), which is the second enzyme in the heme biosynthetic pathway, and ALAD gene expression during the fatigue and its recovery sessions. The ALAD activity, as well as its gene expression, in the liver of the fatigued animals was decreased as compared with those of the control animals. Both activity and gene expression of ALAD were recovered to their respective control levels after the rats had been allowed to rest in their normal cages for 1 day. Furthermore, the activity of ALA synthase (ALAS), the rate-limiting enzyme in the heme biosynthesis, in the liver was increased after the fatigue session for 5 days. Although this level of increase in the plasma concentration of ALA may not induce fatigue, increase in plasma and urinary ALA levels can be biomarkers of fatigue.

To study the pathogenesis of hearing loss in chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML). To report one case with CML whose first sign was sudden unilateral hearing loss. Sudden hearing loss in CML was presented with dramatic high white blood cell count in peripheral blood. Some cases of sudden hearing loss in CML may be improved or even cured by leukapheresis and intrathecal chemotherapy. The proposed pathogenesis for deafness in leukemia is due to hyperleukocytosis, hyperviscosity syndrome, leukemic infiltration and the inner ear hemorrhage. In treatment, clinicians should quickly reduce the number of white blood cells to lighten the tumor burden. Intrathecal injection of MTX and plasmapheresis is commonly used.

International audience; The coordination ability of the bis(2-picolyl)phenylphosphine (NPN) compound has been probed toward the iron precursor [FeN(SiMe3)22]. By a careful control of the experimental conditions we were able to isolate and characterize three complexes displaying different coordination modes of the NPN ligand as revealed in particular by X-ray diffraction, and multinuclear solution and solid state NMR analyses. It is shown that NPN can be used as a proton-responsive ligand with enough flexibility to allow the formation of the dinuclear complex [FeP(CH2(C5H4N))(CH(C5H4N))(N(SiMe3)2)]2 with two NPN ligands spanning the two metal centres.

International audience; We report herein the use of the (dihydrido)iron catalyst, Fe(H)2(dmpe)2, for the selective reduction of CO2 into either bis(boryl)acetal or methoxyborane depending on the hydroborane used as a reductant. In a one-pot two-step procedure, the in situ generated bis(boryl)acetal was shown to be a reactive and versatile source of methylene to create new C–N but also C–O and C–C bonds.

In the title complex, [Cd(C(10)H(5)O(8))(2)(C(10)H(9)N(5))(2)(H(2)O)(2)]·2H(2)O, the Cd(II) ion lies on an inversion center and is coordinated by two N atoms from two symmetry-related 1-[(1H-benzimidazol-2-yl)meth-yl]-1H-1,2,4-triazole ligands and two O atoms from two monodeprotonated 2,4,5-tricarb-oxy-benzoate anions in equatorial positions and by two water O atoms in axial positions, leading to a distorted octa-hedral environment. In the crystal, complex mol-ecules and solvent water mol-ecules are linked through inter-molecular O-H⋯O, O-H⋯N and N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds into a three-dimensional network. Intra-molecular O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds are also present.

This research has been combined closely with the practical situation in TEs in Hebei province. By using the aggregate data and the survey data, combining the methods of quantitative and qualitative analyses, we have systematically analyzed the present situation and problems faced by the technical personnel in township enterprises (TEs). On this base, the report proposes the development strategies of technical personnel of TEs in the Hebei province.

Three Cd(II)-containing coordination polymers [CdCl2(tmb)]n (1) and two polymorphs of {[CdI2(tmb)]·DMF}n (2, 3) (tmb = 2-((1H-1,2,4-triazol-1-yl)methyl)-1H-benzimidazole) have been synthesized by the reactions of tmb with the cadmium salts. Polymer 1 exhibits an infinite · · ·Cd- (Cl1)2-Cd-(Cl2)2-Cd· · · chain with μ2Cl bridges, while polymers 2 and 3 are isomers, in which the Cd(II) ions are bridged by the bidentate tmb ligands leading to · · ·Cd-tmb-Cd· · · chains. The polymers form 3-D supramolecular frameworks through hydrogen bonds and π · · ·π stacking interactions. The different structures of polymers 1 - 3 indicate that the anions and the flexibility of the tmb ligand can influence the structures of the coordination polymers. The infrared spectra and luminescent properties of the polymers have been investigated in the solid state at room temperature

In the title complex, [Ni(C(13)H(10)N(4)O(8))(H(2)O)(2)]·2H(2)O, the Ni(2+) cation is six-coordinated by two N atoms and two O atoms from the tetra-dentate anion in equatorial positions and by two water O atoms in axial positions, leading to a distorted octa-hedral environment. The central C atom of the propanediyl unit is disordered over two sites in a 0.531 (6):0.469 (6) ratio. In the crystal, adjacent mol-ecules are linked through O-H⋯O and N-H⋯O hydrogen-bonding inter-actions into a three-dimensional network.

We report the synthesis and characterisation of [Mn8K2O4(OH)2((CH3)3CCOO)16(CH3CN)2] whose cluster core shares some features with the oxygen evolving complex (OEC), the natural water oxidation catalyst. Importantly, this complex provides a bio-inspired complex that promotes catalytic H2O oxidation at neutral pH value.
