Analyzing the trajectory and mechanism of rural industrial change is important for understanding urban–rural integration and facilitating rural revitalization. Based on the data of industrial enterprises in 1112 administrative villages of Guangzhou, China, from 1978 to 2020, we identify the evolution trend of rural industry by investigating the spatial–temporal dynamics of industrial changes in rural areas. An extended triple-process framework incorporating urbanization and greenization was employed to unravel the underlying mechanism of the trajectory of rural industrialization. The results highlight the transformation from rural to suburban industrialization. In the past twenty years, rapid urbanization has contributed to the establishment of development zones. The agglomeration economy has led to a higher concentration of manufacturing industries in these development zones rather than rural areas. The eco-friendly development has resulted in a green transition in rural areas, further restricting the growth of traditional rural industries. Our analysis provides a nuanced picture of Guangzhou's spatial–temporal dynamics of rural and suburban industrialization. Due to a shortage of qualified professionals, many international cities have implemented a range of policies to attract skilled migrants and retain them for permanent work in destination cities, aiming to take advantage of the globalized competition. Despite being relatively understudied, the role of housing is of utmost importance, especially if skilled migrants can be attracted to work and live in destination cities permanently. This study conceptualized housing wellbeing as subjective housing feelings and objective housing outcomes, aiming to disentangle the relationship between housing wellbeing and settlement intentions. Based on the 2019 questionnaire survey in Guangzhou, this study found that skilled migrants who have become homeowners in Guangzhou have a higher propensity to settle in Guangzhou than those without homeownership. Also, this study found an inverted U-shaped relationship between the number of rooms and settlement intentions. Moreover, when the housing size per person is between 16 and 20 m2, housing size per person is positively associated with settlement intentions; nevertheless, when the housing size per person is below 16 m2 or above 20 m2, there is nil relation between housing size per person and settlement intentions. Finally, although skilled migrants are not satisfied with the current housing situation, they are still willing to settle in Guangzhou permanently. In the digital economy era, take-out shops relying on the online-to-offline e-commerce platform have gathered in central cities on a large scale, forming large-scale food processing spaces—"Takeaway Factories"— to serve immediate local catering needs. In addition to the impact of the platform economy, consumer demand, and space costs, riders are an important and dynamic factor that promote the final formation of a "Takeaway Factory". Based on the analysis framework of virtual and real-space interactions using the participatory survey method, the specific roles of crowdsourcing and special delivery riders in the formation of "Takeaway Factory" was elucidated. Riders, as the core intermediaries of virtual agglomeration that leads to physical agglomeration, play a role at different stages and spatial scales. In the initial stage, because dedicated takeout shops tend to prefer low-cost, high-demand urban gap spaces, they face challenges in matching with special delivery riders until they are included in the special delivery distribution station. Thus, crowdsourcing riders with free-movement attributes are their first choice. Crowdsourcing riders have a strong preference for store clusters and select food through the two tools of the regional order heat map and grab order hall, bringing about differences in distribution efficiency and promoting the phenomenon of large regional differentiation of relatively concentrated and dispersed stores within the city scale. In the middle stage, in the face of the uneven distribution efficiency of different areas in the city, the platform divides the size of the stations according to the size of the shops in different areas, and matches the special delivery riders of the corresponding scale, which eliminates the uneven distribution efficiency of different areas to a certain extent, and promotes the distribution efficiency of different sections to reach a basic balance. With the emergence of special delivery systems, the special delivery riders are distributed in the station area through the delivery system, which effectively alleviates the distribution pressure of the relatively dispersed, inferior-location stores and promotes the balance of the distribution efficiency of different sections. In the final stage, the special delivery and crowdsourcing riders in the area jointly promote the agglomeration of shops in the area, and ultimately promote the formation of a more polarized takeaway factory. Crowdsourcing riders continue to promote agglomeration from the initial stage, whereas the emergence of special delivery riders promotes both equilibrium and agglomeration. With the increasing maturity of the special delivery and crowdsourcing system, the time-space behavior of different types of riders will eventually promote the completion of the high-density and large-scale agglomeration of takeaway shops in the area (distribution site) through virtual tools, such as site order thermal maps, order dispatching systems, resident points, and order-grabbing halls. Ancient trees play an important ecosystem service role in high-density cities, revealing the zonal distribution characteristics of vegetation under climate influence. The ancient trees in Guangzhou and Foshan in 2018 and 2023 were taken as study objects to explore the evolution of their spatio-temporal patterns and to analyze the spatial differentiation characteristics of their driving factors using the geographical weighted regression (GWR) model. The results showed the following: (1) The ancient trees in Guangzhou and Foshan were composed of typical subtropical evergreen broad-leaved forest communities, mainly represented by broad-leaved species of evergreen dicotyledonous plants. The dominant species mainly included Litchi chinensis, Ficus microcarpa, Canarium pimela, Ficus virens, and Dimocarpus longan. However, there was a significant difference between Guangzhou and Foshan. (2) The number of ancient trees in Guangzhou showed negative growth, while Foshan saw a significant increase. However, species diversity in both areas increased, with the highest diversity in the northeast, higher diversity in the south-central part, and lower diversity in the western and northwestern parts. (3) The maximum kernel density of ancient trees in Guangzhou and Foshan differed 22-fold, indicating a spatial distribution pattern of multiple clusters. (4) The GWR model effectively explained the driving factors of the heterogeneity of the spatial distribution of ancient trees. The results showed that artificial disturbance was the most important factor affecting the spatial distribution of ancient trees in high-density urban agglomerations in the same vegetation zone. The study clarified the characteristics of the spatial distribution and species diversity of ancient trees in the region, revealed the driving factors for the evolution of the spatial pattern of ancient trees in highly urbanized areas, and provided guidelines for policies and measures for enhancing biodiversity and conserving germplasm resources in the region. China is a burgeoning immigrant‐receiving country, and policies on immigration are just beginning to be developed. While African immigration to China was uncommon 30 years ago, China has gradually become a major destination for African immigrants due to its robust economy, welcoming universities, and low cost of living. Currently, there are increasing numbers of African students and professionals who are migrating to China to study or work. The health status of African migrants in China shapes their wellbeing, which plays a key role in strengthening long‐term cooperative relations between China and African countries. Although previous literature has examined the socioeconomic status of these African immigrants, the role of health insurance participation in shaping the health status of African immigrants remains obscure in China. Using data from the 2019 questionnaire‐survey in Guangzhou, China, this paper investigates the underlying mechanism driving African immigrants' health insurance participation as critical to their physical and mental health. Our results demonstrate that health insurance participation is a pivotal factor in the overall health of African immigrants; specifically, purchasing health insurance and one's mental and physical health can be characterised as a feedback loop. Purchasing health insurance can positively impact mental health, and consequently, better mental health can improve physical health. Good physical health also tends to bolster mental health. Therefore, policies aimed at improving African immigrants' mental and physical health are expected to encourage them to purchase health insurance above their present low level of insurance participation. The proposal here is that health policymaking for immigrants should include the interaction mechanism between physical and mental health rather than focus only on physical health conditions. The creation of a dense, convenient, and diverse built environment is a strategic approach for fostering urban development. However, few studies have considered the relationship between a compact built environment and livability. This study seeks to answer the following question: What type of built environment is conducive to long-term residency? Using the Guangzhou urban district in China as a case study, we develop a livability-oriented assessment system for the built environment and integrate it into the hedonic price model. We employ spatial regression methods to analyze the impact of the built environment on housing prices, and findings suggest that (1) livability-oriented built environments are characterized by spaciousness, convenience, and diversity. Environments with a low building density, high building heights, a large plot area, and diverse land use are highly favorable for livability. (2) The built environment is intricate, and different factors can affect livability in diverse areas within an urban space. The impact of POI (Point of Interest) density and road density on livability varies by location. (3) The principles of small-scale blocks, high-density road networks, and compact urban planning are not universally applicable to the construction of livable cities. (4) The spatial heterogeneity of the built environment in the Guangzhou urban district is pronounced. This study addresses the assessment standards dominated by new urbanism. Under a livability-oriented approach, urban planners and managers should not indiscriminately pursue the construction of high-density and compact cities.

The adoption of Western planning ideas has significantly shaped China’s Central Business Districts (CBDs) and spurred economic growth. This article goes beyond existing research by exploring the “provincialization” of Western planning concepts, resulting in unique CBD landscapes in Chinese cities. Through a study of the Guangzhou CBD, it reveals how introduced ideas and local agents mutually adjust and respond to each other’s needs during the provincialization process. Under the “Reforms and Opening-up” policy, Chinese authorities drew from Hong Kong’s experiences to introduce the CBD concept, adapting it to underdeveloped land in Guangzhou and blending it with American downtown design. To meet urban space demands, industrial growth, and land economy needs, urban authorities reorganized local resources to create a discourse of the “central axis” to integrate the CBD concept into the urban layout. Consequently, both introduced ideas and local agents are intertwined to address challenges posed by each other, resulting in Guangzhou’s CBD framing a hybrid urban landscape.

Abstract The association between ambient temperature and mental health has been explored previously. However, research on the psychological effect of temperature in vulnerable groups and neighborhood scales have been scarce. Based on the survey and temperature data collected from 20 neighborhoods in Guangzhou, China, this study estimated the association between ambient temperature and community mental health among the elderly, adopting a fixed-effects methodology. According to this empirical analysis, compared to a comfortable temperature range of 20℃–25℃, measures of worse mental health among elderly were significant in high and low temperatures with increases in negative outcomes observable at both ends of the temperature range, leading to the U-shaped relationship. Second, the association between ambient temperature and worse mental health was found in the subcategories of gender, income, and symptom events. Specifically, from the hot temperature aspect, elderly males were more sensitive than elderly females. The effect on the low was far more than on the middle-high income group, and the probability of each symptom of the elderly’s mental health significantly increased. From the cool temperature aspect, the temperature in the range of 5ºC–10ºC was significantly associated with the probability of some symptoms (feeling down, not calm, downheartedness, and unhappiness) and the middle-high income group. Our research enriches the empirical research on ambient temperature and mental health from a multidisciplinary perspective and suggests the need for healthy aging and age-friendly planning in Chinese settings.

Expanding road infrastructure has caused severe fragmentation of wildlife habitats. Conducting wildlife habitat connectivity analyses and identifying potential locations for wildlife passages are valuable for regional ecological restoration and habitat protection. Taking Guangzhou as the study area, this study used a combination of the habitat suitability model, Morphological Spatial Pattern Analysis (MSPA), and landscape connectivity index to identify and analyze wildlife habitats. Wildlife dispersal paths were extracted using hydrological analyses, and the potential sites for wildlife passages were identified. The results revealed the following: (1) The study identified 21 wildlife habitats in Guangzhou with a total area of about 1,074.39 km², which are scarce in number and area, and present an unbalanced pattern of "concentrated in the eastern and northern regions and scattered in the central and western regions." Wildlife habitats can maintain the relative stability of their internal ecological functions with a high proportion of perforation areas and edge areas. However, the insufficient number of small core areas around the wildlife habitat has caused a lack of small ecological spaces outside the habitat to provide ecological stepping stones, thus harming wildlife dispersal. (2) The overall connectivity of wildlife habitats in Guangzhou increases as the diffusion ability of wild animals enhances. Wild animals with low diffusion abilities are threatened by limited habitat ranges and insufficient gene exchange. (3) There are significant differences in the role of different habitat patches in maintaining the overall connectivity of wildlife habitats. This study identified four core patches and nine important patches that play irreplaceable roles in energy flow and material circulation in wildlife habitats. Therefore, based on the importance of the patches, it is recommended that a basic pattern is developed with core patches as the cornerstone of the ecosystem in Guangzhou and important patches as support. This will provide an effective reference for wildlife habitat conservation strategies and spatial planning in the region. (4) The wildlife dispersal paths are prone to path interruption and decreased dispersal levels in areas adjacent to construction sites and road infrastructure. In total, 221.94 km of first-level wildlife dispersal paths and 84.09 km of second-level dispersal paths have been identified. A total of 51 wildlife passages were identified, including 38 points located on primary wildlife dispersal paths. The identified wildlife passage sites are mainly located at forest edges and in cultivated areas with moderate habitat suitability that are vulnerable to human activities. Considering the potential risk of habitat quality deterioration in these areas in the future, there is an urgent need to implement strategies such as forest protection zone construction and wildlife passage construction, including underground culverts and road bridge overpasses. The construction of wildlife passages can effectively ensure unimpeded dispersal paths for wild animals while reducing the negative impact of road infrastructure on habitat connectivity. The findings of this study provide a scientific basis for regional road infrastructure planning, ecological conservation, and restoration.

In China, public houses are properties that belong to the local government and are usually managed by the local Department of Housing and Urban-Rural Development. During the 1970s and the 1980s, these houses were used to provide shelters for incoming rural surplus laborers and low-income families who moved into the cities. Over time, problems with public houses, such as unclear property rights, the absence of management regulations, and long-term disrepair, have become increasingly serious. Managing public houses is a challenge faced by Guangzhou in the process of urban renewal. This study first reviews domestic and foreign examples of revitalizing public houses and research on the theory of "Urban Acupuncture," and then carries out further fieldwork and interviews on public houses in six typical districts of Guangzhou's old city zone. These results indicate that public houses play an important role in providing housing security to tenants. Tenants of such houses have a strong sense of belonging and trust in their communities and neighborhoods. This study summarizes three revitalization modes for public houses: selling public houses after renovation, transforming the use of public houses, and using public houses as affordable housing. It also proposes a strategy that uses public houses first as affordable houses, then for functional transformation, and selling public houses as the last choice for Guangzhou. Based on empirical researches and the methods of "Urban Acupuncture," the study further proposes an analysis model of stock public houses, and four steps of the revitalization path of public houses: (1) Find the problems of public houses through urban physical examination index analysis, big data analysis, residents satisfaction analysis, and so on, and analyze their modes of revitalization based on the analysis model of stock public houses; (2) conduct a house-to-house survey on tenants of these public houses, and select public houses with good reconstruction foundations whose tenants have strong willingness to revitalize and high degrees of cooperation as "acupuncture points"; (3) take continuous, gradual measures to stimulate these "acupuncture points" and influence other tenants of public houses with the same activation modes through social networks; (4) collect feedback from tenants, adjust strategies dynamically, enhance tenants' sense of identity and community belonging to treatment results, and form a positive interaction. It has three major innovations: (1) systematically summarizing domestic and foreign public housing disposal ways and " Urban Acupuncture " theory research progress, and providing a geographic analysis perspective for the theory of "Urban Acupuncture"; (2) providing empirical supports for the three activation modes,and a Guangzhou's strategy for to revitalize public houses; (3) summarizing an analysis framework of the activation mode mechanism of stock public houses from the perspective of humanism, an analysis model of stock public houses, and four steps of the revitalization path of public houses, which are highly enforceable. It is beneficial to the theory and practice on revitalization of public houses, which can also make public houses playing their parts as catalysts in domestic urban renewal process, stimulating motivation of community revitalization, solving housing problem of the minority, and implementing the idea that "we are the cities we make."

Objective To analyze the antibody types of autoimmune hemolytic anemia(AIHA) patients in Panyu district, Guangzhou and track the therapeutic effect of blood transfusion, so as to provide reference for clinical transfusion treatment strategy of AIHA patients. Methods From January 2021 to October 2023, 96 ambiguous cross-matching blood samples from Blood Transfusion Departments of local hospitals sent to Panyu Central Blood Station were analyzed, and 25 samples of AIHA patients were identified. Then blood group identification, Rh system antigen phenotyping, antibody screening and cross-matching were further performed to analyze the correlation between antibody types and transfusion efficacy in AIHA patients. Results Among the 25 samples of AIHA patients, 17 showed consistency between forward and reverse blood grouping and 8 showed discrepancy. There were 19 (19/25, 76%) samples incompatible in cross match on the major side, of which 18 (18/19, 94.7%) were positive for direct Coombs test, autoantibodies and non-specific antibodies, and 1 (1/19, 5.3%)was positive for autoantibody and alloantibody.There were 6 (6/25, 24%) samples compatible in cross match on the major side, of which 3 (3/6, 50%) were positive for autoantibodies, 3 (3/6, 50%) were positive for autoantibody and alloantibody. Of the 25 AIHA patients, 20 received blood transfusion treatment and could be traced, and 5 patients did not receive blood transfusion treatment or transferred to other hospitals and could not be traced. Blood transfusion was effective in 11 (11/20, 55%) cases, partially effective in 6 (6/20, 30%) cases, and ineffective in 3 (3/20, 15%) cases. Among the ABO blood group incompatibility samples, transfusion was effective or partially effective in 17 (17/20, 85%) cases. Conclusion The transfusion efficacy of AIHA patients is not directly related to the results of cross-matching. Under the premise of regulating the autoimmune environment and eliminating the ABO blood group incompatibility caused by unexpected alloantibodies, AIHA patients with incompatible cross-matching can be transfused when necessary, and transfusion of ABO and Rh system antigen homologous blood can improve the safety and efficiency of transfusion.

Background With the change of disease spectrum and the development of modern medical model, traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) is playing an important role in disease prevention, health care and rehabilitation. It is necessary to further promote the development of prevention of disease in TCM and vigorously promote the unique role of TCM in maintaining and promoting people's health. However, popularization and education of the concept of prevention of disease in TCM among community residents remains unclear. Objective To understand the overall awareness, trust, and adoption behavior of prevention of disease in TCM of community residents in Guangzhou, and explore the influencing factors of community residents' trust in prevention of disease in TCM services. Methods From April to August 2022, a stratified cluster sampling method was used to interview 652 community residents from 12 streets in 4 administrative regions of Guangzhou city based on geographic location (central city, urban-rural areas, and suburbs) and economic factors by questionnaires. The survey included residents' basic information, awareness and access to knowledge of prevention of disease in TCM, as well as their demand, utilization and trust in it. The influencing factors of community residents' trust in prevention of disease in TCM services were explored by binary Logistic regression analysis. Results Among the 652 community residents, 67.79% (442/652) were aware of prevention of disease in TCM, 77.91% (508/652) trusted prevention of disease in TCM services, 69.63% (454/652) had received traditional TCM physiotherapy, and only 6.59% (43/652) had received prevention of disease in TCM services more than 4 times in the past year. Univariate correlation analysis showed that age (χ2=9.218), household type (χ2=19.356), marriage status (χ2=2.490), occupation (χ2=17.889), and medical insurance payment type (χ2=13.516) were influencing factors of residents' trust in prevention of disease in TCM services. Binary Logistic regression analysis showed that household type (non-agricultural, agricultural to resident, and non-agricultural to resident) was an influential factor for community residents' trust in prevention of disease in TCM services (OR=2.646, 5.593, 10.502) . Conclusion The overall awareness (67.79%) and trust (77.91%) of prevention of disease in TCM among community residents in Guangzhou are relatively high, but the actual number of services received is insufficient, with a phenomenon of knowledge-attitude-practice separation. Community residents with non-agricultural household type have a higher level of trust, while those with agricultural household type have a lower level of trust. During popularization and services of prevention of disease in TCM, it is necessary to fully utilize the residents' preferred forms, as well as to target specific groups, so as to cultivate the health habits of prevention of disease in community residents.

There are longstanding international housing policy concerns about the well-being and satisfaction of public housing residents and other low-income households. However, little is known about whether the location of public housing requires such lengthy commutes that it retards their fertility intentions. As a result, this study aims to examine the relationship between long commutes and the fertility intentions of young public housing residents and the underlying mechanism linking them. Based on data from the 2022 Public Housing Survey in Guangzhou, China, the results show that long commutes can weaken the intention to have children among young public housing residents. However, this effect is only found to be significant for the self-employed, part-time workers, and those working in the private sector, not for those working in the public sector. Moreover, the effects turn out to be more pronounced for those who commute by private car and active transportation than those who take public transportation. Finally, this study reveals that residential satisfaction mediates the nexus between long commutes and fertility intentions. The studies on balancing high-quality basic education development and controlling the increasing housing prices for sustainable development and social equity in big cities have drawn a huge academic attention. Taking Guangzhou's sub-districts as study areas, this research investigates the relationships of spatial distribution between housing prices and the high-quality schools with different grades and stages through examining point of interest (POI) data. The results show that: ① The public fiscal investment, educational reforms, enrollment changes, population numbers, applicant poll, as well as the local history, spatial planning and its functions are key factors that affect the spatial relationships between high-quality schools and housing prices. ② From the perspective of educational stages, high-quality elementary schools contribute the greatest correlation with housing prices, while sequentially the kindergartens, secondary schools and high schools are less related. ③ The general spatial correlation presents a "core-periphery" differentiation between the inner city and the suburban area from high to low in the municipality of Guangzhou; while in sub-districts level, the higher the density of high-quality schools, the more costly the housing it is. ④ There is a strong correlation relationship between the density of high-quality public schools and the high housing prices in city core, and there is a high agglomeration of high-quality private schools in the suburbs, especially the private kindergartens at the municipal level, contributes the greatest correlation with housing prices, while there is no correlation between the high quality schools and housing prices in the outskirts. The research calls for a reform to decrease the strong correlation between the high quality basic education and housing prices through rational planning by locating more better schools to suburban areas to change the imbalance of basic education distribution in Chinese cities. Rapid urbanization in China has shifted the logic and needs of rural resource allocation, prompting a transformative approach toward rural revitalization and sustainable development through comprehensive land consolidation. This paper offers a theoretical framework for understanding the driven adjustments in rural power, capital, and social structures facilitated by comprehensive land consolidation. It discusses how the construction of pastoral complexes influences the diversification of rural land use and ecological restoration through dynamic adjustments in power structures. This study illustrates that in Guangzhou, comprehensive land consolidation is indispensable for ensuring food security and fostering diverse rural industries. Furthermore, it facilitates the resource and commercialization of land, balances governmental social responsibilities with rational capital pursuits, and enriches the livelihood structures of social entities to ensure rural social equity. The pastoral complex model achieves a harmonious integration of rural socio-economic and natural systems. Innovations in paths of social participation help eliminate the effects of social inequality within the environment, while the theory of political ecology clearly analyzes the internal reasons for the interaction and strategic plays among diverse actors under this model. The case studies of the pastoral complex present the practice of national–capital–land–social relationships and changes in land benefits, showcasing a Chinese approach to rural development and social justice. The increasing emissions of industrial production and transportation have resulted in serious atmospheric heavy-metal pollution, posing threats to the health of urban residents. In this paper, the bryophyte is recommended to monitor the pollution, which features wide distribution, low cost, and being able to get intuitive results. Thus, a kind of moss (Sphagnum palustre) bag was applied to monitoring the concentrations of atmospheric heavy metal (incl. Cd, Cr, Cu, Pb and Zn) in Guangzhou City, and accordingly the pollution degree and health risks were evaluated. The results obtained from the monitoring showed that in comparison with the pre-exposure to the atmospheric heavy metal pollution, the post-exposure geometric mean values of concentrations of Cd, Cu, Pb and Zn contained in the mosses were 1.2, 2.3, 1.4 and 2.3 times higher than, respectively, however Cr concentration decreased slightly (0.9 times); and in general, the geometric mean values of concentrations of Cd, Cu, Pb and Zn were comparatively high in industrial areas, while in commercial areas, the concentrations of Cu, Pb and Zn were found to be higher than the scenic and residential areas. Principal component analysis (PCA) and cluster analysis (CA) revealed that industrial activities and traffic emission were the main sources of atmospheric heavy metal contamination of Guangzhou City. Following the heavy metal pollution status-quo investigation with moss, four functional areas were assessed using the contamination factor, which indicated that in the monitoring sites showing heavy metals (Cu, Pb, Zn) pollution was high/very-high, the emissions mainly came from coal combustion, industrial metal production and processing activities, while those showing moderate (Cu, Zn) pollution, the pollutants came from traffic sources, and the monitoring sites where heavy metal contamination level was low, were utterly distant from industrial emission sources and traffic pollution sources. Objective: Under the prevention and control measures of COVID‐19, the epidemiological situation of respiratory pathogens is not well known. Understanding the patterns of respiratory pathogens epidemiology under the prevention and control measures of COVID‐19 is important to guide resource allocation for existing and future treatment and prevention strategies. Methods: In total, 659 fever outpatients nasopharyngeal swabs were collected at fever illness onset during June in 2022 at the First Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University. Swabs were tested by real‐time fluorescent single‐tube multiplex polymerase chain reaction (PCR) for 12 respiratory pathogens. Moreover, 108 of the 659 swabs were tested for influenza virus antigen. Results: At least one pathogen was detected in 477 (72.38%) of 659 fever outpatients with multiple pathogens identified in 25 (3.79%). The highest multiple infectious pattern is parainfluenza virus in combination with influenza (five cases). Influenza A virus (IFA), human rhinovirus (HRV), and parainfluenza virus are the three leading virus pathogens with proportions of 64.64%, 5.01%, and 2.88%. School‐age children and adult groups have the highest pathogens positivity rate of 81.28% and 83.87%. Conclusion: A high proportion of adolescents and adults has respiratory pathogens detected during fever illnesses during June in 2022 under the prevention and control of COVID‐19. This study offers a discussion of the role of street music (busking) in urban public spaces using the lenses of performance theory and the theory of atmospheres in order to consider how street music and buskers shape the public space of a city. The study examines urban characters, soundscapes, emotions and affects, and atmospheres in relation to street musical performance. Explored in particular are the roles and processes of two levels of atmosphere—the atmospheric performance space and the atmosphere of a city. We take Guangzhou, China, as the case study and use questionnaires, in‐depth interviews, and participant observation as research methods to reach three main findings. First, street music has growing influence and affects how urban public spaces are appropriated and managed. Second, street music performance shapes the atmospheric qualities of urban public space and in doing so sensorially invigorates and animates urban space. Third, street music contributes to the broader atmosphere of the city. Such an atmosphere, created by Guangzhou's street music performances, that echoes Guangzhou's characters as a free, down‐to‐earth, tolerant, and vibrant city can be felt and warms those who encounter it. This research investigates environmental inequalities within Guangzhou's Huangpu District against the backdrop of rapid urbanisation and industrial expansion in Asia. This study identifies environmental hotspots, particularly in socially vulnerable areas characterised by high industrial density, using a vulnerability framework and analysing census and pollution data. Utilising satellite imagery, urban planning documents, and field research, we delve into the internal environmental conflicts arising from industrial land use. Our findings reveal how diverse stakeholders, guided by their rationales and interests, collectively contribute to spatial inequalities within a market-driven context. Importantly, we emphasise that environmental inequality transcends mere conflicts of interest among stakeholders and is fundamentally shaped by the prevailing market-oriented spatial development model in peri-urban areas. This model results in urban segmentation, socio-economic stratification, and an uneven distribution of environmental risks and resources. Our study advocates for a paradigmatic shift in China's peri-urban spatial development and the integration of environmental protection and social equity alongside economic growth. We recommend moving away from short-term speculative practices and promoting long-term, community-engaged urban renewal strategies that harmonise economic progress with improved living standards and environmental sustainability. Population aging is a global issue. China is facing the same challenge, especially in its megacities, with more than 10 million permanent urban residents. These densely populated cities urgently need the scientific planning and optimization of the layout of service facilities for older people. Taking Guangzhou, a megacity in China, as an example, this study uses point-of-interest (POI) data and the ID3 machine learning decision tree algorithm to train a site selection model for service facilities for older people. The model can help to select appropriate locations for new service facilities for older people more scientifically and accurately, and it can provide targeted suggestions to optimize the layout of the service facilities for older people in Guangzhou. First, Guangzhou city is divided into 29,793 grids of 500 m × 500 m based on the range of activities of older people, and 985 grids are found to contain service facilities for older people. Then, the POI data of the grid are fed into the ID3 algorithm for training to obtain a prediction model for the selection of sites for service facilities for older people. The effective prediction rate of the model reaches 87.54%. Then, we apply the site selection model to predict the whole city of Guangzhou, and 4534 grids are suitable for service facilities for older people. In addition, considering the degree of concentration of the elderly population in each street, we further filter out 1066 priority grids as the final site selection. Finally, taking into account the situation of the streets in different districts, we propose several strategies to optimize the layout of the construction of service facilities for older people. BackgroundIron deficiency and iron deficiency anemia cause a huge disease burden worldwide. Diet is an important factor affecting the iron levels. This study aims to explore the dietary patterns of school-aged children in rural areas of Guangzhou and their association with iron deficiency.MethodsData on dietary surveys, lifestyle, demographic and laboratory tests were gathered from rural school-age children in Guangzhou. Factor analysis was applied to derive dietary patterns. Robust Poisson regression and subgroup analysis were used to analyze the association between dietary patterns and iron deficiency.ResultsA total of 2,530 children and adolescents aged 9–17 years were enrolled. The prevalence of iron deficiency was 13.36%. Four dietary patterns were identified including snack and fast-food pattern, fruit and vegetable pattern, cereal and tuber pattern and meat and offal pattern. Both children and adolescents in the Q4 group (the highest propensity) of snack and fast-food pattern and cereal and tuber pattern had a higher risk of iron deficiency than the Q1 group (the lowest propensity). Both children and adolescents in the Q4 group of meat and offal pattern and fruit and vegetable pattern had a lower risk of iron deficiency than the Q1 group. The results of stratified analysis showed the negative effect of snack and fast-food pattern and the protective benefits of meat and offal pattern are more obvious for boys, and the negative effect of cereal and tuber pattern were obvious for girls. The negative effect or protective benefits of the four dietary patterns were obvious for children aged 9–13.ConclusionFemales, older children, and those with shorter sleep duration are at higher risk of iron deficiency. Snack and fast-food pattern and cereal and tuber pattern are risk factors for iron deficiency, and fruit and vegetable pattern and meat and offal pattern are protective factors for iron deficiency. The impact of diet on body iron levels is more obvious in boys and younger children. The findings of this study can provide evidence for formulating prevention and control measures on children and adolescents iron deficiency and iron deficiency anemia.

Abstract Study on export paintings has gradually shifted from artistic form to cultural connotation, with an emphasis on cross-cultural communication. Although the economic and social dimensions of their artistic value have been explored, few studies delve into the connection between Qing-era Guangzhou's trade culture and its color characteristics. Utilizing the HSV color model and the k-means algorithm, this study analyzes the color traits of 35 export paintings depicting Guangzhou landscapes and works from the "Thirteen-houses commercial zone," revealing Qing-era Guangzhou's urban impressions and Sino-Western artistic interactions. Key findings include: (1) the hue pixel range in Guangzhou export paintings primarily spans 10°–60° and 120°–250° (dominated by red and yellow-green), saturation values range from 1–82% (primarily low saturation), and value values range from 11–94% (with a wide variance); (2) compared to traditional Chinese paintings, the transformation from pure color (正色) → inter-color (间色) → projection-perspective and light source illustrates both the blending of Eastern and Western artistic cultures and a diminishing influence of traditional ceremonial culture; (3) in contrast with Western artworks, some Guangzhou export paintings display a Westernization trend in color structures, evident in vibrant colors and stark chiaroscuro contrasts. As bespoke art commodities, export paintings microscopically reflect Guangzhou's unique trade culture and socio-political dynamics. The shifts in color schemes, integration of realistic styles, and human-centric characteristics unveil the intricate interplay between quasi-realism and transcendental aesthetics in Qing-era Guangzhou, as well as the nuanced dynamics between social capital and art within a global trade network.

BackgroundThe city of Guangzhou has been the epicenter of dengue fever in China since the 1990s, with Aedes albopictus being the primary vector. The main method used to control vectors and prevent dengue fever has been the application of chemical insecticides; however, this control strategy has resulted in the development of resistance to these insecticides in mosquitoes. Here we report our investigation of the patterns of knockdown resistance (kdr) mutations in 15 field populations of Ae. albopictus collected from 11 districts in Guangzhou.ResultsFour mutant alleles (V1016G, F1534S, F1534C, F1534L) were detected in domain II and III of the voltage-gated sodium channel (VGSC) gene. Various allele frequencies of kdr mutations were observed (3.1-25.9% for V1016G, 22.6-85.5% for F1534S, 0-29.0% for F1534L, 0.6-54.2% for F1534C). Seven kdr haplotypes (VF, VS, VL, VC, GF, GC, GS) were identified; the highest frequency of haplotypes was found for the single mutant haplotype VS (50.8%), followed by the wild-type VF haplotype (21.7%) and the single mutant haplotype VC (11.9%). Of the three double mutant haplotypes, GF was the most frequent (8.8%), followed by GC (1.2%) and GS (0.8%). Aedes albopictus showed spatial heterogeneity in deltamethrin resistance in populations collected in Guangzhou. We also observed significant differences in haplotype frequency. The frequency of the VC haplotype was significantly higher in high-risk dengue areas than in low-risk ones.ConclusionsThe kdr allele V1016G was discovered for the first time in Guangzhou. Genetic isolation in mosquito populations and long-term insecticide selection seem to be responsible for the persistent, patchy distribution of kdr mutant alleles. The small-scale spatial heterogeneity in the distribution and frequency of kdr mutations may have important implications for vector control operations and insecticide resistance management strategies.

The relationship between social factors and the formation of exported mug designs is blurred. This study addresses how they influence material design. Based on a quantitative typological analysis, this paper interprets the cultural relationships underlying the evolution of mug designs exported during the Ming and Qing dynasties. The study reveals: (1) the typology and handle styles of mugs can be categorized into six types, with a predominance of Cylindrical bodies and Ear-shaped handles. Notably, artistic emphasis is concentrated on Bulbous cup bodies and Tail outward curved handles; (2) the design of mugs in the eighteenth century exhibited diversity, morphological similarities, and feature continuity, evolving from representational (Ming Dynasty) to abstract and then to minimalistic styles (Qing Dynasty), particularly evident in the three-dimensional modeling of handles for ergonomic comfort (transitioning from a singular Outward curved form to Ear-shaped form, and then to Entwined branch form); (3) the body shape of mugs transformed from Arc-barrel bodies to Bulbous bodies (focusing on heat retention), and eventually to Cylindrical bodies (prioritizing heat retention, practicality, and cost-efficiency).; (4) the volume of mugs steadily increased from the early eighteenth century, generally classified into large volume (≥ 500 ml), medium volume (200-499 ml), and small volume (< 200 ml); (5) considering the extreme range of volume (11090 ml) and height (25 cm), it indicates that these two variables do not necessarily have a direct positive correlation; (6) the low center of gravity in handle design (average width of 3.4 cm against an average height of 9.9 cm for the body) reflects considerations for the distribution of liquid weight and operational convenience. The volume of sample-10 (11127 ml) notably exceeds the typical range for tea-drinking utensils, revealing the mechanism of wealth and status symbolism. Market demand orientation emerged as the primary driver for the evolution of export mug designs during the Ming and Qing Dynasties, with adjustments in the merchant system playing a secondary role. This article examines the changing role of the local government's environmental management in Guangzhou, China, through a historical content analysis of archival data. Environmental governance in Guangzhou has followed a government-led, top-down model. The content analysis showed that over the past four decades, the role of Guangzhou's municipal environmental governance has been characterized by transformation -- from passive responses to accelerating and securing economic growth, and finally to active interventions that balance economic growth and ecological protection. The changing role of the Guangzhou government in environmental governance is driven by varied urban political priorities at different historical stages. This article argues that the urban political economy and the national government's commitment to pragmatic, sustainable development shaped the local government's response to environmental problems. Not only does language practice in shop signs generate a sense of place with particular meanings to visitors, it also indicates the kind of economic activity performed in that place. By investigating and comparing the shop name signs in the two largest foreign migrant neighbourhoods in Guangzhou, specifically, Baohan Straight Street (African community) and Yuanjing Road (Korean community), this study aims to reveal the distinctive economic patterns reflected by the two different linguistic landscapes and to shed new light on the relationship between linguistic landscape and economy. Quantitative and qualitative methods were employed to interpret the messages the shop name signs convey, including an examination of language choices and combinations as well as other visual resources used in the signs. The findings suggest that the foreign languages, namely, English and Korean, perform contrasting functions, with the former providing more practical information while the latter being more of an index of 'Korean authenticity'. The disparate linguistic landscapes in these two contexts emerge as an outcome of two specific economic patterns, namely, 'low-end globalisation' and 'symbolic economy'. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Urban commercial centers play a critical role in the development of cities, and it is of significant relevance to research the influencing variables of the urban vitality of commercial centers to improve the quality of urban commercial centers. This study employs big data to construct a multiple linear regression model in order to uncover the spatial-distribution characteristics of urban vitality and commercial sectors in commercial centers within the primary urban region of Guangzhou. The findings indicate that the commercial sectors of life, business, finance, and leisure have a substantial influence on the fluctuation of pedestrian flow in commercial centers throughout the day. Conversely, public service commercial sectors do not have a significant impact on pedestrian flow. Furthermore, the effect of various commercial sectors on the vibrancy of urban commercial centers varies, and their performance differs on weekdays and holidays. Additionally, the level of integration among commercial sectors affects the vitality of the city's commercial space. Leisure plays an important role in people's happiness; therefore, facilitating participation in leisure activities has become one of the pathways to improve urban residents' wellbeing and realize high-quality new urbanization. This study focuses on migrant workers' leisure behavior and quality of life. Based on the self-selection hypothesis and structural equation modeling analysis, this study explores the influence of both leisure environment and leisure attitude on leisure behavior. First, our analysis of the leisure environment revealed that leisure behaviors differed according to leisure environments. Residents of resource-rich communities had the longest leisure time, a medium leisure distance, and a positive leisure attitude. Communities with medium leisure resources had the shortest leisure time and closest leisure distance. Communities with scarce leisure resources had the longest leisure distance and the most negative leisure attitude. Second, by examing the match of leisure attitudes and leisure environments, we found that the average leisure time of matching groups was longer, and they generally spent their leisure time within 1 kilometer around the community. Furthermore, the leisure time of residents in communities with scarce leisure resources did not show significant differences. For the mismatching groups of leisure attitudes and environments, about 60% of the residents spent less than 2 hours on average per day, and the leisure distance did not show any significant difference. Third, the structural equation modeling analysis indicated that both attitude and environmental attributes can affect migrant workers' leisure behavior; they further interact with each other and jointly determine residents' leisure behavior. The temporal (leisure time) and spatial (leisure distance) dimensions of leisure behavior are influenced by different mechanisms. Leisure attitude has the most direct effect on leisure time, while the effects of leisure environment on leisure distance are complex. Socio-demographic attributes affect leisure environment, leisure attitude, and leisure behavior. Men and women do not differ in terms of leisure time, but women's leisure distance is greater than men's. Age has no significant effect on residents' leisure behavior, but younger persons enjoy more leisure. Monthly household income has a significantly negative effect on residents' leisure time and leisure distance, while it has a significantly positive effect on leisure environment. Persons with higher education pay more attention to their leisure life, and spend more time and travel to participate in more leisure activities. This study makes three contributions. First, in the context of leisure scenarios, it promotes the combination of self-selection effect and rational behavior theory, and fully considers the role played by attitude in the mechanism of environmental influence on behavior. Existing studies of transportation mostly follow functionalism in the pursuit of efficiency, and the scope and ability of residents' self-selection is limited. This study of leisure behavior empirically demonstrates the importance of leisure environment and leisure concepts cultivation. Second, the study of migrant workers' leisure provides inspiration for the construction of new urbanization. In China's rapid urbanization, migrant workers have made positive contributions to the development of cities at the sacrifice of their youth and health. The leisure self-selection effect can be used to improve residents' leisure participation and subjective well-being by enhancing the community's leisure environment. Third, the migrant worker group is diversifying. With the deepening of new urbanization, their daily lives are changing and they are making continual efforts to adapt to urban life, rather than remaining passive.

In recent years, the state has promulgated a series of policies aimed at establishing a national territorial spatial planning system and advocating for the creation of an integrated "multi-regulation in one" system. The issuance of these policies marked the formal commencement of constructing the territorial spatial planning system. Territorial space is a type of environment, and the description of its functions essentially elucidates the relationship between humans and land. This relationship represents a complex interplay of static and dynamic interactions among elements such as stakeholders, the environment, and activities within a defined spatiotemporal framework of the system. In the new era, territorial spatial planning is required to perceive, analyze, evaluate, and decide upon various resource elements and the spatiotemporal information of diverse activities of people within a national territory. Multi-source urban spatiotemporal data empowers the intelligent processes of perception, analysis, evaluation, and decision-making regarding these resources and activities, propelling the evolution from traditional to smart territorial spatial planning. This study aimed to construct a comprehensive framework for smart territorial spatial planning and multi-source urban spatiotemporal data application to promote the modernization of the territorial governance system and its capabilities. This was done by adhering to the fundamental principles of "ecological priority" and "human-centricity." Taking Guangzhou as an example, this study investigated how multi-source urban spatiotemporal data empowers the drafting, approval, and supervisory execution of smart territorial spatial planning. Multi-source urban spatiotemporal data support territorial spatial planning in four dimensions: sustainable development, high-quality growth, high-quality living, and high-level governance. For sustainable development, spatiotemporal data obtained from land surveys, ground/subterranean observations, and spatial planning outcomes, bolster the assessment of land resource carrying capacity and suitability evaluation for territorial development. This approach fosters optimized layouts for ecological, agricultural, and urban spaces and propel the construction of beautiful territorial spaces. Regarding high-quality growth, spatiotemporal data provide a robust foundation for data support and decision-making in national territorial space governance. In urban villages, multi-source data aid in enhancing the quality of high-density mixed-use spaces. In wholesale markets, data analyses assist in the optimal allocation of spatial resources, promoting orderly governance. In village-level industrial parks, spatiotemporal data underpin classified policymaking, refining industrial layouts. In terms of high-quality living, multi-source urban spatiotemporal data support the construction of diverse human-centric cities by precisely quantifying the level of street greening and estimating the demand for various public services. Regarding high-level governance, multi-source data facilitate the monitoring, assessment, and early warning of territorial space resources as well as the scientific adjustment and decision-making of related management measures. This data-driven planning approach provides scientific decision-making support for high-level urban governance, marking a transition toward more intelligent and refined territorial spatial planning. However, practicing smart territorial spatial planning in Guangzhou not only validates the empowering role of multi-source urban spatiotemporal data but also exposes the challenges in its application. The acquisition of multi-source urban spatiotemporal data is difficult and costly, and the absence of unified application guidelines presents challenges in data acquisition and comparison of analytical results. Consequently, the future research on smart territorial spatial planning should focus on establishing standardized data channels and application norms, enhancing the multi-source data integration and the construction of a "one map" platform, and fully incorporating interdisciplinary theories and technologies.

To provide diverse book lending channels and services to the public and to guide healthy competition in library industry, this paper discusses the coopetition relationship between online shared bookstores and libraries from the perspective of readers’ choice behavior. According to the questionnaire survey from 187 readers in Guangzhou, MNL model is adopted to quantitatively analyze the effect of various factors such as personal attributes, borrowing requirements and habits on readers’ choice. Research shows that online shared bookstore and library, mainly public library, have different competition in terms of multi-dimensional needs and preferences. Thus, this paper proposes the potential cooperation mode between online bookstore and library in collection, data and space, so as to promote the mutually beneficial coexistence between them. This paper examines the recent growth of government-led affordable housing in Guangzhou, addressing a paucity of global housing studies that explore experimental and contextual policy approaches in China. It also addresses the lack of Chinese housing studies recognizing the impact of housing design governance, including regulatory controls and design standards, on housing preferences, supply and lifestyles. Since 1995, the supply of affordable housing has surged, now surpassing that of market housing for the first time. This response to failures in the private housing market and a lack of equitable access to housing signifies a significant shift, acknowledging the need to re-establish a state-led and long-term public housing supply after decades of housing marketization. Employing an architectural design research perspective, this paper investigates the interplay between affordable housing supply and the emergence of housing standards, examining resulting housing design outcomes. It poses the question: What changes in housing policy and interventions in housing markets are necessary to increase public rental housing supply, and how do these changes affect housing outcomes? The paper explores these questions through a discussion of the key moments in affordable housing policy and housing estate development in Guangzhou that facilitated the creation of widely accessible public housing and long-term housing assets. This provides new insights into China’s unique approach to translating central government social welfare and housing policy through contextual design experimentation and pilot housing projects, departing from the conventional top-down policy implementation found in most other countries.

Background Prevention of disease in Traditionnal Chinese Medicine (TCM) is a distinguishing advantage of TCM health management services, however, the holistic health state of the patients remains to be elucidated and evaluated. Objective To evaluate the health-related quality of life (HRQoL) and its influencing factors in patients with prevention of disease in TCM. Methods From May to June 2022, a stratified cluster sampling method was used to randomly select a district-level TCM hospital from each of the four administrative regions of Guangzhou (Liwan District, Tianhe District, Baiyun District, Huadu District) as the research site. The EQ-5D-5L scale was used to investigate the patients with prevention of disease in TCM by questionnaire in primary care, and the health utility value was calculated according to the Chinese EQ-5D utility score system. The influencing factors of health utility value and EQ-VAS score were analyzed by using optimal scale regression analysis. Results A total of 660 questionnaires were completed in this survey, including 630 valid questionnaires, with a effective recovery rate of 95.45%. Among the 630 investigated patients with prevention of disease in TCM, 185 patients (29.4%) visited for daily health care, 242 patients (38.4%) visited at the initial stage of disease for discomfort, 218 patients (34.6%) visited for avoiding exacerbation of current illness, 67 patients (10.6%) visited for post-illness rehabilitation physiotherapy. The top three conditions for prevention of disease in TCM were insomnia disorder, epigastric pain and arthralgia. The EQ-5D-5L health utility value for the investigated patients was 0.942 (0.893, 1.000), and the EQ-VAS score was 80 (70, 90). All five dimensions based on the ranking of difficulties frequency were pain/discomfort (50.2%), anxiety/depression (46.9%), daily activities (14.4%), mobility (9.9%) and self-care (6.0%). The influencing factors of health utility value based on the ranking of importance were the main causes of most recent prevention of disease in TCM (0.366), age (0.281), comorbidities of TCM conditions (0.145), occupation (0.111) and education level (0.098). The influencing factors of EQ-VAS score based on the ranking of importance were marital status (0.378), understanding of prevention of disease in TCM (0.353), age (0.176) and monthly income (0.092) . Conclusion The HRQoL of patients with prevention of disease in TCM in primary care in Guangzhou is at a medium level. The health utility values were relatively low in patients suffered from TCM conditions such as lung cancer, stroke, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, osteoporosis and breast cancer, aged 60 and above, comorbid with 2 or more TCM conditions, with manual labour and lower education level. The self-rated health status was relatively poor in patients absence from marriage, unaware of prevention of disease in TCM, aged 60 and above, with higher monthly income. HRQoL should be applied reasonably as an important outcome indicator. Attention should be paid to the population with poor HRQoL among patients with prevention of disease in TCM, the promotion and dissemination of the concept and connotation of prevention of disease in TCM should be strengthened.

Analyzing the trajectory and mechanism of rural industrial change is important for understanding urban–rural integration and facilitating rural revitalization. Based on the data of industrial enterprises in 1112 administrative villages of Guangzhou, China, from 1978 to 2020, we identify the evolution trend of rural industry by investigating the spatial–temporal dynamics of industrial changes in rural areas. An extended triple-process framework incorporating urbanization and greenization was employed to unravel the underlying mechanism of the trajectory of rural industrialization. The results highlight the transformation from rural to suburban industrialization. In the past twenty years, rapid urbanization has contributed to the establishment of development zones. The agglomeration economy has led to a higher concentration of manufacturing industries in these development zones rather than rural areas. The eco-friendly development has resulted in a green transition in rural areas, further restricting the growth of traditional rural industries. Our analysis provides a nuanced picture of Guangzhou’s spatial–temporal dynamics of rural and suburban industrialization. Meanwhile, it emphasizes the importance of urbanization and greenization in explaining the recent transformation of industrialization in China.

Ancient trees play an important ecosystem service role in high-density cities, revealing the zonal distribution characteristics of vegetation under climate influence. The ancient trees in Guangzhou and Foshan in 2018 and 2023 were taken as study objects to explore the evolution of their spatio-temporal patterns and to analyze the spatial differentiation characteristics of their driving factors using the geographical weighted regression (GWR) model. The results showed the following: (1) The ancient trees in Guangzhou and Foshan were composed of typical subtropical evergreen broad-leaved forest communities, mainly represented by broad-leaved species of evergreen dicotyledonous plants. The dominant species mainly included Litchi chinensis, Ficus microcarpa, Canarium pimela, Ficus virens, and Dimocarpus longan. However, there was a significant difference between Guangzhou and Foshan. (2) The number of ancient trees in Guangzhou showed negative growth, while Foshan saw a significant increase. However, species diversity in both areas increased, with the highest diversity in the northeast, higher diversity in the south-central part, and lower diversity in the western and northwestern parts. (3) The maximum kernel density of ancient trees in Guangzhou and Foshan differed 22-fold, indicating a spatial distribution pattern of multiple clusters. (4) The GWR model effectively explained the driving factors of the heterogeneity of the spatial distribution of ancient trees. The results showed that artificial disturbance was the most important factor affecting the spatial distribution of ancient trees in high-density urban agglomerations in the same vegetation zone. The study clarified the characteristics of the spatial distribution and species diversity of ancient trees in the region, revealed the driving factors for the evolution of the spatial pattern of ancient trees in highly urbanized areas, and provided guidelines for policies and measures for enhancing biodiversity and conserving germplasm resources in the region.

In the context of the national ecological security development strategy, constructing regional ecological networks centered on protected areas and ecological corridors has become an urgent issue in protected areas system development of China. We focused on strengthening ecological connections between protected areas in Guangzhou, identified the ecological resource patches, ecological corridors, and ecological nodes by using Invest model, connectivity analysis, circuit theory models, and graph-theoretical network structure evaluation, and constructed an ecological network for the Guangzhou with nature reserves as the core. The results showed that 52 ecological resource patches were identified in the study area, covering a total area of 1450.01 km². Nature reserves accounted for 76.4% of the total area, forming the main part of the ecological resource patches. 115 ecological corridors were identified, with a total length of 900.56 km and an average length of 7.83 km. Furthermore, 72 ecological key points were identified, covering a total area of 17.57 km², and 81 ecological breakpoints, with a total area of 35.9 km². The network structure indices (α = 0.65, β = 2.21, and γ = 0.77) indicated a reasonably structured and well-connected network. By exploring pathways for constructing regional ecological networks under the protected areas system and enriching the application of circuit theory models in ecological network construction, this study provides scientific basis for regional ecological security and biodiversity conservation. How do the manifestations of deportability in everyday life and deportation experiences constitute African migrants into a "deportspora" in China? Despite the scholarly attention paid to the migration of Africans to China, questions of deportability and the simultaneous, reverse flows through their deportation are under-explored. In this article, I examine this critical gap by exploring the lifeworlds of Nigerian migrants and deportees from China, using data from two separate studies conducted in 2017 and 2020-2021. Nigerians are exposed to "illegalization," experience deportability threats, and become vulnerable to arrest and re-dispersal as deportees. The realities of being undocumented and overstaying, the social act of running, and the host society's instrumentalization of deportation to regulate or order the migrant community all point to the existence of Nigerian deportspora in China. The import of this form of social formation makes deportability and deportation an essential part of social life in the African migrant community in the Chinese city of Guangzhou. This study assessed the regional differences of PM2.5 (fine particulate matter) concentration and secondary components in China. Through chemical analysis (Thermal/Optical Carbon Analyzer and ion chromatography) and statistical tools (SPSS and Origin software), PM2.5 samples' concentration and main components were estimated and compared in Tianjin and Guangzhou in December 2016. The average PM2.5 mass concentration was 148 μg/m3 in Tianjin and 62 μg/m3 in Guangzhou, indicating heavy air pollution in both cities. Organic carbon constituted 15% of PM2.5 in Tianjin, while that accounted for 25% in Guangzhou. The concentration of the secondary organic carbon accounted for 40% and 33% of organic carbon in Tianjin and Guangzhou, respectively. The ionic components in Tianjin made up 49% of PM2.5, while those of Guangzhou were responsible for 36% locally. The sulfate oxidation ratio reached 0.41 in Tianjin and 0.53 in Guangzhou while the nitrate oxidation ratio was 0.23 and 0.14 in the two cities, respectively. These results indicated high secondary conversion rate in PM2.5 pollution in both cities and suggested that PM2.5 mass concentration could not fully reflect its environmental and health effects, and so more attentions should be paid to the effects of its components, especially secondary components. Given the complex interplay between economic and cultural–historical factors, this paper explores scene perception and its mechanism in individual and collective cognition of historical commercial streets. Based on a perception model constructed from scene theory, the study utilizes user scene experience feedback from Beijing Road, a commercial pedestrian street in Guangzhou. It conducts a systematic assessment using hierarchical analysis (AHP) across three dimensions: authenticity, theatricality, and legitimacy. The findings reveal the following: (1) according to visitors, traditional cuisine, cultural and creative arts, and Lingnan's intangible cultural heritage received low ratings; (2) historical relics and traditional cuisine are dominant factors, highlighting public attention to cultural heritage, but the role of historical–cultural characteristics and festival activities is relatively marginalized; (3) cultural–historical relics and traditional cuisine are the leading factors that contribute to an authentic experience, while historical context and festival activities constitute secondary factors; (4) cultural landscapes and arts are central to theatrical experiences, with modern visual elements playing a lesser role; (5) diversified commercial formats and public services are the core factors influencing legitimacy experience, reflecting the role of market diversity and policy orientation in building consumer trust. The design of historical and cultural streets should prioritize the preferences of those experiencing them to promote cultural identity and historical continuity. Additionally, the synergy between commercial diversity and policy orientation should be strategically emphasized to form a business ecosystem supporting sustainable development. Future commercial street renewals should focus on the key role of visual narrative in shaping brand culture. This paper offers insights into the dynamic process of constructing scene experience from perspectives of spatial materialization and emotional empowerment to cultural identity, providing references for strategies in historical place renewal. Leisure plays an important role in people's happiness; therefore, facilitating participation in leisure activities has become one of the pathways to improve urban residents' wellbeing and realize high-quality new urbanization. This study focuses on migrant workers' leisure behavior and quality of life. Based on the selfselection hypothesis and structural equation modeling analysis, this study explores the influence of both leisure environment and leisure attitude on leisure behavior. First, our analysis of the leisure environment revealed that leisure behaviors differed according to leisure environments. Residents of resource-rich communities had the longest leisure time, a medium leisure distance, and a positive leisure attitude. Communities with medium leisure resources had the shortest leisure time and closest leisure distance. Communities with scarce leisure resources had the longest leisure distance and the most negative leisure attitude. Second, by examing the match of leisure attitudes and leisure environments, we found that the average leisure time of matching groups was longer, and they generally spent their leisure time within 1 kilometer around the community. Furthermore, the leisure time of residents in communities with scarce leisure resources did not show significant differences. For the mismatching groups of leisure attitudes and environments, about 60% of the residents spent less than 2 hours on average per day, and the leisure distance did not show any significant difference. Third, the structural equation modeling analysis indicated that both attitude and environmental attributes can affect migrant workers' leisure behavior; they further interact with each other and jointly determine residents' leisure behavior. The temporal (leisure time) and spatial (leisure distance) dimensions of leisure behavior are influenced by different mechanisms. Leisure attitude has the most direct effect on leisure time, while the effects of leisure environment on leisure distance are complex. Socio-demographic attributes affect leisure environment, leisure attitude, and leisure behavior. Men and women do not differ in terms of leisure time, but women's leisure distance is greater than men's. Age has no significant effect on residents' leisure behavior, but younger persons enjoy more leisure. Monthly household income has a significantly negative effect on residents' leisure time and leisure distance, while it has a significantly positive effect on leisure environment. Persons with higher education pay more attention to their leisure life, and spend more time and travel to participate in more leisure activities. This study makes three contributions. First, in the context of leisure scenarios, it promotes the combination of self-selection effect and rational behavior theory, and fully considers the role played by attitude in the mechanism of environmental influence on behavior. Existing studies of transportation mostly follow functionalism in the pursuit of efficiency, and the scope and ability of residents' self-selection is limited. This study of leisure behavior empirically demonstrates the importance of leisure environment and leisure concepts cultivation. Second, the study of migrant workers' leisure provides inspiration for the construction of new urbanization. In China's rapid urbanization, migrant workers have made positive contributions to the development of cities at the sacrifice of their youth and health. The leisure self-selection effect can be used to improve residents' leisure participation and subjective well-being by enhancing the community's leisure environment. Third, the migrant worker group is diversifying. With the deepening of new urbanization, their daily lives are changing and they are making continual efforts to adapt to urban life, rather than remaining passive. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The study of everyday life has gained attention across various disciplines in the context of modernity. This study utilizes Lefebvre's rhythmanalysis to explore the everyday experiences of residents in the Xiguan Community, a historically significant residential area in western Guangzhou undergoing urbanization and tourism development. Adopting an emic perspective, this study employed auto-ethnography to depict the daily rhythms and spatially embodied experiences of the author, a native resident of the Xiguan Community. By incorporating reflective and self-narrative elements and comparing them across generations, this approach provides first-hand knowledge and self-awareness. This research offers an insider's comprehensive understanding of the effects of urbanization and tourism on residents' everyday lives. Informed by Lefebvre's rhythmanalysis, this analysis incorporates spatial and temporal dimensions, with a specific emphasis on residents' experiences of spatial embodiment and their engagement with everyday rhythms. The study reveals two key findings: First, urbanization and the commodification of landscapes have created a constructed "the present" in traditional communities, displacing the meaningful "existence" of everyday life. Certain spaces within these communities have detached from residents' everyday lives, serving urban and tourism purposes, and leading to partial alienation in spatial and temporal dimensions. These spaces represent the simulacra and fragments of residents' everyday lives, lacking subjectivity, temporality, and wholeness. Over time, the "existence" that embodies the meaning of residents' everyday lives has been squeezed out by structural forces such as urban renewal and community tourism. For tourists, these landscapes may serve only as replicas of attractions, devoid of the essence of residents' everyday lives. For the residents, these community spaces have become manifestations of instrumental rationality and commodification. Second, this study highlights that traditional community residents' bodies are disciplined and governed by the instrumental rationality of urban production and the invisible rhythms of the tourism industry. In large cities, the significance of individual bodies in traditional urban communities is often overlooked, as bodies become tools for creating value through work. Individuals adjust their everyday rhythms based on urban settings' production rationality and efficiency priorities. This undermines the bodily rhythms that align with natural cycles and prompts residents to distance themselves from traditional communities. While the older generation in the Xiguan Community experiences overlapping leisure time and shares community spaces, fostering solid social relationships, the younger generation faces longer working hours, extended commuting distances, and more individualized leisure time. As a result, there is a lack of synchronization in leisure rhythms among neighbors. The embodied rhythms of traditional community residents have shifted from a state of harmony with natural rhythms and community spaces to being governed by the instrumental rationality of urban production and invisible rhythms of the tourism industry. This study provides an emic and longitudinal perspective to the investigation of spatial experiences and embodied rhythms in urban and tourism development. The use of autoethnography amplifies residents' voices and calls for greater consideration of local daily life. These findings emphasize the importance of incorporating residents' everyday experiences into the planning and development of sustainable communities and tourism. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
