Abstract

Although Verb-Object (VO) is the basic unmarked constituent order of predicates in Present-Day English, in earlier stages of the language Object-Verb (OV) is the preferred pattern in some syntactic contexts. OV predicates are significantly frequent in Old and Middle English, and are still attested up to 1550, when they 'appear to dwindle away' (Moerenhout & van der Wurff 2005: 83). This study looks at OV in Early Modern English (EModE), using a corpus-based perspective and statistical modelling to explore a number of textual, syntactic, and semantic/processing variables which may account for what by that time had already become a marked, though not yet archaic, word-order pattern. The data for the study were retrieved from the Penn-Helsinki Parsed Corpus of Early Modern English (1500-1710) and the Parsed Corpus of Early English Correspondence (c.1410-1695), the largest electronic parsed collections of EModE texts. The findings reveal a preference for OV in speech-related text types, which are less constrained by the rules of grammar, in marked syntactic contexts, and in configurations not subject to the general linearisation principles of end-weight and given-new. Abstract

During the growing season, olives progress through nine different phenological stages, starting with bud development and ending with senescence. During their lifespan, olives undergo changes in their external color and chemical properties. To tackle these properties, we used hyperspectral imaging during the growing season of the olives. The objective of this study was to develop a lightweight model capable of identifying olives in the hyperspectral images using their spectral information. To achieve this goal, we utilized the hyperspectral imaging of olives while they were still on the tree and conducted this process throughout the entire growing season directly in the field without artificial light sources. The images were taken on-site every week from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. UTC to avoid light saturation and glitters. The data were analyzed using training and testing classifiers, including Decision Tree, Logistic Regression, Random Forest, and Support Vector Machine on labeled datasets. The Logistic Regression model showed the best balance between classification success rate, size, and inference time, achieving a 98% F1-score with less than 1 KB in parameters. A reduction in size was achieved by analyzing the wavelengths that were critical in the decision making, reducing the dimensionality of the hypercube. So, with this novel model, olives in a hyperspectral image can be identified during the season, providing data to enhance a farmer's decision-making process through further automatic applications. Abstract

Social networks are a fundamental piece of the current communication, allowing the participation of people in the construction of news through the expression of their opinions. This study explores the presence of rape myths in social networks in the case of the rape and suicide complaint of Antonia Barra Parra, a 21-year-old Chilean woman. Thematic analysis in the framework of social phenomenology was used to analyze comments posted in four news videos, produced by Chilean open television channels and available on the YouTube platform. Four general themes were identified: topics related to her, related to the rape, topics related to stereotypes, and related to suicide, the first three referring to rape myths, and the fourth to the victim's suicide. This study evidence that rape myths described in the literature are present in the discourses of the social networks, showing high levels of misogynist and depreciation of women. In addition, particular rape myths emerge, which are related to stereotypes associated with hegemonic beauty and the social status of the victim and the aggressor. The contents related to suicide show two themes: comments that reinforce rape myths and comments that interpret suicide as an act that unveils sexual aggression. These results suggest that social networks are useful to study how individuals reproduce rape culture in the analysis of sexual violence cases. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aim. This research proposes deeply analyzing the interactions between adultcentrism and the exercise of childhood protagonism in educational contexts. Method. The methodological de-sign assumes elements from Participatory Action Research through dialogic strategies of in-formation production, such as graphic, spatial techniques, social theatre, discussion groups, and interviews of adults. Twenty-one people participated in this research project, four teach-ers and 15 students between 10 and 12 years old from a school in Chile. The dimensions of analysis were adultcentrism, protagonism of childhood, relationships between adulthood and childhood, and gender diversity. The data analysis was based on the process of open, axial, and selective coding, allowing the emergence of new categories. Results. The research find-ings show that the main category is the interaction between adultcentrism and protagonism. This category is expressed in 5 subcategories: power relations, organization and decision-making, diversities, treatment and affections, technologies in dispute, and perspective and gender stereotypes. Conclusions and recommendations. The research promotes more open and democratic classroom practices in the education field, allowing the teaching staff to gen-erate collaborative work co-constructed and situated to encourage childhood autonomy. In its practical implications, this research allows considering the opinions of childhood in the elabo-ration of the plans that schools in Chile must implement, such as school connivance and citi-zen training plans. Objetivo. La investigación busca radiografiar cómo se expresan las interacciones entre el adultocentrismo y el ejercicio del protagonismo de las infancias en contextos educativos. Método. El diseño metodológico asume elementos derivados de la investigación acción participante por medio de estrategias dialógicas de producción de información, como las técnicas espaciales gráficas, teatro social, grupos de discusión y, en el caso de la adultez, las entrevistas. Participaron de este estudio 21 personas, 4 docentes y 15 estudiantes de entre 10 y 12 años, pertenecientes a un centro educativo en Chile. Las dimensiones de análisis fueron: adultocentrismo, protagonismo de las infancias, relaciones entre la adultez y la niñez, y diversidad de género. El análisis de datos se basó en el proceso de codificación abierta, axial y selectiva, permitió la emergencia de nuevas categorías. Resultados. Los principales hallazgos del estudio, dan cuenta de una categoría principal, la interacción entre adultocentrismo y protagonismo, la cual se expresa en 5 subcategorías, relaciones de poder, organización y toma de decisiones, diversidades, tratos y afectos, tecnologías en disputa, y perspectiva y estereotipos de género. Conclusiones y recomendaciones. La investigación promueve en el ámbito educativo prácticas áulicas más abiertas y democráticas, que permiten, al personal docente, generar un trabajo colaborativo co-construido y situado, a fin de favorecer la autonomía de niñas y niños. En sus implicancias prácticas, esta investigación permite considerar las opiniones de las infancias en la elaboración de los planes que deben implementar las escuelas en Chile, como el de convivencia escolar y formación ciudadana. Participaram deste estudo 21 pessoas, 4 professores e 15 estudantes entre 10 e 12 anos, pertencentes a um centro educacional no Chile. As dimensões de análise foram: adultocentrismo, protagonismo da infância, relações entre vida adulta e infância e diversidade de gênero. A análise dos dados baseou-se no processo de codificação aberta, axial e seletiva, permitindo o surgimento de no-vas categorias. Resultados. Os principais resultados do estudo dão conta de uma categoria principal, a interação entre adultocentrismo e protagonismo, que se expressa em 5 subcatego-rias, Relações de poder, organização e tomada de decisões, diversidades, tratamento e afetos, tecnologias em disputa e perspectiva e estereótipos de gênero. Conclusões e recomendações. A pesquisa promove práticas de sala de aula mais abertas e democráticas no campo edu-cacional, o que permite ao corpo docente gerar um trabalho colaborativo co-construído e situ-ado, a fim de favorecer a autonomia de meninas e meninos. Em suas implicações práticas, esta pesquisa permite considerar as opiniões das crianças na elaboração dos planos que as escolas do Chile devem implementar, como a convivência escolar e a educação para a cidadania.
