Chemical control is the main weed control method in garlic crops; however, this crop is sensitive to herbicides, which can cause injuries and decrease yield depending on the products used, application timing, rate, and cultivar. In this context, the objective of this study was to evaluate the selectivity of herbicides for garlic plants (cultivar Chonan), using different application timings. A greenhouse experiment was conducted in a completely randomized design with four replications. An 8×2 factorial arrangement was used, in which the first factor consisted of a control without herbicide and seven herbicides (linuron, diuron, pendimethalin, s-metolachlor, oxyfluorfen, flumioxazin, and oxadiazon) applied according to the second factor, application timings (preemergence or post-emergence). Phytotoxicity, photosynthetic rate, stomata morphometry, bulb diameter, and crop yield of garlic were evaluated. Pre-emergence applications were more selective than post emergence applications. The herbicides linuron, diuron, s-metolachlor, and oxadiazon applied at pre-emergence, and s-metolachlor, oxyfluorfen, flumioxazin, and oxadiazon applied at post-emergence were not selective for the Chonan garlic cultivar. Pendimethalin presented the highest selectivity, regardless of the application timing. Oxyfluorfen and flumioxazin applied at pre-emergence and linuron and diuron applied at post-emergence were selective for the cultivar Chonan., O principal método de controle de plantas daninhas na cultura do alho é o químico, contudo essa cultura é extremamente sensível à herbicidas, podendo sofrer injúrias e redução de produtividade dependendo dos produtos utilizados, modalidade de aplicação, dose, cultivar, dentre outros. Assim o objetivo do presente estudo foi avaliar a seletividade de herbicidas para a cultura do alho cultivar Chonan, aplicados em diferentes modalidades de aplicação. Para isso foi conduzido, em casa de vegetação, um experimento em delineamento inteiramente casualizado, com quatro repetições. O experimento contou com 16 tratamentos, dispostos em esquema fatorial 8 x 2. O primeiro fator é representado por uma testemunha sem herbicida e sete herbicidas (linuron, diuron, pendimethalin, s-metolachlor, oxyfluorfen, flumioxazin e oxydiazon), e o segundo fator pela modalidade de aplicação (pré-emergência ou pós emergência). Foi avaliado a fitointoxicação, taxa fotossintética, morfometria de estômatos, diâmetro de bulbos e produtividade da cultura do alho. As aplicações em pré-emergência foram mais seletivas em comparação com as de pós emergência. Os herbicidas linuron, diuron, s-metolachlor e oxadiazon aplicados na pré emergência e s-metolachlor, oxyfluorfen, flumioxazin e oxadiazon em pós-emergência não foram seletivos para o alho, cultivar Chonan. O pendimethalin foi o herbicida que apresentou a maior seletividade, independentemente da época de aplicação. Enquanto que oxyfluorfen e flumioxazin foram seletivos quando aplicados em pré-emergência e linuron e diuron em pós emergência do alho cultivar Chonan.

Background: Rice lines displaying resistance to quizalofop-p-ethyl (quizalofop), an acetyl coenzyme A carboxylase (ACCase)-inhibiting herbicide, were developed to facilitate control of imidazolinone-resistant weedy rice (red rice), as well as other susceptible grasses. Objective: To assess the sensitivity of weedy rice accessions from Brazil to quizalofop. Methods: Two bioassays were conducted on the greenhouse from March to June 2016, in a completely random design with a two-factor factorial combination of treatments and four replications. The factor A was weedy rice accession and factor B was quizalofop rates (0, 25 and 50 g a.i. ha-1). It was assessed a total of 84 genotypes in the two bioassays, composed of 78 weedy rice accessions, 4 rice cultivars, and 2 lines resistant to aryloxyphenoxypropionate (AOPP) herbicides. Quizalofop was applied the 2-leaf stage. Weedy rice control was evaluated at 28 and 22 days after treatment (DAT), respectively for bioassay I and II, using a scale of 0% (no control) to 100% (dead). Results: All weedy rice accessions were susceptible to quizalofop, being controlled 100% with 50 g a.i. ha-1. Rice lines SC 964 and SC 965, resistant to AOPP herbicides, were not injured by quizalofop. Conclusions: quizalofop is an effective tool for weedy rice control in ACCase-resistant rice.

Brazil is one of the largest grain producers in the world, due to its extensive arable land and favorable climate for the cultivation of any species. The production could be higher, but problems such as competition between crops and weeds reduces crop yields. This study aimed to analyze the spatial distribution of weeds, especially milkweed (Sonchus oleraceus), horse weed (Conyza spp.) and ‘maria-mole’ (Senecio brasiliensis) in an area under no-tillage system for two harvests. The work was carried out during the 2013/14 and 2014/15 crop years in an area of 22.5 ha, where soybean is grown in the summer and oat in the winter. The weeds were mapped using a sampling grid of 85 points. The number of plants present in 0.25 m2 was recorded at each sampling point. The data collected in the field composed the information bank and were used for geostatistical analysis and production of maps. Using geostatistical analysis, it was possible to map the horseweed infestation in the studied area for the 2013/14 season. The species ‘maria-mole’ and milkweed did not show spatial dependence. During the 2014/2015 season, because of the management carried out in the off season, none of the studied species showed spatial dependence. RESUMO O Brasil figura como um dos maiores produtores de grãos do mundo em função de suas extensas áreas agricultáveis e do clima favorável ao cultivo de grande número de espécies. A produção poderia ser maior, mas problemas como a competição das culturas com plantas daninhas reduzem a produtividade das culturas. Este trabalho teve por objetivo estudar a distribuição espacial de plantas daninhas em especial serralha (Sonchus oleraceus), buva (Conyza spp.) e maria-mole (Senecio brasiliensis) em área de plantio direto durante duas safras agrícolas. O trabalho foi realizado durante os anos agrícolas de 2013/14 e 2014/15 em uma área de 22,5 ha na qual se cultiva soja no verão e aveia no inverno. Para o mapeamento das plantas daninhas foi utilizada uma grade amostral composta por 85 pontos; em cada ponto amostral foi contabilizado o número de plantas presentes em 0,25 m2. Os dados coletados em campo compuseram o banco de informações e foram utilizados para análise geoestatística e produção dos mapas. Utilizando análise geoestatística foi possível mapear a infestação de buva na área de estudos para a safra 2013/14. As plantas daninhas maria-mole e serralha não apresentaram dependência espacial; na safra 2014/2015, em função do manejo realizado na entressafra, nenhuma espécie estudada apresentou dependência espacial.

Herbicides aminocyclopyrachlor and indaziflam are two new molecules still in the development phase for sugar cane culture in Brazil. Little information on these weed killers is extant for Brazilian conditions. Current research investigated the behavior of aminocyclopyrachlor and indaziflam in soil within tropical conditions. Tests were first conducted to select the most suitable bioindicator species so that the activity of these herbicides could be monitored in the soil. Beetroot and soybean were the most sensitive species to the two herbicides. The persistence of biological activity of aminocyclopyrachlor and indaziflam was assessed by previously selected biomarkers. Aminocyclopyrachlor persisted longer than 150 days. In highly clayey soil the herbicide´s persistence was lower than in clayey sandy texture, probably due to higher contents of clay and organic carbon. Indaziflam was highly persistent in the soils under analysis. In fact, there was complete inhibition of the development of biomarkers even after 150 days of application. Aminocyclopyrachlor had a greater potential for contamination of surface water than indaziflam when leaching is taken into account. Rainfall affects herbicide leaching. Aminocyclopyrachlor increases mobility when applied to clayey sandy textured soil, whereas there was no difference between contrasting textures soils in the case of indaziflam. Applying aminocyclopyrachlor and indaziflam directly into the soil proved to be efficient in the control of Ipomoea grandifolia and Euphorbia heterophylla.When the herbicides are applied on a straw layer of 10 ton ha-1cane sugar, rainfall is essential to promote percolation of the herbicides into the soil and provide effective weed control. Os herbicidas aminocyclopyrachlor e indaziflam são duas novas moléculas que se encontram em fase de desenvolvimento para a cultura da cana-de-açúcar, no Brasil. Para as condições brasileiras são escassas as informações a respeito destes herbicidas. Com isso, o desenvolvimento deste trabalho teve como objetivo obter informações a respeito do comportamento do aminocyclopyrachlor e indaziflam no solo, em condições tropicais. Inicialmente, foram realizados ensaios para selecionar a espécie bioindicadora mais adequada para monitorar a atividade desses herbicidas no solo. As espécies mais sensíveis para ambos os herbicidas foram beterraba e soja. Em seguida, foi avaliada a persistência da atividade biológica do aminocyclopyrachlor e indaziflam por meio dos bioindicadores selecionados previamente. A persistência do aminocyclopyrachlor foi superior a 150 dias. No solo de textura muito argilosa verificou-se menor persistência deste herbicida comparado ao solo de textura franco argilo arenosa, provavelmente pelos maiores conteúdos de argila e carbono orgânico. O indaziflam mostrou-se altamente persistente nos solos estudados, sendo que, mesmo após 150 dias de sua aplicação, verificou-se inibição total do desenvolvimento dos bioindicadores. Quanto à lixiviação, verificou-se que o aminocyclopyrachlor possui maior potencial de contaminação de águas superficiais que o indaziflam. As precipitações possuem capacidade de interferir na lixiviação dos herbicidas. O aminocyclopyrachlor tem sua mobilidade aumentada quando aplicado em solo de textura franco argilo arenosa, já para o indaziflam não se observou diferença entre os solos com texturas contrastantes. A aplicação de aminocyclopyrachlor e indaziflam diretamente no solo mostrou-se eficiente no controle de Ipomoea grandifolia e Euphorbia heterophylla. Já quando a aplicação é realizada sobre camada de palha de cana-de-açúcar de 10 ton ha-1é essencial que ocorra precipitação para promover a percolação destes herbicidas para o solo e proporcionar o controleeficiente das plantas daninhas. ix, 125 f
