4. Energy Harvesting Over Fiber From Amplified Spontaneous Emission in Optical Sensing and Communication Systems

Abstract

Optical sensing and communication systems are essential for various applications in terrestrial, space, and submarine environments. However, integrating these systems poses several challenges, especially in terms of energy sustainability and management. In this work, we report on energy harvesting over fiber (EHoF) using amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) from erbium-doped fiber amplifiers (EDFAs). We demonstrate that the transmitted ASE power that is wasted in fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensors and the ASE noise that is filtered out in optical communication systems can be harnessed for EHoF. We present a multi-functional system that includes EHoF, FBG-based sensing, fiber-optic communication, and underwater optical wireless communication (UOWC), and discuss the performance metrics of the different modules. This multi-functional system successfully harvests 6.12 mW of electrical power while enabling up to 2.5 Gbps of hybrid optical fiber and UOWC data communication with simultaneous temperature sensing using FBG in an underwater environment.

Abstract

This community service aims to improve the professional competence of Muhammadiyah teachers through mentoring lesson study with the stages of plan, do, and see. This competency improvement is needed because the quality of teachers in Palembang, especially Muhammadiyah teachers, still needs to be considered higher due to the lack of training to improve teacher competence. The newly formed Muhammadiyah Teacher Forum can be a place to make this happen. This community service activity is carried out offline and online, namely offline during the debriefing of lesson study materials and online during monitoring and discussion of the implementation of activities. The results of community service activities based on monitoring results found problems at each stage of lesson study (plan, do, see) that have been given solutions. Based on the results of the evaluation, the problems experienced by teachers are becoming less and less and Muhammadiyah teachers in the city of Palembang routinely conduct lesson study discussions through the Muhammadiyah teacher forum.

6. The Vulnerability Model of Water Resources Management in Forest Edge Communities in Sumedang Regency

Abstract

Purpose: This study aims to explain the vulnerability of institutional management practices of water resources, agent practices, and system reproduction that can potentially cause social vulnerability in society. Theoretical reference: Structuration theory was chosen because this theory can explain structural or institutional vulnerability seen from practices in water resources management. Method: A qualitative approach using the participatory rural appraisal (PRA) method was employed to map the social vulnerability of management structures. NVivo mind map analysis and geographic information system analysis were used to strengthen the relationship between social practices and vulnerability information through drought maps. Results and Conclusion: The results of the study show that resource management is vulnerable to maintaining old patterns or habits because agents are unable to break through institutional systems and structures do not have authority, and have no bargaining position. Reproduction of social systems takes place in accordance with ongoing social structures that traverse space and time. The forestry organization KPH Sumedang has the authority to manage water resources around the forestry area. Vulnerability becomes a phenomenon of water user communities on the forest's edge. Discursive and recursive practices of actors/agents perpetuate the social structure of water users, such as the potential vulnerability of the social structure of water user communities and practices that encourage social vulnerability. Implications of research: This study has shed light on the community vulnerability related to the management of water resources by the forest edge communities. In addition, this study has given insight into the vulnerability of the social structure that can be seen from the practices of water users in village communities on the edge of the forest. Abstract

Objective: This research aims to to assess the viability of Sukapura handwritten batik in the global market and its potential contribution to a sustainable economy in Sukapura Village and Janggala Village, located in Sukaraja District, Tasikmalaya Regency. Method: A qualitative case study approach was employed, utilizing the Miles-Huberman analysis model. This methodology was chosen to ensure the acquisition of valid and reliable results. Results: Sukapura's handwritten batik possesses the necessary potential to thrive amidst the challenges posed by global competition. Furthermore, it has the capacity to contribute to the development of a sustainable economy. However, for this potential to be fully realized, it is imperative that the government extends support in terms of human resource development, as well as marketing and promotion through online channels. Conclusion: The continued existence of Sukapura batik hinges upon the proactive involvement of the government and policy makers. It is crucial that they devise and implement strategies that enhance promotion and marketing efforts, particularly targeting the younger generation. By attracting and engaging the youth, Sukapura Village and Janggala Village can secure a new generation of batik makers, ensuring the longevity and prosperity of this traditional craft in Sukaraja District, Tasikmalaya Regency.
