The paper investigates the relationship between energy consumption, financial development (FD), economic growth, industrialization and urbanization in the case of South Africa for the period of 1970-2014. The study employs Johansen co-integration test and vector error correction model with granger causality test as estimation techniques. The results confirm that there is a long-run equilibrium relationship between these variables in case of South Africa. More so, urbanization, FD, and industrialization are positively correlated to the energy consumption in the long run. The results obtained also shows the long run bi-directional causality between industrialization and energy utilization, FD and energy consumption and also FD and industrialization.

The primary objective of this study is to determine the predictive effect of technology use durations of 5-6 year-old children on their social skill levels and social status. In this study, children's technology usage is restricted to the use of television, portable computers, tablets and smartphones. The sample group of the study consisted of 162 children aged 5 and 6 years old who are actively enrolled in seven kindergartens. The data required for the study were obtained from children, parents and teachers. The 'Determination of Use of Technology by Children-Parent Form', the 'Social Skills Evaluation Scale', 'The Picture Sociometry Scale' and 'The Personal Information Form' were used. The results revealed that the use of mobile technologies had no predictive effect on the social skill level, whereas, some mobile devices have predictive effects on the social preference and social impact.

The purpose of the study is to compare environmental attitudes and experiences of five-year-old children receiving preschool education in the village and city centre. The first group comprised 54 five-year-old children who received preschool education and attended kindergartens of two primary schools in the Karateke and Kocaba villages of Honaz district in Denizli province, Turkey. The second sample group comprised 50 children receiving education in an independent kindergarten in Merkezefendi district of Denizli province. As data collection tools, Attitude towards Environment Scale and questionnaire of Environmental Experience were used in the study. According to results, environmental attitudes of preschool children living in the village showed a significant difference in favour of children living in the city centre. Examining in terms of gender, it was observed that environmental attitudes of children in both groups did not show a significant difference based on gender.

The aim of this study was to examine the role of parent perfectionism on predicting anxiety level of 5 and 6 years old preschool children. The data were collecded with Preschool Anxiety Scale Parent Form and Multi-dimensional Perfectionism Scale. The study was carried out with parents of 379 5 and 6 years old preschool children in Denizli. The data were analyzed with correlation, multiple and stepwise regression analyses statistical techniques.The results indicated that the social-oriented perfectionism level of mothers and fathers were the meaningful predictor of perceived anxiety level of children. On the other hand, it was found that self-oriented and other-oriented perfectionism levels of parents were not the meaningful predictors of perceived anxiety in children. In the study, implications of the findings were discussed and suggestions were given for educators, researchers and parents.

BACKGROUND Lipoxins could be potential modulators of inflammation in the lungs. To our knowledge, the role of exhaled breath condensate (EBC) lipoxin A4 (LXA4) in asthmatic children with exercise-induced bronchoconstriction (EIB) has not been investigated. OBJECTIVE The aim of our study was to determine the involvement of EBC LXA4 in EIB. METHODS Forty-five patients aged between 5 and 17 years were included in the study. Patients were divided into 2 groups: asthmatic children with a positive response to exercise (n = 17) and asthmatic children with a negative response to exercise (n = 28). Levels of LXA4 were determined in EBC before and immediately after the exercise challenge using ELISA. RESULTS EBC LXA4 levels were significantly increased immediately after exercise in asthmatic children with a positive response to the exercise challenge (P = .05). No significant differences were observed in children with a negative response to exercise (P > .05). There was an inverse correlation between LXA4 levels and the percent degree of reduction in forced expiratory volume in the first second (FEV1%) postexercise in children with a positive exercise challenge (P = .05, r = -0.50). No significant differences were observed in LXA4 levels between atopic and nonatopic asthmatics (P > .05, Mann-Whitney U test). CONCLUSIONS Levels of EBC LXA4 increased immediately after exercise in asthmatic children with a positive exercise challenge response. We hypothesize that airway LXA4 levels increase to compensate bronchoconstriction and suppress acute inflammation, and that spontaneous bronchodilatation after EIB may be due to LXA4.

BACKGROUND Forced expiratory flow between 25% and 75% of vital capacity (FEF25-75%), a spirometric measure of small airways, may predict the presence of airway responsiveness both in asthmatics and in allergic rhinitis (AR). We aimed to search the correlation between FEF25-75% and standard measures of spirometry (forced expiratory volume in the first second [FEV1%] and FEV1/FVC [forced vital capacity]) in different clinical conditions, that is in children with asthma, in children with asthma and AR, in children with AR and in healthy children. METHODS Children with asthma (N.=116), asthma plus AR (N.=25), AR (N.=75) and healthy controls (N.=52) were evaluated. Clinical examinations, spirometry and bronchodilation tests were performed. The purpose of this study was to determine the attitudes of mouthguard users in the 2009 International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) Word U18 Championship Div. III Group B Turkey. The participants’ appreciation in the use of protective devices, such as mouthguards, during sport activities was also evaluated. In this study a 10-item questionnaire was distributed to 82 athletes of ice hokey in 2009 IIHF Word U18 Championship. The Championship composed of 4 national teams [Bulgaria (Bul), Ireland (Irl), Iceland (Isl) and Turkey (Tur)]. Of all players were males and there average ages were Bul. 16.55, Irl. 16.2, Isl. 17.0, Tur. 17.3 . The result of questionnaires indicated that none of the athletes used mouthguards while participating in sports. The use of mouthguards is rare in sports, because all of athletes wear helmets and face masks associated with their helmets. IIHF rules required that athletes, who fewer than 18 years, should wear face masks during sport activities, but not mandatory of wearing mouth guards. The same 10-item questionnaire was distributed to 16 athletes of national ice hokey team of Turkey. Athletes, who are older than 18 years, usually wear not face masks but wear helmets and moutguards. There sportsmen’s 25 % used mouthguards while participating in sports, but this number is not enough. Doctors and dentists need to recommend a more intensive education of athletes in sports medicine and sports dentistry.

The deficiency of aspartoacylase (ASPA), resulting in the accumulation of N-acetyl aspartic acid (NAA) in the brain, plays an important role in the pathogenesis of the disease. The cardinal features of this neurodegenerative disease are macrocephaly, mental retardation, and hypotonia. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the brain generally shows diffuse white matter degeneration and also elevated excretion of urinary NAA is usually seen. A large number of mutations were identified to date. We report here a 9 months old girl with Canavan Disease and a homozygous c.79GA mutation in the ASPA gene, detected for the first time in Turkish population.

Observations based on CTD, ADCP and satellite infrared measurements were carried out in the spring seasons of 1993 and 1994 in the framework of CoMSBlack and NATO TU-Black Sea international programs, to describe the western Black Sea circulation. In this paper, we present comparisons of satellite images with the measured currents and geostrophic flow fields in the upper ocean, with a purpose of describing the mese-scale circulation features. Some statistical and energetic parameters were also analyzed to compare circulation patterns for these two years.
