Abstract: One-pot synthesis of novel phosphoramidates with porphine and nitrogenous drug was accomplished. In the absence of light, MTT test showed that they killed the BEL-7402 liver cancer cells effectively in vitro. The cell viability studied on normal liver and cancer cells showed that porphine phosphoramidates selectively kill the cancer cells, which was in sharp contrast with the non-porphine containing compound 4-formylphenyl N,N-bis(2-chloroethyl)-phosphoramidate. These results, coupled with the cell uptake test showing that they could differentiate the tumor cells from the normal cells by their selective accumulation in cancer cells, gave strong support to the notion that the introduction of porphine moiety in these molecules was responsible for the effectiveness and cell differentiability of these porphine phosphoramidates. 2,3-Dibromo-5,10,15,20-tetraarylporphyrins were prepared from easily available 5,10,15,20-tetraarylchlorins in one flask and two steps, namely regioselective dibromination and subsequent oxidation. Abstract: Three types of chitosan-supported metallotetraphenylporphyrins were prepared at room temperature by loading iron, cobalt and manganese tetraphenylporphyrins (TPP) onto chitosan. These were employed as catalysts for the aerobic oxidation of cyclohexane in the absence of additives and solvents. Three chitosan-supported and three simple metallotetraphenylporphyrins (MTPPs) showed different catalytic activity for the oxidation of cyclohexane. Under optimum reaction conditions of 418K and 0.8MPa, both the cobalt TPP and the corresponding chitosan-supported complex showed the highest catalytic activity, but lower ketone and alcohol selectivity. The reverse situation was observed for the iron TPP and the corresponding chitosan-supported complex. For cyclohexane oxidation, there was a difference in catalytic activity and ketone and alcohol selectivity between the simple MTTPs or the corresponding chitosan-supported complexes. These differences in catalysis probably result from two factors: the potential for O2 activation of the different bivalent metal ions, which affects the activity of the corresponding chitosan-supported MTPPs and chitosan assistance of the MTPP catalysis. Abstract: Catalysis of simple cobalt tetraphenylporphyrin for selective liquid phase oxidation of toluene with air is first reported. By the catalysis of simple cobalt tetraphenylporphyrin, the selective oxidation of toluene with air in the absence of any solvents or promoters will produce benzaldehyde and benzyl alcohol. Compared with the present synthetic method of benzaldehyde and benzyl alcohol by the chlorination of toluene followed by hydrolysis, which has been used in the world industry, the new method has the advantage of friendly environmental effects. The researchers found that the reaction time, temperature, air pressure, the amount of catalyst and the flow rates of air influenced the toluene conversion and the selectivity of benzaldehyde and benzyl alcohol. By the use of 3.2×10-5M cobalt tetraphenylporphyrin as catalyst, toluene oxidation with air under the optimum conditions of 160°C and 0.8MPa and 0.04m3/h airflow produced benzaldehyde and benzyl alcohol at 60% selectivity and 8.9% conversion of toluene. The mole turnover numbers of the catalyst was about 25,000. A possible mechanism is also suggested. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Fifteen new chloroalkyl piperazine and nitrogen mustard porphyrins have been synthesized by the direct condensation of chloroalkyl piperazine, nitrogen mustard benzaldehyde, and pyrrole. Each porphyrin bears 1–4 chloroalkyl piperazine or nitrogen mustard moieties, which have been used as drugs. The Lindsey method was modified to synthesize chloroalkyl piperazine and nitrogen mustard porphyrins. To successfully synthesize chloroalkyl piperazine and nitrogen mustard porphyrins, catalyst acidity was proved to be the key factor, while the ratio of pyrrole to aldehyde had great influence on product yield. The synthetic chloroalkyl piperazine and nitrogen mustard porphyrins were characterized by elementary analysis, MS, 1H NMR, IR, and UV–vis. Their anticancer activity to bel-7404 liver cancer cells was tested by the MTT assay. Most of the synthetic porphyrins had good anticancer activity toward bel-7404 liver cancer cells in the absence of light. These compounds might be potential anticancer medicines. The chitosan-supported iron(III) tetraphenylporphyrin was prepared and characterized structurally, and its ability to catalyse oxidation of cyclohexane into cyclohexanone and cyclohexanol with air in absence of any reductants and solvents was studied. The research results showed that the amino groups of the chitosan coordinated axially with the iron atoms of chloro[tetraphenylporphinatoiron(III)] to form chitosan-supported ironporphyrin, which has better catalytic power for cyclohexane oxidation with air than the corresponding unsupported ironporphyrin. Under reaction conditions of 418 K and 0.8 MPa, the cyclohexane oxidation catalyzed by chitosan-supported iron(III) tetraphenylporphyrin had 1.40×105 catalyst mole turnover (based on the iron atom), 10.48% cyclohexane conversion and the 79.20% cyclohexanone and cyclohexanol selectivity, respectively. The turnover in cyclohexane oxidation catalyzed by the supported ironporphyrin is about 22 times bigger than that by unsupported ironporphyrin and the conversion is about double. The values are also higher than 3.9% conversion and 78% selectivity catalyzed by soluble cobalt catalyst used in industry at present. This paper has also investigated the influences of reaction time, temperature and pressure on the catalyst turnover, cyclohexane conversion and ratio of cyclohexanol to cyclohexanone in the cyclohexane oxidation catalyzed by the chitosan-supported iron(III) tetraphenylporphyrin. Simple iron, manganese and cobalt tetraphenylporphyrins were synthesized and used to catalyze cyclohexane oxidation with air in the absence of additives and solvents. These simple metalloporphyrins were first found to be the very effective catalysts for cyclohexane oxidation with air when the reaction temperature was higher than 100 °C and pressure was greater than 0.4 MPa. The research results showed that the metalloporphyrins type, temperature, pressure and catalyst concentration influenced the yields and conversion of cyclohexane oxidation with air. The catalytic activity of cobalt porphyrins was superior to that of iron and manganese porphyrins. For cyclohexane oxidation catalyzed by simple cobalt tetrapherylporphyrin, the conversion of cyclohexane was up to 16.2%, general yields of cyclohexanol and cyclohexanone was 82%, and the mole turnover numbers of the catalyst reached 400,000 under the optimum conditions of 0.6 MPa and 140 °C and 4 ppm cobalt porphyrin. We report the use of simple μ-oxo-bis[tetraphenylporphinatoiron(III)] ([TPPFeIII]2O) as a catalyst for the selective oxidation of cyclohexane into cyclohexanone and cylcohexanol with air. This is the first time that [TPPFeIII]2O has been used as a catalyst for the aerobic liquid phase oxidation of cyclohexane in absence of any cocatalyst or coreductants. The oxidation of cyclohexane catalyzed by a very small amount of [TPPFeIII]2O gave 90% selectivity to cyclohexanol and cyclohexanone at 12.55% yield and catalyst turnover numbers of 90,000 (based on the metal) under the conditions of 398 K and 0.6 MPa. We showed that the reaction yields and the turnover numbers of the catalyst changed with reaction temperature, pressure and the amount of catalyst. In contrast with the corresponding monoironporphyrin, chloro[tetraphenylporphinatoiron(III)] (TPPFeIIICl), the oxidation of cyclohexane catalyzed by (TPPFeIII)2O with air had higher yields and greater turnovers. Fourteen μ-oxo-bisironporphyrins and nine μ-oxo-bismanganeseporphyrins were synthesized, and their selective catalysis for the oxidation of the secondary and tertiary carbon–hydrogen bonds of 2-methylbutane with PhIO were also studied. The ratio of the relative reaction selectivity of tertiary carbon–hydrogen bonds to secondary carbon–hydrogen bonds was 3:1 when ironporphyrins were used as catalysts, and 4:1 when manganeseporphyrins were used as catalysts. The research showed that the substituents on the porphyrin rings influenced the catalytic selectivity of metalloporphyrins for the oxidation of the secondary and tertiary carbon–hydrogen bonds as well as the reaction rate. Whether ironporphyrins or manganeseporphyrins, the electron-attracting groups on porphyrin rings increased the catalytic selectivity of metalloporphyrins for the tertiary carbon–hydrogen bonds and the reaction rates, however, the electron-releasing groups increased the catalytic selectivity of metalloporphyrins for secondary carbon–hydrogen bonds, but reduced the reaction rates. Abstract: Quantitative structure–activity relationship (QSAR) studies were performed on the ironporphyrin-catalyzed biomimetic oxidation of cyclohexane. Through quantum chemical calculations, the molecular structures of nine different ironporphyrin catalysts have been optimized and their respective quantum chemical descriptors (FMO energies E HOMO, E LUMO, FMO energy gap DEHL, partition coefficient log P) have been obtained. The ironporphyrin-catalyzed cyclohexane hydroxylation with PhIO was chosen as the model reaction. The yield of cyclohexanol (yield (%)) and the reaction rate constant (lg k) were obtained experimentally, and the reaction kinetics was studied accordingly. 2D-QSAR studies for ironporphyrin catalysts were performed by using multiple linear regression (MLR) analysis. From the established QSAR model equations of lg k, yield (%) and the quantum chemical descriptors (lg k =−1.433+0.009log P −0.406E LUMO-b R =0.968 and yield (%)=9.556+0.500log P −8.997E LUMO-b R =0.821), we conclude that it is the frontier molecular orbital (FMO) energy level E LUMO-b which has the most significant effect on the catalytic activity of the ironporphyrins. Further molecular graphics studies and Mulliken''s electron population analysis indicated that the energy level of E LUMO-b can be altered by introducing peripheral substituting groups on the meso-phenyl ring. Since the electron withdrawing substituents could lower E LUMO-b and disperse the electron density of around the centro-metal core of porphyrin better, they can facilitate ironporphyrin''s binding with the oxidant and, consequently increase the catalytic activity of ironporphyrin. We also notice that the partition coefficient log P of ironporphyrin molecule affects the reaction rate and the yield of the cyclohexane hydroxylation reaction as well. Our study may be beneficial for future catalyst design for the metalloporphyrin-catalyzed hydrocarbon oxidations. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

The fluorescence energy transfer between anthracene (donor) and 5-p-[[4-(10′15′20′-triphenyl-5′-porphinato) phenyloxyl]-1-butyloxyl] phenyl-10,15,20-triphenyl-porphyrin (DTPP as acceptor) and an optical fiber sensor for the determination of picric acid based on this theory were studied. Because the emission spectrum of anthracene was largely overlapped with the absorption spectrum of the DTPP, the phenomenon of energy transfer occurred when anthracene and DTPP were immobilized in a PVC membrane. The membrane based on anthracene and DTPP contacting with picric acid showed much stronger fluorescence quenching comparing to membranes containing only anthracene or DTPP. The use of DTPP as acceptor was compared with 5,10,15,20-tetraphenylporphyrin (TPP). Both porphyrin compounds can be used as the acceptor, with DTPP clearly preferred. Under optimum conditions, picric acid in a sample solution can be determined from 3.0×10−7 to 2.0×10−3 mol l−1 with a detection limit of 1.5×10−7 mol l−1. The proposed optical fiber sensor shows satisfactory characteristics including good reproducibility, reversibility and selectivity as well as a short response time. The synthesis of a dimer of porphyrin linked by flexible alkoxyl chains and its application as neutral ionophore for a berberine-sensitive potentiometric sensor were described. The porphyrin dimer based sensor shows a linear response towards berberine in the range 1.2 × 10[SUP-7] -5.0 × 10[SUP-3] mol L[SUP-1], with a pH range from 3.7 to 11.2, a fast response time of 10s and a slope of 65.5 ± 2.5mV/dec. The proposed electrode exhibits different selectivity behavior compared with the electrode based on classical cation exchanger. As an electroactive material, porphyrin dimer shows better potentiometric response characteristics comparing to porphyrin monomer or metalloporphyrin. The effects of solvent mediator have been studied and the experimental conditions optimized. The interaction between BE[SUP+] and porphyrin dimer was investigated using UV-VIS spectrophotometry. An efficient method for the α-C-H acryloyloxylation of ketones with α,β-unsaturated carboxylic acids was developed, using copper(I) as a catalyst. The most concise approach to form α-acryloyloxy ketones is through direct oxidative coupling at the α-C(sp3)-H position of ketones. This method gives the products in high yields, and has a wide substrate scope in terms of both ketones and unsaturated carboxylic acids. The first facile one-pot synthesis of sulfone-containing oxindoles with easily accessible disulfides as the sulfonylating precursors is described. This reaction occurs smoothly under transition metal-free conditions and shows excellent functional group tolerance, allowing the facile and efficient green synthesis of various sulfone-containing oxindoles in aqueous solution. A novel potassium tert-butoxide-mediated amine acyl exchange of N,N-disubstituted formamides with aromatic carbonyl derivatives in a sequential CN bond cleavage/formation process leading to aromatic amides is described. This methodology tolerates a wide range of aromatic carbonyl compounds, including aromatic aldehydes, acyl chlorides, unactivated esters, and acid anhydrides. The usage of inexpensive and readily available reagents, broad substrate scope, and the simple, mild (50 °C) and transition metal-free conditions make this protocol very practical. The solvent-free catalytic oxidation of toluene using molecular oxygen over metalloporphyrin/ N-hydroxyphthalimide (NHPI)/cetyl trimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB) has been developed. The results showed that the type of metalloporphyrin used, catalyst loading, reaction temperature, and the flow rate of oxygen all influenced the conversion of toluene and the selectivities of the products. Furthermore, a co-catalysis was observed between metalloporphyrin, NHPI, and CTAB. The toluene conversion was significantly improved from 10.74 to 40.95 mol% after adding CTAB to the reaction mixture. Abstract: The remarkable effect of simple aliphatic alcohols on the controlled oxidation of toluene with molecular oxygen over [5,10,15,20-tetrakis(p-chlorophenyl)porphinato]manganese fluoride (T(p-Cl)PPMnF) and N-hydroxyphthalimide (NHPI) was reported. The influences of reaction conditions such as the concentration and structure of alcohols, temperature and catalyst concentration on the promotion effect were also studied. UV–vis spectra were used to investigate the possible structure of reaction intermediate derived from the catalyst (T(p-Cl)PP)MnF in the toluene oxidation systems in the presence of methanol. The results showed that the added methanol interacted with catalyst (T(p-Cl)PP)MnF to form the coordination compound [(T(p-Cl)PP)MnIII(ROH)2]+, which subsequently was transformed into a high valent manganese-oxo radical cation intermediate [(T(p-Cl)PP)MnIV(O)(CH3OH)]+ xidation systems. We deduce that the formation of [(T(p-Cl)PP)MnIV(O)(CH3OH)]+ higher reactivity toward toluene may be responsible for the better results observed. On the basis of the results obtained, a possible mechanism of the controlled oxidation of toluene with dioxygen over (T(p-Cl)PP)MnF/NHPI in the presence of the aliphatic alcohols was proposed. The regioselective hydroxylation of the aromatic C-H bond on a series of naphthalenes with different β-substituent R (R = H, Me, Et, i-Pr, OMe, COOH, Br, etc.) was studied, and the substituent effect on the regioselectivity was investigated. The electron-donating substituent afforded the aromatic C-H bond hydroxylation at the 1α position with more than 80% selectivity, while the electron-withdrawing substituent afforded the aromatic C-H bond hydroxylation at the 4α position with more than 60% selectivity of β-substituted naphthalene hydroxylated with metachloroperbenzoic acid catalyzed by tetrakis(pentafluorophenyl)porphyrin manganese(III) chloride. The research showed that the steric and electronic effects of the substituent appeared to play a significant role in determining the regioselectivity, and the electronic effect was of more importance than the steric effect of the substituent in the current situation. Abstract: In this study, cobalt tetraphenylporphyrin was immobilized through amide bond on organosilicon microsphere mixed with ceria. The catalysts were characterized and the catalytic performance was investigated. The results show that the catalysts are nanoparticles with average sizes of 30nm and organosilicon microsphere is mixed with ceria. In addition, the catalysts exhibit excellent catalytic performance for selective oxidation of cyclohexane by molecular oxygen without solvent in a sealed autoclave reactor, due to the cooperative effect among the metalloporphyrin, organosilicon microsphere and ceria. The conversion of cyclohexane and the selectivity of cyclohexanol+cyclohexanone reached 14.21% and 54.6%, respectively. After repeated reuse, the conversion of cyclohexane and the selectivity of cyclohexanol+cyclohexanone were still kept at about 13.1% and 61.9%, respectively. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: In(OTf)3 was found to be an effective catalyst for the cyclization of ω-aryl-1-alkenes to form tetralin and chromane derivatives. Compared with the known Ru-catalyzed version, the In-catalyzed intramolecular cyclization was found to give higher yields and cleaner reactions in some cases. Six tetraphenylporphyrins (TRPPH2) with different horizontal substituents R (R = H, CH3, OH, F, Cl, Br) were synthesized, and the organic light-emitting diode (OLED) devices with a general configuration of ITO/TPD/Alq3:2%TRPPH2/Alq3/Al were prepared. The substituted TRPPH2 was used as the host dopant, 4,4-bis-(m-tolyphenylamino)biphenyl (TPD) was used as a hole-transporting material, and aluminum tris(8-quinolinolato) (Alq3) was used as an electron-transporting material. The electroluminescent (EL) properties of these devices were studied to understand the light emitting properties of the substituted TRPPH2. Previous studies have found that the color emitted by the devices was dependent on the TRPPH2 dye concentration. The electronic effect of the horizontal substituents R of TRPPH2 influenced the turn-on voltage, brightness, and power efficiency of the devices. Also, the electroluminescence performance of the porphyrin-doped OLED devices depended on the effectual overlaps between the emission of electron-transporting material and the absorption of the dopants. This means that it is possible to evaluate the electroluminescence performance of the porphyrin-doped OLED devices based on the emission of electron-transporting material and the absorption of the dopants. Copper porphyrin-catalyzed Glaser–Hay-type couplings of terminal alkynes generating 1,3-diynes are described. This reaction features high TON (up to 950) and is complete in an hour, providing a facile, clean, and efficient protocol to access various 1,3-diynes including those with functional groups under mild reaction conditions. Abstract: A mild, selective, and efficient protocol for the synthesis of γ-aminoalkyl butenolides via the oxidative coupling between tertiary amines and siloxyfurans catalyzed by simple copper salts was developed. Compared with the reported method, our method employs copper catalyst instead of the expensive rhodium catalyst. Besides TBHP, both O2 and H2O2 can also be utilized as oxidant to effect the coupling. Abstract: The aerobic liquid-phase oxidation of p-xylene (PX) over metalloporphyrin and Co(OAc)2 was studied, and the co-catalysis between metalloporphyrin and Co(OAc)2 for the oxidation of PX was discovered for the first time. The results showed that both the PX conversion and terephthalic acid yield could be increased significantly despite the fact that only a minute amount of metalloporphyrin was added to the reaction mixture in addition to the Co(OAc)2 catalyst. The effects of the structure of metalloporphyrin and reaction conditions such as temperature, air pressure and catalyst concentration on the overall reaction performance were also studied. A possible mechanism for the observed synergy between metalloporphyrin and Co(OAc)2 as co-catalysts for the aerobic liquid-phase oxidation of PX was proposed based on some experimental observations. The results suggested that the PX oxidation was improved because of the acceleration of the chain initiation of PX oxidation by metalloporphyrin, and the acceleration of the chain initiation itself was due to the ease of peroxide formation over metalloporphyrin. Abstract: The selective catalysis of manganeseporphyrins for the aerobic oxidation of the different Cf methyl cyclohexane was reported. The effects of the peripheral substituents of metalloporphyrins and the reaction conditions on the catalytic selectivity were also investigated. It was found that manganeseporphyrins are effective catalysts for the aerobic oxidation of Cf methyl cyclohexane. Abstract: Treatment of zinc(II) 5,15-diphenylporphyrin or free-base 5,15-diphenylporphyrin with 1.1eq. of fluoroalkyl iodides (RfI) in the presence of 1.1eq. Na2S2O4 in a mixture solvent of DMSO/THF at 45°C for 1–2h gave 2-fluoroalkyl-5,15-diphenylporphyrin and 5-fluoroalkyl-10,20-diphenylporphyrin in a ratio from 1/3 to 1/8 in almost 50% total yields.
