Abstract

In this paper, we present a general framework of designing geometrically shaped constellations for short-packet visible light communications with a peak- and an average-intensity constraints. By leveraging tools from large deviation theory, we first characterize the second-order asymptotics of the optimal constellation shaping region under aforementioned intensity constraints, which serves as a good performance measure for the best geometric shaping in finite blocklength. To further incorporate a sufficiently large coding gain and a nearly-maximum shaping gain, we construct multidimensional constellations by the nested structure of Construction B lattices, where the constellation shaping is implemented by controlling the boundary of the embedded sublattice, i.e., a strategy called coarsely shaping and finely coding. Fast algorithms for constellation mapping and demodulation are presented as well. As an illustrative example, we present an energy-efficient $24$-dimensional constellation design based on the Leech lattice, whose superiority over existing constellation designs is verified by numerical results.

2. Capacity Results for Multiple-Input Multiple-Output Optical Wireless Communication With Per-Antenna Intensity Constraints

Abstract

In this paper, we investigate the capacity of a multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) optical intensity channel (OIC) under per-antenna peak- and average-intensity constraints. We first consider the case where the average intensities of input are required to be equal to preassigned constants due to the requirement of illumination quality and color temperature. When the channel graph of the MIMO OIC is strongly connected, we prove that the strongest eigen-subchannel must have positive channel gains, which simplifies the capacity analysis. Then we derive various capacity bounds by utilizing linear precoding, generalized entropy power inequality, and QR decomposition, etc. These bounds are numerically verified to approach the capacity in the low or high signal-to-noise ratio regime. Specifically, when the channel rank is one less than the number of transmit antennas, we derive an equivalent capacity expression from the perspective of convex geometry, and new lower bounds are derived based on this equivalent expression. Finally, the developed results are extended to the more general case where the average intensities of input are required to be no larger than preassigned constants.

Abstract

As a novel mode of indoor wireless communication, visible light communication (VLC) should consider the illumination functions besides the primary communication function. Dimming control is one of the most crucial illumination functions for VLC systems. However, the transmission efficiency of most proposed dimming control schemes changes as the dimming factor changes. A block coding-based dimming control scheme has been proposed for constant transmission efficiency VLC systems, but there is still room for improvement in dimming range and error performance. In this paper, we propose a dimming control scheme based on extensional constant weight codeword sets to achieve constant transmission efficiency. Meanwhile, we also provide a low implementation complexity decoding algorithm for the scheme. Finally, comparisons show that the proposed scheme can provide a wider dimming range and better error performance. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Objective: To investigate the clinicopathological characteristics, diagnosis, and treatment of primary seminal vesicle adenocarcinoma (SVAC)., Methods: We analyzed the clinical data and clinicopathological characteristics of 4 cases of primary SVAC treated in the Department of Urology of the Second Hospital of Tianjin Medical University and reviewed relevant literature., Results: All the 4 patients were treated by open radical resection of the seminal vesicle and prostate and pathologically diagnosed with SVAC. Preoperative prostatic biopsy had shown 1 of the cases to be negative, while preoperative CT and transrectal ultrasound had revealed a huge pelvic cystic neoplasm in another patient. Immunohistochemistry manifested that the 4 cases were all negative for prostate-specific antigen (PSA), prostatic acid phosphatase (PAP), and cytokeratin 20 (CK20), but positive for cancer antigen 125 (CA125) and CK7. All the patients recovered smoothly after surgery and experienced no recurrence or metastasis during 154, 41, 20, and 12 months of follow-up., Conclusions: Primary seminal vesicle carcinoma is extremely rare and presents in an advanced stage. Immunohistochemistry plays a valuable role in its differential diagnosis. Various combinations of radical surgery, radiotherapy, androgen-deprivation therapy, and chemotherapy are recommended for the treatment of the disease.
