Cemented high-concentration backfill (CHB) is an indispensable solution for mitigating risks associated with underground mining voids and surface tailings ponds. The accurate prediction of pressure drop of CHB in pipe flow is crucial for the design of backfilling systems. In this study, full factorial loop tests were conducted to obtain observed pressure drop data and rheological parameters of CHB, while considering the variables of binder content, solid fraction, and flow velocity. The rheometer method was also utilized to acquire the rheological parameters of CHB for comparison. Three analytical models and one numerical simulation method, which are considered highly accurate in the literature, were employed to predict the pressure drop of CHB in pipe flow. The findings indicate that the Buckingham model and the Darby–Melson model produce identical results as they are fundamentally equivalent. The Swamee–Aggarwal model and the single-phase flow simulation employ a similar mechanism as the Buckingham model, albeit with minor variations in mathematical treatment. The rheological parameters of CHB obtained through the rheometer method are considerably greater than those acquired by the loop test method, leading to significantly higher predicted pressure drop values from both the three analytical models and single-phase flow simulation when compared to the measured values. Whereas the mean deviation of the three analytical models is within 6.5% when employing rheological parameters of CHB determined by the loop test, with the Swamee–Aggarwal model being the most accurate, the mean error of single-phase flow simulation remains within 10%. It is suggested that the rheological parameters of CHB be determined through small-diameter loop testing. The Buckingham model and single-phase flow simulation are subsequently recommended for predicting pressure drop in industrial straight horizontal pipelines and complex piping systems, respectively. Pharmacogenomics has been widely used to study the very important pharmacogenetic (VIP) variants among different populations. However, there is little pharmacogenomic information about the Chinese Hui population. Our research aimed to reveal the outstandingly different loci in the Hui population, and provide a theoretical foundation for personalized drug use in the Hui population, so as to facilitate more effective treatment of diseases. This study genotyped 53 VIP variants of 26 genes in 200 independent Hui individuals based on the Pharmacogenetics and Pharmacogenomics Knowledge Base (PharmGKB). Remarkable differences in the genotype and allele frequencies between the Hui and 26 other populations from the 1000 Genomes Project were assessed using the χ2 test. The genotype and allele frequencies of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in PTGS2 (rs20417), NAT2 (rs1801280), NAT2 (rs1208), ACE (rs4291), and CYP2D6 (rs1065852) were considerably different in the Hui population compared with those in the other 26 populations. Besides, using the PharmGKB database, we identified several VIP variants that may alter the drug metabolism of ibuprofen, rofecoxib (PTGS2), captopril (ACE), citalopram, and escitalopram (CYP2D6). We also discovered other variants associated with adverse reactions to cisplatin and cyclophosphamide (NAT2). Our study indicated that the loci of PTGS2 (rs20417), NAT2 (rs1801280 and rs1208), ACE (rs4291), and CYP2D6 (rs1065852) in the Hui population were obviously different from those in the other 26 populations, which provides reliable information for predicting drug efficacy. Genetic polymorphisms of very important pharmacogenes (VIP) are a significant factor contributing to inter-individual variability in drug therapy. The purpose of this study was to identify significantly different loci in the Yi population and to enrich their pharmacogenomic information. 54 VIP variants were selected from the Pharmacogenomics Knowledge Base (PharmGKB) and genotyped in 200 Yi individuals. Then, we compared their genotype distribution between the Yi population and the other 26 populations using the χ2 test. Compared with the other 26 populations, the genotype frequencies of 4 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), rs2108622 (CYP4F2), rs1065852 (CYP2D6), rs2070676 (CYP2E1), and rs4291 (ACE), had significant differences in the Yi population. For example, the TT genotype frequency of rs2108622 (8.1%) was higher than that of African populations, and the AA genotype frequency of rs1065852 (27.3%) was higher than that of other populations except East Asians. We also found that the Yi populations differed the least from East Asians and the most from Africans. Furthermore, the differences in these variants might be related to the effectiveness and toxicity risk of using warfarin, iloperidone, cisplatin cyclophosphamide, and other drugs in the Yi population. Cemented paste backfill (CPB) offers unique advantages for managing tailings and underground mining voids, sometimes incorporating coarse aggregate. The pipeline is crucial for transporting CPB that contains coarse aggregate (CPBC), and excessive wear can compromise safety and continuity of transportation. However, the wear characteristics of the pipeline that transports CPBC are not well understood. In this study, wear tests were conducted using a novel self-designed instrument to investigate the impact of CPBC mass fraction (76–84%), flow velocity (1.0–2.5 m/s), coarse aggregate content (0–35%), and coarse aggregate particle size (1.05–7.34 mm). The results indicate that the wear rate increases in a power-law manner with both flow velocity and the size of coarse aggregate particles. The wear rate exhibits a non-monotonic trend with increasing CPBC concentration, initially rising, then declining before sharply increasing. With an increase in coarse aggregate content, the wear rate initially decreases slowly and then increases rapidly. The inflection point in the wear rate is associated with the interconversion between abrasion and erosion, which is governed by the yield stress of CPBC. Given the same material composition and wear type, and minimal variation in aggregate particle size, a higher yield stress of CPBC results in a higher wear rate. Abrasion and erosion dominate the total wear, contributing an average of 71.3%. The findings facilitate the selection of CPBC recipes and pipe materials to mitigate excessive pipe wear, while also providing significant potential for predicting pipe wear based on yield stress of paste. • Appropriate coarse aggregate content mitigates the wear of paste filling pipe. • Mechanical wear dominates total pipe wear if paste contains coarse aggregate. • The paste rheological parameters have great potential in predicting pipe wear. Xanthoceras sorbifolia, a medicinal and oil-rich woody plant, has great potential for biodiesel production. However, little study explores the link between gene expression level and metabolite accumulation of X. sorbifolia in response to cold stress. Herein, we performed both transcriptomic and metabolomic analyses of X. sorbifolia seedlings to investigate the regulatory mechanism of resistance to low temperature (4 °C) based on physiological profile analyses. Cold stress resulted in a significant increase in the malondialdehyde content, electrolyte leakage and activity of antioxidant enzymes. A total of 1,527 common differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identified, of which 895 were upregulated and 632 were downregulated. Annotation of DEGs revealed that amino acid metabolism, glycolysis/gluconeogenesis, starch and sucrose metabolism, galactose metabolism, fructose and mannose metabolism, and the citrate cycle (TCA) were strongly affected by cold stress. In addition, DEGs within the plant mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signaling pathway and TF families of ERF, WRKY, NAC, MYB, and bHLH were transcriptionally activated. Through metabolomic analysis, we found 51 significantly changed metabolites, particularly with the analysis of primary metabolites, such as sugars, amino acids, and organic acids. Moreover, there is an overlap between transcript and metabolite profiles. Association analysis between key genes and altered metabolites indicated that amino acid metabolism and sugar metabolism were enhanced. A large number of specific cold-responsive genes and metabolites highlight a comprehensive regulatory mechanism, which will contribute to a deeper understanding of the highly complex regulatory program under cold stress in X. sorbifolia. The stability of cemented backfill Is compromised via Hasting disturbances in the two-step stopping method. To obtain the dynamic compressive strength of the backfill quickly and accurately, 40 sets of uniaxial impact experiments with different strain rates were conducted using the separated Hopkinson pressure bar(SHPB). Input parameters included the times and ratio, backfill density, curing age, and average strain rate, while the dynamic compressive strength of the backfill served as the output parameter. A prediction model, optimized using the back propagation neural network (BPNN) based on the logistic chaotic sparrow search algorithm (CSSA), was established and compared with the BPNN optimized by the traditional BPNN and sparrow search algorithm. The results demonstrate that the average relative error of the CSSA-BPNN model Is 4.11%, with fitting correlation coefficients among the predicted and measured values exceeding 0.96, indicating high prediction accuracy. The root- mean-square error of the CSSA-BPNN model is 0.395 0 MPa, the average absolute error is 0.359 2 MPa, and the coefficient of determination Is 0.995 2, all of which outperform the other two prediction models. This enables accurate prediction of the dynamic compressive strength of the backfill, greatly reducing the need for physical experiments and providing a novel approach to the strength design of mine cemented backfill. Background: Osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH) is a disease with a high disability rate, and genetic factors are closely related to its pathogenesis. This study aimed to investigate the possible correlation between ESR1 and APOE gene polymorphisms and the risk of ONFH. Methods: In this case–control study, the potential association between three genetic variants (rs2982573 C < T, rs10872678 C < T, and rs9322332 A < C) of the ESR1 gene and two genetic variants (rs7259620 A < G and rs769446 C < T) of the APOE gene with the risk of ONFH was investigated. Correlations between gene polymorphisms and ONFH risk were assessed using logistic regression analysis, with calculation of odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Results: The overall analysis demonstrated that rs9322332 in the ESR1 gene exhibited a correlation with a decreased risk of ONFH under the homozygous (AA vs.CC: OR = 0.69, 95% CI [0.53–0.90], p = 0.006), dominant (CA + AA vs. CC: OR = 0.70, 95% CI [0.54–0.90], p = 0.006), and additive (OR = 0.79, 95% CI [0.66–0.95], p = 0.013) models. The stratification analysis revealed that rs9322332 was linked to a lower risk of ONFH in subgroups characterized by individuals aged over 51 years and non-smokers. Nevertheless, there were no notable correlations found between ESR1 rs2982573 and rs10872678, as well as APOE rs7259620 and rs769446, with the risk of ONFH. Lipoxygenase (LOX) gene plays an essential role in plant growth, development, and stress response. 15 LOX genes were identified, which were unevenly distributed on chromosomes and divided into three subclasses in this study. In promoter region analysis, many cis-elements were identified in growth and development, abiotic stress response, hormonal response, and light response. qRT-PCR showed that the LOX gene showed tissue specificity in seven tissues, especially XsLOX1, 3, and 7 were relatively highly expressed in roots, stems, and axillary buds. The different expression patterns of LOX genes in response to abiotic stress and hormone treatment indicate that different XsLOX genes have different reactions to these stresses and play diversified roles. This study improves our understanding of the mechanism of LOX regulation in plant growth, development, and stress and lays a foundation for further analysis of biological functions. The AP2/ERF gene family involves numerous plant processes, including growth, development, metabolism, and various plant stress responses. However, several studies have been conducted on the AP2/ERF gene family in yellow horn, a new type of oil woody crop and an essential oil crop in China. According to sequence alignment and phylogenetic analyses, one hundred and forty-five AP2/ERF genes were detected from the yellow horn genome. They were divided into four relatively conserved subfamilies, including 21 AP2 genes, 119 ERBP genes, 4 RAV genes, and 1 Soloist gene. Gene analysis of XsAP2/ERF TFs showed 87 XsAP2/ERF TFs lacked introns. There were 75 pairs of collinearity relationships between X. sorbifolium and Arabidopsis, indicating a close similarity. In addition, the expression patterns of XsAP2/ERF TFs under cold treatments confirmed that the XsAP2/ERF TFs play essential roles in abiotic stress response. The expression of eight XsAP2/ERF transcription factors was verified in different tissues and under various stress treatments using RT-qPCR. This study establishes a starting point for further research to explore the potential mechanisms of identifying candidate AP2/ERF TFs that could respond to the abiotic stress of yellow horn. Background: Pharmacogenomics is a facet of personalized medicine that explores how genetic variants affect drug metabolism and adverse drug reactions. Therefore, this study aims to detect distinct pharmacogenomic variations among the Jingpo population and explore their clinical correlation with drug metabolism and toxicity. Methods: Agena MassARRAY Assay was used to genotype 57 VIP variants in 28 genes from 159 unrelated Jingpo participants. Subsequently, the chi-squared test and Bonferroni's statistical tests were utilized to conduct a comparative analysis of genotypes and allele frequencies between the Jingpo population and the other 26 populations from the 1000 Genome Project. Results: We discovered that the KHV (Kinh in Ho ChiMinh City, Vietnam), CHS (Southern Han Chi-nese, China) and JPT (Japanese in Tokyo, Japan) exhibited the smallest differences from the Jingpo with only 4 variants, while ESN (Esan in Nigeria) exhibited the largest differences with 30 variants. Besides, a total of six considerably different loci (rs4291 in ACE, rs20417 in PTGS2, rs1801280 and rs1799929 in NAT2, rs2115819 in ALOX5, rs1065852 in CYP2D6, p < 3.37 × 10–5) were identified in this study. According to PharmGKB, rs20417 (PTGS2), rs4291 (ACE), rs2115819 (ALOX5) and rs1065852 (CYP2D6) were found to be associated with the metabolism efficiency of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), aspirin, montelukast and tamoxifen, respectively. Meanwhile, rs1801280 and rs1799929 (NAT2) were found to be related to drug poisoning with slow acetylation. Conclusion: Our study unveils distinct pharmacogenomic variants in the Jingpo population and discovers their association with the metabolic efficiency of NSAIDs, montelukast, and tamoxifen. NQO1, NAD(P)H: quinone oxidoreductase 1, was first identified in rat and its role has been extensively studied. Even the roles of NQO1 in the maintenance of physiological function and disease were largely addressed, whether the tissue specific functions of the NQO1 in organ development remains unknown. In the current study, we identified two NQO1 isoforms (isoform 1 and isoform 2) and examined the expression of nqo1 variants in adult zebrafish organs and embryos at different stages. In adult organs, RT-PCR result indicated that nqo1 variant 1 was mainly expressed in stomach and intestine, while nqo1 variant 2 was expressed in all organs investigated except for heart. Further, RT-PCR result showed that the nqo1 variant 1 and variant 2 were expressed at all the embryonic stages, but nqo1 variant 1 expression level was much lower than that of nqo1 variant 2. To specifically examine the expression pattern of these two different nqo1 variants, we did whole mount in situ hybridization and the results demonstrated that, both of them were maternally expressed at 8-cell stage, and they were all expressed ubiquitously at early stage. At 24 hpf, nqo1 variant 2 was mainly expressed in yolk cells, and slightly in head and eyes. At 48 hpf, nqo1 variant 2 was restricted in lateral line neuromasts. From 72 hpf to 144 hpf, nqo1 variant 2 was mainly restricted in branchial arch, liver, swimming bladder and lateral line neuromasts, while from 124 hpf to 192 hpf, nqo1 variant 2 only restricted in liver, and disappeared in lateral line neuromasts. On the contrary, at the late embryonic stage, nqo1 variant 1 was only expressed in liver and swimming bladder while not in branchial arch and lateral line neuromasts. In conclusion, we systematically analyzed the expression pattern of nqo1 variant 1 and variant 2 in zebrafish at different embryonic stages, and our data implied the possible role of nqo1 in regulating liver, branchial arch and lateral neuromasts development. The investigation into the damage evolution mechanism of surrounding rock-backfill composites contributes to understanding the combined bearing instability mechanism and interaction theory. Uniaxial compression test and 3D Particle Flow Code (PFC) numerical simulation were conducted to investigate composites with different combinations, cement tailing ratios (CTR), and backfill structures. The mechanical properties and macroscopic fracture characteristics were studied through uniaxial compression, while crack propagation and energy evolution laws were discussed through simulation. Finally, the damage evolution mechanism was revealed based on acoustic emission (AE) monitoring and dissipation energy. The results indicate that the composite specimens exhibit a mixed failure mode with tension failure as the primary and shear failure as the secondary. As the CTR decreases, the peak strength decreases while the peak strain increases; the layered structure leads to a deterioration in load carrying capacity and delays plastic deformation. The damage evolution process of the composites can be divided into three stages: In the damage slow accumulation stage I, almost no cracks and energy dissipation occur at the beginning. As the load increases, cracks mainly occur at the contact and layered interfaces with low energy dissipation and low damage; in the accelerated damage development stage Ⅱ, the cracks accelerate and propagate with a slight increase in energy dissipation. As the peak stress is approached, the damage variables increase significantly; in the rapidly increasing damage stage Ⅲ, the cracks propagate sharply in a short time, and dissipation energy increases rapidly. Macroscopic failure of the surrounding rock first leads to instability, which then extends to backfill by destroying bonds on contact interfaces as cracks further develop. Cable-bolt failures due to stress corrosion cracking (SCC) could significantly compromise the sustainability and long-term stability of underground constructions. To fully understand the SCC of cable bolts, a two-step methodology was implemented: (i) long-term cable-bolt coupon tests using mineralogical materials collected from underground mines; and (ii) accelerated full-scale cable-bolt tests using an acidified solution. In the long-term tests, a novel three-point bending coupon was designed. The effects of mineralogical materials on SCC were evaluated under the simulated underground bolting conditions through the application of "corrosion cells". For accelerated tests, SCC resistance of different type of cable bolts was examined using the new designed tensile-loading apparatus under the periodically increasing strain-rate loading mechanism. It was identified that mineralogical materials and applied stress intensity accelerated the corrosion process of the cable bolts. The number of wires and wire surface conditions in different types of cable bolt directly affected SCC susceptibility. The cable bolts with a greater number of wires provided higher resistance to SCC. The developed experimental methodologies can be applied to study SCC in other reinforcement materials and the results can be used to design optimal support systems in different environmental and geotechnical conditions. Aims: Investigations into the nutrient contents and changes in the stoichiometry and nutrient resorption strategies of different original forests during their development are of great significance toward the establishment of healthy, high-quality forest ecosystems. Methods: A total of 24 sample plots with age gradients were established in natural Larix principis-rupprechtii forests and plantations, from which mature and senescent leaves, new branches, fine roots, and soil were collected and analyzed. The carbon (C), nitrogen (N), and phosphorus (P) contents were determined, and the stoichiometric ratios and resorption efficiencies were calculated. Results and conclusions: The soil organic carbon and total nitrogen of the forests accumulated with advancing age, whereas the total phosphorus decreased because of higher consumption. Plantation trees tended to reduce the storage of nutrients in inactive plant structures to prevent nutrient loss, whereas natural forest trees maintained a stable nutrient concentration within their active organs. Plantation and natural forest trees adopted highly conservative N and P utilization strategies through improved resorption efficiencies. However, plantation forests were more conservative than their natural counterparts. The mature leaves, litter, branches, and fine roots of natural forests were influenced to a greater degree by the soil P, whereas those of plantation forests were more affected by the soil N. Nutrient concentrations within the active organs of plantation trees were more strongly dependent on soil than natural forests. We considered that natural forests likely possessed a more extensive range of strategies to deal with the variable compositions and concentrations of soil nutrients, which might strengthen their resilience against the effects of aging. The integration of metasurfaces and optical waveguides is gradually attracting the attention of researchers because it allows for more efficient manipulation and guidance of light. However, most of the existing studies focus on passive devices, which lack dynamic modulation. This work utilizes the meta‐waveguides with liquid crystal(LC) to modulate the on‐chip spectrum, which is the first experimentally verified, to the authors' knowledge. By applying a voltage, the refractive index of the liquid crystal surrounding the meta‐waveguides can be tuned, resulting in a blue shift of the spectrum. The simulation shows that the 18.4 dB switching ratio can be achieved at 1550 nm. The meta‐waveguides are prepared using electron beam lithography (EBL), and the improved transmittance of the spectrum in the short wavelength is experimentally verified, which is consistent with the simulation trend. At 1551.64 nm wavelength, the device achieves a switching ratio of ≈16 dB with an active area of 8 µm × 0.4 µm. Based on this device, an optoelectronic computing architecture for the Hadamard matrix product and a novel wavelength selection switch are proposed. This work offers a promising avenue for on‐chip dynamic modulation in integrated photonics, which has the advantage of a compact active area, fast response time, and low energy consumption compared to conventional thermal‐light modulation. The aim of this study was to discover new biomarkers to detect breast cancer (BC), which is an aggressive cancer with a high mortality rate. In this study, bioinformatic analyses (differential analysis, weighted gene co-expression network analysis, and machine learning) were performed to identify potential candidate genes for BC to study their molecular mechanisms. Furthermore, Quantitative Real-time PCR and immunohistochemistry assays were used to examine the protein and mRNA expression levels of a particular candidate gene (DLGAP5). And the effects of DLGAP5 on cell proliferation, migration, invasion, and cell cycle were further assessed using the Cell Counting Kit-8 assay, colony formation, Transwell, wound healing, and flow cytometry assays. Moreover, the changes in the JAK2/STAT3 signaling-pathway-related proteins were detected by Western Blot. A total of 44 overlapping genes were obtained by differential analysis and weighted gene co-expression network analysis, of which 25 genes were found in the most tightly connected cluster. Finally, NEK2, CKS2, UHRF1, DLGAP5, and FAM83D were considered as potential biomarkers of BC. Moreover, DLGAP5 was highly expressed in BC. The down-regulation of DLGAP5 may inhibit the proliferation, migration, invasion, and cell cycle of BC cells, and the opposite was true for DLGAP5 overexpression. Correspondingly, silencing or overexpression of the DLGAP5 gene inhibited or activated the JAK2/STAT3 signaling pathway, respectively. DLGAP5, as a potential biomarker of BC, may impact the cell proliferation, migration, invasion, cell cycle, and BC development by modulating the JAK2/STAT3 signaling pathway. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Calcium plays an important role in plant growth, development, and response to environmental stimuli. Copines are conserved plasma membrane-localized calcium-binding proteins which regulate plant immune responses and development. In this study, we found that copine proteins BON2 and BON3, the paralogs of BON1, physically interact with calcium pumps ACA8 and ACA10 in Arabidopsis. Notably, ACA9, the closest homologue of ACA8 and ACA10 functioning in pollen tube growth, interacts with all three copines. This is consistent with the protein–protein interactions between the two protein families, the aca8, aca10, aca8/aca10, bon1/2/3 mutants as well as aca9 mutant exhibited defects on pollen germination and seed production. Yellow horn (Xanthoceras sorbifolia) is an oil-rich woody plant cultivated for bio-energy production in China. Soil saline-alkalization is a prominent agricultural-related environmental problem limiting plant growth and productivity. In this study, we performed comparative physiological and transcriptomic analyses to examine the mechanisms of X. sorbifolia seedling responding to salt and alkaline-salt stress. With the exception of chlorophyll content, physiological experiments revealed significant increases in all assessed indices in response to salt and saline-alkali treatments. Notably, compared with salt stress, we observed more pronounced changes in electrolyte leakage (EL) and malondialdehyde (MDA) levels in response to saline-alkali stress, which may contribute to the greater toxicity of saline-alkali soils. In total, 3,087 and 2,715 genes were differentially expressed in response to salt and saline-alkali treatments, respectively, among which carbon metabolism, biosynthesis of amino acids, starch and sucrose metabolism, and reactive oxygen species signaling networks were extensively enriched, and transcription factor families of bHLH, C2H2, bZIP, NAC, and ERF were transcriptionally activated. Moreover, relative to salt stress, saline-alkali stress activated more significant upregulation of genes related to H+ transport, indicating that regulation of intracellular pH may play an important role in coping with saline-alkali stress. Premature failures of cable bolts due to stress corrosion cracking (SCC) in underground reinforcement systems are universal issues with limited practical countermeasures at present. To determine the SCC fracture mechanism which is an essential step to develop the potential solutions, the environment conditions leading to SCC failures were examined using four-point bend tests. Fractographic features of both serviced-failed and laboratory-failed cable bolts were investigated and compared. It was identified that the fracture surfaces of cable wires were characterised by step-shape fracture mode. The highly-oriented wavy lamellae microstructures of cable wires, produced during cold-drawn manufacturing process, have significant effects on the direction and path of crack propagation. Hydrogen-assisted SCC was suggested as the dominant fracture mechanism in cable bolt failures. SCC only occurred in the environmental conditions that promoted the diffusion of hydrogen diffusion into the cable wires, and crack growth rates were determined by the hydrogen diffusion rates. In order to explore the influence of morphological characteristics of green patches on its surrounding thermal environment, the remote sensing image data of Taiyuan City was used as the basic data source, and the temperature field under the influence of morphological characteristics of green patches was simulated by CFD technique. The dimensionless parameter of relative temperature change rate was introduced as the index of thermal environment effect. From the existing shape index reflecting the patch characteristics, the indicators of the green patch affecting the surrounding thermal environment were screened out, and the corresponding quantitative relationship between them was established. Based on the statistical analysis of patch shape index and thermal environment effect index, it is pointed out that the deviation degree for equivalent perimeter of patch is positively correlated with the relative change rate of temperature reflecting thermal environment effect. Meanwhile, the smaller area of green space can be used to improve local microclimate. The introduction of CFD technology into the study of urban thermal environment provides a basis for exploring the key parameters to improve the ecological environment benefits of urban green space and determining the shape control index of patch in green space planning and design. We propose and experimentally demonstrate a 16-channel flexible optical passband filter array for colorless, directionless, contentionless, flexible reconfigurable optical add/drop multiplexer. Utilizing high-resolution diffraction grating for wavelength dispersion and liquid crystal on silicon for wavelength modulation, the filter array can realize adding/dropping 16 independent optical channels with tunable bandwidth and center wavelength. Furthermore, each channel is capable of tuning multiple wavelengths with different bandwidths. The proposed filter array realized remarkable performance, such as less than 6dB insertion loss, 50GHz to 5000GHz bandwidth tuning range, transmission bandwidth covering the full C band, and greater than 30dB optical isolation among the channels. Zinc (Zn) is an essential micronutrient for plants. Adequate regulation of Zn uptake, transport and distribution, and adaptation to Zn-deficiency stress or Zn-excess toxicity are crucial for plant growth and development. However, little has been done to understand the molecular responses of plants toward different Zn supply levels. In the present study, we investigated the growth and physiological responses of tobacco seedlings grown under Zn-completely deficient, Zn-limiting, Zn-normal, and Zn-4-fold sufficient conditions, respectively, and demonstrated that Zn deficiency/limitation caused oxidative stress and impaired growth of tobacco plants. Combined transcriptome and proteome analysis revealed up-regulation of genes/proteins associated with Zn uptake and distribution, including ZIPs, NAS3s, and HMA1s, and up-regulation of genes/proteins involved in regulation of oxidative stress, including SODs, APX1s, GPX6, and GSTs in tobacco seedlings in response to Zn deficiency/limitation, suggesting that tobacco possessed mechanisms to regulate Zn homeostasis primarily through up-regulation of the ZIPs–NAS3s module, and to alleviate Zn deficiency/limitation-induced oxidative stress through activation of the antioxidant machinery. Our results provide novel insights into the adaptive mechanisms of tobacco in response to different Zn supplies, and would lay a theoretical foundation for development of varieties of tobacco or its relatives with high tolerance to Zn-deficiency. • There was a significant association between the OR51E1 gene polymorphisms and glioma risk. • The polymorphism rs10768148 and 10,500,608 was significantly associated with an increased risk of glioma. • The SNP rs7102992 of OR51E1 was associated with a significantly increased susceptibility to glioma in patients over 40 years of age. • There are strong synergistic interactions between polymorphism rs74052483 and rs10768148. Glioma is one of the common primary intracranial tumors, which is heterogeneous among individuals with a low cure rate. Our study aimed to investigate the association between single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of the OR51E1 gene and glioma susceptibility in the Chinese Han population. A total of six SNPs on OR51E1 in 1,026 subjects (526 cases and 500 controls) were genotyped by MassARRAY iPLEX GOLD assay. The association between these SNPs and glioma susceptibility was analyzed using logistic regression, and odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were also calculated. The multifactor dimensionality reduction (MDR) method was applied to detect "SNP-SNP" interactions. In the overall sample, polymorphisms rs10768148, rs7102992, and rs10500608 were identified to be associated with glioma risk. In the stratified analysis based on gender, only polymorphism rs10768148 was observed to be associated with the risk of glioma. In the age-stratified analysis, rs7102992, rs74052483, and rs10500609 contributed to the risk of glioma in subjects aged > 40 years. And polymorphisms rs10768148 and rs7102992 were associated with the risk of glioma in subjects aged ≤ 40 years and subjects with astrocytoma. In addition, a strong synergistic relationship between rs74052483 and rs10768148, and a strong redundant relationship between rs7102992 and rs10768148 were identified in the study. This study demonstrated the association of OR51E1 polymorphisms with glioma susceptibility, providing a basis for assessing glioma risk-associated variants in the Chinese Han population. Aims Transplantation of a tissue engineered cardiac pacemaker (TECP) may represent a novel therapy for cardiac sinus node dysfunction. We previously reported that cardiac progenitor cells (CPCs) derived from embryonic heart tubes could differentiate into cardiac pacemaking cells after endothelin-1 treatment. We aimed to examine the feasibility of TECP fabricated from CPCs-derived pacemaking cells and vascularization of TECP fabricated from CPCs-derived pacemaking cells and endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) in vitro and in vivo implantation. Main methods TECP created using CPCs-derived pacemaking cells and vTECP created by mixing CPCs and EPCs in vitro were implanted into rat hearts. Sinus node damaged was induced by formaldehyde insult. Key results Spontaneous beating tissues, namely TECP, were obtained after seeding CPCs-derived pacemaking cells into Matrigel. ECG and epicardial multielectrode array (MEA) measurements confirmed implanted TECP have electrical activity. TECP implantation promoted individual survival in sinus node damage models (15/22 animals lived versus 0/17 control). vTECP fabricated by mixing the both EPCs and CPCs-derived pacemaking cells with Matrigel in equal proportions optimally formed pre-vascularization in vitro . The implantation of vTECP enhanced electrical activity in vivo , which may correlate with increased vascularization. PI3K-Akt-VEGF/VEGFR signaling was involved with vascular ingrowth in vTECP. Significance Our data supports the therapeutic potential of TECP fabricated with the CPCs-derived pacemaking cells for sinus node dysfunction. As essential components of soil properties and microbial processes, carbon (C), nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), and extracellular enzymes play key roles in carbon and nutrient cycling in forest ecosystems worldwide. Forest management should include the development of healthy ecosystems to prevent soil degradation and nutrient loss and support productivity. However, it remains unclear how forest stand density and month impact extracellular soil enzymes, C, N, and P concentrations and their stoichiometry. A total of 486 soil samples were extracted from forest stand plots of different densities and ages, which were sampled continuously during the growing season (May-October). The soil organic C, total N, total P, β-1,4-glucosidase, β- N -acetyl Glucosaminidase, leucine aminopeptidase, and acid phosphatase were quantified. Higher levels of soil organic matter (e.g., C and N) was observed to accumulate in highly dense 27-year-old stands (27a) (2125–2425 trees ha−1). Moderate stand densities (36a, 925–1325 trees ha−1; 48a, 875–1150 trees ha−1) facilitated the procurement of C and N by microorganisms and C and Nsequestration in near-mature and mature forest soils due to an improved environment and more robust microbial activities. The soil contained more N during the mid-growing season, where in July it was ∼ 40 % higher than at the beginning and end of the growing season. Further, the soil microbes that acquired C and N were more robust. Monthly regulation caused the C:N:P acquisition ratio to deviate significantly from 1:1:1. Soil microbes absorbed C and N mid-growing season; however, they tended to absorb N and P at its onset and end. Monthly regulation may serve as a "switch" that adjusts the capacities of soil microbes to acquire C and N in 36a and 48a plantations. By using altitude as a surrogate of warming treatment, we transplanted seedlings ofLarix principis-rupprechtiiMayr. andPicea meyeriRehd. Et Wils. from their original altitude (2000 m a.s.l.) to a lower altitude (1500 m a.s.l.) and grown in two light environments (full and low) at both altitudes for two years in north-central China, to determine the effects of warming and light on seedling survival and growth performance. The results showed that altitude and light did not affect survival rates of both species, but had significant interactions on their growth performance. Although both species had greater heights, root collar diameters and biomass accumulations in full than in low light at high altitude, such growth advantage disappeared or even reversed at low altitude, especially forL. principis-rupprechtii. Moreover,L. principis-rupprechtiiseedlings increased specific leaf area, leaf area ratio and shoot:root ratio at low altitude. Despite this study is relatively short termed, such results demonstrated the importance of shade tolerance in species responses to warming and may imply an altered regeneration pattern ofL. principis-rupprechtiiif the current warming trend remains in the future. The stability of underground goaf in filling mining is dominated by the interaction mechanism of the backfill-surrounding rock combination. In order to investigate the interaction mechanism and failure characteristics of the backfill-surrounding rock combination, backfill-red sandstone combinations with three different cement–sand ratios were prepared for uniaxial compression tests. The deformation and failure characteristics of the specimens were analyzed. It was found that at the cement–sand ratio of 1:4, the backfill and red sandstone interacted with and restricted each other, and the through cracks appeared in the whole specimens, which indicated that the backfill and red sandstone can jointly resist external loads and play a role in common bearing. However, with the decrease of the cement–sand ratio, the stress mainly acts on the backfill, and the deformation observed in the backfill is large while there is no obvious rupture in the rock. Based on the failure characteristics and the stress–strain curves of the specimens, the damage constitutive relationship that can describe the failure process and deformation characteristics is proposed. Correlated with the experiment results, the damage constitutive equation is established in three stages including compaction pre-synergy stage, quasi-elastic synergy deformation stage and rupture deformation stage. The failure characteristics observed in each stage are analyzed. The research results are of great significance to accurately understanding the interaction between backfill and surrounding rock, which can be used to design and select the mixture ratio of the filling materials. The innate immune response is essential for combating infectious disease. Macrophages and other cells respond to infection by releasing cytokines, such as interleukin-1? (IL-1?), which in turn activate a well-described, myeloid-differentiation factor 88 (MYD88)-mediated, nuclear factor-?B (NF-?B)-dependent transcriptional pathway that results in inflammatory-cell activation and recruitment. Endothelial cells, which usually serve as a barrier to the movement of inflammatory cells out of the blood and into tissue, are also critical mediators of the inflammatory response. Paradoxically, the cytokines vital to a successful immune defence also have disruptive effects on endothelial cell-cell interactions and can trigger degradation of barrier function and dissociation of tissue architecture. The mechanism of this barrier dissolution and its relationship to the canonical NF-?B pathway remain poorly defined. Here we show that the direct, immediate and disruptive effects of IL-1? on endothelial stability in a human in vitro cell model are NF-?B independent and are instead the result of signalling through the small GTPase ADP-ribosylation factor 6 (ARF6) and its activator ARF nucleotide binding site opener (ARNO; also known as CYTH2). Moreover, we show that ARNO binds directly to the adaptor protein MYD88, and thus propose MYD88-ARNO-ARF6 as a proximal IL-1? signalling pathway distinct from that mediated by NF-?B. Finally, we show that SecinH3, an inhibitor of ARF guanine nucleotide-exchange factors such as ARNO, enhances vascular stability and significantly improves outcomes in animal models of inflammatory arthritis and acute inflammation. Desert vegetation is an important part of arid and semi-arid areas, which plays an important role in preventing wind and fixing sand, conserving water and soil, maintaining the balanced ecosystem. Therefore, mapping the vegetation accurately is necessary to conserve rare desert plants in the fragile ecosystems that are easily damaged and slow to recover. In mapping desert vegetation, there are some weaknesses by using traditional digital classification algorithms from high resolution data. The traditional approach is to use spectral features alone, without spatial information. With the rapid development of drones, cost-effective visible light data is easily available, and the data would be non-spectral but with spatial information. In this study, a method of mapping the desert rare vegetation was developed based on the pixel classifiers and use of Random Forest (RF) algorithm with the feature of VDVI and texture. The results indicated the accuracy of mapping the desert rare vegetation were different with different methods and the accuracy of the method proposed was higher than the traditional method. The most commonly used decision rule in the traditional method, named Maximum Likelihood classifier, produced overall accuracy (76.69%). The inclusion of texture and VDVI features with RGB (Red Green Blue) data could increase the separability, thus improved the precision. The overall accuracy could be up to 84.19%, and the Kappa index with 79.96%. From the perspective of features, VDVI is less important than texture features. The texture features appeared more important than spectral features in desert vegetation mapping. The RF method with the RGB+VDVI+TEXTURE would be better method for desert vegetation mapping compared with the common method.
