The Wheatstone bridge experiment is a fundamental component of the undergraduate physics curriculum, traditionally taught as a hands-on activity to explore resistance measurement and circuit balancing. This study introduces a pedagogical approach that combines qualitative symmetry-based analysis with quantitative computer-based sensitivity simulations, enhancing students' understanding and engagement. A key focus is demonstrating how balanced configurations in the Wheatstone bridge affect circuit sensitivity, providing students with an intuitive grasp of the relationship between symmetry and measurement accuracy. Using simulations, we investigate the impact of internal resistances in the galvanometer and power supply, showing that lower resistances increase the circuit's sensitivity to minor resistance changes. Additionally, various resistor configurations are analyzed, highlighting the effect of careful adjustments in achieving maximal sensitivity. A Bayesian optimization-based software tool was developed to guide students in selecting optimal component values, thereby minimizing the need for manual adjustments while ensuring accurate measurements. This integrated approach bridges traditional experimentation with computational techniques, fostering critical thinking and preparing students for modern scientific practices. The study demonstrates that this enriched methodology significantly enhances the learning experience, equipping students with valuable skills in both experimental and computational aspects of physics.

Reducing false positives is essential for enhancing object detector performance, as reflected in the mean Average Precision (mAP) metric. Although object detectors have achieved notable improvements and high mAP scores on the COCO dataset, analysis reveals limited progress in addressing false positives caused by non-target visual clutter-background objects not included in the annotated categories. This issue is particularly critical in real-world applications, such as fire and smoke detection, where minimizing false alarms is crucial. In this study, we introduce COCO-FP, a new evaluation dataset derived from the ImageNet-1K dataset, designed to address this issue. By extending the original COCO validation dataset, COCO-FP specifically assesses object detectors' performance in mitigating background false positives. Our evaluation of both standard and advanced object detectors shows a significant number of false positives in both closed-set and open-set scenarios. For example, the AP50 metric for YOLOv9-E decreases from 72.8 to 65.7 when shifting from COCO to COCO-FP. The dataset is available at https://github.com/COCO-FP/COCO-FP.

In this paper, we present charged spherically symmetric black hole solutions and slowly rotating charged solutions in bumblebee gravity with and without a cosmological constant. The static spherically symmetric solutions describe the Reissner-Nordstr\"om-like black hole and ReissnerNordstr\"om-(anti) de Sitter-like black hole, while the stationary and axially symmetric soltuions describe Kerr-Newman-like black hole and Kerr-Newman-(anti) de Sitter-like black hole. We utilize the Hamilton-Jacobi formalism to study the shadows of the black holes. Additionally, we investigate the effect of the electric charge and Lorentz-violating parameters on the radius of the shadow reference circle and the distortion parameter. We find that the radius of the reference circle decreases with the Lorentz-violating parameter and charge parameter, while the distortion parameter increases with the Lorentz-violating parameter and the charge parameter., Comment: 25 pages, 6 figures

Experimental results that BaIn2As2 and Ca(Sr)In2As2, which are the same class of alkali metal compounds, belong to different structural phases have puzzled the current materials physics community. Here, we investigate the pressure-induced structural phase transition of AIn2As2 and its accompanying improvement in mechanical and thermal properties. Firstly, the structural stability of the materials and their structural phase transitions under pressure are characterized by enthalpy and double checking by phonon dispersion spectrum. We also confirm the structural phase transitions of the hexagonal and monoclinic phases from a group-theoretic point of view, associating their symmetry operations using transformation matrices. In terms of mechanical properties, we propose an effective scheme for pressure modulation of the anisotropy of AIn2As2 materials and to induce the transformation of AIn2As2 from isotropic to anisotropic (hexagonal) and from brittle to ductile (hexagonal and monoclinic). Meanwhile, we find the negative Poisson's ratio phenomenon under compression and tension, which is favorable for a wide range of applications of this series of materials in aerospace, medicine, sensors, etc. In terms of thermal properties, applying pressure will enhance the structural phase transition temperature of AIn2As2 materials to near room temperature. We further give direct evidence of phonon softening based on group velocity calculations and reveal that phonon softening prevents the heat capacity from reaching the Dulong-Petit limit. Gravitational echoes can be used to probe the structure of spacetime. In this paper, we investigate the gravitational echoes in different braneworld models in five-dimensional spacetime. We derive the gravitational perturbation equations of these models, and obtain the time-dependent evolution equations of the extra-dimensional and radial components. Using a Gaussian wave packet as initial data, we study the time evolution of the gravitational perturbation. By monitoring the evolution of the Gaussian wave packet, the gravitational echoes are observed whether the wave packet is generated from inside or outside the braneworld. Furthermore, we can restrict the parameters of the braneworld by calculating the strength of the first gravitational echo and using the current gravitational wave data., Comment: 29 pages, 19 figures, 1 table

As the fingerprints of black holes, quasinormal modes are closely associated with many properties of black holes. Especially, the ringdown phase of gravitational waveforms from the merger of compact binary components can be described by quasinormal modes. Serving as a model-independent approach, the framework of parameterized quasinormal frequencies offers a universal method for investigating quasinormal modes of diverse black holes. In this work, we first obtain the Schr\"{o}dinger-like master equation of the axial gravitational perturbation of a holonomy-corrected black hole. We calculate the corresponding quasinormal frequencies using the Wentzel-Kramers-Brillouin approximation and asymptotic iteration methods. We investigate the numerical evolution of an initial wave packet on the background spacetime. Then, we deduce the parameterized expression of the quasinormal frequencies and find that $r_0 \leq 10^{-2}$ is a necessary condition for the parameterized approximation to be valid. We also study the impact of the quantum parameter $r_0$ on the greybody factor and Hawking radiation. In this work, we investigate the quasinormal modes of the Poincar\'e thick brane with a finite extra dimension. Unlike the case with an infinite extra dimension, the gravitational effective potential exhibits three distinct shapes within different ranges of the parameter $n$ in the warp factor: harmonic oscillator potential, P\"oschl-Teller potential, and volcano-like potential. We then study various types of perturbations in this system. Utilizing a combination of analytical, semi-analytical, and numerical methods, we obtain the quasinormal modes of the perturbed fields. Our findings reveal a set of discrete quasinormal modes for the thick brane, similar to those of black holes. Interestingly, when $n=1$, the quasinormal modes exhibit purely imaginary behavior. This study may provide a new way to detect the existence of extra dimensions.

In this work, we study the gravitational quasinormal modes of the thick brane in Rastall gravity. Using the asymptotic iteration and direct integration methods, we solve the quasinormal frequencies of the Rastall thick brane. We also obtained the waveforms of these quasinormal modes through numerical evolution. The results indicate that although the Rastall thick brane lacks a bound zero mode, when the Rastall parameter $\lambda\gtrsim0$, a long-lived quasinormal mode appears. This long-lived quasinormal mode may restore the four-dimensional effective Newtonian potential on the brane on a large scale. This may provide a new perspective for the localization of gravity on thick branes, that a thick brane does not necessarily require the gravity to be localized, perhaps quasi-localized is sufficient., Comment: 10 pages, 6 figures, and 1 table

Axions and axion-like particles (ALPs) appear in many extensions of the Standard Model and are being investigated as promising dark matter (DM) candidates. One viable methodology for their detection involves the investigation of the line-like radio emissions from the dwarf spheroidal galaxy, potentially originating from the radiative decay of ALPs or the conversion of ALPs in the magnetic field. In this work, we constrain the properties of ALPs using the 2-hour radio observation of Coma Berenices through the Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope (FAST). The $\rm 95\%$ upper limits of the ALP-photon coupling are calculated for the ALP decay and conversion scenarios, respectively. Note that the sensitive ALP masses for FAST range from $\sim \mu \rm eV$ to tens of $\mu \rm eV$, where ALP can explain the DM abundance naturally. However, our limits are weaker than those of the CAST helioscope, which can provide an independent and complementary check on the ALP non-detection for ground experiments. Furthermore, we evaluate the expected sensitivity on the ALP of FAST with its full designed bandwidth (70 $\rm MHz$ - 3 $\rm GHz$) for 100 hours of observation time. Our results indicate that, even with the exceptional sensitivity of the FAST, it is challenging to surpass the existing experimental constraints on ALP DM using radio observation of dSphs, unless the possible enhancements of ALP signals by compact stars in dSphs are considered., Comment: 8 pages, 3 figures, accepted for publication in PLB

From a five-dimensional Einstein-Maxwell theory, Bah et al. constructed a singularity free topology star/black hole [Phys. Rev. Lett. 126, 151101 (2021)]. After the Klein-Kluza reduction, i.e., integrating the extra space dimension, it can obtain an effective four-dimensional static spherical charged black hole with scalar hair. In this paper, we study the quasinormal modes (QNMs) of the scalar field, electromagnetic field, and gravitational field on the background of this effective four-dimensional charged black hole. The radial parts of the perturbed fields all satisfy a Schr\"{o}dinger-like equation. Using the asymptotic iteration method, we obtain the QNM frequencies semianalytically. For low overtone QNMs, the results obtained from the asymptotic iteration method and the Wentzel-Kramers-Brillouin approximation method agree well. In the null coordinates, the evolution of a Gaussian package is also studied. Recently, a static spherically symmetric black hole solution was found in gravity nonminimally coupled a background Kalb-Ramond field. The Lorentz symmetry is spontaneously broken when the Kalb-Ramond field has a nonvanishing vacuum expectation value. In this work, we focus on the quasinormal modes and greybody factor of this black hole. The master equations for the perturbed scalar field, electromagnetic field, and gravitational field can be written into a uniform form. We use three methods to solve the quasinormal frequencies in the frequency domain. The results agree well with each other. The time evolution of a Gaussian wave packet is studied. The quasinormal frequencies fitted from the time evolution data agree well with that of frequency domain. The greybody factor is calculated by Wentzel-Kramers-Brillouin (WKB) method. In this paper, we investigate the optical properties of a charged black hole with scalar hair (CSH) within the context of four-dimensional Einstein-Maxwell-Dilaton gravity. To achieve this, we consider three distinct toy models of thin accretion disks. The presence of dilaton coupling allows us to express both the solutions of CSH and the Reissner-Nordstr\"om (RN) black hole in terms of their mass ($M$) and charge ($Q$). Our findings reveal differences in the effective potentials $V_{eff}$, photon sphere radii $r_{ph}$, and innermost stable circular orbit $r_{isco}$ between the CSH and RN black hole cases, which become increasingly pronounced as the charge parameter $Q$ increases. However, no noticeable distinctions are observed concerning the critical impact parameter $b_{ph}$. When the ratio of the photon ring band and the lensed ring band exceeds 0.1, it may suggest the presence of a charged black hole with scalar hair. Furthermore, our results underscore the significant influence of the charge parameter $Q$ on the brightness distributions of the direct, lensed ring, and photon ring for three standard emission functions. These findings emphasize the potential for distinguishing between CSH and RN black holes through an analysis of direct intensity and peak brightness in specific accretion disk models., Comment: 13 pages, 13figures

In this paper, we study the influence of the parameters for the accelerating Kerr-Newman black hole on the shadows and the constraints, extensively. We find that the rotating parameter $a$, the charge parameter $e$, and the inclination angle $\theta_0$ affect the shadow qualitatively similar to that of Kerr-Newman black holes. The result shows that the size of the shadow will scale down with the accelerating factor $A$. Besides, the factor $A$ also can affect the best viewing angles, which make the observations maximum deviate from $\theta_0=\frac{\pi}{2}$, and the degree of the deviations are less than $1\%$. Then, we assume the M87* as an accelerating Kerr-Newman black hole with the mass $M=6.5\times10^9M_\odot$ and the distance $r_0=16.8Mpc$. Combining the EHT observations, we find that neither the observations, circularity deviation $\Delta C$ or axial ratio $D_x$ can distinguish the accelerating black hole or not. However, the characteristic areal-radius of the shadow curve $R_a$ can give corresponding constraints on the parameters of the accelerating Kerr-Newman black hole. The results shows that the bigger accelerating factor $A$ is, the stronger constraints on the rotating parameter $a$ and charged parameter $e$. {The maximum range of the accelerating factor is $Ar_0\leq0.558$ for a accelerating Schwarzschild case with $(a/M=e/M=0)$, and for an extremely slow accelerating case $(Ar_0\leq0.01)$, the ranges of rotating parameter $a$ and charged parameter $e$ are $a/M\in(0,1)$ and $e/M\in(0,0.9)$., Comment: 9 pages, 16figures

Gestures are non-verbal but important behaviors accompanying people's speech. While previous methods are able to generate speech rhythm-synchronized gestures, the semantic context of the speech is generally lacking in the gesticulations. Although semantic gestures do not occur very regularly in human speech, they are indeed the key for the audience to understand the speech context in a more immersive environment. Hence, we introduce LivelySpeaker, a framework that realizes semantics-aware co-speech gesture generation and offers several control handles. In particular, our method decouples the task into two stages: script-based gesture generation and audio-guided rhythm refinement. Specifically, the script-based gesture generation leverages the pre-trained CLIP text embeddings as the guidance for generating gestures that are highly semantically aligned with the script. Then, we devise a simple but effective diffusion-based gesture generation backbone simply using pure MLPs, that is conditioned on only audio signals and learns to gesticulate with realistic motions. We utilize such powerful prior to rhyme the script-guided gestures with the audio signals, notably in a zero-shot setting. Our novel two-stage generation framework also enables several applications, such as changing the gesticulation style, editing the co-speech gestures via textual prompting, and controlling the semantic awareness and rhythm alignment with guided diffusion. Extensive experiments demonstrate the advantages of the proposed framework over competing methods. In addition, our core diffusion-based generative model also achieves state-of-the-art performance on two benchmarks. We study the electronic properties of a novel topological defect structure for graphene interspersed with C558-line defects along the Armchair boundary. This system has the topological property of being topologically three-periodic and the type-II Dirac-fermionic character of the embedded topological phase. At the same time, we show computationally that the topological properties of the system are overly dependent on the coupling of this line defect. Using strain engineering to regulate the magnitude of hopping at the defect, the position of the energy level can be easily changed to achieve a topological phase transition. We also discuss the local magnetic moment and the ferromagnetic ground state in the context of line defects, which is the conclusion after considering additional Coulomb interactions. This leads to spin polarization of the whole system. Finally, by modulating the local magnetic moment at the position of the line defect, we achieve a tunable spin quantum conductance in a one-dimensional nanoribbon. Near the Fermi energy level, it also has the property of complete spin polarization. Here, we report a new intrinsic magnetic topological insulator FeBi$_2$Te$_4$ based on first-principles calculations and it can achieve a rich topological phase under pressure modulation. Without pressure, we predict that both FeBi$_2$Te$_4$ ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic orders are non-trivial topological insulators. Furthermore, FeBi$_2$Te$_4$ of FM-z order will undergo a series of phase transitions from topological insulator to semimetals and then to trivial insulator under pressure. Finally, we further clarify and verify topological phase transitions with low-energy effective model calculations. This topological phase transition process is attributed to the synergy of the magnetic moment and the spin-orbit coupling. The unique topological properties of FeBi$_2$Te$_4$ will be of great interest in driving the development of quantum effects.

Within an isospin- and momentum-dependent Boltzmann-Uehling-Uhlenbeck (IBUU) transport model, we investigate the hard photons emission from neutron-proton bremsstrahlung in reaction system of $^{208}Pb+^{208}Pb$ around Fermi energy. Effects of neutron skins in coordinate ($r$) space and proton skins in momentum ($k$) space on the time evolution, the angular distribution, and the transverse momentum spectra of hard photons with different energies are studied. It is shown that the emission of direct hard photons is sensitive to the neutron skin, which has larger effects for more energetic hard photons. Meanwhile, we find that the proton skins have an important influence on the emission of direct hard photons, and its effect is actually even larger than that of neutron skins. It needs to take the effect of proton skins into account when we determine the size of neutron skins by comparing transport mode predictions of hard photons with the corresponding experiment measurements.

Stimulated by the recent researches of black hole thermodynamics for black hole with Newman-Unti-Tamburino (NUT) parameter, we investigate the thermodynamics and weak cosmic censorship conjecture for a Kerr-Newman Taub-NUT black hole. By defining the electric charge as a Komar integral over the event horizon, we construct a consistent first law of black hole thermodynamics for a Kerr-Newman Taub-NUT black hole through Euclidean action. Having the first law of black hole thermodynamics, we investigate the weak cosmic censorship conjecture for the black hole with a charged test particle and a complex scalar field. We find that an extremal black hole cannot be destroyed by a charged test particle and a complex scalar field. For a near-extremal black hole with small NUT parameter, it can be destroyed by a charged test particle but cannot be destroyed by a complex scalar field., Comment: 12 pages,3 figures,published version

In this work, we investigate the gravitational quasinormal modes (QNMs) and the gravitational resonances of a thick brane model. We use the asymptotic iteration and shooting methods to obtain the quasinormal frequencies (QNFs) of the brane. On the other hand, we investigate the resonances and their evolution numerically. The results show that the oscillations of the resonances equal (up to numerical error) to the real parts of the QNFs, while the damping rates of the resonances equal to the imaginary parts of the QNFs. The QNMs and resonances, both of them can be regarded as the characteristic modes of the thick brane, are closely related with each other. We study the axial gravitational quasinormal modes of a self-dual black hole in loop quantum gravity. Considering the axial perturbation of the background spacetime, we obtain the Schr\"{o}dinger-like master equation. Then we calculate the quasinormal frequencies with the Wentzel-Kramers-Brillouin approximation and the asymptotic iteration method. We also investigate the numerical evolution of an initial wave packet on the self-dual black hole spacetime. We find the quantum correction parameter $P$ positively affects the absolute values of both the real and imaginary parts of quasinormal frequencies. We derive the relation between the parameters of the circular null geodesics and quasinormal frequencies in the eikonal limit for the self-dual black hole, and numerically verify this relation., Comment: 14 pages, 3 figures, 5 tables
