In this paper, we present charged spherically symmetric black hole solutions and slowly rotating charged solutions in bumblebee gravity with and without a cosmological constant. The static spherically symmetric solutions describe the Reissner-Nordstr\"om-like black hole and ReissnerNordstr\"om-(anti) de Sitter-like black hole, while the stationary and axially symmetric soltuions describe Kerr-Newman-like black hole and Kerr-Newman-(anti) de Sitter-like black hole. We utilize the Hamilton-Jacobi formalism to study the shadows of the black holes. Additionally, we investigate the effect of the electric charge and Lorentz-violating parameters on the radius of the shadow reference circle and the distortion parameter. We find that the radius of the reference circle decreases with the Lorentz-violating parameter and charge parameter, while the distortion parameter increases with the Lorentz-violating parameter and the charge parameter., Comment: 25 pages, 6 figures

Gravitational echoes can be used to probe the structure of spacetime. In this paper, we investigate the gravitational echoes in different braneworld models in five-dimensional spacetime. We derive the gravitational perturbation equations of these models, and obtain the time-dependent evolution equations of the extra-dimensional and radial components. Using a Gaussian wave packet as initial data, we study the time evolution of the gravitational perturbation. By monitoring the evolution of the Gaussian wave packet, the gravitational echoes are observed whether the wave packet is generated from inside or outside the braneworld. Furthermore, we can restrict the parameters of the braneworld by calculating the strength of the first gravitational echo and using the current gravitational wave data., Comment: 29 pages, 19 figures, 1 table

As the fingerprints of black holes, quasinormal modes are closely associated with many properties of black holes. Especially, the ringdown phase of gravitational waveforms from the merger of compact binary components can be described by quasinormal modes. Serving as a model-independent approach, the framework of parameterized quasinormal frequencies offers a universal method for investigating quasinormal modes of diverse black holes. In this work, we first obtain the Schr\"{o}dinger-like master equation of the axial gravitational perturbation of a holonomy-corrected black hole. We calculate the corresponding quasinormal frequencies using the Wentzel-Kramers-Brillouin approximation and asymptotic iteration methods. We investigate the numerical evolution of an initial wave packet on the background spacetime. Then, we deduce the parameterized expression of the quasinormal frequencies and find that $r_0 \leq 10^{-2}$ is a necessary condition for the parameterized approximation to be valid. We also study the impact of the quantum parameter $r_0$ on the greybody factor and Hawking radiation. In this work, we investigate the quasinormal modes of the Poincar\'e thick brane with a finite extra dimension. Unlike the case with an infinite extra dimension, the gravitational effective potential exhibits three distinct shapes within different ranges of the parameter $n$ in the warp factor: harmonic oscillator potential, P\"oschl-Teller potential, and volcano-like potential. We then study various types of perturbations in this system. Utilizing a combination of analytical, semi-analytical, and numerical methods, we obtain the quasinormal modes of the perturbed fields. Our findings reveal a set of discrete quasinormal modes for the thick brane, similar to those of black holes. Interestingly, when $n=1$, the quasinormal modes exhibit purely imaginary behavior. This study may provide a new way to detect the existence of extra dimensions.

In this work, we study the gravitational quasinormal modes of the thick brane in Rastall gravity. Using the asymptotic iteration and direct integration methods, we solve the quasinormal frequencies of the Rastall thick brane. We also obtained the waveforms of these quasinormal modes through numerical evolution. The results indicate that although the Rastall thick brane lacks a bound zero mode, when the Rastall parameter $\lambda\gtrsim0$, a long-lived quasinormal mode appears. This long-lived quasinormal mode may restore the four-dimensional effective Newtonian potential on the brane on a large scale. This may provide a new perspective for the localization of gravity on thick branes, that a thick brane does not necessarily require the gravity to be localized, perhaps quasi-localized is sufficient., Comment: 10 pages, 6 figures, and 1 table

From a five-dimensional Einstein-Maxwell theory, Bah et al. constructed a singularity free topology star/black hole [Phys. Rev. Lett. 126, 151101 (2021)]. After the Klein-Kluza reduction, i.e., integrating the extra space dimension, it can obtain an effective four-dimensional static spherical charged black hole with scalar hair. In this paper, we study the quasinormal modes (QNMs) of the scalar field, electromagnetic field, and gravitational field on the background of this effective four-dimensional charged black hole. The radial parts of the perturbed fields all satisfy a Schr\"{o}dinger-like equation. Using the asymptotic iteration method, we obtain the QNM frequencies semianalytically. For low overtone QNMs, the results obtained from the asymptotic iteration method and the Wentzel-Kramers-Brillouin approximation method agree well. In the null coordinates, the evolution of a Gaussian package is also studied. Recently, a static spherically symmetric black hole solution was found in gravity nonminimally coupled a background Kalb-Ramond field. The Lorentz symmetry is spontaneously broken when the Kalb-Ramond field has a nonvanishing vacuum expectation value. In this work, we focus on the quasinormal modes and greybody factor of this black hole. The master equations for the perturbed scalar field, electromagnetic field, and gravitational field can be written into a uniform form. We use three methods to solve the quasinormal frequencies in the frequency domain. The results agree well with each other. The time evolution of a Gaussian wave packet is studied. The quasinormal frequencies fitted from the time evolution data agree well with that of frequency domain. The greybody factor is calculated by Wentzel-Kramers-Brillouin (WKB) method. In this paper, we investigate the optical properties of a charged black hole with scalar hair (CSH) within the context of four-dimensional Einstein-Maxwell-Dilaton gravity. To achieve this, we consider three distinct toy models of thin accretion disks. The presence of dilaton coupling allows us to express both the solutions of CSH and the Reissner-Nordstr\"om (RN) black hole in terms of their mass ($M$) and charge ($Q$). Our findings reveal differences in the effective potentials $V_{eff}$, photon sphere radii $r_{ph}$, and innermost stable circular orbit $r_{isco}$ between the CSH and RN black hole cases, which become increasingly pronounced as the charge parameter $Q$ increases. However, no noticeable distinctions are observed concerning the critical impact parameter $b_{ph}$. When the ratio of the photon ring band and the lensed ring band exceeds 0.1, it may suggest the presence of a charged black hole with scalar hair. Furthermore, our results underscore the significant influence of the charge parameter $Q$ on the brightness distributions of the direct, lensed ring, and photon ring for three standard emission functions. These findings emphasize the potential for distinguishing between CSH and RN black holes through an analysis of direct intensity and peak brightness in specific accretion disk models., Comment: 13 pages, 13figures

In this paper, we study the influence of the parameters for the accelerating Kerr-Newman black hole on the shadows and the constraints, extensively. We find that the rotating parameter $a$, the charge parameter $e$, and the inclination angle $\theta_0$ affect the shadow qualitatively similar to that of Kerr-Newman black holes. The result shows that the size of the shadow will scale down with the accelerating factor $A$. Besides, the factor $A$ also can affect the best viewing angles, which make the observations maximum deviate from $\theta_0=\frac{\pi}{2}$, and the degree of the deviations are less than $1\%$. Then, we assume the M87* as an accelerating Kerr-Newman black hole with the mass $M=6.5\times10^9M_\odot$ and the distance $r_0=16.8Mpc$. Combining the EHT observations, we find that neither the observations, circularity deviation $\Delta C$ or axial ratio $D_x$ can distinguish the accelerating black hole or not. However, the characteristic areal-radius of the shadow curve $R_a$ can give corresponding constraints on the parameters of the accelerating Kerr-Newman black hole. The results shows that the bigger accelerating factor $A$ is, the stronger constraints on the rotating parameter $a$ and charged parameter $e$. {The maximum range of the accelerating factor is $Ar_0\leq0.558$ for a accelerating Schwarzschild case with $(a/M=e/M=0)$, and for an extremely slow accelerating case $(Ar_0\leq0.01)$, the ranges of rotating parameter $a$ and charged parameter $e$ are $a/M\in(0,1)$ and $e/M\in(0,0.9)$., Comment: 9 pages, 16figures

Stimulated by the recent researches of black hole thermodynamics for black hole with Newman-Unti-Tamburino (NUT) parameter, we investigate the thermodynamics and weak cosmic censorship conjecture for a Kerr-Newman Taub-NUT black hole. By defining the electric charge as a Komar integral over the event horizon, we construct a consistent first law of black hole thermodynamics for a Kerr-Newman Taub-NUT black hole through Euclidean action. Having the first law of black hole thermodynamics, we investigate the weak cosmic censorship conjecture for the black hole with a charged test particle and a complex scalar field. We find that an extremal black hole cannot be destroyed by a charged test particle and a complex scalar field. In this work, we investigate the gravitational quasinormal modes (QNMs) and the gravitational resonances of a thick brane model. We use the asymptotic iteration and shooting methods to obtain the quasinormal frequencies (QNFs) of the brane. On the other hand, we investigate the resonances and their evolution numerically. The results show that the oscillations of the resonances equal (up to numerical error) to the real parts of the QNFs, while the damping rates of the resonances equal to the imaginary parts of the QNFs. The QNMs and resonances, both of them can be regarded as the characteristic modes of the thick brane, are closely related with each other. We study the axial gravitational quasinormal modes of a self-dual black hole in loop quantum gravity. Considering the axial perturbation of the background spacetime, we obtain the Schr\"{o}dinger-like master equation. Then we calculate the quasinormal frequencies with the Wentzel-Kramers-Brillouin approximation and the asymptotic iteration method. We also investigate the numerical evolution of an initial wave packet on the self-dual black hole spacetime. We find the quantum correction parameter $P$ positively affects the absolute values of both the real and imaginary parts of quasinormal frequencies. We derive the relation between the parameters of the circular null geodesics and quasinormal frequencies in the eikonal limit for the self-dual black hole, and numerically verify this relation., Comment: 14 pages, 3 figures, 5 tables

From the quantum point of view, singularity should not exist. Recently, Bah and Heidmann constructed a five-dimensional singularity free topology star/black hole [Phys. Rev. Lett. 126, 151101 (2021)]. By integrating the extra dimension, a four-dimensional static spherical black hole with a magnetic charge and scalar hair can be obtained. In this paper, we study the quasinormal modes (QNMs) of the magnetic field and gravitational field on the background of this four-dimensional charged black hole with scalar hair. The odd parity of the gravitational perturbations couples with the even parity of the magnetic field perturbations. Two coupled second-order derivative equations are obtained. Using the matrix-valued direct integration method, we obtain the fundamental QNM frequencies numerically. The effect of the magnetic charge on the QNMs is studied. The differences of the frequencies of the fundamental QNMs between the charged black hole with scalar hair and the Reissner-Norstr\"{o}m black hole are very small for the angular number $l=2$. In this work, we investigate the quasinormal modes of a thick brane system. Considering the transverse-traceless tensor perturbation of the brane metric, we obtain the Schr\"odinger-like equation of the Kaluza-Klein modes of the tensor perturbation. Seeking singularity free solutions are important for further understanding black holes in quantum level. Recently, a five-dimensional singularity free black hole/topological star was constructed [Phys. Rev. Lett. 126, 151101 (2021)]. Through the Kaluza-Klein reduction, an effective four-dimensional static spherically symmetric charged black hole with scalar hair can be obtained. In this paper, we study shadow of this charged black hole with scalar hair in terms of four kinds of observers, i.e., static observers, surrounding observers, freely falling observers, and escaping observers in four-dimensional spacetime. For a spherically symmetric black hole, the shadow is circular for any observer, but the shadow size depends on the motion status of the observer. On the other hand, the effect of plasma is also investigated by a simple model. The radius of the photon sphere depends on the plasma model. In this work, we investigate numerical evolution of massive Kaluza-Klein (KK) modes of a scalar field in a thick brane. We derive the Klein-Gordon equation in five dimensional spacetime, and obtain the evolution equation and the Schr\"odinger-like equation. With the resonances of the scalar KK modes as the initial data, the scalar field is evolved with the maximally dissipative boundary condition. In this paper, we study the structure and gravitational resonances of thick branes generated by a mimetic scalar field in $f(R)$ gravity. We obtain several typical thick brane solutions for $f(R)=R+\alpha R^2$. To study their stability, we analyze the tensor perturbation of the metric. It is shown that any thick brane model with $df/dR>0$ is stable and the graviton zero mode can be localized on the brane for each solution, which indicates that the four-dimensional Newtonian gravity can be restored. The effect of the parameter $\alpha$ on the gravitational resonances is studied. As a brane splits into multi sub-branes, the effective potential of the tensor perturbation will have an abundant inner structure with multi-wells, and this will lead to new phenomena of the gravitational resonances., Comment: 16 pages, 26 figures

Gravitational-wave astronomy, together with precise pulsar timing and long baseline interferometry, is changing our ability to perform tests of fundamental physics with astrophysical observations. Some of these tests are based on electromagnetic probes or electrically charged bodies, and assume an empty universe. However, the cosmos is filled with plasma, a dilute medium which prevents the propagation of low-frequency, small-amplitude electromagnetic waves. We show that the plasma hinders our ability to perform some strong-field gravity tests, in particular: (i)~nonlinear plasma effects dramatically quench plasma-driven superradiant instabilities; (ii)~the contribution of electromagnetic emission to the inspiral of charged black hole binaries is strongly suppressed; (iii)~electromagnetic-driven secondary modes, although present in the spectrum of charged black holes, are excited to negligible amplitude in the gravitational-wave ringdown signal. In this work, we investigate the gravitational resonances in various $f(T)$-brane models with the warp factor $\text{e}^{A(y)}=\tanh\big(k(y+b)\big)-\tanh\big(k(y-b)\big)$. For three kinds of $f(T)$, we give the solutions to the system. Besides, we consider the tensor perturbation of vielbein and obtain the effective potentials by the Kaluza-Klein (KK) decomposition. Then, we analyze what kind of effective potential can produce the gravitational resonances. Effects of different parameters on the gravitational resonances are analysed. The lifetimes of the resonances could be long enough as the age of our universe in some ranges of the parameters. This indicates that the gravitational resonances might be considered as one of the candidates of dark matter. It is known that a five-dimensional free vector field $A_{M}$ cannot be localized on Randall-Sundrum (RS)-like thick branes, namely, the thick branes embedded in asymptotic Anti-de Sitter (AdS) spacetime. In order to localize a vector field on the RS-like thick brane, an extra coupling term should be introduced. In this paper, we generalize the geometrical coupling mechanism by adding two mass terms ($\alpha Rg^{MN}A_{M}A_{N}+\beta R^{MN}A_{M}A_{N}$) into the action. We decompose the fundamental vector field $A_{M}$ into three parts: transverse vector part $\hat{A}_{\mu}$, scalar parts $\phi$ and $A_{5}$. Then, we find that the transverse vector part $\hat{A}_{\mu}$ decouples from the scalar parts. In order to eliminate the tachyonic modes of $\hat{A}_{\mu}$, the two coupling parameters $\alpha$ and $\beta$ should satisfy a relation. Combining the restricted condition, we can get a combination parameter as $\gamma=\frac{3}{2}\pm\sqrt{1+12\alpha}$. Only if $\gamma>1/2$, the zero mode of $\hat{A}_{\mu}$ can be localized on the RS-like thick brane. We also investigate the resonant character of the vector part $\hat{A}_{\mu}$ for the general RS-like thick brane with the warp factor $A(z)=-\ln(1+k^2z^2)/2$ by choosing the relative probability method. The result shows that, only for $\gamma>3$, the massive resonant Kaluza-Klein modes can exist. The number of resonant Kaluza-Klein states increases with the combination parameter $\gamma$, and the lifetime of the first resonant state can be long enough as the age of our universe. In this work, we investigate gravitational resonances in both single and double mimetic thick branes, which can provide a new way to detect the extra dimension. For the single brane model, we apply the relative probability proposed in [Phys. Rev. D. 80 (2009) 065019]. For the double brane model, we investigate the resonances quasi-localized on the double brane, on the sub-branes and between the sub-branes, respectively. To investigate the resonances quasi-localized on the double brane, we introduce two different definitions of the relative probability and find that the corresponding mass spectra of gravitational resonances are almost the same. For the gravitational resonances quasi-localized on sub-branes and between the sub-branes, the influence of the distance between the two sub-branes and the thickness of the sub-branes are analyzed and new features are found in both cases., Comment: 19 pages, 13 figures

We apply the mimetic $f(T)$ theory into the thick brane model. We take the Lagrange multiplier formulation of the action and get the corresponding field equations of motion. We find solutions for different kinds of $f(T)$. Besides, we investigate the stability of the mimetic $f(T)$ brane by considering the tensor perturbations of the vielbein. Localization problem is also studied and it is shown that the four-dimensional gravity can be recovered for all the solutions. The effects of the torsion show that for the polynomial form of $f(T)$, the zero mode has a split compared with that of $f(T)=T$, but the situations for the exponential form of $f(T)$ are similar to that of $f(T)=T$., Comment: 7 pages, 6 figures

The scalar particle production through a scalar field non-minimally coupled with geometry is investigated in the context of a spatially homogeneous and isotropic universe. In this paper, in order to study the evolution of particle production over time in the case of analytical solutions, we focus on a simple Horndeski theory. We first suppose that the universe is dominated by a scalar field and derive the energy conservation condition. Then from the thermodynamic point of view, the macroscopic non-conservation of the scalar field energy-momentum tensor can be explained as an irreversible production of the scalar particles. Based on the explanation, we obtain a scalar particle production rate and the corresponding entropy. Finally, since the universe, in general, could be regarded as a closed system satisfying the laws of thermodynamics, we naturally impose some thermodynamic constraints on it. In this paper we investigate the innermost stable circular orbit (ISCO) for a classical spinning test particle in the background of Kerr-Newman black hole. It is shown that the orbit of the spinning particle is related to the spin of the test particle. The motion of the spinning test particle will be superluminal if its spin is too large. We give an additional condition by considering the superluminal constraint for the ISCO in the black hole backgrounds. We obtain numerically the relations between the ISCO and the properties of the black holes and the test particle. It is found that the radius of the ISCO for a spinning test particle is smaller than that of a non-spinning test particle in the black hole backgrounds., Comment: 9 pages, 9 figures

The Born-Infeld $f(T)$ theory is reduced from the Born-Infeld determinantal gravity in Weitzenb\"ock spacetime. We investigate a braneworld scenario in this theory and obtain an analytic domain wall solution by utilizing the first-order formalism. The model is stable against the linear tensor perturbation. It is shown that the massless graviton is localized on the brane, but the continuous massive gravitons are non-localized and will generate a tiny correction with the behavior of ${1}/{(k r)^{3}}$ to the Newtonian potential. The four-dimensional teleparallel gravity is recovered as an effective infrared theory on the brane. In order to localize fermions on branes with codimension one, one usually introduces the Yukawa coupling between fermions and background scalar fields or the recently proposed derivative fermion-scalar coupling in [Phys. Rev. D 89 (2014) 086001]. In this paper, we explore the coupling between a spinor field $\Psi$ and the scalar curvature of spacetime $R$, $\eta\Psi\Gamma^M\partial_M F(R)\gamma^5\bar{\Psi}$ with $F(R)$ a function of $R$, to investigate localization of the fermion. Because of $Z_2$ symmetry of the extra dimension, the new coupling mechanism proposed here can easily deal with the problem encountered in the Yukawa coupling with even background scalar fields. More importantly, the new mechanism will also work for the branes without background scalar fields. It is known that there are two mechanisms for localizing a bulk fermion on a brane, one is the well-known Yukawa coupling and the other is the new coupling proposed in [Phys. Rev. D 89, 086001 (2014)]. In this paper, we investigate localization and resonance spectrum of a bulk fermion on the same branes with the two localization mechanisms. It is found that both the two mechanisms can result in a volcano-like effective potential of the fermion Kaluza-Klein modes. The left-chiral fermion zero mode can be localized on the brane and there exist some discrete massive fermion Kaluza-Klein modes that quasilocalized on the brane (also called fermion resonances). We explore the tensor perturbation of the $f(T)$ brane embedded in an AdS$_5$ spacetime. With the transverse-traceless condition, we get the tensor perturbation equation of the $f(T)$ brane and show that the stability of this brane system can be ensured.
