Abstract

Passivating contacts based on a thin silicon oxide/doped polysilicon stack and activated during a high temperature process (polySi) are increasingly adopted in industry thanks to their compatibility with mainstream solar cell processing and high-performance potential. Efficiencies above 25.2% have been shown for n-type poySi as a carrier selective contact integrated at the rear side of PERT-like solar cells by solar cell manufacturers [1]. At this point, single-sided deposition and doping combined with direct metallization are critical towards the industrialization of polySi-based solar cells. Herein, it will be shown how sputtering can be a high-throughput, low-cost solution for n-type polySi deposition. The compatibility of sputtered polySi layers with direct metallization is demonstrated. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

International audience; Atmospheric pressure plasma jets are non-thermal plasmas and have the ability to create reactive species. These features make it a very attractive tool for biomedi-cal applications. In this work, we studied NO and N 2 O production, which are two species having biomedical properties. NO plays a role in the vascularization and in ulcer treatment, while N 2 O is used as anesthetic and analgesic gas. In this study, the plasma source is similar to the COST Reference Microplasma Jet (–APPJ). Helium is used as feed gas with small admixtures of molecular nitrogen and oxygen of below 1%. The absolute densities of NO and N 2 O were measured in the effluent of an atmospheric pressure RF plasma jet by means of ex-situ quantum-cascade laser absorption spectroscopy via a multi-pass cell in Herriot configuration. We will show that the species' production is dependent on several parameters such as power, flow and oxygen and nitrogen admixture. The NO and N 2 O densities are strongly dependent on the N 2-O 2 ratio. Changing this ratio allows for choosing between a NO-rich or a N 2 O-rich regime [1]. [1] Douat et al, PSST, 25 (2016) 025027

14. Towards poly-diagnostics on cool atmospheric plasmas

Abstract

A route toward the experimental characterization of Cool Atmospheric Plasmas (CAPs) is described. It is a step-by-step approach, in which, for each step different experimental techniques are compared with each others. These can be divided in passive and active spectroscopic methods. It is seen that especially the passive methods for the electron temperature determination are very sensitive to the degree of equilibrium departure suggesting that active spectroscopy is preferable. However, one should realize that lasers can easily heat cool plasmas. Abstract

The large effluxes generated by high-tech plasmas force plasmas to non-equilibrium conditions. This implies that plasma features are decoupled from each other and that therefore different methods have to be used quasi-simultaneously to characterize the plasma. Even more insight in plasmas and methods is obtained if polydiagnostics is applied to a series of plasma conditions that gradually differ in equilibrium departure. After discussing methods of passive and active spectroscopy, we apply polydiagnostics on an argon plasma operated in open air. By introducing H 2 and reducing the power we approach conditions of cool atmospheric plasmas (CAPs). It is seen that especially the passive methods for the electron temperature determination are very sensitive to the degree of equilibrium departure suggesting that active spectroscopy is preferable. Abstract

This study assess the decay of a power-pulsed microwave plasma in argon mixtures using time resolved Thomson scattering. In argon at intermediate pressure, i.e. tens of mbar, the electron temperature decays very fast after power off and approaches the heavy particle temperature, while the electron density decays slower, in the order of tens of microseconds. Argon with small admixtures of O2 or H2 exhibits a similar behavior. However, strikingly different is the result for small additions of N2 or CO2. For up to 100 μs after the power is switched off, the electron temperature does not decrease to the gas temperature but remains at values as high as 0.8 eV. Nitrogen and carbon dioxide exhibit relatively large cross-sections to excite vibrational states by electron collisions. Knowing that, the observed post-heating can be attributed to super-elastic energy transfer from vibrational excited N2(X) and CO2(X) molecules to electrons. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
