The interactions of some microorganisms and microbial metabolites with the mineral surface are still being studied thanks to biotechnological advances. Studies on the usability of such microorganisms and metabolites in flotation are gradually increasing due to their potential to be eco-friendlier and more cost-effective alternatives. The primary goal of this research was to compare the ability of surfactin for magnesite-quartz separation as a collector in selective magnesite bioflotation to the results of classical flotation using oleate. In the experimental study, statistical experimental design methods were used. Mathematical models of the processes were created and also Gaudin selectivity indexes were calculated for both reagents. The feed, which contains approximately 19.70% SiO2, was cleaned with surfactin through one-stage magnesite flotation, reducing the silicate content to as low as 4.77%. Moreover, the efficiency and selectivity of magnesite flotation are retained by using surfactin even at high collector amounts and relatively low temperatures, unlike oleate. The novelty of this study was to determine the surfactin’s applicability in magnesite-quartz separation in selective magnesite bioflotation. Bioflotation studies have shown that magnesite can be selectively floated from an ore containing magnesite and quartz. Considering that the feed contains approximately 19.7% SiO2, the ore was cleaned four times with surfactin using one-stage magnesite bioflotation, and the silicate content was reduced to as low as 4.77%.

The depletion of high-grade ore deposits, as well as the generation of large quantities of tailings by mining and metallurgical activities, necessitates an urgent search for not only more cost-effective, but also more eco-friendly methods of recovering minerals from low-grade deposits and secondary resources. Research in the bioflotation process appears to be an answer to this search, thanks to the contribution of the microbial world. This study constitutes the first systematic and the most comprehensive review on bioflotation. The bioflotation studies in the literature were examined in a certain chronological order and by classifying the reagents in terms of both their origin and their use in flotation. Aside from the benefits of bioreagents to the mining industry, the review attempted to reveal the issues that prevent the transition to industrial application. This review aims to raise awareness of future research opportunities for mining and biology researchers while also presenting current bioflotation studies.

Objective: Oral pathological lesions in the mouth vary greatly. However, few studies have evaluated these lesions with long-term data. This study aimed to analyze the demographic parameters (i.e., age, gender, anatomical location, and incidence) of oral pathologies in the Aegean Region. Materials and Methods: In this retrospective study, histopathological reports of 30 years in the Department of Oral Pathology, Faculty of Dentistry, Ege University, were analyzed. Data on sex, age, lesion location, and histopathologic diagnosis were analyzed. Results: The histopathological data of 6,330 patients were evaluated. Most of the pathological oral lesions were osseous lesions (n=3,858), and 2,472 soft tissue pathologies were identified. The posterior mandible was the most common location of these lesions (n=2,011). Conclusion: Determining the variety and frequency of oral pathological lesions at a societal level is important for the management of these lesions.

There are various distal locking options for the repair of tibia distal diametaphyseal fractures with intramedullary nails. There is no consensus about the superiority of any of these distal locking options. In our study, comparing nails with distal bolt locking screw (DSBLS) and conventional nails; we aimed to compare the clinical and radiological results of intramedullary nail models in fixing tibial distal diametaphyseal fractures.In our orthopedics and traumatology department, 117 tibial distal diametaphyseal fractures of 116 patients treated with intramedullary nails between August 2007 and May 2015 were retrospectively evaluated. Forty-six tibial distal diametaphyseal fractures of 45 patients who came to regular visits to outpatient clinic controls and who had a minimum follow-up of 18 months and whose fracture distance was between 3 and 12 cm were included in the study. The average follow-up period of the study group consisting of 28 males and 17 females with an average age of 44 (16-76 years) which was 48 months (18-100 months). The group using the DSBLS locking intramedullary nail was considered the first group and the group using the conventional distal locking intramedullary nail was considered the second group. Radiological union times, coronal, sagittal, and axial plan angulations and malunion presence were com-pared between the two groups. In addition, the two groups were compared clinically with length of time spent on weight-bearing and return to work, Olerud-Molander ankle score, and American Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Society Score scores.We found that the first group was superior in terms of length of time spent on partial and full weight-bearing between the two groups (p=0.00031 and p=0.00007). In addition, the union time of the first group was shorter (p=0.0149). Other radiological or clinical results did not differ significantly between the two groups. In addition, no significant correlation was found between the distance of the fracture from the tibial plate and its angulation. In cases with malunion alone, the fracture line was more distal than those without malunion (p=0.0411).Newly developed DSBLS intramedullary nails give as good results as conventional nails in tibia distal diametaphyseal fractures. Due to its ability to loading bone early and have a shorter union time, DSBLS can be safely preferred in distal diametaphyseal fractures and reduce complications from immobilization.

Objectives the aim of this study was to compare the anesthetic efficacy, the duration of anesthesia, and the postoperative analgesia of lidocaine and bupivacaine and to determine any difference in hemodynamic parameters in patients who required impacted third molar removal. Materials and methods Thirty-eight patients between the ages of 18 and 40, with no systemic disease, were included in the study, with an indication of impacted lower third molar extraction. One of two local anesthetic agents (Marcaine and Jetokain Simplex) was randomly selected for tooth extractions. the parameters evaluated were the onset of anesthetic agent action, the duration of operation, the duration of postoperative analgesia, and postoperative visual analog scale scores. Hemodynamic parameters were observed and evaluated preoperatively and during the operation. All data were evaluated statistically. Results When the time of anesthesia onset was analyzed according to both anesthetic solutions, the difference was in favor of lidocaine (p = 0.01). the duration of action was longer in the bupivacaine group than in the lidocaine group (p = 0.00002). VAS values for the pain obtained during injection were lower in the lidocaine group (p = 0.009).However, according to the results of our study, the postoperative analgesic efficacy of bupivacaine is similar to that of lidocaine (p = 0.087). Conclusion After evaluation of these results, we can recommend the use of lidocaine and bupivacaine safely in dentistry practice. Geleneksel yontemler ile enerji uretimindeki sinirlamalar ve cevresel kaygilar neticesinde, yenilenebilir enerjiye dogru hizli bir yonelim gerceklesmektedir. Yenilenebilir enerji santrallerinin kurulumu ve isletme esnasindaki verimliligi acisindan, yerlerinin secimi buyuk onem tasimaktadir. Bu yuzden tesisler ruzgar, gunes, dalga gibi bulunduklari bolgenin ozelliklerini kullanarak dogrudan elektrik uretmektedir. Yenilenebilir enerji santrallerinin en yayginlarindan biri ise gunes enerjisi santralleridir (GES). GES’lerin yerlerinin belirlenmesi icin literaturde klasik ve bulanik mantiga dayanan bircok yontem kullanilmistir. Bu calismada, klasik mantiga ve bulanik mantiga dayanan iki farkli yontemin analizi ile Izmir’in Menemen ilcesi icin GES uygunluk haritasi olusturulmasi amaclanmistir. Objective: The purpose of this study is to determine the bony healing of giant odontogenic cysts which underwent conventional surgical operations without using any supplementary bone filling materials. Treatment of choice for large cysts depends on the size and location of the lesion (its approximity to vital structures), the patient’s age and dention. Material and Methods: Twenty patients who were referred to Ege University School of Dentistry, Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery between 1999 and 2010 for surgical operation of their giant cystic lesions were enrolled. All patients were treated under local anesthesia using standard materials and conventional surgical methods. None of the patients had bone resection as the treatment of choice and no bone filling biomaterials were utilized throughout the treatment. All cysts were subjected to histological examination after fixation in a 10% formalin solution. The final diagnoses after histological examination are reported. Results: Histological diagnoses of the giant cystic lesions revealed one radicular (5%), one residual (5%) and 18 dentigerous (90%) cysts of the jaws. The radiographic findings were analyzed in 24 months. During recall examinations, none of the patients showed postoperative complications and cystic lesions revealed considerable or complete bone healing. Conclusion: Rather than jaw resection, a well-planned conservative surgical approach following careful evaluation, meticulous treatment planning and close follow-up of patients may be preferred for treatment of giant cystic lesions., Amaç: Bu çalışmanın amacı, herhangi bir kemik greft materyali kullanılmadan konvansiyonel cerrahi operasyon ile tedavi edilmiş büyük odontojenik kistlerin kemik iyileşmesini belirlemektir. Geniş kistlerin tedavi seçenekleri kistin genişliğine, lokalizasyonuna, hastanın yaşına ve dentisyonuna göre değişmektedir. Gereç ve Yöntemler: 1999-2010 yılları arasında büyük odontojenik kistik lezyonlarının cerrahi operasyonu için Ege Üniversitesi Diş Hekimliği Fakültesi Ağız Diş ve Çene Cerrahisi Anabilim Dalı'na başvuran, aynı yöntem uygulanan 20 hasta çalışmaya alındı. Tüm hastalar lokal anestezi altında standart cerrahi yöntemler kullanılarak tedavi edildi. Hastalarda kemik rezeksiyonu uygulanmadı ve tedavi boyunca biyomateryal kullanılmadı. Tüm kistler %10'luk formalin çözeltisinde fiksasyon sonrası histolojik incelemeye tabi tutuldu. Histolojik inceleme sonrası kesin tanı bildirildi. Bulgular: Histolojik olarak bir radiküler (%5), bir rezidüel (%5) ve 18 dentijeröz (%90) kist tanısı koyuldu, 24 ay sonra radyolojik muayeneleri yapıldı. Kontrol muayeneleri sırasında hastalarda ameliyat sonrası komplikasyon görülmedi ve kistik lezyonlarda önemli derecede veya tam bir kemik iyileşmesi görüldü. Sonuç: Çene rezeksiyonu yerine, dikkatli değerlendirme, titiz tedavi planlaması ve hastaların yakın takibinden sonra iyi planlanmış konservatif cerrahi yaklaşım, büyük kistik lezyonların tedavisinde tercih edilebilir.

Coal continues to be a significant source of energy in the world. It is very important to utilize this energy source as much as possible, to operate unutilized loss reserves due to its characteristics. In this context, the necessity to continue studying on clean coal technologies was emphasized in terms of sustainability in energy production and its use, safety and environmental issues. Since approximately 50% of total coal deposits of the world are low rank, it is required to clean them by implementing different and efficient technologies to improve the utilization of low-rank coals. This review summarized the importance of clean coal technology, biological treatments until now, recent advances and future trends in coal biobeneficiation technologies as energy-conserving and environmentally friendly processes. Finally, in light of the data obtained from all studies, the basic steps for the possible use of biocleaning methods in industrial scale are also summarized in this review.

Biological desulphurization is a good option because of simple equipment, easy operation, and low cost advantages. In this study, biodesulphurization of low rank lignites having high ash and sulphur content was investigated through a drum reactor using Alternaria sp. fungus which provided high removal of sulphur at erlen scale in our previous study. Designing of experiments, analysing of experimental results, creating the mathematical models and optimization of conditions were performed using Central Composite Design Method. Experimental work resulted in about 20% sulphur removal, about 21% ash removal and about 42% reduction in sulphur emission values. Analyses showed that both pyritic (17% removal) and organic sulphur (about 19% removal) were reduced. Besides, after biotreatment, FTIR, SEM-EDS, TGA-DTA analysis as well as volatile matter and major oxide analysis were carried out. Furthermore, data for increasing sulphur removal in drum type bioreactor and moving to larger scale by enhancing solid ratio were provided.

WOS: 000392774000020, In this study, first, the physicochemical cleaning of Cayirhan region's low-quality lignites was investigated by flotation to reduce ash content. In the flotation experiments, the effects of collector dosage, frother dosage, dispersant dosage, pulp density and air flow rate on ash content and combustible recovery in the concentrate fraction were optimized. Flotation tests were designed with Box Behnken design (BBD) which is a response surface method (RSM). The effective parameters and their interactions in lignite flotation are described with a mathematical model. After physicochemical cleaning, further desulfurization studies were carried out through biological treatment. Alternaria sp. Cf1 strain which was isolated from the same region lignites was used in microbial treatment for desulfurization studies. Sulfur emission values (EV) of studied sample, flotation and microbial treatment's concentrates were calculated and compared. WOS: 000403391500011, PubMed ID: 27976992, In this study, solid wastes taken from Seyitomer coal-fired power plant bottom ashes were subjected to experimental research to obtain a carbon-rich fraction. The possible recycling opportunities of remaining inorganic fraction in the cement and concrete industry was also investigated. Flotation technique was used to separate unburned carbon from inorganic bottom ashes. Collector type, collector, dispersant and frother amounts, and pulp density are the most important variables in the flotation technique. A number of flotation collectors were tested in the experiments including new era flotation reactives. Optimum collector, dispersant and frother dosages as well as optimum pulp density were also determined. After experimental work, an inorganic fraction was obtained, which included 5.41% unburned carbon with 81.56% weight yield. These properties meets the industrial specifications for the cement and concrete industry. The carbon content of the concentrate fraction, obtained in the same experiment, was enhanced to 49.82%. This fraction accounts for 18.44% of the total amount and can be mixed to the power plant fuel. Therefore total amount of the solid waste can possibly be recycled according to experimental results.

Topical hemostatic agents are usually required to control bleeding in these cases, as an adjunct to systemic measures of hemostasis. The aims of this randomized, prospective, single-blind clinical study are twofold. The primary aim is to compare the hemostatic efficacy of chitosan and surgicel in patients with cirrhosis after a tooth extraction, and the secondary aim is to assess the value of the current setting as a clinical model of post-operative bleeding following minor oral surgery. Material and Methods: Fifty patients with cirrhosis scheduled for a tooth extraction under local anesthesia were prospectively included in the study in a randomized fashion. Patients were blinded to the treatment group they were in. The cirrhosis classification, bleeding time, trauma score, and corrected bleeding time (during post-operative reviews) were recorded. Statistical evaluations were done. Results: Study groups had an equal number of teeth extractions (40 teeth each). There were no statistically significant differences between the groups with respect to patient demographics, cirrhosis classification, trauma score, and bleeding time. No side effects were noted. Conclusion: Both Celox and Surgicel are effective for controlling bleeding and are safe after a tooth extraction in patients with cirrhosis.

Management of these cases involve conservative and surgical treatment options. Minimally invasive surgical procedures namely arthrocentesis and arthroscopy are promising techniques in the management of internal derangement. However patient selection algorithms, indications for minimally invasive procedures and details of the techniques should be further studied for safe and cost effective management of these cases. This manuscript aims to retrospectively analyze the significance of a stepped surgical treatment approach (arthrocentesis under local anaesthesia as the first line of treatment, followed by arthroscopic lysis and lavage under general anaesthesia in unresolving cases) of internal derangement with or without osteoarthritis. Methods: This is a retrospective cohort study. Case notes of 1414 patients that were managed with a standard protocol were reviewed. Appropriate inclusion and exclusion criteria were set. Thirty-three patients were eligible for inclusion. Parameters recorded were pain-free inter-incisal opening, spontaneous pain, pain on function, difficulty on chewing, and perceived disability on jaw movements. Pre-operative and post-operative (at the end of the follow up period) pain free maximum interincisal opening values were compared with paired t test and the subjective parameters were evaluated with Chisquare analysis. Treatment outcome and success rate according to American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons were descriptively shown. Results: Interincisal opening values increased, and the number of patients with severe or medium rated subjective parameters were reduced at discharge. These improvements were found to be statistically significant. Clinical (Wilkes) staging of internal derangement pre-operatively and at discharge remained either unchanged or was lower. Treatment outcome and success according to American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons criteria was 94%. Conclusion: The stepped approach for the management of symptomatic internal derangement with or without osteoarthritis is a successful treatment strategy with favourable therapeutic outcomes., national health insurance, All treatment costs were covered by national health insurance that had no role in collection, analysis, and interpretation of data and in writing the manuscript.

GİRİŞ ve AMAÇ: Bisfosfonatlar genellikle menapoz sonrası, kortikosteroidin artırdığı osteoporoz, Paget hastalığı, malinite ve osteolizis ile ilişkili hiperkalsemi ve metastatik kemik hastalıkları tedavisinde kullanılır. Bifosfonata bağlı osteonekroz çene (BRONJ), osteomiyelit, nekrotik kemiğin açığa çıkması gibi ciddi ağız komplikasyonlarına yol açabilir. Dişhekimleri bu komplikasyonların farkında olmalıdır ve defektli osteoklast fonksiyonu, azalmış kemik dokusu vasküleritesi nedeniyle yara iyileşmesinde bozukluğa neden olan bu ilacın tedavisini gören hasta grubunda gerekli özeni göstermelidir. YÖNTEM ve GEREÇLER: Bu çalışma, kanser hastalarında görülen BRONJ'un retrospektif bir araştırmasıdır. Analiz edilen veriler yaş, cinsiyet, sebep olan hastalık, tıbbi ve diş hikayesi, bifosfonatlar (BP) türünü içermektedir. BRONJ tanısı konan hastalarımızın lokal ve sistemik risk faktörleri, klinik ve radyolojik bulguları, tedavi stratejileri değerlendirildi. BULGULAR: En yaygın klinik osteonekroz bulguları, mandibularda enfeksiyon ve nekrotik kemik idi. İlişkili olaylar arasında diş çekimi, enfeksiyon ve travma yer alıyordu. Cerrahi müdahale, antibiyotik tedavisi, hiperbarik oksijen tedavisi ve topikal ağız gargaraların kullanımına rağmen bazı lezyonlar tedaviye iyi yanıt vermedi. İnatçı enfeksiyonu olan hastalar yeniden ameliyat edildi veya palyatif tedavi başlandı. Diş problemi olan hastalar, bu ilaçların başlamasından önce diş hekimliğinde bakım altına alınmalıdır, INTRODUCTION: Bisphosphonates are commonly prescribed for the treatment of postmenopausal and corticosteroid induced osteoporosis, Paget’s disease, hypercalcemia associated with malignancy and osteolysis, associated with metastatic bone disease.Bisphosphonate-related osteonecrosis of jaw (BRONJ) may result in serious oral complication, such as osteomyelitis and chronic exposure of necrotic bone. Dentists must be familiar with this disorder and pay special attention to all patients on bisphosphonate therapy. METHODS: This was a retrospective review of BRONJ in cancer patients. Data analyzed included age, sex, underlying disease,medical and dental history, bisphosphonates(BP) types.Local and systemic risk factors, clinical and radiographic findings, treatment strategies of treatment of our patients who are diagnosed to have BRONJ are evaluated. RESULTS: The most common clinical osteonecrosis presentations included infection and necrotic bone in the mandible. Associated events included dental extraction infection and trauma. Despite surgical intervention antibiotic therapy hyperbaric oxygen therapy and topical use of chemotherapeutic mouth rinses, some of lesions did not respond well to therapy. Patients with persistent infection were re-operated or palliative treatment was started. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION: Before initiation of a bisphosphonate, patients should have a comprehensive dental examination. Patients with a challenging dental stiuation should have dental care attended to before initiation of these drugs

8th International Mineral Processing Symposium (IMPS-2000) -- OCT 16-18, 2000 -- MIDDLE E TECH UNIV, DEPT MIN ENGN, ANTALYA, TURKEY, WOS: 000166171300073, In this work, samples from tailing ponds of TKI Alpagut-Dodurga Lignites Company Coal Washery were subjected to extensive research to recover clean fine coal particles, by means of gravity methods. The optimum conditions of separation were determined under the laboratory conditions by using shaking tables and Multi-Gravity Separator. Several parameters, thought to be effective on the separation were tested. After the shaking table experiments clean coal products, containing 13.52 % ash with 50.16 % combustible recovery and 16.78 % ash with 53.12 % combustible recovery were obtained at -3.0+0.6 and -0.6+0.3 mm fractions, respectively. After the investigations carried out by Multi-Gravity Separator, clean coal fractions, containing 20.53 % ash with 83.94 % combustible recovery and 25.58 % ash with 88.39 % combustible recovery were obtained at -0.3+0.15 and -0.15+0.05 mm fractions, respectively. Cleaning stage experiments were conducted on the -0.15+0.05 mm fraction and ash percentage of the clean coal was reduced down to 17.39 % with 63.08 % combustible recovery according to head sample.

Background/aim The decision to retain or extract teeth in the line of mandibular fractures has been a subject of debate in the scientific literature, and there is a need for further evidence to clear this issue. Thus, the aim of this study was to investigate the effects on healing of teeth in the line of mandibular fractures in order to contribute to the field. Material and methods The case notes of 100 patients with teeth in the line of 106 mandibular fractures were reviewed. Open reduction and rigid internal fixation (ORIF) was used if elastic intermaxillary reduction failed to achieve a satisfactory occlusion and/or anatomical reduction in the fragments as assessed by orthopantomogram (OPG) and clinical examination. The remaining cases had maxillomandibular fixation (MMF) with an arch bar and bridle wire. Results Three of the 106 teeth involved in the fracture lines healed with complications. In the cases where the teeth had been removed prior to fracture treatment, or in cases of delayed extractions, no complications were noted. Conclusion The factors which should be considered for removal include the condition of the teeth and alveolar bone, the timing and the type of treatment. This decision should be made on an individual basis considering potential risks to avoid complications.

Dental anxiety is usually seen in the pediatric patients. specially in the case of minor oral surgical procedures and exodontia, cooperation of the patients and their families with the dentist will lead to superior treatment outcomes. Pain control is important in dentistry. The aim of this randomized prospective clinical study is to compare the local anaesthetic and haemodynamic effects of 2% lidocaine (Group 1) and 3% mepivacaine (Group 2) in sedated pediatric patients undergoing primary tooth extraction. Study design: 60 pediatric patients undergoing sedation for elective primary tooth extraction was prospectively included in the study in a randomized fashion. Inclusion and exlusion criteria were assigned. Patients were given premedication via oral route. Local anesthesia was achieved before extraction(s). Results: There were no significant differences between the groups in patient demographics, number of teeth extracted, duration of the operation and time from the end of the procedure to discharge (p≯0.05). FLACC pain scale scores were not statistically significant between the groups, except at 20 minutes post-operatively when the score is significantly lower in Group 2 (p=0.029). Conclusion: Prevention of pain during dental procedures can nurture the relationship of the patient and dentist. Tooth extraction under sedation in pediatric patients could be safe with both local anesthetics.

WOS: 000336669500021, In this work, physical, physicochemical and biological processes were combined to decrease the sulfur and ash content of finely ground coal. Two separation methods - flotation and a multigravity separator (MGS) - were studied to determine the optimum conditions of separation. The results showed that it is possible to obtain clean lignite that contains 34.36% ash and has a 77.39% combustible recovery by using MGS and 39.22% ash with a 37.38% combustible recovery by using flotation techniques. Marginal bone level is a criterion for implant success. The aetiological factors of bone loss have not been clarified. The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of implant systems and prosthetic materials on the marginal bone loss. Twenty-three patients participated; two implant systems and three superstructure materials were used in this study. Twenty-two of the implants were restored with porcelain fused to base metal alloy (BMA), 25 with porcelain fused to noble metal alloy (NMA) and 20 with zirconium oxide-based ceramics. Radiographs were taken at baseline and 3, 6 and 12 months after loading. Crestal bone-level changes were assessed with digital subtraction radiographs. The effects of superstructure materials and implants were evaluated with one-way anova and independent samples t-test, respectively (α = 0·05). The mean crestal bone loss was found 0·483 mm in 3 months, 0·622 mm in 6 months and 0·816 mm in 12 months. Prosthetic materials were found to have greater effect (β = 0·575, P = 0·015) on crestal bone loss than implant systems (P > 0·05). The porcelain fused to BMA restorations showed higher crestal bone loss than NMA-based restorations (P = 0·003) at 3 months, (P = 0·038), at 6 months and (P = 0·00) at 12 months; however, crestal bone loss differences between NMA and zirconia were not significant (P = 0·629) at 3 months, (P = 0·974) at 6 months and (P = 1) at 12 months. Within the limitations of this study, our results revealed that rather than the implant systems, prosthetic materials seemed to have an effective role on crestal bone.

This article reports a clinical case of a 8-year-old boy, who underwent an avulsion of the upper left central incisor. The avulsed tooth was kept in the oral cavity in direct contact with saliva for 5 h from the moment of trauma until its replantation. Treatment guidelines for avulsed mature permanent teeth were followed. The clinical and radiographic findings after 2 years revealed absence of root resorption, ankylosis or mobility of the replanted tooth.

We have evaluated radiographic changes in mandibular bone texture before and after surgical therapies using fractal analysis and digital subtraction radiography (DSR). Preoperative and postoperative panoramic radiographs of 10 patients were acquired and converted into digital format. The procedures for calculating the fractal dimension (FD) were performed using Image J 1.38x software, and the mean gray values (MGVs) for digital subtraction were implemented using newly developed software (RAIN). Data were analyzed statistically with the paired t-test and Pearson’s correlation test. The differences between the FD values (p = 0.0019) and between the MGVs (p = 0.0181) of the preoperative and postoperative images were statistically significant; the correlation did not reach statistical significance, however (p > 0.05). FD analyses and DSR application are proposed for quantitative determination of bone changes. Further studies are planned to provide a more detailed evaluation of these methods.

WOS: 000266056400009, PubMed ID: 19443646, The separation of unburned carbon from coal-fired power plant bottom ashes was conducted in order to increase the possibility of the recycling of coal combustion wastes. A two-stage flotation technique was used for this study. In the rougher flotation experiments the amounts of collector, dispersant and frother, pulp density, pH, particle size distribution, flotation time and flotation temperature were tested as variables. After rougher flotation experiments, at optimum conditions, the carbon content of the concentrate increased from 13.85 to 51.54% at a carbon recovery of 54.54%. Under the same conditions, the carbon content was reduced to 4.54% at a weight yield of over 80% in the tailings fraction. This fraction meets the industrial specifications and can be utilized as a cement additive. After the cleaner flotation experiment the carbon content of the product was enhanced to 64.81% with a 52.16% carbon recovery. This fraction can be blended back into the coal feed to the power plant boilers.

Bisfosfonata bağlı osteonekroz (BRONJ), bisfosfonat kullanan ve radyoterapi ya da ilgili kemik hastalığı hikayesi olmayan hastalarda, 8 haftadan uzun süren ve çene kemiğinin açığa çıktığı bir yumuşak doku yarasıdır. Güncel araştırmalar hastalığın patogenezi, çeşitli konservatif ve cerrahi tedavi yöntemler ve bunların klinik sonuçları üzerine yoğunlaşmıştır. Biz bu retrospektif çalışmada, 4 yıllık bir periyotta (2010-2014) BRONJ tanısı almış hastaların dosyalarını gözden ge- çirip, ilgili verileri toplayarak, BRONJ olgularının kliniğimizdeki yönetimini değerlendirmeyi amaç- ladık. Gereç ve Yöntemler: Bu çalışmaya, Amerikan Oral ve Maksillofasiyal Cerrahi Derneği tarafından yayınlanmış olan kılavuz ilkelere göre tanısı kesinleşmiş 70 BRONJ hastası dahil edilmiştir. Hastalığın evreleri ve her birinin tedavisi ile ilgili kantitatif ve kalitatif parametreler incelenmiştir. Veriler istatistiksel olarak incelenmiş ve tanımlayıcı olarak sunulmuştur. Bulgular: Defektlerin çoğunda, yumuşak ve sert dokularda tekrarlayan enfeksiyonun klinik bulguları olmadan iyileşme görülmüştür. Yapılan operasyonlar sonucunda iyileşme sağlanamayan ve hastalığın devam ettiği birkaç hasta tekrar opere edilmiş veya operasyonu kabul etmeyen hastalara palyatif tedaviye başlanmıştır. Sonuç: Günümüz klinik kılavuz ilkeleri kullanılarak BRONJ olgularının çoğuna öngörülebilir bir tedavi imkanı sağlanmaktadır. Buna ilave olarak, iyileşme potansiyeli göreceli olarak daha yüksek olan az sayıdaki hastada radikal cerrahi müdaheleden kaçınmak mümkün olabilecektir. Bu grup hastaları klinik takibe alarak, sökestre oluşumu sonrasında daha konservatif bir cerrahi müdahale olan sökestrektomi ile tedavi etmek mümkün olabilmektedir.

In this study, a relationship between lipid peroxidation, the antioxidant defense system and salt stress in salt-sensitive cultivated tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum) and its salt-tolerant wild relative (L. pennellii) was established. Superoxide dismutase (SOD) activities were significantly higher in the leaves of L. pennellii than those of L. esculentum after 12 and 84 d. POX activity showed a gradual increase in both cultivars under 70 mM NaCl. POX activity in L. pennellii significantly increased after 6 and 84 d whereas showed no remarkable change in leaves of L. esculentum under 140 mM NaCl. A higher salinity tolerance of L. pennellii was also correlated with a lower lipid peroxidation, which might be due to a higher content of antioxidant enzymes studied.

Summary Mandibular angioleiomyomas are extremely exceptional, and they may stem from the smooth muscle of vessel walls, aberrant adnexial smooth muscle, arteriovenous anastomoses, ectopic thyroglossal ducts and hamartomas. In this report, a case of angioleiomyoma in the posterior mandibular area was presented, and aetiological, clinical, radiographical, histological characteristics and treatment modalities of the lesion were discussed.

WOS: 000182778600007, Pure colemanite and realgar crystals, collected from Emet Colemanite deposit in Kutahya, Turkey, were used to determine the adsorption mechanisms of flotation reagents on mineral surfaces. The floatability of pure minerals and separation conditions by flotation were also investigated. Infrared spectrophotometer studies revealed that sodium oleate was adsorbed chemically on colemanite surfaces, and floated pure colemanite minerals with over 98% recovery. Potassium amyl xanthate was determined to be the best collector for realgar, and floated pure realgar minerals with over 88% recovery. The optimum separation conditions were also determined by means of flotation by using artificial mineral mixtures. The separation was obtained by floating realgar with potassium amyl xanthate, and colemanite was left in the suspension. Finally, optimum conditions were applied to a natural sample. Realgar was floated off and a colemanite concentrate was obtained in the suspension having 96.99% B2O3 recovery and 33.93% B2O3 grade with 860 ppm As content
