Abstract: Superconducting (SC) tokamak JT-60SA plays an essential role in fusion research and development by supporting and complementing the ITER project, providing directions to the DEMO design activity and fostering next generation scientists and engineers. Since the short circuit incident at the terminal joints of equilibrium field coil #1 during the integrated commissioning (IC) in March 2021, both EU and JA implementing agencies (IAs) have examined how to ensure safe operation of JT-60SA by mitigating the risk of possible discharge occurrence inside the cryostat. Based on the experience of the global Paschen tests, the IAs have established a strategy of risk mitigation measures, which is a combination of (i) reinforcement of insulation, (ii) avoiding unnecessary voltage application to the coil systems and (iii) immediate de-energization of the coils when deteriorated vacuum conditions are detected. Thanks to the considerable efforts of the Integrated Project Team members, the IC restarted in May 2023. After confirmation of the SC state of the coil systems (TF, EF and CS), the coil energization test and the plasma operation phase 1 (OP-1) started. The first plasma was successfully achieved on 23 October 2023 with a limited value of voltage and current applied to the coils. The plasma configuration control was also confirmed with low plasma current and low auxiliary heating power conditions. Based on the IO–F4E–QST collaboration, activities of JT-60SA have been shared with the IO and provided an important lesson for ITER assembly and commissioning, and will provide an outstanding contribution to fusion research at large. After OP-1, maintenance & enhancement phase 1 (M/E-1) starts from January 2024, in which in-vessel components are installed, and heating and diagnostic systems are extensively upgraded to allow a high power heating experiment planned in OP-2. In order to make the best use of JT-60SA, a newly organized JT-60SA experiment team will refine the research plan for the future high heating power operation phase.

2. Helium effect on the sink strength of grain boundaries in F82H

Abstract: F82H were irradiated by Kr2+ ions with and without helium up to 1 displacement per atom at 500 °C, and cavity distribution around grain boundary was investigated by transmission electron microscopy. In F82H irradiated by Kr2+ ions, the cavity number density and the cavity size tended to be decreased and increased as a function of the distance from grain boundary, respectively. This gradient of cavity distribution seemed to be depending on the character of grain boundary. While, the size distribution of cavity seemed to be homogeneous in F82H irradiated by Kr2++He+ ions. This indicates that even prior austenite grain boundary hardly acts as sinks for vacancies if a high number density of helium atoms exists, which is probably due to the decrease in vacancy mobility by helium trapping.

3. Mechanical properties of neutron irradiated F82H using micro-tensile testing

Abstract: Room temperature micro-tensile tests were successfully performed on F82H specimens neutron-irradiated at 573 K up to 5 dpa and unirradiated using a focused ion beam (FIB) device. Dimensions of the gauge section for micro-tensile specimens were about 10 µm (length) × 1 µm2 (area). These specimens were fabricated in a FIB device. The tensile properties obtained on specimens of micrometer size qualitatively agreed with results from millimeter size specimens. Using this micro-tensile testing technique is considered to become very useful data in combining the micro-tensile data on ion irradiated F82H with data on neutron irradiated material. This method overcomes the limitation on obtaining mechanical property on ion irradiated specimens to only micro-indentation testing. 4. Sputtering properties of RAFM steels under high-flux He plasma exposure

Abstract: Sputtering properties of F82H and CLF-1 RAFM (reduced activation ferritic/martensitic) steels are investigated under exposure to high-flux He plasmas (Γi∼2–4×1022m−2s−1) in PISCES-B with a low incident ion energy of ∼80eV and sample temperature, Ts, ranging from ∼573K to 1053K. Both steels are primarily alloys of Fe, Cr, and W. While sputtered W atoms were not detected during the exposure, sputtered Fe and Cr atomic fluxes were spectroscopically quantified using S/XB values of Fe I and Cr I emission lines, which were experimentally determined in this study. Sputtering yields of F82H obtained from spectroscopy agree well with those from mass loss measurements. The He+ fluence-integrated sputtering yield of F82H and CLF-1 does not depend on Ts in the range of ∼573–873K, but starts to increase at Ts ∼900K. Sputtered Fe and Cr atomic fluxes are found to drop during the plasma exposure. The reduction of sputtering yield is explained by surface enrichment of W and development of surface morphology. The surface enrichment of W was measured with Auger electron spectroscopy, and is due to the observed preferential sputtering of Fe and Cr. Cone-like structures were observed with a scanning electron microscope, which become larger with increasing Ts, and W fuzz is formed on top of the cones at Ts≥973K. 5. Microstructure and mechanical property in heat affected zone (HAZ) in F82H jointed with SUS316L by fiber laser welding

Abstract: This study investigates the microstructure and mechanical property in heat affected zone (HAZ) between F82H and SUS316L jointed by 4 kW fiber laser welding at different parameters such as laser scan rate and beam position. OM/FE-SEM observation, EPMA analysis and nano-indentation hardness test were utilized to characterize the microstructure and evaluate the mechanical property. Results show that the HAZ width is dependent on the welding condition. The precipitation of M23C6 particle in HAZ is found to be closely related to the distance from WM/HAZ interface. Decrease in Cr and C concentration in M23C6 depended on the welding condition; the decrease was relatively milder in the case of shifting the beam position to SUS side. Furthermore, the rapid increment in nano-indentation hardness, i.e. ≈2500 MPa, at HAZ/F82H interface was observed regardless of welding parameters. The temperatures at HAZ/F82H interface were estimated from Cr and C concentration change of M23C6 by EPMA. It was revealed that the temperature of HAZ/F82H interface increased with increasing HAZ width, and that the presence of over-tempered HAZ (THAZ) region is confirmed only in the specimens welded right on the F82H/SUS interface (no-shift) at the laser scan rate of 3 m/min.

6. Precipitation of carbides in F82H steels and its impact on mechanical strength

Abstract: The precipitation of carbides in F82H steel and its model steel (Fe-0.2TaC) were investigated by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and extracted residue tests (ERT). The effects of tempering on the precipitation in F82H steels were elucidated on the basis of the characterization of carbides, as well as the quantitative estimation of precipitation strengthening at room temperature. Firstly, the number density of precipitates was measured by extracted residue test in Fe-0.2TaC and tempered F82H steel, and compared with the TEM observation. It was found that the ratio of volume fraction between the TEM and the ERT was respectively 1.84 and 0.54 for Fe-0.2TaC and tempered F82H steel, revealing that the collection probability of ERT strongly depends on the precipitate features, size and number density. Effects of annealing on the precipitation in F82H steels were investigated by ERT. The amount of carbide showed a non-linear relationship to tempering parameter, TP = T(20 + logt). It steeply increased in the TP range from 15.3 to 16.2. The precipitation strengthening in F82H steel was estimated to be about 5–10% relative to its proof strength, suggesting that the carbides in F82H steel have a minor role on the tensile strength at room temperature, though these precipitates are greatly beneficial for improving the creep and radiation resistance at elevated temperatures.

Abstract: The irradiation hardening and microstructures of pure W and W–3%Re for up to 5.0 dpa by self-ion irradiation were investigated in this work. The ion irradiation was conducted using 18 MeV W6+ at 500 and 800°C. A focused ion beam followed by electro-polishing was used to make thin foil specimens for transmission electron microscope observations. Dislocation loops were observed in all the irradiated samples. Voids were observed in all of the specimens except the W–3%Re irradiated to 0.2 dpa. The hardness was measured by using nanoindentation. The irradiation hardening was saturated at 1.0 dpa for pure W. In the case of W–3%Re, the irradiation hardening showed a peak at 1.0 dpa. The correlation between the microstructure and hardening was investigated.

Abstract: T Multiaxial creep-fatigue tests under non-proportional loading conditions with various strain rates were carried out using a hollow cylinder specimen of a high chromium ferritic steel at 823K in air to discuss the influence of non-proportional loading on failure life. Strain paths employed were a push-pull loading and a circle loading. The push-pull loading test is proportional strain path test. The circle loading test is non-proportional strain path test in which sinusoidal waveforms of axial and shear strains have 90 degree phase difference. The failure life is affected largely by the strain rate and the non-proportional loading. This paper presents a modified strain range for life evaluation considering the strain rate based on a non-proportional strain parameter proposed by authors. The strain range is a suitable parameter for life evaluation of tested material under non-proportional loading at high temperature

Abstract: An absolute measurement of the Λ_{c}^{+} lifetime is reported using Λ_{c}^{+}→pK^{-}π^{+} decays in events reconstructed from data collected by the Belle II experiment at the SuperKEKB asymmetric-energy electron-positron collider. The total integrated luminosity of the data sample, which was collected at center-of-mass energies at or near the ϒ(4S) resonance, is 207.2 fb^{-1}. The result, τ(Λ_{c}^{+})=203.20±0.89±0.77 fs, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic, is the most precise measurement to date and is consistent with previous determinations.

Abstract: We report a measurement of the D^{0} and D^{+} lifetimes using D^{0}→K^{-}π^{+} and D^{+}→K^{-}π^{+}π^{+} decays reconstructed in e^{+}e^{-}→cc[over ¯] data recorded by the Belle II experiment at the SuperKEKB asymmetric-energy e^{+}e^{-} collider. The data, collected at center-of-mass energies at or near the ϒ(4S) resonance, correspond to an integrated luminosity of 72 fb^{-1}. The results, τ(D^{0})=410.5±1.1(stat)±0.8(syst) fs and τ(D^{+})=1030.4±4.7(stat)±3.1(syst) fs, are the most precise to date and are consistent with previous determinations.

Abstract: A search for the flavor-changing neutral-current decay B^{+}→K^{+}νν[over ¯] is performed at the Belle II experiment at the SuperKEKB asymmetric energy electron-positron collider. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 63 fb^{-1} collected at the ϒ(4S) resonance and a sample of 9 fb^{-1} collected at an energy 60 MeV below the resonance. Because the measurable decay signature involves only a single charged kaon, a novel measurement approach is used that exploits not only the properties of the B^{+}→K^{+}νν[over ¯] decay, but also the inclusive properties of the other B meson in the ϒ(4S)→BB[over ¯] event, to suppress the background from other B meson decays and light-quark pair production. This inclusive tagging approach offers a higher signal efficiency compared to previous searches. No significant signal is observed. An upper limit on the branching fraction of B^{+}→K^{+}νν[over ¯] of 4.1×10^{-5} is set at the 90% confidence level.

Abstract: The Silicon Vertex Detector (SVD), with its four double-sided silicon strip sensor layers, is one of the two vertex sub-detectors of Belle II operating at SuperKEKB collider (KEK, Japan). Since 2019 and the start of the data taking, the SVD has demonstrated a reliable and highly efficient operation, even running in an environment with harsh beam backgrounds that are induced by the world's highest instantaneous luminosity. In order to provide the best quality track reconstruction with an efficient pattern recognition and track fit, and to correctly propagate the uncertainty on the hit's position to the track parameters, it is crucial to precisely estimate the resolution of the cluster position measurement. Abstract: Belle II DEPFET, PXD, and SVD Collaborations: et al., The Belle II experiment comes with a substantial upgrade of the Belle detector and will operate at the SuperKEKB energy-asymmetric ee collider with energies tuned to ϒ(4S) resonance s=10.588 GeV. The accelerator has successfully completed the first phase of commissioning in 2016 and the first electron–positron collisions in Belle II took place in April 2018. Belle II features a newly designed silicon vertex detector based on DEPFET pixel and double-sided strip layers. Currently, a subset of the vertex detector is installed (Phase 2 of the experiment). Installation of the full detector (Phase 3) will be completed by the end of 2018. This paper describes the Phase 2 arrangement of the Belle II silicon vertex detector, with focus on the interconnection of detectors and their integration with the software framework of Belle II. Abstract: Three-dimensional thermal convection in a cubic cavity heated from one wall and chilled from its opposite wall in the terrestrial-gravity and zero-gravity fields with and without a sinusoidal modulation is investigated numerically. The gravity and its modulation are parallel to the temperature gradient. An incompressible fluid with Prandtl number Pr = 7.1 (water) is considered and hence the Boussinesq approximation is used. The gravity-modulation parameters are a vibrational Rayleigh number Raη and a non-dimentional gravity-modulation frequency ω. Here the authors report a novel ‘trident’ flow structure in laminar and steady thermal convection, which consists of a point-symmetric pair of three-pronged flows, namely, three ascending streams and three descending streams in the cube. This flow structure is stable and persistent in the sense that it is observed in all three situations: a stationary cube under the terrestrial gravity, an oscillating cube under the terrestrial gravity, and an oscillating cube under zero gravity. A POD analysis confirmed this observation. Tested parameters are Rayleigh number Ra = 8.0 × 104 in the terrestrial-gravity field without the gravity modulation or Ra = 1.0 × 104; and the gravity modulation in the terrestrial-gravity field Raη = 1.0 × 105 and ω = 5.0 in the terrestrial-gravity field and Raη = 1.1 × 105 and ω = 5.0 in the zero-gravity field.

Abstract: International audience; We report a particle identification (PID) tool developed using energy-loss information in the silicon-strip vertex detector (SVD) of Belle II for charged pions, kaons, and protons using $D^{* + } \to D^{0}[ \to K^{ - }\pi ^{ + }]\pi ^{ + }$ and $\Lambda \to p\pi ^{ - }$ decay samples. The study is based on e^+e^− collision data recorded at the $\Upsilon (4S)$ resonance by Belle II and the results are compared with that of a Monte Carlo sample. The introduction of additional information from the SVD is found to improve the overall PID performance in the low-momentum region.

Abstract: The high design luminosity of the SuperKEKB electron-positron collider will result in challenging levels of beam-induced backgro\ unds in the interaction region. Understanding and mitigating these backgrounds is critical to the success of the Belle~II experi\ ment. We report on the first background measurements performed after roll-in of the Belle II detector, a period known as SuperKE\ KB Phase 2, utilizing both the BEAST II system of dedicated background detectors and the Belle II detector itself. We also repor\ t on first revisions to the background simulation made in response to our findings. Backgrounds measured include contributions f\ rom synchrotron radiation, beam-gas, Touschek, and injection backgrounds. At the end of Phase 2, single-beam backgrounds origina\ ting from the 4 GeV positron Low Energy Ring (LER) agree reasonably well with simulation, while backgrounds from the 7 GeV elect\ ron High Energy Ring (HER) are approximately one order of magnitude higher than simulation. We extrapolate these backgrounds for\ ward and conclude it is safe to install the Belle II vertex detector., Comment: 22 Pages, 33 figures

Abstract: International audience; Belle II is the next generation B Factory experiment operating at the SuperKEKB accelerator complex at KEK in Tsukuba, Japan. It is expected to collect 50 ab−1 of data, with a target instantaneous luminosity of 6.5 × 1035 cm−2s−1, which is about 30 times larger than its predecessor, Belle. In view of the ever increasing Belle II data sample, accurate simulation of the detector is growing in importance. This poses a challenging task of compromising between the realistic modeling of the response of individual detector components and reasonable performance in terms of CPU time of the simulation. In this paper we describe the simulation of the silicon vertex detector, its performance against collision data and optimization.

Abstract: International audience; For stable operation of the Belle II Silicon Vertex Detector in the future high-luminosity operation of SuperKEKB, we plan to reduce readout data-samples per trigger and to apply hit-selection using hit-time. To realize this plan, we developed novel hit-time estimation methods, one of which achieves the resolution of 2.28 ± 0.04 ns evaluated in the current data acquisition mode. A study using Monte Carlo simulation also confirms that the hit-selection based on this hit-time improves track reconstruction performance.

Abstract: International audience; In spring 2019 the Belle II experiment at the high-luminosity SuperKEKB e^+e^− collider (KEK, Japan) has resumed operation after the installation of the new vertex detector. In the first period of operation SuperKEKB has already reached the record luminosity of 2.4 × 10^34 cm^−2 s^−1 which will be increased by about a factor 30 in the coming years. Two inner layers of DEPFET-based pixels and four layers of double-sided silicon strip detectors (Silicon Vertex Detector, SVD) make up this new vertex detector, designed to meet the stringent physics requirements as well as to cope with the high beam background conditions. Since the beginning of data taking, the SVD has been functioning with a very reliable and stable operation and excellent detector performance. The first evidence of radiation effects in the SVD have been observed, which are at the expected level and not affecting performance. This paper will review the performance achieved by the SVD and the lessons learned in the first year of operation that continued even during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Abstract: International audience; In spring 2019 the fully equipped Belle II experiment started data taking at the energy of the Y(4S) resonance. The new vertex detector (VXD) consists of two inner layers of DEPFET pixels (PXD) and four outer layers of double-sided silicon strip detectors (SVD). It plays a crucial role in recording high-quality data in the new high-luminosity environment of the SuperKEKB collider, characterized by severe beam backgrounds. The SVD was operated reliably during the 2019 physics run, showing high stability of the noise levels and calibration parameters. The SVD performance, measured with first data, showed excellent hit and tracking efficiencies, high signal-to-noise ratio, and cluster energy distribution in fair agreement with the expectations. Detailed studies of the good spatial resolution achieved will be shown. The excellent hit-time resolution has also been measured, which will be exploited for background rejection in the coming years of running at higher luminosity.

Abstract: International audience; The SuperKEKB electron-positron collider at the KEK laboratory in Japan aims to achieve a maximum luminosity 50$\times$ higher than its predecessors KEKB and PEPII, positioning the Belle II experiment at the forefront of searches for non-standard-model physics in the next decade. High collision intensity implies high beam-induced radiation, which can damage essential Belle II sub-detectors and SuperKEKB components. Twenty-eight diamond sensors, read-out by purpose-built electronics, are installed in the interaction region to measure radiation and prevent damage. This talk introduces the system features and discusses its performance in early Belle II data taking.

Abstract: The Belle II experiment at the SuperKEKB collider of KEK (Japan) will accumulate 50 ab−1 of e+e- collision data at an unprecedented instantaneous luminosity of 8 ⋅ 1035 cm−2s−1, about 40 times larger than its predecessor. The Belle II vertex detector plays a crucial role in the rich Belle II physics program, especially for time-dependent measurements. It consists of two layers of DEPFET-based pixels and four layers of double sided silicon strip sensors (SVD detector). We report here results of the standalone commissioning of the SVD and highlights from the first cosmic runs acquired in Belle II. We also report on reconstruction performances of a reduced-scale version of the SVD operated during the accelerator commissioning in 2018.

Abstract: The Belle II Silicon Vertex Detector (SVD) was installed recently and has been prepared for physics run at SuperKEKB factory, Tsukuba, Japan. For a reliable operation and data taking of the SVD, a sophisticated and robust run and slow control system has been implemented, which utilizes the Experimental Physics and Industrial Control System (EPICS) framework. EPICS uses client/server and publish/subscribe techniques to communicate between the various sub-systems and computers. The information exchange between the different pieces of software and computers is done by process variables (PVs). These PVs are provided by input/output controllers (IOCs), which communicate and interface with the hardware components. The Belle II SVD slow and run control comprises five groups of subsystems, which are SVD DAQ controller, Flash ADC controller, environmental monitors and interlocks, power supplies and EPICS infrastructure services. In this paper we describe the tasks and the implementation of the individual sub-systems, the interaction between them and the global Belle II run and slow control as well as the first experience from commissioning and initial operation of the SuperKEKB accelerator.

Abstract: The Belle II experiment aims to accumulate 50 ab−1 of e + e − collision data at the SuperKEKB asymmetric energy collider (Tsukuba, Japan). The first physics data using all Belle II detectors were taken in spring 2019. In the vast physics program of the Belle II experiment, the vertex detector plays a crucial role for the determination of the B -meson decay vertices. It consists of two inner layers of pixelated silicon detectors and four outer layers of double-sided silicon strip detectors (SVD). To achieve a design luminosity of 8 × 1 0 35 cm − 2 s − 1 , 40 times higher than the recorded luminosity of its predecessor, the SuperKEKB collider squeezes the beams to a vertical size of 50 nm (“nano-beam scheme”) and doubles the beam currents. Therefore, the detectors are required to tolerate intense beam induced background due to the very high luminosity. During the 2019 spring run we measured the occupancy rate in the SVD to estimate the level of the beam induced background. With the low initial luminosity, the observed beam induced background mostly originated from Touschek processes and beam-gas scattering within individual beams. Since these different background contributions depend differently on accelerator conditions, such as the beam current, beam size and pressure, they can be disentangled. We estimate the background rate of each contribution and compare them with simulated ones. The results enable us to predict the background levels at increased beam currents and luminosity in the coming years. They also hint at background mitigation measures for running at higher luminosity. In this proceeding we present the results of our study of the beam induced background in the SVD and the prospects for future operation.

Abstract: This paper shows the hardware and the procedure utilized to test all components of the readout system (cables, FADC boards, junction boards) of the Belle II Silicon Vertex Detector after the series production. For the FADC board special testing hardware and firmware were designed and created to check all digital and analog inputs and outputs as well as all data interconnections on the board. The main FPGA on the FADC board generates digital signals which are converted to periodic analog differential alternating voltages up to 40 MHz on the FADC board tester, which then are fed into the analog inputs of the FADC board. Histograms and scans of the samples are recorded by using random equivalent-time sampling or sequential equivalent-time sampling, allowing to characterize the behavior of the system with a much higher bandwidth than the ADCs could do with conventional measurements. Small changes of parameters of the assembly (like using a cable of different length) lead to significant changes of the measured values, creating a sensitive testing instrument. The shapes of the distributions are analyzed and compared to references by software which then decides if a test is passed or not. The commissioning setup of the whole readout chain, with all the final components including the final detector, has been tested in three phases. The respective graphs of the signal-to-noise ratios of the strips of a detector module and histograms of the noise development of the whole detector show very high consistency of the SVD readout system.

30. An overview of tritium retention in dust particles from the JET-ILW divertor

Abstract: Tritium (T) retention characteristics in dust collected from the divertor in JET with ITER-like wall (JET-ILW) after the third campaign in 2015–2016 (ILW-3) have been examined in individual dust particles by combining radiography (tritium imaging plate technique) and electron probe micro-analysis. The results are summarized and compared with the data obtained after the first campaign in 2011–2012 (ILW-1). The dominant component in ILW-1 dust was carbon (C) originating from tungsten-coated carbon fibre composite (CFC) tiles in JET-ILW divertor and/or legacy of C dust after the JET operation with carbon wall. Around 85% of the total tritium retention in ILW-1 dust was attributed to the C dust. The retention in tungsten (W) and beryllium (Be) dominated particles was 100 times smaller than the highest T retention in carbon-based particles. After ILW-3 the main component contributing to the T retention was W. The number of small W particles with T increased, in comparison to ILW-1, most probably by the exfoliation and fragmentation of W coatings on CFC tiles though T retention in individual W particles was smaller than in C particles. The detection of only very few Be-dominated dust particles found after ILW-1 and ILW-3 could imply stable Be deposits on the divertor tiles.

Abstract: We report a measurement of the D⁰ and D⁺ lifetimes using D⁰→K⁻π⁺ and D⁺→K⁻π⁺π⁺ decays reconstructed in e⁺e⁻→[Formula: see text] data recorded by the Belle II experiment at the SuperKEKB asymmetric-energy e⁺e⁻ collider. The data, collected at center-of-mass energies at or near the Υ(4S) resonance, correspond to an integrated luminosity of 72 fb⁻¹. The results, τ(D⁰)=410.5±1.1(stat)±0.8(syst) fs and τ(D⁺)=1030.4±4.7(stat)±3.1(syst) fs, are the most precise to date and are consistent with previous determinations.

Abstract: The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of the geometries and dimensions of the rig and specimen of a small punch (SP) test on the determined creep property. The SP creep property of a specimen was evaluated using finite element analysis by varying the specimen thickness and diameter, diameter of the spherical and hemispherical indentation punches, inner diameter of the lower die, and dimensions of the chamfer of the lower die. We observed that the rupture time decreased with decreasing specimen thickness and punch diameter and with increasing chamfer size and inner diameter of the lower die. Under similar analytical conditions of static average equivalent stress in steady state, the SP creep curves reasonably agreed even in the case where the specimens or rigs have different geometries, which implied the possibility of direct comparison of the test results obtained from specimens and rigs with different dimensions and geometries.

Abstract: The Belle II experiment features a substantial upgrade of the Belle detector and will operate at the SuperKEKB energy-asymmetric e+e− collider at KEK in Tsukuba, Japan. The accelerator completed its first phase of commissioning in 2016, and the Belle II detector saw its first electron-positron collisions in April 2018. Belle II features a newly designed silicon vertex detector based on double-sided strip layers and DEPFET pixel layers. A subset of the vertex detector was operated in 2018 to determine background conditions (Phase 2 operation). The collaboration completed full detector installation in January 2019, and the experiment started full data taking. This paper will report on the final arrangement of the silicon vertex detector part of Belle II with a focus on online monitoring of detector conditions and data quality, on the design and use of diagnostic and reference plots, and on integration with the software framework of Belle II. Data quality monitoring plots will be discussed with a focus on simulation and acquired cosmic and collision data.

Abstract: The Belle II at SuperKEKB will accumulate e+e- collision data at an unprecedented instantaneous luminosity of 8 X 1035, cm−2 s−1, about 40 times larger than its predecessor (Belle). Such a dramatic increase in luminosity will result in a harsh background environment in Belle II. In this paper, we present the detailed performance studies of the Belle II silicon vertex detector with test beam data and Phase II data.

Abstract: The “chip-on-sensor” concept of this detector minimizes the distance of the signal propagation from the double-sided silicon detector strips to the readout chips and thus reduces noise from strip capacitance. One half of the detector is built, the second half is being assembled at the time of writing. Prototypes have been tested in several test beams as well as in the so-called Phase 2 setup inside the detector structure. First results from a commissioning run of the Belle-II prototype SVD detector are presented. The measured signal-to-noise and timing performance are found to be according to design specifications.

Abstract: T Multiaxial creep-fatigue tests under non-proportional loading conditions with various strain rates were carried out using a hollow cylinder specimen of a high chromium ferritic steel at 823K in air to discuss the influence of non-proportional loading on failure life. Strain paths employed were a push-pull loading and a circle loading. The push-pull loading test is proportional strain path test. The circle loading test is non-proportional strain path test in which sinusoidal waveforms of axial and shear strains have 90 degree phase difference. The failure life is affected largely by the strain rate and the non-proportional loading. This paper presents a modified strain range for life evaluation considering the strain rate based on a non-proportional strain parameter proposed by authors. The strain range is a suitable parameter for life evaluation of tested material under non-proportional loading at high temperature. KEYWORDS. Abstract: This study aims to investigate the creep motion of a magnetic domain wall (DW) induced by spin-Hall torque (SHT) in a Ta/Co–Ni/Pt hetero-structured thin wire using photoemission electron microscopy. The displacement of the DW was recorded every time after the duration of an electric current pulse. Results revealed that the existence of pinning centers and the inhomogeneity of the thermal diffusion property of the wire may result in an unstable DW motion. On the contrary, this data also suggested that the SHT induced from both the Ta and Pt layers can significantly improve the DW velocity, which was found to be three orders of magnitude larger than that previously reported for the MgO/Co–Ni/Pt system (Taniguchi et al., Appl. Phys. Exp. 7, 053005 (2014)).

Abstract: Micro-focused and conventional Brillouin light scattering techniques have been exploited to investigate the spectrum of magnetic excitations (eigenmodes) of elliptical permalloy nanorings in the vortex ground state. The interpretation of the experimental data has been achieved using the dynamical matrix method. A careful comparison of the calculated frequency and profiles of magnetic modes with the experimental data, allowed us to identify the character of the different modes in terms of spatial symmetry and localization. In particular, the spatial extent of each mode was directly visualized by measurement of two-dimensional maps of the mode intensity over the ring surface.

Abstract: SlimCS is the conceptual design of a compact fusion DEMO plant assuming technologies foreseeable in 2020–2030s. For continuity of blanket technology from the Japanese ITER-TBM, the prime option of blanket is water-cooled solid breeder with Li 2 TiO 3 (or Li 4 SiO 4 ) and Be. A reduced-activation ferritic–martensitic steel (RAFM) and subcritical water are chosen as the structural material and coolant, respectively. The reactor has somewhat complex torus configuration with a sector-wide conducting plate slipped in between the replaceable (front) and permanent (back) blanket. In order to allow flexibility of maintenance in such a complex configuration, sector transport hot cell maintenance scheme is adopted. This paper describes characteristics of SlimCS with a focus on materials selection.

Abstract: The concept for a compact DEMO reactor named 'SlimCS' is presented. Distinctive features of the concept are low aspect ratio (A = 2.6) and use of a reduced-size centre solenoid (CS) which has the function of plasma shaping rather than poloidal flux supply. The reduced-size CS enables us to introduce a thin toroidal field coil system which contributes to reducing the weight and perhaps lessening the construction cost. Low-A has merits of vertical stability for high elongation (κ) and high normalized beta (βN), which leads to a high power density with reasonable physics requirements. This is because high κ facilitates high nGW (because of an increase in Ip), which allows efficient use of the capacity of high βN. From an engineering aspect, low-A may ensure ease in designing blanket modules robust to electromagnetic forces acting on disruptions. Thus, a superconducting low-A tokamak reactor such as SlimCS can be a promising DEMO concept with physics and engineering advantages.

Abstract: Three options of fusion DEMO plant are proposed characterized by functions of the center solenoid (CS). The prime option uses a downsized CS, which does not provide sufficient V-s for plasma current ramp-up but supplies enough coil current for plasma shaping. This option produces a fusion output of 3 GW with a major radius of 5.5 m, aspect ratio of 2.6, normalized beta of 4.3 and maximum field of 16.4 T. The estimated reactor weight is lighter than that of other conventional tokamak reactors, suggesting an economic advantage. The plant uses rather conservative technologies such as Nb3Al superconductor, water-cooled solid breeder blanket, low activation ferritic steel as the structural material and tungsten monoblock divertor plate. The design philosophy and key issues related to the constituent technologies of the plant are described in the present paper.

Abstract: The evaluation of the temperature dependence of irradiation hardening in a reduced activation ferritic/martensitic steel (RAFs), F82H (Fe–8Cr–2W–V–Ta) and Ni-doped (1%, 2%) F82H, was performed using single/dual-beam ion irradiation and ultra-micro-indentation technique. In analyzing the load–displacement curve, it was assumed that the elastic modulus did not exceed the original value due to irradiation-induced damage because micro-hardness was defined as a function of composite elastic modulus. Secondly, micro-structural evolution was characterized for irradiation conditions where significant changes in micro-hardness in RAFs were found. Finally, based on these results, the plastic deformation behavior of F82H steels with the irradiation hardening was investigated.

Abstract: In order to clarify the source of resonant frequency drift in MEMS resonators, thermal expansion effect of packaging on MEMS devices was investigated. The strain in a silicon plate bonded on an aluminum plate with temperature was precisely measured. Increasing amount of strain in the aluminum plate was as large as 200 micro-strain with increase in only 20 degrees of temperature. The strain in the silicon plate was in a same order of change, however, compressive. Thermal expansion coefficient in Al is approximately ten times of that in Si. The reason of the opposite tendency in strain was speculated to be caused by bending in a Si-Al plate.

50. Gastric adenomas and superficial adenocarcinomas display distinct patterns of mucin carbohydrate and core protein expression

Abstract: Aims To investigate the histogenetic relationship between gastric epithelial neoplasms we studied differences in expression of mucin carbohydrate antigens and mucin core protein, in normal and metaplastic gastric mucosa, and in gastric adenomas and superficial adenocarcinomas. Methods and results We generated four monoclonal antibodies, including HGM72/75 against human gastric mucin and HCM14/21 against human colonic mucin, and investigated immunoreactivities of these antibodies and MUC2 protein expression in normal and metaplastic gastric mucosa, adenomas (15 samples) and superficial adenocarcinomas (intestinal-type, 77; diffuse-type, 59 samples). HGM72 reacted with mucous neck cells of the fundic glands and with pyloric glandular cells whereas HGM75 stained foveolar cells and metaplastic goblet cells. Weak binding of HCM14/21 and strong staining with MUC2 were found in metaplastic goblet cells. Binding of HGM75, HCM14, MUC2, but not HGM72 was high in adenomas. An equivalent staining with HGM72 and HGM75 with low expression of MUC2 and HCM14 was shown in intestinal-type carcinomas while the diffuse-type demonstrated more strong reactivity with HGM75 than with HGM72, MUC2 and HCM14. Little binding of HCM21 was observed in any specimens. Conclusions This study demonstrates that adenomas predominantly have a intestinal phenotype, but both types of adenocarcinomas retain some cells with a gastric phenotype during the early steps of neoplastic development.
