The article focuses on the business prospects of repair and maintenance market of computers. Big customers, with dozens or hundreds of personal computers, tend to buy annual service contracts that allow them to budget their maintenance costs and protect against the cost of a string of breakdowns. George Harmon, an entrepreneur, is determined to get a handsome piece of that business. Harmon charges $476 for a contract that guarantees a year of house calls for an IBM PC. But Harmon is not turning his back on walk-in business. Customers who bring in their maimed computers are charged $55 an hour plus parts, compared with IBM's $100 per hour. Harmon aims to repair those stricken computers in 24 hours.
