Background: While research has explored the connection between addiction and personality, no systematic study has examined how substance use disorders (SUD) and behavioral addictions specifically relate to the HEXACO model of personality. This systematic review and meta-analysis aim to fill this gap by investigating the association between HEXACO personality traits and various addictions, including illegal substances (e.g., narcotics and cannabis) and behavioral addictions (e.g., gambling, gaming, social media addiction, and compulsive sexual behavior disorder) across different populations. Methods: The protocol is in accordance with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis Protocols (PRISMA-P) statement. Searches will be conducted in databases including APA PsycINFO (Ovid), MEDLINE (Ovid), ProQuest, Web of Science, CINAHL, Wiley Online Library, and Google Scholar. Empirical studies published as full papers in peer-reviewed journals or as full dissertations, in English, other European languages, or Persian, investigating the association between HEXACO personality traits and addictive disorders are eligible. Two reviewers will independently screen all citations and full-text articles, and extract data using the Covidence software. They will further assess the risk of bias and quality of the studies using the Newcastle–Ottawa Scale (NOS) for longitudinal and cohort studies, an adapted version of the NOS for cross-sectional studies. Publication bias will be evaluated using funnel plots, Egger's test, and trim and fill analysis. In addition to a narrative summary, meta-analyses will be conducted if data are sufficient. Random effects models will be used to pool effect sizes. Subgroup analyses and meta-regression will be performed to investigate potential sources of heterogeneity. Sensitivity analyses will examine the robustness of the results. Data analysis will be conducted using Comprehensive Meta-Analysis (CMA), version 4. Discussion: This review and meta-analysis will be the first to systematically explore and integrate the evidence available on the association between the HEXACO personality traits and SUD and behavioral addictions. By consolidating information, the study will enhance our understanding of the role of personality traits in the development, maintenance, and treatment of SUD and behavioral addictions. Investors’ personality traits and psychological biases play a crucial role in the decision-making process and risk-taking behavior of investors. The emotional and psychological factors impact the decision-making, giving rise to biases. These biases make investors make irrational decisions, which signifies the need for this study. This study aims to assess investors’ personalities using HEXACO model and its interaction with biases and financial risk tolerance. The data of 530 retail investors in India, who had more than 2 years of investing experience in the stock market, were collected. The study considered the HEXACO model since it captures all dimensions of personality that are not considered in the commonly used Big Five Model (BFM). The result of structural equation modeling and mediation analysis shows that the ‘honesty-humility’ trait significantly affects overconfidence bias. The mediation analysis of biases between traits and financial risk tolerance showed complete, partial, and no mediation effect depending on the nature of prejudice. Clear distinction of personality traits into ‘virtue traits’ and ‘character traits’ can be observed. This clear distinction paves the way for employing the HEXACO model in future studies.

Recent studies have revived the issue of whether the five-factor personality model or Big Five is the most valid to summarize the most relevant personality traits or whether, on the contrary, the basic structure of personality traits would better fit a six-factor model such as the HEXACO model: Honesty–Humility (H), Emotionality (E), Extraversion (X), Agreeableness (A), Conscientiousness (C), and Openness to Experience (O). In a Spanish community sample of 682 adults, the factorial structure of the 30 facets of the NEO-Revised Personality Inventory (NEO PI-R) and its 16 facets common to the HEXACO model was analyzed. In two subsamples of participants, the internal structure of the NEO PI-R, of 30 and 16 facets, fit the five-factor Big Five model better than the six-factor HEXACO model. In addition, the internal 30-facet structure of the NEO-PI-R replicated that obtained in the original US validation and those previously obtained in Spain, although the latter used different participant samples (people evaluated in personnel selection processes, university students). Machiavellian individuals are callous, manipulative, and misanthropic, and they are also strategic and capable of delaying gratification. Many commonly used measures of Machiavellianism focus on the antagonistic aspects of Machiavellianism and devote few items to the strategic aspects of this construct. Because the HEXACO framework includes an Honesty-Humility factor, it may be especially capable of characterizing the full range of Machiavellian characteristics. The current study used a consensus-rating approach to create Machiavellianism scales using items from the HEXACO-100. This approach yielded two HEXACO-Machiavellianism scales that were labeled HEXACO-Manipulative and HEXACO-Disciplined. Data from five community and college student samples were used to examine the internal consistency and validity of these HEXACO-Machiavellianism scales. The scales demonstrated acceptable internal consistency and displayed promising convergent and discriminant validity with criterion variables, including other Machiavellianism scales. The HEXACO-Manipulative and HEXACO-Disciplined scales were negatively correlated, suggesting that Machiavellianism may be better understood as an emergent trait. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Inconsistent responding poses a particular risk to self-report data and is a common phenomenon in undergraduate and community subject pools. The HEXACO-100 personality inventory (Lee & Ashton, 2018) lacks internal validity scales that could be used to identify inconsistent responding. To address this need, the present study developed a HEXACO Inconsistent Responding Test (HIRT). Highly correlated and conceptually overlapping HEXACO-100 item pairs were identified from a derivation sample and cross-validated by comparing real data to randomly generated protocols. The HIRT was highly accurate at identifying both randomly generated and half-randomly generated protocols. HIRT scores exhibited significant correlations with other inconsistency measures (i.e., the Triarchic Assessment Procedure for Inconsistent Responding and the HEXACO's Inter-item Standard Deviation) and were as effective as these other measures at differentiating between consistent and inconsistent responders. This preliminary validation of the HIRT provides strong evidence of its ability to improve the quality of data gathered with the HEXACO-100, which may be especially useful for researchers hoping to utilize the measure in clinically relevant research and applications. This study investigated singles' similarity preferences concerning their ideal partner's personality traits, physical attractiveness, and social resources, as well as potential moderators (fear of being single and mate value) and mediators (forecasted satisfaction). With 1,014 Chinese singles, we found that singles preferred their ideal partner to share similarities in the HEXACO traits, physical attractiveness, and social resources, and they preferred higher similarity in Honesty-Humility and Openness to Experience. Fear of being single, mate value, and forecasted satisfaction did not affect similarity preferences concerning Honesty-Humility and Openness to Experience but had some mixed influence over similarity preferences for other features. This research examined the associations between the fear of being laughed at (i.e., gelotophobia) and several body image dimensions in a sample of 240 young adults from Spain (126 women and 114 men). Moreover, using regression analyses, we investigated the robustness of these associations, controlling for the influence of the HEXACO traits and adding an alternative variable to the predicting model: trait social anxiety, which is strongly associated with gelotophobia. Our results showed that gelotophobia correlated with greater scores on body surveillance, body shame, appearance orientation, and overweight preoccupation (rs ≥.26). This laughter-related disposition also correlated with lower scores on appearance control beliefs, appearance evaluation, and body areas satisfaction (rs ≤ −.30). Self-classified weight was found to exist independently from gelotophobia. Hierarchical regression analyses revealed gelotophobia adds incremental variance (3–13%) in the prediction of these appearance-related dimensions beyond the HEXACO traits (3–20%; predominantly emotionality, extraversion, and honesty-humility traits). Furthermore, gelotophobia yielded stronger incremental values than trait social anxiety in the prediction of body image-related indicators, after controlling for the influence of broad personality traits. The present study investigated the association between personality and job interview performance, as mediated by applicant use of impression management (IM) behaviours. We focused primarily on the novel role of Honesty‐Humility, with a secondary focus on Extraversion and an exploratory examination of other HEXACO personality traits. The sample consisted of 212 management students participating in high fidelity mock interviews with 70 experienced interviewers. Findings indicated that, across both self‐ and peer reports of personality, (low) Honesty‐Humility, (high) Extraversion, and (low) Emotionality predict IM use. In addition, mediation analyses indicated that individuals high in Extraversion and low on Emotionality may perform better in the interview through their use of IM. On the other hand, while Honesty‐Humility indirectly impacted interview performance through several paths, the overall effect was null, such that individuals low in Honesty‐Humility did not perform better in the interview. This is because they used both forms of IM that led to success, and those that detracted from success, thereby cancelling each other out. This study informs our knowledge of personality and interview performance, such that differences in the IM behaviours an individual chooses have implications for whether individuals with certain traits are successful. Practitioner points: Impression management behaviours have an important impact on how applicants are evaluated by interviewers.Individuals who engage in IM may not be those who are necessarily better at the job once hired. The popular short Dark Triad (SD3) measure was translated into Chinese (SD3-C). In two large samples (total N = 950), we evaluated its psychometric properties, including: (a) factorial structure, and (b) reliability estimates and intercorrelations of the three subscales. The nomological network was explored by showing links with established personality models, namely, the Five-Factor and HEXACO models. Congruence coefficients showed a correspondence of factor loadings across English and Chinese versions as a first hint at measurement invariance. Based on lexical studies, the HEXACO (honesty-humility, emotionality, extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, and openness to experience) model of personality has been proposed as a model of basic personality structure that summarizes individual differences in six broad trait dimensions. Although research across various fields relies on the HEXACO model increasingly, a comprehensive investigation of the nomological net of the HEXACO dimensions is missing entirely. Thus, it remains unclear whether each HEXACO dimension accounts for individual variation across theoretically relevant outcome criteria. We close this gap through a large-scale meta-analytic investigation, testing whether each HEXACO dimension is uniquely linked to one broad and theoretically relevant outcome domain. Results from 426 individual meta-analyses, 436 independent samples, and 3,893 effect-size estimates corroborate this unique mapping. Specifically, honesty-humility maps onto the outcome domain of exploitation, emotionality onto insecurity, extraversion onto sociality, agreeableness versus anger onto obstruction, conscientiousness onto duty, and openness to experience onto exploration. Overall, the current investigation provides a comprehensive empirical test of the (breadth of) content captured by the HEXACO dimensions and allows for a broad specification of the nomological net of the HEXACO model overall. Background: Child birth is one of the most important events in a mother's life. Different factors influence whether a child is delivered by cesarean or normal vaginal delivery. Despite the complications of cesarean, demand for this type of delivery is increasing. The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of personal traits on the choice of the delivery method based on HEXACO personality model.Methods: Two hundred and ten pregnant women in some health centers in Tehran volunteered to participate in this research. To identify their personality dimensions, the pregnant women first filled out HEXACO personality forms. Then, the received data were analyzed through multivariate analysis of variance using a software package called SPSS-23.Results: 104 women selected cesarean and 106 other women preferred normal vaginal delivery. The results of the multivariate analysis of variance showed that there is a significant difference between the two groups of women for six personality factors in HEXACO (P = 0.001). The linear combination of personality characteristics of pregnant women has a significant effect on the choice of delivery method (P < 0.05).Conclusions: Personality differences of pregnant women can be considered in psychological interventions and antenatal counseling to overcome psychological resistance to vaginal delivery and increase its choice. Two studies were conducted to investigate redundancy between the character strengths found in the VIA model of character and familiar personality facets. Study 1 used a community sample (N = 606) that completed a measure of character strengths, four personality inventories, and 17 criterion measures. The second study used Mechanical Turk workers (N = 498) who completed measures of the HEXACO and VIA models and 111 criterion variables. Analyses were conducted using both observed scores and true score estimates, evaluating both predictive and conceptual overlap. Eight of 24 VIA scales proved to be largely redundant with one HEXACO personality facet, but only one VIA scale (Appreciation of Beauty) was largely redundant with Five Factor facets. All strength scales except Spirituality overlapped substantially with at least one personality facet. According to the triarchic model, psychopathy encompasses 3 distinct dispositional constructs: boldness, meanness, and disinhibition. Although the Triarchic Psychopathy Measure was designed to assess these 3 constructs, researchers have developed alternative triarchic scales using both omnibus measures of general personality and existing psychopathy scales. The components of the HEXACO model of personality may be especially capable of characterizing the dimensions of the triarchic model of psychopathy. The current study used a consensus-rating approach to create triarchic scales using items from the HEXACO-100. Data from 3 community and college student samples were used to examine the internal consistency, and convergent and discriminant validity of these newly developed HEXACO-Triarchic scales. The scales consistently demonstrated good internal consistency and displayed promising convergent and discriminant validity with theoretically predicted criterion variables. The lone exception was that HEXACO-Meanness and HEXACO-Disinhibition were similarly related to other triarchic measures of meanness. The present study sought to utilize an equity based approach to understand the relationships between broad personality traits (i.e., Honesty-Humility, Conscientiousness, and Agreeableness) and two important workplace behaviors: organizational citizenship behaviors (OCBs) and workplace deviance (WD). We hypothesized that the relationships between these traits and OCB/WD could be somewhat accounted for by the association between these traits and individual differences in equity sensitivity – one's input/output orientation. Using two samples ( N s = 182 and 206) we found evidence that (a) Honesty-Humility and Conscientiousness are associated with equity sensitivity, (b) equity sensitivity predicts levels of OCB and WD, and (c) Honesty-Humility and Conscientiousness predict OCB and WD through their association with equity sensitivity. Although equity sensitivity provided clarity as to these relationships, direct effects remained for Conscientiousness on WD in one of the samples, and Honesty-Humility retained a direct effect on WD in both samples. Agreeableness was not robustly associated with equity sensitivity, but did have a direct negative effect on WD, indicating additional important mechanisms linking traits to WD. Overall, however, evidence emerged that individual differences in equity sensitivity (Benevolence versus Entitledness) can help to understand the associations between broad personality traits and workplace behavior. The current study contributes to the ongoing debate about the nature of psychopathic traits by examining the convergence between a measure of the Triarchic model of psychopathy (Boldness, Meanness, and Disinhibition; Patrick, Fowles, & Krueger, 2009) and the HEXACO model of personality (e.g., Ashton & Lee, 2007) using a sample of 545 undergraduates. There was substantial overlap between the two inventories. Boldness was primarily associated with (low) Emotionality and Extraversion. Meanness was mostly associated with (low) Honestly-Humility and Emotionality whereas Disinhibition had a strong negative correlation with Conscientiousness. Measures of the Triarchic traits provided some evidence of incremental utility over the HEXACO domains in predicting scores on relevant external correlates (e.g., self-esteem, maladaptive personality traits). Recent literature evidences differential associations of personal and general just-world beliefs with constructs in the interpersonal domain. In line with this research, we examine the respective relationships of each just-world belief with the Five-Factor and the HEXACO models of personality in one representative sample of the working population of Switzerland and one sample of the general US population, respectively. One suppressor effect was observed in both samples: Neuroticism and emotionality were positively associated with general just-world belief, but only after controlling for personal just-world belief. In addition, agreeableness was positively and honesty–humility negatively associated with general just-world belief but unrelated to personal just-world belief. Conscientiousness was consistently unrelated to any of the just-world belief and extraversion and openness to experience revealed unstable coefficients across studies. Recent research has identified trait Honesty–Humility as a vital determinant of a variety of cooperative, fair, or pro-social behaviors. However, it is less clear what drives the link between Honesty–Humility and the tendency to exhibit fair behavior which we first demonstrate in a meta-analysis of prior work using the dictator game. To close this gap, we test two potential explanations, namely benevolence versus an internalized (blind) fairness norm. In a redistribution paradigm, we implemented an unfair situation in which participants and their hypothetical counterparts received asymmetric rewards for the same performance in a quiz. The asymmetry was either to the participants’ advantage or disadvantage, manipulated experimentally. Finally, participants were empowered to redistribute all rewards at will. In line with the benevolence account, individuals high in Honesty–Humility established a fair distribution if they themselves were advantaged (thus making sure they do not exploit others) whereas they refrained from rectifying the asymmetry (by taking points from the other) if they were disadvantaged. Vice versa, the pattern cannot be accommodated by the idea of a (blind) fairness norm which would have implied that individuals high in Honesty–Humility establish an equal distribution irrespective of who is advantaged. The recent popularity of the HEXACO model has led to the examination of different instruments based on this model in a variety of contexts and languages. This study examines the psychometric properties of the HEXACO-100 in the Spanish language. A sample of 876 Spanish adults were administered the HEXACO-100 as well as the NEO PI-R and self-reported measures of psychopathy, forgiveness, empathy and well-being. The results support the test–retest reliability of the scales of the HEXACO-100 and the alpha reliability of the domains. An analysis of factor structure, correlations between the domains and correlations with the NEO PI-R support the validity of the six factors. Relationships with psychopathy, forgiveness and empathy are in accordance with suppositions of the original model and highlight the difference between Honesty–Humility and Agreeableness. The results also indicate that the HEXACO-100 outperforms the NEO PI-R in terms of predicting specific dimensions of psychopathy, forgiveness and empathy; however there are no substantial advantages found in the prediction of well-being. Overall, results support the usefulness of the Spanish HEXACO-100 in capturing the original domains of the model and support its usefulness in the study of interpersonal criteria. Research in the area of personality traits and academic performance has been supported by consistent meta-analytic evidence demonstrating positive relationships between Conscientiousness and grade point average (GPA). However, academic performance is not solely a function of GPA but also a number of other important intellectual, interpersonal and intrapersonal behaviours. This wider criterion space opens up the possibility for many personality factors and their underlying facets to relate to academic performance. Using bifactor latent variable modelling, the current study investigates the six-factor HEXACO model of personality, along with their 24 underlying facets, for predicting students' academic performance. Model results reveal interpretable and meaningful relationships between both broad factors and narrow personality facets in predicting college student outcomes. We investigated the reliability of the HEXACO-Personality Inventory ( HEXACO-PI) using the NEO Five- Factor Inventory ( NEO-FFI) and the International Personality Item Pool ( IPIP) Big Five scales in a Japanese sample of 492 respondents (mean age = 20.4 years). The psychometric properties of the HEXACO-PI were examined and found to be satisfactory. The results of the factor analysis showed that the six hypothesized personality domains were found independently. A total of 307 participants responded to the NEO-FFI and the IPIP Big Five scales. The results showed that the five domains of the HEXACO model corresponded to the Five- Factor domains and were relative to the Big Five personality domains as a whole, but the sixth domain, Honesty- Humility, showed weak to moderate correlations with some factors of the NEO-FFI and the IPIP Big Five scales. These results suggest that the Honesty- Humility domain is independent of the five fundamental personality factors and that the HEXACO-PI is a useful and reliable questionnaire for investigating personality structure in cross-cultural and other context. The majority of research on self-monitoring has focused on the positive aspects of this personality trait. The goal of the present research was to shed some light on the potential negative side of self-monitoring and resulting consequences in two independent studies. Study 1 demonstrated that, in addition to being higher on Extraversion, high self-monitors are also more likely to be low on Honesty-Humility, which is characterized by a tendency to be dishonest and driven by self-gain. Study 2 was designed to investigate the consequences of this dishonest side of self-monitoring using two previously unexamined outcomes: moral disengagement and unethical business decision making. Results showed that high self-monitors are more likely to engage in unethical business decision making and that this relationship is mediated by the propensity to engage in moral disengagement. In addition, these negative effects of self-monitoring were found to be due to its low Honesty-Humility aspect, rather than its high Extraversion side. Further investigation showed similar effects for the Other-Directedness and Acting (but not Extraversion) self-monitoring subscales. These findings provide valuable insight into previously unexamined negative consequences of self-monitoring and suggest important directions for future research on self-monitoring. Data were collected from two undergraduate student samples to examine (i) the relations of the 'Dark Triad' variables (Machiavellianism, Psychopathy, and Narcissism) with the HEXACO personality dimensions, as well as (ii) the ability of the aforementioned characteristics and of the Big Five personality factors to predict outcome variables related to sex, power, and money. Results indicated that the common variance of the Dark Triad was very highly correlated with low Honesty-Humility and that the unique variance of each of the Dark Triad variables also showed theoretically meaningful relations with the other five HEXACO factors. Furthermore, the Dark Triad and Honesty-Humility were strong predictors of three domains of outcome variables-Sex (short-term mating tendencies and sexual quid pro quos), Power (Social Dominance Orientation and desire for power), and Money (conspicuous consumption and materialism)-that were not well predicted by the dimensions of the Big Five. The present study examined the effects of rater personality on the performance appraisal process. Specifically, we determined the relative weights that raters place on different performance dimensions when making overall performance evaluations, and examined whether rater personality influenced this weighting process. The literatures on social/political values and mate/friend selection were used as guiding frameworks in developing specific hypotheses. A policy capturing method was used to address the research question in a sample of 192 Canadian undergraduate students. Students were asked to read a number of vignettes describing the teaching behaviours of hypothetical professors, and made overall performance judgments thereafter. Hierarchical Linear Modeling (HLM) was used to test the hypotheses. Results indicated that when making overall performance ratings, raters with high levels of Openness to Experience place greater weight on adaptive performance (e.g., handling changing and uncertain work environments effectively), while raters with high levels of Modesty (a facet of Honesty-Humility) place greater weight on maintaining personal discipline (e.g., lack of deviant or condescending behaviours). The finding that individuals vary systematically in their performance dimension weightings adds to a growing body of literature indicating that raters have unique implicit theories regarding performance. As such, there is a real need for organizations to impart a standard theory of performance to their employees. This study was the first to implicate the personality dimensions of Honesty-Humility and Openness to Experience in the performance weighting process, and as such, adds to our understanding of the nature of rater implicit theories. Abstract: This paper investigates the impact of the HEXACO model of personality structure in predicting political ideology and voting. Five-hundred and seventeen participants provided responses for measures of the HEXACO and the Five Factor Models, ideological orientation, and past voting. Results showed that Conscientiousness was linked to voting for right-wing parties, whereas Honesty–Humility, Agreeableness and Openness were related to voting for left-wing parties. Ideological orientation mediated the relationship between personality traits and voting. We investigated the structure of the Greek personality lexicon, based on a reanalysis of the data reported by Saucier, Georgiades, Tsaousis, and Goldberg. To facilitate comparisons with previous lexical studies of personality structure, our factor analyses were based on ipsatized (i.e., within-subject standardized) ratings on the Greek adjective variable set, after the removal of "negative valence" (or low base rate) adjectives. Results showed a six-factor solution that was very similar to those obtained in a diverse array of other languages, and thus suggest that this six-dimensional structure of personality variation does generalize to the Greek culture. The HEXACO Personality Inventory-Revised (HEXACO-PI-R) is widely used in personality research. Several brief inventories measuring broadly similar six-factor structures have recently emerged (e.g., the Mini-International Personality Item Pool (Mini-IPIP6; Milojev et al., 2013), the Brief HEXACO Inventory (BHI; De Vries, 2013), and the 24-Item Questionnaire Big Six scales (24-QB6; Thalmayer et al., 2011)). Using self- and observer reports collected from 202 undergraduate students, we evaluated the similarities and differences among these three brief inventories. The BHI, which was developed specifically to measure the HEXACO factors, showed a clearer one-to-one correspondence with the original HEXACO scales than did the scales of the other two inventories. This article examines the six largest dimensions of the Turkish personality lexicon, as derived from the personality-descriptive terms of Goldberg and Somer's (2000) data set. The six Turkish lexical factors show close correspondences of content to all six dimensions observed in several other languages. In a new data set, the authors then correlate factor scores representing these indigenous Turkish dimensions with the scales of the HEXACO Personality Inventory, which operationalize the six cross-language factors. Results show a pattern of strong convergent and weak discriminant correlations. Overall, findings suggest that the cross-language six-dimensional structure of personality description does generalize to the Turkish lexicon. Abstract: Recently, described the HEXACO Personality Inventory (HEXACO-PI), a new instrument designed to assess the six dimensions observed in lexical studies of personality structure of various languages. Here, we describe the development of an alternative measure of the HEXACO factors and their facets, using the items of the International Personality Item Pool (IPIP). The scales of the resulting IPIP–HEXACO inventory showed satisfactory psychometric properties, as assessed by internal-consistency reliability, convergent and discriminant correlations with the original HEXACO-PI scales, and factor structure. The HEXACO Personality Inventory (HEXACO-PI) operationalizes the six factors obtained from lexical studies of personality structure in several languages. In this study, psychometric properties of the HEXACO-PI were assessed using a community adult sample and also using observer reports, thereby extending the previous investigation relying only on self-reports from a college student sample. In addition to examining the original 24 HEXACO-PI facet scales, the authors also examined two new facet scales—Altruism versus Antagonism and Negative Self-Evaluation—that assess constructs located interstitially among the factors of the HEXACO space. In this study (N = 236, M age = 21.03, SD = 3.02) we were interested in how the personality traits from the HEXACO model would correlate with vigilance. We used the HEXACO-PI-R 60 items (Ashton & Lee, 2009) to measure six major personality dimensions: Honesty-Humility, Emotionality, Extraversion, Agreeableness, Conscientiousness, and Openness. Vigilance was tested through the Mackworth Clock test (MCT; Mackworth, 1948), 1 1 MCT: Mackworth Clock Test. and several vigilance indicators were registered: correct responses (hits), misses, response time (RT) for the hits, false positives, sensitivity, and precision. Correlation analysis showed that Extraversion negatively correlated with hits and precision, while Conscientiousness positively correlated with hits, sensitivity, and precision, and negatively correlated with misses and false positives. Additionally, Honesty-Humility positively correlated with precision, and negatively correlated with false positives. Regression analyses replicated these findings, except that Honesty-Humility negatively correlated only with false positives. This study stresses the important role of personality in vigilance-related behavior and contributes to a better understanding of the relationship between the HEXACO model of personality and vigilance. • Conscientiousness was the most consistent correlate of vigilance. • Honesty-Humility was a negative correlate of false detections. • Extraversion was a negative correlate of hits and precision. • Personality was not correlated with misses and response time for the hits.
