This document presents the theory, operation, and coding details of and experience with a computer program for the accurate prediction of the reentry corridor of an earth satellite undergoing orbital decay due to atmospheric friction. This program is also useful in the precision prediction of satellite positions for other purposes such as sensor calibration and weapon systems.

Abstract

This document describes, from a programmer's view, the coding function, and logic of the Spiral Decay computer program. The Spiral Decoy program operates in the SPACETRACK B-3 Semi-Automatic Programming System; and will accept sensor observations, assign weights and biases to the data, perform a differential correction and predict past or future position and velocity. Section 2 of this document contains a functional description and basic flow charts of the program. Section 3 defines symbolic names, data and tape formats, and memory assignments. A detailed description of each subroutine used by Spiral Decay is given in Section 4. The Appendix describes the Adams-Bashforth integration routine which is used by Spiral Decay for ephemeris integration., See also AD613280.

Abstract

Two computer programs are described. The first corrects the orbital elements of a geodetic satellite. The second uses residuals generated by the first program to correct the geocentric coordinates of the observing sensors and of the origin of the datum by which a set of such sensors are connected.

Abstract

The mathematical model presently used by the Space Detection and Tracking System (SPADATS), operated by the U. S. Air Force, Air Defense Command, to describe the orbital motion of Earth satellites is presented. The formulation is given and the non-Keplerian terms are justified. Various output formats of the system are described and defined. Limitations of the model are discussed in a qualitative fashion. (Author)

Abstract

BICEP3 is a 520 mm aperture on-axis refracting telescope at the South Pole, which observes the polarization of the cosmic microwave background (CMB) at 95 GHz to search for the B-mode signal from inflationary gravitational waves. In addition to this main target, we have developed a low-elevation observation strategy to extend coverage of the Southern sky at the South Pole, where BICEP3 can quickly achieve degree-scale E-mode measurements over a large area. An interesting E-mode measurement is probing a potential polarization anomaly around the CMB Cold Spot. During the austral summer seasons of 2018-19 and 2019-20, BICEP3 observed the sky with a flat mirror to redirect the beams to various low elevation ranges. The preliminary data analysis shows degree-scale E-modes measured with high signal-to-noise ratio....
