Business-to-business (B2B) firms leverage the advantages of their domestic location to export goods and services. However, little empirical research has examined the extent to which domestic location effects explain variation in B2B firms' export intensity, despite their potentially critical role. In this study, the authors explore this question with a variance decomposition analysis, an approach that allows them to quantitatively examine the relative contribution of domestic location and other effects on B2B firms' export intensity. Their analysis uses a large longitudinal sample of 7,465 European B2B firms over 15 years (2004–2018). Splitting domestic location effects into the home country and subnational region (a geographic space within a country) effects, they find that each explains a substantial portion of the variation in export intensity. Notably, the results show that the examined effects are more critical for small and medium-sized enterprises than for larger B2B firms. Domestic location factors also matter more for B2B manufacturing firms than for B2B service firms. The findings enhance scholarly and managerial understanding of the application and predictive power of domestic location effects in explaining firm internationalization through exports. Summary: The vehicular ad hoc network (VANET) provides a variety of applications and is gaining popularity due to the reuse of network resources. Exact location identification with optimum delay is the demand of all vehicle users. Currently, individuals are utilizing the Global Positioning System (GPS) to ascertain the precise geographical coordinates of a given location. The drawback of GPS technology is its inability to accurately determine location and use GPS in some remote areas. Searching for the location of a particular house randomly incurs a loss of fuel as well as increases delay. This motivates us to propose one automated method through VANET using location service‐based routing for the location identification of a house. The proposed work involves searching for the location of a house using the open‐source MongoDB database, and the operations on the database are performed using the tool Node‐Red. By simulation using SUMO and Network Simulator 2.35, the proposed work is evaluated and compared with existing location service‐based routing like geographic location service (GLS) and hierarchical location service (HLS). The proposed work performs better in terms of routing efficiency (end‐to‐end latency, packet delivery rate), location efficiency (request sends, query success rate, and request travel time), and routing and location overhead (MAC bandwidth consumption). Also, the performance of the proposed work is presented as stable by increasing the number of vehicles. In the past decade, there has been a great deal of attention paid to and speculation about the residential mobility and location decisions of millennials. Academics and practitioners alike have been trying to determine where millennials are moving and why, including whether they are leading a 'back to the city' movement or whether they are moving to the suburbs as previous generations did at their age. Using US Census data, this article examines the geographical population distribution of young adults in the USA in recent decades. Categorising neighbourhoods by their urban or suburban character and by their central or peripheral location, we find that millennials lived in urban areas on the heels of the Great Recession at higher rates than previous generations. However, over the decade, the millennial population gradually shifted towards suburban areas: central urban and peripheral urban neighbourhoods largely lost millennial residents from 2011 to 2021, while peripheral suburban neighbourhoods experienced substantial gains. When it comes to neighbourhood amenities (e.g. restaurants and parks), millennials largely left amenity-rich areas for neighbourhoods with fewer amenities, though these amenities grew faster in the neighbourhoods that gained millennials the most. Millennial suburbanisation seems to be associated with housing affordability and demand for larger homes, as the population shift was more pronounced in the metros that have lower housing affordability and a lower share of larger homes in their central urban neighbourhoods. Understanding the associations and possible mechanisms between Cardiorespiratory Fitness (CRF) and residential location is an important focus of public health research. This is a cross-sectional study carried out with 2250 students (6–17 years), from southern Brazil. In addition to age, sex, and body size measurements, we also recorded hemoglobin and platelet count measurements using venous blood samples (10 ml). The CRF was measured using the 6-minute run/walk test, with predictors explored via allometry. Results identified a novel and independent association between the hemoglobin-to-platelet count ratio and children’s CRF, after controlling for confounders. We also provide evidence of a possible mechanism for this association, having identified reduced measures of hemoglobin and increased platelet counts observed in children living in urban (vs rural) areas. These results suggest the need for more effective public health practices and policies addressing the built enviroment´s health effects in Brazil and potentially other congested ciries. Auto ownership behavior is driven by complex relationships that can vary dramatically across different traveler groups and communities. Differences in auto ownership among racial groups have been of particular interest, given ongoing efforts to advance equity in transportation outcomes. There are a number of studies documenting racial disparities in auto ownership associated with racial and ethnic residential clustering, termed "automobile mismatch." Yet, these differences in auto ownership behavior by race and residential location are virtually never considered in models of travel behavior, despite calls for the consideration for race in transportation planning and decision making. This study aims to bridge the gap between understandings of the connections between race and space and transportation outcomes, using Los Angeles County as a case study. A series of auto ownership model specifications are used to investigate statistical connections between the racial and ethnic categories of residents, and neighborhoods, revealing systematic variations across racial and spatial dimensions. The composite model, which includes racial and spatial indicators, outperforms the base model, suggesting that the inclusion of race and space explains significantly more information on variations in auto ownership and provides a superior fit to the data. Our findings also suggest that the exclusion of racial and spatial indicators may lead to overestimation of certain effects, and may completely misrepresent the importance of certain household, individual-level, and built environment effects in explaining auto ownership preferences. Given the increasing attention to equity and representation in transportation outcomes, models that exclude considerations for race and space may be poorly positioned to support meaningful transportation equity analyses. • Current travel models of auto ownership lack consideration for race and space in shaping auto ownership outcomes. • We systematically compare auto ownership model specifications, that include racial and spatial indicatiors. • The results show that models with such indicators offer better statistical fit and explain more about auto ownership. • Excluding these indicators may bias certain effects and misrepresent important household, individual, and built environment effects. • Interactions between race and space also matter and can siginificantly shape auto ownership outcomes. Modeling spatial search processes such as residential location search are challenging, particularly, due to the need to deal with a large dataset and wide array of factors. This introduces a multi-dimensionality challenge to location search modeling. With the motivation to accommodate multi-dimensionality, this paper develops a machine learning–based Gaussian mixture model (GMM) for location search. This study accommodates the effects of several factors including accessibility, land use, dwelling, transportation infrastructure, and neighborhood attributes on location search decisions. The spatial unit of analysis is dwelling-level. This study conceptualizes that households' search for location based on their reason to move. The pool of alternatives for each household is generated based on probability estimates of GMM. The location choice model considering the reason-based GMM outperforms the model without considering relocation reasons in GMM and random sampling-based model in-terms of predictive performance. The demand for home health care services is rapidly increasing due to the growing number of older people. The uncertainty surrounding this demand affects the network design processes and the performance of the home health care system in the long term. This study aims to address the issue of demand uncertainty in a home health care location problem. While decisions regarding the location of home health care facilities must be made immediately, the determination of distribution can be postponed until actual demand is observed. In such situations, minimax/maximin robust optimization methods are commonly employed to address uncertainty and facilitate informed decision-making, even in cases where there is limited information about future demand. However, these methods are often too conservative and may lead to suboptimal solutions. To tackle this issue, we propose a regret minimization method, which is reformulated as a robust model to overcome its intractability. Additionally, we propose a column-and-constraint generation algorithm to solve the robust optimization and regret minimization models. Finally, we conduct a comprehensive set of numerical experiments to compare the performance of the models in terms of solution quality and computational time. This study investigates the relationship between English language proficiency and socioeconomic status (ELP–SES relationship) through a quantitative cross‐national analysis of 30 jurisdictions in Asia. It aims to uncover the degrees and patterns of the ELP–SES relationship by analysing AsiaBarometer surveys conducted in the mid‐2000s. Specifically, it assesses how English proficiency correlates with seven demographic and SES factors: generation, gender, education, occupational status (employment status and job categories), economic status, and residential location. Through cross‐tabulation and hierarchical cluster analyses, it was found that although a clear and close connection between English proficiency and SES exists in most parts of Asia, the extent and pattern of this connection significantly vary across jurisdictions. The most pronounced correlations, or English divides, were observed in former British and American territories and in less developed countries, while Central Asia and Japan showed relatively smaller correlations. Numbers of aggressive prostate cancer (aPC) cases are rising, but only a few risk factors have been identified. In this study, we introduce a systematic approach to integrate geospatial data into external exposome research using aPC cases from Pennsylvania. We demonstrate the association between several area-level exposome measures across five Social Determinants of Health domains (SDOH) and geographic areas identified as having elevated odds of aPC. Residential locations of Pennsylvania men diagnosed with aPC from 2005 to 2017 were linked to 37 county-/tract-level SDOH exosome measures. Variable reduction processes adopted from neighborhood-wide association study along with Bayesian geoadditive logistic regression were used to identify areas with elevated odds of aPC and exposome factors that significantly attenuated the odds and reduced the size of identified areas. Areas with significantly higher odds of aPC were explained by various SDOH exposome measures, though the extent of the reduction depended on geographic location. Some areas were associated with race (social context), health insurance (access), or tract-level poverty (economics), while others were associated with either county-level water quality or a combination of factors. Fly-in-fly-out (FIFO) camps are liminal work environments in which work and personal life are blended. In such context, an important characteristic is the limitation to one’s freedom to carry out actions that usually occur outside of work contexts (e.g., choosing when to eat dinner), which we refer to as ‘personal autonomy limitation’. The role of personal autonomy limitation for FIFO workers’ mental health has not been systematically investigated at a larger scale. We test whether personal autonomy limitation predicts workers’ psychological distress and their psychological work detachment while they are at their residential home. We also investigate the moderating role of roster ratios (i.e., the ratio of days workers spend on site and at home) on these hypothesized associations. Online survey data from 1547 Australian resources sector FIFO workers showed that higher levels of perceived personal autonomy limitation in FIFO camps predicted greater psychological distress, with this effect partially mediated by lower detachment from work whilst at home. Roster ratio did not moderate the direct or mediated relationships between personal autonomy limitation in FIFO camps and worker psychological distress. With the support of big data mining techniques, utilizing social media data containing location information and rich semantic text information can construct large-scale daily activity OD flows for urban populations, providing new data resources and research perspectives for studying urban spatiotemporal structures. This paper employs the ST-DBSCAN algorithm to identify the residential locations of Weibo users in four communities and then uses the BERT model for activity-type classification of Weibo texts. Combined with the TF-IDF method, the results are analyzed from three aspects: temporal features, spatial features, and semantic features. The research findings indicate: ① Spatially, residents' daily activities are mainly centered around their residential locations, but there are significant differences in the radius and direction of activity among residents of different communities; ② In the temporal dimension, the activity intensities of residents from different communities exhibit uniformity during different time periods on weekdays and weekends; ③ Based on semantic analysis, the differences in activities and venue choices among residents of different communities are deeply influenced by the comprehensive characteristics of the communities. This study explores methods for OD information mining based on social media data, which is of great significance for expanding the mining methods of residents' spatiotemporal behavior characteristics and enriching research on the configuration of public service facilities based on community residents' activity spaces and facility demands. AbstractIn the post-pandemic era, tourists are increasingly interested in sustainable consumption, particularly focusing on green hotels. Given the ongoing endemic nature of COVID-19, our research explores the effects of tourists’ residential locations, specifically pandemic-affected areas, on their intention to choose green hotels. Drawing on the Protection Motivation Theory, we discuss how and why residential location influences risk perception, which in turn motivates tourists to contribute to environmental protection by opting for green hotels. Results from five experiments suggest that the influence of pandemic areas on green hotel consumption can fluctuate over time. During the initial outbreak, a positive correlation emerges between tourists’ risk perception and their distance from the pandemic’s epicenter. Those residing in marginal areas show greater threat appraisal and stronger intentions toward choosing green hotels than tourists in central areas. However, this relationship is found to reverse during the mitigation and post-pandemic phases. Furthermore, our research reveals that hotels can significantly sway tourists toward green consumption through the strategic use of hope or fear appeals in advertising. These findings enrich the literature on pandemic-related influences on green consumption and offer practical insights for hotel managers and policymakers seeking to promote sustainable travel more effectively in the post-pandemic era. The COVID-19 pandemic has initiated more telecommuting (or working from home) than ever. This paper provides an economic analysis of the impacts of telecommuting on the residential location choice equilibrium. In particular, this paper employs a simplified monocentric city model of urban spatial structure to analytically examine the impacts of telecommuting on residential location choices and the associated commuting pattern in a city, considering that telecommuting may have positive, zero, or negative impact on individual income level. We found that the income effect of telecommuting and its relative magnitude against the commuting cost govern whether telecommuting will attract more to live in the suburb or the downtown. Moreover, the impacts of housing supply and commuting costs on the residential location choice equilibrium are dependent on the level of telecommuting, where such impacts diminish when the level of telecommuting increases. Furthermore, this paper derives and examines analytical solutions for the optimal level of telecommuting, the optimal housing supply and the optimal transport investment (that reduces commuting cost) in order to improve social welfare or the housing operator's profit in the context of telecommuting. How these optimal solutions are related to the level of telecommuting is also analyzed. Commuting, the spatial mismatch between work and residential locations, necessitates integrated urban and transport policies to mitigate its societal impacts. While cross-border commuting (CBC) is increasing and governance of border regions is on the rise beyond national borders, no systemic review of this specific commuting pattern exists. We aim to consolidate the CBC literature accumulated over the years into a coherent and synthetic framework. Our systematic review assembles an inaugural comprehensive corpus of cross-border commuting literature. It reveals three transversal key topics (transport-oriented topic, qualitative approaches versus a lack of quantitative data, and a large majority of European papers) and four sub-topics (patterns, determinants, impacts and policies). Moreover, we consolidate findings through meticulous mapping of evidence, where most links are traced between the determinants and the level of flows across borders. Finally, the discussion offers directions for future research, with an exhortation to explicitly link policies to sustainability and social concerns, and the necessity for standardised datasets for methodological comparability across cases and in alignment with general commuting research. This paper explores disabled people's experiences of 'everyday' hate within and around their home. The characteristics of the home make it a particularly interesting site of analysis, as many of the features offer protections and risks simultaneously. Moreover, the home is a particularly important space within our everyday lives, particularly for disabled people who may encounter marginalization within other social spaces. In this article, I consider how encounters within the home shape the way in which the space is made, and how disabled people are able to be within them. I explore the home as a space where persistent and repeated violence can occur, which in turn, shapes how bodies come to occupy (or not), their homes and to what meanings the home takes on. In an attempt to explore this, I offer different conceptualizations of the home as a site of refuge, control and containment, avoidance, and resistance. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: The purpose of the present study is to explore the factors that influence the residential location choice of households in the Indian context. Design/methodology/approach: Two sub-urban towns of Kolkata, i.e. Biddhanagar Municipal Corporation and Rajarhat Newtown, are taken as case studies. In total, 34 variables are considered related to the household's socioeconomic background (10), dwelling (3), travel (2) and level of importance of neighborhood characteristics (19). A revealed preference household survey is conducted, which resulted in the collection of 390 samples. Firstly, 19 level of importance variables are deduced to 3 latent factors using exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis. After that, a utility function is estimated using a multinomial logit regression to identify significant factors. Findings: The results indicate the significance of car ownership, work travel time, work mode, monthly income, proximity to work, proximity to family/relative/friends, proximity to quality schools, quality of physical infrastructure such as water availability, power availability and housing typology among others in the residential location choice of households. Research limitations/implications: Kolkata, a major metropolitan area in eastern India, has been experiencing space constraints to cater to the housing demand of the ever-increasing population. Although satellite towns are being developed, the infrastructure landscape in such towns is uneven, resulting in more housing demand in one area than another. The study furnishes significant findings to develop more informed policies to attract households in low-demand areas and manage high-demand areas to achieve sustainable planning. Originality/value: Considering the importance of geographical context, it is the first study on residential location choice, providing a perspective of household behavior from eastern India. It also shows the importance of physical infrastructure attributes in residential location choice for developing countries, which is seldom employed in the current practice. Moreover, previous studies (although few) done in India consider the objective value of location characteristics. This article re-examines the symbolic and aesthetic uses of the home in the British New Wave. Key works of scholarship on the cycle have tended to position the home as a site of stable return for the young protagonists, and as a privileged expression of the reproductive heterosexual maturities that the films are seen ultimately to endorse. This article argues that, far from such reliable bastions of normativity, these domestic spaces are depicted often as visually strange and ideologically unstable. There is, consequently, a distinctly domestic emergence of queer forms and figures to be found in the British New Wave, exceeding the critical attention to the queer in these films, which has hereto focused almost exclusively on the cycle's lone denoted homosexual character. The article focuses first on Saturday Night and Sunday Morning, in which I argue that signs of gender subversion, homosexuality and transness make the home a primary site of ideological tension for the aspiring patriarch. I then discuss the queer home-making of A Taste of Honey, in which imitation and subversion of 'traditional' domesticities present opportunities for resistance, critique and creativity. Ultimately, I argue that the queer lingers within these films as query, occasioning an un-making of the 'normative' family and an imaginative re-making of kinship that can be appropriated to a project of queer hope. Although an extensive experimental literature has tested a wide array of voter mobilization tactics, billboard advertisements have seldom been evaluated, and studies to date have been limited to a small number of sites. This essay reports results from a nationwide experiment conducted during the 2020 general election in the United States. Experimental sites were ethnically diverse locations in metro areas, including both presidential battlegrounds as well as places with no closely contested races. A total of 298 billboards were randomly assigned to treatment or control in 155 geographic clusters. Exposure to billboards by residential location is modelled using cell phone usage patterns. Turnout is measured using public records for residents living at various distances from randomly assigned billboards. Using a variety of estimation approaches, we obtain point estimates that are close to zero, with hints of stronger effects among those who reside near treated billboards. In this study, we analyze the extent of user reactions based on user's tweets to news articles, demonstrating the potential for home location prediction. To achieve this, we quantify users' reactions to specific news articles based on the textual similarity between tweets and news articles, showcasing that users' reactions to news articles about their cities are significantly higher than those about other cities. To maximize the difference in reactions, we introduce the concept of News Distinctness, which highlights the news articles that affect a specific location. By incorporating News Distinctness with users' reactions to the news, we magnify its effects. Through experiments conducted with tweets collected from users whose home locations are in five representative cities within the United States and news articles describing events occurring in those cities, we observed a 6.75% to 40% improvement in the reaction score when compared to the average reactions towards news for outside of home location, clearly predicting the home location. Furthermore, News Distinctness increases the difference in reaction score between news in the home location and the average of the news outside of the home location by 12% to 194%. These results demonstrate that our proposed idea can be utilized to predict the users' location, potentially recommending meaningful information based on the users' areas of interest. This research delves into the intricate dynamics of housing location in the bustling metropolis of Tehran. It aims to gain a deeper understanding of the factors influencing housing prices across the city. Employing a descriptive-analytical method, the study utilizes the Python programming language and its libraries, along with various regression models, to analyze a comprehensive dataset of 8000 villas and apartments spread across 22 districts and 317 areas. Data obtained from official sources are used to examine the correlation between housing prices and nine key determinants. The findings reveal strong positive correlations between the total value of the houses and several factors: surface area (80%), neighborhood location (75%), presence of an elevator (44%), presence of a parking lot (43%), and year of construction (26%), these demonstrate the importance of area and neighborhood. Conversely, the distinct number shows an inverse correlation (−41%) which means the higher the distinct number is, the lower the total value will be. In its final stage, the study employs cross-validation to evaluate the performance of various learning models, achieving a maximum accuracy of 85%. The research concludes by presenting a new formulation and modeling approach for determining the total value of housing, showcasing its originality and contributions to the field. Despite the importance of measuring racial-ethnic segregation and diversity in the United States, current measurements are largely based on the Census and, thus, only reflect segregation and diversity as understood through residential location. This leaves out the social contexts experienced throughout the course of the day during work, leisure, errands, and other activities. The National Experienced Racial-ethnic Diversity (NERD) dataset provides estimates of diversity for the entire United States at the census tract level based on the range of place and times when people have the opportunity to come into contact with one another. Using anonymized and opted-in mobile phone location data to determine co-locations of people and their demographic backgrounds, these measurements of diversity in potential social interactions are estimated at 38.2 m × 19.1 m scale and 15-minute timeframe for a representative year and aggregated to the Census tract level for purposes of data privacy. This paper demonstrates the macro dynamics of housing and disability by comparing pressures on a broad range of issues related to housing and disability across states. Despite the growing population of adults with disabilities in the United States, research on the national-level relationship between housing and disability has been largely absent and little attention has been paid to accessibility, housing affordability, or the prevalence of involuntary movement and relocation for adults with disabilities. Using national data from the 2020 American Community Survey (ACS), we examine the multi-dimensional nature of housing, through cost burdens, upkeep, and maintenance, renting vs. ownership, and types of housing prevalent in the United States, and argue that this creates a paradox of livability vs. affordability for adults with disabilities. These state-level trends in the cost and livability of housing environments by state show that housing conditions and housing costs are inversely associated for adults with disabilities. These macro-level conditionalities are not uniform but vary by housing type and location across the country, creating specific paradoxes in each state. We assert that housing itself is one of the key mechanisms that can support or hinder the long-term well-being of persons with disabilities living in the community, through the presence or absence of both physical space and facilities in the home. Ultimately, housing conditions and affordability need to be considered primary factors in the study and support of persons with disabilities and these considerations must be tailored to state and local housing dynamics to meet persons with disabilities where they live. Since May 2018, federal restaurant menu labeling regulations have required large U.S. chain restaurants to disclose calorie counts on menus. This study estimates the share of U.S. adults who notice calorie information on fast-food and sit-down restaurant menus and identifies the consumer characteristics that predict noticing calorie labels. Using a nationally representative sample of 5,185 U.S. adults aged 18 and older from the 2022 Health Information National Trends Survey (HINTS), linear regression models were estimated to predict the likelihood of noticing calorie labels the last time adults ordered food in a fast-food or sit-down restaurant. The 2022 HINTS data were publicly released in April 2023 and these public-use and de-identified data were analyzed in October 2023. In 2022, about 1 in 2 U.S. adults (49.7%, 95% CI=47.6%, 51.8%) reported noticing calorie labels during their last restaurant visit. The likelihood of noticing calorie information was significantly lower among men, lower income households, unpartnered adults, residents of the Northeast Census Region, and residents of rural areas. Approximately half of U.S. adults reported seeing calorie labels when they last ordered food in a fast-food or sit-down restaurant in 2022. The Bihari community in Bangladesh, consisting of de facto stateless individuals, has long been excluded politically, socially, and economically. This article explores the nature of the political otherness of the Bihari people, who have been the victims of divisive politics. The Bihari people are deprived of a series of fundamental rights, including citizenship status, voting rights, political representation, access to government facilities, freedom to participate in elections as a candidate, as well as access to passports, banking accounts, and insurance. This article investigates how political factors have contributed to the historical and contemporary forms of othering of Geneva Camp (Mohammadpur), Murapara Bihari Camp (Mirpur), and Kurmitola Bihari Camp (Mirpur), we inquire into the nature of such political otherness. Building on the theoretical insights from Robert Park, W. E. B. Du Bois, and Ruth Levitas, we identify the reasons underlying statelessness and explain the otherness of the Bihari community. Survey and interview data are collected from primary sources, supplemented with data from published and unpublished sources. We find that the Bihari people have neither political power nor access to political participation at the local or national level as electoral candidates due to their identity, residential location, lack of active citizenship status, and limited access to voting rights. Moreover, the Bihari identity and residence in Bihari camps are the principal obstacles to access to a passport, government services, bank accounts, and insurance facilities. This article concludes that the people of the Bihari community in Bangladesh are the victims of severe political exclusing, and such exclusion is reponsibale for the "otherness of Bihari people. With the development of distributed generation and power electronics technology, DC microgrids have made certain progress with their advantages of simple structure, economic efficiency, and easy control. Considering factors such as the geographical location of some residential areas, microgrids with fuel cells that can operate independently are also receiving increasing attention. In this paper, an online control method named virtual hydrogen consumption is proposed based on an independent DC microgrid which solves the problem of electro‐hydrogen conversion successfully. By solving the overall consumption function, the analytical solution is further obtained to realize the online control. Despite increasing attention to theories in transportation equity, few focus on specific social groups, such as older people. Scholars and practitioners need to better understand the implications that residential location, access to transportation, and technology resources have for older people's quality of life. Drawing on literature from urban planning, gerontology, and public health, I develop a framework, accessibility capability, that will support the planning of future transportation systems and neighborhoods to accommodate older people's travel needs. The microvasculature is integral to nearly every tissue in the body, providing not only perfusion to and from the tissue, but also homing sites for immune cells, cellular niches for tissue dynamics, and cooperative interactions with other tissue elements. As a microtissue itself, the microvasculature is a composite of multiple cell types exquisitely organized into structures (individual vessel segments and extensive vessel networks) capable of considerable dynamics and plasticity. Consequently, it has been challenging to include a functional microvasculature in assembled or fabricated tissues. Isolated fragments of intact microvessels, which retain the cellular composition and structures of native microvessels, are proving effective in a variety of vascularization applications including tissue in vitro disease modeling, vascular biology, mechanistic discovery, and tissue prevascularization in regenerative therapeutics and grafting. This study aims to identify the causal effects of English proficiency on residential location choices of immigrants. Based on the ideas that (i) immigrants whose mother tongue is linguistically close to English learn the language more easily, and that (ii) young children learn a new language more easily than older children, we construct an instrument for English proficiency, exploiting linguistic distance from English, and age at arrival in the United Kingdom for childhood migrants. Using a unique dataset, we construct various measures of residential clustering aimed at capturing different types of immigrant enclave, and find a negative impact of better English skills on residency in a language enclave, but a positive impact on residency in an ethnic enclave. Green spaces are important elements of cities due to their benefits to residents' physical health, mental health and development, and social connections. Residents are more likely to experience green space benefits when they use them frequently and usage increases when amenities are accessible. Because lower-income households often have less reliable access to automobiles, examining access solely on the road network is inadequate. Do households across the socioeconomic spectrum have access to green space on pedestrian and bicycle networks? After estimating residential locations (origins) from U.S. Census data and park and other green space locations (destinations) from the City of Albuquerque data, we connect the two using service area network analyses in a geographic information system (GIS). Findings suggest that overall green space access is a concern since less than 50% of Albuquerque residents have access to a green space within 400 m, indicating levels below those recommended by the World Health Organization. Park accessibility is relatively equally distributed for low-, middle-, and high-income households across both pedestrian and road networks. Access to other green space is a source of possible inequity with high-income households having more than five times the access to non-park green spaces than low-income households. The bike network presents another source of possible inequity as 39% of high-income households have access to the bike network versus only 30% of low-income households and an expansion of the bike network is a primary recommendation for increasing access in an equitable fashion. Background: There is a growing recognition of multidisciplinary practices as the most rational approach to providing better and more efficient healthcare services. Pharmacists are increasingly integrated into primary care teams, but there is no universal approach to implementing pharmacist services across healthcare settings. In Norway, most pharmacists work in pharmacies, with very few employed outside this traditional setting. The home care workforce is primarily made up of nurses, assistant nurses, and healthcare assistants. General practitioners (GPs) are not based in the same location as home care staff. This study utilized the Normalization Process Theory (NPT) to conduct a process evaluation of the integration of pharmacists in a Norwegian home care setting. Our aim was to identify barriers and facilitators to optimal utilization of pharmacist services within a multidisciplinary team. Methods: Semi-structured interviews (n = 9) were conducted with home care unit leaders, ward managers, registered nurses, and pharmacists in Norway, in November 2022-February 2023. Constructs from the NPT were applied to qualitative data. Results: Findings from this study pertain to the four constructs of the NPT. Healthcare professionals struggled to conceptualize the pharmacists' competencies and there were no collectively agreed-upon objectives of the intervention. Consequently, some participants questioned the necessity of pharmacist integration. Further, participants reported conflicting preferences regarding how to best utilize medication-optimizing services in everyday work. A lack of stakeholder empowerment was reported across all participants. Moreover, home care unit leaders and managers reported being uninformed of their roles and responsibilities related to the implementation process. However, the presence of pharmacists and their services were well received in the setting. Moreover, participants reported that pharmacists' contributions positively impacted the multidisciplinary practice. Conclusion: Introducing new work methods into clinical practice is a complex task that demands expertise in implementation. Using the NTP model helped pinpoint factors that affect how pharmacists' skills are utilized in a home care setting. Microsampling has revolutionized pharmaceutical drug development and clinical research by reducing sample volume requirements, allowing sample collection at home or nontraditional sites, minimizing animal and patient burden, and enabling more flexible study designs. This perspective paper discusses the transformative impact of microsampling and patient‐centric sampling (PCS) techniques, emphasizing their advantages in drug development and clinical trials. We highlight the integration of liquid chromatography‐mass spectrometry (LC–MS) strategies for analyzing PCS samples, focusing on our research experience and a review of current literatures. The paper reviews commercially available PCS devices, their regulatory status, and their application in clinical trials, underscoring the benefits of PCS in expanding patient enrollment diversity and improving study designs. We also address the operational challenges of implementing PCS, including the need for bridging studies to ensure data comparability between traditional and microsampling methods, and the analytical challenges posed by PCS samples. The paper proposes future directions for PCS, including the development of global regulatory standards, technological advancements to enhance user experience, the increased concern of sustainability and patient data privacy, and the integration of PCS with other technologies for improved performance in drug development and clinical studies. By advancing microsampling and PCS techniques, we aim to foster patient‐centric approaches in pharmaceutical sciences, ultimately enhancing patient care and treatment efficacy. This article explores the relationship between temperature and intimate partner violence against women in 34 developing countries. Exploiting the variation in average temperatures across women's residential locations within the 12 months prior to the survey date, we detect the positive association between temperature and women's exposure to intimate partner violence. Specifically, a one standard deviation increase in temperature (equivalent to an increase of 5.94°C) raises the risks of intimate partner violence (physical, emotional, and sexual violence) at both the extensive and intensive margins. These impacts could be attributable to the loss of control (proxied by alcohol use) and worse labor market outcomes. Our heterogeneity analyses further show that women from rural areas, those from poor households, those having low education, and those living with low‐educated partners are particularly vulnerable to the damaging consequences of temperature hikes. Rationale: Particulate matter with an aerodynamic diameter ⩽2.5 μm is associated with adverse outcomes in fibrotic interstitial lung disease (fILD), but the impact of ultrafine particulates (UFPs; aerodynamic diameter ⩽100 nm) remains unknown. Objective: To evaluate UFP associations with clinical outcomes in fILD. Methods: We conducted a multicenter, prospective cohort study enrolling patients with fILD from the University of Pittsburgh Dorothy P. and Richard P. Simmons Center and the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation Patient Registry (PFF-PR). Using a national-scale UFP model, we linked exposures using three approaches in the Simmons cohort (residential address geocoordinates, ZIP code centroid geocoordinates, and ZIP code average) and two in the PFF-PR for which only five-digit ZIP code was available (ZIP code centroid and ZIP code average). We tested UFP associations with transplantation-free survival using multivariable Cox proportional-hazards models, baseline percentage predicted FVC and DlCO using multivariable linear regressions, and decline in FVC and DlCO using linear mixed models adjusting for age, sex, smoking, race, socioeconomic status, site, particulate matter with an aerodynamic diameter ⩽2.5, and nitrogen dioxide. Measurements and Main Results: Annual mean outdoor UFP concentrations for 2017 were estimated for 1,416 Simmons and 1,919 PFF-PR patients. Increased UFP concentration was associated with transplantation-free survival in fully adjusted Simmons residential address models (hazard ratio, 1.08 per 1,000 particles/cm3 [95% confidence interval, 1.01–1.15]; P = 0.02) but not PFF-PR models, which used less precise linkage approaches. Higher UFP exposure was associated with lower baseline FVC and more rapid FVC decline in the Simmons registry. Conclusions: Increased UFP exposure was associated with transplantation-free survival and lung function in the cohort with precise residential location linkage. Although traditional migration research focuses predominantly on large cities as ports of entry for migrants, increasingly more migrants start in smaller cities and rural areas. These mobility patterns give access to specific arrival infrastructures with differentiated and often unequal opportunities. Current research has addressed the multiplicity and political nature of arrival infrastructures, but what happens after arrival remains a black box. By building on micro register data, this study employs a longitudinal approach to trace the trajectories of EU labour migrants in the Netherlands across time and space. Our findings indicate that among those who choose to remain in the Netherlands, internal migration is largely characterized by geographical immobility. When people did move to a different type of residential location, it was often to more urbanized places. As mostly migrants with a higher income made these moves, this strengthened the dualization of more precarious migrants in rural areas and more well‐off migrants in larger cities. Using data from Los Angeles, this article explores the locational determinants as well as the assessed‐value effects of the presence of accessory dwelling units (ADUs). The results show that ADUs are less likely to be found on large parcels containing newer houses and at dense locations near the CBD, the LAX airport, and beaches. ADU presence is more likely close to commercial districts, light‐rail stations, and educational establishments but less likely in higher income areas and Black neighborhoods, although parcels in Latino neighborhoods are more likely to contain ADUs. The assessed‐value regressions show that ADU presence raises a parcel's assessed value and selling price by 7%–9%, while also accurately capturing the unusual rules for property assessments under California's Proposition 13. Background: Thriving from Work is a construct that has been highlighted as an important integrative positive worker well-being indicator that can be used in both research and practice. Recent public discourse emphasizes the important contributions that work should have on workers' lives in positive and meaningful ways and the importance of valid and reliable instruments to measure worker well-being. The Thriving from Work Questionnaire measures how workers' experiences of their work and conditions of work contributes in positive ways to their thriving both at and outside of work. Methods: The purpose of this study was to translate the Thriving from Work Questionnaire from English to Spanish, and then validate the translated questionnaire in a sample of 8,795 finance workers in Peru and Mexico. We used item response theory models replicating methods that were used for the original validation studies. We conducted a differential item functioning analysis to evaluate any differences in the performance of models between Peru and Mexico. We evaluated criterion validity with organizational leadership, flourishing, vitality, community well-being, and worker's home location socio-economic position. Results: The current study demonstrates that the Spanish (Peru/Mexico) questionnaire was found to be a reliable and valid measure of workers' thriving from work. One item was dropped from the long-form version of the original U.S. questionnaire. Both the long and short form versions of the questionnaire had similar psychometric properties. Empirical reliability was high. Criterion validity was established as hypothesized relationships between constructs was supported. There were no differences in the performance of the model between countries suggesting utility across Latin American countries. Conclusions: The current study demonstrated that the Spanish (Peru and Mexico) version of the questionnaire is both a reliable and valid measure of worker well-being in Latin America. Background. Despite global strides to reduce child morbidity and mortality, the number of infant and child deaths from preventable causes in low-and middle-income countries remains unacceptably high. A cost-effective strategy to improve child health outcomes is through child vaccination and subsequent immunisation. Despite free child vaccination in the public healthcare sector in Tanzania, the country's vaccination rates have plateaued and remain concentrated among children from wealthier households. Objective. To identify the factors contributing to inequality in childhood vaccination in Tanzania. Methods. This retrospective study used secondary data from the Tanzania Demographic and Health Survey for 2004/05, 2010 and 2015/16. Inequalities were measured using the Erreygers' corrected concentration indices. These inequalities were then decomposed to gain a deeper understanding of the contributing factors. Results. Child vaccinations are higher among children from wealthier households in Tanzania, and this disparity has intensified over time. Socioeconomic differences in wealth, residential locations, mass media exposure and maternal education have become increasingly important drivers of these inequalities among Tanzanians. Conclusions. Socioeconomic divisions in Tanzania threaten to perpetuate inequalities in access to healthcare and subsequent health. Child vaccination should be provided equitably to all children regardless of their household's socioeconomic background. Following Bourdieu, residential location as habitat may provide spatial profit when it matches with a habitus – but how? How can we conceptualize situations of mismatch between habitat and habitus, and what may they mean for urban inequalities? This article explores this topic through the lens of mothering practices in elementary schools. Qualitative interviews in two neighbourhoods in Berlin, Germany, suggest how moral geographies at intersections of class and race/ethnicity structure parents' opportunities to organize resources for children in their specific spatial contexts. It argues that mothering practices can help us see not just that, but how habitus and habitat are related. Empirically, it suggests that the moral geographies in which these schools are embedded reinforce the exclusionary consequences of their institutional practices. I theorize that the moral geographies of neighbourhoods as sites of mothering practices vis‐à‐vis the class‐based state logics in institutions may contribute to an urban impasse of educational inequality. • Asynchronous online focus groups held with 146 participants giving their views on Mobility as a Service. • Thematic analysis results considered in terms of home location: urban, peri -urban, and rural. • Accurate, reliable information is a core requirement of any MaaS app, regardless of a person's home location. • Urban residents could benefit from extra information, but rural residents need novel mobility solutions. • Peri-urban residents are a key target group, with MaaS having the potential to influence attitudes to non-car travel. Understanding the perceptions and needs of different types of prospective end-users of Mobility as a Service (MaaS) is an important step towards successful scheme and customer-facing app design. The travel behaviour literature typically favours quantitative approaches; however, qualitative methods can offer unique insights in this regard. To this end, this article reports on a series of online focus groups held with 146 residents of a region in which Mobility as a Service is on the cusp of being rolled out. Participants' perceptions of MaaS, in terms of their information needs, the incentives that might help them use it, and the challenges they perceive, were explored with respect to their place of residence: urban, peri-urban, or rural. Inductive thematic analysis of over 30,000 words of text lead to the identification of a variety of themes and sub-themes. Accurate, reliable, and up-to-date information is a core requirement for all. For those in urban areas, the presentation of multiple journey options, with associated information on travel time and cost, are key. For those in peri-urban areas, detailed route information that facilitates the linking of private transport with public transport, and the facilities available at stations and stops, are of particular significance. For those in rural areas, fundamental service provision limitations hamper the potential for traditional, urban-focussed MaaS schemes reliant on public transport networks. A successful rural MaaS system will be distinct from urban MaaS, with a lesser focus on traditional public transport, and peri-urban residents represent an important target group for encouraging modal shift and improving transport system sustainability. In recent years, under the influence of multiple factors such as traditional ideas and living economic conditions, the aging population in China continues to increase. Most of the elderly are more inclined to aged at home, and the first places for elderly activities are communities and the surrounding environment, which greatly affects the convenience of life and happiness of the elderly. In this paper, Changxindian area in Fengtai District of Beijing was as the research object, and detailed calculation and analysis were carried out by using POI data and arcGIS software. The relative location of residential areas and surrounding public toilets was explored, and the best location of public toilets in the daily walking area under the model of community home-based care for the elderly was further studied. This study focuses on family perspectives of school and home-based learning during the early months of the Covid-19 pandemic, revealing both what is lost and gained as a result of families being more intimately involved in the academic training of their children. Through the use of qualitative interviews, researchers found that parents (1) addressed challenges related to virtual learning on their own, (2) actively guided their children's learning journeys and (3) engaged in collective efforts to ensure the well-being of their children. These findings suggest that as the school systems responded to the pandemic and home became a site of academic learning, the home also became a site of everyday ingenuity as parents applied a kind of pedagogical improvisation and accessed funds of knowledge to design learning spaces and scheduling frameworks. The present study focuses on residential areas of Delhi to identify the elevated levels of ambient PM10 and PM2.5 due to biomass burning followed by the coloring activity in the Holi festival celebrated at the end of the winter season. This study also focuses on the health risk assessment and mortality among different age groups due to the change in particulate matter levels during the Holi festival in Delhi, India. Secondary data of particulate matters have been procured from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC), and Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM), Pune for the period of the pre-, during, and post-Holi period for the year 2018-2020 at four selected residential locations in Delhi, India. The health impacts of particle inhalation were quantified using the AirQ + models. The results indicated the levels of PM10 and PM2.5 rise about 3-4 times higher during the Holi festival than on normal days, resulting in health risks and causing an excess number of mortality and Asthma cases in Delhi. Such cases were also found to be higher in 2018, followed by 2019 and 2020 at all the selected locations in Delhi. The study linked the increasing particulate levels in the Holi festival with the increased health risk through short-term exposure of the population. The excess number of cases (ENCs) of mortality, all causes of mortality among adults (age > 30 years) associated with short-term exposure to particulate were also identified. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Variations in Global Positioning Systems (GPSs) have been used for tracking users' locations. However, when location tracking is needed for an indoor space, such as a house or building, then an alternative means of precise position tracking may be required because GPS signals can be severely attenuated or completely blocked. In our approach to indoor positioning, we developed an indoor localization system that minimizes the amount of effort and cost needed by the end user to put the system to use. This indoor localization system detects the user's room-level location within a house or indoor space in which the system has been installed. We combine the use of Bluetooth Low Energy beacons and a smartwatch Bluetooth scanner to determine which room the user is located in. Our system has been developed specifically to create a low-complexity localization system using the Nearest Neighbor algorithm and a moving average filter to improve results. We evaluated our system across a household under two different operating conditions: first, using three rooms in the house, and then using five rooms. The system was able to achieve an overall accuracy of 85.9% when testing in three rooms and 92.106% across five rooms. Accuracy also varied by region, with most of the regions performing above 96% accuracy, and most false-positive incidents occurring within transitory areas between regions. An increasing body of evidence indicates correlations between the symptoms of temporomandibular disorder and those of eating disorder (ED). However, further investigation is required to elucidate the temporal and causal relationships between the aforementioned disorders. This retrospective cohort study was conducted using data from the Taiwan National Health Insurance Research Database. Temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJD) was analyzed both as the cause and consequence of ED. We collected the data (from January 1, 1998, to December 31, 2011) of patients with antecedent TMJD (N = 15,059) or ED (N = 1219) and their respective controls (1:10), matched by age, sex, income level, residential location, and comorbidities. This study included patients who had received a new diagnosis of an ED or a TMJD between January 1, 1998, and December 31, 2013. Cox regression models were used to assess the risk of ED or TMJD development in patients with antecedent TMJD or ED. TMJD patients had an approximately 3.70-fold (95 % confidence interval [CI]: 1.93–7.10) risk of ED development. Similarly, patients with ED had an approximately 4.78-fold (95 % CI: 2.52–9.09) risk of TMJD development. Subgroup analyses based on ED subtypes indicated antecedent TMJD and bulimia nervosa as the predictors of increased bulimia nervosa and TMJD risks (hazard ratios: 6.41 [95 % CI: 2.91 to 14.11] and 5.84 [95 % CI: 2.75 to 12.41]), respectively. Previous TMJD and ED are associated with increased risks of subsequent ED and TMJD; these findings suggest the presence of a bidirectional temporal association between TMJD and ED. Do older workers, including those that work beyond age 65, have different commuting patterns than their younger counterparts? With a focus on older working adults, including those that continue to work beyond age 65, this paper examines the relationship between migration, residential location, and commute distance within Toronto's commuter shed. The study utilizes data from the master file of the 2016 Canadian Census, allowing migrants to be disaggregated by duration of residence. Results indicate that living in rural areas and being a recent migrant are significantly associated with longer commutes. Furthermore, findings demonstrate that the commute distance of very recent migrants (those who migrated in the year immediately prior to the census) and individuals who moved to rural areas have the longest commute distances. As residential duration increases, commute distance decreases. Older workers have similar commuting behaviors as younger workers, although older workers who recently migrated have some of the longest commute distances as well. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
