11. Investigating School Principals' Learning Leadership Practices in Three Indonesian Excellent Schools

Abstract

Purpose: The present study sought to investigate school principals' practices in enhancing learning leadership quality in three Indonesian excellent schools. Method: The study employed a case study design. A research sample of 15 participants was taken from three excellent schools, consisting of principals, vice-principals, teachers, education staff, and students' parents. A purposive sampling method was used to recruit the participants, which was further developed by the snowball sampling technique. Data collection was carried out through in-depth interviews using open-ended questions based on instruments or questions that were examined and validated by experts in qualitative research. Findings: The findings of this study suggest that systemic learning leadership improvement involves (a) formulating the learning conception; (b) stimulating teachers to receive and perceive the learning conception; (c) developing an efficient learning culture, and (d) developing a conducive learning environment. Through input-process-output/outcome system, along with the stages of designing, organizing, mentoring, determining, implementing, monitoring, evaluating, and continuous-sustainable feedback provision, a learning leadership process that develops schools' capacity in enhancing their teachers' competency has been identified. Implications to Research and Practice: These results can be adopted as a new model for learning leadership enhancement that will establish school capacity in improving teachers' quality, constituting effective learning, and improving the students' learning process.

Abstract

Research on natural convection is exciting in some experimental and numerical cases, especially in rectangular cavities with relatively low heat dissipation and thermal control systems with low cost, reliability, and ease of use. The present study will use the meshless radial basis function method to solve the velocity formulation of the Navier–Stokes equations by varying some nominal Rayleigh numbers of 104, 105, and 106. The numerical accuracy is compared with the previous research. The advantages of the meshless method are that it does not require a structured mesh and does not require inter-nodal connectivity. The results show that the temperature pattern is identical to the previous research. The calculations have been done for three different Rayleigh numbers of 104, 105, and 106 for 151 × 151 nodes. The variations of the Ra number will affect the isothermal, velocity contours, and Nusselt number.

Abstract

Savonius turbine is a type of turbine with a simple construction type and works at low water heads. The advantages of this turbine make the Savonius turbine enjoyable to develop, especially with the use of water as the driving fluid. This research was conducted to determine the effect of increasing the end length of the blade on the performance of the Savonius water turbine. This study uses the free-fall water method with three different water discharge conditions. There are four variations of the turbine tested: the Savonius turbine with a ratio value of l and r = 0; 0.2; 0.3; and 0.4. The result is that the Savonius turbine, with the addition of the end length of blade ratio l/r = 0.3, produces a greater power output in each discharge condition than other variations. Abstract

Savonius Hydroki Turbine-Rainwater and building wastewater discharged through network channels. The Savonius turbine exhaust pipe has the potential as a water energy power plant, Tandem and Overlap Distance. One example is the Savonius hydrokinetic turbine. This research was carried out to determine the effect of overlapping distance on the Savonius tandem turbine on the resulting performance. The method used is to drain water from the storage tank to hit the turbine through a pipe using three variations of water discharge. The variation of the overlap distance tested was the Savonius tandem turbine with overlapping lengths of 20 mm, 25 mm, and 30 mm. Turbine performance is indicated by the value of power output, TSR, and Cp generated. The best performance is obtained on the Savonius tandem turbine with an overlap distance of 30 mm with a Cp value of 0.0354 at a TSR of 0.53 and produces a power output of 26.34 watts. Abstract

One of the turbine power plants with an advantage in starting torque is the Savonius turbine. Siguard J. Savonius invented this turbine using wind propulsion. When this turbine is tested using a water-driven, this turbine still had low efficiency. Therefore, many researchers have tried to study the factors that can increase their performance. One of them is this research to know the effect of adding the number of blades on the performance of the resulting work. The maximum performance obtained is by comparing the results in the form of CP and TSR from each variation. The research uses a method of rainwater harvesting (RWH) with four different discharges. Variation of discharge is regulated through a valve that has been installed in the system. Three types of runners are used, namely 3, 5, and 7. The results show that the number of blades 5 produces the best performance output compared to other variations. The Coefficient power (Cp) obtained is 0.061 at the TSR value of 0.923. The Savonius turbine is a drag-type turbine that can operate at low velocity and have good starting torque. These advantages make them interesting to develop, Starting from internal factors, including the addition of the number of blades, blade shapes, and others. Examples of research on external factors are included a deflector to regulate water flow before hitting the rotor. This research was conducted to determine the effect of modifying the deflector distance with a Savonius turbine's position. The method used is Rainwater Harvesting (RWH), with variations of the discharge 8.8×10−3 m3/s, 11.3×10−3 m3/s, 13.1×10−3 m3/s, and 15×10−3 m3/s. Abstract

Energy-saving and emission reduction are crucial since shipping activity due to the global maritime trade has increased exponentially. Several agreements have been engaged to optimize ship energy efficiency composed of ship design and shipping operation planning. However, most up-to-date studies focused on speed and route optimization. The interaction analysis between speed and route efficiency below varied environmental conditions is limited. To attain energy and cost efficiency, a study of cavitation on the propeller that considers the ocean environmental condition will be discussed in this work. Although researchers have previously observed cavitation phenomena, the predictability of simulations is not yet such that problems can be eliminated. Since the multiphase flow of water and vapor is sensitive to environmental conditions, it leads to varying observation accuracy. Thus, the current paper proposes a new performance indicator of the ship propeller under cavitation predicted by computational fluid dynamics (CFD). CFD-based simulation to observe the propeller cavitation was used to model the Zwart cavitation and Kunz cavitation models under two turbulence models of K−ε at different flow conditions and operating environments. Initial validation tests between experimental and numerical simulation show good agreement with a mean error of 4.7% in the Zwart model and 3.7% in the Kunz model, where the k−ε turbulence model provides an almost higher relative error. It is revealed from the result that the increase in temperature causes the rise in the cavitation problem. Abstract

Previous research has examined political skills and transactional leadership in examining predictors and determinants of employee performance. This study was made necessary by the lack of research on organizational work culture and mediation in the holding industry. This study examines differences in employee performance due to political skills and transactional leadership and examines organizational work culture as a mediating factor. Design/methodology/approach - This study used census sampling techniques. Collect data using questionnaires and analyze research model hypotheses using Confirmatory Factor Analysis and Structural Equation Modeling with SmartPLS. Findings - The data analysis results show that political skills and transactional leadership are not positively related to employee performance and organizational work culture. Organizational work culture also fails to be a mediator, and only the impact of organizational work culture on employee performance is positive and significant. Practical implications - Organizations must do everything possible to ensure an improved adaptable, collaborative, flexible, and team-oriented work culture within the organization, as this is essential to improving performance by providing motivation, embracing innovative ideas, responding to employee complaints, and enabling the organization to survive and thrive. Originality/value - The study provides insights into how and to what extent political skills and transactional leadership variables affect employee performance. This study complements the existing literature and explores the mediating role of organizational work culture. Executives and policymakers can use the study's findings to improve organizational work culture in the corporate holding industry. The study opens up possibilities for future research. Abstract

Hydropower is Indonesia's second most significant renewable energy source, following solar energy. It possesses a substantial capacity of 75,000MW, constituting around 17.8% of the overall renewable energy portfolio in the country. However, hydropower installations in Indonesia account for only 0.061% of the available potential, leaving a considerable gap. One effort to bridge the gap is the development of a water turbine. Because Savonius has been a popular turbine in recent years, this research was conducted using one. Because of the Savonius's simple structure, it is simple to modify. This study aims to determine how the number and size of fins affect the performance of the Savonius water turbine. Computational Fluid Dynamics with two-dimensional analysis was used in this study. The Fluent Solver and the Ansys Student version software were used in this study. The variations included no fins, one fin, and two fins on the rotor. The k-shear Stress Transport (SST), which produces accurate findings by combining the k-model for free flow and the standard k-model for boundary (wall) flow. Inlet velocities of 0.3m/s, 0.65m/s, and 0.9m/s were utilized for the research simulations. At a flow velocity of 0.65m/s and a TSR of 0.77, the power coefficient is increased by 13.8% by adding two fins compared to the configuration without fins. The findings were subsequently subjected to a two-factor factorial design analysis. The findings indicate that the number of fins and the TSR factor exert a substantial impact.
