Abstract The applications of nanomaterials in regenerative medicine encompass a broad spectrum. The functional nanomaterials, such as Prussian blue and its derivative nanoparticles, exhibit potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. By combining it with the corresponding scaffold carrier, the fusion of nanomaterials and biotherapy can be achieved, thereby providing a potential avenue for clinical treatment. The present study demonstrates the fabrication of a Mesoporous Prussian blue nanoparticles (MPBN) functionalized Inverse Opal Film (IOF) neuroconduit for peripheral nerve repair through reverse replication and freeze-drying techniques. The binding of MPBN to the neuroconduit can effectively decreasing reactive oxygen species and inflammatory factors in the vicinity of the residual nerve, thereby providing protective effects on the damaged nerve. Furthermore, comprehensive behavioral, electrophysiological, and pathological analyses unequivocally substantiate the efficacy of MPBN in increasing nerve structure regeneration and ameliorating denervation-induced myopathy. Moreover, MPBN enhances the antioxidant capacity of Schwann cells by activating the AMPK/SIRT1/PGC-1 pathway. The findings suggest that MPBN, a biocompatible nanoparticle, can safeguard damaged nerves by optimizing the microenvironment surrounding nerve cells and augmenting the antioxidant capacity of nerve cells, thereby facilitating nerve regeneration and repair. This also establishes a theoretical foundation for exploring the integration and clinical translation between nanomaterials and biotherapy.

Background: The recovery of ischemic skin flaps is a major concern in clinical settings. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effects of engineered exosomes derived from FGF1 pre-conditioned adipose-derived stem cells (FEXO) on ischemic skin flaps. Method: 6 patients who suffered from pressure ulcer at stage 4 and underwent skin flaps surgery were recruited in this study to screen the potential targets of ischemic skin flaps in FGF family. FGF1 was co-incubated with adipose stem cells, and ultracentrifugation was applied to extract FEXO. Transcriptome sequencing analysis was used to determine the most effective microRNA in FEXO. Animal skin flaps models were established in our study to verify the effects of FEXO. Immunofluorescence (IF), western blotting (WB) and other molecular strategy were used to evaluate the effects and mechanism of FEXO. Results: FGF1 was expected to be the therapeutic and diagnostic target of ischemic skin flaps, but there is still some deficiency in rescuing skin flaps. FEXO significantly improved the viability of RPSFs and endothelial cells by inhibiting oxidative stress and alleviating apoptosis and pyroptosis through augmenting autophagy flux. In addition, FEXO inhibited the over-activated inflammation responses. Transcriptome sequencing analysis showed that miR-183-5p was significantly elevated in FEXO, and inhibiting miR-183-5p resulted in impaired protective effects of autophagy in skin flaps. The exosomal miR-183-5p markedly enhanced cell viability, inhibited oxidative stress and alleviated apoptosis and pyroptosis in endothelial cells by targeting GPR137 through Pi3k/Akt/mTOR pathway, indicating that GPR137 could also be a therapeutic target of ischemic skin flap. It was also notabale that FGF1 increased the number of exosomes by upregulating VAMP3, which may be a promising strategy for clinical translation. Conclusion: FEXO markedly improved the survivial rate of ischemic skin flaps through miR-183-5p/GPR137/Pi3k/Akt/mTOR axis, which would be a promising strategy to rescue ischemic skin flaps.

Abstract Ni–Fe‐based oxides are among the most promising catalysts developed to date for the bottleneck oxygen evolution reaction (OER) in water electrolysis. However, understanding and mastering the synergy of Ni and Fe remain challenging. Herein, we report that the synergy between Ni and Fe can be tailored by crystal dimensionality of Ni, Fe‐contained Ruddlesden–Popper (RP)‐type perovskites (La0.125Sr0.875)n+1(Ni0.25Fe0.75)nO3n+1 (n = 1, 2, 3), where the material with n = 3 shows the best OER performance in alkaline media. Soft X‐ray absorption spectroscopy spectra before and after OER reveal that the material with n = 3 shows enhanced Ni/Fe–O covalency to boost the electron transfer as compared to those with n = 1 and n = 2. Further experimental investigations demonstrate that the Fe ion is the active site and the Ni ion is the stable site in this system, where such unique synergy reaches the optimum at n = 3. Besides, as n increases, the proportion of unstable rock‐salt layers accordingly decreases and the leaching of ions (especially Sr2+) into the electrolyte is suppressed, which induces a decrease in the leaching of active Fe ions, ultimately leading to enhanced stability. This work provides a new avenue for rational catalyst design through the dimensional strategy.

Abstract Background The aim of this study was to evaluate the distal movement, vertical movement, distal tipping and crown buccal torque of maxillary molars after the completion of distalization by comparing the predicted movement with the achieved movement using palatal rugae registration. Methods The study included 22 clear aligner patients (7 males and 15 females), and 79 molars were measured. Two digital models were generated before treatment and after molar distalization and were superimposed after selecting the palatal rugae area for registration in GOM inspect suite software 2022 (GOM; Braunschweig, Germany). The predicted and achieved movements of molar distalization, intrusion, distal tip and crown buccal torque were measured and compared. The brachial plexus injury (BPI) is one of the most severe types of peripheral nerve injuries, often caused by upper limb traction injury. In clinic, the surgery is widely used to treat the BPI. However, surgery may need to be performed multiple times at different stages, which carries risks and brings heavy economic burden. In non-surgical treatment, splinting, local injection of corticosteroids, and oral corticosteroids can achieve significant short-term benefits, but they are prone to recurrence and may cause complications of mechanical or chemical nerve damage. In this report, we present a case of a 46-year-old female patient with BPI. The patient had difficulty in raising, flexing and extending of the left upper limb, and accompanied with the soreness and pain of neck and shoulder. After 3 months of EA treatment, a significant reduction in the inner diameter of the left C5 to C7 root at the outlet of brachial plexus nerve was detected by musculoskeletal ultrasound, and the soreness and pain in the left neck and shoulder were significantly reduced. The soreness and pain in the left neck and shoulder did not recur for 2 years.Case summaryThe patient is a 46-year-old female with BPI. She experienced difficult in lifting, flexing and extending of the left upper limb, which accompanied by soreness and pain in the left neck and shoulder. After 3 months of EA treatment, the patient's pain and limb's movement disorder was improved. After 2 years of follow-up, the patient's left neck and shoulder showed no further pain.ConclusionEA has shown satisfied efficacy in BPI, improving limb restrictions and relieving pain in patients for at least 2 years.

Abstract Background The objective of this study was to investigate the characteristics of emergencies and the requirement for emergency treatment after the suspension of orthodontic appointments. The attitude towards orthodontic treatment preference was evaluated as well, including receiving orthodontic treatment and the preference for orthodontic appliances. Subjects and methods An electronic questionnaire was distributed to the patients, including 4 sections: Section 1 – demographic and basic information; Section 2 – the characteristics of emergencies and emergency treatment requirements; Section 3 – the NRS-11 for pain and Manchester Orofacial Pain Disability Scale used to evaluate the intensity of orofacial pain and disability; and Section 4 – attitudes towards receiving orthodontic treatment and appliance preference. Elymus nutans is a perennial grass of the Gramineae family. Due to its cold-resistance and nutrition deficiency tolerance, it has been applied to the ecological restoration of degraded alpine grassland on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. As an important symbiotic microorganism, arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) have been proven to have great potential in promoting the growth and stress resistance of Gramineae grasses. However, the response mechanism of the AMF needs to be clarified. Therefore, in this study, Rhizophagus irregularis was used to explore the mechanism regulating cold resistance of E. nutans. Based on pot experiments and metabolomics, the effects of R. irregularis were investigated on the activities of antioxidant enzyme and metabolites in the roots of E. nutans under cold stress (15/10°C, 16/8 h, day/night). The results showed that lipids and lipid molecules are the highest proportion of metabolites, accounting for 14.26% of the total metabolites. The inoculation with R. irregularis had no significant effects on the activities of antioxidant enzyme in the roots of E. nutans at room temperature. However, it can significantly change the levels of some lipids and other metabolites in the roots. Under cold stress, the antioxidant enzyme activities and the levels of some metabolites in the roots of E. nutans were significantly changed. Meanwhile, most of these metabolites were enriched in the pathways related to plant metabolism. According to the correlation analysis, the activities of antioxidant enzyme were closely related to the levels of some metabolites, such as flavonoids and lipids. In conclusion, AMF may regulate the cold-resistance of Gramineae grasses by affecting plant metabolism, antioxidant enzyme activities and antioxidant-related metabolites like flavonoids and lipids. These results can provide some basis for studying the molecular mechanism of AMF regulating stress resistance of Gramineae grasses.

Objective: To solve the problem of sour taste in raw chestnut rose juice, and to develop its blended fruit-vegetable juice with good taste quality, sweet and sour taste and high stability. Methods: The raw chestnut rose juice was first deastringented with gelatin adsorption or β-cyclodextrin embedding, and then it was blended with freshly prepared pear juice and pumpkin pulp, finally the pasteurization parameters of blended fruit-vegetable juice were optimized. Results: By adding 0.5% gelatin, the tannin removal rate of raw chestnut rose juice could reach 63.00%. According to the sensory evaluation results and basic physical and chemical indexes, the optimal ratio of compound fruit and vegetable juice was determined as follows: The volume ratio of golden thorn pear juice:pear juice:pumpkin pulp was 34:40:26. Abstract Ultrashort laser pulses have been utilized to dynamically drive phase transitions in correlated quantum materials. Of particular interest is whether phases not achievable in thermal equilibrium can be induced in complex oxides with intricately coupled lattice, electron and spin degrees of freedom. Here, we tracked atomic motions in LaMnO3 following photoexcitation with MeV ultrafast electron diffraction (MeV-UED) technique. We found that the light excited state exhibits numerous signatures different from thermal equilibrium ones, including nearly conserved Bragg intensities, strongly suppressed La cation and oxygen anion displacements, and the long-range lattice orthorhombicity evolution. Furthermore, using first-principles calculations, we predict that the ferromagnetic ordering and conductivity are both enhanced upon laser excitation due to the reduction of the lattice orthorhombicity. This work benefits from recent advance in fabrication of membrane films with high epitaxial quality and in MeV-UED with large momentum space access and high temporal resolution.

Abstract Molybdenum carbide (MoxC) with variable phase structure possesses flexible hydrogen‐binding energy (HBE), which is a promising hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) catalyst. Herein, a hybrid multiphase MoxC freestanding film coupled with Co3Mo (CM/MoxC@NC) is synthesized through the electrospinning method supplemented by the heteroatom incorporation. CM/MoxC@NC surpasses its pure phase counterparts and exhibits remarkable catalytic activity at 114 mV to deliver a current density of 10 mA cm−2 in acid, which is among the first‐rate level performance reported for MoxC‐based catalysts. The subsequent ex situ and in situ characterizations reveal a phase transition mechanism based on self‐catalysis that CoOx depletes the coordinated C of α‐MoC via the interaction, which realizes the assembly of weak HBE α‐MoC and strong HBE β‐Mo2C, and the enhanced utilization of active materials as well. The multiple structures with optimal HBE are in favor of the stepwise reactions of HER, as the study of the correlation between HBE and phase structure revealed. This study discloses the underlying phase transition mechanism and highlights the HBE–structure relationship that should be considered for catalyst design.

The efficiency and stability of typical three-dimensional (3D) MAPbI3 perovskite-based solar cells are highly restricted, due to the weak interaction between methylammonium (MA+) and [PbI6]4-octahedra in the 3D structure, which can cause the ion migration and the related defects. Here, we found that the in situ-grown perovskitoid TEAPbI3 layer on 3D MAPbI3 can inhibit the MA+ migration in a polar solvent, thus enhancing the thermal and moisture stability of perovskite films. The crystal structure and orientation of TEAPbI3 are reported for the first time by single crystal and synchrotron radiation analysis. The ultra-thin perovskitoid layer can reduce the trap states and accelerate photo-carrier diffusion in perovskite solar cells, as confirmed by ultra-fast spectroscopy. The power conversion efficiency of TEAPbI3-MAPbI3 based solar cells increases from 18.87% to 21.79% with enhanced stability. This work suggests that passivation and stabilization by in situ-grown perovskitoid can be a promising strategy for efficient and stable perovskite solar cells.

Abstract Multi-objective problems in real world are often contradictory and even change over time. As we know, how to find the changing Pareto front quickly and accurately is challenging during the process of solving dynamic multi-objective optimization problems (DMOPs). In addition, most solutions obey different distributions in decision space and the performance of NSGA-III when dealing with DMOPs should be further improved. In this paper, centroid distance is proposed and combined into NSGA-III with transfer learning together for DMOPs, called TC_NSGAIII. Centroid distance-based strategy is regarded as a prediction method to prevent some inappropriate individuals through measuring the distance of the population centroid and reference points. After the distance strategy, transfer learning is used for generating an initial population using the past experience. To verify the effectiveness of our proposed algorithm, NSGAIII, Tr_NSGAIII (NSGA-III combining with transfer learning only), Ce_NSGAIII (NSGA-III combining with centroid distance only), and TC_NSGAIII are compared. Seven state-of-the-art algorithms have been used for comparison on CEC 2015 benchmarks. Besides, transfer learning and centroid distance are regarded as a dynamic strategy, which is incorporated into three static algorithms, and the performance improvement is measured. What’s more, twelve benchmark functions from CEC 2015 and eight sets of parameters in each function are used in our experiments. The experimental results show that the performance of algorithms can be greatly improved through the proposed approach.

The establishment of artificial grassland is crucial in restoring degraded grassland and resolving the forage–livestock conflict, and the application of organic fertilizer and complementary seeding of grass–legume mixture are effective methods to enhance grass growth in practice. However, its mechanism behind the underground is largely unclear. Here, by utilizing organic fertilizer in the alpine region of the Qinghai–Tibet Plateau, this study assessed the potential of grass–legume mixtures with and without the inoculation of Rhizobium for the restoration of degraded grassland. The results demonstrated that the application of organic fertilizer can increase the forage yield and soil nutrient contents of degraded grassland, and they were 0.59 times and 0.28 times higher than that of the control check (CK), respectively. The community composition and structure of soil bacteria and fungi were also changed by applying organic fertilizer. Based on this, the grass–legume mixture inoculated with Rhizobium can further increase the contribution of organic fertilizer to soil nutrients and thus enhance the restoration effects for degraded artificial grassland. Moreover, the application of organic fertilizer significantly increased the colonization of gramineous plant by native mycorrhizal fungi, which was ~1.5–2.0 times higher than CK. This study offers a basis for the application of organic fertilizer and grass–legume mixture in the ecological restoration of degraded grassland.

Precious metal-based materials such as commercial Pt/C are available electrocatalysts for redox reactions in Zn-air batteries. However, their commercial use is still limited by slow kinetics and restricted stability. In this work, we highlight a facial urea-assisted sol-gel method to synthesize A-site vacancy in LaMnO3+δ oxide for boosting its catalytic activity and further explore the effect of the amount of urea on the A-site LaMnO3. The A-site vacancy in LMO was confirmed by XRD, TEM, and XPS, which revealed that the urea-assisted sol-gel method mitigated the A-site vacancy in LaMnO3+δ and increased its surface area, thus ultimately accelerating its redox reaction kinetics. The half-wave potential and current density of the resultant 3.0U-LMO electrocatalyst were 0.74 V and 5.74 mA cm−2, respectively. It is worth noting that the assembled Zn-air battery with the 3.0U-LMO catalyst presented a power output of 130.04 mW cm−2 at 0.51 V and a promising energy efficiency of 58.4% after 150 cycles. This protocol might offer an efficient approach for developing new defect-regulated perovskites for electrocatalysis.

For removing wax and reducing viscosity of wax, microbial technology can effectively be used, and thereby, by using this technology, the flow properties of crude oil are improved. In this study, optimization of compound bacteria isolated from oil-contaminated soil and its effect on wax content and particle size are investigated. Moreover, experimental results show that the optimized compound bacteria have the highest cell density value under the optimal conditions. After #11 and #12 compound bacteria are added, the wax content reduces from 21.46% to 8.3%, and the wax removal rate becomes 61.32%. In addition, the polarizing microscope analysis demonstrates that the paraffin is degraded with the bacteria, and its wax crystal micro-structure is changed with the bacteria. Moreover, the focused beam reflectance measurement (FBRM) shows that the proportion of particles of large diameter is significantly decreased, and that of small ones is increased. Consequently, the flow properties of waxy crude oil are improved. The viscosity changes at different temperatures after treatment with bacteria. Finally, it is found out that at the temperature which is equal to 40 to 45 ºC, the rate of viscosity reduction is higher than 60%. Therefore, the paraffinic hydrocarbons of crude oil can be degraded with compound bacteria, and their rheological properties are improved.

Chemical fertilizers are gradually being replaced with new biological fertilizers, which can improve the soil and soil microorganisms. In this experiment, leguminous forage (Medicago sativa cv. Beilin 201) was used as the research object. By measuring alfalfa root systems and soil properties and using high-throughput sequencing technology, we investigated the effect of biological (rhizobial) fertilizer at different concentrations on soil fertility and alfalfa rhizosphere microbiota in alpine grasslands. The results demonstrated that the treatment with biofertilizer significantly reduced total nitrogen (TN) and total organic carbon (TOC) content in soils, increased root densities, and significantly increased the number of root nodules in alfalfa. There were differences in the response of rhizosphere microorganisms to different concentrations of biofertilizer, and the treatment with biofertilizer led to pronounced changes in the microbial community structure. The abundance of beneficial bacteria such as Rhizobium, Arthrobacter, and Pseudomonas was significantly increased. The Pearson correlation analysis showed that soil moisture and soil conductivity were significantly positively correlated with the observed richness of rhizosphere microbiota (p < 0.05). Meanwhile, Actinobacteria showed a significantly positive correlation with nitrate, TOC, and TN (p < 0.01). These results indicated that biofertilizers enhanced soil fertility and altered the rhizosphere microbiota of alfalfa in alpine grassland.

The effects of organic fertilizer application on the soil microbial community in grassland systems have been extensively studied. However, the effects of organic fertilizers on the structure of rhizosphere microbial communities are still limited. In this study, the diversity and composition of rhizosphere microbial communities of a gramineous grass Elymus nutans under organic fertilizer treatment were studied in an artificial pasture on Qinghai–Tibet Plateau. After a growing season, the application of organic fertilizer not only increased the height and biomass of Elymus nutans, but also changed the rhizosphere microbial compositions. In particular, organic fertilizer increased the diversity of rhizosphere bacterial community and inhibited the growth of pathogenic bacteria such as Acinetobacter, but the opposite trend was observed for the diversity of fungal community. The assembly process of fungal community was changed from a stochastic process to a deterministic process, indicating that selection was strengthened. Additionally, both the infection rate of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) toward host plants and the development of AMF-related structures were significantly increased after the application of organic fertilizer. Our study demonstrated that the addition of organic fertilizer to artificial pasture could improve the growth of grass through the alteration of the rhizosphere microbial communities. Organic fertilizer had a greater selectivity for the bacterial and the fungal communities that enhanced the niche filtration in this community, further benefiting the yield of forages.

Turnip, one of the oldest groups of cultivated Brassica rapa species, is a traditional crop as well as a form of animal fodder, a vegetable, and a herbal medicine that is widely cultivated in farming and farming-pastoral regions in Tibet. Different regions of the Qinghai–Tibet Plateau (QTP) are home to a rich diversity of turnip owing to their high altitudes and variable climate types. However, information on the morphology and genetic diversity of Tibetan turnip remains limited. Therefore, the genetic diversity of 171 turnip varieties from China and elsewhere (Japan, Korea, and Europe) was analyzed using 58 morphological characteristics and 31 simple sequence repeat (SSR) markers in this study. The varieties showed that the genetic distance ranged from 0.12 to 1.00, and the genetic similarity coefficient ranged between 0.73 and 0.95. Cluster tree showed two distinct clusters. Both morphotype and geography contributed to the group classification. A combination of morphological traits and molecular markers could refine the precision of accurate identification compared to the separate morphological and molecular data analyses. The sampling ratio of 15% to utmost precisely represent the initial population was compared to ratios of 10% and 20%, and the sampling ratio of 15% is recommended for future works when a primary core collection of turnip resources is constructed. These results could furnish a foundation for germplasm conservation and effective turnip breeding in future studies.

Many studies have reported that hypocrellin A (HA) exhibits effective antimicrobial activities with proper irradiation. However, its antifungal activity and the involved mechanism have not been fully defined. In this study, HA-mediated cytotoxicity in Candida albicans cells was evaluated after antimicrobial photodynamic therapy (aPDT). The results showed that 1.0 μg/ml HA significantly decreased the survival rate of C. albicans cells with light illumination. Moreover, the ROS levels were also remarkably elevated by HA. Further study found that HA combined with illumination led to cell membrane potential depolarization and cell membrane integrity damage. To investigate the form of cell death, a series of apoptosis-related parameters, including mitochondrial transmembrane potential, metacaspase activity, DNA fragmentation, nuclear condensation, and cytosolic and mitochondrial calcium, were analyzed. Data showed that all the above mentioned apoptosis hallmarks were affected after treatment with HA, indicating that HA induced C. albicans cell apoptosis. Finally, HA-mediated aPDT was demonstrated to be low-toxic and effective in treating cutaneous C. albicans infections. This study highlights the antifungal effect and mechanism of HA-mediated aPDT against C. albicans and provides a promising photodynamic antifungal candidate for C. albicans skin infections.

Network security is one of the most important issues in mobile sensor networks (MSNs). Networks are particularly vulnerable in hostile environments because of many factors, such as uncertain mobility, limitations on computation, and the need for storage in mobile nodes. Though some location-based security mechanisms can resist some malicious attacks, they are only suitable for static networks and may sometimes require large amounts of storage. To solve these problems, using location information, which is one of the most important properties in outdoor wireless networks, a security mechanism called a moving security area (MSA) is proposed to resist malicious attacks by using mobile nodes’ dynamic location-based keys. The security mechanism is layered by performing different detection schemes inside or outside the MSA. The location-based private keys will be updated only at the appropriate moments, considering the balance of cost and security performance. By transferring parts of the detection tasks from ordinary nodes to the sink node, the memory requirements are distributed to different entities to save limited energy.
