Abstract The purpose of this study is to systematically analyze the development trend, research hotspots, and future development direction on the treatment of neuropathic pain (NP) with spinal cord stimulation through bibliometric method. We extracted the literature related to the treatment of NP with spinal cord stimulation from January 2004 to December 2023 from the Web of Science database. As a result, a total of 264 articles were retrieved. By analyzing the annual published articles, authors, countries, institutions, journals, co-cited literature, and keywords, we found that the count of publication in this field has been experiencing an overall growth, and the publications within the past 5 years accounted for 42% of the total output. Experts from the United States and the UK have made significant contributions in this field and established a stable collaborative team, initially establishing an international cooperation network. Pain is the frequently cited journal in this field. The study on spinal cord stimulation therapy for NP especially the study on spinal cord stimulation therapy for back surgery failure syndrome (FBSS) and its potential mechanisms are the research hotspots in this field, while the study on novel paradigms such as high-frequency spinal cord stimulation and spinal cord burst stimulation represents the future development directions. In short, spinal cord stimulation has been an effective treatment method for NP. The novel paradigms of spinal cord stimulation are the key point of future research in this field.

Abstract Jinlida granule (JLD) is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formula used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). However, the mechanism of JLD treatment for T2DM is not fully revealed. In this study, we explored the mechanism of JLD against T2DM by an integrative pharmacology strategy. Active components and corresponding targets were retrieved from Traditional Chinese Medicine System Pharmacology (TCMSP), SwissADME and Bioinformatics Analysis Tool for Molecular Mechanisms of Traditional Chinese Medicine Database (BATMAN-TCM) database. T2DM-related targets were obtained from Drugbank and Genecards databases. The protein–protein interaction (PPI) network was constructed and analyzed with STRING (Search Toll for the Retrieval of Interacting Genes/proteins) and Cytoscape to get the key targets. Then, Gene Ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Gene and Genomes (KEGG) enrichment analyses were performed with the Database for Annotation, Visualization and Integrated Discovery (DAVID). Lastly, the binding capacities and reliability between potential active components and the targets were verified with molecular docking and molecular dynamics simulation. In total, 185 active components and 337 targets of JLD were obtained. 317 targets overlapped with T2DM-related targets. RAC-alpha serine/threonine-protein kinase (AKT1), tumor necrosis factor (TNF), interleukin-6 (IL-6), cellular tumor antigen p53 (TP53), prostaglandin G/H synthase 2 (PTGS2), Caspase-3 (CASP3) and signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3) were identified as seven key targets by the topological analysis of the PPI network. GO and KEGG enrichment analyses showed that the effects were primarily associated with gene expression, signal transduction, apoptosis and inflammation. The pathways were mainly enriched in PI3K-AKT signaling pathway and AGE-RAGE signaling pathway in diabetic complications. Molecular docking and molecular dynamics simulation verified the good binding affinity between the key components and targets. The predicted results may provide a theoretical basis for drug screening of JLD and a new insight for the therapeutic effect of JLD on T2DM.

Abstract Background Stroke stands as the second leading cause of death worldwide. Currently, extensive research has been conducted on stroke risk factors. However, when stroke patients contend with multiple risk factors, the impact on clinical indicators remains uncertain. Objectives This study seeks to investigate potential significant variations among distinct ranges of clinical indicators in instances where stroke patients experience multiple risk factors and various ischemic stroke subtypes. Material and methods The research encompassed 440 stroke patients admitted to the First People's Hospital of Wenling City, Zhejiang Province, China. These patients were classified based on the type and quantity of risk factors and subtypes of ischemic stroke they presented. Abstract Background This study aimed to investigate the interactions among three core elements of respiratory infection—pathogen, lung microbiome, and host response—and their avocation with the severity and outcomes of Mycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia (MPP) in children. Methods We prospectively collected bronchoalveolar lavage fluid from a cohort of 41 children with MPP, including general MPP (GMPP) and complicated MPP (CMPP), followed by microbiome and transcriptomic analyses to characterize the association among pathogen, lung microbiome, and host response and correlate it with the clinical features and outcomes. Results The lung microbiome of patients with CMPP had an increased relative abundance of Mycoplasma pneumoniae (MP) and reduced alpha diversity, with 76 differentially expressed species. Host gene analysis revealed a key module associated with neutrophil function and several inflammatory response pathways. Patients with a high relative abundance of MP, manifested by a specific lung microbiome and host response type, were more prone to CMPP and had a long imaging recovery time. Conclusion Patients with CMPP have a more disrupted lung microbiome than those with GMPP. MP, lung microbiome, and host response interacts with each other and are closely related to disease severity and outcomes in children with MPP. Graphical Abstract

Abstract Anaplastic thyroid carcinoma (ATC) is the most advanced and aggressive thyroid cancer, and poorly differentiated thyroid carcinoma (PDTC) lacks anaplastic histology but has lost architectural and cytologic differentiation. Only a few studies have focused on the genetic relationship between the two advanced carcinomas and coexisting differentiated thyroid carcinomas (DTCs). In the present study, we investigated clinicopathologic features and genetic profiles in 57 ATC and PDTC samples, among which 33 cases had concomitant DTC components or DTC history. We performed immunohistochemistry for BRAF V600E, p53, and PD‐L1 expression, Sanger sequencing for TERT promoter and RAS mutations, and fluorescence in situ hybridization for ALK and RET rearrangements. We found that ATCs and PDTCs shared similar gene alterations to their coexisting DTCs, and most DTCs were aggressive subtypes harboring frequent TERT promoter mutations. A significantly higher proportion of ATCs expressed p53 and PD‐L1, and a lower proportion expressed PAX‐8 and TTF‐1, than the coexisting DTCs. Our findings provide more reliable evidence that ATCs and PDTCs are derived from DTCs.

Abstract Background Many gaps remain in our understanding of the immune and molecular characteristics that underlie activated phosphoinositide 3‐kinase delta syndrome (APDS). Methods We performed RNA sequencing of peripheral blood leukocytes obtained from a child with APDS and his healthy parents and deconvoluted bulk transcriptional data to assess immune cell status. Results Pathway enrichment analysis suggested signaling pathways enriched in virus infection as well as the PI3K, mitogen‐activated protein kinase (MAPK), natural killer cell‐mediated cytotoxicity, and nucleotide‐binding oligomerization domain (NOD)‐like receptor signaling pathways. The proportion of B cells memory, T cells CD4 memory resting and dendritic cells activated were reduced, whereas B cells naïve, T cells CD8, NK cells resting, monocytes and macrophages M2 were increased in the child. Top 10 hub genes were screened and showed moderate to strong relatedness with immune cell proportions. Conclusion Deconvolution of bulk RNA sequencing to assess immune cells status can provide further insight into the alterations in immunological features underlying APDS and other rare diseases.

IntroductionMycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia (MPP) may lead to various significant outcomes, such as necrotizing pneumonia(NP) and refractory MPP (RMPP). We investigated the potential of the peripheral blood neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) to predict outcomes in patients with MPP.Methods and materialsThis was a prospective study of patients with MPP who were admitted to our hospital from 2019 to 2021. Demographic and clinical data were collected from patient records and associated with the development of NP and RMPP and other outcome measures.ResultsOf the 1,401 patients with MPP included in the study, 30 (2.1%) developed NP. BackgroundTransitioning from marriage to widowhood presents inevitable and significant challenges for many older adults. This study explored the impact of widowhood on a range of mental health outcomes, including pulse pressure and fasting blood glucose levels, among older adults in nursing homes.MethodsThis cross-sectional study utilized cluster random sampling to recruit participants, with data analyzed from 388 older Chinese adults. Psychosocial traits were assessed using the Perceived Social Support from Family scale (PSS-Fa) for family support, the Generalized Anxiety Disorder 7-item scale (GAD-7) for anxiety symptoms, and the 9-item Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9) for depressive symptoms and suicidal ideation. Propensity score matching (PSM) was employed to control for confounding factors. A multivariate linear regression analysis was performed to explore the relationship between widowhood, mental health outcomes, pulse pressure, and fasting blood glucose levels.ResultsAfter applying PSM, the sample size was refined to 268 (N = 134 for both married and widowed groups) from the initial 388, excluding 120 unmatched cases. Abstract Background Symptom networks can provide empirical evidence for the development of personalized and precise symptom management strategies. However, few studies have explored the symptom networks of multidimensional symptom experiences in cancer survivors. The objectives of this study were to generate symptom networks of multidimensional symptom experiences in cancer survivors and explore the centrality indices and density in these symptom networks Methods Data from 1065 cancer survivors were obtained from the Shanghai CANcer Survivor (SCANS) Report. The MD Anderson Symptom Inventory was used to assess the prevalence and severity of 13 cancer‐related symptoms. We constructed contemporaneous networks with all 13 symptoms after controlling for covariates. Results Distress (rs = 9.18, rc = 0.06), sadness (rs = 9.05, rc = 0.06), and lack of appetite (rs = 9.04, rc = 0.06) had the largest values for strength and closeness. IntroductionMycoplasma pneumoniae (MP) is a major pathogen of community-acquired pneumonia in children. However, the specific pathogenesis of the progression of Mycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia (MPP) is unclear. We aimed to reveal the landscape of microbiota and the host immune response in MPP.MethodsThis self-controlled study analyzed the microbiome and transcriptome of bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) from the severe side (SD) and opposite side (OD) of 41 children with MPP from January to December 2021 and revealed the differences of the peripheral blood neutrophil function among children with mild MPP, severe MPP, and healthy children through transcriptome sequencing.ResultsThe MP load or the pulmonary microbiota had no significant difference between the SD group and OD group, and the deterioration of MPP was related to the immune response, especially the intrinsic immune response.DiscussionThe immune response plays a role in MPP, which may inform treatment strategies for MPP.

Although metastasis is the major cause of death in cervical cancer, the mechanism of metastasis is still unclear. The mRNA expression and protein level of latent transforming growth factor beta binding protein 1 (LTBP1) were detected in tumor tissues and paracancerous tissues from in-house samples. Cell proliferation, cell cycle, migration, and in vivo metastasis were determined after LTBP1 was knocked down. Then, 13 drugs were screened, and the changes in cell apoptosis and proliferation and tumor metastasis were detected after drug treatment in shRNA cells. In our in-house samples, LTBP1 was lowly expressed in cervical cancer tissues. After LTBP1 knockdown, cell proliferation was increased, and the ability of in vitro migration and in vivo metastasis was enhanced. At the same time, the proportion of myeloid derived suppressor cells (MDSC) in situ increased, the proportion of T cells decreased, and transforming growth factor beta-1 (TGFβ1) signaling was activated. After carboplatin treatment, LTBP1 shRNA cell line apoptosis increased, metastasis in vivo was limited, and the proportion of MDSC in situ decreased. LTBP1 was lowly expressed in cervical cancer, and the inhibition of LTBP1 can improve the malignant degree of the tumor, and this process can be blocked by carboplatin.

Land covers provide essential information for understanding and detecting ecosystem, resources, and environmental dynamics. However, they are generally mapped at coarser temporal scales to study the inter-annual changes, while scant attention has been paid to map intra-annual land cover dynamics at finer temporal scales. Moreover, existing studies are still limited in intra-annual land cover mapping with dense satellite image time series (SITS). Accordingly, this study proposed a novel approach to accurately classify dense SITS for mapping intra-annual land cover dynamics. First, dense SITS is segmented at multiple spatiotemporal scales to generate optimal spatiotemporal cubes (ST-cubes), which are chosen as classification units. Second, the ST-cubes based on spectral, textural, spatial, and temporal features are integratively defined and employed in SITS classification. Third, the spatiotemporal context is modeled by a spatiotemporally extended conditional random field model that measures both spatiotemporal features and semantic correlation between geographic objects. Finally, the proposed method is applied to map the intra-annual land cover dynamics. Comparative experiments of SITS classification are carried out between our method and three existing competitors in a suburban area in Beijing, China, with a dense Sentinel-2 SITS. Moreover, based on the classification results, we analyzed the quantitative intra-annual dynamics of land cover. The result shows that our approach achieves significant improvements in classification accuracy over existing methods, indicating the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed method in mapping intra-annual land cover dynamics with dense SITS.

Abstract Background X‐linked cone‐rod dystrophy (CORDX) is one form of inherited retinal disorders (IRDs) characterized by progressive dysfunction of photoreceptor. Three types of CORDX were reported and CACNA1F gene defect can cause CORDX3. The aim of this study was to investigate the pathogenic variant in a Chinese family with IRD. Methods The two affected subjects including the proband and his elder sister underwent ophthalmic examinations. Whole exome sequencing (WES) was performed in the proband at first, then co‐segregation analysis was performed in the family by Sanger sequencing. Minigene approach was used to verify the effect of the mutation on the splicing of CACNA1F. X‐chromosomal inactivation assay was performed to evaluate the inactivation patterns of the female carriers. Results The ophthalmic examination results of the proband fit the clinical description of CORDX3, and the female patient presented with only mild symptoms due to mildly skewed X‐chromosomal inactivation (ratio 67: 33). Molecular genetic testing identified a novel splice‐site mutation c.3847‐2A > G in CACNA1F (NM_005183.4) gene in the patients, which inherited from their asymptomatic mother. Minigene approach confirmed that c.3847‐2A > G could affect the splicing of CACNA1F. Conclusion Our study identified a novel splice‐site mutation in the CACNA1F gene, which expanded the mutational spectrum of CACNA1F‐releated diseases and demonstrated the importance of combining clinical and genetic testing in the diagnosis of IRDs.

Background: Ovarian cancer (OC) is a highly heterogeneous disease, of which the mesenchymal subtype has the worst prognosis, is the most aggressive, and has the highest drug resistance. The cell cycle pathway plays a vital role in ovarian cancer development and progression. We aimed to screen the key cell cycle genes that regulated the mesenchymal subtype and construct a robust signature for ovarian cancer risk stratification.Methods: Network inference was conducted by integrating the differentially expressed cell cycle signature genes and target genes between the mesenchymal and non-mesenchymal subtypes of ovarian cancer and identifying the dominant cell cycle signature genes.Results: Network analysis revealed that two cell cycle signature genes (POLA2 and KIF20B) predominantly regulated the mesenchymal modalities of OC and used to construct a prognostic model, termed the Cell Cycle Prognostic Signature of Ovarian Cancer (CCPOC). The CCPOC-high patients showed an unfavorable prognosis in the GSE26712 cohort, consistent with the results in the seven public validation cohorts and one independent internal cohort (BL-OC cohort, qRT-PCR, n = 51). Functional analysis, drug-sensitive analysis, and survival analysis showed that CCPOC-low patients were related to strengthened tumor immunogenicity and sensitive to the anti-PD-1/PD-L1 response rate in pan-cancer (r = −0.47, OC excluded), which indicated that CCPOC-low patients may be more sensitive to anti-PD-1/PD-L1.Conclusion: We constructed and validated a subtype-specific, cell cycle-based prognostic signature for ovarian cancer, which has great potential for predicting the response of anti-PD-1/PD-L1.

Remote sensing mapping is an important research direction in the development of geographic surveying and mapping. In order to successfully implement the project of Mapping Western China (MWC), a technical mapping system has been established. In this project, many problems have been solved through technological innovation, such as block adjustment with scarce control points, large-scale aerial/satellite image mapping, and intelligent interpretation of multi-source images. Several softwares were developed, e.g. PixelGrid for aerial/satellite image mapping in a large area, FeatureStation for the integration of multi-source data in the complex terrain areas, and an airborne multi-band and multi-polarization interferometric data acquisition system for SAR mapping. For the first time, full coverage of 1: 50,000 topographic data of China’s land territory has been produced, which means the geospatial framework of digital China is basically completed. With the implementation of other key national plans and projects (i.e. national geographic conditions monitoring and national remote sensing mapping), the focus has changed from MWC to national dynamic mapping. Accordingly, a dynamic mapping system is established. The data acquisition capability has developed from a single source to multiple sources and multiple modalities. The mapping capability has developed into dynamic mapping, and the capability for database update shows the characteristics of collaboration. The national geographic condition monitoring creates a multi-scale index system for statistical analysis for various needs. A multi-level and multi-dimensional technical system for statistical computing and decision-making service is developed for the transformation from dynamic monitoring to information service. In this paper, we give a brief introduction about the recent development of remote sensing mapping in China with respect to data acquisition, map production, and information service. The purpose of this paper is to motivate the establishment of theory and method for remote sensing mapping, technical and equipment in the smart mapping era, to improve the capability of perceiving, analyzing, mining, and applying geographic data, and to promote the intelligent development of geographic surveying and mapping.

ObjectivesTo investigate the roles that Toll-like receptors (TLRs) play in lung inflammation mediated by Mycoplasma pneumoniae (MP).MethodsThe changes in TLRs and tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α) in peripheral blood of children with M. pneumoniae pneumonia (MPP) were monitored, and the interactions of signaling molecules regulating TNF-α release in A549 cells and neutrophils after M. pneumoniae stimulation were investigated. In TLR2 knockout (TLR2-/-) mice, the levels of TNF-α in bronchial alveolar lavage fluid (BALF) and peripheral blood after mycoplasma infection and the pathological changes in the lung tissue of mice were detected.ResultsTNF-α levels in peripheral blood of children with MPP were higher than those in non-infected children, and children with refractory MPP had the highest levels of TNF-α and TLR2. TNF-α secretion and TLR2, myeloid differentiation primary response 88 (MyD88) and phospho-p65(p-p65) levels were increased in stimulated cells. TNF-α secretion was suppressed upon siRNA-mediated TLR2 silencing. Pharmacological inhibition of nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-κB) and MyD88 effectively reduced TNF-α expression. Compared with wild-type mice, the TNF-α in serum and BALF decreased, and lung pro-inflammatory response was partially suppressed in TLR2-/- mice.ConclusionWe concluded that TLR2 regulates M. pneumoniae-mediated lung inflammation and TNF-α release through the TLR2-MyD88-NF-κB signaling pathway.

Comprehensively understanding the factors influencing crime is a prerequisite for preventing and combating crime. Although some studies have investigated the relationship between environmental factors and property crime, the interaction between factors was not fully considered in these studies, and the explanation of complex factors may be insufficient. This paper explored the influence of environmental factors on property crime using factor regression and factor interaction based on data from the central city of Lanzhou, China. Our findings showed that: (1) The distribution of crime cases showed the pattern of a local multi-center. Shop density, hotel density, entertainment density and house price were the four dominant environmental drivers of property crime; (2) The relationship between the light intensity and property crime had different correlation explanations in temporal projection and spatial projection. There was a normal distribution curve between the number of property crimes and the Price-to-Earnings Ratio (PE Ratio) of the community house price; and (3) The results of the factor interaction indicated that the effect of all factors on crime showed a two-factor enhancement. As an important catalyst, shop density had the strongest interaction with other factors. Shop density gradient influenced the degree of interpretation of spatial heterogeneity of property crime.

Background: Recurring outbreaks of infectious diseases highlight the importance of population vaccination strategies. We aimed to assess the impact of national vaccination strategies on vaccine-preventable infectious diseases (VPDs) in Shanghai, China and to identify vulnerable groups that may benefit from future vaccination policies. Methods: Infectious disease data from 1953 to 2018 was obtained from Xuhui District Center for Disease Control and Prevention, Shanghai China. We used joinpoint regression to show incidence, mortality and fatality trends and to determine annual percent change in incidence of 12 VPDs among three eras of national immunization strategies: (1)1953–1977, (2)1978–2007, and(3)2008–2018. Findings: Incidence, mortality, and fatality from VPDs have decreased drastically over the three eras, despite the inclusion of more diseases over time. Strikingly, the overall yearly incidence of VPDs shows an increasing trend from 2000 to 2018 in Shanghai (annual percentage changes, APC:7.7, p = 0.025). In the third era (2008–2018), the three VPDs with the highest incidence were varicella (80.2 cases/100,000), hand, foot, and mouth disease (HFMD) (73.6 cases/100,000), and hepatitis (43.5 cases/100,000). Tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) plays an important pathogenic role in cardiac hypertrophy and heart failure (HF); however, anti-TNF is paradoxically negative in clinical trials and even worsens HF, indicating a possible protective role of TNF-α in HF. TNF-α exists in transmembrane (tmTNF-α) and soluble (sTNF-α) forms. Herein, we found that TNF receptor 1 (TNFR1) knockout (KO) or knockdown (KD) by short hairpin RNA or small interfering RNA (siRNA) significantly alleviated cardiac hypertrophy, heart dysfunction, fibrosis, and inflammation with increased tmTNF-α expression, whereas TNFR2 KO or KD exacerbated the pathological phenomena with increased sTNF-α secretion in transverse aortic constriction (TAC)- and isoproterenol (ISO)-induced cardiac hypertrophy in vivo and in vitro, respectively, indicating the beneficial effects of TNFR2 associated with tmTNF-α. Suppressing TNF-α converting enzyme by TNF-α Protease Inhibitor-1 (TAPI-1) to increase endogenous tmTNF-α expression significantly alleviated TAC-induced cardiac hypertrophy. Importantly, direct addition of exogenous tmTNF-α into cardiomyocytes in vitro significantly reduced ISO-induced cardiac hypertrophy and transcription of the pro-inflammatory cytokines and induced proliferation. The beneficial effects of tmTNF-α were completely blocked by TNFR2 KD in H9C2 cells and TNFR2 KO in primary myocardial cells. Furthermore, we demonstrated that tmTNF-α displayed antihypertrophic and anti-inflammatory effects by activating the AKT pathway and inhibiting the nuclear factor (NF)-κB pathway via TNFR2. Our data suggest that tmTNF-α exerts cardioprotective effects via TNFR2. Specific targeting of tmTNF-α processing, rather than anti-TNF therapy, may be more useful for the treatment of hypertrophy and HF.

Our aim was to determine whether the long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) metastasis-associated lung adenocarcinoma transcript 1 (MALAT1) is involved in Mycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia (MPP), and its possible mechanism of action. MALAT1 expression in the bronchoalveolar lavage fluid of 50 hospitalized children with MPP was compared to its expression in 30 children with intrabronchial foreign bodies. MALAT1 expression was higher in children with MPP, accompanied by increased inflammatory mediators interleukin 8 (IL-8) and tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α), compared to the controls. In human airway epithelial cells infected with wild-type Mycoplasma pneumoniae (strain M129), MALAT1, IL-8, and TNF-α expression significantly increased, and increased expression of IL-8 and TNF-α could be suppressed by MALAT1 knockdown. Luciferase reporter gene assay and western blot showed that knockdown of MALAT1 reduced nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB) activation. In vivo, RNAi packaged with adenovirus (Adv) was nasally transfected into BALB/c mice to silence MALAT1, and an MP-infected mouse pneumonia model was prepared. The results demonstrated that the degree of pulmonary inflammatory injury, vascular permeability, secretion of inflammatory factors, and expression of phosphorylated p65 (pp65) in MP-infected mice were partly reversed after MALAT1 knockdown compared to those in the controls. In conclusion, MALAT1 is involved in the regulation of airway and pulmonary inflammation caused by MP infection via NF-κB regulation.

The effect of bioorganic fertilizers on the rhizosphere bacterial community of Panax notoginseng and soil metabolism remains unknown. Here, we tracked the changes in the soil physicochemical properties, bacterial microbiota responses, and soil metabolic functions after the addition of a bioorganic fertilizer in a P. notoginseng field. The application of a bioorganic fertilizer reduced the soil acidification, improved the organic matter, and increased the contents of the total/available soil nutrients. Soil amendment with a bioorganic fertilizer significantly affected the structure of the rhizosphere bacterial community, leading to the enrichment of specific bacterial consortia such as Rhodanobacter, Arthrobacter, Sphingomonas, Devosia, Pseudolabrys, Luteimonas, Lysobacter, Nitrosospira, and Nakamurella. Previously, many of these genera have been associated with nutrient cycling, plant productivity, and disease suppression. Metabolome analysis further highlighted that the bioorganic fertilizer treatment significantly reduced phenolic acids and flavonoids and enhanced organic acids, saccharides and alcohols, and amino acids. This result indicates a high survival of bacterial microbiota in the rhizosphere and an availability of nutrients for P. notoginseng growth. This work showed that the application of bioorganic fertilizers significantly improves soil health status, alters soil metabolic functions, and stimulates a specific subset of rhizosphere microbiota for nutrient cycling and disease protection in P. notoginseng.

The present study investigated the potential changes in the structure of bacterial communities and their functional profiles in the rhizospheres of Panax notoginseng cultivated under field (CK) and pine forest conditions (T). The rhizospheres of two-year-old P. notoginseng plants were used to extract DNA for metagenomic sequencing and metabolites for metabolomic profiling. The results revealed a higher root weight (p < 0.05) in plants grown under the forest than CK. The rhizospheric bacterial community comprised mainly three dominant phyla including Acidobacteria, Proteobacteria, and Candidatus rokubacteria which accounted for 75% of the total microbial population. Among them, Acidobacteria was the most abundant bacterial taxa, accounting for 42.4% and 40.4% of the total populations in CK and T, respectively. Relative abundances of bacterial genera revealed that Bradyrhizobium, Candidatus koribacter and Edaphobacter, were the dominant genera in both groups. Comparatively, a higher Proteobacteria to Acidobacteria ratio was observed in forest rhizospheres than in field conditions. Candidatus Rokubacteria and Candidatus nitrostelea were identified as biomarker taxa in forest rhizospheres, while the same could be said for taxa belonging to betaproteobacteria and gammaproteobacteria, Burkholderiales and Verrucomicrobia for field rhizospheres. No differential metabolite contents were observed between the two rhizosphere groups, indicating no adverse effects of P. notoginseng cultivation on the soil quality under forest plantation.

Introduction The Smoking Control Regulation in Public Places (hereafter, the ‘regulations’) has been implemented in Shanghai since 2010. This study explores the changes in smoking prevalence and its influencing factors among urban Shanghai residents. Methods Two rounds of household investigations (the Health Status and Health Service Utilization Survey) were carried out using a multistage probability proportionate-to-size sampling method in an urbanized district in 2010 and 2015. Descriptive and logistic regression analyses were applied to the statistics. Results From 2010 to 2015, the standardized current smoking rate fell from 24.8% to 19.1% (38.3% to 32.0% among men, and 1.9% to 1.4% among women). Meanwhile, the standardized smoking cessation rate increased from 18.1% to 23.3%. Smoking prevalence in respondents aged 45 to 59 years was still higher than that of other age groups. Changes in smoking prevalence and cessation rates were more obvious in respondents aged 30–44 and over 75 years. Sex, age, education, marital status, and alcohol use were influencing factors of current smoking, while sex, age and alcohol use were influencing factors of smoking cessation. Conclusions The implementation of smoking control regulations may be beneficial for reducing smoking and increasing smoking cessation, especially among middle-aged and older men. Nevertheless, tobacco control in urban Shanghai still faces huge challenges. Therefore, more targeted and comprehensive measures should be taken.

Remote sensing (RS) image segmentation is an essential step in geographic object-based image analysis (GEOBIA) to ultimately derive “meaningful objects”. While many segmentation methods exist, most of them are not efficient for large data sets. Thus, the goal of this research is to develop an efficient parallel multi-scale segmentation method for RS imagery by combining graph theory and the fractal net evolution approach (FNEA). Specifically, a minimum spanning tree (MST) algorithm in graph theory is proposed to be combined with a minimum heterogeneity rule (MHR) algorithm that is used in FNEA. The MST algorithm is used for the initial segmentation while the MHR algorithm is used for object merging. An efficient implementation of the segmentation strategy is presented using data partition and the “reverse searching-forward processing” chain based on message passing interface (MPI) parallel technology. Segmentation results of the proposed method using images from multiple sensors (airborne, SPECIM AISA EAGLE II, WorldView-2, RADARSAT-2) and different selected landscapes (residential/industrial, residential/agriculture) covering four test sites indicated its efficiency in accuracy and speed. We conclude that the proposed method is applicable and efficient for the segmentation of a variety of RS imagery (airborne optical, satellite optical, SAR, high-spectral), while the accuracy is comparable with that of the FNEA method.

Introduction: Mycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia (MPP) may lead to various significant outcomes, such as necrotizing pneumonia(NP) and refractory MPP (RMPP). We investigated the potential of the peripheral blood neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) to predict outcomes in patients with MPP. Methods and materials: This was a prospective study of patients with MPP who were admitted to our hospital from 2019 to 2021. Demographic and clinical data were collected from patient records and associated with the development of NP and RMPP and other outcome measures. Results: Of the 1,401 patients with MPP included in the study, 30 (2.1%) developed NP. The NLR was an independent predictor of NP (odds ratio 1.153, 95% confidence interval 1.022-1.300, P=0.021). The probability of NP was greater in patients with a high NLR (=1.9) than in those with a low NLR (<1.9) (P<0.001). The NLR was also an independent predictor of RMPP (odds ratio 1.246, 95% confidence interval 1.102-1.408, P<0.005). Patients with a high NLR were more likely to develop NP and RMPP and require intensive care, and had longer total fever duration, longer hospital stays, and higher hospitalization expenses than those with a low NLR (all P<0.005). Discussion: The NLR can serve as a predictor of poor prognosis in patients with MPP. It can predict the occurrence of NP, RMPP, and other poor outcomes. The use of this indicator would allow the simple and rapid prediction of prognosis in the early stages of MPP, enabling the implementation of appropriate treatment strategies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: It was elucidated the anti-inflammatory active components and their mechanisms of action in the fruits of Diospyros lotus. Methods: Ultra-performance liquid chromatography-tandem quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (UPLC-Q-TOF-MS) was used to qualitatively analyze the chemical constituents of Diospyros lotus fruits, and combined with network pharmacology to explore the potential anti-inflammatory active components and their mechanisms of action, and validated the results by molecular docking. Results: A total of 26 flavonoid compounds, including 10 myricetin derivatives, 7 quercetin derivatives, 4 kaempferol derivatives, 2 apigenin derivatives, and 3 other flavonoid compounds, were identified from extract of D. lotus fruits based on molecular ion peaks and mass spectrometry cleavage characteristics in negative ion mode, among which 12 compounds were reported for the first time in the fruits. Network pharmacological analysis showed that compounds myricetin 3-sambubioside, myricetin 3-(2G-rhamnosylrutinoside), morin, myricetin 3-rhamnosyl-(1->2)-rhamnoside, isorhamnetin-3-O-glucoside, myricetin, quercetin, naringenin, apigenin and kaempferol had potential anti-inflammatory activities and exerted anti-inflammatory effects mainly related to PI3K-Akt, EGFR tyrosine kinase inhibitor resistance and cancer signaling pathway. Molecular docking showed that the active components stably docked with the key targets, and the results were consistent with the network pharmacological predictions. Conclusion: Flavonoids in D. lotus extracts have potential anti-inflammatory effects and are useful as adjunctive preventive agents in inflammatory diseases.

Skin-nerve interaction plays an important role in promoting wound healing. However, in diabetic ulcers (DUs), the diabetic periphery neuropathy and excessive levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS) block skin-nerve interaction and further impede the DUs healing. Herein, we developed a nanoscale metal-organic framework loaded with nerve growth factor (NGF/Ce-UiO-66, denoted NGF/CU) for the treatment of DUs. The Ce-UiO-66 (CU) was applied as an antioxidant to scavenge ROS and reduce the inflammatory response while the NGF aided in the recovery of cutaneous nerves to further promote DUs healing. Both in vitro and in vivo experiments revealed the effective ability of NGF/CU for DUs healing. Subsequent RNA sequencing analysis revealed the mechanism that NGF/CU can improve wound healing by inhibiting the NF-κB signaling pathway and recovering the neuroendocrine system of the skin. This strategy of nerve regulation will provide more ideas for the treatment of DUs and other organ injuries.

Sensing and Detection Technology is a core course in engineering specialties. Traditional sensor teaching methods have obvious deficiencies in cultivating students’ ability. To better foster students’ comprehensive qualities, this study explored a 4D1P (Four Dimensions and One Penetration) teaching mode. We independently developed an industrial sensor teaching platform with intellectual property rights, integrating classroom and sensor experiments to address the disconnection between traditional sensor teaching and practical application. This mode combined the teaching platform with SPOC (small private online courses) and Rain Classroom teaching software, enriching classroom teaching and stimulating students’ interest. By applying industry-academia-research integration to sensor teaching, students’ horizons were broadened and their creative thinking enriched. The mode set up discussion-based learning in the classroom, making the class atmosphere lively. Throughout the teaching process, data-driven learning and teaching evaluation were consistently applied, allowing teachers to promptly understand students’ learning situations. Data shows that under the backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic, students’ grades improved and they were satisfied with this teaching mode. This mode solves most current problems in university classroom teaching and significantly enhances students’ practical abilities. It also has certain significance for education in other disciplines.

Recently, deep learning methods have shown outstanding performance in remote sensing change detection (CD). To improve the accuracy of edge regions, researchers have introduced edge information as prior knowledge into CD methods. However, there is still room for improvement in utilizing edge information. In this study, an edge-guided multi-scale foreground attention network (EMAF) with an innovative and effective strategy is proposed. Our edge-guided strategy focuses on incorporating edge information into the feature fusion process at all levels. EMAF firstly employs a Siamese Resnet-34 as the encoder, producing four levels of bi-temporal features. Secondly, the Foreground Module (FM) is introduced to separate foreground and background at each level, resulting in foreground change features. Then, the Edge Fusion Module (EFM) is introduced to fuse the features of two adjacent levels with the edge probability map obtained by the Edge Extraction Module (EEM). Finally, after performing EFM and EEM in the three levels, EMAF generates the final change map and edge probability map. During the deep supervision training, the Dynamic Weighted Binary Cross-Entropy (DWBCE) loss is calculated as the edge loss. The comparison testing results on WHU-CD, SYSU-CD, and LEVIR-CD datasets validate the effectiveness of EMAF. Notably, EMAF achieves impressive Intersection over Union (IoU) of 89.03% on WHU-CD and 71.04% on SYSU-CD datasets.
