The purpose of this study is to analyze the translation strategies used by the Palestinian professional translators when rendering the political collocations taken from four British news websites and news channels. The translators are working for the Ministry of Information and Althorayya for Communication and Media in Gaza. The translation test used in the study consisted of 58 English collocations taken from 55 random extracts from four well-known British newspapers and Broadcasting websites. The extracts selected for the study focused on the coverage of Palestinian news, particularly the current events of the Great Marches of Return (2018), the Deal of the Century and AlAqsa Intifada (2017). Following the test, the five participants responded to an interview to elicit the difficulties they encountered in translating the collocations and the translation strategies they used. The analysis of the participants' translations was based on a translation model provided by two professors of translation at the Islamic University of Gaza. The results showed that the participants encountered problems while rendering the collocations which were attributed to cultural reasons and lack of knowledge of the collocations and their patternings. The results show that the translators used the synonymy strategy as the first strategy (43.4%), followed by literal translation (27.7%), approximation (10.1%), omission (7.1%), paraphrasing (6.7%), and elaboration and explication (4.8%). The researchers recommend more research to be done in the field of translating collocations in general and translating political collocations in particular. تهدف هذه الدراسة التجريبية إلى تحديد الاستراتيجيات التى يستخدمها المترجمون الفلسطينيون المحترفون عند ترجمة المتلازمات اللفظية السياسية المقتطفة من الصحف الإلكترونية و المواقع الإخبارية البريطانية وقد تم اختيار مجموعة من المترجمين العاملين لدى وزارة الإعلام ومؤسسة الثريا للإعلام و التواصل في غزة. ولتحقيق هذا الغرض, أعد الباحثان اختباراً يتكون من 55 فقرة مقتطفة من أربع مواقع إخبارية بريطانية مشهورة, وهي, صحيفة الاندبندنت وصحيفة الجارديان وقناتا البي بي سي نيوز وقناة فور الإخبارية, حيث احتوت هذه المقتطفات على 58 متلازمة لفظية, وركزت هذه الفقرات على تغطية الأخبار الفلسطينية الخاصة بالأحداث الأخيرة لمسيرات العودة الكبرى(2018) وصفقة القرن وأحداث انتفاضة الأقصى(2017). ولتحقيق أهداف الدراسة ، أجرى الباحثان مقابلات شخصية مع المترجمين بعد نهاية الاختبار لاستيضاح الصعوبات التي واجهتهم أثناء ترجمة المتلازمات اللفظية بالإضافة إلى الاستراتيجيات التي استخدموها. واعتمد الباحثان في التحليل على نموذج للترجمة من اعداد اساتذة في الترجمة من الجامعة الإسلامية بالاضافة الى استراتيجيات الترجمة التي يعتمدها المترجمون في ترجمة المتلازمات اللفظية السياسية. وقد أظهرت النتائج أن المترجمين الفلسطينيين المحترفين واجهوا بعض الصعوبات عند ترجمة المتلازمات اللفظية السياسية, تعزى تلك الصعوبات لأسباب ثقافية وعدم إلمام المترجمين بالمصطلحات والمتلازمات اللفظية السياسية. وقد أظهرت النتائج أن نسبة استراتيجية المترادفات التي استخدمها المترجمون قد بلغت 43.4% وتبعتها استراتيجية الترجمة الحرفية بنسبة 27.7%. أما استراتيجية التقريب فقد بلغت نسبتها 10.1% فقط, وتبعتها استراتيجية الحذف بنسبة 7.1% ثم استراتيجية إعادة الصياغة بنسبة 6.7% و استراتيجية التوضيح بما نسبته 4.8%. وبناءً على نتائج الاختبار والمقابلة, يوصى الباحثان بإجراء المزيد من الأبحاث في مجال ترجمة المتلازمات اللفظية بشكل عام والمتلازمات اللفظية السياسية بشكل خاص.

The researcher aimed to identify the strategies of foreignization and domestication as adopted by the two translators: Talal Itani and Abduallah Ali in translating fifty cultural specific items (CSIs) from Al-Nisaa’ Sura in the Holy Quran. This is to explore whether the two translations are source-text oriented involving foreignization strategies or target-text oriented involving domestication strategies. The study also attempted to investigate to what extent Itani and Ali had succeeded in achieving cultural equivalence in translating the fifty CSIs. For the purpose of the study, the major research method used to answer the research questions was the comparative textual analysis for the two translations by Itani and Ali based on Ivir’s (1987) translation strategies. Results of the study showed that Itani and Ali opted for domestication strategies more than foreignization strategies in their translations of the fifty CSIs. Moreover, cultural equivalence in Itani’s translation accounted for 53% while it accounted for 47% in Ali’s translation. The study also showed that foreignization strategies used by Itani and Ali were successful in achieving cultural equivalence more than domestication strategies used by the two translators. At the end of the study the researcher recommended that the translators of religious texts in general and translators of the Holy Quran in particular have to be fully aware of the metaphorical and connotative language of the Holy Quran and be extremely knowledgeable of classical Arabic because it is the language of the Holy Quran. She also recommended the importance of identifying the target audience because this may affect the strategies used by translators of religious texts. Based on the results of the study, the researcher recommended other researchers to do researches on equivalence of the translation of the Holy Quran because any loss of equivalence in the translation of the Holy Quran may lead to serious and problematic consequences. تهدفُ الدراسة الى تحديد استراتيجيتيْ التقريب التغريب التي استخدمها كل من طلال عيتاني وعبد الله علي في ترجمتهم لخمسين مصطلح ثقافي من سورة الِنساء في القران الكريم بهدف تحديد ما ان كانت الترجَمتيْن تميلان الى ترجمة التقريب أو ترجمة التغريب. وتحاول الدراسةُ أيضاً معرفة مدى تحقق التكافؤ الثقافي في ترجمة هذه المُصطلحات الخمسين. لهذا السَبب اتبعت الباحثة منهجية تحليل النصوص المقارن لتَرجمَتَيْ عيتاني وعلي استناداً إلى استراتيجيات ايفر في ترجمة المصطلحات الثقافية (1987). أظهرت نتاج الدراسة أن المُترجِميْن عيتاني وعلي اعتمدوا على استراتيجية التقريب أكثر من اعتمادِهم على استراتيجية التغريب في ترجمتِهم للمصطلحات الخمسين. بالإضافة إلى أنّ عيتاني حقق التكافؤ الثقافي بنسبة 53% بينما حقق علي التكافؤ الثقافي بنسبة 47%. وأظهرت الدراسة أيضاً أنّ استراتيجية ترجمة التغريب حققت التكافؤ الثقافي أكثر من استراتيجية ترجمة التقريب. أَوْصت الباحثة في نهاية الدراسة أنّ مُترجمي النصوص الدينية وخاصةً القرآن الكريم يجب أن يكونوا على دراية كاملة باللغة المجازية والضمنية للقرآن الكريم إلى جانب علمهم المستفِيض باللغة العربية الكلاسيكية التي هي لغة القرآن الكريم, وأوْصت بتحديد الجُمهور المترجم إليه لأنّ ذلك من شأنه أن يُحدِدْ الاستراتيجيات التي ينبغي استخدامها من قِبل المُترجِمِين. أيضاً أوْصت الباحثة, بناءً على نتائج الدراسة, الباحثين بعمل دراسات وأبحاث تناقش التكافؤ في ترجمة القرآن الكريم لأنّ أي فقدان في المعنى أو التكافؤ في ترجمة القرآن يمكن أن يؤدّي إلى نتائج وخيمة.

The study aims at investigating the political ideology which interferes in the translation process of sensitive news headlines. The researcher selected news headlines from famous and various Israeli newspapers such as Haaretz, the Jerusalem post, Reuterz, and Arutz Sheva about the events that followed Trump's recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital. The news headlines were given as a translation test to four Palestinian journalists. The results of the study show that the majority of the journalists resorted to dynamic renderings of the ST due to the high political sensitivity of the context that marks the news headlines. Faithfulness became irrelevant and the reality and truth of the ST were questioned and often subverted in the translation. The paper describes the nature and degree of translator interventions and outlines the strategies used to neutralize the ideological load invested in the original text. يدرس البحث أثر الأيديولوجيا في ترجمة عناوين الاخبار السياسية في الصراع الفلسطيني - الاسرائيلي والاستراتيجيات التي يوظفها المترجمون الفلسطينيون في ترجمة عناوين الاخبار السياسية لكي يصلوا بالعناوين ومعانيها إلى ما يتوقع القارئ العربي إيجاده وشملت الدراسة بعض الصحف الاسرائيلية.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the current status of teaching translation at Gaza Universities. Using the Descriptive-Analytic approach the researcher examined the current teaching practices including teaching courses, text books, teaching instructors and methods, and a remedial plan aimed at improving translation-training programmes and meeting the demands of the Palestinian labour market was suggested. Integrating theory and practice into translation classrooms, the suggested plan aims at providing new insights for translation instructors who should coordinate efforts with curriculum designers to meet the translation needs, skills and competences of their students. واقع تدريس الترجمة في جامعات قطاع غزة : دراسة تحليلية يهدف البحث الى التعرف على واقع تدريس الترجمة في جامعات قطاع غزة ووضع خطة علاجية لتطوير تدريس الترجمة و الحصول على مخرجات جيدة.

Rhetoric is part of a good quality speech. Arabic rhetoric in particular is contributing with other figures of speech to the quality of translated texts into Arabic providing text with clarity and metaphorical force. Methods of translating figures of speech vary from one language to another depending on the purpose of translation and linguistic and cultural norms prevailing in society. The study highlights literary values pertaining to simile, metaphor and metonymy. It also discusses strategies of translating these images , difficulties encountering the translator and methods used in overcoming these difficulties. The study is provided with practical, illustrative translations in English and Arabic. تعد البلاغةُ فنُّ الخطاب الجيِّد، وتسهم البلاغة العربية بجمالياتها في جودة النص المترجم إلى العربية، إذ يهدف علم البيان إلى الوضوح والتأثير، وتتعدد طرائق ترجمة هذه الجماليات من لغة إلى أخرى، تبعا لفلسفة الترجمة ومقصدها، نظراً لاستخدامها الشائع وارتباطها بالأحوال اللغوية والثقافية للمجتمع. تجلّي الدراسة قيمة فنون التشبيه والاستعارة والكناية، في النّص الأدبي، وتتناول استراتيجيات ترجمتها، وإشكالات هذه الترجمة، والخيارات المقترحة من منظري الترجمة الأدبية لتجاوز تلك الإشكالات، مع تطبيقات نصية مترجمة من الإنجليزية إلى العربية.

Palestinian interpreters are facing big challenges as they are dealing with two languages that are different not only linguistically but also culturally. Things are exacerbated by the fact that the present situation in the Gaza Strip shows that practicing interpreters are lacking the theoretical and practical experiences as well as the interpreting skils. The lack of proper training coupled with a severe shortage in training facilities and equipment and the absence of translation and interpreting specializations in Palestinian universities have led to erroneous translations and interpretations provided by unqualified interpreters.This paper investigates the current interpreting situation in the Gaza Strip and redefines the skills and capacities required by professional interpreters in the Gaza Strip, Palestine. Specifically, the present study seeks to provide answers to the following three questions provided by thirty professional interpreters, making the population of the present study. 1. What skills and capacities should a Palestinian professional interpreter have? 2. What other additional skills an interpreter should have at their disposal? 3.
