Abstract

A 2D coordination polymer, [Zn2(BDC)4(QPR)2(H2O)]n (Zn(II)‐CP) (BDC2− = 1,4‐benzenedicarboxylato; QPR = 7‐[(pyridin‐4‐ylmethylene)‐amino]‐chromen‐2‐one), is presumably the first reported on coumarinyl‐pyridyl framework with terephthalato linker. The optical band gap, 2.91 eV, is obtained from the Tauc's plot that insists to fabricate an optically stimulated semiconducting device, and the electrical conductivity exhibited (Λ) is 8.07 × 10−3 S m−1 (dark) and 9.26 × 10−3 S m−1 (light). The cytotoxicity in the selected human cancer cell lines like HeLa, MDA‐MB 231, and HepG2 cells in relative to the normal kidney epithelial (NKE) cell line has been examined, and its efficacy is observed highest in inhibiting proliferation of HeLa cells (IC50, 21.02) compared with other cancer cells (IC50: 42.22 [HepG2] and 46.37 [MDA‐MB 231]). Further, the Zn(II)‐CP possess intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation and caspase‐3/7 activation leading to G2/M cell cycle arrest and apoptotic cell death in HeLa cell line. This novel coumarinyl‐pyridyl ligand appended Zn(II)‐CP has been employed for the fabrication of semiconducting device, which is quite impressive in view of existing energy crisis civilization; in addition, the compound has excellent bio‐activity. 42. Spectrophotometric Determination of Trace Amount of Total FeII/FeIIIand Live Cell Imaging of a Carboxylato Zn(II) Coordination Polymer

Abstract

The coordination polymer, (Zn(II)-CP, 1), {[Zn(2,6-NDC)(4-Cltpy)](H2O)4} (1) (2,6-H2NDC = 2,6-naphthalene dicarboxylic acid and 4-Cltpy = 4′-chloro-[2,2′;6′,2″]terpyridine) is structurally characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction measurement and other physicochemical studies (PXRD, FTIR, thermal analysis, microanalytical data). 4-Cltpy acts as end-capping ligand, and NDC2–is a carboxylato bridging motif to constitute ZnN3O2distorted trigonal bipyramid core that propagates to construct 1D chain. The coordination polymer, 1, detects total iron (Fe3+and Fe2+) in aqueous solution by visual color change, colorless to pink. Absorption spectrophotometric technique in aqueous medium measures the limit of detection (LOD) 0.11 μM (Fe2+) and 0.15 μM (Fe3+), and binding constants (Kd) are 6.7 × 104M–1(Fe3+) and 3.33 × 104M–1(Fe2+). Biocompatibility of 1is examined in live cells, and intracellular Fe2+and Fe3+are detected in MDA-MB 231 cells. Zn(II) substitution is assumed upon addition of FeIII/FeIIsolution to the suspension of the coordination polymer, 1, in water–acetonitrile (41:1) (LZnII+ FeIII/II→ LFeIII+ ZnII, where L is defined as coordinated ligands), which is accompanied by changing from colorless to pink at room temperature. The color of the mixture may be assumed to the charge transfer transition from carboxylate-O to Cltpy via Fe(II/III) bridging center (carboxylate–O–Fe-CltPy). The product isolated from the reaction is finally characterized as Fe(III)@1-CP. It is presumed that product Fe(II)@1-CP may undergo fast aerial oxidation to transform Fe(III)@1-CP. The FeIIIexchanged framework (Fe(III)@1-CP) has been characterized by PXRD, IR, TGA and energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDX)-SEM. The MTT assay calculates the cell viability (%), and the tolerance limit is 100 μM to total Fe2+and Fe3+.

Abstract

Subsidence and upliftment of landmass were encountered in Andaman & Nicobar Islands due to the 2004 tsunami. The subsided landmass at the coastal front was permanently waterlogged ensuring a conducive new habitat for wetland birds. Pre- and post-tsunami Landsat satellite data products were used to demarcate the permanently waterlogged areas. A total of 63 bird species belonging to nine families comprising of five orders were identified and documented through direct observation technique in six stations of the 2004 posttsunami-created wetlands in South Andaman. Order Charadriiformes and Anseriformes recorded the highest (47.62%) and least (4.76%) taxonomic composition of wetland birds, respectively. Scolopacidae family recorded the highest (56.67%) species composition. Among the six stations, the highest diversity of birds was observed in Sippighat and Ograbraj stations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

46. Idiosyncatic recognition of Zn2+ and CN− using pyrazolyl-hydroxy-coumarin scaffold and live cell imaging: depiction of luminescent Zn(II)-metallocryptand.

Abstract

Multi-responsive and selective sensor design is one of the stimulating research areas in the sensors field. We have designed a pyrazolyl-hydroxy-coumarin scaffold, 7-hydroxy-4-methyl-8-(((5-phenyl-1H-pyrazol-3-yl)imino)methyl)-2H-chromen-2-one (H2L) and characterized it by spectroscopic techniques (1H NMR, 13C NMR, ESI-MS, IR). The single crystal X-ray diffraction measurement confirms the molecular structure of the probe. It shows the selective sensing of Zn2+ in the presence of sixteen other cations with 'Turn On' approach through the enhancement of green florescence ((λem = 499 nm; λex = 390 nm) in CH3CN/H2O (99 : 1, v/v; HEPES buffer, pH 7.5) medium with the limit of detection (LOD) of 34.76 nM. The structural depiction of the isolated Zn2+ complex reveals cage like metallocryptand cyclic hexamer, [Zn6L6] with 30.9% void of cavity along the crystallographic c axis of approximate dimension of 7.502 × 7.050 × 7.068 Å3. The diffusion NMR study reveals only one type of complex in the solution, having 1 : 1 composition, i.e., Zn2+ : H2L, which affirms the isolated form of the complex. On the other hand, the receptor, H2L, recognizes the very noxious anion CN− out of sixteen anions. The product identification using spectroscopic techniques supports the nucleophilic addition of CN− across the exocyclic imine (C＝N) bond, which shows blue emission ((λem = 447 nm; λex = 390 nm), and the LOD was 19.91 nM. The composition of [H2L−Zn2+] and [H2L−CN−] was established by 1H NMR titration, Job's method, ESI-MS, and FTIR spectra. The efficacy of the probe was further studied using MTT assay in MDA-MB 231 and WI-38 cell line as well as for the intracellular imaging of Zn2+ and CN− using a fluorescence microscope. 49. Trace level CN−measurement by ‘turn-on’ emission using Coumarinyl-Benzothiazolyl Schiff base probe in living and non-living environment

Abstract

Coumarinyl-benzothiazolyl Schiff base (HL) is spectroscopically (FTIR, UV–Vis, NMR, Mass) characterized and the Single Crystal X-Ray Diffraction measurement confirms the structure. The molecule is water insoluble and DMSO solution shows weak emission which may be due to ESIPT assisted H-transfer quenching process. The emission is significantly enhanced in presence of CN−, one of the most toxic anions, through ‘turn-on’ emission (λem = 449 nm; λex = 350 nm) even in presence of many other anions. The mechanism of sensing towards CN−has been described by 1H NMR titration which reveals deprotonation of –OH group and nucleophilic attack to the imine (-CHN-) bond. Further, the Job's plot supports 1:1 molar binding ratio, [HL + CN−] (Kd, 0.696 x 104 M−1) and has been confirmed by ESI-MS. The detection limit (LOD), 0.75 μM, is third best literature. MTT assay of HL shows no-toxicity up to 100 μM and Intracellular Imaging in MDA-MB 231 cell line has been performed for the sensing of CN−.

Abstract

A triphenylamine-benzothaizole-based turn-on fluorescent probe TPB-NO2 was designed and synthesized for tracking H 2 S in both environmental and biological samples depending upon the sensing strategy of thiolysis of 2,4-dinitrophenyl (DNP) ether. Due to PET (photoinduced electron transfer), occurring from donor triphenylamine moiety to acceptor DNP moiety, the probe TPB-NO2 itself is very weakly fluorescent and colorless in DMSO/H 2 O solution (1 : 1, v/v; 10 mM HEPES buffer, pH 7.4). But the addition of H 2 S leads to thiolysis of 2,4-dinitrophenyl ether to block the initial PET process and hence it exhibits naked eye detectable turn-on response with bright cyan fluorescence and intense brown color. Not only that, the probe exhibits excellent selectivity over other bio-thiols like Cysteine (Cys), homocysteine (Hcy), and glutathione (GSH), fast response time (<2 min), and high sensitivity with a detection limit of 9.81 nM. Moreover, to explore the practical applicability of our probe we employed it to monitor H 2 S successfully in environmental water samples, solid-state TLC strip study, Quantitative determination of H 2 S in eggs, and in the bioimaging of human breast cancer cells (MDA-MB 231).
