Abstract

An experiment involving the 270 GHz millimeter wave mixing of a Ba(sub 1-x)K(sub x)BiO3 (BKBO) junction with a log-periodic antenna using a quasi-optical coupling technique. The BKBO grain boundary junction and antenna were fabricated on an MgO bicrystal substrate with an in-plane misorientation angle of 24 degrees. The first quasiparticle mixing in an oxide superconductor was demonstrated.

Abstract

Amphibians and reptiles are highly speciose in tropics, and their species diversity reflects diversity of habitats then indicates present conservational status of environment. We, thus, conducted a survey of herpetofauna at Bako National Park, Sarawak, one of the oldest parks in Malaysian Borneo, and compared this new list with published works, for updating the faunal information. We observed 45 species, 11 of which were recorded anew. Combined with reported information, a total of 27 amphibians and 62 reptiles are now known to occur in BNP. However, it could be said that research of biodiversity in the park is still far from complete. We revised and corrected taxonomic problems and even misidentifications in the past lists, however we still have some more taxon to be examined in future. To figure out the true biodiversity and to assess the environment status of the park properly, continuous monitoring is necessary. 39. Acetal Copolymer from the Copolymerization of Trioxane and Ethylene Oxide

Abstract

The copolymerization of trioxane and ethylene oxide in the bulk polymerization state using highly purified trioxane as the starting material, boron trifluoride dibutyl ether as the initiator, and methylal as the chain-transfer agent was investigated for the industrialization of the acetal copolymer, and the various important polymerization conditions were checked. The acetal exchange reaction during the copolymerization gave a uniform acetal copolymer with randomized comonomer distribution. To obtain the polymer with a high degree of stability, several checks were made. The important points were the high purification of the monomer and complete deactivation of the catalyst residue. Thus, the polymer as polymerized showed a degree of stability over 99.5%.

Abstract

Ridge waveguide AlGaAs/GaAs distributed feedback lasers with multiple quantum well structure were fabricated for the first time. The threshold current of 28 mA, which is the lowest ever reported among AlGaAs/GaAs distributed feedback lasers, was obtained at room temperature. Stable single longitudinal and transverse mode oscillation was observed over the wide temperature range. The dynamic linewidth was also measured and it was five to six times smaller than that of a double heterostructure distributed feedback laser. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
