The exploration of efficient and reliable data analysis tools is a constant endurance in statistical community. Stratification bring enhancement in estimates by capturing the heterogeneity in the data. This work introduces a novel data-driven machine learning algorithm aiming stratification problem, formally based on subjective approach. The development of efficient variance estimators of finite population and the exploration of using various transformation to auxiliary variable on precision enhancement of variance estimators is also under consideration in this research. We also examine the improvement in efficiency enhancement using various transformations and build superiority space for each of these transformations. These superiority regions offer significant understandings of the precise and accurate conditions favoring one transformation over another. We carefully investigate the theoretical basis of the proposed estimators, defining the superiority space for each transformation and obtained biases and mean square errors up to the first-order approximation. We conduct simulation studies and empirical analysis using COVID-19 data and artificial data to assess and validate our methods thoroughly. The results clearly show that the proposed variance estimatoElbow-Methodrs perform significantly better than the competing estimators. Further, the proposed estimator can be seamlessly adapted in other sampling designs as well as in efficient parameter estimation.

The powder derived from human placenta (HP) was successfully used in regenerative medicine. The purpose of this study was to fabricate powder from the human placenta and evaluate it by histological analysis, scanning electron microscopy, and X-ray diffraction. The placenta was decellularized chemically and then lyophilized by a lyophilizer (FTS Systems Bulk Freeze Dryer Model 8–54) for 24 hours at -56 °C and 5 mm Hg until they were totally dried. The assessment used histological analysis, Scanning Electron Microscopy, and x-ray diffraction. The hematoxylin and eosin stain demonstrated that cellular populations and nuclear residues were totally absent from HP tissue. The freeze-drying process of preparing acellular human placenta powder resulted in structures that are made up of highly interconnected, open networks of pores. The particle size mean diameter was approximately ranging from a minimum of 89.44 µm to a maximum of 172.82 µm, and the pore sizes ranged between 44.28 µm and 81.40 µm. Using conventional diffraction database cards, the X-ray diffraction analysis of acellular human placenta powder demonstrated the existence of the constituent organic and inorganic components. It was discovered that the presence of semi-crystalline or amorphous organic components, such as chondroitin sulfate, collagen, and hyaluronic acid. The study concluded from the structural powder that it can be used in regeneration treatments such as treating the spinal cord in animals.

Abstract The purpose of this study is to investigate whether smart administrative governance (SAG) and smart technical governance (STG) affect sustainable development (SD). Importantly, it explores the moderating effect of human capital training and development (HCTD) on the relationship of SAG and STG to SD. To this end, data was gathered from a sample of 318 respondents from Nonprofit organizations in Saudi Arabia and analyzed using PLS-SEM via SmartPLS. The findings demonstrated that SAG positively affects SD, while STG has no effect on SD. Moreover, HCTD directly and favorably affects SD. Importantly, HCTD negatively moderates the relationship between STG and SD. In contrast, HCTD does not moderate the relationship between STG and SD. Overall, this study contributes to the literature by providing a nuanced understanding of how to enhance SD in nonprofit organizations by highlighting the distinct roles of SAG and STG. Hence, this study enriches the literature on governance and sustainability and has implications for both practitioners and policymakers.

IntroductionSorghum bicolor: widely cultivated in Asia and Africa, faces increasing challenges from climate change, specifically from abiotic stresses like drought and salinity. This study evaluates how different sorghum genotypes respond to separate and combined stresses of drought and salinity.MethodsCarried out with three replications using a randomized complete block design, the experiment measured biochemical and physiological parameters, including stomatal conductance, chlorophyll content, and antioxidant enzyme activities. Molecular analysis focused on stress-responsive gene expression.ResultsResults indicated enhanced stress responses under combined conditions, with significant variation in antioxidant enzymatic activities among genotypes. Genotype-specific osmotic adjustments were observed through proline and glycine betaine accumulation. Physiological parameters such as chlorophyll content, cell membrane stability, stomatal conductance, and water potential were critical indicators of stress tolerance. Gene expression analysis revealed upregulation of stress-responsive genes, particularly under combined stress conditions.DiscussionCorrelation and principal component analysis analyses highlighted the interdependencies among traits, emphasizing their roles in oxidative stress mitigation. Samsorg-17 exhibited the highest resilience due to consistently high levels of catalase, superoxide dismutase, and glycine betaine, alongside superior physiological attributes. CRS-01 showed moderate resilience with the highest Na/K ratio and notable photosynthesis rate and relative water content, but was less consistent in biochemical markers under stress. Samsorg-42 demonstrated resilience under specific conditions but was generally less robust than Samsorg-17 across most indicators. These findings emphasize the importance of developing stress-resilient sorghum cultivars through targeted breeding programs to enhance tolerance to drought and salinity in sustainable agriculture.

This study aimed to investigate the tolerance level and the use of primers (H2O, KNO3, ascorbic acid and salicylic acid), in mitigating stress in maize in the newly released cultivars (SWAN-LSR-Y, BR9928-OMR-SR-Y and OMR-LSR-SY). Activities of SOD, APX, CAT and GSH and lipid peroxidation were investigated, to measure the biochemical response of the primed maize seeds. Maize seeds primed with KNO3 and ascorbic acid improved germination and anti-oxidative potential against ROS in ameliorating the salinity stress, while salicylic acid slowed germination. The same trend was followed in the seed vigour index and radicle length of seeds primed with ascorbic acid, which recorded the highest values. The control was observed to have the highest seed vigour index, while seeds primed with salicylic acid showed the least vigour index in the maize seeds. Increased salinity stress showed adverse effects on all growth parameters. Of the maize cultivars tested, SWAN-LSR-Y showed the most tolerance to salinity stress, in terms of germination. Significant high enzymatic activities and lipid peroxidation were recorded in seeds primed with ascorbic acid and KNO3 show their importance in plant metabolic activities.

This article aims to develop two novel mean estimators of finite populations under ranked set sampling. The suggested estimators result in a high-efficiency gain due to their efficient formulation by taking the linear combination of classical estimators using optimization constants. We also discuss the theoretical properties and derive bias and mean squared error up to the first order of approximation. To theoretically validate our proposed estimators, we derive the conditions under which our estimators prevail over the competing estimators. The findings suggest that when ranked set sampling is implemented effectively, it saves cost and improves precision, serving as a potent instrument for improved decision-making, specifically in engineering applications, such as environmental monitoring, resource management, and quality control. An empirical and simulation study has been conducted using real and synthetic data to validate our methodology empirically. The suggested estimators offer a significant contribution to survey sampling in estimating mean under ranked set sampling. Further, the proposed estimator can be seamlessly adapted in other sampling designs such as simple random sampling, stratified random sampling, cluster sampling, etc, as well as in estimating other parameters such as variance, skewness, coefficient of correlation, etc. in various domains.

Abstract Background Despite the availability of effective vaccines, human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine uptake remains low in most resource-limited settings including Nigeria. Mobile health technology (mHealth) has the potential to empower patients to manage their health, reduce health disparities, and enhance the uptake of HPV vaccination. Aim The “mHealth-HPVac” study will assess the effects of mHealth using short text messages on the uptake of HPV vaccination among mothers of unvaccinated girls aged 9–14 years and also determine the factors influencing the uptake of HPV vaccination among these mothers. Methods This protocol highlights a randomised controlled trial involving women aged 25–65 years who will be enrolled on attendance for routine care at the General Outpatient clinics of Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Lagos, Nigeria between July and December 2024. At baseline, n = 123 women will be randomised to either a short text message or usual care (control) arm. The primary outcome is vaccination of the participant’s school-age girl(s) at any time during the 6 months of follow-up. The associations between any two groups of continuous variables will be assessed using the independent sample t-test for normally distributed data, or the Mann-Whitney U test for skewed data. For two groups of categorical variables, the Chi-square (X2) test or Fisher’s exact test will be used, as appropriate. Using the multivariable binary logistic regression model, we will examine the effects of all relevant sociodemographic and clinical variables on HPV vaccination uptake among mothers of unvaccinated but vaccine-eligible school-age girls. This work investigates the heat transmission and boundary layer (BL) slip flow of a power-law fluid induced by stretching surfaces. The power-law fluid, induced magnetic field, and finite thermal relaxation have significant applications in a variety of industrial settings, including thin-layer growth, cooling systems, the extrusion process, and coating and shaping operations in a heat transfer mechanism. With these significant industrial applications, the current study explores BL flow and heat transfer in the context of the of the Cattaneo-Christov theory against the backdrop of an induced magnetic field over a stretching surface. The shear-thinning and thickening features are captured by the power-law fluid model, while the Cattaneo-Christov theory solves the deficiencies of Fourier's law. The BVP4c technique is used to construct and solve BL equations numerically. The surface drag and heat transmission rates at the wall are studied using statistical multi-regression analysis. The findings clarify that the magnetic and power law indices have a favorable effect on the Nusselt number, while their influence on skin friction is conflicting. A lower heat transmission is predicted with thermal relaxation as compared to Fourier's law in the energy equation. The accumulated thermal relaxation parameter produces a non-equilibrium state, delaying the internal thermal processes.

Background: The burden of chronic viral hepatitis among people living with human immunodeficiency virus (PLWH) and its association with liver disease in Nigeria has been seldom explored. Our objective was to compare characteristics in PLWH with and without significant liver fibrosis/cirrhosis, examining its association with viral hepatitis and other risk factors. Methods: Cross-sectional study among PLWH with and without significant fibrosis/cirrhosis (transient elastography ≥ 9.3 kPa) between July 2018 and August 2022. Data were compared between participant groups and logistic regression used to determine association between chronic viral hepatitis and significant fibrosis/cirrhosis. Results: Five hundred and thirty-seven participants (34.3% male), median age 46 years, 22.2% with significant fibrosis/cirrhosis were analyzed. Seroprevalence of hepatitis B virus (HBV) was 11.2% and hepatitis C virus (HCV) 5.7%. Male sex, diabetes, HBV, and HCV were associated with significant fibrosis/cirrhosis, while ART for >5 years was associated with reduced risk. Conclusion: The chronic hepatitis viruses are associated with significant liver fibrosis/cirrhosis in PLWH in Nigeria, highlighting the importance of viral hepatitis awareness, screening, and treatment in HIV programs to reduce the risk of liver disease. This paper aims to investigate the impact of transformed auxiliary variables on the performance of variance estimators of finite population under adaptive cluster sampling scheme. Further, the formulation of an efficient variance estimator of a finite population is also under consideration in this article. Specifically, we explore the gain in efficiency obtained through various transformations and define dominance space for each transformation. These dominance regions provide valuable insights into the circumstances under which one transformation prevails over another regarding precision and accuracy. The theoretical properties of the suggested estimators have been discussed along with the dominance region under each transformation. The bias and Mean Square Error (MSE) have been derived up to the first order of approximation. To evaluate and empirically validate our methodology, we conduct a numerical analysis using real-life ecological data of blue-winged teal. The finding reflects the superior performance of the suggested variance estimators over the competing estimators, thereby substantiating its importance in making informed decisions in real-world applications.

Abstract The high burden of anaemia during pregnancy underscores the urgent need to gain a comprehensive understanding of the factors contributing to its widespread occurrence. Our study assessed the prevalence and the trends of moderate-to-severe anaemia (MSA) in late pregnancy (28 to 36 weeks) and then investigated the key determinants driving this prevalence among women in Lagos, Nigeria. We conducted a secondary data analysis involving 1216 women enrolled in the Predict-PPH study between January and March 2023. We employed a multivariate binary logistic regression model with a backward stepwise selection approach to identify significant predictors of MSA. The study revealed a 14.5% prevalence of MSA during pregnancy. Independent predictors of MSA included having given birth to two or more children (adjusted odds ratio = 1.46, 95% confidence interval: 1.03–2.07), having a maternal body mass index (BMI) of 28 kg/m2 or higher (adjusted odds ratio = 1.84, 95% confidence interval: 1.29–2.61), having less than tertiary education (adjusted odds ratio = 1.51, 95% confidence interval: 1.08–2.11), and being unemployed (adjusted odds ratio = 1.97, 95% confidence interval: 1.19–3.26). It is crucial for pregnant women, particularly those with higher parities and elevated BMI, to be monitored regularly for anaemia and its consequences during their antenatal care. Additionally, addressing the link between low education, unemployment, and anaemia necessitates comprehensive strategies that empower women in terms of education and economic status to enhance the overall well-being of individuals and communities, ultimately reducing the prevalence of anaemia and associated health issues in pregnancy.

Abstract Background Most previous clinical studies investigating the connection between prenatal anaemia and postpartum haemorrhage (PPH) have reported conflicting results. Objectives We examined the association between maternal prenatal anaemia and the risk of PPH in a large cohort of healthy pregnant women in five health institutions in Lagos, Southwest Nigeria. Methods This was a prospective cohort analysis of data from the Predict-PPH study that was conducted between January and June 2023. The study enrolled n = 1222 healthy pregnant women giving birth in five hospitals in Lagos, Nigeria. The study outcome, WHO-defined PPH, is postpartum blood loss of at least 500 milliliters. We used a multivariable logistic regression model with a backward stepwise conditional approach to examine the association between prenatal anaemia of increasing severity and PPH while adjusting for confounding factors. Results Of the 1222 women recruited to the Predict-PPH study between January and June 2023, 1189 (97·3%) had complete outcome data. Up to 570 (46.6%) of the enrolled women had prenatal anaemia while 442 (37.2%) of those with complete follow-up data had WHO-defined PPH. After controlling for potential confounding factors, maternal prenatal anaemia was independently associated with PPH (adjusted odds ratio = 1.37, 95% confidence interval: 1.05–1.79). However, on the elimination of interaction effects of coexisting uterine fibroids and mode of delivery on this association, a sensitivity analysis yielded a lack of significant association between prenatal anaemia and PPH (adjusted odds ratio = 1.27, 95% confidence interval: 0.99–1.64). We also recorded no statistically significant difference in the median postpartum blood loss in women across the different categories of anaemia (P = 0.131). Conclusion Our study revealed that prenatal anaemia was not significantly associated with PPH. These findings challenge the previously held belief of a suspected link between maternal anaemia and PPH. This unique evidence contrary to most previous studies suggests that other factors beyond prenatal anaemia may contribute more significantly to the occurrence of PPH. This highlights the importance of comprehensive assessment and consideration of various maternal health factors in predicting and preventing this life-threatening obstetric complication.

Abstract This paper offers a novel approach to formulate efficient ratio estimator of the population variance using a transformed auxiliary variable. The impact of transformation on auxiliary information has also been discussed. It is observed that incorporating a transformed auxiliary variable result in a high gain in efficiency. Theoretical properties of the newly developed estimators have been derived. The empirical and simulation studies show that the suggested estimators outperformed the existing estimators.

Coxofemoral luxation or hip joint luxation is the most commonly occurring injury in dogs and cats. There are different methods in treating this case with different outcomes, toggle pin stabilization technique is one of them. This study aimed to evaluate metal suture with fabricated toggle pin as prosthetic round ligament (teres ligament) for the treatment of hip joint luxation in dogs. The experimental study was conducted of five adult mongrel dogs induced coxofemoral luxation (hip luxation) under general anesthesia, then the induced luxation was reduced by using a fabricated toggle pin from a Steinman pin with metal suture passed through a femero-acetabular tunnel created by electrical drill started from third trochanter and exits at the acetabular fossa passing through the fovea capitis. All experimental animals were followed up clinically for six weeks at two intervals (day 14th, and day 42nd), and radiologically for six weeks at three intervals at day zero, day 28th, and day 42nd. All experimental animals were bearing weight on the affected limb the next day after surgery. The lameness score of all cases was 0/5 representing normal gait at both two- and six-week intervals. The radiological results showed a good reduction in luxated limb along the period of the study. In conclusion, a fabricated toggle pin with metal suture is a good stabilizer for hip luxation cases and provides a rigid fixation for the joint.

Peripheral nerve injuries (PNI) are frequently caused by several circumstances, including trauma and iatrogenic operations, and there are limited therapy options to help with functional recovery. This study aimed to compare in vivo adipose-derived stem cells (ASCs) to chitosan nanoparticles (CS NPs) in rabbit sciatic nerve defect regeneration. Twenty healthy rabbits of local breed randomly enrolled in two equal groups split into two groups at random: The critical size defect was bridged with a 14 mm conduit from acellular bovine urinary bladder impacted with chitosan nanoparticles (CS NPs) semi-gel 1mg/ml as the first group, and the critical size defect was bridged with mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) 5x106 in the second group. At the end of 56 and 112 days, assessment of the nerve regeneration, motor and sensory function, and histopathological assessment of the sciatic nerve were investigated. According to the findings, the motor and sensory capabilities of the sciatic nerve increased faster in the mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) group. In the mesenchymal stem cells group repairing a 10mm sciatic nerve defect, histopathological examination revealed basophilic nuclei of proliferated Schwann cells with thick myelin sheath, suitable orientation nerve fibers, dense axon population, large axon diameter, nerve fiber myelination, and low fibrous tissue at the epineurium compared to chitosan nanoparticles (CS NPs). It is concluded that effect mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) promote regeneration of the sciatic nerve defect compared to chitosan nanoparticles (CS NPs).

The (4+1)-dimensional Davey-Stewartson-Kadomtsev-Petviashvili equation is explored in the present work, revealing its complex dynamics and solitary wave solutions. Modeling ocean and tidal waves, particularly tsunami and long water waves, depends significantly on this nonlinear equation. Additionally, these models can be used to simulate internal and external waves in rivers and oceans as well as wave packets in water with a finite depth. The Sardar subequation method, new Kudryashov's method, and (1ϑ(ζ),ϑ′(ζ)ϑ(ζ)) method are investigated to discover novel solitary wave solutions in the terms of hyperbolic, trigonometric and rational functions. A wide variety of solitons, as dark, bright, periodic, singular, combined dark-singular solitons and, combined dark-bright are obtained by these techniques. By taking accurate parameter values, certain three-dimensional and two-dimensional graphs are plotted to improve the physical description of solutions. The intriguing field of nonlinear waves and dynamic systems is signaled to readers by this work, which suggests a major advancement in understanding the intricate and unexpected behavior of this model.

Motorists are required to interact with both roadway infrastructure and various users. The complexity of the driving task in certain scenarios can influence the frequency and severity of crashes. Turning vehicles at intersections, for example, pose a collision risk for both motorized and non-motorized road users. The primary goal of this paper is to investigate the underlying factors which contribute to right-turn crashes at signalized intersections. Five years of crash data across Oregon were collected. A random parameters binary logit model was developed to predict the likelihood of whether a crash resulted in an injury or fatality. It was found that 14 variables were statistically significant in contributing to crash severity. The results obtained show that dry conditions and a posted speed limit of 30 mi/hr or 35 mi/hr contributed to a higher percentage of severe crashes, while fixed-object crashes and snowy weather had a higher likelihood of resulting in no injury crashes. Time-of-day (9:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.), lighting conditions (dusk), gender (male driver), crash type (vehicle–pedestrian and rear-end), and driver-level crash cause (driver sped too fast for conditions, driver did not yield right-of-way, and driver disregarded the traffic control device) all led to an increase in probability of a fatal or injury crash. The vehicle–pedestrian conflict variable had the highest impact on increasing the probability of such a crash while turning right at a signalized intersection. This observation is important because right turns are often permitted during the pedestrian walk and clearance indications, and often drivers do not give right-of-way to pedestrians.

Abstract With the escalating urgency for sustainable energy alternatives, solar power in urban landscapes has gained prominence. Building‐integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) systems are pivotal in this shift, blending efficient energy generation with architectural aesthetics. This review casts a spotlight on BIPV technologies, with a special emphasis on the less‐explored semitransparent photovoltaics (PVs). These systems are not only energy generators but also natural light facilitators, setting them apart from their opaque PV counterparts. Advancements in both transparent and opaque PV, such as crystalline silicon, are discussed. However, the paper prioritizes semitransparent PV's unique benefits, including harmonious integration with building design and simultaneous energy and daylight management. An exhaustive examination of current literature and developments sketches BIPV's trajectory, highlighting applications, challenges, and technological strides. The narrative extols the aesthetic, financial, and efficiency merits of BIPV, particularly the semitransparent variants' blend of functionality and design. Performance optimization of BIPV systems is scrutinized across various environments and architectural styles. This meticulous discussion seeks to clarify the status quo, emerging research avenues, and future prospects of BIPV in fostering a greener energy transition. The review compares BIPV configurations with traditional solar PV systems, charting a path for enhanced energy production, cost efficiency, and aesthetic integration, with semitransparent PV as a key player. By exploring the interplay between architectural design, energy efficiency, and urban planning, this paper aims to solidify the groundwork for future research, reinforcing the sustainability narrative in urban energy infrastructure.

In the face of escalating environmental challenges, understanding crop responses to abiotic stress is pivotal for sustainable agriculture. The present study meticulously investigates the intricate interplay between drought and salinity stress in barley (Hordeum vulgare L.). Employing three distinct barley genotypes—Traveller, Prunella, and Zahna—we scrutinize their physiological, biochemical, and molecular adaptations under stress conditions. Our findings underscore genotype-specific responses, unravelling the multifaceted mechanisms that govern stress tolerance. Chlorophyll content, a vital indicator of photosynthetic efficiency, exhibits significant variations across genotypes. Salinity stress induces a decline in chlorophyll levels, while drought stress triggers a more nuanced response. Stomatal conductance, a key regulator of water loss, also diverges among the genotypes. Traveller displays remarkable stomatal closure under drought, conserving water, whereas Prunella and Zahna exhibit contrasting patterns. Antioxidant enzyme activities, crucial for combating oxidative stress, fluctuate significantly. Activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT) surge under salinity stress, while drought predominantly impacts SOD. Gene expression profiling reveals genotype-specific signatures, with stress-responsive genes modulating adaptive pathways. Correlation analyses revealed the intricate interplay of the physiological and biochemical parameters. Genotype-specific adaptations, coupled with dynamic physiological and molecular responses, underscore the plasticity of barley’s stress tolerance mechanisms. Throughout the study, the Zahna genotype demonstrated notable tolerance in terms of performance. These insights hold promise for breeding resilient cultivars, bolstering food security in an increasingly unpredictable climate. By deciphering the barley stress symphony, we contribute to the harmonious orchestration of sustainable agricultural practices.

Several strategies are used to increase the heat transmission capabilities of ordinary fluid. Using metallic nanomaterials the thermal conductivity is modified which can improve the energy transport mechanism. Our primary goal is to observe the dual diffusion and volumetric friction of injected nanoparticles in blood flow simultaneously. The Eyring–Powell fluid is speculated as blood on the basis of shear thinner behavior. The entropy formation in the region of stagnation in MHD Eyring–Powell nanofluid flow is scrutinized. The flow is produced by stretchable surface. The impacts of slip mechanism viscous dissipation and melting heating are included in the current analysis. The single and two phase model are used as coupled model to inquire the effects of nanomaterials. System of PDEs are achieved and reduced to ODEs using appropriate variables. The reduced ODEs are solved using RK-4 methodology. It is evident that blood flow is greatly influenced by Lorentz forces and fluid primary parameter. On the other hand, the secondary and increased volumetric rate encourage the flow of blood. The blood temperature is rising function of thermophoresis, Eckert and magnetic parameter. Similar trend for solutal profile was noted against Brownian and Lewis number. The system irreversibility are rising with Brinkman, magnetic and diffusion variable. The coefficient of energy transport rate and frictional drag are rising function of material parameters and volumetric concentration of injected nanomaterial. It is interesting to see that nearly all profile show comparable trend with higher concentration of nanomaterials.

Abstract The analysis of peristaltic-ciliary transport in the human female fallopian tube, specifically in relation to the growing embryo, is a matter of considerable physiological importance. This paper proposes a biomechanical model that incorporates a finite permeable tube consisting of two layers, where the Jeffrey fluid model characterizes the viscoelastic properties of the growing embryo and continuously secreting fluid. Jeffrey fluid entering with some negative pressure gradient forms the core fluid layer while continuously secreting Jeffrey fluid forms the peripheral fluid layer. The resulting partial differential equations are solved for closed-form solutions after employing the assumption of long wavelength. The analysis delineated that increasing the constant secretion velocity, Darcy number, and Reynolds number leads to a decrease in the appropriate residue time of the core fluid layer and a reduction in the size of the secreting fluid bolus in the peripheral fluid layer. Eventually, the boluses completely disappear when the constant secretion velocity exceeds 3.0 Progesterone ( $$P_4$$ P 4 ) and estradiol ( $$E_2$$ E 2 ) directly regulate the transportation of the growing embryo, while luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), prolactin, anti-mullerian hormone (AMH), and thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) have an indirect effects. Based on the number and size of blastomeres, the percentage of fragmentation, and the presence of multinucleated blastomeres two groups were formed in an in vitro experiment. Out of 50 patients, 26 (76.5%) were pregnant in a group of the good quality embryos, and only 8 (23.5%) were in a group of the bad quality embryos. The transport of growing embryo in the human fallopian tube and preimplantation development of human embryos in in vitro are constraint by baseline hormones FSH, LH, prolactin, $$E_{2}$$ E 2 , AMH, and TSH.

In this study, new complexes are produced by bonding of transition metal dinuclear chlorides (CoCl2.6H2O, MnCl2.4H2O, and FeCl2.6H2O) with a polychelated ligand called 9-Phenyl-2,3,7-trihydroxy-6-fluorone, represented by (L), in a 1:2 (metal: ligand) ratio. Applying the appropriate chemical and physical methods, such as melting points, molar electrical conductivity, magnetic sensitivity, FT-IR, UV-Visible, and mass spectrometric studies, the produced complexes were characterized. All complexes are non-electrolytic, according to analyzes of molar electrical conductivity. All complexes have an octahedral structure, according to studies of magnetic sensitivity and Uv-Visible spectra. The mass spectrometry measurements showed the presence of the molar mass bands of the complex and the appearance of other bands resulting from the fragmentation of the complexes. For the metallic complexes spectra, FT-IR revealed a shift in the shape and intensity of the complexes bands at lower frequencies. The bonding of the metal to the oxygen atom can be observed by this shift in the bond stretch of the ligands. The size of the coordination between the ligand and the ions of the metallic elements is the cause. The measurement of the complexes' melting point is high, which suggests that the resultant complexes are quite stable.

The present study included optical degradation of pure polyvinyl films and also when mixing the complex [Aqua diphylcarbazide thiourea Cobalt (||)]chloride by weight (0.1% - 0.00625 %) and polymer films dissolved in water and thickness (60±5) microns. The optical degradation of the prepared chips was followed up with the presence and absence of the added complex by violet-visible spectroscopy (U.V) using light with a maximum wavelength (356nm) and at different irradiation times (0,10,20,40,80) hours by calculating the constant rate of photolysis of the polymer additive. Using (FT. IR) by increasing the absorption coefficient of the hydroxyl group (IOH). It was found that an increase in the concentration of the additive complex leads to an increase in the photolysis of polymer sheets compared to sheets without it, which in turn leads to an increase in the values of hydroxyl absorption coefficients. These results are consistent with the value of the speed constant of optical degradation the highest value of the dissociation constant (KD) and follow-up by changing the viscosity to weight ratio, degree of degradation and rate of chain cutting.

Abstract Background Giant cell tumor (GCT) is a relatively common and locally aggressive benign bone tumor that rarely affects the sternum. Case presentation We report a case of giant cell tumor of the sternum in a 28-year-old Saudi with painful swelling at the lower part of the sternum. Subtotal sternectomy and reconstruction with a neosternum using two layers of proline mesh, a methyl methacrylate prosthesis, and bilateral pectoralis muscle advancement flaps were performed. Conclusions Giant cell tumor of the sternum is a rare diagnosis. Surgical resection with negative margins is the ideal management. To avoid defects or instability of the chest wall, reconstruction of the chest wall with neosternum should be considered.

The exploration of higher-order and multicomponent extensions of the nonlinear Schrödinger equation holds significant importance across diverse applications, notably within the field of optics. Among these equations, the integrable Sasa–Satsuma equation stands out for its captivating soliton solutions. The Sasa–Satsuma equation serves as a mathematical representation for describing the propagation of femtosecond light pulses through optical fibers. The breather, multiwave, combined dark–bright, singular, dark, bright and periodic singular optical soliton solutions are derived in this paper by using the 1φ(ϑ),φ′(ϑ)φ(ϑ) and multivariate generalized exponential rational integral function approach. Furthermore, the paper emphasizes the essential fiber parameters essential for the emergence of these structures and offers visual representations of chosen solutions to elucidate their physical characteristics. The novelty of this work lies in the inaugural application of these methods to the Sasa–Satsuma equation and gives a significant advancement in the understanding of optical phenomena. This study not only opens avenues for further research but also introduces a fresh perspective on the Sasa–Satsuma model in the field of nonlinear physics with its applications in optical systems.

Exogenous application of iron (Fe) may alleviate salinity stress in plants growing in saline soils. This comparative study evaluated the comparative residual effects of iron nanoparticles (FNp) with two other Fe sources including iron-sulphate (FS) and iron-chelate (FC) on maize (Zea mays L.) crop grown under salt stress. All three Fe sources were applied at the rate of 15 and 25 mg/kg of soil before the sowing of wheat (an earlier crop; following the sequence of crop rotation) and no further Fe amendments were added later for the maize crop. Results revealed that FNp application at 25 mg/kg (FNp-2) substantially increased maize height, root length, root dry weight, shoot dry weight, and grain weightby 80.7%, 111.1%, 45.7%, 59.5%, and 77.2% respectively, as compared to the normal controls; and 62.6%, 81.3%, 65.1%, 78%, and 61.2% as compared to salt-stressed controls, respectively. The FNp-2 treatment gave higher activities of antioxidant enzymes, such as superoxide dismutase, peroxidase, catalase, and ascorbate peroxidase compared to salt stressed control (50.6%, 51%, 48.5%, and 49.2%, respectively). The FNp-2 treatment also produced more photosynthetic pigments and better physiological markers: higher chlorophyll a contents by 49.9%, chlorophyll b contents by 67.2%, carotenoids by 62.5%, total chlorophyll contents by 50.3%, membrane stability index by 59.1%, leaf water relative contents by 60.3% as compared to salt stressed control. The highest Fe and Zn concentrations in maize roots, shoots, and grains were observed in FNp treatment as compared to salts stressed control. Higher application rates of Fe from all the sources also delivered better outcomes in alleviating salinity stress in maize compared to their respective low application rates. The study demonstrated that FNp application alleviated salinity stress, increased nutrient uptake and enhanced the yield of maize grown on saline soils.

The extreme porosity and brittleness of cement mortar, when subjected to external forces, explain its fragility and low compressive and flexural resistance. Utilizing polymers is a cheap way to address these drawbacks. In this research, cement mortar samples were improved their mechanical and physical properties using the polymer-impregnated mortar (PIM) method, where polyethylene glycol (PEG) was utilized in the impregnation process through three different methods for impregnation: vacuum technique, ultrasound technique, and immersion in PEG for 24 h. The results showed an increase in mechanical properties. PIM exhibited the highest compressive strength (CS [24.47 MPa]), flexural strength (18 MPa), and splitting tensile strength (2.082 MPa) compared with the reference specimen, which attained 1.38 MPa CS, 0.52 (MPa) flexural strength, and 1.346 MPa splitting tensile strength. Optimum mechanical properties were achieved by vacuum technique, along with the increase in bulk density. The porosity test showed a slight effect of polymer on porosity. The results of diffusion showed the greater diffusivity of the reference sample compared with the PIM samples, that is, approximately 5% weight gain after one-day immersion in water. The results of thermal conductivity exhibited the increased thermal conductivity of polymer-impregnated samples compared with the reference sample.

In this study, we examine soliton solutions of extended (2+1)-dimensional Kadomtsev–Petviashvili equation arising in fluid mechanics and plasma physics. The research utilizes an improved modified extended tanh-function method to derive new soliton solutions. The diverse set of soliton solutions obtained in this study, featuring a combination of rational, trigonometric, and hyperbolic functions, enhances the model’s applicability for real-world fluid mechanics and plasma physics scenarios. The visual representations of the obtained solutions through contour, three-dimensional, and two-dimensional depictions in various simulations are shown in the figures. The results propose that the employed method is an efficient and powerful tool to be implemented for different differential equations in applied sciences and engineering.

Water deficiency and chemical fertilizers' pollution are two of many factors causing imbalance in the ecosystem rhythm, which reflects on farm livestock quality and quantity, particularly in arid and semi-arid regions. Limited research is available on the use of different sources of nitrogen fertilizers on pasture crops; hence, an open field research experiment was carried out in newly reclaimed soil to investigate the effect of different sources of nitrogen fertilizers on maximizing protein level and production of Guinea grass (Panicum maximum Jacq.) plant under water deficiency. Present data from two successive seasons revealed that: plants received nitrogen in the form of nano particles recorded significant increases in yield, morphological parameters, leaf anatomy, and chemical composition (macro and micro nutrients, total carbohydrates, plant pigments and crude protein) over control (plants that received the recommended dose of NPK fertilizers) in both growing seasons. In addition, endogenous hormones; gibberellins (GA3) and abscisic acid (ABA) beside enzymes; superoxide dismutase (SOD) and peroxidase (POD) had been affected by different treatments. The lowest amounts of cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin were resulted from nitrogen nano particles treatment, while the rates of leaf photosynthesis, stomatal conductance, intercellular CO2 concentration, and water use efficiency were enhanced also by nitrogen nano particles treatment application. The present findings suggested that increasing crude protein level of Guinea grass plant grown in newly reclaimed soil by addition of the mentioned nanoparticles could be a promising approach to improve crop productivity under water deficiency and reduce environmental pollution.

This study aimed to investigate the tolerance level and the use of primers (H2O, KNO3, ascorbic acid and salicylic acid), in mitigating stress in maize in the newly released cultivars (SWAN-LSR-Y, BR9928-OMR-SR-Y and OMR-LSR-SY). Activities of SOD, APX, CAT and GSH and lipid peroxidation were investigated, to measure the biochemical response of the primed maize seeds. Maize seeds primed with KNO3 and ascorbic acid improved germination and anti-oxidative potential against ROS in ameliorating the salinity stress, while salicylic acid slowed germination. The same trend was followed in the seed vigour index and radicle length of seeds primed with ascorbic acid, which recorded the highest values. The control was observed to have the highest seed vigour index, while seeds primed with salicylic acid showed the least vigour index in the maize seeds. Increased salinity stress showed adverse effects on all growth parameters. Of the maize cultivars tested, SWAN-LSR-Y showed the most tolerance to salinity stress, in terms of germination. Significant high enzymatic activities and lipid peroxidation were recorded in seeds primed with ascorbic acid and KNO3 show their importance in plant metabolic activities.

Coxofemoral luxation is a common orthopedic lesion in dogs. This study aimed to evaluate ‎the effectiveness of a modified toggle splint with nylon suture as a prosthetic teres ligament ‎for reducing and fixing coxofemoral luxation in dogs. Five adult mongrel dogs weighing ‎‎15±2 kg were used in this experimental study. The toggle splint was fabricated from a ‎Steinmann pin (1cm length, 2mm diameter) by drilling 0.5 mm hole in the center. ‎Stabilization of coxofemoral joint was performed by a modified Toggle splint technique. A ‎tunnel, from the major trochanter through the fovea capitis to the acetabulum, was ‎performed in which the toggle splint was passed through, and nylon suture was used for ‎fixation. Dogs were scored for lameness severity at 0-, 14-and 42-day post-operation using a ‎numerical rating scale (NRS) with 5 levels, and reductions were assessed radiographically ‎at three-time points the day of operation, day 28th, and day 42nd. The results showed that the ‎treatment splint was effective in achieving good reduction and fixation in four out of five ‎‎(80%) dogs at all time points. The multipotent characteristic of rabbit adipose-derived stem cells makes them available and ‎convenient sources for isolating mesenchymal stem cells. The aim of this study was to assess ‎the differentiation in rabbit adipose-derived stem cells pre-committed to produce several ‎mesenchymal lineages in response to inductive extracellular cues to multipotent stromal cells. ‎Three grams of adipose tissue was taken from a subcutaneous region of the nape of the neck ‎and was carefully isolated to obtain mesenchymal stem cells for expanded by fourth passage. In ‎the 4th passage, active growth of mesenchymal stem cells was observed. Furthermore, the ‎research demonstrated the inherent ability of rabbit MSCs to induce differentiation in ‎osteogenic and adipogenic lineages. These mesenchymal stem cells were successfully isolated ‎from adipose tissue which differentiated into either osteocytes or adipocyte-like cells after 21 ‎and 14 days of culturing in specific osteogenic and adipogenic media, respectively. The ‎remarkable differentiation potential of rabbit mesenchymal stem cells is indicated by ‎mineralized deposition to the osteocytes and lipid droplets accumulated in the cytoplasm lipid ‎vacuoles in the adipocytes‎.

Purpose: This study investigated the prognostic performance of the systemic immune-inflammation index (SII) in patients with epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) in Lagos, Nigeria. Methods: We performed a secondary analysis of the data of 91 women who had treatment for EOC between 2009 and 2018. The associations between pretreatment SII and survivals were tested. Results: Pretreatment SII more than 610.2 was a significant independent predictor of reduced progression-free survival (HR = 2.68; 95% CI, 1.17 to 6.09) while SII greater than 649.0 was a significant independent predictor of reduced 3-year overall survival (HR = 2.01; 95% CI, 1.01 to 3.99). Conclusion: These findings suggest that high SII may be a potential prognostic indicator and useful marker for more intensive surveillance and design of personalized treatment in patients with EOC.

Background: Cancer is a complex disease that is one of the leading causes of death. This study aimed to investigate the clinical and therapeutic characteristics, as well as the medical cost of managing adult cancer patients in Al-Anbar city in Iraq from the patient's perspective. Method: This was a prospective cross-sectional study that was carried out at the Al-Anbar Oncology Centre between September and December 2021. Direct medical cost data includes the cost of treatment, healthcare professional visits, laboratory tests, and surgery. Furthermore, patients were contacted and asked to estimate the direct non-medical costs (transportation costs) connected with their disease, as well as describe side effects of their cancer therapy. Symptoms similar to those produced by the phytoplasma disease "Big bud" were observed on tomatoes (Solanum lycopersicum L.) grown in the field in Mosul city, Iraq. Diseased plants were characterized by twisting, corrugated, yellowing or reddening of leaves. The sepals of the flowers acquired hypertrophied form, were fused together and created a bell-shaped sterile bud (phyllody) of green or anthocyanin color. The stems of the plants were lignified, and phloem necrosis was observed on the stem. In mid-September 2020, samples of 30 diseased and 2 healthy (control) tomato plants were collected from the fields. Phytoplasmas were detected by PCR and Nested-PCR in 10 diseased samples, use universal and specific primers. The results of a phylogenetic tree consisting of 27 genetic sequences of the 16 S ribosomal RNA gene of Candidatus Phytoplasma trifolii, locally isolated from Iraq/Mosul, showed a sequence identity with a high percentage of genetic similarity of 99% with Candidatus Phytoplasma trifolii 16Sr member VI-A. Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) algorithms play a critical role in maximizing the output power of solar panels. Different MPPT techniques are evaluated based on several criteria, such as tracking speed, simplicity, and accuracy with changes in solar irradiance and ambient temperature. Under partial shading conditions (PSCs), conventional techniques fail to track global maximum power points (GMPP). This paper aims to present an automatic and accurate method to fix the complexity of determining the accurate lookup table data in an automatic and fast process under uniform irradiance conditions (UICs) and PSCs. The proposed method runs the photovoltaic (PV) module with all potential irradiance and temperature. It automatically calculates the perfect voltage reference (Vref) for all potential PV system cases. The Vref is collected in an array, sent into a two-dimensional lookup table, and used for controlling the boost converter. Simulation results verify the effectiveness of the proposed method. In addition, a comparison was also made with the conventional perturb and observe (P&O) method. Under UICs, the proposed method takes less time than the conventional P&O algorithm to reach the MPP. The time difference between them is ?t = 0.133 sec and ?t = 0.04 sec for the first scanning process at t = 0 sec and sudden change irradiance at t = 1.5 sec, respectively. As for PSCs, the proposed method reached the GMPP during pattern 104 (first peak) without any power loss, while the P&O MPPT was able to track the GMPP but with power losses of 2729.97 watts. Di bawah keadaan teduhan separa (PSC), teknik konvensional gagal menjejak titik kuasa maksimum global (GMPP). Kajian ini bertujuan bagi membentangkan kaedah automatik dan tepat bagi membetulkan kesusahan dalam menentukan carian data berjadual secara tepat, automatik dan pantas di bawah keadaan sinaran seragam (UIC) dan PSC. Kaedah yang dicadangkan menjalankan modul fotovoltaik (PV) dengan semua potensi sinaran dan suhu dan mengira rujukan voltan sempurna (Vref) secara automatik bagi semua kes yang berpotensi dalam sebarang jenis sistem PV. Vref dikumpul dalam tata susunan, dihantar ke dalam jadual carian dua dimensi, dan digunakan bagi mengawal penukar rangsangan. Keputusan simulasi mengesahkan keberkesanan kaedah yang dicadangkan. Several research studies have been conducted on the usage of nanoscale silica particles in concrete, based on the success of employing silica fume as an active pozzolan in concrete. The impact of several doses of nanosilicas (NpSs) in powder having a certain surface area of 160 m2/g and two particle sizes of porcelanite rock on the mechanical characteristics of lightweight porcelanite aggregate concrete was investigated. The addition of NpS particles significantly improved the workability of mixes, according to the results. The compressive strength of samples was influenced by NpS, with higher doses of NpS resulting in greater improvement. Porcelanite aggregate concrete’s compressive strength was unaffected by a modest percentage of different NpSs. NpS had an effect on the samples. Flexural strength also improved at all NpS dosages. The flexural strength of porcelanite aggregate concrete increased by a low percentage of various NpS.

Novel superabsorbent polymers (SAPs) were created by solution polymerization at ambient temperature using potassium polyacrylate (KPA), polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), and magnesium chloride as a cross-linking agent with different weights of 0.4, 0.5, 0.6, 0.7, 0.8, and 1 g for KPA and 0.33, 0.44, 0.55, 0.733, and 1.1 g for PVA. Fourier transforms infrared (FTIR) and UV-Vis spectroscopy were used to determine the chemical composition of the SAP complexes. The outcomes revealed that the KPA and PVA successfully interacted with the magnesium chloride. The morphology of the surfaces shows a uniform porous interconnected microstructure as revealed by field emission scanning electron microscopy. The effective preparation was confirmed by thermal characterization (thermogravimetric analysis and differential scanning calorimetry) of the SAPs. The influence of the cross-linker agent on the SAPs’ water absorbency was examined. The magnesium polyacrylate (Mg-PA) (0.6 g of MgCl2) SAP has a maximum swelling capacity of 650%, while that of magnesium polyvinyl alcohol (Mg-PVA) (0.55 g of MgCl2) was 244%. The findings confirmed that the SAPs have excellent swelling and water-retaining capabilities. The strategy used in this investigation may function as a model for developing and widespread usage of SAPs in agriculture and horticulture.

In pandemic management, ChatGPT rapidly disseminates vital information. It serves as a virtual assistant in surgical consultations, aids dental practices, simplifies medical education, and aids in disease diagnosis. A total of 82 papers were categorised into eight major areas, which are G1: treatment and medicine, G2: buildings and equipment, G3: parts of the human body and areas of the disease, G4: patients, G5: citizens, G6: cellular imaging, radiology, pulse and medical images, G7: doctors and nurses, and G8: tools, devices and administration. Balancing AI’s role with human judgment remains a challenge. The present study focuses on achieving precise deposition of a Ni and 15% BaTiO3 particle mixture onto SS-304 substrates through meticulous preparation steps. Thorough cleaning of the SS-304 substrate eliminated contaminants, ensuring optimal adhesion. Simultaneously, the Ni-BaTiO3 mixture underwent preheating at 1200°C for 20 hours in a muffle furnace to eliminate moisture content, crucial for preventing coating defects. A uniform and crack-free cladding layer enhances the substrate’s resistance to wear, corrosion, and mechanical stresses, thereby extending its service life and improving overall functionality. The surface hardness of SS-304 experienced a substantial improvement of 39.90% following the cladding process with Ni and 15% BaTiO3. A sliding speed of 2 m/s was meticulously selected to replicate typical velocities encountered in practical applications, ensuring a realistic assessment of frictional behavior and wear resistance. Similarly, the sliding distance of 1000 m and an axial load of 5 N were precisely calibrated to simulate the mechanical stresses experienced during sliding contact, facilitating a thorough examination under relevant conditions. These carefully chosen parameters enabled the determination of key tribological properties essential for evaluating the performance of the cladded surface of SS 304 with Ni + 15% BaTiO3. The wear rate, measured at 0.0016 mm3/m, serves as a critical indicator, revealing the volume of material lost per unit distance of sliding. This parameter provides invaluable insights into the surface’s wear resistance and durability, crucial for assessing the longevity and performance of the cladded surface under abrasive conditions. Additionally, the coefficient of friction, determined to be 0.255, offers a quantitative measure of the surface’s frictional behavior during sliding contact.

The article is devoted to the study of the effectiveness of various methods of reinforcing composite aerated concrete lintels intended for window and door openings in the construction of civil buildings. The authors have developed a composite aerated concrete lintel for window and door openings, which includes two or three aerated concrete blocks and a seam at the ends made with polyurethane glue. The lintel reinforcement is made in the form of tape and parts of carbon fiber tape attached to aerated concrete blocks. The article provides a comparative analysis of various methods of reinforcing lintels made of aerated concrete, including steel rods and glass-composite reinforcement, as well as external tape reinforcement using carbon tapes. The results of the study allow us to conclude that external tape reinforcement with carbon fiber tapes is the most effective method. The most thermally efficient type of lintel reinforcement is external tape reinforcement with carbon fiber tapes, since the reduced heat transfer resistance is 6-10% higher than that of similar lintels with another type of reinforcement, and 10-28% higher than traditionally used lintels (reinforced solid lintels and composite U-shaped lintels).

Abstract Background Most diagnosed oral cancer cases in Saudi Arabia are in the Jazan region. A common type of smokeless tobacco "Shammah" is prevalent in this region. This study aimed to gain an in-depth understanding of the possible psychosocial determinants of Shammah consumption among adult Shammah users in Jazan region. Methods A qualitative study was conducted by means of one-on-one interviews among thirty adult Shammah users. Participants were recruited by means of a purposive sampling technique. Data were collected using a semi-structured interview guide utilizing face-to-face and phone-call interviews. Thematic analysis with hybrid approach was used to analyze the dataset. Results Twenty-four sub-codes within four overarching themes were generated. Participants revealed uncertainty related to Shammah composition, how to quit knowledge and Shammah prevention/cessation programs. Shammah use identified as a normal phenomenon in society. Its use was frequently reported in participants’ close network but most users faced family and peers’ disapproval. Some users expressed joy, happiness and focused when using Shammah. Others were disgusted or neutral. Many users believed Shammah causes cancer and tears oral tissues. Others believed it relieves toothache or has no effect. Majority of users were confident to quit and recalled some quitting aids. Toothache, craving, drinking tea and chewing Khat (leaves of Catha edulis plant that causes moderate euphoria) perceived to be triggers to use Shammah. Availability of Shammah, withdrawal symptoms, stress, lack of support, seeing others using Shammah, losing part of routine and toothache were barriers to quit. Conclusions Shammah use was associated with uncertainty about Shammah composition and quitting knowledge, social acceptability, influence from family/friends, a range of positive and negative attitudinal beliefs toward its use and high quitting efficacy beliefs. Future interventions targeting Shammah should address the acknowledged triggers and barriers in the present study including the dual use of Shammah and Khat.

Abstract Introduction Trigeminal neuralgia is a neuropathic pain that occurs in the sensory supply region of the trigeminal nerve (V cranial nerve). The common etiology of trigeminal neuralgia is said to be vascular compression on the trigeminal nerve root. In our day-to-day practice, we see many asymptomatic patients having vascular loops around the trigeminal nerve root. We undertook this study to see the significance of nerve root compression by the vascular loop as a cause for trigeminal neuralgia. Materials and methods A total of 67 classical trigeminal neuralgia patients with NVC involving the trigeminal nerve as diagnosed on MRI brain sequences including FIESTA sequence were included in the study. NVC in all the patients were studied for the side, site of neurovascular contact of cisternal segment of the trigeminal nerve from the brainstem, deviation of nerve at NVC, atrophy of nerve, nature and origin of vascular loop causing NVC and correlated with TGN symptoms. Results Out of 67 patients studied, all of them (100%) had NVC on ipsilateral side and 26 patients (34%) had NVC at contralateral trigeminal nerve. Incidence of trigeminal neuralgia was most commonly seen between the 41 and 60 years age (64%) followed by 61–80 years with mean age of 55.6 years. Abstract Background Blastomycosis is a disease caused by the fungus Blastomyces—a thermally dimorphic fungus that can cause granulomatous and/or purulent infection. Case presentation We report here a case of chronic blastomycosis infection in a 24-year-old male patient from Saudi Arabia who presented with recurrent skin abscesses associated with deep-seated and multilevel paraspinal (dorsal and lumbar) collections and bilateral empyema with pulmonary involvement and bilateral psoas abscesses. The diagnosis was made after a CT-guided pleural biopsy revealed the characteristic histopathological findings of blastomycosis. The patient underwent several drainage procedures and was successfully treated with a long-term course of oral itraconazole. Conclusions Chronic blastomycosis may have clinical and radiologic features similar to thoracic tuberculosis or malignant disease. There is no definite clinical symptom of blastomycosis, and thus a high degree of suspicion is required for early diagnosis. This case is a rare form of blastomycosis with chronic multifocal purulent infection and is the second case of blastomycosis reported in Saudi Arabia.
