Background: The World Health Organization has introduced two sets of child growth standards for growth assessment. These reference values may not be suitable for use in other populations. Therefore, this study aimed to determine specific Z scores in the population covered by Mashhad University of Medical Sciences in Iran.Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted on data obtained from the evaluation of height, weight, and head circumference of children aged from 0 to 18 months visiting the healthcare centers of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences from March 2018 to March 2021. A total data of 128,472 children were extracted from the Electronic Health Records (SinaEHR®) and included in the study. Finally, the collected data were analyzed using Minitab and SPSS software (version 16). Results: The L, M, and S parameters were used to calculate Z scores for weight, height, and head circumference. These Z scores were then compared to standard deviation values ​for each age from our study and international standards to determine any differences. Our study found that mean weight scores were 0.16 kg higher than the CDC standard and 0.34 kg higher than the WHO growth standard. Conclusion: The provision of this exclusive reference to children's growth indicators not only allows for a more accurate evaluation but also provides the possibility of comparison with other populations using their specific growth charts. It seems that one of the best plans is to compare growth charts with international populations and national growth charts, which due to the electronization of the entire processes of the health system, is more possible than ever.

Introduction: Obesity is the fifth leading cause of death worldwide. Several approaches are used for the treatment of obesity, and acupuncture has attracted attention globally in this regard. However, the therapeutic effects of acupuncture at a molecular level remain unclear. Obesity is reported to cause oxidative stress through various mechanisms. The glutathione system is one of the main antioxidant defense mechanism. The present study aimed to evaluate the effects of acupuncture on the glutathione system as the most abundant intracellular antioxidant mechanism in overweight and obese individuals. Methods: This study was conducted on 40 obese and overweight individuals with the BMI of ≥24.9 kg/m2 who were selected randomly. The participants received authentic acupuncture (case) or sham acupuncture (control) for six weeks combined with a low-calorie diet. Before and after the intervention, the activity of glutathione peroxidase, glutathione reductase, and reduced/oxidized glutathione levels were measured. Results: Higher glutathione peroxidase activity was observed in both groups after the treatment, while the increase was more significant in the case group compared to the control group (P=0.005). In addition, reduced glutathione levels were observed to increase in both groups after the treatment. Similarly, the rate of increase in the case group was more significant than the control group (P=0.02). A significant increase was also denoted in the reduced glutathione (GSH)/oxidized glutathione (GSSG) ratio in the case group compared to the control group (P=0.02). Conclusion: According to the results, the combination of acupuncture with a standard obesity diet could increase antioxidant activity in the overweight individuals. Furthermore, the approach could further prevent oxidative damage through increasing reduced glutathione and improving the GSH/GSSG ratio.

Background: Researchers and health specialists are increasingly obtaining information on chronic illnesses from self-reports. This study validates self-reports of hypertension, based on a recently fielded survey in Mashhad City, Iran. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, we used the results of 2015 census in Mashhad City, a population based survey of people over the age of 30 (n=300745) to determine the proportion of self-reported hypertension. In this study, the data of the studied population was extracted from the databank of Sina Electronic Health Record System (SinaEHR®) and patients with ICD10 codes including I10 and I11 approved by doctors as a reference. Finally using SPSS software, version 20 (SPSS Inc., Chicago, IL, USA) and MedCalc (https://www.medcalc.org/calc/odds_ratio.php), sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, negative predictive value were calculated with 95% confidence interval. Results: Sensitivity of self-reported hypertension was 23.92% (CI95%: 23.43-24.41), specificity 97.03% (CI95%: 96.97-97.09), Positive Linkelihood Ratio 8.06% (CI95%: 7.82-8.30), Negative Linkelihood Ratio 0.78% (CI95%: 0.78-0.79), Positive Predictive Value 46.34% (CI95%: 45.60-47.08), Negative Predictive Value 92.25% (CI95%: 92.20-92.29). The self-reported sensitivity to hypertension in males, Iranian individuals, single, aged 60 and over, body mass index lower 18.5 individual with university education was higher, which was 24.67%, 31.09%, 30.07%, 32.43% and 26.03% respectively. Conclusion: Although the sensitivity of self-reported hypertension was poor in this study, but specificity and positive and negative predictive values were fairly good.

Leprosy is a neglected disease. The insidious onset of leprosy results in its late diagnosis and therefore the spread of the disease. Characterization of leprosy in areas with higher risk and collection of enough information about these spots to adopt more effective controlling measures are of great importance. In the present study, data for every patient who either referred to the health care center for leprosy or had had similar leprous symptoms between 2002 and 2016 were collected. Forty-two new cases of leprosy were identified with 28 of them being Iranian and 14 from Afghanistan. All patients were older than 15. 26.2% of the patients were women and 73.8% were men. According to World Health Organization (WHO) protocol, 36 patients (85.7%) were diagnosed to have been affected by the Multi Bacillary form; and among those patients, 61.9%, 19.05%, and 19.05% suffered from grade 1, 0, and 2 of the disease, respectively. There was a significant relationship between disability grading and sex (P=0.032), with grade 1 disability happening more often in men. Another significant relationship was also observed between Multi Bacillary form and nationality (P=0.011) indicating that Multi Bacillary form is more common among Iranians. With 0.02 leprosy cases in 10000 people, Iran is at elimination phase of the disease; however, identification of new cases in our region demands constant controlling programs and establishment of strict policies. Fortunately, the few numbers of patients diagnosed with leprosy in Northeast of Iran shows successful implementation of such policies under the scrutiny of the public health authorities.

Introduction: Post-cesarean anxiety is associated with increased pain, using analgesics and increased hospitalization time. Auriculotherapy may be useful as a complementary medicine to reduce anxiety. So, this study was performed with aim to evaluate the effects of auriculotherapy on anxiety in patients after cesarean section. Methods: This two-group randomized clinical trial study was performed on 66 pregnant women who referred to Mashhad Omolbanin hospital for caesarean section in 2015. In the intervention group, 2-3 hours after the operation, Auriculotherapy (in shenmen, subcortex, uterus, pelvic and abdominal points) was performed for 20 minutes. Before, one and two hours after the intervention, anxiety was measured by Spielberger anxiety questionnaire and blood pressure and pulse rate were evaluated. Data were analyzed by SPSS software (version 16) and statistical tests of independent t-test, paired t-test, Chi-square and Fisher test. P0.05). No significant difference was observed between two groups in terms of mean anxiety one hour after the intervention (P=0.332). Two hours after the intervention, anxiety reduced in auriculotherapy group, but increased in control group, although the difference was not significant (P=0.876). Also, no significant difference was found between two groups in terms of systolic and diastolic blood pressure and pulse rate (P>0.05). Conclusion: The use of auriculotherapy has no effect on reducing maternal anxiety after cesarean up to two hours after the intervention; therefore, it is recommended to perform further studies regarding the effects of auriculotherapy on anxiety after cesarean for longer time follow-up.

Background: With increase in the number of patients with chronic illnesses, long-term health care systems are experiencing significant problems in providing these services. Therefore, in order to organize these patients and facilitate the work, it is suggested that some care be provided by the individuals themselves. The present study aimed to investigate the effect of face to face and distance education on self-care. Methods: Data were collected through a researcher-made questionnaire. The statistical population of the study consisted of Bahvarzes of two cities: Khaf and Sarakhs. According to population size and based on Cochran formula, 45 Bahvarzes were randomly selected from khaf and Sarakh health centers as the statistical sample. The intervention of face-to-face training in Sarakhs health center and intervention of distance education in Khaf Health Center were used. Data was analyzed through SPSS 24 software. Results: Based on the results of paired t-test, it was found that face to face training intervention was effective on self-care of non-communicable diseases in Behvarz of Sarakhs city (p-value = 0.001). But self-care distance education intervention has not been effective on self-care of non-communicable diseases in Behvarz of khaf city (p-value=0.1). Also the results of comparing the mean of two methods of face to face and distance training showed that there was a significant difference between the scores mean of Behvarz in the two methods (p-value = 0.001) and the face to face training intervention was more effective than distance training intervention. Conclusion: Self-care face to face training of non-communicable diseases in Behvarz is more effective than distance training.

Objective: Exogenous hydrogen sulfide (H2S) has a positive effect on respiratory diseases. Oleo-gum of Ferula assa-foetida contains this compound. This study assessed the effects of Ferula assa-foetida L. oleo gum resin and tragacanth (Phytopaj) on patients with COVID-19. Materials and Methods: A randomized, single-blinded, controlled trial (RCT) phase 2 was conducted in Mashhad on hospitalized COVID-19 patients. In this RCT, 122 patients were randomly assigned to either receive a 14-day oral phytopaj plus ordinary treatment or ordinary treatment only. Changes in peripheral blood lymphocyte count (LC) and blood oxygen saturation (PO2) were the endpoints. Results: Mean±SD of PO2 in Phytopaj comparison ordinary treatment before intervention was 91.86±4.62 and 91.41±9.18, after the intervention it was 93.22±4.26 and 91.91±5.92 mmHg; before intervention, mean±SD of peripheral blood lymphocyte count was 1015.90±500.55, and 1104.28±543.61, and after intervention, it was 1652.27±921.38 and 1326.12±719.28/μL respectively. Participants' age, comorbidity, gender, and stage ofConclusion: Phyopaj is most useful in moderate stages of Covid19, and it is not recommended for elderly patients and patients with comorbidity until more insight is gained.

Abstract Background The rural family physician program and social protection scheme were started in Iran about 10 years ago, and no comprehensive study has been carried out to investigate the effects of this program on mortality-related health indicators yet. The present study aims to examine the impacts of implementation of the family physician program and rural insurance program, which was launched in June 2005, on neonatal (NMR), infant (IMR), and under-5-year (U5MR) mortality rates in rural areas of Iran between 1995 and 2011, using a time-series analysis. Methods Three segmented regression models were built to evaluate the effects of the program on NMR, IMR, and U5MR, and several independent variables were entered into the models, including annual incremental effect of the program (variable of interest), time effect, behvarz density, effect of the family physician and rural insurance programs, as well as socioeconomic variables including years of schooling, wealth index, sex ratio, and logarithmic scales of rural population size in each area. Data were gathered from secondary sources and other studies. Data pertaining to the year 2007 were excluded from the final analysis due to their inaccuracy. Results Our results show that the incremental effect of implementing the rural family physician program is associated with significant reductions in NMR (β = − 0.341. p − value = 0.003) and IMR (β = − 0.016. p − value = 0.009). Although the association between this effect and reductions in U5MR were evident, they were not statistically significant (β = − 0.003. p − value = 0.542). Moreover, wealth status of inhabitants was associated with reductions in NMR (β = − 0.889. p − value = 0.001), IMR (β = − 0.052. p − value

Psoriasis is an inflammatory and proliferative disease. Psoriasis clinical features vary from plaque-type psoriasis to pustular form. Psoriasis is an immune-mediated disease, which affects epidermal keratinocytes. Regard to serious side effects of chemical therapy in psoriasis patients, various projects were performed all around the world to find new therapeutic approaches for psoriasis. Various studies confirmed that Indigo naturalis treatment induced long-term remission in patients with psoriasis in all ages.
