Abstract: Benign cystic mesothelioma is a very rare and uncommon lesion, first reported by Plaut in 1928. It affects young women of reproductive age. It is usually asymptomatic or has non-specific symptoms. Diagnosis remains difficult despite the evolution of imaging, and the histopathological study is the key examination to make the diagnosis. Surgery remains the only curative treatment, regardless of significant rate of recurrence, and until today, no consensus on the therapeutic strategy is established., (Copyright © 2023 Copyright: © 2023 Journal of Minimal Access Surgery.)

Purpose: This study aimed to analyze postoperative and 90-day morbidity and mortality and their risk factors in all digestive cancer curative intent resections of a single digestive surgical department in a low-mid income country., Methods: All consecutive patients who underwent a surgical resection for digestive cancer with a curative intent between January 1, 2021, and December 31, 2021, were included. This is a retrospective analysis of a prospective cancer surgery database managed during the period. Patterns and factors associated with increased morbidity and mortality were analyzed and presented in tabular and descriptive forms., Results: Seventy-six patients were included, 38 (50%) were men with a mean age of 59 years (±13.5). Forty patients (52.63%) had tumors locally advanced, staged CT3-CT4 on preoperative imagery. Thirty-three of our population (43.42%) had laparoscopic surgery (conversion rate at 12.12%). In immediate preoperative, the morbidity rate was 36.84%; among each, 7 patients (9.21%) had serious complications (>2 Clavien-Dindo grade), and mortality rate was 5.26%. At 90 days after surgery, morbidity remained the same, and mortality increased to 7.9%. Risk factors for increased morbidity and mortality were female gender, obesity, high levels of carcinoembryonic antigen, hypoalbuminemia, laparotomy approach, hand sewn anastomosis, prolonged operating time, and wide drainage (p < 0.05)., Conclusions: This study provides figures on mortality and morbidity related to digestive cancer curative surgery in a low-mid income country digestive department and discusses risk factors increasing postoperative complications and death., (© 2023. Introduction and Importance: Meddle segment pancreatectomy (MP) is a parenchyma-sparing surgical procedure that has recently been proposed for treatment of benign or attenuated malignant tumors. However, this procedure is not fully recognized., Case Presentation: We herein report 3 patients undergoing MP for tumors of pancreas body and tail. The first patient was a 38-year-old woman with a neuroendocrine tumor, the second was a 42-year-old woman with a serous cystic neoplasm and the 3rd patient was 57 years old, with mucinous cystadenoma. A MP with spleen preservation was performed in the 3 patients, with ligatures of splenic vessels in the first patient. Only one patient developed a pancreatic fistula, which was managed medically. In our 3 patients, no endocrine or exocrine insufficiency was observed, but the first patient showed a disease recurrence with liver metastasis 3 years after surgery., Clinical Discussion: Middle pancreatectomy can not only avoid the pancreatic effects of extensive resections, but it is also a technique that has a very low operative or postoperative mortality rate., Conclusion: MP is a feasible, safe procedure with several advantages, but which unfortunately remains rarely practiced., Competing Interests: Conflict of interest N/A., (Copyright © 2023 The Authors. Plant Growth-Promoting Bacteria (PGPB) of the genus Azospirillum are known to enhance root growth and yield in many plant species including cereals. To probe the underlying mechanisms, correlations between modifications of yield and 6-leaf plantlet characteristics were estimated on maize in four fields with contrasting soil properties over two consecutive years using the commercial isolate A. lipoferum CRT1. In both years, plantlet metabolome, photosynthetic potential and organ morphology were found to display field- and inoculation-specific signatures. Metabolomic analyses revealed that A. lipoferum CRT1 mostly affected sugar metabolism with no suggested impact on N and P assimilation. Mineral nitrogen feeding increased yield but did not affect yield enhancement by the bacterial partner. However, greater improvements of leaf photosynthetic potential correlated with yield diminutions and larger plantlets in all of their proportions correlated with yield enhancements. Bacterial inoculation restored proper seed-to-adult plant ratio when it accidentally dropped below 80%. Only in these cases did it raise yield. All in all, securing mature plant density is hypothesized as being the primary driver of A. lipoferum CRT1-mediated yield enhancement in maize fields.

We assessed the effects of Ramadan fasting on metabolic control, particularly change of HDL-cholesterol in 25 type 2 diabetic patients treated with diet or oral agents, with good metabolic control. Clinical and biochemical parameters and food intake were evaluated 3 weeks before Ramadan, in the fourth week of Ramadan and 3 weeks after Ramadan.There were no changes in body weight and blood pressure nor any metabolic complications. The mean plasma fasting glucose, serum fructosamin and haemoglobin A1c did not change. We found a negative relation between cholesterol intake during Ramadan and the change of HDL-cholesterol. When cholesterol intake was lower than 400 mg/day, plasma HDL-cholesterol increased by 13% at the end of Ramadan and by 23% 3 weeks after Ramadan.

To assess the effectiveness of bromocriptine (BRC) as primary therapy in reducing the size of PRL-secreting macroadenomas with extra-sellar extension, we conducted a multicenter study in 29 patients without prior radiotherapy. Clinical presentation, response to medical treatment and long term follow-up of 29 patients with macroprolactinoma (pituitary mass more than 10 mm in diameter) were analysed. There were 19 women for 10 men. Mean age was 33 years. An hypogonadism was present in 94% of women vs 57% for men. Headaches and or visual abnormalities were present in 68% of women vs 90% of men. The mean basal serum prolactin level before treatment was 1 501 ng/ml: 202 ng/ml for women (range: 70-478 ng/ml) and 3 870 ng/ml for men (range: 100-20 476 ng/ml) and was correlated to tumoral size. 25 patients were treated with BRC as primary therapy with a mean dose of 9,7 mg/day (13 mg/day in men and 8 mg/day in women). BRC no malized serum PRL levels in all men and in 17/19 women over a mean period of 6 months, ranging from 3 to 72 months in both sexes. Tumor size was reduced by more than 50% in 18/29 patients (62%) with secondary empty sella in 5 patients and by less than 50% in 11 patients. Visual field improved in most of the patients in whom it was initially abnormal. Reduction in size was quite fast in most of patients but slower in some of them. The cumulative radiological response to BRC increased with time. Therefore, it appears that prolonged medical therapy is effective and safe in macroprolactinomas.
