15. Perspective-Taking Feedback: A New Feedback Affecting Creativity

Abstract

As two important aspects in creativity, creative performance and evaluation are influenced by many individual and contextual factors. One of such factors is feedback. Past research has also found that perspective taking increases creative performance and interpersonal creative evaluation. Although different forms of feedback, such as feedback valence, style, contents, have shown significant effects on creativity, feedback that incorporates perspective taking and its effect on creative performance and evaluations have not been examined in the literature. To fill these gaps, we examined how perspective-taking feedback affects creative performance and interpersonal and intrapersonal creative evaluations among participants who were friends in this study. We found that, compared with participants in the objective focus feedback group, those in the perspective-taking (PT) feedback group had a significantly smaller decrease of fluency between before and after experiment. Although no significant difference was found in interpersonal creative evaluation between two feedback conditions, participants in PT group had a significantly larger increase in intrapersonal creative evaluation between before and after experiment. Results and the implications were discussed under the context of creativity research.

31. Integrated Oxygen-Constraining Strategy for Ni-Rich Layered Oxide Cathodes

Abstract

Surface engineering is sought to stabilize nickel-rich layered oxide cathodes in high-energy-density lithium-ion batteries, which suffer from severe surface oxygen loss and rapid structure degradation, especially during deep delithiation at high voltages or high temperatures. Here, we propose a well-designed oxygen-constraining strategy to address the crisis of oxygen evolution. By integrating a La, Fe gradient diffusion layer and a LaFeO3coating into the Ni-rich layered particles, along with incorporating an antioxidant binder into the electrodes, three progressive lines of defense are constructed: immobilizing the lattice oxygen at the subsurface, blocking the released oxygen at the interface, and capturing the residual singlet oxygen on the external surface. As a result, effective surface passivation, mitigated bulk and surface degradation, suppressed side reactions, and enhanced electrochemical performance are achieved, far beyond conventional single surface modification. The Ni-rich layered oxide cathodes with integrated oxygen-constraining modifications demonstrate impressive cycling stability in both half-cells and full cells, achieving stable long-term cycling even at a high cutoff voltage of 4.7 V and a high temperature of 45 °C. This work provides a multilevel oxygen-constraining strategy, which can be extended to various layered oxide cathodes involving oxygen release challenges, providing an effective path for the development of high-energy-density lithium-ion batteries.

41. Crystal structure and encapsulation dynamics of ice II-structured neon hydrate

Abstract

Neon hydrate was synthesized and studied by in situ neutron diffraction at 480 MPa and temperatures ranging from 260 to 70 K. For the first time to our knowledge, we demonstrate that neon atoms can be enclathrated in water molecules to form ice II-structured hydrates. The guest Ne atoms occupy the centers of D2O channels and have substantial freedom of movement owing to the lack of direct bonding between guest molecules and host lattices. Molecular dynamics simulation confirms that the resolved structure where Ne dissolved in ice II is thermodynamically stable at 480 MPa and 260 K. The density distributions indicate that the vibration of Ne atoms is mainly in planes perpendicular to D2O channels, whereas their distributions along the channels are further constrained by interactions between adjacent Ne atoms.

49. Putting Raters in Ratees' Shoes: Perspective Taking and Assessment of Creative Products

Abstract

This study reported 2 experiments that studied the effect of perspective taking on assessment of creative products by using human raters. Forty responses of 2 alternative uses tasks (AUTs) and 15 alien stories generated by 6th-grade students were used as assessment materials. Undergraduate students as the novice raters assessed the products under 3 experimental conditions: assessing without any information of the ratees, assessing only with age information of the ratees, and assessing with age information and taking the perspective of the ratees. Results of Experiment 1 showed significant differences in creativity ratings between group 1 and 2. But no significant difference was found between group 2 and 3. In Experiment 2, raters in group 1 used objective perception and raters in group 3 were asked to take the perspective for more time. Raters in group 3 assigned higher ratings than the other 2 groups but no difference was found between group 1 and 2. Overall, the results showed the effect of perspective taking on assessment of creative products. Possible mechanisms of the effect and implications for creativity assessment and creativity teaching practice were discussed.
