Amaç: Eczane çalışanlarında bel ağrısı sıklığı ve bel ağrısını etkileyen kişisel, mesleki ve psikososyal risk faktörleri ile ilişkisini araştırarak literatüre katkıda bulunmak.Yöntem: Bu çalışmaya eczanelerde çalışan toplam 200 birey (124 kadın, 76 erkek) katılmıştır. Değerlendirici tarafından oluşturulan dört ayrı bölümden oluşan bir anket uygulanmıştır. Anketin ilk bölümünde; yaş, cinsiyet, ikinci bölümde; mesleki risk faktörleri, üçüncü bölümde; psikososyal risk faktörleri dördüncü bölümde; bel ağrısının özelliği yer almıştır. Katılımcıların mesleki yaşamı, gelir durumu, işyeri memnuniyeti ve ağrı düzeyi Görsel Analog Skala ile değerlendirilmiştir.Bulgular: Yüz yirmi altı birey bel ağrısı yaşadığını belirtmiştir. Bel ağrısı kadınlarda %68.5, erkeklerde %53.9 olarak bulunmuştur. Gelir durumundan memnun olan 31 kişinin %41.9'u bel ağrısı yaşamadığını belirtirken, bel ağrısı olan kişilerin gelir memnuniyetleri ise %15.9'dur. Aile öyküsü bel ağrısı varlığı için en etkili risk faktörüydü.Sonuç: Bel ağrısı görülme oranını azaltmak için gerekli düzenlemeler yapılmalı, postüral uyum, çalışma koşullarının düzenlenmesi ve koruyucu rehabilitasyon yaygınlaştırılmalıdır., Objective: To contribute to the literature by investigating the frequency of low back pain in pharmacy worker and its relationship with personal, occupational and psychosocial risk factors affecting low back pain.Method: A total of 200 individuals (124 female , 76 male) working in pharmacies participated in this study. A questionnaire consisting of four separate sections created by the evaluator was applied. In the first part of the questionnaire; age, gender, in the second part; occupational risk factors, in the third part; psychosocial risk factors, in the fourth part; the characteristic of low back pain. Occupational life, income status, workplace satisfaction and pain level of participants was evaluated with the Visual Analogue Scale.Results: One hundred twenty-six individuals stated that they experienced low back pain. Low back pain in female was found to be 68.5% and 53.9% in male. Thirty-one people who were satisfied with their income status stated that they did not experience low back pain in 41.9%, whereas the income satisfaction of people with low back pain was 15.9%. Family history was the most effective risk factor for the presence of low back pain.Conclusion: In order to decrease the incidence rate of low back pain, necessary regulation should be made, postural alignment, regulation of working conditions and preventive rehabilitation should be expanded.

Aim: Genital human papillomavirus (HPV) is the most common sexually transmitted infection worldwide. Besides commongenital warts, it is also associated with cervical, anal, penile, and oral cancers. It is important to increase the knowledgelevel of society to prevent the development of cervical cancer, which is an avoidable disease. Therefore, we aimed toevaluate Pamukkale University medical students’ knowledge level about the importance of genital warts and to increasetheir current knowledge.Material and Methods: A questionnaire composed of 30 closed-ended questions was fulfilled by medical students inthe Pamukkale University Faculty of Medicine. The questionnaire was applied by using Google Forms. The questions wereasked for evaluating their knowledge on viral transmission, risky sexual behaviors, required measurements, HPV-relateddiseases, and vaccination in an informative manner (e.g., do you know that HPV can cause warts and/or malignant lesionson the skin, in the oral cavity, anal or vaginal canal and cervix uteri?). After completing the questionnaire, they were askedwhether their knowledge was increased or not.Results: The study included 808 medical students. Most of the students (85%) stated that they knew about HPV andgenital warts. Seventy percent of them knew the relationship between HPV and cervical cancer, also, 52.2% of the students(21.7% of the male students) knew that anal infections and malignancies were seen more common in men who have sexwith men. Seventy-four percent of them had heard about the vaccine, mostly from school or classes (57.5%). Mostly,they approved being vaccinated (79.5%) and educated on sex-related issues in an age-dependent manner (97%) forthemselves and their children. After completing the questionnaire, 75.4% out of the students who thought that they hadknown about HPV (85%) declared that their knowledge increased. Totally 90,1% of all students had increased knowledgeat the end of the questionnaire, which was statistically significant (p:0.001).Conclusion: Although the knowledge of the medical students seems to be generally sufficient, it was seen that nearly halfof them did not know about the vaccine and the relationship between HPV, cervical cancer, and other malignities. As aresult, HPV and related malignant diseases, which are known inadequately even by medical students, continue to threatenpublic health. Thus, we think that education and vaccination should be encouraged so that individuals can have a chanceto protect themselves, their partners, and their children from cervical cancer and other possible malignities., Amaç: Genital insan papilloma virüs (human papilloma virus, HPV) enfeksiyonu, dünyada en sık görülen cinsel yollabulaşan enfeksiyondur. Basit genital siğillerin yanında, başta servikal kanser olmak üzere, anal, penil, oral kanserlerle ilişkiliolduğu bilinmektedir. Önlenebilir bir hastalık olan serviks kanseri gelişiminden kaçınmak için toplumun bilgi seviyesininartırılması büyük önem taşımaktadır. Bu nedenle Pamukkale Üniversitesi tıp fakültesi öğrencilerinin genital siğillerinönemi ile ilgili bilgi düzeylerinin değerlendirilmesi ve mevcut bilgi seviyelerinin artırılması planlandı.Gereç ve Yöntemler: Pamukkale Üniversitesi tıp fakültesi öğrencileri gönüllülük esasına dayalı olarak, 30 adet kapalı uçlusoru içeren anketi yanıtladılar. Anket formu Google Forms kullanılarak internet ortamında oluşturuldu. Anket soruları, HPVbulaş yolu ve seyri, bulaş riskini artıran durumlar, bulaş sonrası önlemler, HPV ile ilişkili hastalıklar ve HPV aşısıyla ilgili bilgidüzeyinin değerlendirmek amacıyla ve mevcut bilgilerini artıracak şekilde soruldu (Örneğin; HPV’nin deride, ağız içinde,anal kanalda, vajinada, rahim ağzında siğillere ve/ veya kötü huylu oluşumlara sebep olabileceğini biliyor musunuz?).Anketi yanıtladıktan sonra, öğrencilere konu ile ilgili mevcut bilgilerinin artıp artmadığı soruldu.Bulgular: Çalışmaya 808 tıp fakültesi öğrencisi katıldı. Öğrencilerin %85’i HPV ve genital siğillerle ilgili bilgisi olduğunubelirtti. Yüzde 70’i HPV ve servikal kanserin ilişkili olduğunu biliyordu. Öğrencilerin yüzde 52,2’si (erkek öğrencilerinse%21,7’si), anal enfeksiyon ve malignitelerin erkeklerle cinsel teması olan erkeklerde daha sık görüldüğünü biliyordu. Yüzde74’ü HPV aşısını duymuştu, aşıyı duyanların çoğunun okul ya da derslerden (%57,5’si) bilgi edindiği öğrenildi. Öğrencilerinçoğu, hem kendileri hem çocukları için, aşılama (%79,5) ve yaşa uygun cinsel eğitim verilmesini (%97) istiyordu. Anketsorularını yanıtladıktan sonra, HPV ile ilgili bilgim var diyen %85 kişiden, %75,4’ünün bilgisinin arttığı, tüm öğrencilerin ise%90,1’inin bilgisinin istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bir şekilde arttığı tespit edildi (p:0,001).Sonuç: Tıp fakültesi öğrencilerinin bilgileri genel olarak yeterli gibi görünse de, aşı hakkında ve HPV’nin serviks kanseri ve diğermalignitelerle de ilişkili olabildiği konusunda öğrencilerin yarısına yakın bir kısmının bilgisi olmadığı görüldü. Sonuç olarak tıpfakültesi öğrencilerinin dahi henüz yeterince bilgi sahibi olamadığı HPV ve ilişkili malign hastalıklar, toplum sağlığını tehditetmeye devam etmektedir. Bu nedenle, bireylerin kendilerini, partnerlerini ve çocuklarını başta servikal kanser olmak üzere olasıdiğer malignitelerden koruyabilecek şansa sahip olabilmeleri için, eğitim ve aşının teşvik edilmesi gerektiğini düşünmekteyiz

Determining that miRNAs play a role in breast cancer pathogenesis suggests that it may be useful in the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer. In this study, 39 patients with invasive breast cancer were diagnosed with serum levels of 20 miRNAs(miR-105, miR-21, miR-141, miR-200a, miR-200b, miR-200c, miR-203, miR-210, miR-375, miR-34a, miR-133a, miR-155, miR-139-5p, miR-143, miR-145, miR-365, miR-299-5p, miR-411, miR-452, miR-17) were analyzed during diagnosis and after treatment. In the analysis results, it is detected that serum levels of miR-200c(p=0.030), miR-375(p=0.045), miR-34a(p=0.042) were significantly higher in the local advanced/metastatic group. Serum level of miR-141(p=0.062) was lower in patients with positive lymph node involvement, whereas miR-133a(p=0.037) levels were higher in the same patient group. MiR-105(p=0.015), miR-203(p=0.015), miR-375(p=0.033), miR-145(p=0.025) serum levels were significantly higher in the progesterone receptor negative group, likewise miR-105(p=0.053) levels were high in the estrogen receptor negative patient group. The high levels of miR-375 and miR-133a were noticeable in human epidermal growth factor receptor-2 positive patients(p=0.037 and p=0.014, respectively). MiR-143(p=0.009) and miR-145(p=0.017) levels were observed to be higher in the patient group with a ki-67 index>20%. It was found that 2 miRNAs(miR-133a(p=0.018) and miR-139-5p(p=0.004)) were significantly higher in patients in the luminal B group, which were separated by molecular subgroups. Nine of miRNAs that evaluated(miR-105(p=0.0001), miR-21(p=0.001), miR-141(p=0.041), miR-200a(p=0.003), miR-200b(p=0.0001), miR-200c(p=0.0001), miR-203(p=0.0001), miR-34a(p=0.0001), miR-452(p=0.018)) significantly increased after treatment and 5 of the miRNAs(miR-155(p=0.0001), miR-143(p=0.0001), miR-145(p=0.0001), miR-365(p=0.0001), miR-299-5p(p=0.0001)) were significantly reduced after treatment. We think that miRNAs may help in evaluating the follow-up and prognosis of invasive breast cancer.

Amaç: Bu çalışmada bel ağrılı bireylerde ağrı şiddetini ve özür düzeyini etkileyen faktörlerin araştırılması amaçlandı. Gereç ve Yöntem: Pamukkale Üniversitesi Nöroşirurji Polikliniğine bel ağrısı şikayetiyle başvuran 205 (131 kadın; 74 erkek) hasta çalışmaya dâhil edildi. Hastaların demografik bilgileri kaydedildikten sonra ağrı şiddeti, özür düzeyi, ağrı şiddetini ve özür düzeyini etkileyen faktörler sorgulandı. Ağrı şiddetini belirlemek için Görsel Analog Skalası (GAS) ve özür düzeyi için Oswestry Özür İndeksi (OÖİ) kullanıldı. Bulgular: Katılımcıların ortalama yaşı 47,96 ± 16,41’dir. Ağrı şiddeti ortalamaları 6,18 ± 2,27 cm ve ağrı süreleri 98,72 ± 222,10 hafta olarak bulundu. Özürlülük düzeyi ortalamaları 44,93 ± 18,73 idi. Katılımcıların 125’i (%61) yürümede, 113'ü (%55,1) uzun süre ayakta kalmada ve 106’sı (%51,7) öne eğilme sırasında ağrı şiddetinde artış olduğunu belirtti. Yokuş inmenin, oturmanın, öne eğilmenin ağrıyı en çok arttıran faktörler ve basamak çıkmanın, yokuş çıkmanın, ev iş yapmanın özür düzeyini arttıran faktörler olduğu saptandı. Sonuç: Bel ağrısı olan hastalarda ağrı şiddetini artıran ve özür düzeyini etkileyen faktörlerin belirlemesi, hastaların bu konuda bilinçlendirilmesi ve önleyici tedbirlerin alınması açısından önemlidir

Objective: We aimed to examine the antipsychotics used by patients hospitalized in the child and youth inpatient service providing tertiary care to investigate whether there is a difference between admission and discharge, polypharmacy, which antipsychotics are used, and which psychotropics are used concomitant with antipsychotics.Methods: Research data were collected retrospectively from all children and adolescents hospitalized in a child and adolescent psychiatry inpatient service in a university hospital in a 4-year period (2015-2019). The sociodemographic and clinical characteristics of the patients, the antipsychotics they used at admission and discharge, the other psychotropics concomitantly used with antipsychotics, and the side effects associated with antipsychotics during hospitalization were collected from the files of the 363 patients.Results: Patients on antipsychotics increased 12.1% from hospitalization to discharge. Antipsychotic polypharmacy increased from 16.2% at admission to 30.7% at discharge. Logistic regression analysis was performed to investigate the factors affecting antipsychotic and antipsychotic polypharmacy. Self-harm, aggression/violence, and extended hospitalization were factors associated with increased antipsychotic use. Psychotic symptoms, psychotic disorder, and extended hospitalization were factors associated with an increase in antipsychotic polypharmacy.Conclusions: Understanding the factors that may cause antipsychotic use and polypharmacy in inpatient services in children and adolescents may prevent unnecessary drug use and long-term side effects that may occur due to these drugs.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate and compare traumatic and mental effects and PTG by comparing a patient group in hematological-oncological cancer remission with a healthy control group. Materials and methods: Children and adolescents aged 8-18 years, who were in remission with a diagnosis of childhood cancer, and presented at the Paediatric Hematology Department of PAUTF between 1 September 2021 and 30 April 2022 were included as the study group and a control group was formed of healthy children and adolescents with no history of cancer diagnosis. The Post-traumatic Growth Inventory (PTGI), the Child Revised Impact of Events Scale (CRIES-13) and the Revised Child Anxiety and Depression Scale-Child Version (RCADS-CV) were applied to all the children in both groups. A sociodemographic information form prepared by the researchers, and the Revised Child Anxiety and Depression Scale- Parent Version (RCADS-PV) were applied to parents. Results: Evaluation was made of 27 patients aged 8-18 years with a diagnosis of childhood cancer who were in remission, and a control group of 25 healthy children. No statistically significant difference was determined between the groups in respect of parental ages, family structure, parental educational levels, and mean monthly family income (p>0.05).In the comparisons of the raw scores of the RCADS-PV between the two groups, RCADS-PV Panic Disorder, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, and Depression subscale scores were found to be statistically significantly higher in the control group than in the remission group (p=0.048; p=0.045; p=0.047). When the CRIES-13 scores of the two groups were compared, no statistically significant difference was found (p=0.659).When the PTGI scales and subscales of the two groups were compared; while no statistically significant difference was found in the total PTGI score (p=0.066), the change in life philosophy subscale and the change in relationships with others subscale was found to be statistically significantly higher in the remission group than in the control group (p=0.038; p=0.05).Considering the relationship between CRIES-13 and PTGI scale scores, no statistically significant relationship was found in the remission group. Conclusion: Cancer survivors grow from this negative experience, become stronger and survive with positive gains; they can adjust their expectations from themselves, the world and their future. Considering the current prevalence of cancer and increasing survival rates with treatments, new multicenter studies with larger samples are needed on this subject.

In this study, we aimed to investigate the relationship between the viral load detected by PCR and the biochemical and demographic data of patients who were admitted to our hospital and positive for SARS-CoV-2 infection. Data from 132 laboratory-confirmed adult patients were retrospectively analyzed. COVID-19 patients were classified in different groups as pneumonia-non pneumonia and symptomatic- asymptomatic patients. In all, 77.2% patients were symptomatic and 39.4% had pneumonia. The most common laboratory abnormalities of all patients were elevated C-reactive protein (CRP), D-dimer, Fibrinogen and Neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio (NLR). Statistically significant differences (p < 0.05) were found between the symptomatic and asymptomatic groups regarding CRP, NLR, Prothrombin Time (PT), international normalized ratio (INR), D-dimer and Fibrinogen. Additionally of these parameters significantly higher aspartate amino-transferase (AST), blood urea nitrogen (BUN), creatinine and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) observed in pneumonia group compared to non-pneumonia group. The cycle threshold (Ct) values in all patients were 32.42 ± 6.03 and there were no significant differences in Ct values between the groups. There was a negatively significant correlation between Ct and blood urea nitrogen (BUN) (r=-0,205, P=0.019). Abnormalities of several hematologic and biochemical biomarkers were associated with SARSCoV-2 infection and disease severity. To investigate the association with disease severity and viral load, quantitative PCR results would be more accurate than semi-quantitative Ct results. [Med-Science 2021; 10(2.000): 469-73]

Background Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a major global problem, and as its pathogenesis is understood more clearly, therapeutic options expand accordingly. The mitochondrial open reading frame of the 12S rRNA-c (MOTS-c) is a novel mitochondria-derived protein acting on metabolic homeostasis. In this study, we aimed to investigate the role of serum MOTS-c in the pathophysiology of the disease in MS patients and to discuss the mechanism of MOTS-c. Methodology In total, 43 patients diagnosed with relapsing-remitting MS and 41 healthy controls were enrolled in the study. MOTS-c, fasting blood glucose, insulin, Homeostatic Model Assessment for Insulin Resistance (HOMA-IR), lipid panel, and body mass index levels were assessed. Results The participants' MOTS-c levels remained significantly lower than that of the control group, while their fasting blood glucose and HOMA-IR values were higher. The multivariate logistic regression analysis established that increased MOTS-c levels could be a protective factor against the development of MS disease. The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve for MOTS-c was calculated as 0.782 (95% confidence interval = 0.684-0.879, p = 0.0001). Conclusions This study is the first to scrutinize MOTS-c levels in MS patients. We tried to provide clinical evidence that MOTS-c could act as a highly discriminative biomarker between MS patients and control groups, which may hold great promise for future therapeutic options.

Background/Aim: Neuropathic pain is a condition that can be seen in the post-stroke period and affects the patient's quality of life, mood, and participation in the rehabilitation program. Our aim in this study is to investigate the frequency of neuropathic pain in stroke patients and to examine whether they receive appropriate treatment.Method: This study was designed as a retrospective, single-center clinical trial. Patients with stroke who applied to our physical medicine and rehabilitation outpatient clinic between June 2021 and June 2022 were included in the study. Patients with history of aphasia, cognitive dysfunction, subarachnoid hemorrhage, arteriovenous malformation, tumor, traumatic brain injury, complex regional pain syndrome were excluded from the study. The plegic side, the severity of pain with the numerical pain scale (NPS) and neuropathic pain with the S-LANSS (Self – Leeds Assesment of Neuropathic Symptoms and Signs) questionnaire were questioned by making phone calls with the patients. The drug treatments they used were questioned.Results: A total of 41 patients (22 male, 19 female) were included in this study. The mean age of the patients was 63.54 ± 10.97 years. There were 22 right hemiplegic and 19 left hemiplegic patients. Neuropathic pain frequency was 41.5% (17 patients). NPS, S-LANSS (p = 0.0001) and gabapentinoid use (p = 0.014) were found to be significantly higher in people with neuropathic pain. Conclusion: The frequency of neuropathic pain was found to be significantly higher in stroke patients. Detecting neuropathic pain and treating it appropriately will improve the quality of life of stroke patients., Amaç: Nöropatik ağrı, inme sonrası dönemde görülebilen ve hastanın yaşam kalitesini, ruh halini ve rehabilitasyon programına katılımını etkileyen bir durumdur. Bu çalışmadaki amacımız inmeli hastalarda nöropatik ağrı sıklığını araştırmak ve uygun tedavi alıp almadıklarını incelemektir.Metod: Çalışma retrospektif, tek merkezli bir klinik araştırma olarak tasarlandı. Haziran 2021-Haziran 2022 tarihleri arasında hastanemizin Fizik Tedavi ve Rehabilitasyon polikliniğine inme tanısıyla başvuran hastalar çalışmaya dahil edildi. Afazi, kognitif disfonksiyon, subaraknoid kanama, arteriyovenöz malformasyon, tümör, travmatik beyin hasarı, kompleks bölgesel ağrı sendromu öyküsü olan hastalar çalışma dışı bırakıldı. Hastalarla telefon görüşmesi yapılarak, plejik tarafı ve ağrısının şiddeti (numerik ağrı skalası ile) soruldu. Nöropatik ağrı açısından S-LANSS (Self – Leeds Assesment of Neuropathic Symptoms and Signs) anketi yapıldı. Hastanın bu ağrı için kullandığı ilaçlar sorgulandı.Bulgular: Bu çalışmaya toplam 41 hasta (22 erkek, 19 kadın) dahil edildi. Hastaların ortalama yaşı 63,54 ± 10,97 yıl idi. 22 sağ hemiplejik ve 19 sol hemiplejik hasta vardı. Nöropatik ağrı sıklığı %41,5 (17 hasta) idi. Nöropatik ağrısı olan kişilerde Numerik ağrı skalası, S-LANSS skoru (p=0,0001) ve gabapentinoid kullanımı (p=0,014) anlamlı olarak daha yüksek bulundu.Sonuç: inmeli hastalarda nöropatik ağrı sıklığı belirgin şekilde yüksek bulunmuştur. Amaç: Sol atriyal ve sol ventriküler yeniden şekillenme inmeye neden olabilir. Bu çalışmanın amacı, kaynağıbelirsiz embolik inme (ESUS) hastalarında sol atriyum fonksiyonlarını ve sol ventrikül strain değerlerini analizetmektir.Gereç ve yöntem: Bu prospektif çalışma cinsiyet ve yaş açısından benzer olan 35 adet ESUS’lu hasta (61±10yaşında) ve 37 adet kontrol grubunu (60±10 yaşında) içeriyordu. Tüm hastalara beyin bilgisayarlı tomografisi (BT),konvansiyonel ve difüzyon manyetik rezonans görüntüleme (MRG), BT veya MR anjiyografi, 12 derivasyonluEKG, transtorasik ekokardiyografi ve 48 saat Holter EKG monitörizasyonu yapıldı. Sol atriyum hacimleri vefonksiyonları ekokardiyografi ile belirlendi. Sol atriyum rezervuar ve ventrikül strain değerleri speckle-trackingmetoduyla longitudinal olarak ölçüldü. CHA2DS2-VASc, Amerikan Ulusal Sağlık Enstitüsü İnme Skalası(NIHSS), Modifiye Rankin Skalası (mRS) skorları hesaplandı.Bulgular: Major kardiyovasküler risk faktörleri iki grup arasında da benzerdi. ESUS’lu hastaların ortalamaCHA2DS2-VASc skoru 2,6±1,2, NIHSS 3,9±3,0 ve mRS 1,3±0,8 saptandı. Atrial elektromekanik süreler vegecikme zamanları, sol atriyum boşalma fraksiyonu ve hacim indeksleri 2 grup arasında benzer bulundu. Solatriyal rezervuar strain, kontrol grubuna göre düşük saptandı (25,2±%7,2 vs. 29,7±%8,8, p=0.019). Sol ventrikülglobal longitudinal strain kontrol grubuna göre düşük saptandı (-14,7±%4,2 vs -16,4±%3,9, p=0.031). Solatriyum rezervuar ve sol ventrikül strain değerleri ile skorlar arasında korelasyon saptanmadı (CHA2DS2-VASc,NIHSS, mRS).Sonuç: ESUS’lu hastalar, kontrol grubuna göre daha düşük sol atriyal rezervuar ve sol ventriküler globallongitudinal straine sahipti. Sol atriyal hacim indeksleri, sol atriyum boşalma fraksiyonu ve elektromekanik süreler2 grup arasında farklılık göstermemektedir. Sol atriyal ve ventriküler yeniden şekillenmesinin ekokardiyografikölçümü, ESUS’tan ikincil koruma için büyük bir potansiyele sahiptir. Bulgularımızın doğrulanması için daha fazlaçalışmaya ihtiyaç vardır., Purpose: Left atrial (LA) and left ventricular (LV) remodelling may lead to stroke. The aim of this study was toanalyze LA function and LV strain in patients with embolic stroke of undetermined source (ESUS).Material and methods: This prospective study included 35 ESUS patients and 37 age and sex-matchedcontrols. All participants underwent brain computed tomography (CT), conventional and diffusion-weightedmagnetic resonance imaging (MRI), CT or MR angiography, 12 lead ECG, transthoracic echocardiography, and48 hour Holter ECG monitoring. LA volume and function were determined by echocardiography. LA reservoir andLV strains were measured longitudinally by speckle-tracking method. CHA2DS2-VASc, The National Institutesof Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS), modified Rankin Scale (mRS) scores were calculated.Results: Major cardiovascular risk factors were similar between the two groups. The mean CHA2DS2-VAScscore was 2.6±1.2. NIHSS was 3.9±3.0 and mRS was 1.3±0.8. Atrial electromechanical coupling intervals anddelays, LA emptying fraction and volumes were similar between the two groups. LA reservoir strain was lower thancontrols (25.2±7.2% vs. 29.7±8.8%, p=0,019). LV global longitudinal strain was lower than controls (-14.7±4.2%vs -16.4±3.9%, p=0,031). There was no correlation between LA, LV strains and the scores (CHA2DS2-VASc,NIHSS, mRS).Conclusions: ESUS patients had lower LA reservoir and LV longitudinal global strains than controls. Left atrialvolume index, LA emptying fraction did not differ between the two groups. Echocardiographic quantification ofLA and LV remodelling has great potential for secondary prevention from ESUS. Further studies are needed toconfirm our findings.

Giriş: Boyun ağrısı, günümüzde önemli bir sağlık sorunu haline gelmektedir. Bunun en önemli nedenlerinden biri de teknolojik gelişmeler ile birlikte akıllı telefonların kullanımın artmasıdır. Çalışmamızın amacı ev hanımlarında akıllı telefon kullanımının boyun ağrısına olan etkisini incelemektir. Materyal-Metot: Çalışmaya Denizli ilinde yaşayan 25-50 (38,22 ± 7,24 yıl) yaş aralığında ve boyun ağrısı olan toplam 169 ev hanımı dahil edildi. Çalışmaya katılan ev hanımlarından demografik veri formu, Akıllı Telefon Bağımlılık Ölçeği (ATÖ), Boyun Özürlülük İndeksi (BÖİ), Bournemouth Boyun Anketi (BBA)’nden oluşan anket formunu cevaplamaları istendi.Bulgular: Ev hanımlarının %42’sinin 6-10 yıldır akıllı telefon kullandığı, günlük telefon kullanım süreleri incelendiğinde ev hanımlarının %53,3’ünün günlük 2-5 saat akıllı telefon kullandığı tespit edildi. Katılımcıların %96,4’ü son 12 ayda en az 1 kez boyun ağrısı yaşadığını belirtirken, %82,8’inin uzun süre akıllı telefon kullanımı sonrası boyun ağrısı yaşadığı kaydedildi. Sonuç: Son yıllarda vazgeçilmez hale gelen akıllı telefonların kullanım süresinin uzun olması, akıllı telefon bağımlılığının fazla olması ev hanımlarında boyun özrüne ve boyun özür şiddetinin artmasına sebep olmaktadır. Toplum sağlığı açısından daha kapsamlı çalışmalar ile akıllı telefon kullanımının boyun ağrısı üzerindeki etkisinin farklı değerlendirmeler ile ele alınarak incelenmesi gerektiğini düşünmekteyiz, Objective: Neck pain is becoming an important health problem lately. One of the most important reasons for this is the increase in the use of smartphones with technological developments. The aim of our study is to examine the effect of smartphone use on neck pain in housewives.Materials and Methods: A total of 169 housewives, aged 25 and 50 (38.22 ± 7.24 years) living in Denizli and having neck pain, were included in the study. Housewives participating in the study were asked to answer a questionnaire consisting of demographic data form, Smartphone Addiction Scale (SAS), Neck Disability Index (NDI), Neck Bournemouth Questionnaire (NBQ).Results: It was found that 42% of the housewives have been using a smart phone for 6-10 years, and when the daily phone usage times were examined, it was determined that 53.3% of the housewives used a smart phone for 2-5 hours a day. While 96.4% of the participants stated that they experienced neck pain at least once in the last 12 months, 82.8% of them experienced neck pain after using a smartphone for a long time.Conclusions: The long usage period of smart phones, which have become indispensable in recent years, and the high addiction to smart phones cause neck disability and the severity of neck disability in housewives. We think that the effect of smartphone use on neck pain should be examined with different evaluations with more comprehensive studies in terms of public health.

Research question: Is there a relationship between embryo quality, pregnancy rates and apoptotic gene expression in cumulus cells of oocytes collected from patients with poor ovarian response and polycystic ovary syndrome?Design: Fifty infertile couples who underwent assisted reproductive technology treatment were included in the study (Approval date 4 February 2020, number 03). The patients were divided into four group: control (n = 9; 90 oocytes), unexplained infertility (n = 8; 86 oocytes), polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) (n = 6; 137 oocytes) and poor ovarian response (POR) (n = 27; 124 oocytes). Cumulus cells were isolated individually from 437 oocytes obtained. Intracytoplasmic sperm injection was undertaken on 365 mature oocytes. The embryos were monitored. Caspase-3, Bax and Bcl-2 gene expressions of the cumulus cells were measured by real-time polymerase chain reaction.Results: A significant and negative correlation was found between Bax and Bcl-2 expressions of the cumulus cells of poor-quality embryos. The increase in Caspase-3 gene expression in the POR group statistically decreases the pregnancy rates. Fertilization and good-quality embryo development of 365 oocytes whose cumulus cells were examined, however, were not associated with apoptotic gene expression. The Bax/Bcl-2 ratio was found to be significantly lower in cumulus cells of mature oocytes.Conclusions: Our results demonstrated no significant associations between fertilization, quality embryo development and apoptotic gene expression. Bax expression and the Bax/Bcl-2 ratio are high in immature oocyte cumulus cells has shown us that the apoptotic process may begin when the cumulus-oocyte connection exists.

Amaç: Bu çalışmanın amacı, yaşlı yetişkinlerde Yaşam Alanı Değerlendirme (LSA) Türkçe versiyonunun güvenilirliğini ve geçerliliğini belirlemekti. Yöntem: Çalışmaya ortalama yaşı 72.81±7.63 olan yüz elli iki yaşlı birey alındı. İleri-geri çeviri işlemini takiben, LSA skorlarının eşzamanlı geçerliliğini test etmek için Yaşlılar İçin Fiziksel Aktivite Ölçeği (PASE) ve 36 Maddeli Kısa Form Sağlık Anketi (SF-36) dâhil olmak üzere bir dizi hareketlilik ve genel sağlıkla ilgili değişkenler ile karşılaştırıldı. Sonuçlar: LSA'daki maddelerin hiçbiri değiştirilmedi. İlk değerlendirme için Cronbach α katsayısı 0,714 idi. Test-tekrar test güvenilirliği için sınıf içi korelasyon katsayısı 0,991 ve % 95 güven aralığı 0,986-0,994 idi. En yüksek tutarlılığın ekipman puanlarında elde edildiği gözlendi. LSA'nın tüm alt puanlarının PASE puanları ve SF-36 alt puanları ile anlamlı bir ilişkisi olduğu bulundu. LSA ve PASE’in toplam puanları arasında çok güçlü bir pozitif korelasyon bulundu (r = 0.896). Benzer şekilde, SF-36'nın alt fiziksel fonksiyon ile LSA kompozit puanı arasında çok güçlü bir korelasyon gözlendi (r = 0.841).Tartışma: Çalışmanın sonuçları, LSA'nın Türkçe versiyonunun güçlü ölçüm özelliklerine sahip olduğunu ve LSA'nın yaşlı bireylerin genel sağlık ve fiziksel aktivite düzeyleri ile ilgili yaşam alanlarını değerlendirmek için hassas bir araç olduğunu göstermiştir. Bu nedenle LSA Türkçe versiyonu yaşlı bireylerle ilgili araştırma ve uygulama alanları için geçerli ve güvenilir bir ölçek olarak kullanılabilir., Purpose: The aim of this study was to determine the reliability and validity of the Turkish version of the Life Space Assessment (LSA) in older adults. Methods: A hundred fifty-two elderly people with a mean age was 72.81±7.63 years recruited to the study. Following the forward-backward translation procedure, the LSA scores were compared with a number of mobility and general health related variables, including the Physical Activity Scale for the Elderly (PASE) and the 36-Item Short Form Health Survey (SF-36) to test the concurrent validity. Results: None of the items in the LSA were changed. Cronbach’s α coefficient was 0.714 for the initial evaluation. The intraclass correlation coefficient for the test-retest reliability was 0.991 with a 95% confidence interval of 0.986–0.994. It found that the highest consistence was obtained in the equipment scores. All the subscores of LSA found to have a significant relationship with PASE scores and SF-36 subscores. A very strong positive correlation found between the total score of LSA and PASE (r = 0.896). Similarly, a very strong correlation observed between SF-36's subscore physical function, and LSA composite score (r = 0.841). Conclusion: The results of the study showed that the Turkish version of LSA has strong measurement features and that the LSA is a sensitive tool for assessing the life domains of elderly individuals related to their general health and physical activity level. Therefore, the Turkish version of the LSA could be used as a reliable and valid scale in research and practice areas related to elderly people.

Background: We investigated the association of monocyte to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL) ratio (MHR), neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and lymphocyte to monocyte ratio (LMR) with prognostic value and infarct types in patients with acute ischemic cerebrovascular disease (CVD).Matherial and Methods: The study was carried out retrospectively in 223 patients, but after the exclusion criterion, 150 patients with acute ischemic CVD were included to the study. The complete blood count and lipid profile were examined at the admission of the patients. For initial neurologic status, National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) score and for following-up, modified Rankin Scale (mRS) score were evaluated. After the etiological investigations and neuroimaging, infarct types were defined.Results: We found that as the NIHSS score increased, LMR values decreased and NLR values increased statistically (p=0.02, p=0.013). Additionally, statistical significant differences were determined between MHR values and mRS scores (p=0.045). According to the results of regression analysis, it was observed that the increase of MHR was statistically significant on the MRS of people with cardioembolic infarction (p=0.004, StB=0.383).Conclusion: Our study provides, LMR and NLR values are related with the initial neurologic state, and they would be prognostic markers for the neurological deficit of acute cerebrovascular disease. MHR can be a follow-up marker for CVD and also a predictable marker for cardioembolic infarct type.

Purpose: This study was planned to examine the relationship between body flexibility and stability in the elderly and to compare it with adults., Methods: People over 40-year-of-age had no musculoskeletal problems in the spine, had good cognitive functions, and could walk independently were included in this cross-sectional study. 156 participants were grouped as the young (n: 65) and the elderly group (n: 91). Flexibility assessment included Sit and Reach Test (SRT), Back Extension Test (BET) and Side Bending Test (SBT). Antero-posterior stability of body was measured by Functional Reach Test (FRT)., Results: The flexibility of trunk in four directions and stability were better in young group than elderly group (p0.05)., Conclusion: Loss of flexibility is a more important risk factor than aging for balance and stability impairment. So it is suggested that treatment protocols should include approaches increasing body flexibility to increase body stability.

Amaç: İdrar yolu enfeksiyonu, çocuklarda en sık görülen bakteriyel enfeksiyonlardan biridir. Ampirik antibiyotik seçimi hastanın özelliklerine ve bölgesel antibiyotik dirençlerine göre değişir. Uygunsuz, geniş spektrumlu antibiyotik kullanımının neden olduğu antibiyotik direnci günümüzde önemli sorunlardan biridir. Bu çalışmanın amacı, akut piyelonefrite neden olan mikroorganizmaların ve bunların antibiyotik direnç ve duyarlılıklarının 5 yıl ara ile iki zamanlı dönemde karşılaştırılmasıdır.Yöntem: Akut piyelonefritli çocukların klinik özellikleri, tedavi modalitesi, idrar kültür antibiyogramlarında mikroorganizma türleri ve antibiyotik dirençleri, iki zaman dilimi arasında karşılaştırıldı.Bulgular: Grup 1; 2012-2013 yılları arasında piyelonefrit nedeni ile yatırılarak tedavi edilen 86 çocuktan (yaş ortalaması 3,52±0,4 yıl, 32 erkek), grup 2; 2017-2018 yılları arasında tedavi edilen 72 çocuktan (yaş ortalaması 3,78±0,7 yıl, 25 erkek) oluşturuldu. E. coli her iki grupta en sık üreyen mikroorganizmaydı.Piyelonefrit tedavisi için en sık uygulanan antibiyotikler sırasıyla hem grup 1 hem Grup 2’de amikasin (%55 ve %51), seftriakson (%33 ve %37), gentamisin (%5 ve %2,2) olduğu belirlendi. Grup 1’deki çocukların %77’si profilaktik antibiyotik kullanırken, bu oran Grup 2’de %23 olup anlamlı olarak düşüktü (p=0,00).Grup 2’de ampisilin, sefepim, seftriakson dirençlerinde istatistiksel olarak anlamlı düşüş saptandı. Özellikle son yıllarda sorun olan seftriakson direncinin %60’tan % 37’ye gerilediği izlendi.Sonuç: Bu çalışmada, yıllar arasında başta seftriakson olmak üzere birçok antibiyotik direnç oranlarında düşüş olduğu gözlenmiştir. Bu sonucun nedenlerinin piyelonefritli çocuklarda ampirik tedavide seftriakson tedavisinden ziyade aminoglikozidlerin daha sık tercih edilmesinin, profilaksi tedavisinin seçili olgularda kısıtlı şekilde verilmesinin ve profilakside sefalosporinlerin kullanılmamasının olduğunu düşünmekteyiz. Akılcı ampirik antibiyotik seçiminin idrar yolu enfeksiyonlarında direnç gelişimini de engelleyeceğini düşünmekteyiz.

Background/aim: To adapt the Sunnybrook facial grading system (SFGS) into Turkish and perform validation and reliability studieson the Turkish version.Materials and Methods: The original English version of the SFGS was translated into Turkish by performing a linguistic validity studybased on international standards. The evaluators comprised 6 physicians. Evaluations were performed twice independently using thevideo recordings of 65 facial palsy patients. Synchronously, the House-Brackman facial grading system (HBFGS) was filled out to displayconcurrent validity. The intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) and Cronbach’s alpha was used for the examination of the inter- andintra-rater reliability. As another indication of reliability, the generalizability (G) was also examined.Results: The ICC for the inter-rater reliability for resting symmetry, symmetry of voluntary movement, synkinesis, and the compositescore, which are 4 components of the SFGS, were determined, respectively, as 0.822, 0.956, 0.606, and 0.957 for the first evaluation, and0.805, 0.965, 0.584, and 0.965 for the second evaluation. For the intra-rater reliability, the ICC were determined as 0.842, 0.956, 0.794,and 0.937, while the Cronbach’s alpha coefficients were determined as 0.809, 0.956, 0.792, and 0.948, respectively. The G coefficient wasdetermined as G = 0.772. For the concurrent validity, a strong correlation was found between the SFGS and HBFGS scores.Conclusion: The present study adapted the SFGS into Turkish, and demonstrated that the adapted scale was valid and reliable. TheTurkish version can be used for the evaluation of facial palsy, the follow-up of treatment efficiency, and standardization in reportingoutcomes with the international literature.

MicroRNAs are non-protein coding RNAs that have recently been revealed to be effective in cancer biogenesis which effect posttranscriptional gene modification. The incidence of childhood hematologic cancers is increasing. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the relationship between miRNA expression and its prognosis in childhood leukemias. Twenty-one patients and 5 healthy controlsubjects were included in the study. Out of 26 subjects, 15 were patients diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), 6 werepatients diagnosed with acute myeloblastic leukemia (AML) and 5 were healthy control subjects. Peripheral venous samples were collected from the patients before and 1 month after chemotherapy and their miRNA analyses were performed. Decreased expressionsof let-7b, miR-31, miR-128-1, miR-218, miR-331, miR-372, miR-375, miR-422, miR-451 and miR-520 were found in patients withAL compared to the healthy control subjects. While the expression of miR-375 decreased in patients with ALL, the expressions ofmiR-21, miR-222, miR-30, miR-145, miR-146a and miR-155 increased. While the expression of miR-155 increased in patients withAML, the expressions of miR-10, miR-23, miR-218, miR-422 and miR-451 decreased. It was also found that while the expressionsof miR-204,miR-7,miR-10, miR-30, miR-155, miR-192, miR-422, miR-451,miR-520, miR-548, miR-375, miR-1, miR-23 and miR146a increased in patients with leukemia after the treatment, the expressions of let-7b and miR-132 decreased. A positive correlationwas found between leukocyte count of patients with leukemia before the treatment and the expressions of miR-128-1 and miR-331among miRNAs that changed after the treatment. MiRNAs play role in the pathogenesis, treatment response, relapse and prognosisof hematologic malignancies.

Introduction: Bronchoscopic volume reduction treatments are among the important alternatives for selected emphysema patients with a dyspneic cour-se despite optimal medical treatment. Our aim was to carry out a retrospecti-ve scan of the data for COPD patients subject to coil treatment at our center for assessing whether coil procedure has an impact on the respiratory symptom and pulmonary function tests in COPD patients.Materials and Methods: The data of 41 patients with severe emphysema and treated with coils between 2017-2020 were evaluated retrospectively. Cardiopulmonary rehabilitation programs were completed for all patients prior to the procedure and they were assessed with pulmonary function test (PFT), diffusing capacity for carbonmonoxide test (DLCO), body plethysmography, 6-minute walk test, ventilation/perfusion scintigraphy, St. George’s Respiratory Questionnaire (SGRQ). Data acquired prior to the procedure and 3rd month control data after the procedure were recorded and SGRQ was app-lied via face-to-face interviews during the controls by doctors working on Pulmonary Diseases as was the case before the procedure.Results: SGRQ questionnaires of 32 patients were evaluated. Statistically significant changes were observed after the procedure in symptom, activity, impact score and total score which were calculated prior to the procedure. Pre and post procedure FEV1, FVC, FEV1/FVC, PEF, FEF25/75 parameters were used for the comparison made via SFT. Statistically significant changes were observed in FEV1, FVC, FEF25/75 when the pre and post-procedure SFT parameters of the 32 patients included in the study were compared.Conclusion: A statistically significant improvement was observed in the PFT parameters and quality of life questionnaires following the coil procedure which is a bronchoscopic volume reduction procedure.

Background/aim: The factors associated with fall-related self-efficacy should be addressed, especially in the elderly. The Modified FallsEfficacy Scale (MFES) is a simple instrument with good scaling properties and reliability. The aim of the present study was to determinethe reliability and the validity of the Turkish version of the MFES from the viewpoint of balance.Materials and methods: In this study, 164 participants aged >65 years were included. The use of walking aids and assistive devices,history and frequency of falls in the previous year, living environment, and exercise habits were noted. Balance and risk of falling wereassessed with the Berg Balance Scale (BBS). A forward-backward translation procedure was used for the Turkish version of the MFES.Results: None of the 14 items in the MFES were modified. The Turkish version of the MFES has excellent internal consistency (Cronbach’salpha, 0.978) and reliability (interclass correlation coefficient, 0.928–0.982), and its construct validity was supported by its ability todistinguish between the groups with respect to fall-risk factors and balance. According to the BBS scores, the high-fall-risk group hadlower MFES scores than the moderate- and low-fall-risk groups (χ2 = 34.153, P = 0.001).Conclusion: The Turkish version of the MFES is a sensitive instrument for evaluation of fall-related confidence while carrying out indoor/outdoor activities. It also predicts falls, reduced physical activity, balance and mobility problems, and restricted social participation anddaily living activities.

Objective: Risk stratification continues to evolve in pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). Our aim was to further confirm the risk assessment strategy in our cohort and to determine the most reliable model.Methods: We enrolled incident patients with idiopathic PAH (IPAH), heritable, drug-induced, congenital heart disease (CHD), connective tissue diseases (CTD) subsets, and chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH) from January 2008 to February 2018. Data from the baseline and subsequent follow-ups within 1 year of diagnosis were included. An abbreviated risk assessment strategy was applied using the following variables: functional class (FC), 6-minute walk distance (6 MWD), N-terminal pro–brain natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) or BNP, right atrial (RA) area, pericardial effusion, the mean RA pressure, cardiac index, and mixed venous oxygen saturation. Three different methods were applied to categorize patients.Results: A total of 189 subjects (46±17 years, 23% male) were included. Sixty-one patients had died. The survival differed significantly between the risk groups both at diagnosis and during the follow-up. Patients with a low-risk profile had a better survival rate. An abbreviated risk assessment tool predicted mortality at early follow-up in the entire group and CHD, CTD subsets, and CTEPH, separately. An overall mortality among risk categories was significantly different according to each categorization method. The most reliable model comprised FC, 6 MWD, NT pro-BNP/ BNP, and the RA area at the follow-up.Conclusion: The abbreviated risk assessment tool may be valid for the PAH subsets and CTEPH. Echocardiographic variables do matter. A model comprising FC, 6 MWD, NT pro-BNP/BNP, and the RA area at the follow-up could be useful for better prognostication. (Anatol J Cardiol 2019; 21: 322-30)

Objectives: Lung cancer is the most common cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide. The use of tobacco and tobacco products is among the leading risk factors with proven association with lung cancer, although various environmental and dietary factors have been also implicated. Vitamin D deficiency has been identified as a poor prognosticfactor in advanced stage colon cancer and breast cancer. The aim of the present study was to compare 25-hydroxyvitamin D [25(OH)D] levels between patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) at the time of diagnosis and healthycontrols and to evaluate the differences in serum 25(OH)D levels across the subgroups and stages of NSCLC.Methods: A total of 462 patients with NSCLC who were followed and treated in three participating centers were compared retrospectively with and age- and sex-matched 462 healthy controls who underwent testing for serum calcium,lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), magnesium, phosphorus, creatinine, and vitamin D levels in the between January 2016and June 2018. The patients with NSCLC were further classified according to the histological subtype.Results: The mean age was 63.46±8.86 years. The patient group was composed of 58 females (12.6%) and 404 males(87.4%). Serum 25(OH)D, calcium, LDH, and magnesium levels were significantly different between the patient andthe control group (p=0.0001, p=0.0001, p=0.0001, p=0.0001, respectively). Among patients with NSCLC, serum 25(OH)D was significantly lower in patients with adenocarcinoma subtype than in patients with squamous-cell carcinomasubtype (p=0.001). There was a significant correlation between advanced stage with decreased serum 25(OH)D andincreased LDH levels (p=0.0001, p=0.0001, respectively).Conclusion: The study is the most extensive study in our region in terms of the number of participating patients.Demonstration of a difference in serum 25(OH)D levels between histological subtypes also contributes to the literature.

Introduction: The prevalence rates for hepatitis B virus (HBV) and hepatitis C virus (HCV) infections could be affected by the migration of people between countries. The detection of prevalence rates specifi c to individual countries, cities or also hospitals in certain intervals guides the decision-making process required in health policies. According to the data of the Disaster Relief and Emergency Management Agency, there has been a significant flow of immigrants into the province of Kahramanmaras fleeing the civil war in Syria. The aim of this study was to evaluate seroprevalence of HBsAg, anti-HBs, and anti-HCV in serum samples obtained from patients who were admitted to the study center in the last two years. Materials and Methods: The serum samples delivered from all units to our laboratory between January 2013 and October 2014 were tested for HBsAg, anti-HBs, and anti-HCV using an Advia Centaur XP (Siemens, Marburg, Germany) auto-analyzer. Results: A total of 46.356 tests were studied in the scope of this study. Mean ages of the patients tested for HBsAg, anti-HBs, and anti-HCV were 42.7 ± 20.3, 44.1 ± 20.2, and 43.8 ± 20.6 years, respectively. The prevalence of HBsAg between 2013 and 2014 was 5.1% in non-Syrian-origin patients and 3.6% in Syrian-origin patients. The prevalence of anti-HBs was 43.4% among non-Syrian-origin patients and 34.9% among Syrian-origin patients. The prevalence of anti-HCV was 1.2% among non-Syrian-origin patients and 1.8% in Syrian-origin patients. Conclusion: Development of more appropriate health policies is required for refugees since Turkey is allowing the flow of immigrants. Satisfying this need requires the collection of regional data. Thus, this study reported the seroprevalences of HBsAg, anti-HBs, and anti-HCV at our hospital and as far as can be achieved in the literature providing additional information regarding the seroprevalence of HBV and HCV among refugees, who have fled Syria with the escalation of the civil war.

Objective: Body mass index (BMI) and waist circumference(WC) as measures of obesity have some limitations. The aimof this study was to evaluate whether one measure couldpredict the presence of diastolic dysfunction (DD) more accurately than the other measures.Methods: A total of 91 obese patients without any other riskfactors for DD were prospectively enrolled. Echocardiographicexamination was performed. DD was defined and categorizedaccording to recent guidelines. The study participants were divided into 2 groups according to the presence of DD. Weight,height, and WC were measured; BMI and waist-to-hip ratio(WHR) were calculated; and a body shape index (ABSI) wascalculated as WC/(BMI2/3height1/2). The associations betweenABSI, BMI, WHR, and WC and the presence of DD were examined using logistic regression analyses. Analysis of covariance was used to examine the differences.Results: WC and BMI were significantly greater in subjectswith DD (p=0.049 and 0.051, respectively). A greater BMI,WC, and WHR increased the risk of the presence of DD (BMIDD: odds ratio [OR]=1.096, p=0.024; WC-DD: OR=1.059,p=0.007; WHR-DD: OR=2.363, p=0.007). After adjustment forage and sex, only BMI continued to be significantly associatedwith DD (p=0.031). ABSI was not associated with DD.Conclusion: After adjustment for age and sex, BMI was theonly predictor of DD in obesity. Despite its limitations, BMImay still be a potentially more accurate measure of DD compared with other obesity measures.

Purpose: The aim of this study is todetermine the relationships between posture of work, musculoskeletal systemdisorders, low back pain related disability, and health-related quality of life(HRQoL) of office workers. Material and Methods: Total of 213 office workers were included in thestudy. Office workers were analyzed by Ovako Working Posture Analysis System,Cornell Musculoskeletal System Discomfort Survey, Oswestry back pain disabilityquestionnaire (ODQ), Nottingham Health Profile (NHP). WOS: 000393291900011 OBJECTIVE: Red-cell distribution width (RDW) is a parameter routinely used for diagnosis of different anemia types. Recent studies have shown the RDW relationship with mortality in general population and patients with cardiovascular disease. However, the number of studies on RDW in chronic kidney disease (CKD) is insufficient. We evaluated the relationship between RDW and carotid intima media thickness (IMT), which is a predictor of atherosclerosis, in patients with CKD. MATERIAL and METHODS: 30 healthy controls, 30 patients with CKD, 37 hemodialysis patients were included. IMT was measured with ultrasonography. RESULTS: We identified statistically significant differences in CRP (p: 0.039), hemoglobin (p< 0.001), IMK (p< 0.001), RDW (p< 0.001), urea (p< 0.001), creatinine (p< 0.001), albumin (p< 0.001), uric acid (p< 0.001) and ferritin (p< 0.001) levels among three groups. In post hoc analysis, the IMK value was statistically significantly higher in the predialysis (p< 0.001) and hemodialysis group than healthy controls. IMK value was not statistically different in the hemodialysis group than the predialysis group (p: 0.988). The RDW value was higher in the predialysis group than controls with a trend to statistical significance (p: 0.067). RDW value showed positive correlation with IMK (r: 0.356 P: 0.012) and CRP (r: 0.361 P: 0.004). CONCLUSION: RDW is associated with inflammation and intima media thickness in patients with CKD.
