BackgroundIt is unclear what the causal relationship is between the gut microbiota and sepsis. Therefore, we employed Mendelian randomization (MR) to determine whether a causal link exists between the two.MethodsThis study used publicly available genome-wide association studies (GWAS) summary data of gut microbiota, sepsis, sepsis (critical care), and sepsis (28-day death in critical care) to perform a two-sample MR analysis. To ensure the robustness of the results, we also conducted a sensitivity analysis.ResultsFor sepsis susceptibility, inverse variance weighted (IVW) estimates revealed that Victivallales (OR = 0.86, 95% CI, 0.78–0.94, p = 0.0017) was protective against sepsis, while Lentisphaerae (OR = 0.89, 95% CI, 0.80–0.99), Gammaproteobacteria (OR = 1.37, 95% CI, 1.08–1.73), Clostridiaceae1 (OR = 1.21, 95% CI, 1.04–1.40), RuminococcaceaeUCG011 (OR = 1.10, 95% CI, 1.01–1.20), Dialister (OR = 0.85, 95% CI, 0.74–0.97), and Coprococcus2 (OR = 0.81, 95% CI, 0.69–0.94) presented a suggestive association with the development of sepsis (all p < 0.05). For sepsis (critical care), IVW estimates indicated that Lentisphaerae (OR = 0.70, 95% CI, 0.53–0.93), Victivallales (OR = 0.67, 95% CI, 0.50–0.91), Anaerostipes (OR = 0.49, 95% CI, 0.31–0.76), LachnospiraceaeUCG004 (OR = 0.51, 95% CI, 0.34–0.77), and Coprococcus1 (OR = 0.66, 95% CI, 0.44–0.99) showed a suggestive negative correlation with sepsis (critical care) (all p < 0.05). For sepsis (28-day death in critical care), IVW estimates suggested that four bacterial taxa had a normally significant negative correlation with the risk of sepsis-related death, including Victivallales (OR = 0.54, 95% CI, 0.30–0.95), Coprococcus2 (OR = 0.34, 95% CI, 0.14–0.83), Ruminiclostridium6 (OR = 0.43, 95% CI, 0.22–0.83), and Coprococcus1 (OR = 0.45, 95% CI, 0.21–0.97), while two bacterial taxa were normally significantly positively linked to the risk of sepsis-related death, namely, Mollicutes (OR = 2.03, 95% CI, 1.01–4.08) and Bacteroidales (OR = 2.65, 95% CI, 1.18–5.96) (all p < 0.05). The robustness of the above correlations was verified by additional sensitivity analyses.ConclusionThis MR research found that several gut microbiota taxa were causally linked to the risk of sepsis, sepsis in critical care, and sepsis-related 28-day mortality in critical care.

The severe anatomic deformities render acetabular reconstruction as one of the greatest challenges in total hip arthroplasty (THA) for patients with Crowe III/IV developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH). Thorough understanding of acetabular morphology and bone defect is the basis of acetabular reconstruction techniques. Researchers have proposed either true acetabulum position reconstruction or high hip center (HHC) position reconstruction. The former can obtain the optimal hip biomechanics, including bulk femoral head autograft, acetabular medial wall displacement osteotomy, and acetabular component medialization, while the latter is relatively easy for hip reduction, as it can avoid neurovascular lesions and obtain more bone coverage; however, it cannot achieve good hip biomechanics. Both techniques have their own advantages and disadvantages. Although there is no consensus on which approach is better, most researchers suggest the true acetabulum position reconstruction. Based on the various acetabular deformities in DDH patients, evaluation of acetabular morphology, bone defect, and bone stock using the 3D image and acetabular component simulation techniques, as well as the soft tissue tension around the hip joint, individualized acetabular reconstruction plans can be formulated and appropriate techniques can be selected to acquire desired clinical outcomes.

Background: Disrupted sleep and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) are bi-directionally linked and have been found to mutually reinforce each other on a day-to-day basis. However, most of the previous research has focused on subjective measures of sleep only. Objective: Here, we investigated the temporal relationship between sleep and PTSD symptoms using both subjective (sleep diary) and objective measures of sleep (actigraphy). Methods: Forty-one non-treatment seeking, trauma exposed young adults (age M = 24.68, SD = 8.15) with a range of PTSD symptom severities (PTSS, 0–53 on PCL-5) were recruited. Participants completed two surveys per day over four weeks to measure day-time PTSD symptoms (i.e. PTSS and number of intrusions) and night-time sleep subjectively, while wearing an actigraphy watch to measure sleep objectively. Results: Linear mixed models revealed that subjectively reported sleep disruptions were associated with elevated next-day PTSS and increasing number of intrusive memories both within and between participants. Similar results were found for daytime PTSD symptoms on night-time sleep. However, these associations were not found using objective sleep data. Exploratory moderator analyses including sex (male vs. female) found that these associations differed in strength between sexes but were generally in the same direction. Discussion: These results were in line with our hypothesis with regards to the sleep diary (subjective sleep), but not actigraphy (objective sleep). Several factors which have implications on both PTSD and sleep, such as the COVID-19 pandemic and/ or sleep-state misperception, may be potential reasons behind those discrepancies. However, this study had limited power and needs to be replicated in larger samples. Nonetheless, these results add to the current literature about the bi-directional relationship between sleep and PTSD and have clinical implications for treatment strategies.

Hybrid quantum systems based on magnons in magnetic materials have made significant progress in the past decade. They are built based on the couplings of magnons with microwave photons, optical photons, vibration phonons, and superconducting qubits. In particular, the interactions among magnons, microwave cavity photons, and vibration phonons form the system of cavity magnomechanics (CMM), which lies in the interdisciplinary field of cavity QED, magnonics, quantum optics, and quantum information. Here, we review the experimental and theoretical progress of this emerging field. We first introduce the underlying theories of the magnomechanical coupling, and then some representative classical phenomena that have been experimentally observed, including magnomechanically induced transparency, magnomechanical dynamical backaction, magnon-phonon cross-Kerr nonlinearity, etc. We also discuss a number of theoretical proposals, which show the potential of the CMM system for preparing different kinds of quantum states of magnons, phonons, and photons, and hybrid systems combining magnomechanics and optomechanics and relevant quantum protocols based on them. Finally, we summarize this review and provide an outlook for the future research directions in this field.

Abstract Background How the hip dysplasia affects the spinopelvic alignment in developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) patients is unclear, but it is an essential part for the management of this disease. This study aimed to investigate the coronal and sagittal spinopelvic alignment and the correlations between the spinopelvic parameters and the extent of hip dysplasia or the low back pain in unilateral DDH patients. Methods From September 2016 to March 2021, 22 unilateral patients were enrolled in the DDH group with an average age of 43.6 years and 20 recruited healthy volunteers were assigned to the control group with an average age of 41.4 years. The Cobb angle, seventh cervical vertebra plumbline–central sacral vertical line (C7PL–CSVL), third lumbar vertebra inclination angle (L3IA), pelvic incidence (PI), pelvic tilt (PT), sacral slope (SS), thoracic kyphosis (TK), thoracolumbar kyphosis (TLK) and lumbar lordosis (LL) were measured on the standing anteroposterior and lateral full-length standing spine radiographs. Additionally, the Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) and Japanese Orthopaedic Association Back Pain Evaluation Questionnaire (JOABPEQ) were used to assess the degree of low back pain. Results Cobb angle (8.68 ± 6.21° vs. 2.31 ± 0.12°), L3IA (4.80 ± 5.47° vs. 0.83 ± 0.51°), C7PL–CSVL (1.65 ± 1.57 cm vs. 0.48 ± 0.33 cm), PT (15.02 ± 9.55° vs. 9.99 ± 2.97°) and TLK (7.69 ± 6.66° vs. 3.54 ± 1.63°) were significantly larger in DDH patients, whereas LL (37.41 ± 17.17° vs. 48.79 ± 7.75°) was significantly smaller (P

Objective: To investigate the effects of Linggui Zhugan Decoction on mitochondrial and oxidative damage in rats with chronic heart failure after myocardial infarction and the related mechanisms.Methods: Chronic heart failure after myocardial infarction was established by coronary artery ligation. Heart failure rats were randomly divided into three groups: Model group (n = 11), Linggui Zhugan Decoction group (n = 12), and captopril group (n = 11). Rats whose coronary arteries were only threaded and not ligated were sham group (n = 11). Cardiac function, superoxide dismutase (SOD), malondialdehyde (MDA) contents, soluble growth-stimulating expression factor (ST2), and N-terminal B-type brain natriuretic peptide precursor (NTproBNP) levels were analyzed after treatment. Moreover, the level of mitochondrial membrane potential was detected by JC-1 staining, the ultrastructural of myocardial mitochondria were observed by transmission electron microscopy. The related signal pathway of silent information regulator factor 2-related enzyme 1 (SIRT1), adenylate activated protein kinase (AMPK), phosphorylated adenylate activated protein kinase (p-AMPK), and peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor γ coactivator 1α (PGC-1α) is an important pathway to regulate mitochondrial energy metabolism, and to initiate mitochondrial biogenesis. The expression level was detected by Western blot and reverse transcription to explore the mechanism of the decoction.Results: Compared with the model rats, Linggui Zhugan Decoction significantly improved cardiac function (p < 0.05), reduced MDA production (p < 0.01), increased SOD activity (p < 0.05), reduced ST-2(p < 0.01), and NT-proBNP(p < 0.05) levels, increased mitochondrial membrane potential, and improved mitochondria function. In addition, Linggui Zhugan Decoction upregulated the expression of SIRT1, p-AMPK, PGC-1α protein, and mRNA in cardiac myocytes.Conclusion: Linggui Zhugan Decoction can improve the cardiac function of heart failure rats by enhancing myocardial antioxidant capacity and protecting the mitochondrial function, the mechanism is related to activating SIRT1/AMPK/PGC-1α signaling pathway.

Glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) is a 30-amino acid hormone secreted by L cells in the distal ileum, colon, and pancreatic α cells, which participates in blood sugar regulation by promoting insulin release, reducing glucagon levels, delaying gastric emptying, increasing satiety, and reducing appetite. GLP-1 specifically binds to the glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor (GLP-1R) in the body, directly stimulating the secretion of insulin by pancreatic β-cells, promoting proliferation and differentiation, and inhibiting cell apoptosis, thereby exerting a glycemic lowering effect. The glycemic regulating effect of GLP-1 and its analogues has been well studied in human and murine models in the circumstance of many diseases. Recent studies found that GLP-1 is able to modulate innate immune response in a number of inflammatory diseases. In the present review, we summarize the research progression of GLP-1 and its analogues in immunomodulation and related signal pathways.

A protocol for realizing discrete-variable quantum teleportation in an optomagnonic system is provided. Using optical pulses, an arbitrary photonic qubit state encoded in orthogonal polarizations is transferred onto the joint state of a pair of magnonic oscillators in two macroscopic yttrium-iron-garnet (YIG) spheres that are placed in an optical interferometer. We further show that optomagnonic entanglement swapping can be realized in an extended dual-interferometer configuration with a joint Bell-state detection. Consequently, magnon Bell states are prepared. We analyze the effect of the residual thermal occupation of the magnon modes on the fidelity in both the teleportation and entanglement swapping protocols. The work may find applications in the study of macroscopic quantum states, quantum information processing, and hybrid quantum networks based on magnonics.

Low-grade and high-reserve scheelite, which is associated with calcite, has similar surface properties that cause difficulty in separation. In this study, sulfomethylated kraft lignin (SMKL) was used as a novel eco-friendly inhibitor for the flotation separation of scheelite and calcite. The flotation test results showed that 60 mg/L SMKL had a significant influence on depressing calcite flotation, while it had a slight effect on scheelite flotation. Furthermore, it enhanced the WO3 grade of the concentrate in the artificial mixed ore to 62.02% with a recovery rate of 80.37%. The contact angle and zeta potential showed that SMKL could effectively decrease the surface floatability of calcite and caused the negative shift of minerals’ surface potential. XPS and DFT calculations revealed that the sulfonic acid group of SMKL had an electron-donating ability and was easily adsorbed on the positively charged surface of calcite, which hindered the adsorption of sodium oleate on calcite. SMKL could separate calcium-bearing minerals with a high efficiency and selectivity, providing a new method for industrial production.

Complexing self-assembled DNA nanostructures with various functional guest species is the key to unlocking new and exciting biomedical applications. Cationic guest species not only induce magnesium-free DNA to self-assemble into defined structures but also endow the final complex nanomaterials with new properties. Herein, we propose a novel strategy that employs naturally occurring cationic amino acids to induce DNA self-assembly into defined nanostructures. Natural l-arginine and l-lysine can readily induce the assembly of tile-based DNA nanotubes and DNA origami sheets in a magnesium-free manner. The self-assembly processes are demonstrated to be pH- and concentration-dependent and are achieved at constant temperatures. Moreover, the assembled DNA/amino acid complex nanomaterials are stable at a physiological temperature of 37 °C. Substituting l-arginine with its D form enhances its serum stability. Further preliminary examination of this complex nanomaterial platform for biomedical applications indicates that DNA/amino acids exhibit distinct cellular uptake behaviors compared with their magnesium-assembled counterparts. The nanomaterial mainly clusters around the cell membrane and might be utilized to manipulate molecular events on the membrane. Our study suggests that the properties of DNA nanostructures can be tuned by complexing them with customized guest molecules for a designed application. The strategy proposed herein might be promising to advance the biomedical applications of DNA nanostructures.

High-mobility group box 1 (HMGB1) protein can impair phagocyte function by suppressing the macrophage-mediated clearance of apoptotic cells (ACs), thereby delaying inflammation resolution in the lungs and allowing the progression of acute lung injury (ALI) and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). However, the precise mechanism underlying this HMGB1-mediated inhibition of efferocytosis remains unknown. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of HMGB1 on macrophage-mediated efferocytosis. We discovered that HMGB1 prevented efferocytosis by bone marrow-derived macrophages (BMDMs) and suppressed the expression of Ras-related GTP-binding protein 43 (Rab43), a member of the Ras-associated binding (Rab) family. The downregulation of Rab43 expression resulted in impaired clearance of apoptotic thymocytes by BMDMs. Subsequent analysis of HMGB1-treated and Rab43-deficient BMDMs revealed the inhibited transport of cluster of differentiation 91 (CD91), a phagocyte recognition receptor, from the cytoplasm to the cell surface. Notably, Rab43 directly interacted with CD91 to mediate its intercellular trafficking. Furthermore, Rab43 knockout delayed the inflammation resolution and aggravated the lung tissue damage in mice with ALI. Therefore, our results provide evidence that HMGB1 impairs macrophage-mediated efferocytosis and delays inflammation resolution by suppressing the Rab43-regulated anterograde transport of CD91, suggesting that the restoration of Rab43 levels is a promising strategy for attenuating ALI and ARDS in humans.

The risk of cardiovascular diseases is closely related to diabetes. Macrovascular disease is the main cause of death and disability in patients with type 2 diabetes. In recent years, the glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonist (GLP-1RA), a new type of hypoglycemic drug, has been shown to regulate blood sugar levels, improve myocardial ischemia, regulate lipid metabolism, improve endothelial function, and exert a protective role in the cardiovascular system. This study reviewed the protective effects of GLP-1RA on the cardiovascular system.

Acute lung injury (ALI)/acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) is a condition with an imbalanced inflammatory response and delayed resolution of inflammation. Macrophage polarization plays an important role in inflammation and resolution. However, the mechanism of macrophage polarization in ALI/ARDS is not fully understood. We found that mice with lipopolysaccharide administration developed lung injury with the accumulation of extracellular cold-inducible RNA-binding protein (eCIRP) in the lungs. eCIRP, as a damage-associated molecular pattern (DAMP), inhibited M2 macrophage polarization, thereby tipping the balance toward inflammation rather than resolution. Anti-CIRP antibodies reversed such phenotypes. The levels of macrophage erythropoietin (EPO) receptor (EPOR) were reduced after eCIRP treatment. Myeloid-specific EPOR-deficient mice displayed restrained M2 macrophage polarization and impaired inflammation resolution. Mechanistically, eCIRP impaired Rab26, a member of Ras superfamilies of small G proteins, and reduced the transportation of surface EPOR, which resulted in macrophage polarization toward the M1 phenotype. Moreover, EPO treatment hardly promotes M2 polarization in Rab26 knockout (KO) macrophages through EPOR. Collectively, macrophage EPOR signaling is impaired by eCIRP through Rab26 during ALI/ARDS, leading to the restrained M2 macrophage polarization and delayed inflammation resolution. These findings identify a mechanism of persistent inflammation and a potential therapy during ALI/ARDS.

Foods of animal origin, as nutritional supplements, are usually consumed after cooking, but residues of amphenicols in fresh raw meat threaten human health. Therefore, this study was designed to evaluate the effects of boiling, deep-frying and microwave processing under different time conditions on the residue levels of amphenicols and metabolites in livestock and poultry meat. Antibiotic-free pork, beef, lamb and chicken samples were spiked with chloramphenicol (CAP), thiamphenicol (TAP), florfenicol (FF) and florfenicol amine (FFA) standard solutions and made into homogeneous meat blocks. These positive mock meat blocks were processed using three different cooking methods, and the analyses were performed by ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UHPLC-MS/MS). The results showed that cooking methods, time and food matrices were the main factors influencing the changes in amphenicols and metabolites residues in livestock and poultry meat. With the increase in cooking time, boiling processing was the most effective in reducing the four drug residues in livestock and poultry meat matrices, followed by deep-frying, while microwaving caused an increase in drug residue concentrations. Although boiling and frying processes are effective strategies to reduce amphenicols and metabolites residues in meat, it cannot be assumed that these residues can always decrease to levels that are safe for consumer health, especially when the drug residue concentrations in raw meat are above the maximum residue limits (MRLs). Therefore, it is not reliable to remove residues of amphenicols and metabolites from food by cooking. The solution to the food safety problem of veterinary drug residues must start from the breeding source and accelerate the implementation of antibiotic reduction, antibiotic substitution and antibiotic-free farming.

This paper focuses on the potential actuator failures of spacecraft in practical engineering applications. Aiming at the shortcomings and deficiencies in the existing attitude fault-tolerant control system design, combined with the current research status of attitude fault-tolerant control technology, we carry out high-precision, fast-convergent attitude tracking algorithms. Based on the adaptive nonsingular terminal sliding mode control theory, we design a kind of fixed-time convergence control method. This method solves the problems of actuator faults, actuator saturation, external disturbances, and inertia uncertainties. The control method includes control law design and controller design. The designed fixed-time adaptive nonsingular terminal sliding mode control law is applicable to the development of fixed-time fault-tolerant attitude tracking controller with multiple constraints. The designed controller considers the saturation of the actuator output torque so that the spacecraft can operate within the saturation magnitude without on-line fault estimation. Lyapunov stability analysis shows that under multiple constraints such as actuator saturation, external disturbances, and inertia uncertainties, the controller has fast convergence and has good fault tolerance to actuator fault. The numerical simulation shows that the controller has good performance and low-energy consumption in attitude tracking control.

As an emerging energy storage technology, Na-CO2 batteries with high energy density are drawing tremendous attention because of their advantages of combining cost-effective energy conversion and storage with CO2 clean recycle and utilization. Nevertheless, their commercial applications are impeded by unsatisfactory electrochemical performance including large overpotentials, poor rate capability, fast capacity deterioration, and inferior durability, which mainly results from the inefficient electrocatalysts of cathode materials. Therefore, novel structured cathode materials with efficient catalytic activity are highly desired. In this review, the latest advances of catalytic cathode materials for Na-CO2 batteries are summarized, with a special emphasis on the electrocatalysts for CO2 reduction and evolution, the formation and decomposition of discharge product, as well as their catalytic mechanism. Finally, an outlook is also proposed for the future development of Na-CO2 batteries.

Rab26 GTPase modulates the trafficking of cell surface receptors, such as G protein-coupled receptors including α2-adrenergic receptors in some cell types. However, the effect of Rab26 on β2-adrenergic receptor (β2-AR) trafficking or/and Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) expression in human pulmonary microvascular endothelial cells (HPMECs) is still unclear. Here, we investigated the role of Rab26 in regulating the expression of β2-ARs and TLR4 in HPMECs and the effect of these receptors’ imbalance on endothelial cell barrier function. The results showed that there was unbalance expression in these receptors, where β2-AR expression was remarkably reduced, and TLR4 was increased on the cell membrane after lipopolysaccharide (LPS) treatment. Furthermore, we found that Rab26 overexpression not only upregulated β2-ARs but also downregulated TLR4 expression on the cell membrane. Subsequently, the TLR4-related inflammatory response was greatly attenuated, and the hyperpermeability of HPMECs also was partially relived. Taken together, these data suggest that basal Rab26 maintains the balance between β2-ARs and TLR4 on the cell surface, and it might be a potential therapeutic target for diseases involving endothelial barrier dysfunction.

Here we provide raw and processed data and methods behind mTOR siRNA loaded DNA nanotubes (siRNA-DNA-NTs) in the growth of pulmonary arterial smooth muscle cells (PASMCs) under both normoxic and hypoxic condition, and also related to (You et al., Biomaterials, 2015, 67:137–150, [1]). The MTT analysis, Semi-quantitative RT-PCR data presented here were used to probe cytotoxicity of mTOR siRNA-DNA-NT complex in its TAE-Mg2+ buffer. siRNA-DNA-NTs have a lower cytotoxicity and higher transfection efficiency and can, based on inhibition of mTOR expression, decrease PASMCs growth both hypoxic and normal condition.

We have coated phase change materials (PCMs) on rough and flexible substrates to achieve multicolor changeable devices. The principle of the device is based on an earlier discovery that lights have strong interference effect in PCM films, leading to various colors by reflection. In this work, paper substrates are laminated by parylene layers to protect the device from water before coated with functional PCM films. The PCM-based color printing (PCP) on paper is not affected by rough surfaces and shows a similar color appearance as that on smooth surfaces. In particular, the color-printed device can be patterned by UV lithography to display a clear and tunable optical image, and it exhibits a low sensitivity to the angle of view. Such PCP has potential applications for low-cost, disposable, and flexible displays.

Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease is associated with obesity and insulin resistance. Factors that regulate the disposal of hepatic triglycerides contribute to the development of hepatic steatosis. G0/G1 switch gene 2 (G0S2) is a target of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors and plays an important role in regulating lipolysis in adipocytes. Therefore, we investigated whether G0S2 plays a role in hepatic lipid metabolism. Adenovirus-mediated expression of G0S2 (Ad-G0S2) potently induced fatty liver in mice. The liver mass of Ad-G0S2-infected mice was markedly increased with excess triglyceride content compared to the control mice. G0S2 did not change cellular cholesterol levels in hepatocytes. G0S2 was found to be co-localized with adipose triglyceride lipase at the surface of lipid droplets. Hepatic G0S2 overexpression resulted in an increase in plasma Low-density lipoprotein (LDL)/Very-Low-density (VLDL) lipoprotein cholesterol level. Plasma High-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol and ketone body levels were slightly decreased in Ad-G0S2 injected mice. G0S2 also increased the accumulation of neutral lipids in cultured HepG2 and L02 cells. However, G0S2 overexpression in the liver significantly improved glucose tolerance in mice. Livers expressing G0S2 exhibited increased 6-(N-(7-nitrobenz-2-oxa-1-3-diazol-4-yl) amino)-6-deoxyglucose uptake compared with livers transfected with control adenovirus. Taken together, our results provide evidence supporting an important role for G0S2 as a regulator of triglyceride content in the liver and suggest that G0S2 may be a molecular target for the treatment of insulin resistance and other obesity-related metabolic disorders.

Modern studies have shown that neuroendocrine disorders caused by the dysfunction of the hypothalamic‐pituitary‐gonadal (HPG) axis are one of the important pathogenetic mechanisms of kidney‐yang‐deficiency‐syndrome (KYDS). The preventive effect of Gushudan on KYDS has been reported, but its regulatory mechanisms on the HPG axis have not been elucidated. In this study, we developed an integrated untargeted and targeted metabolomics analysis strategy to investigate the regulatory mechanism of Gushudan on the HPG axis in rats with KYDS. In untargeted metabolomics, we screened 14 potential biomarkers such as glycine, lysine, and glycerol that were significantly associated with the HPG axis. To explore the effect of changes in the levels of potential biomarkers on KYDS, all of them were quantified in targeted metabolomics. With the quantitative results, correlations between potential biomarkers and testosterone, a functional indicator of the HPG axis, were explored. The results showed that oxidative stress, inflammatory response, and energy depletion, induced by metabolic disorders in rats, were responsible for the decrease in testosterone levels. Gushudan improves metabolic disorders and restores testosterone levels, thus restoring HPG axis dysfunction. This finding elucidates the special metabolic characteristics of KYDS and the therapeutic mechanism of Gushudan from a new perspective. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
