Abstract Background Sooty mold (SM), caused by Cladosporium species, is a pervasive threat to tea plant health, affecting both canopy structure and crop yield. Despite its significance, understanding the complex interplay between defense genes and metabolites in tea plants across various SM-infected canopy layers remains limited. Our study employed hyperspectral imaging, transcriptomic profiling, and metabolomic analysis to decipher the intricate mechanisms underlying the tea plant’s response to SM infection. Results Our hyperspectral imaging identified three critical wavelengths (552, 673, and 800 nm) inflection points associated with varying degrees of SM infection. This non-invasive method allows for the precise assessment of disease progression. Concurrently, transcriptome analysis revealed a wealth of differentially expressed genes (DEGs) enriched in metabolic pathways, secondary metabolite biosynthesis, and plant-pathogen interactions. Cluster analysis highlighted an intensified immune response in A2 and A3 samples. A comprehensive metabolomic profile identified 733 co-changed metabolites in SM-infected leaves, with alcohols, lipids (free fatty acids), hydrocarbons, and amino acids significantly accumulating in A1, while flavonoids were predominantly upregulated in A2 and A3. Weighted Gene Co-Expression Network Analysis (WGCNA) uncovered five hub genes (Dormancy-associated protein, Serine/threonine-protein phosphatase, ABC transporter, and some uncharacterized proteins) and two hub metabolites (D-Mannitol and 17-Hydroxylinolenic Acid) that exhibit significant relationships with DEGs and metabolites. Further co-expression analysis indicated that tea plants mainly employed genes and metabolites related to the biosynthesis of secondary metabolites, plant hormone signal transduction, and plant-pathogen interaction to combat SM. Conclusion This study establishes a foundation for understanding the immune mechanisms of tea plants across different canopy layers in response to SM infection. It not only sheds light on the complex defense strategies employed by tea plants but also identifies candidate genes and metabolites crucial for enhancing tea plant breeding and resistance to SM.

Abstract With the increasing demand for fresh food markets, refrigerated transportation has become an essential component of logistics operations. Currently, fresh food transportation frequently faces issues of high energy consumption and high costs, which are inconsistent with the development needs of the modern logistics industry. This paper addresses the optimization problem of multi-vehicle type fresh food distribution under time-varying conditions. It comprehensively considers the changes in road congestion at different times and the quality degradation characteristics of fresh goods during distribution. The objectives include transportation cost, dual carbon cost, and damage cost, subject to constraints such as delivery time windows and vehicle capacity. A piecewise function is used to depict vehicle speeds, proposing a dynamic urban fresh food logistics vehicle routing optimization method. Given the NP-hard nature of the problem, a hybrid Tabu Search (TS) and Genetic Algorithm (GA) approach is designed to compute an optimal solution. Comparison with TS and GA algorithm results shows that the TS-GA algorithm provides the best optimization efficiency and effectiveness for solving large-scale distribution problems. The results indicate that using the TS-GA algorithm to optimize a distribution network with one distribution center and 30 delivery points resulted in a total cost of CNY 12,934.02 and a convergence time of 16.3 s. For problems involving multiple vehicle types and multiple delivery points, the TS-GA algorithm reduces the overall cost by 2.94–7.68% compared to traditional genetic algorithms, demonstrating superior performance in addressing multi-vehicle, multi-point delivery challenges.

Abstract With the advancement of modern UAV technology, UAVs have become integral to creating traffic management monitoring systems. Additionally, UAV-based traffic monitoring systems can predict traffic flow by integrating machine learning methods. Specifically, traffic flow data contains both spatial and temporal information, which can be effectively processed by graph neural networks (GNNs). However, GNNs often face the challenge of oversmoothing, which hinders their ability to capture complex structures in the data. The Spatio-Temporal Graph Ordinary Differential Equations (STGODE) model addresses this issue by introducing Neural Ordinary Differential Equations (NODEs) to construct deeper GNNs. Despite this, STGODE relies on initially predefined semantic neighborhood matrices, which do not adapt well to the dynamic nature of traffic information. To overcome this limitation, we propose an evolutionary graph neural network for traffic prediction, capable of continuously updating the semantic adjacency matrix throughout the training process. This dynamic evolution of the semantic adjacency matrix allows it to adapt to the features and semantic relations of the current data, enhancing its ability to capture the complexity and variability of traffic patterns. We validate our approach through experiments on several real-world datasets, demonstrating that our method outperforms state-of-the-art benchmarks.

Abstract Many plants associate with endophytic microbes that improve root phosphorus (P) uptake. Understanding the interactions between roots and endophytes can enable efforts to improve P utilization. Here, we characterize the interactions between lateral roots of endophytes in a core collection of 50 rapeseed (Brassica napus L.) genotypes with differing sensitivities to low P conditions. With the correlation analysis result between bacterial abundance and plant physiological indices of rapeseeds, and inoculation experiments on plates and soil, we identify one Flavobacterium strain (C2) that significantly alleviates the P deficiency phenotype of rapeseeds. The underlying mechanisms are explored by performing the weighted gene coexpression network analysis (WGCNA), and conducting genome-wide association studies (GWAS) using Flavobacterium abundance as a quantitative trait. Under P-limited conditions, C2 regulates fatty acid and lipid metabolic pathways. For example, C2 improves metabolism of linoleic acid, which mediates root suberin biosynthesis, and enhances P uptake efficiency. In addition, C2 suppresses root jasmonic acid biosynthesis, which depends on α-linolenic acid metabolism, improving C2 colonization and activating P uptake. This study demonstrates that adjusting the endophyte composition can modulate P uptake in B. napus plants, providing a basis for developing agricultural microbial agents.

Societal Impact Statement Understanding domestication's impact on crop root traits and interactions with soil microbiomes is vital for improving crop resilience and agricultural sustainability. Using this knowledge to enhance root systems, reduce chemical inputs, and adapt crops to environmental stress will help to increase global food production, promote eco‐friendly farming, and mitigate the effects of climate change. Additionally, identifying microorganisms specific to plant species may help in biodiversity conservation. Advancing scientific understanding and educating future generations on the intricate relationships between plants, soil, and microorganisms is integral to developing innovative, sustainable agricultural practices and improved food security. Summary Domestication and intensive management practices have significantly shaped characteristics of modern crops. However, our understanding of domestication's impact had mainly focused on aboveground plant traits, neglecting root and rhizospheric traits, as well as trait–trait interactions and root‐microbial interactions. To address this knowledge gap, we grew modern (Hordeum vulgare L. var. Barke) and wild barley (Hordeum spontaneum K. Koch var. spontaneum) in large rhizoboxes. We manipulated the soil microbiome by comparing disturbed (sterilized soil inoculum, DSM) versus non‐disturbed (non‐sterilized inoculum, NSM) microbiome. Results showed that modern barley grew faster and increased organic‐carbon exudation (OCEXU) compared to wild barley. Both barley species exhibited accelerated root growth and enhanced OCEXU under DSM, indicating their ability to partially compensate and exploit the soil resources independently of microbes if need be. Plant trait network analysis revealed that modern barley had a denser, larger, and less modular network of microbes than wild barley indicating domestication's impact on trait–trait coordination. In addition, the relative abundance of bacteria did not vary between wild and modern barley rhizospheres; however, species‐specific unique bacteria were identified, with stronger effects under DSM. Overall, our findings highlight domestication‐driven shifts in root traits, trait coordination, and their modulation by the soil microbiome.

Recently, memristors have garnered widespread attention as neuromorphic devices that can simulate synaptic behavior, holding promise for future commercial applications in neuromorphic computing. In this paper, we present a memristor with an Au/Bi3.2La0.8Ti3O12 (BLTO)/ITO structure, demonstrating a switching ratio of nearly 103 over a duration of 104 s. It successfully simulates a range of synaptic behaviors, including long-term potentiation and depression, paired-pulse facilitation, spike-timing-dependent plasticity, spike-rate-dependent plasticity etc. Interestingly, we also employ it to simulate pain threshold, sensitization, and desensitization behaviors of pain-perceptual nociceptor (PPN). Lastly, by introducing memristor differential pairs (1T1R-1T1R), we train a neural network, effectively simplifying the learning process, reducing training time, and achieving a handwriting digit recognition accuracy of up to 97.19 %. Overall, the proposed device holds immense potential in the field of neuromorphic computing, offering possibilities for the next generation of high-performance neuromorphic computing chips.

Abstract Metasurface solar absorber serves as a kind of important component for green energy devices to convert solar electromagnetic waves into thermal energy. In this work, we design a new solar light absorber configuration that incorporates the titanium nitride substrate, aluminum oxide layer, titanium nitride layer, and the topmost refractory nanostructures. The metasurface absorber based on this configuration can achieve an average spectral absorption of over 91% and a total solar radiation absorption of 91.5% at ultra-wide wavelengths of 300–2500 nm. It is discovered that the excellent performance of the proposed metasurface absorber is attributed to the synergistic effects of surface plasmonic effect and Fabry–Pérot (FP) cavity resonance by comprehensive analysis of the simulated field distributions. Furthermore, the effect of geometrical parameter of the proposed configuration on absorber performance is studied, indicating the proposed configuration possesses a large fabrication tolerance. Moreover, the proposed configuration is not sensitive to the polarization direction and the angle of incident light. It is also found that the use of other refractory metal materials and other shapes as the topmost absorbent nanostructures also have good results with this configuration. This work can offer a universal platform for constructing and guiding the design of refractory metasurface solar absorbers.

During the engineering structure's operation, the mechanical structure's performance and loading will change with time, so the parameter uncertainty and structural reliability will also have dynamic characteristics. The time-varying reliability analysis method can more accurately evaluate structural reliability by fully using this dynamic uncertainty. However, the time-varying reliability analysis was mainly based on the spanning rate method, which was complex and difficult to obtain the final result. Therefore, this study proposed an enhanced dung beetle optimization (EDBO) assisted time-varying reliability analysis method based on the adaptive Kriging model. With the help of the adaptive Kriging model and the EDBO optimization algorithm, the efficiency of the time-varying reliability analysis method was improved. At the same time, to prevent prematurely falling into the local search trap, the method improved the uniformity of the sample by initializing the sample through improved tent chaotic mapping (ITCM). Next, the Gaussian random walk strategy was used to search the updated position, which further improved the accuracy of the reliability analysis results. Finally, the accuracy and effectiveness of the proposed time-varying reliability analysis method were verified by four mechanical structure model examples. From the calculation results, it can be seen that with the help of the new DBO optimization algorithm, the relative error of the proposed reliability analysis results was about 20%~30% lower than that of the traditional reliability analysis method. What's more, the calculation efficiency was higher than that of other reliability analysis methods.

Abstract Heavy metal pollution causes severe abiotic stress in cereal crops around the world. This study investigated the effects of different concentrations (0, 100, 200, and 300 mg·kg–1) of nickel, lead, and copper stress on the growth and biochemical responses of Aegilops tauschii seedlings, to provide a reference for research on the mechanism of invasion and screening potential sources of wheat tolerance genes. The results showed that nickel, lead, and copper stress caused a significant decrease in the contents of chlorophyll a, chlorophyll b, and chlorophyll (a + b) in A. tauschii, thereby inhibiting photosynthesis to different degrees and hindering seedling growth, which was reflected in significant reductions in plant height and root length, with the most notable effect observed under stress by 300 mg·kg–1 lead. As the concentration of heavy metals increased, the activities of antioxidant enzymes (SOD, POD, and APX), non-enzymatic antioxidants (GSH and AsA), and the contents of osmotic regulatory substances (proline and soluble proteins) in A. tauschii significantly increased. Additionally, heavy metal stress increased H2O2 and TBARS levels. However, when the nickel, lead, and copper concentrations reached 300 mg·kg–1, no significant differences were found in H2O2 or TBARS levels compared to those in the CK group. To summarize, A. tauschii can mitigate the accumulation of ROS and membrane lipid peroxidation caused by heavy metal stress through self-regulation, thus exhibiting a certain degree of tolerance to stress caused by different concentrations of nickel, lead, and copper. Finally, the evaluation using the membership function method revealed that among the three heavy metals, A. tauschii exhibited the strongest adaptation to Cu, followed by Ni and Pb.

Abstract Rural livelihood transition towards non-agriculturalization, non-grainization and even anti-urbanization has become a thorny social problem that undermines farmland resources and worldwide food security. Based on a simulation survey, this study explored the risk preferences and the livelihood transition mechanisms of typical farmers in the hilly and mountainous region. The results indicated that: (1) 76.86% of rural households exhibited risk aversion tendencies, with 60.67% being highly risk-averse. The ranking of risk aversion among the three typical farmers is consistent with asset abundance, with non-agriculture oriented households > semi-farmer and semi-labour households > vocational farmer households. (2) The non-grainization of vocational farmer households is significantly and positively correlated with the family labour force, land management area, and housing assets, yet negatively correlated with risk preferences. Compared to traditional grain cultivation, non-grainization in the hilly and mountainous region possesses lower risks and higher profitability for vocational farmer households. (3) The total non-agriculturalization of semi-farmer and semi-labour households correlates negatively with land management area but positively with family income. (4) Anti-urbanization and returning hometowns for farming are still regarded as a livelihood fallback by the non-agriculture oriented households, but excessive gift expenditure has become a heavy burden in rural society. Therefore, practical and systematical countermeasures are proposed in this research to guide sustainable livelihood transition.

Abstract Target detection in autonomous driving tasks presents a complex and critical challenge due to the diversity of targets and the intricacy of the environment. To address this issue, this paper proposes an enhanced YOLOv8 model. Firstly, the original large target detection head is removed and replaced with a detection head tailored for small targets and high‐level semantic details. Secondly, an adaptive feature fusion method is proposed, where input feature maps are processed using dilated convolutions with different dilation rates, followed by adaptive feature fusion to generate adaptive weights. Finally, an improved attention mechanism is incorporated to enhance the model's focus on target regions. Additionally, the impact of Group Shuffle Convolution (GSConv) on the model's detection speed is investigated. Validated on two public datasets, the model achieves a mean Average Precision (mAP) of 53.7% and 53.5%. Although introducing GSConv results in a slight decrease in mAP, it significantly improves frames per second. These findings underscore the effectiveness of the proposed model in autonomous driving tasks.

While Ginsenoside Re has been shown to protect the central nervous system, reports of its effects on memory in the model of scopolamine-induced memory impairment are rare. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of Ginsenoside Re on scopolamine (SCOP)-induced memory damage and the mechanism of action. Male ICR mice were treated with SCOP (3 mg/kg) for 7 days and with or without Ginsenoside Re for 14 days. As evidenced by behavioral studies (escape latency and cross platform position), brain tissue morphology, and oxidative stress indicators after Ginsenoside Re treatment, the memory damage caused by SCOP was significantly ameliorated. Further mechanism research indicated that Ginsenoside Re inhibited cell apoptosis by regulating the PI3K/Akt/Nrf2 pathway, thereby exerting a cognitive impairment improvement effect. This research suggests that Ginsenoside Re could protect against SCOP-induced memory defects possibly through inhibiting oxidative stress and cell apoptosis.

Abstract Esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) is a common fatal malignant tumor of the digestive tract; however, its pathogenic mechanism is unknown and lacks specific molecular diagnosis and treatment. Therefore, it is particularly important to identify new tumor biomarkers to enhance the early diagnosis and molecular-targeted therapy of ESCC. Here, we found that the E3 ubiquitin ligase Tripartitemotif-containing33 (TRIM33) is highly expressed in ESCC tissues and cell lines, and is associated with adverse clinical outcomes. We determined that TRIM33 drives aerobic glycolysis to promote tumor growth in vivo and in vitro. In terms of mechanism, TRIM33 binds to p53 to inhibit its stability and promote the expression of downstream glycolysis target genes GLUT1, HK2, PKM2, and LDHA. In addition, TRIM33 promotes the polyubiquitination of P53 K48-linked and proteasome degradation. Further studies have shown that the K351 site of P53 is the key site mediating the ubiquitination of P53 K48-linked to promote aerobic glycolysis in ESCC and tumor cell growth. Our results reveal that the TRIM33-P53 signal axis regulates glycolysis during ESCC and may provide a new perspective for the diagnosis and treatment of ESCC.

Abstract This study aimed to investigate the role of cluster of differentiation 276 (CD276) in evaluating the prognosis of clear cell renal carcinoma (ccRCC) and to build a nomogram for predicting ccRCC progression post‐surgery. Using data downloaded from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database, we constructed a Kaplan–Meier (KM) curve depicting the relationship between CD276 expression levels and the progression‐free interval (PFI) in 539 ccRCC cases. We further validated this by plotting a KM curve of the relationship between CD276 expression levels and PFI in 116 ccRCC patients from our hospital. Using clinical data collected from 116 patients, we identified independent risk factors affecting postoperative PFI in patients with ccRCC through univariate and multivariate COX analyses and created a nomogram for visual representation. Abstract Objective To compare the clinical and radiographic outcomes of single-segment posterior decompression combined with two different non-fusion dynamic stabilization systems, Isobar EVO and Isobar TTL, in the context of facet joint degeneration and segmental mobility. Method A retrospective study was conducted on 47 patients who underwent single-segment surgery at the L4/5 level using either the Isobar EVO (n = 23) or Isobar TTL (n = 24) systems. We assessed facet joint degeneration on both sides of the fixed (L3/4, L4/5) and superior adjacent (L2/3) segments using the Fujiwara MRI grading system. Clinical outcomes were evaluated using the Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) and visual analog scale (VAS) for back and leg pain at baseline, 12 months, and 24 months postoperatively. Result Both groups exhibited significant facet joint degeneration at the fixed segments (L3/4 and L4/5) at 24 months. The TTL group also showed significant degeneration at the superior adjacent segment (L2/3), whereas the EVO group did not. Restoration of lumbar lordosis was significantly better in the EVO group. Pain and disability scores improved more in the EVO group than in the TTL group at both 12 and 24 months postoperatively. Conclusion The Isobar EVO system, with its enhanced mobility, may delay facet joint degeneration in the superior adjacent segment compared to the Isobar TTL system. However, both systems result in degeneration at the fixed segment, indicating a need for further improvements to mimic the natural biomechanics of the spine more closely.

Abstract The segmentation accuracy of the lung images is affected by the occlusion of the front background objects. To address this problem, we propose a full-scale lung image segmentation algorithm based on hybrid skip connection and attention mechanism (HAFS). The algorithm uses yolov8 as the underlying network and enhancement of multi-layer feature fusion by incorporating dense and sparse skip connections into the network structure, and increased weighting of important features through attention gates. Finally the proposed algorithm was applied to the lung datasets Montgomery County chest X-ray and Shenzhen chest X-ray. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm improves the precision, recall, pixel accuracy, Dice, mIoU, mAP and GFLOPs metrics compared to the comparison algorithms, which proves the advancement and effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

Abstract Fibroblast growth factor 21 (FGF21) is essential for modulating hepatic homeostasis, but the impact of FGF21 on liver graft injury remains uncertain. Here, we show that high FGF21 levels in liver graft and serum are associated with improved graft function and survival in liver transplantation (LT) recipients. FGF21 deficiency aggravates early graft injury and activates arachidonic acid metabolism and regional inflammation in male mouse models of hepatic ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury and orthotopic LT. Mechanistically, FGF21 deficiency results in abnormal activation of the arachidonate 15-lipoxygenase (ALOX15)/15-hydroxy eicosatetraenoic acid (15-HETE) pathway, which triggers a cascade of innate immunity-dominated pro-inflammatory responses in grafts. Notably, the modulating role of FGF21/ALOX15/15-HETE pathway is more significant in steatotic livers. In contrast, pharmacological administration of recombinant FGF21 effectively protects against hepatic I/R injury. Overall, our study reveals the regulatory mechanism of FGF21 and offers insights into its potential clinical application in early liver graft injury after LT.

Abstract Background Early dissemination to distant organs accounts for the dismal prognosis of patients with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). Chronic, dysregulated, persistent and unresolved inflammation provides a preferred tumor microenvironment (TME) for tumorigenesis, development, and metastasis. A better understanding of the key regulators that maintain inflammatory TME and the development of predictive biomarkers to identify patients who are most likely to benefit from specific inflammatory-targeted therapies is crucial for advancing personalized cancer treatment. Methods This study identified cell-specific expression of CALB2 in human PDAC through single-cell RNA sequencing analysis and assessed its clinicopathological correlations in tissue microarray using multi-color immunofluorescence. Co-culture systems containing cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) and patient-derived organoids (PDOs) in vitro and in vivo were employed to elucidate the effects of CALB2-activated CAFs on PDAC malignancy. Furthermore, CUT&RUN assays, luciferase reporter assays, RNA sequencing, and gain- or loss-of-function assays were used to unravel the molecular mechanisms of CALB2-mediated inflammatory reprogramming and metastasis. Additionally, immunocompetent KPC organoid allograft models were constructed to evaluate CALB2-induced immunosuppression and PDAC metastasis, as well as the efficacy of inflammation-targeted therapy. Results CALB2 was highly expressed both in CAFs and cancer cells and correlated with an unfavorable prognosis and immunosuppressive TME in PDAC patients. CALB2 collaborated with hypoxia to activate an inflammatory fibroblast phenotype, which promoted PDAC cell migration and PDO growth in vitro and in vivo. In turn, CALB2-activated CAFs upregulated CALB2 expression in cancer cells through IL6-STAT3 signaling-mediated direct transcription. In cancer cells, CALB2 further activated Ca2+-CXCL14 inflammatory axis to facilitate PDAC metastatic outgrowth and immunosuppression. Genetic or pharmaceutical inhibition of CXCL14 significantly suppressed CALB2-mediated metastatic colonization of PDAC cells in vivo and extended mouse survival. Conclusions These findings identify CALB2 as a key regulator of inflammatory reprogramming to promote PDAC metastatic progression. Combination therapy with αCXCL14 monoclonal antibody and gemcitabine emerges as a promising strategy to suppress distant metastasis and improve survival outcomes in PDAC with CALB2 overexpression.

Abstract Background Sarcopenia is associated with unfavourable long‐term survival in patients undergoing liver transplantation (LT) for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). However, the impact of myosteatosis and muscle loss on patient prognosis has not been investigated. Methods Seven hundred fifty‐six HCC patients who received LT at 3 transplant centres were included. Computed tomography (CT) images of recipients were collected to measure skeletal muscle index (SMI) and skeletal muscle radiodensity (SMRA). The impact of myosteatosis on the prognosis of sarcopenic and non‐sarcopenic patients was studied separately. Muscle status was evaluated based on the presence of sarcopenia and myosteatosis. The muscle loss of 342 males was calculated as the relative change of SMI between pre‐ and post‐LT evaluations. Cox regression models were used to identify predictors of overall survival (OS) and recurrence‐free survival (RFS). Results The study comprised 673 males and 83 females. The median follow‐up time was 31 months (interquartile range, 19–43 months). Prior to LT, 267 (39.7%) and 187 (27.8%) males were defined as sarcopenic (low‐SMI) and myosteatotic (low‐SMRA), respectively. For sarcopenic recipients, the presence of myosteatosis was followed by a 23.6% decrease in 5 year OS (P 14.2% was an independent risk factor for poor OS (HR, 2.286; 95% CI, 1.358–3.849; P = 0.002) and RFS (HR, 2.219; 95% CI, 1.418–3.471; P

Abstract This study aimed to increase the scale of oil‐based drilling cuttings (OBDCs) resource utilization in the ceramic industry. The sintering process and mechanism were explored based on the analysis of physicochemical properties, phase transitions, and microstructure. The results showed that (1) The main ceramic‐technological characteristics of the OBDC were determined, which belonged to high‐silica solid waste with a high Si–Al ratio and a low acid–base ratio of oxides. (2) The low meltability temperature of the OBDC could largely influence the determination of the sintering temperature range for ceramic products. (3) The chemical components OBDC provided were involved in the formation of molten phases, which could affect dimensional accuracy and mechanical properties. (4) Before 800°C, dolomite decomposed and reacted with SiO2 to form silicate, and then a new feldspar crystal appeared. After 1000°C, orthoclase completely melted into the molten phase, only two phases of quartz and diopside existed in the material until 1150°C. When the temperature was higher than 1350°C, the glass transition of the phase was basically intensified. Pogostemon cablin essential oil (PEO), extracted from P. cablin, has anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-stress properties, as well as the ability to improve gastrointestinal digestion. This study aims to evaluate the effects of PEO on the performance, rumen epithelial morphology, and barrier function in heat-stressed beef cattle. Thirty-six male Jingjiang cattle at 18 months old were randomly assigned into four groups and fed a diet containing PEO at 0 (control), 50, 100, or 150 mg/kg in the feed concentrate (n = 9). All experimental cattle were fed under high temperature and humidity in summer for 60 days. The results indicated that 50 mg/kg of PEO treatment enhanced the average daily gain of beef cattle compared with the control group (P = 0.032). All PEO treatments reduced the diamine oxidase activity (P = 0.004) and malondialdehyde content (P = 0.008) in serum. In addition, the content of 70 kDa heat shock protein in the 100 mg/kg group was increased, and the activity of glutathione peroxidase and total antioxidant capacity in both 100 mg/kg and 150 mg/kg groups were enhanced compared to the control group (P

Abstract Necrotizing fasciitis (NF) is a rare and life-threatening serious infectious disease, characterized by acute onset and rapid progress, leading to extensive necrosis of skin, soft tissue as well as fascia by a variety of aerobic and anaerobic bacteria, localized on external genitalia, scrotum, groin and perianal areas in males. There exist numerous common etiologies for NF, yet NF induced by malignant neoplasms is exceedingly rare. Several studies have reported that NF may be associated with tumor site (rectal/sigmoid colon cancer) and blood supply dysfunction caused by targeted therapy drugs (bevacizumab, aflibercept, ramucirumab). The perforation of colorectal cancer poses a unique risk factor for NF. However, in our two cases, the patient with rectal cancer received CapeOX (oxaliplatin + capecitabine) + bevacizumab + tislelizumab for 3 cycles without perforation but did develop NF. One month after debridement, the patient continued immunotherapy with tislelizumab alone for the fourth cycle and maintained for an additional 3 cycles without any recurrence of NF. Therefore, does the occurrence of NF correlate with the tumor site (rectum) and targeted immunotherapy? Another patient with hepatocellular carcinoma also developed NF after receiving 2 cycles of lenvatinib + sintilimab treatment. The third cycle of sintilimab immunotherapy was administered on the 13th day after operation, which was subsequently maintained for an additional 2 cycles without recurrence of NF. The absence of a direct correlation between hepatocellular carcinoma and rectal tumor location as well as immunotherapy, suggests that NF may be closely linked to targeted therapy.

Abstract Objectives To evaluate long-term renal graft prognosis and the role of rapamycin from a single-center in China over a 30-year follow-up. Methods This study enrolled a total of 654 patients who underwent kidney transplantation between 1989 and 2020. The basic characteristics of the included patients were collected. Graft survival was described and compared using Kaplan-Meier curves (K-M curves). Both continuous and categorical variables were included in a multivariate Cox proportional-hazards model. Patients were divided into rapamycin-based quadruple immunosuppression regimen group (rapa group, n = 41) and conventional tacrolimus-based triple immunosuppression regimen group (control group, n = 218). The indication biopsy results of the two groups were further reviewed to compare the incidence of rejection, acute rejection, and banff score. Results The overall 5, 10, 15, 20-year graft survival rate of our center is 87.5%, 62.4%, 46.4% and 20.9%, respectively. The median survival time after surgery is 14 years. Abstract Purpose Parastomal hernia (PH) is a frequent complication following radical cystectomy and ileal conduit. The purpose of this study was to summarize the clinical experience and technical characteristics of laparoscopic Sugarbaker repair of PH following radical cystectomy and ileal conduit. Methods We retrospectively evaluated all patients who underwent laparoscopic treatment of PH following radical cystectomy and ileal conduit at Huashan Hospital, Fudan University from May 2013 to December 2022. Results Thirty-five patients were included in the study. Median follow up was 32months (IQR, 25–38 months). Three patients presented with a recurrence (8.6%), with a median time to recurrence of 14 months. Out of the 35 patients, Thirty-two underwent totally laparoscopic repair using the Sugarbaker technique, Three patients required open surgery to repair the intestinal injury after laparoscopic exploration. One patient died 9 months post-surgery due to COVID-19. During the follow-up period, two patients developed a peristomal abscess, and one patient experienced partial intestinal obstruction 10 days after surgery. Conclusion Surgical management of PH following radical cystectomy and ileal conduit is challenging. The laparoscopic Sugarbaker technique for repairing PH following radical cystectomy and ileal conduit has low complication and recurrence rate.

Abstract Background Thyroid disorders(TD) poses a significant health threat to Americans due to its high incidence rate. Obesity, a common factor linked to thyroid disorders, has garnered increasing attention. While Body mass index (BMI) is a widely used obesity index, it fails to account for the distribution of muscle and fat in the body. Recently, tMFR has emerged as a crucial obesity index in clinical research, warranting further investigation into its association with TD. Objective Exploring the association between tMFR and thyroid disorders. Method A comprehensive survey and data analysis were conducted using the NHANES database to investigate the relationship between tMFR and the risk of TD. This study utilized multiple logistic regression, smooth curve fitting, and subgroup analysis across four periods from 2011 to 2018. Result A total of 11,912 subjects were included in the study, showing a prevalence of 7.14% for TD. The research indicated that tMFR had an inverse correlation with the risk of TD in a comprehensive model (OR = 0.90, 95% CI 0.82 to 1.00). When tMFR was divided into quartiles (Q1-Q4), individuals in the highest quartile had a 28% lower risk of TD than those in Q1 (OR = 0.72, 95% CI 0.57 to 0.91). Analysis using smoothed curve fitting demonstrated a nonlinear relationship between tMFR and TD risk, with the inflection point for tMFR saturation effect identified as 1.5. Subgroup analysis further confirmed the strong association between tMFR and TD risk. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis indicated that tMFR exhibited superior predictive ability for TD relative to BMI. Conclusion The study found a negative association between tMFR and the risk of TD; however, additional prospective studies are required to validate these findings.

Abstract Background Colorectal cancer is the third most common cancer and the second leading cause of cancer death. There are limited therapeutic options for the treatment of locally advanced or metastatic colorectal cancers which fail first-line chemotherapy. Phase I/II studies showed that the combined application of the raltitrexed and irinotecan has significant synergistic effect and acceptable toxicity. However, most of these previous studies have relatively small sample size. Methods This is a prospective open-label, single-arm, multi-center, Phase II trial. Brief inclusion criteria: patients were aged 18 to 75 years with locally advanced or metastatic colorectal cancer after failure of 5-FU and oxaliplatin therapy. Enrolled patients received raltitrexed (3 mg/m2, d1) and irinotecan (180 mg/m2, d1) each 21-day cycle until disease progression or unacceptable toxicity. The primary endpoint was progression-free survival, and the secondary endpoints were disease control rate, objective response rate, overall survival and safety. Results A total of 108 patients were enrolled between September 2016 and May 2020. The median age was 61 years, ECOG 1 score accounts for 67.6%, the rest were ECOG 0. A total of 502 cycles were completed, with an average of 4.6 cycles and a median of 4 cycles. 108 patients were evaluated, with an objective response rate of 17.6%, and disease control rate of 76.9%. The median follow-up time was 27 months (range:3.1–61.0 m) at data cut-off on March 2023. Median progression-free survival was 4.9 months (95% CI 4.1–5.7) and median overall survival was 13.1 months (95% CI 12.2–15.5). The most common adverse events that were elevated are alanine aminotransferase increased, aspartate aminotransferase increased, fatigue, diarrhoea, neutrocytopenia, thrombocytopenia, hypohemoglobin, and leukocytopenia. Most of the adverse events were Grade I/II, which were relieved after symptomatic treatment, and there were no treatment-related cardiotoxicities and deaths. Conclusions The combination of raltitrexed and irinotecan as second-line treatment for mCRC could be a reliable option after failure of standard 5-Fu-first-line chemotherapy in locally advanced or metastatic colorectal cancers, especially for patients with 5-FU intolerance (cardiac events or DPD deficiency patients). Abstract Multi-sequence magnetic resonance imaging is crucial in accurately identifying knee abnormalities but requires substantial expertise from radiologists to interpret. Here, we introduce a deep learning model incorporating co-plane attention across image sequences to classify knee abnormalities. To assess the effectiveness of our model, we collected the largest multi-sequence knee magnetic resonance imaging dataset involving the most comprehensive range of abnormalities, comprising 1748 subjects and 12 types of abnormalities. Our model achieved an overall area under the receiver operating characteristic curve score of 0.812. It achieved an average accuracy of 0.78, outperforming junior radiologists (accuracy 0.65) and remains competitive with senior radiologists (accuracy 0.80). Isothermal compression tests were conducted out on the Mg–9Li–3Al-1(La/Ce) (wt.%) alloy under different deformation parameter through a Gleeble-3500 thermal-mechanical simulator. The flow curves at high strain rates exhibit a ''serrated flow”, which is a dynamic strain aging behavior. R = 0.9253 and AARE = 7.64% quantified the accuracy of the constitutive equations, indicating that this equation has reliable predictive ability. The thermal processing maps indicated that the safe processing region is T = 537–623 K, ε˙ = 0.041–0.001 s−1. This alloy has excellent formability. When deformation is at T = 473 K, ε˙ = 1 s−1, there are more deformed grains in two phases, and broken β-Li grains distributed in chains along the RD. In addition, some α-Mg phases precipitated from the β-Li phase, distributed along the β-Li grain boundaries, and they were dominated by recrystallized grains with low dislocation density. High-density dislocation regions located both at the grain boundaries and inside the grains. When deformation is at T = 473 K, ε˙ = 0.01 s−1, all the deformed grains in two phases decreased with decreasing strain rate, and they transformed more into substructures. The high-density dislocation regions inside the grains gradually disappear. Additionally, the size of precipitated α-Mg phase increased slightly, which is still predominantly located at the grain boundaries. When deformation is at T = 623 K, ε˙ = 0.01 s−1, the degree of recrystallization increases significantly with increasing temperature. The high-density dislocation regions almost disappeared. Interestingly, large amounts of α-Mg grains precipitated inside the β-Li grains.

The sulfate process for bamboo pulp production encounters silicon interference during the pulping stage, necessitating desilication before the alkali recovery section. This study investigated the desilication of bamboo pulping black liquor (BPBL), demonstrating that silicon was removed effectively by adding Mg/Al compound desilication agent to the BPBL via burning at high temperature. The desilication extent can reach 84% when the desilication agent is added in the proportion of Mg/Al (magnesium sulfate and sodium metaluminate) in the ratio 1.25:0.75. Subsequently, less-silicon white mud (LSWM) can be prepared after black liquor (BL) combustion desilication. LSWM was compared with normal WM as a blank sample, and the morphology and physicochemical properties of two kinds of WM were characterized. X-ray diffractometry revealed that both types of WM are primarily composed of calcite crystalline CaCO3 and hydrated CaSiO3. Scanning electron microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and particle size analysis demonstrated the reduced content of CaSiO3 generated in the LSWM. This result indicated that the Mg/Al compound desilication agent removed the silicon from the green liquor (GL), thereby reducing the residual silicon in WM. This reduction is beneficial to the calcination recovery and comprehensive utilization of WM.

The natural bone structure exhibits a radial gradient with dense cortical bone externally and porous cancellous bone internally. However, previous studies proposing scaffold designs have predominantly focused on homogeneous porous structures. Moreover, no consensus exists on the optimal structure for gradient porous scaffolds. Our scaffold closely imitated the natural bone structure by incorporating a gradient of pillar diameters. Additionally, we introduced a inverse gradient structure and three uniform diameter pillar structures (400 μm, 600 μm, and 1000 μm) for comparative analysis. Mechanical testing revealed that the compressive strength and elastic modulus of the Ti6Al4V porous scaffolds gradually increased with an increase in pillar diameter. In vitro experiments demonstrated that both the biomimetic gradient and inverse gradient scaffolds promoted osteogenic differentiation, with higher ALP activity (alkaline phosphatase) and osteogenesis-related gene expression compared to the uniform pillar structure scaffolds. The in vivo experiments confirmed these results, highlighting the superior ability of the biomimetic gradient Ti6Al4V porous scaffold to induce new bone formation. Based on our findings, we suggest that the optimal porous structure should have fine-diameter pillars (approximately 400 μm) internally to enhance cell penetration, while coarse-diameter pillars (approximately 800 μm) should be used externally to increase the cell attachment area and enhance mechanical strength. Overall, our study contributes to the field of bone tissue engineering by providing a biomimetic scaffold design that closely imitates the structure of natural bone and promotes osteogenic activity.

Yaks (Bos grunniens) are the most economically important mammals on the Xizang Plateau, providing milk, meat and income for people. The molecule CaMKII is key to the cellular Ca2+ signalling pathway, which can regulate intracellular environmental homeostasis and bind to a variety of proteins to regulate the location, activity and function of proteins. Calcium as Ca2+ controls the maturation process of oocytes, maintains fertilisation and initiates embryonic development. In this study, immunohistochemistry was used to detect the location and expression of CaMKII at different stages of follicular development. The activator as Ca2+ at 0.20, 0.22 and 0.24 mM and the inhibitor KN-93 at 0.5, 1.0 and 1.5 μM were added to compare maturation rate of oocytes in vitro. Immunofluorescence staining analysed the antioxidant levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and glutathione (GSH) and the expression of CaMKII in the mature oocytes.The growth related genes c-fos, epidermal growth factors EGF and EGFR and apoptotic genes BAX, BCL-2, were detected in mature oocytes after 24 h of culture using a real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction. The results showed that CaMKII was widely distributed in follicular tissues. The oocyte maturation rate was the highest at 58.43 ± 3.37% when the culture temperature was 38.5 °C and 57.6% when the concentration of FBS was 15%, significantly higher than 55.6% at 10% and 53.8% at 20% (p

In gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), adipose tissue undergoes metabolic disturbances and chronic low-grade inflammation. Alternative polyadenylation (APA) is a post-transcriptional modification mechanism that generates mRNA with variable lengths of 3' untranslated regions (3'UTR), and it is associated with inflammation and metabolism. However, the role of APA in GDM adipose tissue has not been well characterized. In this study, we conducted transcriptomic and proteomic sequencing on subcutaneous and omental adipose tissues from both control and GDM patients. Using Dapars, a novel APA quantitative algorithm, we delineated the APA landscape of adipose tissue, revealing significant 3'UTR elongation of mRNAs in the GDM group. Omental adipose tissue exhibited a significant correlation between elongated 3'UTRs and reduced translation levels of genes related to metabolism and inflammation. Validation experiments in THP-1 derived macrophages (TDMs) demonstrated the impact of APA on translation levels by overexpressing long and short 3'UTR isoforms of a representative gene LRRC25. Additionally, LRRC25 was validated to suppress proinflammatory polarization in TDMs. Further exploration revealed two underexpressed APA trans-acting factors, CSTF3 and PPP1CB, in GDM omental adipose tissue. In conclusion, this study provides preliminary insights into the APA landscape of GDM adipose tissue. Reduced APA regulation in GDM omental adipose tissue may contribute to metabolic disorders and inflammation by downregulating gene translation levels. These findings advance our understanding of the molecular mechanisms underlying GDM-associated adipose tissue changes.

Abstract The current study delves into the macro-level driving forces behind collective action in contemporary China, advancing beyond the constraints of previous narrower perspectives by adopting an all-encompassing socio-ecological and cultural approach. Utilizing the CASM-China database and analyzing 2454 socio-ecological indicators, we scrutinize the incidence of conventional, disruptive, and violent collective actions, alongside 11 manually coded triggers. Furthermore, employing panel data spanning from 2010 to 2016 enhances the robustness of our predictor selection, while a principal component analysis reveals a four–factor structure. Significantly, the Modernization dimension (factor 1) predicts both conventional and violent collective actions, correlating with issues such as “education” and “homeowner/property”. The Secondary and Tertiary Industries dimension (factor 2) forecasts disruptive collective action, associated with “pension/welfare” problems. In contrast, the Primary Industry dimension (factor 3) shows a negative correlation with violent and disruptive collective actions, particularly affecting “medical dispute” issues. The Living Condition dimension (factor 4) positively correlates with conventional collective action with various social issues. These findings deepen our comprehension of the intricate interplay between socio-cultural and ecological factors and collective action in China, offering new pathways for future research.

Enhancing the piezoelectricity of CaBi4Ti4O15 (CBT) ceramics is crucial for improving their application potential in high-temperature piezoelectric devices. Here, we propose a strategy involving the introduction of larger Na/Bi ions at the A-site, effectively inhibiting the tilt of oxygen octahedra and flattening the potential energy profile. This flattening enhances the variation in polarization under external fields. Concurrently, substituting Nb/Mn at the B-site increases the deviation between positive and negative ionic centers, leading to stronger spontaneous polarization, while the induced defect dipoles restrict oxygen vacancy migration and increase the direct current resistivity (ρdc). The flattened potential energy profile and increased spontaneous polarization significantly enhance the overall performance of CBT ceramics, with the piezoelectric constant (d33) reaching 25 pC/N when the Curie temperature (TC) = 752 °C. Piezoresponse force microscopy (PFM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) revealed submicron-long rectangular domains and nanoscale domains in the modified composition, indicating a high density of domain walls. This study presents an effective approach for enhancing the piezoelectric properties of bismuth layered-structured ferroelectrics (BLSFs), thereby improving the application potential of BLSFs at high temperatures.

The malicious mining pool can sacrifice part of its revenue to employ the computing power of blockchain network. The employed computing power carries out the pool mining attacks on the attacked mining pool. To realize the win-win game between the malicious mining pool and the employee, the paper proposes an Employment Attack Pricing Algorithm (EAPA) of mining pools in blockchain based on game theory. In the EAPA, the paper uses mathematical formulas to express the revenue of malicious mining pools under the employment attack, the revenue increment of malicious mining pools, and the revenue of the employee. It establishes a game model between the malicious mining pool and the employee under the employment attack. Then, the paper proposes an optimal computing power price selection strategy of employment attack based on model derivation. In the strategy, the malicious mining pool analyzes the conditions for the employment attack, and uses the derivative method to find the optimal utilization value of computing power, employees analyze the conditions for accepting employment, and use the derivative method to find the optimal reward value of computing power. Finally, the strategy finds the optimal employment computing power price to realize Nash equilibrium between the malicious mining pool and the employee under the current computing power allocation. The simulation results show that the EAPA could find the employment computing power price that realizes the win-win game between the malicious mining pool and the employee. The EAPA also maximizes the unit computing power revenue of employment and the unit computing power revenue of honest mining in malicious mining pool at the same time. The EAPA outperforms the state-of-the-art methods such as SPSUCP, DPSACP, and FPSUCP.

Abstract The diagnosis of early prostate cancer depends on the accurate segmentation of prostate regions in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). However, this segmentation task is challenging due to the particularities of prostate MR images themselves and the limitations of existing methods. To address these issues, we propose a U-shaped encoder-decoder network MM-UNet based on Mamba and CNN for prostate segmentation in MR images. Specifically, we first proposed an adaptive feature fusion module based on channel attention guidance to achieve effective fusion between adjacent hierarchical features and suppress the interference of background noise. Secondly, we propose a global context-aware module based on Mamba, which has strong long-range modeling capabilities and linear complexity, to capture global context information in images. Finally, we propose a multi-scale anisotropic convolution module based on the principle of parallel multi-scale anisotropic convolution blocks and 3D convolution decomposition. Experimental results on two public prostate MR image segmentation datasets demonstrate that the proposed method outperforms competing models in terms of prostate segmentation performance and achieves state-of-the-art performance. In future work, we intend to enhance the model's robustness and extend its applicability to additional medical image segmentation tasks.

Abstract Background The relationship between gut microbiota and vertigo, specifically Benign Paroxysmal Vertigo (BPV) and Vertigo of Central (VC), remains underexplored. Aim and hypotheses This study aims to investigate the causal relationships between gut microbiota and two types of vertigo, BPV and VC. Additionally, the study seeks to explore the mediation effects of metabolic, inflammatory, and psychological factors on these relationships. We hypothesize that specific taxa of gut microbiota have a causal effect on the risk of developing BPV and VC. The mediation effects of HbA1c, obesity, major depression, and interleukin-18 levels significantly influence the relationships between gut microbiota and vertigo. Method Utilizing a bidirectional two-sample Mendelian randomization approach, this study investigated causal associations between gut microbiota and the two types of vertigo. A network MR assessed mediation effects of HbA1c, major depression, obesity, and interleukin-18 levels, with data sourced from several consortia, including MiBioGen. Results Distinct gut microbiota displayed varying influences on BPV and VC risks. A total of ten taxa affect BPV. Among these, two taxa have an odds ratio (OR) greater than 1, including one class, one order. Conversely, eight taxa have an OR less than 1, encompassing four families, three genera, and one order. The OR for these taxa ranges from 0.693 to 0.930, with p-values between 0.006 and 0.048. For VC, eight taxa were found to have an impact. Five of these taxa exhibit an OR greater than 1, including four genera and one phylum. The OR for these taxa ranges from 1.229 to 2.179, with p-values from 0.000 to 0.046. The remaining three taxa have an OR less than 1, comprising one family and two genera, with an OR range of 0.445 to 0.792 and p-values ranging from 0.013 to 0.050. The mediation analysis for BPV shows that major depression, obesity, and HbA1c are key mediators between specific taxa and BPV. Major depression mediates 28.77% of the effect of family Rhodospirillaceae on BPV. Obesity mediates 13.90% of the effect of class Lentisphaeria/order Victivallales. HbA1c mediates 11.79% of the effect of genus Bifidobacterium, 11.36% of family Bifidobacteriaceae/order Bifidobacteriales. For VC, interleukin-18 levels and major depression are significant mediators. Interleukin-18 levels mediate 6.56% of the effect of phylum Actinobacteria. Major depression mediates 6.51% of the effect of genus Alloprevotella. Conclusion The study highlights potential causal links between gut microbiota and vertigo, emphasizing metabolic and psychological mediators. These insights underscore the therapeutic potential of targeting gut health in vertigo management.

Abstract Electric vehicles are promoted as ‘clean’ technologies and offer promising reductions in transportation emissions. Nevertheless, their environmental benefits critically depend on the local electricity grid mix and the type of emission being considered. Here, we conduct a comparative life cycle assessment of the four dominant light-duty vehicle categories at both the global scale and in three representative countries: Norway, the US, and China. By analyzing different environmental indicators, particularly global warming potential and respiratory effects, and quantifying related parametric uncertainties, we reveal that the advantages of electric vehicles vary across these regions and across environmental impact types. While electric vehicles offer considerable decarbonization potential as the grid mix becomes cleaner, they might not mitigate other environmental impacts, such as increased respiratory effects on rural, low-income communities. Our results support stakeholders in identifying environmentally friendly vehicle and policy options while considering multiple factors, and emphasize the importance of tailored approaches over one-size-fits-all solutions in sustainable transportation.

As a kind of renewable and high oxygen content fuel, polyoxymethylene dimethyl ether (PODE) can be added in diesel to realize energy saving and emissions reduction. To evaluate the combustion and emission characteristics of a diesel engine fueled with diesel and diesel/PODE mixtures, exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) and main-pilot injection strategies with various injection timings were applied. PODE was blended with diesel by volume to form mixtures which were marked as D100 (pure diesel), D90P10 (90% diesel + 10% PODE), and D80P20 (80% diesel + 20% PODE). The results showed that the ignition delay (ID) and combustion duration (CD) of D80P20 were the shortest because of the highest cetane number (CN) and high oxygen content of PODE, indicating more concentrated heat release. At low and medium loads, D80P20 achieved the highest peak heat release ratio (PHRR) and peak combustion temperature (PCT) among the three fuels, and it was 14.3% and 3.6% higher than those of D100. PODE blending with diesel can significantly reduce particulate matter (PM) and D80P20 has the lowest PM emissions at all loads. Compared with D100, both PM and nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions of PODE blends decreased simultaneously with 20% EGR at all loads. With the increase of pilot-main interval, the ID and CD of all test fuels increased, while the NOx and PM emissions decreased. The conclusions of the present research provide a state of the application in light-duty engines fueled with diesel/PODE blends in future work.

In borehole monitoring for deep displacement, the abrupt characteristics of inclinometer curves are the key basis for identifying the sliding surface. Previous studies have summarized several types of inclinometer curve patterns that exhibit significant sliding surface signals, including “B” “D”and “r” types. For “D” type inclinometer curves, the convex point of the curve is typically used as the position of the sliding surface. However, this method is susceptible to the influence of observation points spacing and coordinate observation scales, which can result in an unclear definition of the sliding surface position and uncertain numerical values. To overcome these drawbacks and improve the accuracy of sliding surface identification in inclinometer curves, a generalized model of landslides composed of “sliding body” “sliding interval” and “immovable body” was developed based on the variation characteristics of the “D” type inclinometer curve. A mechanical strut model subjected to external loads was established based on the different flexural rigidity of the three members, and the deformation characteristics of soil at different depths during landslide movement were analyzed in depth. The study found that the sliding surface of “D” curve does not entirely penetrate, leading to continuous soil deformation along the depth direction without abrupt change. The demarcation point of the positive and negative bending moments in the mechanical model is a location where the horizontal displacement of deformation curve is the largest, which can reflect the real deformation characteristics of the landslide and the position of the sliding surface. By converted the accumulated soil displacement into relative displacement, the “D” type inclinometer curve is transformed into “S” type relative displacement-depth curve, and the inflection point of the “S” type curve is close to the position of the sliding surface. By extracting the average relative displacement of soil at different depths during the monitoring period and calculating the depth value of the inflection point in the “S” type segment by using the cubic spline interpolation method, the position of the sliding surface can be determined more accurately, which can greatly improve the reliability and accuracy of deep displacement monitoring and has significant practical value.

Abstract Intracranial aneurysm is the primary cause of nontraumatic subarachnoid hemorrhage. To assess aneurysm metabolism, we present a method of intra-operatively collecting blood samples from the aneurysm neck, as well as the proximal and distal responsible vessels, using microcatheters. Through these paired comparisons, we can eliminate the interpatient variation usually observed in plasma samples taken from the peripheral vein. We utilized 39 plasma samples from 13 intracranial patients to characterize the metabolite profiles using untargeted liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry. Our findings revealed that l-tyrosine is upregulated at relatively high levels at the aneurysm neck than the proximal and distal aneurysm, whereas phenylpyruvic acid, l-cystine, and l-ornithine are downregulated. Based on this, there was also a significant decrease in arginine within small aneurysm of the internal carotid artery. The 6-month follow-up indicated that patients who experienced good recovery had lower levels of biliverdin, bilirubin, and metabolites of coenzyme Q within the aneurysm. In conclusion, our investigation provides a comprehensive overview of plasma metabolites in patients with intracranial aneurysms, shedding light on potential pathogenetic mechanisms in unruptured intracranial aneurysms. Moreover, the study proposes innovative ideas for establishing postoperative follow-up timelines for flow diverter devices.

Abstract Background Chitinase-3 like-protein-1 (CHI3L1) is a member of the mammalian chitinase-like proteins and elevated serum CHI3L1 level has been proved to be associated with poor prognosis in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). This study aimed to investigate the relationship between serum CHI3L1 levels and body composition parameters in patients with HCC after liver transplantation (LT). Methods This retrospective study enrolled 200 patients after LT for HCC. Blood samples were collected and serum concentrations of CHI3L1 were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Computer tomography (CT) were used to estimate skeletal muscle and adipose tissue mass. Spearman’s rank correlation test was performed to assess associations between serum CHI3L1 levels and these body composition parameters. A Cox proportional-hazards regression model was performed to identify independent prognostic factors. Overall survival (OS) and recurrence-free survival (RFS) curves were constructed using the Kaplan-Meier method and compared by the log-rank test. Results Total 71 patients (35.5%) were diagnosed with myosteatosis according to skeletal muscle radiation attenuation (SMRA). The 5-year OS rates were 66.9% in non-myosteatosis group, significantly higher than 49.5% in myosteatosis group (p = 0.025), while the RFS of myosteatosis group (5-year RFS: 52.6%) or non-myosteatosis group (5-year RFS: 42.0%) shown no significant difference (p = 0.068). Abstract Peritoneal recurrence (PR) in gastric cancer after curative resection has poor prognosis. Therefore, we aimed to construct a nomogram to predict PR, and establish PR score for risk stratification to guide adjuvant chemotherapy. A total of 315 patients with gastric cancer after radical surgery were included, and randomly stratified into training group (n = 221) and validation group (n = 94). Univariate and multivariate analyses were used to determine predictive factors of PR. The nomogram was constructed to predict the risk of PR. We utilized the time-dependent area under the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves (AUCs), calibration curves, and decision curve analysis (DCA) to evaluate the performance of the nomogram. Multivariate analysis showed that tumor site, N stage, preoperative CEA, and postoperative CA199 were independent predictors of PR. A nomogram was constructed to predict PR based on these factors. The AUC value was 0.755 in the training group and 0.715 in the validation group. The calibration curves showed good agreement between prediction and observation in the training and validation groups. The decision curve analysis displayed a good net benefit of the nomogram. The novel PR score was developed and patients were stratified into the low-, medium-, and high -risk groups. For the high-risk group, postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy significantly improved patients' overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS). The establishment of nomogram facilitates the prediction of PR after radical gastrectomy, and a novel PR score may help guide adjuvant chemotherapy for gastric cancer.

Abstract Background Advanced pancreatic adenocarcinoma lacks effective treatment options, and systemic gemcitabine-based chemotherapy offers only marginal survival benefits at the cost of significant toxicities and adverse events. New therapeutic options with better drug availability are warranted. This study aims to evaluate the safety and efficacy of digital subtraction angiography (DSA)-guided pancreatic arterial infusion (PAI) versus intravenous chemotherapy (IVC) using the gemcitabine and oxaliplatin (GEMOX) regimen in unresectable locally advanced or metastatic pancreatic cancer (PC) patients. Materials and methods This study prospectively enrolled 51 eligible treatment-naive patients with unresectable PC to receive GEMOX treatment via PAI or IVC (1:1 ratio randomization) from December 2015 to December 2019. Cycles were repeated monthly, and each process consisted of two treatments administered bi-weekly. Overall survival (OS), progression-free survival (PFS), objective response rate (ORR), disease control rate (DCR), 1-year survival, 6-month survival, tumor-site subgroup survival, and incidences of adverse events were compared. Results The median OS of the PAI and IVC groups were 9.93 months and 10.07 months, respectively (p = 0.3049). The median PFS of the PAI and IVC groups were 5.07 months and 4.23 months (p = 0.1088). No significant differences were found in the ORR (11.54% vs. 4%, p = 0.6312), DCR (53.85% vs. 44%, p = 0.482), and 1-year OS rate (44% vs. 20.92%, p = 0.27) in PAI and IVC groups. The 6-month OS rate was significantly higher in the PAI group (100%) than in the IVC group (83.67%) (p = 0.0173). The median OS of patients in PAI group with pancreatic head and neck tumors were significantly higher than those of body and tail tumors (12.867 months vs. 9 months, p = 0.0214). The incidences of hematologic disorders, liver function disorders, and digestive disorders in the IVC group were higher than in the PAI group (p < 0.05). Conclusion GEMOX PAI therapy presented a higher 6-month OS rate and fewer adverse events than IVC in advanced pancreatic adenocarcinoma patients. Those with pancreatic head and neck tumors may yield a superior treatment outcome from PAI treatment. Trial registration number NCT02635971. Date of registration 21/12/2015.
