The long-term safety and effectiveness of once-daily tadalafil is crucial, but limited data are available in Chinese patients with erectile dysfunction (ED). In this post-marketing, multicenter, randomized, open-label trial with 2-year follow-up, 635 ED cases were randomized to receive daily oral tadalafil 2.5 mg or 5 mg for 3 months, of whom 580 continued once-daily tadalafil 5 mg for 21 months. Treatment-emergent adverse events in the 12-month and 24-month period were similar, with the most common being viral upper respiratory tract infection, upper respiratory tract infection, and headache. Significant improvement from baseline in the International Index of Erectile Function-Erectile Function (IIEF-EF) score was detected at month 12 (least squares mean [LSM] change: 7.9, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 7.5–8.4, P < 0.001) and was maintained to month 24 (LSM change: 8.6, 95% CI: 8.1–9.0, P < 0.001). The proportions of patients regaining normal erectile function (IIEF-EF score ≥26) were 43.7% and 48.0% at months 12 and 24, respectively. Global Assessment Questionnaire results showed improved erection function in 97.5% of patients and improved ability to engage in sexual activity in 95.9% of patients at month 12; these values were 96.1% and 95.0% at month 24, respectively. The quality of sexual life score based on the Sexual Life Quality Questionnaire (SLQQ) was increased by 52.2% at month 12 and by 55.3% at month 24 (both P < 0.001). The treatment satisfaction score determined by SLQQ (mean ± standard deviation) was 62.4 ± 21.0 at month 12 versus 65.9 ± 20.2 at month 24. Two-year daily application of tadalafil 5 mg in Chinese men with ED showed a favorable safety profile and durable improvement in sexual performance and satisfaction.

Abstract High-performance functional fibers play a critical role in various indispensable fields, including sensing, monitoring, and display. It is desirable yet challenging to develop conductive fibers with excellent mechanical properties for practical applications. Herein, inspired by the exquisite fascicle structure of skeletal muscle, we constructed a high-performance bacterial cellulose (BC)/carbon nanotube (CNT) conductive fiber through in situ biosynthesis and enhancement of structure and interaction. The biosynthesis strategy achieves the in situ entanglement of CNTs in the three-dimensional network of BC through the deposition of CNTs during the growth of BC. The structure enhancement through physical wet drawing and the interaction enhancement through chemical treatment facilitate orientation and bridging of components, respectively. Owing to the ingenious design, the obtained composite fibers integrate high strength (939 MPa), high stiffness (52.3 GPa), high fatigue resistance, and stable electrical performance, making them competitive for constructing fiber-based smart devices for practical applications.

Résumé Contexte L’épidémie de maladie à coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) a eu un impact étendu et profond sur la santé mentale des gens. Les facteurs associés aux symptômes mentaux chez les hommes diagnostiqués comme infertiles, une maladie étroitement liée aux conditions psychologiques, restent flous. L’objectif de cette étude est d’étudier les facteurs de risque associés aux symptômes mentaux chez les hommes chinois infertiles pendant la pandémie. Résultats Au total, 4 098 participants admissibles ont été recrutés dans cette étude transversale à l’échelle nationale, dont 2 034 (49,6%) présentaient une infertilité primaire et 2 064 (50,4%) une infertilité secondaire. La prévalence des problèmes de santé mentale était respectivement de 36,3 %, 39,6 % et 6,7 % pour l’anxiété, la dépression, et le stress postpandémique. La dysfonction sexuelle est associée à un risque plus élevé avec des odds ratios ajustés (OR) de 1,40 pour l’anxiété, 1,38 pour la dépression et 2,32 pour le stress. Les hommes recevant un traitement médicamenteux contre l’infertilité présentaient un risque plus élevé de symptômes d’anxiété (OR ajusté, 1,31) et de dépression (OR ajusté, 1,28), alors que ceux dont le traitement consistait à faire des inséminations intra-utérines présentaient un risque plus faible de symptômes d’anxiété (OR ajusté, 0,56) et de dépression (OR ajusté, 0,55). Conclusions La pandémie de COVID-19 a eu un impact psychologique important sur les hommes infertiles. Plusieurs populations psychologiquement vulnérables ont été identifiées, notamment les personnes souffrant de dysfonction sexuelle, les hommes recevant un traitement médicamenteux contre l’infertilité, et ceux subissant des mesures de contrôle de la COVID-19. Les résultats fournissent un profil complet de l’état de santé mentale des hommes Chinois infertiles pendant l’épidémie de COVID-19 et fournissent des stratégies potentielles d’intervention psychologique.

To investigate the factors affecting the sperm retrieval rate of microdissection testicular sperm extraction (micro-TESE) in patients with nonmosaic Klinefelter syndrome (KS), 64 patients with nonmosaic KS who underwent micro-TESE in the Center for Reproductive Medicine of Peking University Third Hospital (Beijing, China) between January 2016 and December 2017 were included in the study. Data on medical history, physical examination and laboratory examination results, and micro-TESE outcomes were collected. Patients were divided into two groups according to micro-TESE outcomes. The following factors were compared between the two groups by the Mann‒Whitney U test or Student's t-test based on the distribution (nonnormal or normal) of the factors: age, testicular size, follicle-stimulating hormone level, luteinizing hormone level, testosterone level, and anti-Müllerian hormone level. The overall success rate of sperm retrieval was 50.0%. Correlation analysis showed that testicular volume was positively correlated with testosterone level. Using a logistic regression model, age and anti-Müllerian hormone levels were found to be better predictors for the sperm retrieval rate than the other parameters.

Microdissection testicular sperm extraction (micro-TESE) is widely used to treat nonobstructive azoospermia. However, a good prediction model is required to anticipate a successful sperm retrieval rate before performing micro-TESE. This retrospective study analyzed the clinical records of 200 nonobstructive azoospermia patients between January 2021 and December 2021. The backward method was used to perform binary logistic regression analysis and identify factors that predicted a successful micro-TESE sperm retrieval. The prediction model was constructed using acquired regression coefficients, and its predictive performance was assessed using the receiver operating characteristic curve. In all, 67 patients (sperm retrieval rate: 33.5%) underwent successful micro-TESE. Follicle-stimulating hormone, anti-Müllerian hormone, and inhibin B levels varied significantly between patients who underwent successful and unsuccessful micro-TESE. Binary logistic regression analysis yielded the following six predictors: anti-Müllerian hormone (odds ratio [OR] = 0.902, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.821–0.990), inhibin B (OR = 1.012, 95% CI: 1.001–1.024), Klinefelter's syndrome (OR = 0.022, 95% CI: 0.002–0.243), Y chromosome microdeletion (OR = 0.050, 95% CI: 0.005–0.504), cryptorchidism with orchiopexy (OR = 0.085, 95% CI: 0.008–0.929), and idiopathic nonobstructive azoospermia (OR = 0.031, 95% CI: 0.003–0.277). The prediction model had an area under the curve of 0.720 (95% CI: 0.645–0.794), sensitivity of 65.7%, specificity of 72.2%, Youden index of 0.379, and cut-off value of 0.305 overall, indicating good predictive value and accuracy. This model can assist clinicians and nonobstructive azoospermia patients in decision-making and avoiding negative micro-TESE results.

This study aims to characterize the cell atlas of the epididymis derived from a 46,XY disorders of sex development (DSD) patient with a novel heterozygous mutation of the nuclear receptor subfamily 5 group A member 1 (NR5A1) gene. Next-generation sequencing found a heterozygous c.124C>G mutation in NR5A1 that resulted in a p.Q42E missense mutation in the conserved DNA-binding domain of NR5A1. The patient demonstrated feminization of external genitalia and Tanner stage 1 breast development. The surgical procedure revealed a morphologically normal epididymis and vas deferens but a dysplastic testis. Microfluidic-based single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) analysis found that the fibroblast cells were significantly increased (approximately 46.5%), whereas the number of main epididymal epithelial cells (approximately 9.2%), such as principal cells and basal cells, was dramatically decreased. Bioinformatics analysis of cell–cell communications and gene regulatory networks at the single-cell level inferred that epididymal epithelial cell loss and fibroblast occupation are associated with the epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT) process. The present study provides a cell atlas of the epididymis of a patient with 46,XY DSD and serves as an important resource for understanding the pathophysiology of DSD.

Abstract Although vacuum‐deposited metal halide perovskite light‐emitting diodes (PeLEDs) have great promise for use in large‐area high‐color‐gamut displays, the efficiency of vacuum‐sublimed PeLEDs currently lags that of solution‐processed counterparts. In this study, highly efficient vacuum‐deposited PeLEDs are prepared through a process of optimizing the stoichiometric ratio of the sublimed precursors under high vacuum and incorporating ultrathin under‐ and upper‐layers for the perovskite emission layer (EML). In contrast to the situation in most vacuum‐deposited organic light‐emitting devices, the properties of these perovskite EMLs are highly influenced by the presence and nature of the upper‐ and presublimed materials, thereby allowing us to enhance the performance of the resulting devices. By eliminating Pb° formation and passivating defects in the perovskite EMLs, the PeLEDs achieve an outstanding external quantum efficiency (EQE) of 10.9% when applying a very smooth and flat geometry; it reaches an extraordinarily high value of 21.1% when integrating a light out‐coupling structure, breaking through the 10% EQE milestone of vacuum‐deposited PeLEDs.

Abstract Purpose We aimed to construct a nomogram to predict personalized post‐recurrence survival (PRS) among colorectal cancer liver metastasis (CRLM) patients with post‐hepatectomy recurrence. Methods Colorectal cancer liver metastasis patients who received initial hepatectomy and had subsequent recurrence between 2001 and 2019 in Sun Yat‐sen University Cancer Center from China were included in the study. Patients were randomly assigned to a training cohort and a validation cohort on a ratio of 2:1. Univariable analysis was first employed to select potential predictive factors for PRS. Then, the multivariable Cox regression model was applied to recognize independent prognostic factors. According to the model, a nomogram to predict PRS was established. The nomogram's predictive capacity was further assessed utilizing concordance index (C‐index) values, calibration plots, and Kaplan–Meier curves. Results About 376 patients were finally enrolled, with a 3‐year PRS rate of 37.3% and a 5‐year PRS rate of 24.6%. The following five independent predictors for PRS were determined to construct the nomogram: the largest size of liver metastases at initial hepatectomy, relapse‐free survival, CEA level at recurrence, recurrent sites, and treatment for recurrence. The nomogram displayed fairly good discrimination and calibration. The C‐index value was 0.742 for the training cohort and 0.773 for the validation cohort. Abstract Background This study analyzed the clinical features, imaging manifestations, histopathology, immunohistochemistry, and surgical approaches of the orbital solitary fibrous tumor (OSFT), as well as the factors for postoperative recurrence of such disease. Methods The clinical data of 16 patients with OSFT treated in our center from 2003 to 2020 were analyzed retrospectively, and the clinical symptoms, treatment methods, and follow-up results were recorded. Results Of the 16 patients, 8 were females (50.0 %) and 8 were males (50.0 %); the average age of treatment was 37 ± 7 years and the median follow-up time was 74 (8, 228) months. Sixteen patients with OSFT underwent a total of 29 operations, of which 12 were transorbital approach operations and 17 were transfronto-orbital approach operations. Ten patients (10/16, 62.5 %) had recurrence. The recurrence rate of transorbital approach operations was 83.3 % (10/12), and the recurrence rate of transfronto-orbital approach operations was 17.6 % (3/17). No patients had treatment-related complications. Conclusions The main pathological feature of OSFT is a benign tumor. OSFT has a tendency to grow toward the cranio-orbital junction. The postoperative recurrence rate of OSFT is relatively high, so complete tumor resection is very important for prognosis. Inappropriate surgical approaches can lead to incomplete removal of the tumor and cause recurrence. Choosing the correct operation approach according to the position of the OSFT in the orbit and complete removal of the dura mater and bone affected by the tumor is crucial for the prognosis. Nevertheless, regular long-term follow-up after complete resection is necessary.

The aim of our study was to compare the sperm retrieval rates (SRRs) and clinical outcomes of patients with different causes of azoospermia who underwent microdissection testicular sperm extraction-intracytoplasmic sperm injection (micro-TESE-ICSI). We conducted a retrospective study at the Reproductive Medicine Center of Peking University Third Hospital in Beijing, China, from January 2014 to December 2017. This study examined 769 patients with nonobstructive azoospermia who underwent 347 cycles of micro-TESE-ICSI. Patients with azoospermia were classified into Group A (Klinefelter syndrome, n = 284, 125 cycles), Group B (azoospermia Y chromosome factor c [AZFc] microdeletion, n = 91, 64 cycles), Group C (cryptorchidism, n = 52, 39 cycles), Group D (previous mumps and bilateral orchitis, n = 23, 23 cycles), and Group E (idiopathic azoospermia, n = 319, 96 cycles). Clinical characteristics, SRR, embryonic development, and pregnancy outcomes of the patients were compared between all groups. Patients in Group D had the highest and most successful SRR. The average SRR for all patients was 46.0%. The rates of clinical pregnancy, implantation, and live birth in Group D were 78.3%, 65.0%, and 74.0%, respectively, which were higher than those in all other groups (P < 0.05). Group B patients had the lowest clinical pregnancy, implantation, and live birth rates of all groups (P < 0.05). No differences were found in the miscarriage rate or birth defects among the groups (P > 0.05). Patients with orchitis had the highest SRR and best clinical outcomes. Although AZFc microdeletion patients had a higher SRR, their clinical outcomes were worse.

We performed this study to evaluate the clinical outcomes of microdissection testicular sperm extraction-intracytoplasmic sperm injection (micro-TESE-ICSI) treatment that used fresh or cryopreserved sperm in patients with nonobstructive azoospermia (NOA). A total of 338 NOA patients with 344 consecutive cycles received treatment in the reproductive medicine center of Peking University Third Hospital in Beijing, China, from January 2014 to December 2017. Fresh oocytes and fresh sperm were used in 222 patients with 234 cycles (Group A). Fresh oocytes and cryopreserved sperm were used in 116 patients with 110 cycles (Group B). We compared patient characteristics, embryonic development, and pregnancy outcomes between Groups A and B. There was no statistical difference in the patient characteristics, and no differences were observed with fertilization or quality embryo rates between Groups A and B. The rates of clinical pregnancy and live birth were both higher for Group A than those for Group B (both P < 0.05). In conclusion, fresh testicular sperm appears to produce better ICSI outcomes than cryopreserved testicular sperm in patients with NOA.

Objective To investigate the clinical features, diagnosis and surgical treatment of intracranial fungal infections of sinonasal origin. Methods and Results In this retrospective study, clinical data of 15 cases who were diagnosed as intracranial fungal infection from November 2004 to July 2019 at Department of Neurosurgery, Beijing Tongren Hospital were analyzed. Nine cases have a history of paranasal sinus surgery. Headache and visual disturbance were major presenting clinical features. Neurosurgical operations were performed in 14 patients: 8 cases were operated by the transcranial approach (2 cases by eyebrow incision), 4 cases by endoscopic sinus surgery, 2 cases by combined approach. Lumbar cistern drainage was performed in one case. All 15 patients were treated with antifungal treatment. Intracranial fungal granuloma (IFG) was in 9 cases, intracranial fungal abscess in 4 cases, diffuse fungal meningitis in 2 cases. Total resection was performed in 3 cases and subtotal resection was in 7 cases, and partial resection or biopsy was in 4 cases. Diagnosis of intracranial fungal infection was established by the histopathological analysis and/or fungal cultures. Aspergillus (10 cases) was the most common pathogen, followed by Candida albicans (3 cases), and Mucor (2 cases). During a follow⁃up period of 6 months to 14 years, 2 cases recurred and reoperated, 3 cases died. Conclusions Intracranial fungal infections of sinonasal origin may take the form of fungal granuloma or abscess formation. The morbidity and mortality are high. Aspergillus is the most common pathogen. Headache is the most common symptom. Preoperative diagnosis is difficult. The drainage of sinuses should be unobstructed. Frozen pathological examination during the operation can make a clear diagnosis in the early stage. Long⁃term antifungal treatment and long⁃term follow⁃up are needed after the operation. ObjectiveThe present study aims to analyse the clinical presentation, treatment and prognosis of a group of patients with orbital cavernous venous malformation (OCVM) with an insidious onset.MethodThe clinical data of 35 patients with OCVM treated at our centre between 2003 and 2020 were retrospectively analysed. The OCVMs were classified as one of six types (I–VI) according to the orbital position of the tumour. The clinical characteristics, treatment methods and follow-up results were recorded.ResultsA total of 35 patients with OCVM under the optic nerve sheath in the orbital apex area or the common tendon ring (Types I and II) were included in the present study. In 20 cases (57.1%), patients were misdiagnosed with optic neuritis, and in 20 cases (57.1%), the tumour was not identified based on imaging. The presentation was acute or subacute in 23 cases (65.7%). All patients underwent surgery: transnasal surgery in 22 cases (62.9%) and craniotomy in 13 cases (37.1%). A total of 9 patients (25.7%) experienced postoperative complications, and 17 patients (48.6%) experienced vision improvement. The average patient age at first diagnosis was 43.3 ± 10.3 years, and the median follow-up period was 64.5 months. Overall, 14 patients (40%) experienced postoperative complications: postoperative blindness in 6 cases, postoperative vision loss in 8 cases and orbital apex syndrome in 7 cases.ConclusionPatients with Type I and Type II OCVMs are the most complex cases. They have an insidious onset and are associated with a high rate of misdiagnosis and missed diagnosis. Acute and subacute decreases in visual acuity are mainly caused by OCVM haemorrhage. The difficulty of surgical treatment and the poor prognosis of postoperative vision are characteristics of this tumour. Transnasal surgery and craniotomy can be used to remove OCVMs located in the common tendon ring or optic canal as well as those involving the intracranial area through the supraorbital fissure. Meanwhile, the orbital approach (orbitotomy) has proven to be an effective method of treating OCVMs not involving the deep orbital apex and intracranial area.

The present study was designed to investigate the role of circulating miRNA-21 (miR-21) in vascular restenosis of lower extremity arterial occlusive disease (LEAOD) patients after interventional therapy. A total of 412 LEAOD patients were enrolled randomly in the present study. According to computed tomography angiography (CTA) and ankle-brachial index (ABI), patients were assigned into the restenosis group and the non-restenosis group. miR-21 expression was detected with quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR) before and after patients underwent interventional therapy. A follow-up period of 6 months was achieved. A receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was drawn and the area under the curve (AUC) was calculated to assess the predictive value of miR-21 in vascular restenosis. Patients were older in the restenosis group than in the non-restenosis group. The percentages of patients with diabetes and hypertension were higher in the restenosis group than in the non-restenosis group, and the Fontaine stage exhibited a significant difference between the two groups. miR-21 expression was higher in the restenosis group than in the non-restenosis group. miR-21 expression level was related to age, diabetes and hypertension in the restenosis group. Using miR-21 to predict vascular restenosis yielded an AUC of 0.938 (95% confidence interval (CI): 0.898–0.977), with Youden index of 0.817, sensitivity of 83.5% and specificity of 98.2%. Logistic regression analysis revealed that diabetes and miR-21 expression were the major risk factors for vascular restenosis of LEAOD. miR-21 can be used as a predictive indicator for vascular restenosis of LEAOD after interventional therapy. Many studies have shown that microRNAs (miRNAs) play vital roles during the spermatogenesis. However, little is known about the altered miRNA profiles of testicular tissues in nonobstructive azoospermia (NOA). Using microarray technology, the miRNA expression profiles of testicular biopsies from patients with NOA and of normal testicular tissues were determined. Bioinformatics analyses were conducted to predict the enriched biological processes and functions of identified miRNAs. The microarray data were validated by quantitative reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR), the results of which were then validated with a larger sample size. Correlations between the miRNA expression levels and clinical characteristics were analyzed. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis was used to evaluate the diagnostic ability of miRNAs for azoospermia. Hierarchical clustering showed that 129 miRNAs were significantly differentially expressed between the NOA and control groups. Bioinformatics analysis indicated that the differentially expressed miRNAs were involved in spermatogenesis, cell cycle, and mitotic prometaphase. In the subsequent qRT-PCR assays, the selected miRNA expression levels were consistent with the microarray results, and similar validated results were obtained with a larger sample size. Some clinical characteristics were significantly associated with the expression of certain miRNAs. In particular, we identified a combination of two miRNAs (miR-10b-3p and miR-34b-5p) that could serve as a predictive biomarker of azoospermia. This study provides altered miRNA profiles of testicular biopsies from NOA patients and examines the roles of miRNAs in spermatogenesis. These profiles may be useful for predicting and diagnosing the presence of testicular sperm in individuals with azoospermia.

Once-daily tadalafil administration has been well established; however, studies about tadalafil once-daily treatment in the Chinese population are lacking. In this phase 4, postmarketing study, we ascertained the long-term safety and effectiveness of tadalafil 2.5 mg and 5.0 mg once daily in Chinese men with erectile dysfunction (n = 635). The primary endpoint of the study was safety at 12 months as assessed by the proportion of patients experiencing at least one treatment-emergent adverse event (serious or nonserious). The secondary endpoints included safety and effectiveness, measured by the International Index of Erectile Function-Erectile Function (IIEF-EF) domain scores. Similar adverse events to the known safety profile of tadalafil, such as nasopharyngitis, upper respiratory tract infection, headache, and dizziness, were detected. No new cardiovascular safety concerns were observed. After 3 months of treatment, significant increases in IIEF-EF domain scores were detected for both 2.5-mg (least squares [LS] mean change: 6.3; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 5.4–7.1; P < 0.001) and 5.0-mg (LS mean change: 7.4; 95% CI: 6.8–7.9; P < 0.001) tadalafil doses, and significance was maintained up to 12 months. In addition, approximately 40% of patients regained normal erectile function (IIEF-EF ≥26) following 1 year of tadalafil once-daily treatment. The findings in this study provide evidence for the extended effectiveness and tolerability of tadalafil, demonstrating no new safety concerns, in a Chinese population and make once-daily tadalafil administration a viable option for improving sexual performance and satisfaction in Chinese men with erectile dysfunction.

Abstract Background Pathologic response is evaluated according to the extent of tumor regression and is used to estimate the efficacy of preoperative treatment. Several studies have reported the association between the pathologic response and clinical outcomes of colorectal cancer patients with liver metastases who underwent hepatectomy. However, to date, no data from Chinese patients have been reported. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the association between the pathologic response to pre-hepatectomy chemotherapy and prognosis in a cohort of Chinese patients. Patients and methods In this retrospective study, we analyzed the data of 380 liver metastases in 159 patients. The pathologic response was evaluated according to the tumor regression grade (TRG). The prognostic role of pathologic response in recurrence-free survival (RFS) and overall survival (OS) was assessed using Kaplan–Meier curves with the log-rank test and multivariate Cox models. Factors that had potential influence on pathologic response were also analyzed using multivariate logistic regression and Kruskal–Wallis/Mann–Whitney U tests. Results Patients whose tumors achieved pathologic response after preoperative chemotherapy had significant longer RFS and OS than patients whose tumor had no pathologic response to chemotherapy (median RFS: 9.9 vs. 6.5 months, P = 0.009; median OS: 40.7 vs. 28.1 months, P = 0.040). Multivariate logistic regression and Kruskal–Wallis/Mann–Whitney U tests showed that metastases with small diameter, metastases from the left-side primary tumors, and metastases from patients receiving long-duration chemotherapy had higher pathologic response rates than their control metastases (all P

Background: Various surgical approaches for the removal of sellar region lesions have previously been described. This study aimed to evaluate the reliability and safety of the frontolateral approach (FLA) to remove sellar region lesions. Methods: We presented a retrospective study of 79 patients with sellar region lesions who were admitted and operated by the FLA approach from August 2011 to August 2015 in Department of Neurosurgery of Beijing Tian Tan Hospital. We classified FLA into three types, compared the FLA types to the areas of lesion invasion, and analyzed operation bleeding volume, gross total resection (GTR) rate, visual outcome, and mortality. Results: Seventy-nine patients were followed up from 2.9 to 50.3 months with a mean follow-up of 20.5 months. There were 42 cases of meningiomas, 25 cases of craniopharyngiomas, and 12 cases of pituitary adenomas. The mean follow-up Karnofsky Performance Scale was 90.4. GTR was achieved in 75 patients (94.9%). Two patients (2.5%) had tumor recurrence. No patients died perioperatively or during short-term follow-up. Three patients (3.8%) with craniopharyngioma died 10, 12, and 23 months, respectively, after surgery. The operative bleeding volume of this study was no more than that of the other approaches in the sellar region (P = 0.783). In this study, 35 patients (44.3%) had visual improvement after surgery, 38 patients (48.1%) remained unchanged, and three patients' visual outcome (3.8%) worsened. Conclusions: FLA was an effective approach in the treatment of sellar region lesions with good preservation of visual function. FLA classification enabled tailored craniotomies for each patient according to the anatomic site of tumor invasion. This study found that FLA had similar outcomes to other surgical approaches of sellar region lesions.

Background:. Tuberculum sellae meningiomas (TSMs) present a special symptom because of the adherence and compression to the optic nerve, optic artery, and the chiasm. A significant number of patients with TSMs appear visual deficits. This study aimed to investigate the surgical indications of exploring the optic canal and visual prognostic factors in the neurosurgical treatment of TSMs. Methods:. Totally 21 patients with TSM, who were operated from September 2007 to August 2011 in the Department of Neurosurgery, Tongren Hospital were enrolled in this study. Results of orbital computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), visual acuity, Goldmann visual field test, orbital color Doppler flow imaging (CDI) test in these patients were retrospectively analyzed. Results:. Visual deficit and optic canal involvement (OCI) were detected in all the 21 patients. Fourteen patients had bone proliferation within the area of the optic canal. After the operation, visual outcomes were improved in 13 patients, unchanged in 7 patients, and deteriorated in 1 patient. All the 21 patients performed orbital CDI test preoperatively, the results showed that if the peak systolic velocity (PSV) of central retinal artery (CRA) value was ≤8 cm/s, the visual outcome would be better. Conclusions:. The surgical indications of exploring optic canal in TSM cases included: (1) The neuroimaging evidences of OCI (CT and/or MRI); (2) PSV of CRA in orbital CDI test was ≤8 cm/s; (3) visual acuity was below 0.1; (4) visual field deficit. The PSV of CRA in CDI test could be a prognostic factor for visual outcomes of TSMs.

Low carbon steels require not only high strength and hardness，but also good corrosion resistance and antibacterial property.In order to study the corrosion resistance and antibacterial property of different low carbon steels with different Cu contents under complex working conditions，four steels with different microstructures were selected: MS1500，S-Ten2，F92 and 17-4PH.Acidic (pH＝3)，neutral (pH＝7)，alkaline (pH＝11) and bacterial solutions (escherichia coli and staphylococcus) were selected to simulate the complex environment in which the materials were applied.Their corrosion resistances in these four environments were compared and analyzed by potentiodynamic polarization，electrochemical impedance spectroscopy test and immersion test.The bacteriostatic experiment of the materials was carried out in the bacteria solution environment.In addition，the effect of different Cu precipitation states on the bacteriostatic performance of low carbon steel was further studied through bacteriostatic experiments on S-Ten2 low carbon steels treated with different heat treatments.Results showed that F92 and 17-4PH low carbon steels exhibited excellent corrosion resistance in four environments.The corrosion resistances of the four materials were similar in strong alkali environment.The corrosion resistance of S-Ten2 in alkaline environment was better than that in acidic and neutral environments，and the corrosion resistance of MS1500 was relatively stable in all experimental environments.The corrosion resistances of F92 and 17-4PH were better than that of MS1500 and S-Ten2 in staphylococcal fluid.The antibacterial property of S-Ten2 samples with 900 ℃-6 h water quenching and 560 ℃-6 h air cooling was better than that with 700 ℃-5 min solid solution in escherichia coli solution，indicating that reasonable heat treatment could make the Cu precipitate achieve ideal bacteriostatic effects，but in staphylococcal solution，the bacteriostatic property of samples treated with three different heat treatments were not good.
