Abstract

At high luminosity flavor factory experiments such as Belle II, global analyses with many observables are important to find new physics. Because the observables obtained by assuming the Standard Model could be changed by new physics effects in the kinematic distribution, such effects must be estimated with the detector simulation. We develop the event generator of B → K*ll decays including new physics effects in the model-independent way by parametrizing with the Wilson coefficients based on the EvtGen and EOS. An example of the kinematic distribution is shown, including possible new physics effects in Wilson coefficients.

Abstract

On March 25th 2019, the Belle II detector recorded the first collisions delivered by the SuperKEKB accelerator. This marked the beginning of the physics run with vertex detector. The vertex detector was aligned initially with cosmic ray tracks without magnetic field simultaneously with the drift chamber. The alignment method is based on Millepede II and the General Broken Lines track model and includes also the muon system or primary vertex position alignment. To control weak modes, we employ sensitive validation tools and various track samples can be used as alignment input, from straight cosmic tracks to mass-constrained decays. With increasing luminosity and experience, the alignment is approaching the target performance, crucial for the first physics analyses in the era of Super-BFactories. We will present the software framework for the detector calibration and alignment, the results from the first physics run and the prospects in view of the experience with the first data.

Abstract

The Belle II experiment features a substantial upgrade of the Belle detector and will operate at the SuperKEKB energy-asymmetric e+e− collider at KEK in Tsukuba, Japan. The accelerator completed its first phase of commissioning in 2016, and the Belle II detector saw its first electron-positron collisions in April 2018. Belle II features a newly designed silicon vertex detector based on double-sided strip layers and DEPFET pixel layers. A subset of the vertex detector was operated in 2018 to determine background conditions (Phase 2 operation). The collaboration completed full detector installation in January 2019, and the experiment started full data taking. This paper will report on the final arrangement of the silicon vertex detector part of Belle II with a focus on online monitoring of detector conditions and data quality, on the design and use of diagnostic and reference plots, and on integration with the software framework of Belle II. Data quality monitoring plots will be discussed with a focus on simulation and acquired cosmic and collision data.

Abstract

The high design luminosity of the SuperKEKB electron-positron collider will result in challenging levels of beam-induced backgro\ unds in the interaction region. Understanding and mitigating these backgrounds is critical to the success of the Belle~II experi\ ment. We report on the first background measurements performed after roll-in of the Belle II detector, a period known as SuperKE\ KB Phase 2, utilizing both the BEAST II system of dedicated background detectors and the Belle II detector itself. We also repor\ t on first revisions to the background simulation made in response to our findings. Backgrounds measured include contributions f\ rom synchrotron radiation, beam-gas, Touschek, and injection backgrounds. At the end of Phase 2, single-beam backgrounds origina\ ting from the 4 GeV positron Low Energy Ring (LER) agree reasonably well with simulation, while backgrounds from the 7 GeV elect\ ron High Energy Ring (HER) are approximately one order of magnitude higher than simulation. We extrapolate these backgrounds for\ ward and conclude it is safe to install the Belle II vertex detector., Comment: 22 Pages, 33 figures

15. Characteristics and Needs of Vietnamese Technical Intern Training Candidates (Care Workers) in Japan: A Qualitative Study.

Abstract

In Japan, where the shortage of care workers poses a challenge to the sustainability of the long-term care system, foreign care workers play a crucial role. This study aimed to identify the needs and challenges of Vietnamese Technical Intern Training candidates, the largest group of foreign care workers, to facilitate program reforms and a more efficient recruitment process. A semi-structured interview survey was conducted with 27 candidates in Vietnam. Interview items included reasons for choosing the training program in Japan, the desired length of stay, expectations, and career advancement after returning home. Descriptive statistics and K-means clustering were used to analyze the data. Survey results showed that all participants independently decided to pursue care worker training in Japan; 44% had considered other countries; most wanted to stay in Japan for as long as possible; and 37% wanted to live in Japan permanently. The K-means method revealed three clusters: a Japanophile cluster (preferred Japan for its landscape, culture, and national character); a word-of-mouth cluster (influenced by personal referrals); and an intellectual cluster (influenced by Japan's economic development and care levels). Our findings indicate that support for obtaining qualifications, Japanese language skills, and caregiving skills are important to secure the stability of foreign care workers. Abstract

This paper presents recent progress in the development and mass production of large-area hydrophobic silica aerogels for use as radiators in the aerogel-based ring-imaging Cherenkov (A-RICH) counter, which will be installed in the forward end cap of the Belle II detector. The proximity-focusing A-RICH system is especially designed to identify charged kaons and pions. The refractive index of the installed aerogel Cherenkov radiators is approximately 1.05, and we aim for a separation capability exceeding 4$\sigma $ at momenta up to 4 GeV/$c$. Large-area aerogel tiles (over 18 $\times $ 18 $\times $ 2 cm$^3$) were first fabricated in test productions by pin drying in addition to conventional methods. We proposed to fill the large end-cap region (area 3.5 m$^2$) with 124 water-jet-trimmed fan-shaped dual-layer-focusing aerogel combinations of different refractive indices (1.045 and 1.055). Guided by the test production results, we decided to manufacture aerogels by the conventional method and are currently proceeding with mass production. In an electron beam test undertaken at the DESY, we confirmed that the $K$/$\pi $ separation capability of a prototype A-RICH counter exceeded 4$\sigma $ at 4 GeV/$c$., Comment: To be published in Nucl. Reporting Method Patient or Public Contribution This study observed changes in respiratory rate measurement (RRM) and identified barriers and challenges in clinical practice that influence healthcare worker behaviour, aiming to improve RRM in a hospital setting.An observational study was conducted.We observed and analysed changes in the behaviour of healthcare workers at a hospital where multi‐nudges were introduced to improve RRM.We checked respiration rate using electronic data and discovered that the original measurement rates were low. Measurement rates rapidly increased after posters were added. Barriers such as time constraints and measurement equipment were also noted.RRM was found to be effective in promoting behavioural economics in medical settings. The results show that incorporating behavioural science principles into medical interventions has the potential to positively change behaviour.By increasing nurses' awareness of respiratory rate measurement and addressing barriers to it, the measurement rate of respiratory rate can also increase, leading to more accurate patient evaluations and triage.The proportion of respiratory rate measurements leading to rapid response system (RRS) calls was low.The study observed that a multi‐nudge approach effectively changes the behaviour of ward nurses, resulting in enhanced quality of medical care.This research can serve as a valuable reference for leaders promoting healthcare quality projects, by offering a method to encourage behavioural change.This study complied with the EQUATOR guidelines and its reporting adheres to the STROBE checklist.No patient or public contribution. Abstract

The earliest colonisation of oceanic islands by Homo sapiens occurred ~50 000-30 000 years ago in the Western Pacific, yet how this was achieved remains a matter of debate. With a focus on East Asia, the research presented here tests the hypothesis that bamboo rafts were used for these early maritime migrations. The authors review the evidence for Palaeolithic seafaring in East Asia as the context for an experimental archaeology project to build two bamboo watercraft. Sea trials demonstrate the unsuitability of bamboo, at least in East Asia, indicating that more sophisticated and durable vessels would have been required to traverse the Kuroshio Current. Computed tomography (CT) revealed a right retroperitoneal tumor, which was removed the same month. Histopathological examination showed teratoma and yolk sac tumor. He was diagnosed with primary retroperitoneal extragonadal germ cell tumor, and received three cycles of chemotherapy (bleomycin/etoposide/cisplatin ; BEP) starting in March 1997. Periodic imaging and determination of tumor markers (α fetoprotein, human chorionic gonadotropin, and lactate dehydrogenase) showed no recurrence or metastasis for five years after treatment. After his visit in April 2002 he stopped visiting our outpatient ward. In November 2017, the patient visited our department with chief complaints of indolent right scrotum enlargement and a right inguinal mass. Past history showed that he had undergone hydrocele of the right testicle in August 1999. Contrast enhanced CT showed a 35-mm contrast effect with uneven contents in the right testis, and enlarged nodes that were suspicious of metastases in the right inguinal and right external iliac lymph nodes. All tumor markers were within the normal ranges. He underwent right high orchiectomy and resection of the right inguinal lymph nodes in the same month. Histopathological findings revealed seminoma (pT1, pN2, M0, S0, and clinical Stage IIA). He received postoperative chemotherapy starting in January 2018 ; one cycle of BEP therapy and three cycles of etoposide and cisplatin (EP) therapy. Post-chemotherapeutic CT confirmed clinical complete response at the right external iliac lymph nodes, and this response was confirmed 12 months later. Neither recurrence nor metastasis has occurred so far.

47. Measuring the quality of life of long-term care service users in Japan: a cross-sectional questionnaire study

Abstract

[Background] In Japan’s super-aging society, the number of long-term care service providers is increasing, and the quality of care is a matter of concern. One aspect of the quality of care is the user’s quality of life. The questionnaires EQ-5D and WHO-5 are representative indicators of quality of life. Herein, we aimed to measure the quality of life in long-term care service users in Japan and to clarify the relationship between quality of life and the level of care required. [Methods] A questionnaire study was conducted in 106 facilities of 22 corporations. In addition to the EQ-5D and WHO-5, sex, age, and the level of care required were assessed by descriptive statistics. Bonferroni’s multiple comparison test was used to analyze each quality of life score, and the differences by sex and age were analyzed multiple regression analyses, with each quality of life score as the objective variable. [Results] Of 4647 cases collected, 2830 were analyzed, with no missing data. Both indicators tended to be lower than the general older population. Those scores tended to be higher in females than males (EQ-5D: males, 0.58 ± 0.26; females, 0.60 ± 0.24; P = 0.06 and WHO-5: males, 13.8 ± 5.92; females 14.9 ± 5.70; P < 0.001). In terms of age, those under 65 years old with specific diseases had lower EQ-5D scores than those in other age groups (P < 0.001); however, WHO-5 scores did not differ by age. Multiple regression analysis showed a significant association between the EQ-5D score and level of care required, except for support-required level 1, which tended to worsen as the level of care required increased. Conversely, the WHO-5 score was significantly lower for care need levels 2, 4, and 5. [Conclusions] The quality of life of long-term care service users was worse than that of the general older population, it tended to be low among males and those under 65 years old with specific diseases.
