Case reports and small trials leave perioperative obstetric management and route of delivery largely unclear. Three cases of femoral fracture are presented that occurred at 24, 30, and 31 weeks of gestation. The causes of femoral fracture were gunshot, motor vehicle collision, and fragility fracture. All fractures were surgically repaired, 1 utilizing neuraxial anesthesia and the others with general anesthesia. A 30-day postoperative course of low-molecular-weight heparin was prescribed, and all patients subsequently had vaginal deliveries. Femoral fractures in the viable pregnancy confer high maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality. Intraoperative fetal monitoring and postoperative anticoagulation should be considered, and vaginal delivery should not be contraindicated.Keywords: femoral fracture, antepartum testing, trauma in pregnancy, venous thromboembolism prevention, osteoporosis in pregnancy

The emergence of generative artificial intelligence (AI), as demonstrated by models like ChatGPT, has garnered significant attention in recent times owing to its capacity to transform multiple domains of society, including higher education. Within academia, individuals such as students, educators, and scholars have already employed Large Language Models (LLMs) such as ChatGPT for a diverse range of academic and non-academic endeavors. However, there is still debate regarding the use of ChatGPT in higher education. The acceptability and validity of its impact on higher education have been a recent burning issue. The primary aim of this review paper is to elucidate the utilization of ChatGPT within the context of higher education, considering its possible opportunities and challenges. The data utilized in this study has been generated by examining published papers, websites, and blogs. Using an "introductory literature review," we have analyzed, synthesized, and explained the data that was generated. The findings revealed inadequate technological access, overreliance on AI, the presence of inaccuracies within subject-based knowledge, and the inability of educators to adapt teaching strategies are the core challenges of ChatGPT in higher education. However, besides these challenges, ChatGPT also brings opportunities like the advancement of learning efficiency, the concept of personalized learning, support for educators, and opportunities for skill enhancement.

Everyone has lost their footing due to the pandemic. The academic community was unprepared, leaving both professors and students bewildered and without a sense of direction. The goal at the time was to overcome the calamity of educational discontinuity. Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4 – Education goal aims “to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all” relative to this SDG and the surge of the pandemic, digital divide become prominent, altering the course of educational landscape in all levels across public and private institutions. In the Bicol region, education was delivered in many various forms and variability, predicting the future through strategic foresight could propel the region to a transformed future. This paper discusses in detail the status of education in the region and the possible scenarios using Jim Dator’s Future Scenario Archetypes, Causal Layered Analysis and through Scenario Planning Plus. Four plausible scenarios have surfaced in this paper: STUG-nation of Education, Unstable and Disarray of Educational elements, Flowing-restrained Education, and ORAGON Education. It requires multiple drivers as examined through the PESTEL that includes political, economic, social, technological, environmental, legal aspects. This study proved useful in crafting and anticipating the future scenarios of Bicol Region’s education. Preliminary as it may, this study highlighted important building blocks of future scenarios through foresight methods. Dator’s framework was proved to be very useful in developing the four scenarios, the use of other future study tools will further amplify plausible scenarios for the education of Bicol region and beyond.

In the academic world, academicians, researchers, and students have already employed Large Language Models (LLMs) such as ChatGPT to complete their various academic and non-academic tasks, including essay writing, different formal and informal speech writing, summarising literature, and generating ideas. However, yet, it is a controversial issue to use ChatGPT in academic research. Recently, its impact on academic research and publication has been scrutinized. The fundamental objective of this study is to highlight the application of ChatGPT in academic research by demonstrating a practical example with some recommendations. Data for this study was gathered using published articles, websites, blogs, and visual and numerical artefacts. We have analyzed, synthesized, and described our gathered data using an "introductory literature review." The findings revealed that for the initial idea generation for academic scientific research, ChatGPT could be an effective tool. However, in the case of literature synthesis, citations, problem statements, research gaps, and data analysis, the researchers might encounter some challenges. Therefore, in these cases, researchers must be cautious about using ChatGPT in academic research. Considering the potential applications and consequences of ChatGPT, it is a must for the academic and scientific community to establish the necessary guidelines for the appropriate use of LLMs, especially ChatGPT, in research and publishing.

It is a pleasure to greet everyone with Volume 2, Issue 4: June 2022 of the Journal of Education, Management, and Development Studies (JEMDS). We have ended the year with a worth-reading journal issue. This is another productive and accomplished year for the journal editorial board. In this issue, we have the study titled “Evaluation of Esperanza Seaweeds Culture-Enterprise Federation: A Livelihood Project in Masbate, Philippines,” authored by Alvin M. Mahawan, Roger Y. Ibañez, Jr., and Jacob Frederick F. Velza. Also, we proudly offer the study “Documentation of Cultural Properties in Tabaco City, Philippines through Cultural Mapping,” written by Edgardo Besmonte, Al Besmonte, Alwin Calig, and Michael Cobilla. One of these issues highlighted research is the “Implementation of the BUMABANGON Posttraumatic Growth Intervention Program among the Grieving Parents by Traumatic Loss in Bataan, Philippines” by Jayvie Villazor and Rosalito De Guzman. In line with these is the study titled “Compliance of Engineering Programs to CDIO Standards: A Case of a State College in the Philippines,” authored by yours truly with Francia H. Tomenio and Keith Marlon R.Tabal. Lastly, this issue includes the paper titled “Seasoned Teachers’ Digital Skills Readiness in the Online Learning of Selected.” by Joy Therese Villon, Joevin B. Balon, and Auriane A. Aranilla. We swore in the upcoming years to publish articles with pertinent information that is development-driven and covers a broad spectrum of novel concepts. We are making every effort to be active and present across various industries to provide our partners and the public with the high-quality output they deserve. I want to thank every one of you for your steadfast support.

CDIO (Conceive, Design, Implement and Operate) emphasizes new approaches in engineering education, and provides students better learning experiences which will prepare them into the real-world of engineering works. This CDIO approach has been adopted by several universities around the world. In the Philippines, this approach has been introduced to several universities and colleges more specifically to engineering programs. Engineering programs at Camarines Sur Polytechnic has been in its third-year since its introduction of CDIO in 2017. This study was developed to evaluate the current state of the engineering programs on how well it lines up with the 12 CDIO standards using the CDIO’s 6-level self-evaluation rubric. Results showed that there are improvements on the ratings in 2020 as compared in 2017 where CDIO framework was first introduced in engineering programs. Standards 4, 5, 9, 10 and 11 were rated 4 which confirmed that the engineering program complies with the standards. Standards 1, 2, 3, 6, 7, 8 and 12 were rated 3 which confirmed that further development and improvement in these standards are sought. Compliance and alignment of CDIO standards to Commission on Higher Education (CHED) standards and quality assurance systems including Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines (AACCUP) and Philippine Technological Council (PTC) has been presented and found that CDIO standards conforms with the various quality assurance systems. Plans of action were developed for continuous improvement processes.

This paper explores possible scenarios for the Research Culture of Camarines Sur Polytechnic Colleges (CSPC), to be known as Polytechnic State University of Bicol (PSUB). The paper utilized Jim Dator’s four archetypes of alternative futures to construct PSUB’s Research Culture possible scenarios by 2030. This paper highlights the assumption that the research culture in PSUB is of world class quality and all of its faculty members are actively involved in research, its disciplined, collapsed, transformative, or business as usual scenarios. Four plausible scenarios have surfaced in this paper: Progressive Research Culture, Lax and Deficit Research Culture, Sophisticated Research Culture, and Transformative Research Culture. The article explored areas for a preferred future by 2030. It requires multiple drivers along faculty, students, administration and community for a better research culture. This study proved to be useful in crafting and anticipating the future scenarios of PSUB’s research culture. Preliminary as it may, this study highlighted important building blocks of the four future scenarios. Dator’s framework was proved to be very useful in developing the four scenarios, the use of other future study tools will further amplify plausible scenarios for the Polytechnic State University of Bicol.

We, the Camarines Sur Polytechnic Colleges Center for Research and Development (CSPC-CRD), kicked off the third issue of the Journal of Education, Management, and Development Studies (JEMDS), after the successful publication of the previous issues in our efforts to go beyond the mandate of the institution. We'll keep expanding our journal-making capabilities. It's fantastic news that researchers, professionals, scholars, and academicians can now access the journal. As a result, we have the opportunity to collaborate with academics from throughout the country and around the world. We attribute these accomplishments to the authors who entrusted the journal in publishing their ground-breaking research and were patient as their publications were revised. The editorial board, which established extensive protocols to examine the research in a double-blind approach, has also contributed to the sustained success of the journal. The journal is beneficial for sharing information about new research in the fields of education, management, and development studies. The journal is recognized as a genuine reference since the published papers maintain quality and give a more detailed description of the work, notably in the analysis and discussion sections. Their validity, relevance, significance, and distinctiveness are all supported by a peer-review process. African Americans have disproportionate rates of post-cessation weight gain compared to non-Hispanic whites, but few studies have examined this weight gain in a multiracial sample of smokers receiving evidence-based treatment in a community setting. We examined race differences in short-term weight gain during an intervention to foster smoking cessation plus weight management.Data were drawn from the Best Quit Study, a randomized controlled trial conducted via telephone quitlines across the U.S. from 2013 to 2017. The trial tested the effects on cessation and weight gain prevention of adding a weight control intervention either simultaneously with or sequentially after smoking cessation treatment. African Americans (n = 665) and whites (n = 1723) self-reported smoking status and weight during ten intervention calls. Abstract Background Smoking cessation often results in weight gain which discourages many smokers from quitting and can increase health risks. Treatments to reduce cessation-related weight gain have been tested in highly controlled trials of in-person treatment, but have never been tested in a real-world setting, which has inhibited dissemination. Methods The Best Quit Study (BQS) is a replication and “real world” translation using telephone delivery of a prior in-person efficacy trial. Design: randomized control trial in a quitline setting. Eligible smokers (n = 2540) were randomized to the standard 5-call quitline intervention or quitline plus simultaneous or sequential weight management. Regression analyses tested effectiveness of treatments on self-reported smoking abstinence and weight change at 6 and 12 months. Results Study enrollees were from 10 commercial employer groups and three state quitlines. Participants were between ages 18–72, 65.8% female, 68.2% white; 23.0% Medicaid-insured, and 76.3% overweight/obese. The follow-up response rate was lower in the simultaneous group than the control group at 6 months (p = 0.01). While a completers analysis of 30-day point prevalence abstinence detected no differences among groups at 6 or 12 months, multiply imputed abstinence showed quit rate differences at 6 months for:simultaneous (40.3%) vs. sequential (48.3%), p = 0.034 and simultaneous vs. control (44.9%), p = 0.043. Background: Two-thirds of treatment-seeking smokers are obese or overweight. Most smokers are concerned about gaining weight after quitting. The average smoker experiences modest post-quit weight gain which discourages many smokers from quitting. Although evidence suggests that combined interventions to help smokers quit smoking and prevent weight gain can be helpful, studies have not been replicated in real world settings. Methods: This paper describes recruitment and participant characteristics of the Best Quit Study, a 3-arm randomized controlled trial testing tobacco cessation treatment alone or combined with simultaneous or sequential weight management. Study participants were recruited via tobacco quitlines from August 5, 2013 to December 15, 2014. Results: Statistical analysis on baseline data was conducted in 2015/2016. Among 5082 potentially eligible callers to a tobacco quitline, 2540 were randomized (50% of eligible).
