Counseling theories created by White theorists have traditionally failed to consider the religious or spiritual experiences of Black clients. Integration of Black liberation theology and narrative therapy provides a novel approach to support counseling trainees in meeting the needs of Black clients. Decolonizing therapeutic strategies are presented along with counselor educator recommendations.

Using interpretative phenomenology analysis, this study explored the lived experiences of eight Latinx and Asian trainees. Four superordinate themes were identified: illuminating hegemonic structures, identity challenges, increasing competence through awareness, and varying connections. Implications related to cross-cultural counseling and counselor education and future research are discussed.

This exploratory quantitative study described school counselors' self-efficacy with English language learners. Findings suggest that school counselors with exposure to and experiences with English language learners have higher levels of self-efficacy. Statistically significant and practical differences in self-efficacy were apparent by race, U.S. region, size of English language learner population, and counselor training. This article presents implications for training and practice and recommendations for future research studies.

This constructivist grounded theory study explored a 3-year womanist affinity group for Black women across counseling programs at one university. The core category, homeplace, was identified as the foundation of the group process, with four categories: learning the hidden curriculum, expressing collective care, demonstrating womanish empowerment, and becoming the resistance. The death of George Floyd in May of 2020 re‐awakened the world to the social injustices in America. As the Black Lives Matter movement sparked protests in the streets of countries around the world, mental health professionals grappled with how best to support those they serve. While cultural competence has historically been the field's response, cultural humility has been promoted as an additional component of culturally responsive care. Since its adoption into counseling, scholars have attempted to better understand the phenomenon of cultural humility through analyses, measurement development, and theory development. In this article, the authors attempt to deepen an understanding of cultural humility by conceptualizing its development through critical consciousness. The researchers qualitatively investigated the individual supervision experiences of nine masters' students who were supervised by university-based supervisors, who used a cognitive developmental supervision process. The participants indicated that supervisors using Deliberate Psychological Education (a) provided a supportive environment, (b) cultivated counselor identity development, (c) encouraged personal growth, and (d) offered a space for concurrent development. Black American women in various academic arenas have been experiencing the imposter phenomenon throughout their academic careers. Described by Clance and Imes (1978), the imposter phenomenon is when women who have obtained merits in their field experience feelings of having fraudulently earned these honors and feel that they have deceived others in believing their intelligence. This article provides an overview of postmodern womanism and its use as a culturally responsive approach to address the imposter phenomenon and the socio-emotional needs of Black American women students in higher education by examining the components of womanism in literature and applying them to the counseling setting. The authors propose an integration of relational-cultural theory and reality therapy. The authors contend that the traditional assumptions of reality therapy are consistent with the relational aspects of relational-cultural theory and together provide a culturally responsive approach for diverse clients. The authors also include an overview of the 2 theories as well as highlight the convergences and divergences.
