Abstract Context Utilizing mobile apps to increase physical activity levels is now standard practice in cancer care. The study’s objective was to provide patients with precise physical activity recommendations and/or initiate self-directed exercise programs. Methods A multidisciplinary group directed the design procedure. We adhered to the self-determination approach,and accompanying behavior modification strategies, as well as international guidelines in the field of physical activity in cancer care. The design process was user-centered and involved three steps: Understanding the user and the context, conceptualization, and evaluation of the prototype. The testing was carried out by the beneficiaries, healthcare professionals, and two experts. Three criteria were evaluated in the designed solution: usability, quality, and potential for behavior change. Results The evaluation results of the designed solution showed good perception by both beneficiaries and healthcare professionals. The average system usability scale score was 90,6 (SD: 7.33) for beneficiaries, and 92.75 (SD: 3.83) for healthcare professionals. The first expert received a mean overall quality score of 4.51 on the mobile app rating scale, while the second received a score of 4.27. The results of the app behavior change scale gave the first expert a score of 17/21 and the second a score of 15/21. Conclusion Based on the criteria of usability, quality, and potential for behavior change, the designed app demonstrated positive results. This is a preliminary evaluation, which will be followed by additional, in-depth evaluations with larger sample sizes.

Background: The knee joint must adapt to the changes in walking speed to stabilize the stance phase and provide fluency in the swing phase.Objective: This study aimed to report a comparison of the gait patterns of transfemoral amputees using a novel mechanical prosthetic knee that can adapt automatically to different walking speeds with 3R60 and 3R15 knee prostheses.Material and Methods: In this experimental study, biomechanical data were collected from six unilateral trans-femoral amputees walking with three knee prostheses. Gait data were gathered at slow, normal, and fast walking speeds across a 7-meter walkway using the Vicon motion system.Results: The results revealed a significant difference in knee angular velocity during the swing phase between prosthetic knees across three walking speeds (P-value=0.002). Abstract Background PPHN is a common cause of neonatal respiratory failure and is still a serious condition and associated with high mortality. Objectives To compare the demographic variables, clinical characteristics, and treatment outcomes in neonates with PHHN who underwent ECMO and survived compared to neonates with PHHN who underwent ECMO and died. Methods We adhered to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guideline and searched ProQuest, Medline, Embase, PubMed, CINAHL, Wiley online library, Scopus and Nature for studies on the development of PPHN in neonates who underwent ECMO, published from January 1, 2010 to May 31, 2023, with English language restriction. Results Of the 5689 papers that were identified, 134 articles were included in the systematic review. Studies involving 1814 neonates with PPHN who were placed on ECMO were analyzed (1218 survived and 594 died). Neonates in the PPHN group who died had lower proportion of normal spontaneous vaginal delivery (6.4% vs 1.8%; p value > 0.05) and lower Apgar scores at 1 min and 5 min [i.e., low Apgar score: 1.5% vs 0.5%, moderately abnormal Apgar score: 10.3% vs 1.2% and reassuring Apgar score: 4% vs 2.3%; p value = 0.039] compared to those who survived. Neonates who had PPHN and died had higher proportion of medical comorbidities such as omphalocele (0.7% vs 4.7%), systemic hypotension (1% vs 2.5%), infection with Herpes simplex virus (0.4% vs 2.2%) or Bordetella pertussis (0.7% vs 2%); p = 0.042. Neonates with PPHN in the death group were more likely to present due to congenital diaphragmatic hernia (25.5% vs 47.3%), neonatal respiratory distress syndrome (4.2% vs 13.5%), meconium aspiration syndrome (8% vs 12.1%), pneumonia (1.6% vs 8.4%), sepsis (1.5% vs 8.2%) and alveolar capillary dysplasia with misalignment of pulmonary veins (0.1% vs 4.4%); p = 0.019. Neonates with PPHN who died needed a longer median time of mechanical ventilation (15 days, IQR 10 to 27 vs. 10 days, IQR 7 to 28; p = 0.024) and ECMO use (9.2 days, IQR 3.9 to 13.5 vs. 6 days, IQR 3 to 12.5; p = 0.033), and a shorter median duration of hospital stay (23 days, IQR 12.5 to 46 vs. 58.5 days, IQR 28.2 to 60.7; p = 0.000) compared to the neonates with PPHN who survived. ECMO-related complications such as chylothorax (1% vs 2.7%), intracranial bleeding (1.2% vs 1.7%) and catheter-related infections (0% vs 0.3%) were more frequent in the group of neonates with PPHN who died (p = 0.031). Conclusion ECMO in the neonates with PPHN who failed supportive cardiorespiratory care and conventional therapies has been successfully utilized with a neonatal survival rate of 67.1%. Mortality in neonates with PPHN who underwent ECMO was highest in cases born via the caesarean delivery mode or neonates who had lower Apgar scores at birth. Fatality rate in neonates with PPHN who underwent ECMO was the highest in patients with higher rate of specific medical comorbidities (omphalocele, systemic hypotension and infection with Herpes simplex virus or Bordetella pertussis) or cases who had PPHN due to higher rate of specific etiologies (congenital diaphragmatic hernia, neonatal respiratory distress syndrome and meconium aspiration syndrome). Neonates with PPHN who died may need a longer time of mechanical ventilation and ECMO use and a shorter duration of hospital stay; and may experience higher frequency of ECMO-related complications (chylothorax, intracranial bleeding and catheter-related infections) in comparison with the neonates with PPHN who survived.

Abstract Objective In epilepsy, early diagnosis, accurate determination of epilepsy type, proper selection of antiseizure medication, and monitoring are all essential. However, despite recent therapeutic advances and conceptual reconsiderations in the classification and management of epilepsy, serious gaps are still encountered in day‐to‐day practice in Egypt as well as several other resource‐limited countries. Premature mortality, poor quality of life, socio‐economic burden, cognitive problems, poor treatment outcomes, and comorbidities are major challenges that require urgent actions to be implemented at all levels. In recognition of this, a group of Egyptian epilepsy experts met through a series of consecutive meetings to specify the main concepts concerning the diagnosis and management of epilepsy, with the ultimate goal of establishing a nationwide Egyptian consensus. Methods The consensus was developed through a modified Delphi methodology. A thorough review of the most recent relevant literature and international guidelines was performed to evaluate their applicability to the Egyptian situation. Afterward, several remote and live rounds were scheduled to reach a final agreement for all listed statements. Results Of 278 statements reviewed in the first round, 256 achieved ≥80% agreement. Live discussion and refinement of the 22 statements that did not reach consensus during the first round took place, followed by final live voting then consensus was achieved for all remaining statements. Significance With the implementation of these unified recommendations, we believe this will bring about substantial improvements in both the quality of care and treatment outcomes for persons with epilepsy in Egypt. Plain Language Summary This work represents the efforts of a group of medical experts to reach an agreement on the best medical practice related to people with epilepsy based on previously published recommendations while taking into consideration applicable options in resource‐limited countries. The publication of this document is expected to minimize many malpractice issues and pave the way for better healthcare services on both individual and governmental levels.

Vein of Galen malformation (VGM) is a rare congenital, uncommon intracerebral vascular anomaly rarely complicated with the development of brain abscess as secondary to primary infection or after endovascular treatment. We report a very rare finding of a vein of Galen aneurysm associated with a large brain abscess at the time of diagnosis. A 12-year-old boy with a high-grade fever, severe headache, and recurrent episodes of convulsions came into the radiology department of Kassala Advanced Diagnostic Center. On a Siemens 16-slice scanner, brain non-contrast enhanced computed tomography (NECT) and contrast enhanced CT (CECT) was used to determine the source of the acute headache and convulsions which revealed a right frontal peripherally enhancing cystic lesion measuring 5.7 × 4.7 × 5.3 cm2 surrounded by massive vasogenic edema causing mass effect with midline shift to the left side by 1.5 cm suggestive of brain abscess. There is evidence of another avidly enhancing lesion seen within the third ventricle continuous with a straight sinus surrounded by extensive vascular loops consistent with an aneurysm of the vein of Galen, it was causing compression of the cerebral aqueduct with upstream mild hydrocephalus with dilated both lateral ventricles. Late presentation, diagnosis, and treatment also lead to an increase in the morbidities and mortalities of such case conditions. Urgent intervention should be considered for better outcomes.

Abstract The legislator enables the administration to carry out its activities, by granting certain means to achieve that goal, one of the most prominent of these is the imposition of general administrative sanctions on violators of laws and regulations directly.However, the legislator sometimes interferes and imposes special restrictions on the authority of the administration before imposing it on the general administrative penalty, such as warning the person concerned, and taking the opinion of the specific committee. The legislator obliges the administration to warn the violator of the violation in the violations that can be awaited, such as minor and non-hazardous violations, in order to remedy the imposition of the penalty on the violators, given the simplicity of the violation,

Ti-10%Zr-2%Sn-8%Mo alloy and Ti-10%Zr-2%Sn-8%Ta alloy were manufactured using the technique of powder metallurgy. The corrosion of the two alloys was performed after 1 h, 24 h, and 48 h immersion in 3.5% NaCl solution using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), cyclic polarization (CPP), and the measurement of current over time. EIS (Nyquist and Bode) data indicated that the Ti-10%Zr-2%Sn-8%Ta alloy has higher polarization resistance compared to the Ti-10%Zr-2%Sn-8%Mo alloy. CPP results revealed that the Ti-10%Zr-2%Sn-8%Ta alloy has higher corrosion resistance and lower corrosion currents. The experiments of measuring the change of current over time at 500 mV showed that both the Ti-10%Zr-2%Sn-8%Mo alloy and the Ti-10%Zr-2%Sn-8%Ta alloy do not show pitting corrosion, which confirms the CPP results. Extending the time to 24 h and 48 h increased the corrosion resistance for both alloys. The surface of the alloys after being corroded in NaCl solution were investigated using scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive spectroscopy. All investigations confirmed that the Ti-10%Zr-2%Sn-8%Ta alloy is more passivated than the Ti-10%Zr-2%Sn-8%Mo alloy and the increase of exposure time to 48 h enhances the passivation of both alloys, which recommends that these alloys are best choice in the biomedical applications.

Composite materials play a crucial role in various industries, with plastic composites being particularly significant. This research specifically focuses on producing cotton fabric layers to reinforce polymeric composites. The experiment is designed in two phases. In the first stage, woven fabric is produced using roving as weft insertion instead of the conventional threads or spun yarns. This modification enhances the absorbency of the resin matrix during composite production, leading to improved properties. The second stage of the experiment involves manufacturing composite materials using different fabric structures (plain, twill, and sateen) and varying numbers of fabric layers (1, 3, and 5). This is achieved through a novel process called Vacuum Assisted Resin Transfer Molding (VARTM), which is used for fabric composites instead of the traditional laminated composites. VARTM offers advantages in terms of production efficiency and composite quality. To evaluate the physical and mechanical properties of the resulting composites, several tests are conducted. These include tensile properties testing, bending rigidity testing, measurement of composite thickness, and determination of density. The test results provide valuable insights into the performance of fabric composites under different conditions. Furthermore, the experimental results are compared with simulations conducted using the Finite Element Method (FEM) through COMSOL software. The agreement between the experimental and simulated results confirms the reliability of the proposed approach.

This study synthesized a ferric oxide–nanographite (NG) nanocomposite (Fe2O3@NG) from waste toner powder through carbonization. Subsequently, a TiO2/Fe2O3@NG nanohybrid was fabricated using the sol–gel technique to improve the photocatalytic degradation of dyes. TiO2/Fe2O3@NG nanocomposites were prepared at TiO2:Fe2O3@NG ratios of 2:1 (Ti:T-21), 1:1 (Ti:T-11), and 1:2 (Ti:T-12). The porosity, morphology, surface chemistry, and chemical interactions between TiO2, Fe2O3, and graphite in the prepared TiO2/Fe2O3@NG nanocomposites were characterized using the Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) method and microscopic and spectroscopic analyses. The TiO2/Fe2O3@NG nanohybrid exhibited a reduced bandgap (2.4–2.9 eV) and enhanced charge carrier separation through charge transfer at the junction of the hetero-structured TiO2/Fe2O3@NG nanohybrid. Preliminary experiments revealed that Ti:T-21 was the most effective photocatalyst for degrading acid blue-25 (AB-25) compared to Ti:T-11, Ti:T-12, sole TiO2, and Fe2O3@NG. This study also investigated the impacts of catalyst dose and initial dye concentration on the AB-25 photocatalytic degradation. Notably, 97% of 5-mg/L AB-25 was removed using 1.25-g/L Ti:T-21 at an unmodified pH of 6.4 within 120 min. Furthermore, Ti:T-21 exhibited remarkable recyclability in its immobilized form, achieving degradation ratios of 74.7%–71.8% over five consecutive runs, compared to removal efficiencies of 85.0%–62.3% in the suspended mode. Trapping experiments identified hydroxyl radicals, holes, and superoxide as the principal reactive radicals. The TiO2/Fe2O3@NG/light system was effective in disintegrating and mineralizing other synthetic dyes such as Congo red, methylene blue, and methyl red, indicating its potential for industrial-scale degradation of authentic dye wastewater. The utilization of waste toner for water treatment is highlighted as a strategy to promote environmental sustainability, foster a circular economy, and contribute to pollution remediation.

Central to our contributions is the exploration of the power function distribution, a pivotal sub-model within this innovative family, demonstrating unparalleled flexibility across a broad spectrum of data types. Our investigation delves into seven prominent parameter estimation techniques, rigorously assessing their efficacy through both simulation studies and real-life medical datasets. This comparative analysis highlights the superior performance of the proposed model against existing standards, particularly through improved goodness-of-fit measures across four distinct medical science lifetime datasets. The findings highlight the new model's dominance in capturing complex data patterns, attributable to its adaptable density and hazard rate functions. These attributes significantly enhance modeling capabilities, paving the way for more precise and reliable medical research outcomes. The study concludes by emphasizing the model's potential in advancing statistical methodologies for medical science, backed by theoretical and empirical validations of its superior performance and versatility.

Wellbore instability has become an increasing concern for horizontal and extended-reach wells, especially through shale cap rocks. This paper presents a comprehensive analysis of the factors that led to the wellbore being unstable in the Tanuma Formation, the Nasiriyah oilfield in southern Iraq. By constructing a mechanical earth model using open-hole wireline data from two drilled wells. Mohr-Coulomb, Mogi-Coulomb, and Modified Lade failure criteria are used to analyze the breakouts and determine the density of mud that is required for a safe wellbore wall. The results indicated that the Mogi-Coulomb criterion is more similar to the actual well failure than the other two criteria. The wellbore instability findings showed that the most stable wells are those that are vertical and have a low deviated angle (less than 10°), and it is advised that these wells be drilled with a mud weight of 11.3 to 14 ppg. The acceptable range for the weight of the mud for horizontal and greatly deviated wells is between 11.9 and 13.8 ppg. Consequently, the future wells development plan for the studied region is improved and leads to cost reductions.

Abstract Higher education is crucial for the development of states and societies and improving the overall quality of life. However, entry into higher education is often influenced by factors beyond qualifications, and individuals in the field face suppression from the controlling parties. These challenges undermine the value of education and the integrity of democratic processes like elections. In this paper, we study academic freedom in Lebanon and propose a technique that dynamically extracts the factors that might affect academic freedom. This technique comprises multiple stages: data collection, data preprocessing, static extraction of factors, dynamic extraction of factors, and evaluation. In the data collection stage, data was obtained from 254 participants through a questionnaire that discusses various facets of academic freedom. The preprocessing stage enhances data quality through cleaning, normalizing, and transforming. For static extraction, factors impacting academic freedom are identified using naive K-means clustering. In dynamic extraction, the Apriori algorithm identifies key metrics. Finally, a customized K-means algorithm clusters data based on a specific metric. This algorithm was applied on both, the statically and dynamically extracted metrics, and comparison was done based on the accuracy of the resultant clustering. This comparison demonstrates the effectiveness of the proposed technique in identifying and analyzing factors impacting academic freedom.

Abstract Background Castanea sativa Mill. is important for ecosystems and societies. Its rich historical and cultural significance, remarkable ecological contributions, and diverse applications have inspired scientific research. This comprehensive review and conceptual mapping of chestnut research consolidates existing knowledge, identifies emerging trends, and highlights untapped potential to inform future investigations. First, the Scopus database was searched to retrieve all data-driven articles in English related to C. sativa published in English from 1951 to 2023. Second, the R language, Scopus Analytics, and VOSviewer were used to analyze the year of publication, authors, countries, affiliations, keywords, and citations. Finally, network analysis was performed to evaluate the hotspots and developmental trends of C. sativa. A total of 1889 research articles were recovered. Results The articles showed an exponential progression, with a regression coefficient of 0.9435 (R2) and an annual growth rate of 6.28%. Italy (19.87%), Spain (15.56%), Portugal (13.39%), Turkey (6.92%), and Switzerland (5.17%) were the most prolific countries. C. sativa (798), sweet chestnut (54), cryphonectria parasitica (44), honey (38), phenolic compounds (35), chestnut blight (33) and antioxidant activity (31) are the keywords that occur the most frequently. The main research groups in the thematic map are "forest management," "Cryphonectria parasitica," "wood," "Spain" and "ethnobotany." Research on C. sativa has all the basic, motor, niche, and emerging or declining themes. Forest management, drought, Gnomoniopsis smithogilvyi, C. sativa shells, amino acids, honey, phenolic compounds, hydrolyzable tannins, antioxidant capacity, antioxidants, and extractives are trending topics. Conclusions This bibliometric analysis highlights the importance of C. sativa research, revealing its ecological contributions, cultural significance, and diverse applications. Future studies should focus on forest management, drought resistance, and bioactive properties to ensure sustainable utilization.

Abstract Background This study aims to identify trends, research gaps, leading journals, institutions, countries, and authors by examining the top 100 cited Yttrium-90 Radioembolization (Y90) research articles. The insights gained will assist funding and collaboration efforts in Y90 research. The team analyzed 981 articles from 36 peer-reviewed journals, gathering data on authors, publication year, journal, citations, affiliations, keywords, and references. Author affiliations were scrutinized to pinpoint institutions and countries. p values 3, n = 31/35) and SCImago Q1 journals (86/100), with Northwestern University, Clínica Universidad de Navarra, and Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich being the leading institutions. The most prolific authors were Salem, R., Lewandowski, R.J., and Mulcahy, M.F., with Salem, R. as the most influential. A statistically significant positive correlation between collaborative links and published articles was also discovered. Short conclusion The top 100 cited articles were primarily published in high-impact journals, and Northwestern University and the USA showed greater productivity and collaboration. These findings have crucial implications for researchers, policymakers, and institutions, aiding in the improvement of Y90 application and understanding in clinical practice.

Abstract This study investigates the differential responses of two maize genotypes, SC180 and SC168, to salt stress, aiming to elucidate the mechanisms underlying salinity tolerance and identify traits associated with improved stress resilience. Salinity stress, imposed by 150 mM NaCl, adversely affected various growth parameters in both genotypes. SC180 exhibited a more pronounced reduction in shoot length (13.6%) and root length (13.6%) compared to SC168, which showed minimal reductions (3.0% and 2.3%, respectively). Additionally, dry weight losses in SC180's leaves, stems, and roots were significantly greater than those in SC168. Under salinity stress, both genotypes accumulated Na+ in all organs, with SC168 showing higher Na + concentrations. However, K+ levels decreased more significantly in SC180's leaves than in SC168's. The study also assessed physiological responses, noting that SC180 experienced a substantial reduction in relative water content (RWC) in leaves (22.7%), while SC168's RWC remained relatively stable (5.15%). Proline accumulation, a marker for osmotic adjustment, increased 2.3-fold in SC168 compared onefold in SC180. Oxidative stress indicators, such as electrolyte leakage and hydrogen peroxide levels, were elevated in both genotypes under salt stress, with SC180 showing higher increases (48.5% and 48.7%, respectively) than SC168 (35.25% and 22.0%). Moreover, antioxidant enzymes (APX, CAT, POD, SOD, GR) activities were significantly enhanced in SC168 under salinity stress, whereas SC180 showed no significant changes in these activities. Stress indices, used to quantify and compare salinity tolerance, consistently ranked SC168 as more tolerant (average rank = 1.08) compared to SC180 (average rank = 1.92). Correlation analyses further confirmed that SC168's superior tolerance was associated with better Na + regulation, maintenance of K+ levels, and a robust antioxidant defense system. In conclusion, SC168 demonstrated greater resilience to salinity stress, attributed to its efficient ion regulation, stable water status, enhanced osmotic adjustment, and strong antioxidant response. These findings provide valuable insights for breeding and developing salinity-tolerant maize varieties.

Abstract The present study evaluates the amelioration of fat clay by blending it with cohesive non-swelling soil (CNS) and cohesionless silty sandy soil (Kassu). The fat clay sample with a liquid limit (LL) of 50 and a plasticity index (PI) of 26 was collected from Narowal, while CNS and Kassu samples were procured from Lahore's outskirts. Geotechnical tests on the virgin soil indicated its unsuitability for construction. Laboratory tests, including modified Proctor compaction, unconfined compression, California bearing ratio (CBR), and one-dimensional consolidation, were performed on samples blended with 0–35% CNS or Kassu in 5% intervals. The LL and PI of fat clay decreased significantly with the addition of 35% CNS (LL: 50–32%, PI: 24 to 13) and Kassu (LL: 50–29%, PI: 24–12). The CBR value increased from 4 to 7%, making the blended soil suitable for subgrade use. Unconfined compression tests showed a strength increase from 102 to 185 kPa with 35% CNS and up to 140 kPa with 25% Kassu. Compaction tests revealed improved maximum dry unit weight and reduced optimum moisture content. Swell potential decreased from 4 to 1.2 and 0.26% with CNS and Kassu additions. Regression models predict swell pressure and ultimate swell potential. The study concludes that blending fat clay with CNS and Kassu significantly improves its geotechnical properties, with CNS being more effective in controlling swell characteristics.

Abstract To determine the distribution of keratometry and corneal astigmatism (CA) and their association with demographic factors, systemic parameters, anthropometric measures, ocular biometric indices, and refractive errors in people aged 60 years and above. In this cross-sectional study, 160 clusters were randomly selected from Tehran city (Iran) using the multi-stage cluster sampling method. All participants underwent optometric examinations including testing uncorrected and best-corrected distance visual acuity, non-cycloplegic autorefraction, and subjective refraction. Pentacam imaging for all participants was carried out using Pentacam AXL. Keratometry and CA were reported based on Pentacam’s data. The average, standard deviation (SD) and 95% confidence interval (CI) of flat keratometry (Kf), steep keratometry (Ks), mean keratometry (mean K), and CA were 44.02 ± 1.58 D (95% CI 43.94–44.1), 44.86 ± 1.67 D (95% CI 44.78–44.94), 44.44 ± 1.58 D (95% CI 44.36–44.52), and 0.84 ± 0.74 D (95% CI 0.81–0.87), respectively. The 95% and 99% percentiles of mean K were 47.1 and 48.6 D, respectively. According to the multiple generalized estimating equation model, the mean K was significantly higher in males, in myopes, and in those with higher systolic blood pressure. Moreover, the mean K was inversely related to the axial length, height, anterior chamber depth (ACD), corneal diameter, and central corneal thickness (CCT). The prevalence of various types of CA based on a cut-off > 0.50 D was as follows; with-the-rule: 32.5% (95% CI 30.6–34.4), against-the-rule: 18.2% (95% CI 16.7–19.7), and oblique: 10.0% (95% CI 9.1–11.0). The present study investigated the normal distribution of keratometry and CA in individuals ≥ 60 years, and results can be used in clinical matters, especially in intraocular lens power calculation. Sex, systolic blood pressure, height, and some biometric components such as ACD, corneal diameter, and CCT were significantly related to keratometry and should be considered.

The metaverse, a virtual universe in which individuals and companies can interact, has become of paramount importance in China in recent years. While the metaverses are still in their infancy, there has been a growing interest and influx of capital into these universes. Shariah-compliant corporations have been gradually attracting significant funds from Islamic countries, given the growing strong engagement and trade. Similarly, metaverse corporations have been gaining significant sizes in the Chinese market and have become cornerstones of the investment landscape. For Islamic investors, questions arise whether these new metaverse corporations provide better returns given the massive hype and media attention they have attracted, and whether a portfolio investment into these corporations deliver the benefits promised. The article provides a comparative analysis between Chinese Islamic metaverse and Shariah-compliant enterprises, where all enterprises have either A or H-shares. The performance analysis over a timespan of 10 years demonstrates that the most optimal portfolios have similar expected returns while general Shariah-compliant enterprises provide significantly lower risks as compared to the metaverse ones. This implies that Shariah-compliant enterprises provide significantly more value for the risk they are attributed and are more sustainable.

One of the special cases of type-2 fuzzy sets are the interval type-2 fuzzy sets, which are less complicated and easier to understand than T2FSs. In this study, we explore the interval type-2 fuzzy linear programming problem with the resources vector that have imprecision of the vagueness type. These types of vagueness are expressed via membership functions. First, we review the three available methods, including the Figueroa and Sarani methods. Then, using the three ideas of Verdegay, Werners, and Guu and Wu for solving fuzzy linear programming problems with vagueness in the resources vector, we propose three new methods for solving interval type-2 fuzzy linear programming problems with vagueness in the resources vector. Finally, we demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed methods by solving an example and comparing the results obtained with each other and with those of previous methods.

‎In this paper, we delve into frame theory to create an innovative iterative method for resolving the operator equation $ Lu=f $. In this case, $ L:H\rightarrow H $, a bounded, invertible, and self-adjoint linear operator, operates within a separable Hilbert space denoted by $H$. Our methodology, which is based on the GMRES projective method, introduces an alternate search space, which brings another dimension to the problem-solving process. Our investigation continues with the assessment of convergence, where we look at the corresponding convergence rate. This rate is intricately influenced by the frame bounds, shedding light on the effectiveness of our approach. Furthermore, we investigate the ideal scenario in which the equation finds an exact solution, providing useful insights into the practical implications of our work.

The Ni1−x CuxFe2O4 (where x = 0, 0.05, 0.10, 0.15) nano ferrite powder was synthesized through chemical co-precipitation method, NaOH and acid oleic as raw materials. The XRD patterns confirmed the spinal structure phase purity of materials. XRD results showed that lattice parameter decreases with the increase of copper concentration by increasing copper concentration in the parent material. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was used to determine the morphology and particle size. SEM analysis indicated that all the samples are in nano size and homogeneous. AC electrical properties of nanoparticles were investigated by employing impedance spectroscopy. The real and the imaginary parts of impedance, permittivity, modulus along with the real part of ac conductivity, and tan delta were measured and analyzed for all synthesized samples in 1 Hz to 7 MHz for different voltages at 300 K.

Abstract Introduction Taxi drivers, as professional drivers, encounter numerous ergonomic risk factors related to musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) because of the demands of their jobs. This study conducted as a systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to explore the prevalence of MSDs among taxi drivers. Materials and methods The present study followed the preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses (PRISMA) guidelines, and its protocol was registered in the international prospective register of systematic review (PROSPERO) under the code CRD42024509258. Searches were carried out using various databases, such as PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, Science Direct, SID, ISC, and Google Scholar, with no time restrictions until February 7th, 2024. A random effects model was utilized for meta-analysis, and the I2 index was employed to assess heterogeneity among studies. Lastly, data analysis was conducted using STATA software (version 14). Results After the initial search, 1606 articles were extracted from the reviewed sources. Following screening, study selection, and quality evaluation, a total of 11 studies were chosen for meta-analysis, involving 5277 taxi drivers. Abstract Background The importance of high-resolution computed tomography (HRCT) in the diagnosis of idiopathic interstitial pneumonia (IIP) is being recognized more and more. Pulmonary arterial hypertension is common in patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, the presence of PAH is linked to higher mortality rates and might explain why some people who otherwise have normal pulmonary function are displaying symptoms of deterioration. The aim of this work was to find out the potency of integration of high-resolution computed tomography (HRCT) scoring system with pulmonary artery systolic pressure (PASP) for ascertaining the disease severity of patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis and to predict the prognosis for proper management, along with incorporation of the key disparity of different HRCT scoring systems for the ILD. Results This prospective study included 80 patients, who came with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. A strong positive correlation (r = 0.989) was noted between total lung zone HRCT score and PASP, pulmonary artery size, grades of dyspnea and PCO2. Nonetheless, total lung zone HRCT score proved to have good correlation and inversely proportional to (r = − 0.71) 6MWT, PO2, SPO2, FVC and FEV1/FVC. We utilized a ROC curve to identify the optimal cutoff value in HRCT scoring systems, for detecting pulmonary hypertension associated with the IPF. The sensitivity and specificity of Warrick score cutoff value was higher compared to that of the HRCT scoring system-based grading scale. Both HRCT scoring systems attained high correlation coefficient factors with various incorporated parameters in the study. Conclusion We can safely say that in order to reveal the severity and prognosis of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, a high-resolution computed tomography scoring system should be incorporated with echocardiography measurement of pulmonary artery systolic pressure —which proved to be the most potent predictive factor; especially when measured after a specific HRCT score cutoff value—followed by (FEV1/FVC), the 6MWT and the severity of dyspnea. Their integration collectively will aid in precise management and follow-up of IPF cases. Both HRCT scoring systems proved to be potent and perfect for short-term interval follow-up, yet the Warrick score was easier and faster to use and attained relatively increased sensitivity and specificity for the cutoff value of the pulmonary hypertension detection compared to the HRCT scoring system-based grading scale.

Abstract This is an interim analysis of the Beta-blocker (Propranolol) use in traumatic brain injury (TBI) based on the high-sensitive troponin status (BBTBBT) study. The BBTBBT is an ongoing double-blind placebo-controlled randomized clinical trial with a target sample size of 771 patients with TBI. We sought, after attaining 50% of the sample size, to explore the impact of early administration of beta-blockers (BBs) on the adrenergic surge, pro-inflammatory cytokines, and the TBI biomarkers linked to the status of high-sensitivity troponin T (HsTnT). Patients were stratified based on the severity of TBI using the Glasgow coma scale (GCS) and HsTnT status (positive vs negative) before randomization. Patients with positive HsTnT (non-randomized) received propranolol (Group-1; n = 110), and those with negative test were randomized to receive propranolol (Group-2; n = 129) or placebo (Group-3; n = 111). Propranolol was administered within 24 h of injury for 6 days, guided by the heart rate (> 60 bpm), systolic blood pressure (≥ 100 mmHg), or mean arterial pressure (> 70 mmHg). Luminex and ELISA-based immunoassays were used to quantify the serum levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines (Interleukin (IL)-1β, IL-6, IL-8, and IL-18), TBI biomarkers [S100B, Neuron-Specific Enolase (NSE), and epinephrine]. Three hundred and fifty patients with comparable age (mean 34.8 ± 9.9 years) and gender were enrolled in the interim analysis. Group 1 had significantly higher baseline levels of IL-6, IL-1B, S100B, lactate, and base deficit than the randomized groups (p = 0.001). Group 1 showed a significant temporal reduction in serum IL-6, IL-1β, epinephrine, and NSE levels from baseline to 48 h post-injury (p = 0.001). Patients with severe head injuries had higher baseline levels of IL-6, IL-1B, S100B, and HsTnT than mild and moderate TBI (p = 0.01). HsTnT levels significantly correlated with the Injury Severity Score (ISS) (r = 0.275, p = 0.001), GCS (r = − 0.125, p = 0.02), and serum S100B (r = 0.205, p = 0.001). Early Propranolol administration showed a significant reduction in cytokine levels and TBI biomarkers from baseline to 48 h post-injury, particularly among patients with positive HsTnT, indicating the potential role in modulating inflammation post-TBI. Abstract Formation of Sulfate Reducing Bacteria (SRB) biofilm accelerates microbiologically influenced corrosion (MIC). The aim of this study was to investigate both the corrosivity of a marine SRB consortium on carbon steel coupons and its mitigation in the presence of ZnO. Metagenomics analysis revealed that Halodesulfovibrio (78.9%) was predominant and could be related to MIC. The analysis also showed a remarkable shift from a highly corrosive SRB consortium in the control bioreactors to a far less corrosive consortium when ZnO was added to the bioreactors. Further results indicated that the corrosion rate of the SRB consortium was 8.17 mpy on the carbon steel coupons. In the ZnO-treated bioreactors, the count of SRB and MIC in the carbon steel coupons simultaneously reduced. Moreover, Confocal Laser Scanning Microscopy and profilometry analysis determined that ZnO could significantly decrease the amount of biofilm and the corrosion rate. Electrochemical experiments revealed higher corrosion current density (i corr ) and lower charge transfer resistance (Rct) in the control bioreactors relative to the ZnO-treated bioreactors. We introduce Halodesulfovibrio as a potentially important corrosive genus in a marine SRB consortium. Additionally, ZnO could be considered a proper candidate to control the corrosion induced by Halodesulfovibrio.

Abstract In the modern era, the major problem is solving energy production and consumption. For this purpose, perovskite materials meet these issues and fulfill energy production at a low cost. Density functional theory and the Cambridge Serial Total Energy Package (CASTEP) are used to examine the characteristics of the cubic inorganic perovskites RPbBr3 (R = Cs, Hg, and Ga). In the context of the generalized gradient approximation (GGA), the ultrasoft pseudo-potential plane wave technique and the Perdew–Burke–Ernzerhof exchange–correlation functional are used for investigations. Structural, mechanical, electronics, and optical properties are investigated using CASTEP code. According to structural properties, compounds have a cubic nature with space 221 (Pm3m). Compounds formation energy (− 3.46, − 2.21, and − 3.14 eV)of (CsPbBr3, HgPbBr3, and GaPbBr3) and phonon calculations are studied and find that compounds are stable. The results of our investigation show that the compounds have narrow bandgaps of direct kind, with 1.85 eV for CsPbBr3, 1.56 eV for HgPbBr3, and 1.71 eV for GaPbBr3, respectively, indicating that they may be used to improve conductivity. Additionally, anisotropy (2.135, 3.651, 10.602), Pugh’s ratio (1.87, 2.25, 2.14), and Poison’s ratio (0.27, 0.31, 0.29) are traits that the compounds (CsPbBr3, HgPbBr3, GaPbBr3) display a ductile nature. The CsPbBr3 compound showed significant optical conductivity and absorption in terms of their optical properties, especially in the visible region, which makes them suitable for use in solar cell applications as well as for LED applications.

Abstract The effect of chemotherapy for anti-glioblastoma is limited due to insufficient drug delivery across the blood–brain–barrier. Poloxamer 188-coated nanoparticles can enhance the delivery of nanoparticles across the blood–brain–barrier. This study presents the design, preparation, and evaluation of a combination of PLGA nanoparticles (PLGA NPs) loaded with methotrexate (P-MTX NPs) and PLGA nanoparticles loaded with paclitaxel (P-PTX NPs), both of which were surface-modified with poloxamer188. Cranial tumors were induced by implanting C6 cells in a rat model and MRI demonstrated that the tumors were indistinguishable in the two rats with P-MTX NPs + P-PTX NPs treated groups. Brain PET scans exhibited a decreased brain-to-background ratio which could be attributed to the diminished metabolic tumor volume. The expression of Ki-67 as a poor prognosis factor, was significantly lower in P-MTX NPs + P-PTX NPs compared to the control. Furthermore, the biodistribution of PLGA NPs was determined by carbon quantum dots loaded into PLGA NPs (P-CQD NPs), and quantitative analysis of ex-vivo imaging of the dissected organs demonstrated that 17.2 ± 0.6% of the NPs were concentrated in the brain after 48 h. The findings highlight the efficacy of combination nanochemotherapy in glioblastoma treatment, indicating the need for further preclinical studies.

Abstract Background Dengue fever (DF) is one of the most prevalent arboviral infections worldwide. In Iran, the dengue-positive serological cases as well as the presence of the dengue vector Aedes aegypti have raised health concerns, highlighting the need to enhance the dengue surveillance system. This study aims to assess the knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) of healthcare professionals (HCPs) regarding dengue fever in a large and high-risk region of southeastern Iran. Methods A total of 492 HCPs were recruited using a multi-stage sampling method from May 2022 to July 2023. Data were collected using a self-administered questionnaire. Data analysis was done using independent t-tests, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), one-factor and multi-factor general linear models, and simple and multiple regression models. Results About two-thirds (71%) of the participants did not receive any training on DF. A small percentage of participants were familiar with ovitrap (32.6%) and only 21.7% knew that destroying larval breeding sites could not eliminate the dengue vector. The knowledge of disease symptoms among HCPs was found to be lower in border areas compared to non-border areas (P = 0.018). However, the practice situation in HCPs working in border areas was better than in non-borders (P = 0.003). According to the multiple regression model, the most influential factors associated with knowledge, attitude, and practice were the type of healthcare facility and passing the DF training course. Abstract Introduction This study sought to evaluate the cost-effectiveness of baloxavir marboxil compared with oseltamivir or no antiviral treatment from a US payer perspective using data from a real-world US administrative claims study. Given baloxavir’s ability to rapidly stop viral shedding, the potential health economic implications of a baloxavir-induced population-level reduction in viral transmission was also explored. Methods A decision tree cost-effectiveness model was developed for seasonal influenza (2018–2020) using a lifetime time horizon with 3.0% discounting for costs and quality-adjusted life-years (QALYs). Patients aged ≥ 12 years could receive baloxavir, oseltamivir or no antiviral treatment. Patient characteristics, complications, and costs were derived from the Merative™ MarketScan® Research Databases including US commercial claims and Medicare and Medicaid Supplemental databases. A scenario analysis explored the impact of reduced viral transmission with baloxavir. Results In the base case analysis, baloxavir was cost-effective within a willingness-to-pay threshold of US$100,000/QALY compared with oseltamivir [incremental cost-effectiveness ratio (ICER), $6813/QALY gained] or no antiviral treatment (ICER, $669/QALY gained). The net monetary benefit (NMB) of baloxavir was $1180 and $6208 compared with oseltamivir and no treatment, respectively. Abstract Background Dietary diversity refers to the consumption of a variety of foods or food groups over a given reference period, which is crucial for improving nutrition and overall health. This longitudinal study aimed to investigate the association between dietary diversity and anthropometric indices in community-dwelling older adults living in Tehran in 2017 and 2021. Methods The current study was conducted on 368 older adults [204 (55.4%) women and 164 (44.6%) men] over 60 years of age living in Tehran, who were selected by a systematic cluster sampling method at two-time points, 2017 and 2021. Anthropometric measures (weight, height, hip circumference, and waist circumference) were assessed with standard methods. The participants’ dietary intake was assessed by completing two non-consecutive 24-hour recalls, and dietary diversity score (DDS) was calculated based on Kant’s method. The aim of this study was to determine the effectiveness of compassion-focuced therapy on self-blame, distress tolerance, self-conscious emotion and conflict resolution styles in patients with cancer in Isfahan. The method of this research was quasi-experimental with a pretest-posttest design with a control group. The statistical population included all patients with cancer in Isfahan province in 2019 that 30 patients with cancer were selected by convenience sampling and randomly asingment into experimental and control groups (n = 15). Cognitive Emotion Regulation Strategies Questionnaire (Garnefski & Kraaij, 2007), Distress Tolerance Questionnaire (Simons & Gaher, 2005), Self-Conscious Emotion Questionnaire (Tangney, Dearing, Wagner, & Gramzow, 1989), Conflict Resolution Questionnaire (Weeks, 1994), used as a pre-test, then experimental group underwent Compassion- Focuced Therapy in 8 sessions of 90 minutes for two months and the control group did not receive any intervention. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of couple therapy according to Islamic teachings on resilience and happiness of couples. The research method was quasi-experimental with experimental and control groups and the statistical population included all couples referring to clinics in Isfahan in 2016, from which 30 couples were selected as a sample and by available sampling and replace in experimental and control groups (15 peer couples in every group). The instruments used included the Connor & Davidson Resilience Questionnaire (2010) and the Oxford Happiness Questionnaire (Argyle & Lu, 1990). After the pretest, the experimental group underwent couple therapy intervention in 10 sessions of 2 hours, but the control group did not receive any intervention. We aimed to explore the effects of alpha-pinene (AP) as a monoterpene on oxidative damage and inflammation caused by high glucose (HG) in the human hepatocellular liver carcinoma (HepG2) cell line. Objective(s): Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is one of the main causes of infertility in women. This study was conducted to uncover the effects of lupeol as an anti-androgenic triterpene on experimentally-induced PCOS in mice. Materials and Methods: Eighty immature female mice were divided into 4 groups: Control (C), PCOS (P), Lupeol (L), and Flutamide (F). PCOS was induced in test groups by injection of Dehydroepiandrosterone (60 mg/kg/day, IP) for twenty days. Following the PCOS induction, the two groups of L and F were treated with lupeol (40 mg/kg/day) and/or flutamide (10 mg/kg/day) respectively and the two groups of C and P received sesame oil (0.1 ml/mouse/day) for 15 days. Abstract Oral cancers, specifically oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC), pose a significant global health challenge, with high incidence and mortality rates. Conventional treatments such as surgery, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy have limited effectiveness and can result in adverse reactions. However, as an alternative, photodynamic therapy (PDT) has emerged as a promising option for treating oral cancers. PDT involves using photosensitizing agents in conjunction with specific light to target and destroy cancer cells selectively. The photosensitizers accumulate in the cancer cells and generate reactive oxygen species (ROS) upon exposure to the activating light, leading to cellular damage and ultimately cell death. PDT offers several advantages, including its non-invasive nature, absence of known long-term side effects when administered correctly, and cost-effectiveness. It can be employed as a primary treatment for early-stage oral cancers or in combination with other therapies for more advanced cases. Nonetheless, it is important to note that PDT is most effective for superficial or localized cancers and may not be suitable for larger or deeply infiltrating tumors. Light sensitivity and temporary side effects may occur but can be managed with appropriate care. Ongoing research endeavors aim to expand the applications of PDT and develop novel photosensitizers to further enhance its efficacy in oral cancer treatment. Abstract Stem cell therapy (SCT) is a promising solution for addressing health challenges in Africa, particularly non-communicable diseases (NCDs). With their regenerative potential, stem cells have the inherent capacity to differentiate into numerous cell types for tissue repair. Despite infrastructural, ethical, and legal challenges, SCT holds immense promise for managing chronic illnesses and deep-seated tissue injuries. The rising prevalence of NCDs in Africa highlights the need for innovative strategies and treatment options. SCT offers hope in combating conditions like burns, osteoarthritis, diabetes, Alzheimer’s disease, stroke, heart failure and cancer, potentially reducing the burden of NCDs on the continent. Despite SCT’s opportunities in Africa, there are significant obstacles. However, published research on SCT in Africa is scarce, but recent initiatives such as the Basic School on Neural Stem Cells (NSC) express interest in developing NSC research in Africa. SCT research in African regions, notably on neurogenesis, demonstrates a concentration on studying neurological processes in indigenous settings. While progress has been made in South Africa and Nigeria, issues such as brain drain and impediments to innovation remain. Clinical trials have investigated the efficacy of stem cell treatments, emphasising both potential benefits and limitations in implementing these therapies efficiently. Financing research, developing regulatory frameworks, and resolving affordability concerns are critical steps toward realizing the potential of stem cell treatment in Africa.

Abstract Background In the digital age, maintaining patient confidentiality while ensuring effective care coordination poses significant challenges for healthcare providers, particularly nurses. Aim To investigate the challenges and strategies associated with balancing patient confidentiality and effective care coordination in the digital age. Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted in a general hospital in Egypt to collect data from 150 nurses across various departments with at least six months of experience in patient care. Data were collected using six tools: Demographic Form, HIPAA Compliance Checklist, Privacy Impact Assessment (PIA) Tool, Data Sharing Agreement (DSA) Framework, EHR Privacy and Security Assessment Tool, and NIST Cybersecurity Framework. Validity and Reliability were ensured through pilot testing and factor analysis. Results Participants were primarily aged 31–40 years (45%), with 75% female and 60% staff nurses. High compliance was observed in the HIPAA Compliance Checklist, especially in Administrative Safeguards (3.8 ± 0.5), indicating strong management and training processes, with an overall score of 85 ± 10. The PIA Tool showed robust privacy management, with Project Descriptions scoring 4.5 ± 0.3 and a total score of 30 ± 3. The DSA Framework had a mean total score of 20 ± 2, with Data Protection Measures scoring highest at 4.0 ± 0.4. The EHR assessments revealed high scores in Access Controls (4.4 ± 0.3) and Data Integrity Measures (4.3 ± 0.3), with an overall score of 22 ± 1.5. The NIST Cybersecurity Framework had a total score of 18 ± 2, with the highest scores in Protect (3.8) and lower in Detect (3.6). Abstract Amorphotheca resinae is a fungus that particularly corrodes aeronautical aluminum alloys, leading to economic issues in various industries. After 25 days, the 2024 alloy had the highest mycocorrosion rate (1.3417 mpy), while alloy 3105 had an undetectable value on this day. According to the EIS test, the 3105 alloy had the highest level of resistance (1.12 × 105 Ω cm2) to corrosion, while the 2024 alloy was the most susceptible (7138 Ω cm2). The qualitative data from SEM, CLSM, and 3D profilometry also confirmed the quantitative findings where the surface pits on the 2024 alloy were deeper than those of other alloys. Overall, the results showed that the lowest and highest corrosion rates mediated by A. resinae belonged to 3105 and 2024 alloys, respectively. These findings could have significant implications for industries that use aluminum alloys and might help in developing strategies to prevent or control biocorrosion.

Abstract The beekeeping industry plays a crucial role in local economies, contributing significantly to their growth. However, bee colonies often face the threat of American foulbrood (AFB), a dangerous disease caused by the Gram-positive bacterium Paenibacillus larvae (P. l.). While the antibiotic Tylosin has been suggested as a treatment, its bacterial resistance necessitates the search for more effective alternatives. This investigation focused on evaluating the potential of bee venom (BV) and silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) as antibacterial agents against AFB. In vitro treatments were conducted using isolated AFB bacterial samples, with various concentrations of BV and Ag NPs (average size: 25nm) applied individually and in combination. The treatments were administered under both light and dark conditions. The viability of the treatments was assessed by monitoring the lifespans of treated bees and evaluating the treatment's efficiency within bee populations. Promising results were obtained with the use of Ag NPs, which effectively inhibited the progression of AFB. Moreover, the combination of BV and Ag NPs, known as bee venom/silver nanocomposites (BV/Ag NCs), significantly extended the natural lifespan of bees from 27 to 40 days. Notably, oral administration of BV in varying concentrations (1.53, 3.12, and 6.25 mg/mL) through sugary syrup doubled the bees' lifespan compared to the control group. The study established a significant correlation between the concentration of each treatment and the extent of bacterial inhibition. BV/Ag NCs demonstrated 1.4 times greater bactericidal efficiency under photo-stimulation with visible light compared to darkness, suggesting that light exposure enhances the effectiveness of BV/Ag NCs. The combination of BV and Ag NPs demonstrated enhanced antibacterial efficacy and prolonged honeybee lifespan. These results offer insights that can contribute to the development of safer and more efficient antibacterial agents for maintaining honeybee health.

Abstract Background Recurrent dehydration causes chronic kidney disease in humans and animal models. The dromedary camel kidney has remarkable capacity to preserve water and solute during long-term dehydration. In this study, we investigated the effects of dehydration and subsequent rehydration in the camel's kidney histology/ultrastructure and changes in aquaporin/solute carrier proteins along with gene expression. Results In light microscopy, dehydration induced few degenerative and necrotic changes in cells of the cortical tubules with unapparent or little effect on medullary cells. The ultrastructural changes encountered in the cortex were infrequent during dehydration and included nuclear chromatin condensation, cytoplasmic vacuolization, mitochondrial swelling, endoplasmic reticulum/ lysosomal degeneration and sometimes cell death. Some mRNA gene expressions involved in cell stability were upregulated by dehydration. Lesions in endothelial capillaries, glomerular membranes and podocyte tertiary processes in dehydrated camels indicated disruption of glomerular filtration barrier which were mostly corrected by rehydration. The changes in proximal tubules brush borders after dehydration, were accompanied by down regulation of ATP1A1 mRNA involved in Na + /K + pump that were corrected by rehydration. The increased serum Na, osmolality and vasopressin were paralleled by modulation in expression level for corresponding SLC genes with net Na retention in cortex which were corrected by rehydration. Medullary collecting ducts and interstitial connective tissue were mostly unaffected during dehydration. CKD, a chronic nephropathy induced by recurrent dehydration in human and animal models and characterized by interstitial fibrosis and glomerular sclerosis, were not observed in the dehydrated/rehydrated camel kidneys. The initiating factors, endogenous fructose, AVP/AVPR2 and uric acid levels were not much affected. TGF-β1 protein and TGF-β1gene expression showed no changes by dehydration in cortex/medulla to mediate fibrosis. KCNN4 gene expression level was hardly detected in the dehydrated camel's kidney; to encode for Ca + + -gated KCa3.1 channel for Ca + + influx to instigate TGF-β1. Modulation of AQP 1, 2, 3, 4, 9 and SLC protein and/or mRNAs expression levels during dehydration/rehydration was reported. Conclusions Long-term dehydration induces reversible or irreversible ultrastructural changes in kidney cortex with minor effects in medulla. Modulation of AQP channels, SLC and their mRNAs expression levels during dehydration/rehydration have a role in water conservation. Cortex and medulla respond differently to dehydration/rehydration.

Abstract Background Worldwide, a significant number of girls become mothers during adolescence. In Bangladesh, adolescent childbirth is highly prevalent and has adverse effects on children’s health and undernutrition. We aimed to identify the relationship between the undernutrition of children and adolescent motherhood, the factors associated with adolescent mothers’ age at first birth, and to examine the programmatic factors and gaps influencing children’s undernutrition in Bangladesh. Methods We analysed the ‘Bangladesh Demographic and Health Survey’ BDHS-17-18 data and desk review. To examine the factors associated with adolescent motherhood and its impact on child undernutrition, data from 7,643 mother-child pairs were selected. Child stunting, wasting, and underweight were measured according to the World Health Organisation (WHO) median growth guidelines based on z-scores − 2. Univariate, bivariate, simple, and multiple logistic regressions were used for analyse. We followed the systematic procedures for the literature review. Results Approximately, 89% of adolescents aged ≤ 19 years were married and 71% of them gave their first childbirth. Children of adolescent mothers (≤ 19 years) were significantly 1.68 times more wasted (aOR: 1.68; 95% CI: 1.08 to 2.64), 1.37 times more underweight (aOR: 1.37; 95% CI: 1.01 to 1.86) and either form 1.32 times more stunting, wasting or underweight (aOR:1.32; 95% Cl: 1.05 to 1.66) compared to the children of adult mothers (> 19 years) after adjusting potential confounders. The factors associated with mothers’ first childbirth during adolescence were the age gap between husband and wife 5–10 years (aOR: 1.81; 95% Cl: 1.57–2.10) and age gap > 10 years (aOR: 2.41; 95% Cl: 1.96–2.97) compared with the age group

Adherence to treatment is crucial for effective management.Objective: To compare clinical outcomes, specifically changes in haemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) and fasting blood sugar (FBS) levels, between DM patients who completed the pharmacist-managed Diabetes Medication Therapy Adherence Clinic (DMTAC) sessions and those who did not, and to identify risk factors associated with non-completion of DMTAC.Methods: This multicenter, retrospective study included patients with DM attending DMTAC at five Ministry of Health centers from January 2018 to December 2020. Patients were categorized based on their completion of DMTAC sessions: those who completed at least four sessions and those who did not as per DMTAC protocol. The changes in HbA1c and FBS levels between the groups were analyzed. Logistic regression was employed to identify risk factors for non-completion of DMTAC.Results: A total of 198 patients were included, comprising 49% male with a mean age of 56.52, ± 12.91 years. The complete group consisted of 49% (n=99) of the patients, while the did not complete group included 50.5% (n=100). A statistically significant reduction in FBS levels from initial to final measurements was observed in the complete group compared to the did not complete group (P=0.024). Female gender, higher education levels, and a longer duration since DM diagnosis were significantly associated with non-completion of DMTAC.Conclusion: Diabetic patients attending at least four DMTAC sessions showed potential improvements in FBS levels. To enhance attendance at DMTAC sessions, healthcare professionals should focus on patients identified with risk factors for non-completion of DMTAC.Keywords: pharmacist-managed clinic, glycemic control, HbA1c, medication adherence, type 2 diabetes mellitus

Abstract Diabetes poses a significant global health burden, demanding safe and effective therapeutic interventions. Medicinal plants offer promising avenues for natural diabetic management. Galega officinalis (goat's rue) has long been recognized for its hypoglycemic potential, but optimizing its phytochemical content and antidiabetic activity remains a key challenge. This study aimed to address this aspect by investigating the impact of foliar application of chitosan and salicylic acid on the physiological and phytochemical properties of G. officinalis, and subsequently evaluating its antidiabetic efficacy compared to that of the established drug metformin. A randomized complete block design with three replications was employed. Laboratory mice were divided into treatment groups receiving G. officinalis extract from plants sprayed with four salicylic acid concentrations (0.5–3 mM/L) and four chitosan concentrations (0–0.8 g/L). Blood glucose levels and various physiological parameters were assessed. Chitosan at 0.4 g/L and salicylic acid at 2 mM significantly enhanced the growth, photosynthetic pigments, and antioxidant activity of G. officinalis. Notably, the extract from plants treated with 3 mM salicylic acid exhibited the highest total alkaloid content, a potential contributor to antidiabetic activity. In a separate study, diabetic mice treated with this optimized G. officinalis extract (50 mg/kg) exhibited significantly greater blood glucose reductions compared to those treated with metformin (500 mg). This study demonstrates the potential of chitosan and salicylic acid in optimizing the beneficial properties of G. officinalis. The extract derived from plants treated with 3 mM salicylic acid displayed superior blood glucose‐lowering efficacy compared to metformin, suggesting its promising role as a potential natural antidiabetic therapy. Further research is warranted to elucidate the specific bioactive compounds responsible for this enhanced activity and translate these findings into clinical applications.

Abstract Digital watermarking of images is an essential method for copyright protection and image security. This paper presents an innovative, robust watermarking system for color images based on moment and wavelet transformations, algebraic decompositions, and chaotic systems. First, we extended classical Charlier moments to quaternary Charlier moments (QCM) using quaternion algebra. This approach eliminates the need to decompose color images before applying the discrete wavelet transform (DWT), reducing the computational load. Next, we decompose the resulting DWT matrix using QR and singular value decomposition (SVD). To enhance the system's security and robustness, we introduce a modified version of Henon's 2D chaotic map. Finally, we integrate the arithmetic optimization algorithm to ensure dynamic and adaptive watermark insertion. Our experimental results demonstrate that our approach outperforms current color image watermarking methods in security, storage capacity, and resistance to various attacks, while maintaining a high level of invisibility.

Abstract Background First- and second-generation anti-epithelial growth factor receptor tyrosine kinase inhibitors have shown great efficacy in the treatment of advanced adenocarcinoma with epithelial growth factor receptor mutations, but this efficacy is limited by certain resistance mechanisms, in particular the T790M mutation, which must be screened before second-line treatment with osimertinib is indicated. The search for this mutation is sometimes difficult, especially in cases of intracranial relapse, through this case report we attempt to discuss the possibility of initiating treatment with osimertinib despite an unknown T790M mutation in such situation. Case report We present the case of a 70-year-old Moroccan male patient diagnosed with non-small cell lung carcinoma initially metastatic to the pleura with an epithelial growth factor receptor mutation who received gefitinib in first line with a complete response, he subsequently presented with cerebral oligo-progression with extra cranial stability. The patient was started on osimertinib with unknown T790M status, as it was impossible to perform a cerebral biopsy, the evolution was characterized by a partial response followed by stereotactic radiotherapy then a complete response for 2 years. Conclusion We can discuss osimertinib as an option for patients with stage IV non-small cell lung cancer with brain oligo-progression on prior tyrosine kinase inhibitors and unknown T790M status, further studies are needed in this area.

Abstract Although many desalination plants have been built in the countries around the Persian Gulf (PG) over the past decade, there exist crucial water demands in this region. Considering the limited water exchange between PG and the open seas, effluents more than the natural capacity of the PG will increase the sea-water salinity continuously. This excess salinity, in addition to threatening the marine ecosystems, endangers the water supply for many population centers. This study provides a comprehensive numerical analysis of the impact of existing and new desalination plants on the PG’s salinity. In addition, the water residence time and pollutant extension have been investigated in the PG. There exist several concerns, especially in recent years about the probable threat of desalination growth in semi-enclosed seas such as PG. The effect of desalination plants on the mean salinity of PG is one the questions investigated in this research. Results demonstrate that the water residence times in the southern and northwestern regions are more than five years. This time is reduced to nearly 26 to 45 months in the eastern regions near the Strait of Hormuz. Generally, the desalination plants have a negligible effect on the salinity of PG in comparison with the climate conditions such as evaporation and water exchanges. Based on the results, a 50% increase in effluent discharge of existing desalination plants increases the average salinity of the PG by only 0.01 psu. However, the annual volume of net evaporation (that exits the clean water directly) is nearly 36 times more than the effluent discharge from the existing desalination plants. Furthermore, this value is almost 0.2% of the amount of water that enters the PG through the Strait of Hormuz. In spite of these findings, the regional effects can be significant in some parts of the PG. For example, the southern and western coasts of PG are generally more vulnerable to pollution than other areas. The main reason is the shallow water depth in these areas and the water recirculation pattern. Some sensitive local areas have been also addressed in this study. Among the studied regions, the coastlines at the northwest of PG and at the north the Qeshm Island are two susceptible areas. The findings of this study underscore the importance of considering a new integrated viewpoint in developing desalination plants within PG.

Abstract Strong coupling between molecules and confined light modes of optical cavities to form polaritons can alter photochemistry, but the origin of this effect remains largely unknown. While theoretical models suggest a suppression of photochemistry due to the formation of new polaritonic potential energy surfaces, many of these models do not account for the energetic disorder among the molecules, which is unavoidable at ambient conditions. Here, we combine simulations and experiments to show that for an ultra-fast photochemical reaction such thermal disorder prevents the modification of the potential energy surface and that suppression is due to radiative decay of the lossy cavity modes. We also show that the excitation spectrum under strong coupling is a product of the excitation spectrum of the bare molecules and the absorption spectrum of the molecule-cavity system, suggesting that polaritons can act as gateways for channeling an excitation into a molecule, which then reacts normally. Our results therefore imply that strong coupling provides a means to tune the action spectrum of a molecule, rather than to change the reaction.
