Vein of Galen malformation (VGM) is a rare congenital, uncommon intracerebral vascular anomaly rarely complicated with the development of brain abscess as secondary to primary infection or after endovascular treatment. We report a very rare finding of a vein of Galen aneurysm associated with a large brain abscess at the time of diagnosis. A 12-year-old boy with a high-grade fever, severe headache, and recurrent episodes of convulsions came into the radiology department of Kassala Advanced Diagnostic Center. On a Siemens 16-slice scanner, brain non-contrast enhanced computed tomography (NECT) and contrast enhanced CT (CECT) was used to determine the source of the acute headache and convulsions which revealed a right frontal peripherally enhancing cystic lesion measuring 5.7 × 4.7 × 5.3 cm2 surrounded by massive vasogenic edema causing mass effect with midline shift to the left side by 1.5 cm suggestive of brain abscess. There is evidence of another avidly enhancing lesion seen within the third ventricle continuous with a straight sinus surrounded by extensive vascular loops consistent with an aneurysm of the vein of Galen, it was causing compression of the cerebral aqueduct with upstream mild hydrocephalus with dilated both lateral ventricles. Late presentation, diagnosis, and treatment also lead to an increase in the morbidities and mortalities of such case conditions. Urgent intervention should be considered for better outcomes.

Abstract Objective This study aimed to determine the prevalence of polypharmacy, comorbidities and to investigate factors associated with polypharmacy among adult patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). Methods This was a retrospective single-centre cross-sectional study. Patients with a confirmed diagnosis of COPD according to the GOLD guidelines between 28 February 2020 and 1 March 2023 were included in this study. Patients were excluded if a pre-emptive diagnosis of COPD was made clinically without spirometry evidence of fixed airflow limitation. Population characteristics were presented as frequency for categorical variable. Logistic regression analysis was used to identify predictors of polypharmacy. Results The study sample included a total of 705 patients with COPD. Most of the study sample were males (60%). The mean age of the study population was 65 years old. The majority of the study population had comorbid diseases (68%), hypertension and diabetes were the most common co-existent diseases. Around 55% of the study sample had polypharmacy. Females were significantly less likely to be on polypharmacy compared to males (OR = 0.68, 95% CI = [0.50–0.92], P-value = 0.012)). On the other hand, older patients aged 65.4 or more (OR = 2.31, 95% CI = [1.71–3.14], P-value ≤ 0.001), those with high BMI (≥ 29.2) (OR = 1.42, 95% CI = [1.05–1.92], P-value = 0.024), current smokers (OR = 1.9, 95% CI = [1.39–2.62], P-value ≤ 0.001), those who are receiving home care (OR = 5.29, 95% CI = [2.46–11.37], P-value ≤ 0.001), those who have comorbidities (OR = 19.74, 95% CI = [12.70–30.68], P-value ≤ 0.001) were significantly more likely to be on polypharmacy (p ≤ 0.05). Conclusions Polypharmacy is common among patients with COPD. Patients with high BMI, previous ICU hospitalization and older age are more likely to have polypharmacy. Future analytical studies are warranted to investigate outcomes in patients with COPD and polypharmacy.

Abstract The newly recorded Phyllymenia gibesii in the Mediterranean Sea at Alexandria coast of Egypt is regarded as a significant source of bioactive substances and is applied as an antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial agent. According to the HPLC chromatograms, the acetone extract of P. gibesii comprised ten photosynthetic pigments (chlorophyll-a, chlorophyll-d, α-carotene, β-carotene, phycocyanin, allophycocyanin, antheraxanthin, β-cryptoxanthin, lutein, and violaxanthin). Total carotenoids were the dominant class in the pigments’ profile, achieving a concentration of 257 g/g dry weight. The P. gibbesii extract had a total content of phenols (146.67 mg/g) and a total content of flavonoids (104.40 mg/g). The capacity of all the investigated biological activities augmented with the concentration of the algal extract. The maximal DPPH scavenging capacity was 81.44%, with an inhibitory concentration (IC50) of 9.88 μg/mL. Additionally, the highest ABTS scavenging capacity was 89.62%, recording an IC50 of 21.77 μg/mL. The hemolytic activity of P. gibbesii attained a maximum capacity of 49.88% with an IC50 of 100.25 μg/mL. Data also showed the maximum anti-inflammatory effectiveness at 81.25%, with an IC50 of 99.75 μg/mL. Furthermore, the extract exhibited antimicrobial capacity against all reference strains, particularly at high concentrations (0.1 mg/mL), with the greatest effect on C. albicans and E. coli.

Abstract The present study was designed to investigate the effects of amino acid (histidine and L-Tyrosine) on in vitro maturation (IVM), in vitro fertilization (IVF), cleavage (CR) rates, and in vitro embryonic cultivation (IVC; Morula and Blastocyst stage) in buffaloes. Within two hours of buffalo slaughter, the ovaries were collected and transported to the laboratory. Follicles with a diameter of 2 to 8 mm were aspirated to recover the cumulus oocyte complexes (COCs). Histidine (0.5, 1, and 3 mg/ml) or L-Tyrosine (1, 5, and 10 mg/ml) were added to the synthetic oviductal fluid (SOF) and Ferticult media. The IVM, IVF, CR, and IVC (Morula and Blastocyst) rates were evaluated. The results showed that SOF maturation media containing histidine at 0.5 mg/ml significantly (P ≤ 0.01) improved the oocyte maturation when compared to control and other concentrations. The addition of histidine to FertiCult media at 0.5, 1, and 3 mg/ml did not improve the IVM, IVF, CR, or IVC percentages. However, the embryos in the control group were unable to grow into a morula or blastocyst in the SOF or Ferticult, while addition of L-Tyrosine to the SOF or Ferticult at various concentrations improved IVC (morula and blastocyst rates). There was a significant (P ≤ 0.01) increase in IVM when histidine was added to SOF medium at a concentration of 0.5 mg/ml compared with L-Tyrosine. Also, there were significant (P ≤ 0.01) increases in IVC when L-Tyrosine was added to SOF medium at concentrations of 1 and 10 mg/ml compared with histidine. In conclusion, the supplementation of the SOF and FertiCult with the amino acids histidine and L-Tyrosine improve the maturation rate of oocytes and development of in vitro-produced buffalo embryos.

Abstract Objective This study aims to assess the efficacy of bioceramic (BC) sealer when applied using the single cone technique (SCT), in comparison to AH Plus sealer applied with the cold lateral condensation technique (LCT), concerning their impact on the healing of large-sized periapical lesions in both untreated and retreatment cases. Materials and methods A randomized controlled trial was conducted on 41 patients who had 60 permanent teeth in the maxillary incisors that were accompanied by large-sized periapical lesions. The included teeth were radiographed with cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) images and divided equally into two groups according to the endodontic treatment statute (30 untreated previous cases and 30 retreated cases). Subsequently, teeth received uniform preparation, irrigation, and dressing procedures. Then each group was divided equally according to the used sealer (15 teeth obturated using AH plus sealer with LCT and 15 teeth obturated using BC sealer with SCT). All cases were followed up after 6 and 12 months with CBCT images. Subsequently, the change in periapical lesion diameter (PLD) was observed as an indicator to determine the treatment outcome score. One-way ANOVA and Mann–Whitney U test were used to analyze the PLD changing and scoring the treatment outcome during the follow-up periods. The significance level was set at α = 0.05. Results There were no statistically significant differences between untreated and retreatment cases neither using AH plus sealer with LCT nor BC sealer with SCT regarding changes in PLD in the follow-up periods. Moreover, there were no significant differences between groups regarding treatment outcome scores in the follow-up periods. All groups showed a high success rate. Conclusions Successful treatment was achieved for untreated or retreatment maxillary incisor cases accompanied by large-sized periapical lesions using either BC sealer with the SCT or AH Plus sealer with LCT with a similar high success rate up to 12 months follow-up period.

Abstract Aim To investigate the root number and morphology of the maxillary second molars in the Syrian population besides bilateral symmetry, and the effect of gender. Methods 250 Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) images (140 females, 110 males) were examined by two endodontists. The detailed analysis included the number of roots, the number of canals and their configurations, bilateral symmetry, and relation to gender. The evaluation was made according to Vertucci classification by analyzing the CBCT images at all levels (Axial, Coronal, Sagittal, Oblique, and 3D). The Chi-square statistical analysis was performed to compare the canals’ morphologies and bilateral symmetry in both genders via SPSS. Abstract Background COVID-19 is a global pandemic that has highly impacted the healthcare system and patients, especially patients with epilepsy, due to the fact that the success of their treatment depends on obtaining sustainable access to medical professions, diagnostic services, facilities, and medications. The epidemiology and presence of neuro-pediatric emergencies in the setting of COVID-19 in XXX have not been thoroughly described. This is a barrier to planning and providing quality emergency care within the local health systems. The objective of this study is to provide a comprehensive description of the epidemiology of neurological cases encountered in the pediatric emergency unit. Methods This is a retrospective study to analyze the flow pattern of Emergency Department (ED) visits among pediatric patients with neuro-related complaints. Participants were filtered, and a total of 108,000 visits were reduced to 960 patients with a neurological provisional diagnosis. Patients were grouped into pre- and post-pandemic visits according to their age group. We identified demographic and clinical variables. Results The study included 960 patients with a provisional neurological diagnosis, consisting of 542 (56.5%) males and 418 (43.5%) females. The mean age of admission was 5.29 ± 4.19 years. The majority of patients were triaged as “priority 1—resuscitation” (n = 332, 34.6%), and seizures were the most frequent chief complaint (n = 317, 33.0%). Statistical significance was observed for patients with vascular issues (p = 0.013) during the pre-COVID-19 period after adjusting for odds ratio. The most common outcome was discharge (n = 558, 58.1%). The mean length of stay during the pre-COVID-19 pandemic was 16.48 ± 33.53 h, which was significantly longer compared to a mean length of stay of 7.76 ± 7.27 h during the COVID-19 pandemic (P

Abstract Objective This study aimed to evaluate and compare the efficacies of Papacarie Duo gel, Brix 3000, Selecti-Solve gel, 2.4% sodium hypochlorite gel, and conventional rotary-mechanical method in caries removal and to evaluate the patient comfort. Methods It was a single-blinded, randomized, parallel-group, active-controlled trial with five arms. It was conducted at the Department of Restorative Dentistry and Endodontics, Damascus University. Seventy-five specimens were randomly allocated into five groups: chemomechanical caries removal (CMCR) using Selecti-Solve gel (G1), BRIX3000 (G2), Papacarie DUO gel (G3), or 2.4% sodium hypochlorite gel (G4), and caries excavation using conventional rotary-mechanical method (G5) (control group). The trial considered healthy patients aged 18–40. Permanent molars with class I carious lesions extending to the middle third of dentin with no pulpal and/or periodontal pathology were included. The efficacy of caries removal was considered the primary outcome measure, and the secondary outcome measures were treatment time, volumetric measurement of the cavity, and pain assessment. Results The majority (73.30%) of cases from BRIX3000 and conventional rotary-mechanical method groups showed complete caries removal (p = 0.982). Ti-10%Zr-2%Sn-8%Mo alloy and Ti-10%Zr-2%Sn-8%Ta alloy were manufactured using the technique of powder metallurgy. The corrosion of the two alloys was performed after 1 h, 24 h, and 48 h immersion in 3.5% NaCl solution using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), cyclic polarization (CPP), and the measurement of current over time. EIS (Nyquist and Bode) data indicated that the Ti-10%Zr-2%Sn-8%Ta alloy has higher polarization resistance compared to the Ti-10%Zr-2%Sn-8%Mo alloy. CPP results revealed that the Ti-10%Zr-2%Sn-8%Ta alloy has higher corrosion resistance and lower corrosion currents. The experiments of measuring the change of current over time at 500 mV showed that both the Ti-10%Zr-2%Sn-8%Mo alloy and the Ti-10%Zr-2%Sn-8%Ta alloy do not show pitting corrosion, which confirms the CPP results. Extending the time to 24 h and 48 h increased the corrosion resistance for both alloys. The surface of the alloys after being corroded in NaCl solution were investigated using scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive spectroscopy. All investigations confirmed that the Ti-10%Zr-2%Sn-8%Ta alloy is more passivated than the Ti-10%Zr-2%Sn-8%Mo alloy and the increase of exposure time to 48 h enhances the passivation of both alloys, which recommends that these alloys are best choice in the biomedical applications.

Composite materials play a crucial role in various industries, with plastic composites being particularly significant. This research specifically focuses on producing cotton fabric layers to reinforce polymeric composites. The experiment is designed in two phases. In the first stage, woven fabric is produced using roving as weft insertion instead of the conventional threads or spun yarns. This modification enhances the absorbency of the resin matrix during composite production, leading to improved properties. The second stage of the experiment involves manufacturing composite materials using different fabric structures (plain, twill, and sateen) and varying numbers of fabric layers (1, 3, and 5). This is achieved through a novel process called Vacuum Assisted Resin Transfer Molding (VARTM), which is used for fabric composites instead of the traditional laminated composites. VARTM offers advantages in terms of production efficiency and composite quality. To evaluate the physical and mechanical properties of the resulting composites, several tests are conducted. These include tensile properties testing, bending rigidity testing, measurement of composite thickness, and determination of density. The test results provide valuable insights into the performance of fabric composites under different conditions. Furthermore, the experimental results are compared with simulations conducted using the Finite Element Method (FEM) through COMSOL software. The agreement between the experimental and simulated results confirms the reliability of the proposed approach.

Wellbore instability has become an increasing concern for horizontal and extended-reach wells, especially through shale cap rocks. This paper presents a comprehensive analysis of the factors that led to the wellbore being unstable in the Tanuma Formation, the Nasiriyah oilfield in southern Iraq. By constructing a mechanical earth model using open-hole wireline data from two drilled wells. Mohr-Coulomb, Mogi-Coulomb, and Modified Lade failure criteria are used to analyze the breakouts and determine the density of mud that is required for a safe wellbore wall. The results indicated that the Mogi-Coulomb criterion is more similar to the actual well failure than the other two criteria. The wellbore instability findings showed that the most stable wells are those that are vertical and have a low deviated angle (less than 10°), and it is advised that these wells be drilled with a mud weight of 11.3 to 14 ppg. The acceptable range for the weight of the mud for horizontal and greatly deviated wells is between 11.9 and 13.8 ppg. Consequently, the future wells development plan for the studied region is improved and leads to cost reductions.

Abstract Background Castanea sativa Mill. is important for ecosystems and societies. Its rich historical and cultural significance, remarkable ecological contributions, and diverse applications have inspired scientific research. This comprehensive review and conceptual mapping of chestnut research consolidates existing knowledge, identifies emerging trends, and highlights untapped potential to inform future investigations. First, the Scopus database was searched to retrieve all data-driven articles in English related to C. sativa published in English from 1951 to 2023. Second, the R language, Scopus Analytics, and VOSviewer were used to analyze the year of publication, authors, countries, affiliations, keywords, and citations. Finally, network analysis was performed to evaluate the hotspots and developmental trends of C. sativa. A total of 1889 research articles were recovered. Results The articles showed an exponential progression, with a regression coefficient of 0.9435 (R2) and an annual growth rate of 6.28%. Italy (19.87%), Spain (15.56%), Portugal (13.39%), Turkey (6.92%), and Switzerland (5.17%) were the most prolific countries. C. sativa (798), sweet chestnut (54), cryphonectria parasitica (44), honey (38), phenolic compounds (35), chestnut blight (33) and antioxidant activity (31) are the keywords that occur the most frequently. The main research groups in the thematic map are "forest management," "Cryphonectria parasitica," "wood," "Spain" and "ethnobotany." Research on C. sativa has all the basic, motor, niche, and emerging or declining themes. Forest management, drought, Gnomoniopsis smithogilvyi, C. sativa shells, amino acids, honey, phenolic compounds, hydrolyzable tannins, antioxidant capacity, antioxidants, and extractives are trending topics. Conclusions This bibliometric analysis highlights the importance of C. sativa research, revealing its ecological contributions, cultural significance, and diverse applications. Future studies should focus on forest management, drought resistance, and bioactive properties to ensure sustainable utilization.

Abstract Background The importance of high-resolution computed tomography (HRCT) in the diagnosis of idiopathic interstitial pneumonia (IIP) is being recognized more and more. Pulmonary arterial hypertension is common in patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, the presence of PAH is linked to higher mortality rates and might explain why some people who otherwise have normal pulmonary function are displaying symptoms of deterioration. The aim of this work was to find out the potency of integration of high-resolution computed tomography (HRCT) scoring system with pulmonary artery systolic pressure (PASP) for ascertaining the disease severity of patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis and to predict the prognosis for proper management, along with incorporation of the key disparity of different HRCT scoring systems for the ILD. Results This prospective study included 80 patients, who came with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. A strong positive correlation (r = 0.989) was noted between total lung zone HRCT score and PASP, pulmonary artery size, grades of dyspnea and PCO2. Nonetheless, total lung zone HRCT score proved to have good correlation and inversely proportional to (r = − 0.71) 6MWT, PO2, SPO2, FVC and FEV1/FVC. We utilized a ROC curve to identify the optimal cutoff value in HRCT scoring systems, for detecting pulmonary hypertension associated with the IPF. The sensitivity and specificity of Warrick score cutoff value was higher compared to that of the HRCT scoring system-based grading scale. Both HRCT scoring systems attained high correlation coefficient factors with various incorporated parameters in the study. Conclusion We can safely say that in order to reveal the severity and prognosis of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, a high-resolution computed tomography scoring system should be incorporated with echocardiography measurement of pulmonary artery systolic pressure —which proved to be the most potent predictive factor; especially when measured after a specific HRCT score cutoff value—followed by (FEV1/FVC), the 6MWT and the severity of dyspnea. Their integration collectively will aid in precise management and follow-up of IPF cases. Both HRCT scoring systems proved to be potent and perfect for short-term interval follow-up, yet the Warrick score was easier and faster to use and attained relatively increased sensitivity and specificity for the cutoff value of the pulmonary hypertension detection compared to the HRCT scoring system-based grading scale.

Abstract This is an interim analysis of the Beta-blocker (Propranolol) use in traumatic brain injury (TBI) based on the high-sensitive troponin status (BBTBBT) study. The BBTBBT is an ongoing double-blind placebo-controlled randomized clinical trial with a target sample size of 771 patients with TBI. We sought, after attaining 50% of the sample size, to explore the impact of early administration of beta-blockers (BBs) on the adrenergic surge, pro-inflammatory cytokines, and the TBI biomarkers linked to the status of high-sensitivity troponin T (HsTnT). Patients were stratified based on the severity of TBI using the Glasgow coma scale (GCS) and HsTnT status (positive vs negative) before randomization. Patients with positive HsTnT (non-randomized) received propranolol (Group-1; n = 110), and those with negative test were randomized to receive propranolol (Group-2; n = 129) or placebo (Group-3; n = 111). Propranolol was administered within 24 h of injury for 6 days, guided by the heart rate (> 60 bpm), systolic blood pressure (≥ 100 mmHg), or mean arterial pressure (> 70 mmHg). Luminex and ELISA-based immunoassays were used to quantify the serum levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines (Interleukin (IL)-1β, IL-6, IL-8, and IL-18), TBI biomarkers [S100B, Neuron-Specific Enolase (NSE), and epinephrine]. Three hundred and fifty patients with comparable age (mean 34.8 ± 9.9 years) and gender were enrolled in the interim analysis. Group 1 had significantly higher baseline levels of IL-6, IL-1B, S100B, lactate, and base deficit than the randomized groups (p = 0.001). Group 1 showed a significant temporal reduction in serum IL-6, IL-1β, epinephrine, and NSE levels from baseline to 48 h post-injury (p = 0.001). Patients with severe head injuries had higher baseline levels of IL-6, IL-1B, S100B, and HsTnT than mild and moderate TBI (p = 0.01). HsTnT levels significantly correlated with the Injury Severity Score (ISS) (r = 0.275, p = 0.001), GCS (r = − 0.125, p = 0.02), and serum S100B (r = 0.205, p = 0.001). Early Propranolol administration showed a significant reduction in cytokine levels and TBI biomarkers from baseline to 48 h post-injury, particularly among patients with positive HsTnT, indicating the potential role in modulating inflammation post-TBI. Trial registration: ClinicalTrials.gov NCT04508244. It was registered first on 11/08/2020. Recruitment started on 29 December 2020 and is ongoing. Abstract In the modern era, the major problem is solving energy production and consumption. For this purpose, perovskite materials meet these issues and fulfill energy production at a low cost. Density functional theory and the Cambridge Serial Total Energy Package (CASTEP) are used to examine the characteristics of the cubic inorganic perovskites RPbBr3 (R = Cs, Hg, and Ga). In the context of the generalized gradient approximation (GGA), the ultrasoft pseudo-potential plane wave technique and the Perdew–Burke–Ernzerhof exchange–correlation functional are used for investigations. Structural, mechanical, electronics, and optical properties are investigated using CASTEP code. According to structural properties, compounds have a cubic nature with space 221 (Pm3m). Compounds formation energy (− 3.46, − 2.21, and − 3.14 eV)of (CsPbBr3, HgPbBr3, and GaPbBr3) and phonon calculations are studied and find that compounds are stable. The results of our investigation show that the compounds have narrow bandgaps of direct kind, with 1.85 eV for CsPbBr3, 1.56 eV for HgPbBr3, and 1.71 eV for GaPbBr3, respectively, indicating that they may be used to improve conductivity. Additionally, anisotropy (2.135, 3.651, 10.602), Pugh’s ratio (1.87, 2.25, 2.14), and Poison’s ratio (0.27, 0.31, 0.29) are traits that the compounds (CsPbBr3, HgPbBr3, GaPbBr3) display a ductile nature. The CsPbBr3 compound showed significant optical conductivity and absorption in terms of their optical properties, especially in the visible region, which makes them suitable for use in solar cell applications as well as for LED applications.

Objective(s): Hyperglycemia, a prevalent metabolic condition observed in diabetes, leads to oxidative damage, inflammatory responses, and other consequences. Natural compounds alleviate the adverse impacts of diabetes. We aimed to explore the effects of alpha-pinene (AP) as a monoterpene on oxidative damage and inflammation caused by high glucose (HG) in the human hepatocellular liver carcinoma (HepG2) cell line. Materials and Methods: The HepG2 cells were subjected to non or HG concentration (50 mM) and treated with or without AP (8, 16, and 32 μg/ml) for 48 hr. The effect of treatments on cellular viability, malondialdehyde (MDA), glutathione (GSH), and activity of anti-oxidant enzymes, including glutathione peroxidase (GPx), catalase (CAT), superoxide dismutase (SOD), was determined. The gene expression levels of nuclear factor-κβ (NF-κB), tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), interleukin-6 (IL-6), and dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) were estimated using quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR). Abstract Background Recurrent dehydration causes chronic kidney disease in humans and animal models. The dromedary camel kidney has remarkable capacity to preserve water and solute during long-term dehydration. In this study, we investigated the effects of dehydration and subsequent rehydration in the camel's kidney histology/ultrastructure and changes in aquaporin/solute carrier proteins along with gene expression. Results In light microscopy, dehydration induced few degenerative and necrotic changes in cells of the cortical tubules with unapparent or little effect on medullary cells. The ultrastructural changes encountered in the cortex were infrequent during dehydration and included nuclear chromatin condensation, cytoplasmic vacuolization, mitochondrial swelling, endoplasmic reticulum/ lysosomal degeneration and sometimes cell death. Some mRNA gene expressions involved in cell stability were upregulated by dehydration. Lesions in endothelial capillaries, glomerular membranes and podocyte tertiary processes in dehydrated camels indicated disruption of glomerular filtration barrier which were mostly corrected by rehydration. The changes in proximal tubules brush borders after dehydration, were accompanied by down regulation of ATP1A1 mRNA involved in Na + /K + pump that were corrected by rehydration. The increased serum Na, osmolality and vasopressin were paralleled by modulation in expression level for corresponding SLC genes with net Na retention in cortex which were corrected by rehydration. Medullary collecting ducts and interstitial connective tissue were mostly unaffected during dehydration. CKD, a chronic nephropathy induced by recurrent dehydration in human and animal models and characterized by interstitial fibrosis and glomerular sclerosis, were not observed in the dehydrated/rehydrated camel kidneys. The initiating factors, endogenous fructose, AVP/AVPR2 and uric acid levels were not much affected. TGF-β1 protein and TGF-β1gene expression showed no changes by dehydration in cortex/medulla to mediate fibrosis. KCNN4 gene expression level was hardly detected in the dehydrated camel's kidney; to encode for Ca + + -gated KCa3.1 channel for Ca + + influx to instigate TGF-β1. Modulation of AQP 1, 2, 3, 4, 9 and SLC protein and/or mRNAs expression levels during dehydration/rehydration was reported. Conclusions Long-term dehydration induces reversible or irreversible ultrastructural changes in kidney cortex with minor effects in medulla. Modulation of AQP channels, SLC and their mRNAs expression levels during dehydration/rehydration have a role in water conservation. Cortex and medulla respond differently to dehydration/rehydration.

Abstract Although many desalination plants have been built in the countries around the Persian Gulf (PG) over the past decade, there exist crucial water demands in this region. Considering the limited water exchange between PG and the open seas, effluents more than the natural capacity of the PG will increase the sea-water salinity continuously. This excess salinity, in addition to threatening the marine ecosystems, endangers the water supply for many population centers. This study provides a comprehensive numerical analysis of the impact of existing and new desalination plants on the PG’s salinity. In addition, the water residence time and pollutant extension have been investigated in the PG. There exist several concerns, especially in recent years about the probable threat of desalination growth in semi-enclosed seas such as PG. The effect of desalination plants on the mean salinity of PG is one the questions investigated in this research. Results demonstrate that the water residence times in the southern and northwestern regions are more than five years. This time is reduced to nearly 26 to 45 months in the eastern regions near the Strait of Hormuz. Generally, the desalination plants have a negligible effect on the salinity of PG in comparison with the climate conditions such as evaporation and water exchanges. Based on the results, a 50% increase in effluent discharge of existing desalination plants increases the average salinity of the PG by only 0.01 psu. However, the annual volume of net evaporation (that exits the clean water directly) is nearly 36 times more than the effluent discharge from the existing desalination plants. Furthermore, this value is almost 0.2% of the amount of water that enters the PG through the Strait of Hormuz. In spite of these findings, the regional effects can be significant in some parts of the PG. For example, the southern and western coasts of PG are generally more vulnerable to pollution than other areas. The main reason is the shallow water depth in these areas and the water recirculation pattern. Some sensitive local areas have been also addressed in this study. Among the studied regions, the coastlines at the northwest of PG and at the north the Qeshm Island are two susceptible areas. The findings of this study underscore the importance of considering a new integrated viewpoint in developing desalination plants within PG.

Abstract Strong coupling between molecules and confined light modes of optical cavities to form polaritons can alter photochemistry, but the origin of this effect remains largely unknown. While theoretical models suggest a suppression of photochemistry due to the formation of new polaritonic potential energy surfaces, many of these models do not account for the energetic disorder among the molecules, which is unavoidable at ambient conditions. Here, we combine simulations and experiments to show that for an ultra-fast photochemical reaction such thermal disorder prevents the modification of the potential energy surface and that suppression is due to radiative decay of the lossy cavity modes. We also show that the excitation spectrum under strong coupling is a product of the excitation spectrum of the bare molecules and the absorption spectrum of the molecule-cavity system, suggesting that polaritons can act as gateways for channeling an excitation into a molecule, which then reacts normally. Our results therefore imply that strong coupling provides a means to tune the action spectrum of a molecule, rather than to change the reaction.

Objective: In this research, by comparing the features of the Qur'anic manuscripts of the Herat method in the Timurid and Safavid periods, it was seeking to identify the prescription pillars of these Qurans, and based on that, it identified other Qurans whose authorship and artistic style were unknown.Methodology: This research has been carried out in terms of developmental goal and descriptive and analytical method with purposive sampling from among 21000 Quranic manuscripts available in the manuscripts’ treasure of Astan Quds Razavi Library, which is the statistical population of this research. Due to the lack of access to the original sources, the information gathering tool is the library catalogs and the information checklist obtained from the objective Qurans, which is based on the analysis of the bibliographic information of the reference and precious the Qurans of this course.Findings: Based on the characteristics of the scribe's promotion and the bibliographic information of the library catalog from the Timurid period, Quranic booklet 416 and Mushaf No. 153 and from the Safavid period Mushaf No. 281, 206 and 210 from the Herat method were identified as reference and Musahafs. Their bibliographic information was analyzed in a comparative manner and finally it was determined that among all the features and pillars of bibliographic science, four features of the decorations of the Fatiha al-Kitab tablet, the script of the surahs, the decorations accompanying the text of the Quran and the composition of motifs from are the most important features that can be used to identify the Qur'anic manuscripts of this method of art in the researched periods.Conclusion: By studying the findings of the research, it was found that it is possible to identify the Masahifs of the Herat method based on the elements of epistemology. The results of this research determined that: 1) the design of the Fatih al-Kitab surah, these decorations took up more space on the page in the Safavid period, and the margin of the tablet is two-part wide with an azure background and narrow with a black background, and a half-orange is drawn on the margin and the beginning of the surah is in Rafa's script. In the Timurid period, an azure part and a nim- toranj motif are not drawn on the border, and the head of the surah is decorated with Kufic script. 2) The decorations accompanying the Qur'an text, khoms va ‘ashar in the Timurid period are in the form of an almond and a circle, respectively, while in the Safavid period it is in the form of a circle. 3) The composition of motifs, in the Timurid period, is dominated by Islamic motifs and Roman motifs, but in the Safavid period, alvan Khatai motifs were drawn.

Background: Death certification is an integral part of physician practice, yet common errors are being encountered from this vital source of health information. Most medical training programs lack formal curricula for this important skill. Accurate information from DC will help in improve our mortality data which can be use public health purposes Objectives: This study evaluated the effect of a multifaceted educational intervention on accuracy of completing death certification in a tertiary-based paediatric residency program Method: A pre-post intervention and control cohort study over 12- month period to assess the effect of our multifaceted intervention accuracy rate of completed DC was conducted. The intervention consisted of a 3-part program (distribution of educational material, presentation by a skilled instructor, skills workshop, and clinical mortality/auditing feedback sessions). Primary outcome was the difference in scores preand post-intervention and also the rate of accuracy on the MAHI death certificate scoring system. Results: The mean score before the intervention was 6.8±2.7 and 7.1±2.3 in both the intervention and control cohorts respectively. The mean score after the intervention was 16.3±2.5 and 7.3±2.8 in both the intervention and control cohorts respectively indicating an increase in scores. The mean difference in pre- and post-tutorial scores was significant (t=20.39, p=0.0001). Conclusions: We found that using a multifaceted educational intervention to train junior physicians on how to correctly complete a DC was effective in a residency-based pediatric program

Background: Although milk is nutritionally valuable, it also serves as a significant medium for the transmission of pathogens and their toxins. Aim: This study aimed to investigate the role of enterotoxin gene A (SEA) in the development of bovine mastitis. We accomplished this by examining milk through PCR testing, amino acid substitution analysis, and phylogenetic analysis. Methods: A total of fifty milk samples collected from locally bred dairy cows in Al-Diwaniyah, located in southern Iraq. We employed the VITEK-2 platform to validate the diagnosis of S. aureus and confirming the results of routine tests (culturing and biochemical tests). Subsequently, the genetic mutation and phylogeny analysis were achieved utilizing DNA sequencing to 16S rRNA and enterotoxin A genes. Results: 66% (33/50) of the milk samples found to be contain S. aureus by the VITEK-2 system. Furthermore, 25/33 of the samples were positive by the PCR test. While 60% (15 out of 25) tested positive for the SEA gene. After genomic analysis, we identified amino acid substitutions of serine, glutamine with arginine, tyrosine with cysteine, and aspartic acid with glycine at positions 9, 101, 119, 187, and 191. The phylogenetic investigation demonstrated a genetic relationship between our isolates (Iraqi isolates) and isolates from Indian and the United States. Conclusion: Our study indicated the widespread distribution of the enterotoxin gene A (SEA) of S. aureus among dairy cows. The molecular study revealed significant changes in key amino acids that could play an important role in the bacterium's pathogenesis. The phylogenetic similarities among S. aureus samples from various countries suggest that the bacteria has spread globally. [Open Vet J 2024; 14(7.000): 1644-1657]

Abstract Purpose The Moraxella species is a very uncommon pathogen that leads to microbial keratitis (MK). This study aimed to evaluate the clinical features, predisposing factors, and outcomes of Moraxella keratitis in patients of a tertiary eye hospital. Methods This retrospective study was conducted from 2015 to 2022, on patients who were admitted with the diagnosis of Moraxella keratitis confirmed by positive culture in a referral eye hospital. Demographics, predisposing factors, best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA), and prognosis were assessed. Results A total of 106 individuals diagnosed with Moraxella keratitis, were analyzed. The mean age was 54.42 ± 19.43 years. The mean baseline BCVA of the patients was 2.28 ± 0.6 LogMAR, while this amount reached 1.49 ± 0.81 in the 6-month follow-up (P-value = 0.02). The mean BCVA in the six-month follow-up of the patients who needed surgical interventions was significantly lower than the patients who received only medical treatment (2.15 ± 0.65 vs. 1.29 ± 0.75 LogMAR, P-value = 0.02). Patients with diabetes and those without diabetes did not substantially vary in the prevalence of corneal perforation (P-value = 0.515). Three predisposing factors including corneal perforation (odds ratio = 19.27, P-value = 0.001), hypertension (HTN) (odds ratio = 3.62, P-value = 0.03), and older age (odds ratio = 1.03, P-value = 0.008) were significantly associated with more need for surgical interventions. Conclusion In this cohort, poor prognosis necessitating surgical interventions in Moraxella keratitis was found to be associated with corneal perforation, HTN, and older age.

However, data regarding the association between hypertension and hemoglobin/anemia among adults are few and controversial. Therefore, the current study aimed to investigate the associations between hemoglobin/anemia and hypertension among Sudanese adults.Methods: A community-based cross-sectional study was conducted in Northern Sudan from September to December 2022. The participants’ sociodemographic characteristics were assessed using a questionnaire. Standardized procedures measured participants’ weight, height, body mass index (BMI), hemoglobin, and hypertension. Multivariate regression analysis was performed to determine the association between anemia and hypertension.Results: Three hundred eighty-four adults were enrolled; 195 (50.8%) and 189 (49.2%) were males and females, respectively. The median interquartile age of the enrolled adults of age, BMI, and hemoglobin level was 45.0 (33.0‒55.8) years, 26.6 (22.6‒30.6) kg/m2, and 13.4 (12.4‒14.4) g/dl, respectively. Of 384 adults, 216 (56.3%) had hypertension, and 148 (38.5%) were newly diagnosed hypertensive. Eighty-six adults (22.4%) had anemia. In univariate analysis, while increasing age, being female, being unmarried, having a positive family history of hypertension, and increasing BMI were positively associated with hypertension, anemia was inversely associated with hypertension. Education, occupation, cigarette smoking, and alcohol consumption were not associated with hypertension. In multivariate analysis, age (adjusted odd ratio [AOR] = 1.05, 95% confidence interval [CI] = 1.03‒1.07), BMI (AOR= 1.07, 95% CI = 1.03‒1.12) were inversely associated with hypertension, being female (AOR = 2.92, 95% CI = 1.43‒5.94), positive family history of hypertension (AOR= 1.73, 95% CI = 1.09‒2.75), and hemoglobin level (AOR= 1.34, 95% CI = 1.12‒1.61) were associated with hypertension. Anemia (AOR = 0.58, 95% CI = 0.34‒0.99) was inversely associated with hypertension.Conclusion: Both anemia and hypertension are major public health problems in Northern Sudan. Anemia is associated with hypertension. Ascaridia species are the most common nematodes infecting pigeons. The current study investigated specific identity of nematode parasites collected from domestic pigeons (Columba livia domestica) in Al-Qassim Region, Saudi Arabia. Out of 354 pigeons, 13.3 % were infected with nematode parasites. The morphological structure and genetic relationship of nematode worms were studied using conventional methods (Light and scanning electron microscopes) coupled with the newly introduced molecular method. Microscopical and ultrastructure observations showed that the present nematode worms belong to the genus Ascaridia and have all the characteristic features of Ascaridia columbae. Moreover, Random Amplifier morphometric (RAPD) PCR analysis revealed that the present A. columbae had a close identity of up to 98.3 % to Ascaridia columbae JX624729 for Cox-1 gene regions, and up to 98.3 % to Ascaridia nymphii LC057210, and Ascaridia galli EF180058 for ITS1-5.8s- ITS2 rDNA gene regions. Phylogenetic analysis supported the placement of this Ascaridia species within Ascaridiidae family with close relationships to other nematode species obtained from GenBank. Finally, our study recommends using molecular analysis in helminths identification as the main methodology for correct identification especially in closely related species.

In this study, the benefits and feasibility of incorporating Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) into Flexible pavement were evaluated. The study aims to identify new ideas on recycling plastic wastes and thereby improving overall sustainability. The Samples were prepared by adding PET with an increasing concentration level along with optimum asphalt content with a percentage by weight of 3.5%, 4.0%, 4.5%, 5.0%, 5.5% and 6%. Multiple tests were conducted on Natural aggregates including Resistance to degradation of aggregates by Abrasion and Impact, Specific Gravity and Abrasion of coarse aggregates, and Impact Value of Aggregates. Similarly, the tests conducted on asphalt include the specific gravity of semi-solid bituminous material, the ductility of bituminous material, the flash point and softening point of asphalt, and the penetration grade of bituminous material. Rutting potential of the optimum asphalt, Plastic mix Was evaluated by increasing the frequency of load cycles from 0 to 5000 cycles. Furthermore, the effect of asphalt and plastic content on the density, Flow, voids, and stability were also analysed. It was found that the addition of PET resulted in improved stability by more than 50% specifically 52%, while 70% improvement was observed in flow characteristics of Hot Mix Asphalt. However, a slight change in density was observed. The sample also showed a reduction in rut depth by more than 40% of the mix.

Abstract Background The myeloblastosis (MYB) transcription factor (TF) family is one of the largest and most important TF families in plants, playing an important role in a life cycle and abiotic stress. Results In this study, 268 Avena sativa MYB (AsMYB) TFs from Avena sativa were identified and named according to their order of location on the chromosomes, respectively. Phylogenetic analysis of the AsMYB and Arabidopsis MYB proteins were performed to determine their homology, the AsMYB1R proteins were classified into 5 subgroups, and the AsMYB2R proteins were classified into 34 subgroups. The conserved domains and gene structure were highly conserved among the subgroups. Eight differentially expressed AsMYB genes were screened in the transcriptome of transcriptional data and validated through RT-qPCR. Three genes in AsMYB2R subgroup, which are related to the shortened growth period, stomatal closure, and nutrient and water transport by PEG-induced drought stress, were investigated in more details. The AsMYB1R subgroup genes LHY and REV 1, together with GST, regulate ROS homeostasis to ensure ROS signal transduction and scavenge excess ROS to avoid oxidative damage. Conclusion The results of this study confirmed that the AsMYB TFs family is involved in the homeostatic regulation of ROS under drought stress. This lays the foundation for further investigating the involvement of the AsMYB TFs family in regulating A. sativa drought response mechanisms.

In recent years, the modeling of time-to-events has emerged as a highly promising and dynamic research area. This field has witnessed a surge of research studies dedicated to developing novel statistical methodologies aimed at effectively handling time-to-event phenomena. These studies are motivated by the increasing recognition of the importance of time-related factors in various fields such as medicine, epidemiology, finance, and engineering. Researchers have been actively engaged in proposing innovative approaches to address the complexities associated with time-to-event data. The overarching goal is to enhance our understanding of event occurrence and duration, enabling more accurate predictions and informed decision-making. This research encompasses a wide range of topics, including survival analysis, reliability modeling, and event prediction. The motivation behind these research efforts stems from the need to overcome traditional limitations in time-to-event analysis and to explore new avenues for modeling and interpretation. By introducing advanced statistical techniques, researchers seek to capture the intricate dynamics of event processes, considering factors such as censoring, competing risks, and time-varying covariates. The proliferation of research studies in this domain reflects a collective effort to push the boundaries of statistical modeling and analysis, paving the way for more comprehensive and robust methodologies. As researchers continue to delve deeper into the intricacies of time-to-event data, the impact of these advancements extends to diverse applications, ultimately fostering innovation and progress across interdisciplinary fields. This paper adopts and implements a new statistical approach to propose a family of flexible distributions, namely, a new generalized-O family of distributions. For the newly obtained family, certain mathematical properties such as identifiability, quantile function, rth non-central moment, Lorenz curve, incomplete moments, and the expression of the Bonferroni curve are obtained. Furthermore, an extension of the Weibull model is introduced using the newly developed approach, namely, a new generalized Weibull model. The parameters of the new generalized version of the Weibull model are estimated by adopting a well-known estimation approach. Finally, a data set consists of sixty (60) observations representing the times of the survival of some patients infected by the COVID-19 epidemic is analyzed to illustrate the new generalized Weibull model.

It is essential to use compound families in statistical modeling for asymmetric-positive-skewed reliability and relief in real-life data for a number of reasons, including the capacity to capture underlying patterns and characteristics in the data more accurately. The current work introduces a novel compound and continuous G family of probability distributions characterized by two parameters, denoted as the compounded two-parameters general Rayleigh geometric family of probabilistic distributions. The research involves rigorous calculations to ascertain and analyze the relevant mathematical properties of this newly proposed family. We present aging notions under the new family, providing corresponding density, hazard, and survival functions. Notably, a specific emphasis is placed on the examination of the reciprocal-Weibull baseline model, both from a mathematical and statistical perspective, in a dedicated section of the study. To generate various multivariate and bivariate type distributions, the copula method is employed. These newly derived models hold significant utility for effectively modeling the multivariate and bivariate data. The study showcases the wide applicability in different sides under real-life datasets. The presented applications serve as concrete demonstrations of the family's effectiveness and versatility in addressing real-world scenarios.

The interaction between a vehicle's tire and the road surface is pivotal for a driver's control over the vehicle's movements. It serves as the fundamental link between the vehicle and the road. The modeling of tires holds significant importance in contemporary vehicle design, playing a critical role in assessing aspects such as vehicle handling, ride comfort, and road load analysis. This study focuses on investigating the impact of the enveloping behavior characteristics of a pneumatic tire on the performance of a suspension system. The analysis of the vehicle's ride comfort utilizes a half-car model. Unlike a previous model with a single point of contact with the road, the presented suspension system, coupled with a four-degree-of-freedom rigid ring tire model, offers a more precise estimation of both ride comfort and road holding. The primary emphasis of this research lies in the modeling and evaluation of the proposed suspension system's performance. A comprehensive computer model of the entire system is developed using MATLAB software. This work enhances the existing framework by incorporating both a Multi-Objective Genetic Algorithm (MOGA) and a Multi-Objective Particle Swarm Optimization (MOPSO) to optimize the damping and stiffness coefficients of the passive suspension. This approach allows for a detailed comparison of the optimization capabilities and effectiveness of both algorithms in refining vehicle ride comfort. The results from MATLAB simulations highlight performance improvements, and the comparative analysis of MOGA and MOPSO provides insights into the selection of optimization techniques for suspension system design.

Summary: The present study aimed to determine the effects of adding Bacillus megaterium and Bacillus amyloliquefaciens to laying quail diets on performance, egg quality, and internal organ weights. We used 96 laying Japanese quail (Coturnix coturnix Japonica) at 12 wk of age. The birds were divided into 3 treatment groups (32 quails per group), each divided into 8 replicates (4 quails per replicate). The research was carried out in 3 periods of 28 d each. We used 3 diets; the 1st group served as a control group, receiving only a basal diet. The 2nd and 3rd experimental groups received 0.1% (1×109 CFU/g) B. megaterium and B. amyloliquefaciens as an addition to the basal diet, respectively. Adding B. megaterium and B. amyloliquefaciens did not influence the performance parameters statistically. Also, adding B. megaterium and B. amyloliquefaciens significantly (p < 0.05) impacted the albumen index, Haugh unit, and egg yolk compared to the control group. In contrast, the applied Bacillus species did not affect other egg quality parameter values. The addition of B. megaterium and B. amyloliquefaciens did not significantly influence body weight, heart weight, liver weight, gizzard weight, small intestine length, and cecum length among the slaughter parameters examined. Adding 0.1% (1 × 109 CFU/g), of B. amyloliquefaciens to the laying quail diets can be used without causing a significant difference in performance, egg quality characteristics, and visceral weights compared to the control group.

Abstract Aim To determine the occurrence of occupational stress among Palestinian nurses, and their associated sources and risk factors. Design A cross‐sectional descriptive design. Methods A total of 250 registered nurses from eight governmental hospitals, using a convenience sampling method. Data collection were conducted using the 30‐items self‐reported Occupational Stress Scale from December 2022 to March 2023. Descriptive statistics, independent sample t‐test, one‐way ANOVA, and multiple linear regression analysis were applied to analysis data. Data analysis included descriptive statistics, independent sample t‐test, one‐way ANOVA, and multiple linear regression analysis. Results The prevalence of high occupational stress levels was 64.8% (Mean = 3.9 out of 5). The main sources of stress are too much responsibility and work, understaffing, lack of promotion and recognition, inadequate pay, time pressure, and management style. The results regression analysis demonstrated that male nurses with a Masters or PhD degree and those working in fixed shifts experienced higher occupational stress. Moreover, participants who worked overtime hours were more susceptible to stress. Conclusions The research indicates that occupational stress presents a notable challenge for nurses in the Gaza Strip, Palestine. It suggests that in order to alleviate this stress, decision‐makers in healthcare policy and hospital management should prioritize the execution of strategies aimed at addressing the primary stressors and risk factors identified. Reporting Method This study adhered to the STROBE guidelines. Public Contribution A total of 250 registered nurses were taken part in this study by answering a self‐administered study survey.

Background: Melatonin is a peptide neurohormone naturally synthesized in the brain by the pineal gland. The basic function of melatonin is related to the causation and regulation of the sleep–wake cycle (circadian cycle). Cadmium (Cd) is a hazardous heavy metal and its toxic effects induce extensive tissue damage. The present study was undertaken to elucidate the efficiency of exogenous melatonin in attenuating Cd-induced oxidative stress. Methods: The experimental rats were allotted into four groups (n = 20), designated as untreated control, melatonin accessed, Cd exposed, and Cd exposed with access. Results: The hematological and biochemical parameters (serum and tissues) of Cd-exposed rats were significantly altered. Cd-exposed rats that received melatonin demonstrated increased erythrocytic indices; showed significantly increased levels of total proteins, catalase, total thiols, and glutathione; and exhibited decreased levels of blood Cd, urea, creatinine, bilirubin, malondialdehyde, and hydrogen peroxide. Conclusions: It was concluded that melatonin has an efficient antioxidant activity in attenuating oxidative stress induced by Cd.

Global climate conditions and hydrologic processes have changed significantly as a result of climate change, and as long as global warming persists, extreme events will probably more frequently happen. Climate change significantly affects Iraq through variations in air temperature, environment, agriculture and water supply. This study aimed to evaluate the observed period of temperature 19 80–2023 and the Projecting future trends of air temperature for mid and southern Iraq using BNU-ESM, CCSM4, HadGEM2-AO, and MIRIOC5 climate models from CMIP5 under the RCP4.5 and RCP8.5 scenarios during the periods 2016–2035, 2046–2065, and 2081–2100. The findings verified that, in each of the two RCPs scenarios temperature would increase with different levels. the results showed that the temperature anomaly increased to +15.6 °C, and +18.8 °C under RCR4.5 and RCP8.5 in the MIRIOC5 model, especially in the last decade of the twentieth century. The areas of Iraq most impacted by high temperatures are the south and southeast (Basra, Missan, Thi-Qar, and Muthanna) provinces. In the first period, On the other hand, the less effect areas for the temperature increase were (Anbar and northeast of Diyala) +2.4°C, and +4.4°C for HadGEM2-AO model under RCR4.5 and RCP8.5 respectively. Through all periods, CCSM4, and MIRIOC5 models were the most identical in results. The findings can aid in the evaluation of future drought risks in Iraq by policymakers. Developing suitable adaptation techniques to counter act climate change can also be beneficial.

Abstract Introduction This study investigated the possible relationship between the Apo lipoprotein A1 /high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (ApoA1/HDL-C) ratio and coronary artery disease (CAD) in patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D). Methods This was a matched case-control study of 482 patients with T2D in two groups of CAD and (n = 241) non-CAD (n = 241). The patients were classified into four quartiles according to the ApoA1/HDL-C ratio, and multivariate logistic regression analysis was performed to assess the relationship between ApoA1/HDL-C and CAD. ROC analysis was also conducted. Results This study showed that the ApoA1/HDL-C ratio has an independent association with CAD in individuals with T2D. The CAD group exhibited a significantly higher ApoA1/HDL-C ratio than those without CAD (p-value = 0.004). Moreover, the risk of CAD increased significantly across the ApoA1/HDL-C ratio quartiles, with the highest odds in the fourth quartile. The second quartile showed an odds ratio (OR) of 2.03 (p-value = 0.048) compared to the first. Moving to the third quartile, the OR increased to 2.23 (p-value = 0.023). The highest OR was noted in the fourth, reaching 3.41 (p-value = 0.001). Abstract Introduction Mental complications of diabetes are one of the main obstacles to the implementation of self -care behaviors that have been less studied. Therefore, this study was conducted to survey the effective factors in predicting burnout and self-care behaviors among patients with type 2 diabetes. Methods In this Path analysis, 1280 patients with type 2 diabetes were selected from Mashhad (Iran) in 2023 to 2024. Four scales, the mental health literacy (MHL) scale, diabetes burnout scale, diabetes distress scale, and self-care behavior scale were used for data gathering. AMOS software checked the direct and indirect paths between the variables. Results In the path analysis, variables of MHL and diabetes distress predicted 25% variance of diabetes burnout (R2 = 0.25), and diabetes distress (total effect = 0.491) had the greatest impact on predicting diabetes burnout. Variables of MHL, diabetes distress, and diabetes burnout predicted 12% variance of Self-care behaviors (R2 = 0.12) and MHL (total effect = -0.256), age of onset of diabetes (total effect = 0.199), and diabetes burnout (total effect = − 0.167) had the greatest impact on prediction of self-care behaviors. Conclusion MHL could reduce diabetes distress and burnout and eventually promote self-care behaviors among patients with type 2 diabetes. Therefore, screening and identifying psychological problems (such as distress and burnout) and designing interventions to increase MHL can ultimately increase the health of patients with diabetes.

Abstract This study investigates the influence of LDHs (Layered Double Hydroxides) microparticles and steel fibers on the mechanical properties of lightweight concrete. Through a combination of experimental analysis and finite element modeling, the effects of LDHs and steel fibers on flexural strength and crack resistance were evaluated. The experimental results demonstrate a significant increase in flexural strength and toughness with the incorporation of LDHs microparticles and steel fibers. The finite element model corroborates these findings, highlighting the synergistic enhancement of mechanical properties due to LDHs and steel fibers. Additionally, the study discusses the frontier applications of LDHs in improving fracture characteristics and highlights the potential of hybrid reinforcement strategies in lightweight concrete. The findings reveal that both the quantity of microparticles and steel fibers significantly impact the concrete's residual strength. In scenarios without steel fibers, an optimal weight fraction of approximately 1 wt.% LDHs demonstrate a 39% increase in bearing capacity. Notably, under comparable conditions, the influence of LDHs microparticles on enhancing concrete mechanical characteristics appears to surpass the effects induced by steel fibers. However, at 2 wt.% LDHs usage, a decrease in load capacity by 3.3% is observed compared to the 1 wt.% LDHs configuration. This research provides valuable insights into optimizing concrete properties through novel material combinations and paves the way for future advancements in structural engineering.

Abstract Background Bacterial infection plays an important role in persistent periapical lesions and inadequate disinfection of root canals is considered the biggest factor responsible for endodontic treatment failure. Antimicrobial Photodynamic Therapy (aPDT) has become the latest choice to eradicate microorganisms in root canals. Objective This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of Antimicrobial Photodynamic Therapy (aPDT) in bacterial count reduction compared to Passive Ultrasonic Activation (PUI) and Ca(OH)2 dressings. Materials and methods Forty-five anterior single canal teeth with medium-sized periapical lesions (2–5 mm) were divided into three groups according to the disinfecting technique (each group consists of 15 canals with 1:1:1 allocation ratio): Group A: Ca(OH)2 dressing. Group B: Passive Ultrasonic Activation (PUI). Group C: Antimicrobial Photodynamic Therapy (aPDT). Direct bacterial viable count method was used to count the colonies forming units (CFU) before and after the disinfecting and the bacterial count reduction was estimated, the statistical analysis was performed at a 95% confidence level using the Chi-square and Mann–Whitney U test. Abstract In this research, an upgraded and environmentally friendly process involving WO3/Co-ZIF nanocomposite was used for the removal of Cefixime from the aqueous solutions. Intelligent decision-making was employed using various models including Support Vector Regression (SVR), Genetic Algorithm (GA), Artificial Neural Network (ANN), Simulation Optimization Language for Visualized Excel Results (SOLVER), and Response Surface Methodology (RSM). SVR, ANN, and RSM models were used for modeling and predicting results, while GA and SOLVER models were employed to achieve the optimal conditions for Cefixime degradation. The primary goal of applying different models was to achieve the best conditions with high accuracy in Cefixime degradation. Based on R analysis, the quadratic factorial model in RSM was selected as the best model, and the regression coefficients obtained from it were used to evaluate the performance of artificial intelligence models. According to the quadratic factorial model, interactions between pH and time, pH and catalyst amount, as well as reaction time and catalyst amount were identified as the most significant factors in predicting results. In a comparison between the different models based on Mean Absolute Error (MAE), Root Mean Square Error (RMSE), and Coefficient of Determination (R2 Score) indices, the SVR model was selected as the best model for the prediction of the results, with a higher R2 Score (0.98), and lower MAE (1.54) and RMSE (3.91) compared to the ANN model. Both ANN and SVR models identified pH as the most important parameter in the prediction of the results. According to the Genetic Algorithm, interactions between the initial concentration of Cefixime with reaction time, as well as between the initial concentration of Cefixime and catalyst amount, had the greatest impact on selecting the optimal values. Using the Genetic Algorithm and SOLVER models, the optimum values for the initial concentration of Cefixime, pH, time, and catalyst amount were determined to be (6.14 mg L−1, 3.13, 117.65 min, and 0.19 g L−1) and (5 mg L−1, 3, 120 min, and 0.19 g L−1), respectively. Given the presented results, this research can contribute significantly to advancements in intelligent decision-making and optimization of the pollutant removal processes from the environment.

Abstract The northern Red Sea (NRS) is considered an extended continental region that has resulted in a rift system. Gravity and bathymetry data were used to estimate the Moho depth and the elastic thickness Te of the lithosphere beneath the NRS region to characterize its flexural rigidity and understand its mechanical behavior. Focusing on the Mabahiss Deep in NRS, we analyzed the lithosphere's flexural rigidity. The observed long-wavelength positive Bouguer anomaly is attributed to crustal thinning and lithospheric mantle uplift. The crustal thickness varies from 28 km in coastal areas to 24 km beneath the axial rift, supporting a regional compensation model over the Airy model. Forward modeling suggests that the optimal model explaining the regional Bouguer anomaly is a flexural model with Te equal to 7 km, indicating a weak and irregular continental crust. The primary factor contributing to this weakness is heating activity. Given the weakened state of the crust and the ongoing extension in the region, the NRS rift could evolve into a rupture, potentially leading to the formation of oceanic crust.

Abstract Background The effectiveness of alveolar ridge preservation on bone regeneration and tissue healing has been thoroughly documented in the literature. This study aimed to evaluate the peri-implant soft and hard tissue changes after alveolar ridge preservation using either platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) or freeze-dried bone allograft (FDBA) over a 12-month period following the prosthetic loading of implants. Methods In this randomized clinical trial, 40 individuals were recruited for alveolar ridge preservation using (1) FDBA or (2) PRF in incisal/premolar areas. At two follow-up sessions (six- and 12-months post-implant insertion), radiographic imaging and clinical examinations assessed marginal bone loss and soft tissue factors, including gingival recession and bleeding on probing. The differences between study groups were analyzed using Generalized estimating Equations, the Binary logistic regression model, and Cochran’s Q test. Results There was a statistically significant difference regarding gingival recession at both follow-up evaluations; values in the PRF group were considerably lower compared to the FDBA group (p 0.05). Conclusions Except for gingival recession, applying PRF yielded comparable clinical results to FDBA after one year of implant loading and could be recommended as a potential biomaterial for alveolar ridge preservation following tooth extractions. Teachers' professional learning plays an important role in their attempt to change their teaching practices; however, few studies have been conducted on how teachers prepare themselves for the vast initiatives in ameliorating students' outcomes. This study aimed to explore EFL teachers’ perceptions toward their professional learning practices and their professional developmental orientations that contribute to the process of their professional learning. To this end, 30 Iranian EFL teachers selected through purposive sampling participated in this qualitative phenomenological study. The data was collected through semi-structured interviews, focus group interviews, and narrative inquiries to ensure the trustworthiness criteria of the data. The thematic analysis of the data revealed three themes of professional development programs, collaborative learning and experience-based learning. The result showed that only a few teachers were satisfied with the school-based professional learning programs, indicating that revision in the educational system was required to develop teachers’ professional learning. Meanwhile, effective learning occurred through collaboration among the teachers and the mutual learning between teachers and students, hence, leading to participative decision-making and teachers' reflective practice. Overall, participants mentioned students' outcomes as a key level of teachers' professional learning. This study has important implications for policymakers, school administrators, and teacher educators.

Abstract During the last decade, nanotechnology has attained a significant place among the scientific community for the biosynthesis of plant‐based nanoparticles owing to its effective, safe, and eco‐friendly nature. Hence, keeping in view the significance of nanotechnology, the current study was conducted to develop, characterize (UV–visible spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, Fourier‐transform infrared spectroscopy, and energy‐dispersive X‐ray spectroscopy), and assess the antimicrobial (antibacterial and antifungal) properties of Peganum harmala L. Extract‐based Gold (Au) and Silver (Ag) nanoparticles (NPs). Characteristic absorption peaks at 420 and 540 nm revealed the formation of AgNPs and AuNPs, respectively. SEM images revealed that both silver and gold nanoparticles were oval and spherical with average size ranging from 42 to 72 and 12.6 to 35.7 nm, respectively. Similarly, FT‐IR spectra revealed that the functional groups such as hydroxyl, carboxyl, and polyphenolic groups of biomolecules present in the extract are possibly responsible for reducing metallic ions and the formation of nanoparticles. Likewise, the EDX analysis confirmed the presence of silver and gold in synthesized NPs. Furthermore, the AgNPs and AuNPs showed good antibacterial and antifungal activities. The maximum antibacterial and antifungal activity was noticed for P. harmala extract against Pseudomonas aeroginosa (21 mm) and Candida albicon (18 mm), respectively. Whereas, the maximum antibacterial and antifungal activities of synthesized AgNPs were observed against Salmonella typhi (25 mm) and Penicillium notatum (36 mm), respectively. Moreover, in the case of AuNPs, the highest antibacterial and antifungal activity of synthesized AuNPs was noticed against Escherichia coli (25 mm) and C. albicon (31 mm), respectively. Findings of this study revealed that P. harmala extract and biosynthesized NPs (silver and gold) possessed significant antibacterial and antifungal properties against different bacterial (Bacillus subtilis, Staphylococcus aureus, E. coli, P. aeroginosa, and S. typhi) and fungal (C. albicans, Aspergillus Niger, and P. notatum) strains. Further studies must be carried out to assess the probable mechanism of action associated with these antimicrobial properties.

In this paper, the fractional space-time nonlinear Chen-Lee-Liu equation has been considered using various methods. The investigation of the transition from periodic to quasi-periodic behavior has been conducted using a saddle-node bifurcation approach. The paper reports the conditions of multi-dimensional bifurcations of dynamical solutions. Additionally, a direct algebraic method has been used to calculate various 2D and 3D solitonic structures of the equation, and an analysis of their accuracy and effectiveness has been conducted. Furthermore, the Galilean transformation has been used to convert the equation into a planar dynamical system, which is further utilized to obtain bifurcations and chaotic structures. Chaotic structures of perturbed dynamical system are observed and detected through chaos detecting tools such as 2D-phase portrait, 3D-phase portrait, time series analysis, multistability and Lyapunov exponents over time. Further, sensitivity behavior for a range of initial conditions, both perturbed and unperturbed. The results suggest that the investigated equation exhibits a higher degree of multi-stability.

Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is one of the key macroeconomic aggregates that measures the added value produced in a country during a period. In the contemporary world, macroeconomic uncertainty, among others due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the conflict in Ukraine, and GDP prediction remain important goals in public policy making. This study aims to predict Benin's GDP through a unidimensional statistical approach and machine learning techniques. For this purpose, GDP data were collected from the Central Bank of the West African States (BCEAO) website from 1960 to 2021. The predictions are based on comparing classical statistical and machine learning methods. For the classical statistical methods, we investigated the Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average (ARIMA) and Error Trend Seasonality (ETS) forecasting models. As for the machine learning methods, the K-Nearest Neighbors (KNN) and Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) forecasting models proved to be sound. The findings revealed that the statistical models (ARIMA and ETS) better predict Benin's GDP. However, machine learning models (KNN and LSTM) also provide a wide range of results that can be used to analyze Benin's economic growth.

Background: Accurate methods are needed to evaluate the anatomy of the internal nasal valve (INV), yet there is currently no ideal measurement technique. Our systematic review aims to establish a comprehensive INV assessment tool, compare different INV diagnostic tools, and establish the most ideal measurement technique for the evaluation of the INV. Methods: A systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted following the PRISMA guidelines, and the study was recorded in PROSPERO under reference number CRD42023407950. A systematic search was performed in PubMed, MEDLINE, The Cochrane Library (Cochrane Databases of Systematic Reviews), and the Cochrane Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL) for studies assessing INV that were conducted between 1996 and 2023. Result: Of the 421 total database searches, 23 studies were found, covering a total of 974 patients (6 studies assessed the accuracy of different diagnostic methods, with 2 of these studies comparing two different diagnostic modalities, and 17 studies measured INV angle). Based on the STROBE tool for quality appraisal the mean score was 16.92 ± ± 2.29, indicating a moderate quality. When comparing INV angle values from preoperative and postoperative records as obtained from CT readings, results showed no significant differences between the pre- and postoperative values (MD = -1.8, 95% CI, -4.8 to 1.2, p = .227). Conclusion: Acoustic rhinometry has the highest accuracy, followed by rhinomanometry then CT scan then endoscopy. Meta-analysis showed no significant differences between the pre- and postoperative values and a significant heterogeneity in the reported INV angle values across studies.

ABSTRACT: The meat of the quail is one of the most delicious types, as it is rich in minerals and vitamins, especially vitamin K, which is useful in treating nervous diseases. In the present investigation, based on their live body weight, 270 genetically-enhanced white quail chicks of mixed sex were randomly assigned to 3 groups, each with 90 chicks. The first group's birds were slaughtered at 28 d of age. The birds in the second group were slaughtered at 31 d, and the birds in the third group were slaughtered at 34 d. Results showed no significant difference between the various groups in the overall mortality rate index at the end of each fattening stage (P > 0.05). There were substantial variations (P ≤ 0.05) in the average live weight index between the first and both groups at each group's marketing age. With increasing marketing age, body weight increases. Quail chicks raised for 34 d received the lowest EPEF (28.90 points), followed by those raised for 31 d and 28 d, which received 33.37 and 37.32 points, respectively. The economic feasibility of the 3 groups, no significant differences in the profit index were observed at the age of 28 d. Compared to the marketing age of the other 2 groups, it was noted that the profit index decreased as the birds advanced in age. Delaying marketing to 31 d leads to a decrease in profit by 5.7%, and delaying marketing to 34 d reduces the profit index to 26.36% compared to marketing at 28 d. For blood hematology parameters, a significant increase in the studied indicators with the age of the birds was observed through the study of blood indicators. Still, it did not reach the significance level. It could be concluded that 28 d is the ideal marketing age for the enhanced white quails, as it yielded the highest economic return and the best performance.

The extensive approach to reservoir characterization provided by petrophysical characteristics emphasizes the relevance of reservoir quality. The presence of shale, especially in the sandstone formation, causes heterogeneity in petrophysical properties; thus, the estimation of these properties is sophisticated and leads to inaccurate production performance of oil reservoirs. The critical determinants of reservoir quality are shale volume, permeability, water saturation, and porosity. Petrophysical models are applied to the relationship between logging data and rock and fluid parameters. The contribution of the present study is to investigate hydrocarbon production and nonproductive layers using a petrophysical model by applying a cutoff approach in the Subba oil field located in the southern part of Iraq with the Shaly-Sand Nahr Umr formation. This investigation was conducted using well logs data that contained rock response of gamma-ray, density, neutron, resistivity, and cores data. The data was analyzed using Techlog Slb software and Microsoft Excel. After analyzing data and according to the petrophysical model and cutoff findings, four zones (S1, S21, S22, and S23) are potential productive hydrocarbon, while two zones (S24 and S3) are water-bearing; throughout these layers, there are seven barriers’ zones. In addition, the FZI approach gives a successful match for cored permeability. Furthermore, the porosity calculated from the density neutron also gives an acceptable match with cored data. Finally, the cutoff estimation revealed that the porosity cutoff has a value of 0.065 %, water saturation 0.7%, and shale volume 0.35%.
