24. Path Dependence and Market Choice in Industrial Intelligence Development

Abstract

This article investigates the path dependence and market choice challenges encountered during the progression of industrial intelligent development. We propose a novel industrial economic theory framework that incorporates the opportunity cost of intelligent technology. This study also examines the semiconductor industry's typical cases and Germany's Industry 4.0 growth to analyze the path dependence of industrial intelligent development. Through constructing a benefit–payment matrix, the problem of market choice in decision-making related to industrial intelligence is analyzed from the viewpoint of various actors. The findings reveal path dependence in the growth of industrial intelligence, leading to a self-reinforcing tendency toward monopoly. An analysis of the payment matrix demonstrates the variability in market outcomes for technology competitors characterized by constant, decreasing, and increasing returns. This article presents a preliminary investigation of the theoretical basis of smart economics and provides a rationale for the government-led and regulated development of artificial intelligence industries.

26. A study on the moderating role of national absorptive capacity between institutional quality and FDI inflow: evidence from developing countries

Abstract

Numerous studies on foreign direct investment (FDI) as a prime element of capital flow and external finance contribute to foreign physical stock of capital, knowledge spillovers, transfer of technology, and recipient countries’ employment. Developing economies need FDI to boost their economic growth. This study explores the moderating role of national absorptive capacity between FDI inflow and institutional quality (control of corruption, government effectiveness, political stability and the absence of violence, regulatory quality, rule of law, voice and accountability) on a panel of 113 developing countries for 2000–2019. Hausman fixed-effect and random-effect estimation are used in the analysis. The results show that national absorptive capacity (AC) moderates the relationship between FDI inflow and institutional quality dimension. To check robustness, we formed an index of institutional quality (OIQ) dimensions through principal component analysis (PCA) and regressed, demonstrating that AC moderates the relationship between OIQ and FDI. Subsequently, taking BRICSþPakistan as a sample, we find that the results hold. This study will help form FDI-friendly policy in developing countries.

Abstract

The US-China trade war, initiated in March 2018, substantially transformed the trading partnership between the two largest economic powers. It directly influenced the profitability of domestic enterprises related to the export chain and harmed the domestic economy in China and its stock market. This study empirically examines the effects of the trade war on China’s stock market based on chronological events and tests whether it is the contagion effect or the present value effect. The empirical study supports the contagion effect because the impact of the US-China trade war differed significantly in different sectors only when the US announced its imposition of more tariffs on US$50 billion worth of Chinese products. However, there is no apparent difference between the industries for other events, nor is there any significant difference between the industries in terms of long-term impact.

Abstract

Three complexes of formulae [Fe2(L)2Cl4] (1), [Co2(L)2Cl4] (2) and [Ni(L)2Cl2]·CH2Cl2 (3) were synthesized from the reactions of the L ligand (L = 1-chloro-3-(pyridin-2-yl)imidazo[1,5-a]pyridine) with chloride salts of FeII, CoII, and NiII ions under solvothermal conditions. The structures of 1–3 were determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. The binuclear complexes 1 and 2 are isostructural. The two metal ions of each complex show different coordination environments. Complex 3 displays a mononuclear structure. The magnetic properties of 1–3 were studied. Complex 1 exhibits a slow magnetization relaxation behaviour. The catalytic properties of complexes 1–3 toward the OER under basic conditions were studied. They were all catalytically active, and complex 3 showed a higher activity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
