Background: Active transportation (AT), described as self-powered modes of travel (eg, walking and cycling), is an important source of health-promoting physical activity. While AT behaviors have been measured on national health surveys in Canada for over 2 decades, historic prevalence has not been previously reported. We aimed to document the measures of AT on Canada's various national health surveys, examine AT over time, and interpret them within the context of evolving methods of assessment. Methods: We compiled and summarized the questions used to measure AT among Canadians on 4 national health surveys: National Population Health Survey (1994–1998), Canadian Community Health Survey (2000–2020), Canadian Health Measures Survey (2007–2019), and the Health Behaviour in School-aged Children Study (2010–2018). Among youth and adults (12+ y), we summarized over time: (1) the prevalence of AT participation and (2) time spent in AT (in hours per week) among those who report any AT participation. Where possible, we reported separate estimates of walking and cycling and produced an aggregate estimate of total AT. We stratified results by age group and sex. Results: Changes in AT survey questions over time and between surveys limit the interpretation and comparability of temporal trends. Nevertheless, a consistently higher proportion of females report walking, while a higher proportion of males report cycling. Irrespective of mode, males report spending more total time in AT. Participation in AT tends to decrease with age, with youth reporting the highest rates of AT and young adults often spending the most time in AT. Conclusions: Monitoring trends in AT can help assess patterns of behavior and identify whether promotion strategies are needed or whether population interventions are effective. Our evaluation of AT over time is limited by questions surveyed; however, consistent differences in AT by age and sex are evident over time. Background: Physical activity for any purpose counts toward meeting Physical Activity Guidelines (PAG). However, national surveillance systems traditionally focus on leisure-time physical activity. There is an incomplete understanding of the association between meeting PAG in leisure time and occupation activity level among US workers. Methods: We used cross-sectional 2020 National Health Interview Survey data to examine US adults aged 18–64 years who worked the week before the survey (n = 14,814). We estimated the proportion meeting aerobic and muscle-strengthening PAG in leisure time by occupation activity level (low, intermediate, and high). Using logistic regression, we examined the association between meeting PAG in leisure time and occupation activity level, adjusted for sociodemographic characteristics and stratified by hours worked. We compared the sociodemographic characteristics of adults working ≥40 hours (the previous week) in high-activity occupations to those in low- or intermediate-activity occupations. Results: Adults working in high-activity occupations were less likely to meet PAG in leisure time (26.1% [24.3–28.1]) versus those in low-activity (30.6% [29.1–32.2], P <.01) or intermediate-activity (32.4% [30.8–34.2]) occupations. In stratified, adjusted models, adults working ≥40 hours in low- and intermediate-activity occupations were 13% and 20%, respectively, more likely to meet PAG in leisure time versus those in high-activity occupations. Among those working ≥40 hours, adults in high-activity occupations were more likely to be Hispanic or Latino, male, younger, and have a high school education or lower compared with those in less active occupations. BackgroundIn contrast to prior research, our study presents longitudinal comparisons of the EQ-5D-5L and Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System (PROMIS) preference (PROPr) scores. This fills a gap in the literature, providing a much-needed understanding of these preference-based measures and their applications in healthcare research. Furthermore, our study provides equations to estimate one measure from the other, a tool that can significantly facilitate comparisons across studies.MethodsWe administered a health survey to 4,098 KnowledgePanel® members living in the United States. A subset of 1,256 (82% response rate) with back pain also completed the six-month follow-up survey. We then conducted thorough cross-sectional and longitudinal analyses of the two measures, including product-moment correlations between scores, associations with demographic variables, and health conditions. To estimate one measure from the other, we used ordinary least squares (OLS) regression with the baseline data from the general population.ResultsThe correlation between the EQ-5D-5L and PROPr scores was 0.69, but the intraclass correlation was only 0.34 because the PROPr had lower (less positive) mean scores on the 0 (dead) to 1 (perfect health) continuum than the EQ-5D-5L. The associations between the two preference measures and demographic variables were similar at baseline. The product-moment correlation between unstandardized beta coefficients for each preference measure regressed on 22 health conditions was 0.86, reflecting similar patterns of unique associations. Correlations of change from baseline to 6 months in the two measures with retrospective perceptions of change were similar. Adjusted variance explained in OLS regressions predicting one measure from the other was 48%. On average, the predicted values were within a half-standard deviation of the observed EQ-5D-5L and PROPr scores. The beta-binomial regression model slightly improved over the OLS model in predicting the EQ-5D-5L from the PROPr but was equivalent to the OLS model in predicting the PROPr.ConclusionDespite substantial mean differences, the EQ-5D-5L and PROPr have similar cross-sectional and longitudinal associations with other variables. We provide the OLS regression equations for use in cost-effectiveness research and meta-analyses. Future studies are needed to compare these measures with different conditions and interventions to provide more information on their relative validity.

Background: The built environments in which we work, live, and play can influence physical activity behaviors, and perceptions of these environments are associated with walking behavior. This study's objective is to compare national-level data on perceptions of the near-home walking environment from the 2015 and 2020 National Health Interview Survey. Methods: Adults in 2015 (n = 30,811) and 2020 (n = 29,636) reported perceptions of walkable supports (roads, sidewalks, paths, or trails; sidewalks on most streets), destinations (shops, stores, or markets; bus or transit stops; movies, libraries, or churches; places that help you relax, clear your mind, and reduce stress), and barriers to walking (traffic; crime; animals). Age-adjusted prevalence estimates, prevalence differences, and 95% confidence intervals were calculated overall and by demographic characteristics. Results: The reported prevalence of roads, sidewalks, paths, or trails for walking increased overall (85.3% in 2015 to 88.0% in 2020) and for many subgroups. Perceived places to walk to for relaxation, to clear your mind, and to reduce stress increased overall (72.1% in 2015 to 77.1% in 2020) and for all subgroups. Perceptions of crime as a barrier to walking decreased overall (12.5% in 2015 to 11.2% in 2020) and for some subgroups. From 2015 to 2020, the proportion of adults perceiving roads, sidewalks, paths, or trails; places to relax; and crime as a barrier to walking improved. Exposure to high and low ambient temperatures increases the risk of neonatal mortality, but the contribution of climate change to temperature-related neonatal deaths is unknown. We use Demographic and Health Survey (DHS) data (n = 40,073) from 29 low- and middle-income countries to estimate the temperature-related burden of neonatal deaths between 2001 and 2019 that is attributable to climate change. We find that across all countries, 4.3% of neonatal deaths were associated with non-optimal temperatures. Climate change was responsible for 32% (range: 19-79%) of heat-related neonatal deaths, while reducing the respective cold-related burden by 30% (range: 10-63%). Climate change has impacted temperature-related neonatal deaths in all study countries, with most pronounced climate-induced losses from increased heat and gains from decreased cold observed in countries in sub-Saharan Africa. Future increases in global mean temperatures are expected to exacerbate the heat-related burden, which calls for ambitious mitigation and adaptation measures to safeguard the health of newborns.

ObjectiveTo examine the association between co-use of commercial tobacco product (hereafter referred to as tobacco) and cannabis with educational outcomes among high school students.Study designWe analyzed high school student data from the 2021-2022 California Healthy Kids Survey (n = 287 653). Current (past-month) or ever tobacco and cannabis use was categorized as co-use, only tobacco or cannabis, or neither. Two self-reported educational outcomes were examined: absenteeism and grades. Adjusted logistic and linear regression models were used to examine the association between tobacco/cannabis use and absenteeism or grades, respectively. Estimates were adjusted for individual, peer, and school covariates, and clustering within schools.ResultsCurrent co-use of tobacco and cannabis was more than double the use of only tobacco (3.7% vs 1.7%) and similar to only cannabis (3.7%). Almost 18% of students reported absenteeism. Compared with students who used neither substance, students with current co-use had greater odds of absenteeism (aOR 1.41, 95% CI 1.33-1.49) and lower grades (β = -0.87, 95% CI -0.92 to -0.82). Compared with students using tobacco alone, students with co-use also had a significant elevated odds of absenteeism (aOR 1.19, 95% CI 1.10-1.29) and lower grades (β = -0.39, 95% CI -0.46 to -0.32). Similar results were found for students who ever used tobacco and cannabis.ConclusionsCalifornia youth who co-use tobacco and cannabis were most likely to have absenteeism and lower grades. Comprehensive efforts to prevent or reduce youth substance use may improve educational outcomes.

To accelerate medical breakthroughs, the All of Us Research Program aims to collect data from over one million participants. This report outlines processes used to construct the All of Us Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) survey and presents the psychometric characteristics of SDOH survey measures in All of Us. A consensus process was used to select SDOH measures, prioritizing concepts validated in diverse populations and other national cohort surveys. Survey item non-response was calculated, and Cronbachs alpha was used to analyze psychometric properties of scales. Multivariable logistic regression models were used to examine associations between demographic categories and item non-response. Twenty-nine percent (N = 117,783) of eligible All of Us participants submitted SDOH survey data for these analyses. Most scales had less than 5% incalculable scores due to item non-response. Patterns of item non-response were seen by racial identity, educational attainment, income level, survey language, and age. Internal consistency reliability was greater than 0.80 for almost all scales and most demographic groups. The SDOH survey demonstrated good to excellent reliability across several measures and within multiple populations underrepresented in biomedical research. Bias due to survey non-response and item non-response will be monitored and addressed as the survey is fielded more completely.

Objective: To verify the association between exercise and free time sport types and binge drinking in a large sample of adults. Methods: Data of 718,147 adults from the "Surveillance of Risk and Protection Factors for Chronic Diseases by Telephone Survey" were used. We described the demographic and behavioral variables, and negative binomial regression analyzed the association between exercise and free time sport types and binge drinking adjusted by demographics variables, body mass index status, and television time. Results: Outdoor walking/running was the most common exercise reported (20.0%, 95% confidence interval [CI], 19.8%–20.2%), followed by team sports (8.1%; 95% CI, 8.0%–8.2%) and strengthening (8.0%; 95% CI, 7.9%–8.1%). The prevalence of binge drinking for each exercise and free time sport type ranged from 6.9% (water aerobics) to 31.9% (team sports). Participants engaging in strengthening (prevalence ratio = 1.12; 95% CI, 1.04–1.21, P =.002) and team sports (prevalence ratio = 1.11; 95% CI, 1.07–1.17, P <.001) were more likely to binge drink more frequently in the past 30 days than inactive participants. Conclusions: It appears that the participants' profile plays an important role in the underlying social context of this association. Differential participation in observational cohorts may lead to biased or even reversed estimates. In this article, we describe the potential for differential participation in cohorts studying the etiologic effects of long-term environmental exposures. Such cohorts are prone to differential participation because only those who survived until the start of follow-up and were healthy enough before enrollment will participate, and many environmental exposures are prevalent in the target population and connected to participation via factors such as geography or frailty. The relatively modest effect sizes of most environmental exposures also make any bias induced by differential participation particularly important to understand and account for. We discuss key points to consider for evaluating differential participation and use causal graphs to describe two example mechanisms through which differential participation can occur in health studies of long-term environmental exposures. We use a real-life example, the Canadian Community Health Survey cohort, to illustrate the non-negligible bias due to differential participation. We also demonstrate that implementing a simple washout period may reduce the bias and recover more valid results if the effect of interest is constant over time. Furthermore, we implement simulation scenarios to confirm the plausibility of the two mechanisms causing bias and the utility of the washout method. Since the existence of differential participation can be difficult to diagnose with traditional analytical approaches that calculate a summary effect estimate, we encourage researchers to systematically investigate the presence of time-varying effect estimates and potential spurious patterns (especially in initial periods in the setting of differential participation).

Context: The Disablement in the Physically Active Scale (DPAS) was recently developed to evaluate the disability process and health-related quality of life. The aim of this study was to investigate the validity and reliability of the Turkish version of the DPAS in physically active individuals with musculoskeletal injury. Methods: The study sample comprised 64 physically active individuals with musculoskeletal injury aged 16–40 years. The DPAS was translated into Turkish according to the guidelines for cross-cultural adaptation. Short Form-36 was used concurrently to test the construct validity. The test–retest reliability of the Turkish version of the scale assessed by intraclass correlation coefficient and Cronbach α was calculated for internal consistency. Results: Confirmatory factor analysis carried out on the Turkish version of the DPAS was confirmed. Cronbach α was calculated to be.946. The intraclass correlation coefficients ranged between.593 and.924 (P <.001). The Turkish version of the scale showed significant correlations with domains of the Short Form-36 (P <.05). When the sensitivity of the study was evaluated, the highest correlation was found between DPAS total score and impairments (r =.906, P =.001), and the lowest correlation was between DPAS total score and quality of life (r =.637, P =.001). Conclusion: The Turkish version of the DPAS is a reliable, valid, and practical tool. The Turkish version of the DPAS can be used by health professionals to understand quality of life, the disability process, and activity limitations in Turkish-speaking physically active people after musculoskeletal injuries. Purpose: In light of the known benefits of physical activity (PA) for cancer survivors, this exploratory study sought to investigate the uptake of PA among this population in the United States. Methods: Using the National Health Interview Survey data from 2009 to 2018, lung, breast, colorectal, prostate, ovarian, and lymphoma cancer survivors were identified, and their PA adherence measured per the standards of the American College of Sports Medicine. Logistic regression and the Fairlie decomposition were used, respectively, to identify correlates of PA and to explain the difference in PA adherence between races. Results: Uptake of PA was significantly different between Whites and minorities. Blacks had lower odds than Whites (adjusted odds ratio: 0.77; 95% confidence interval, 0.66–0.93), whereas Mixed Race had twice the odds of Whites (adjusted odds ratio: 1.94; 95% confidence interval, 0.27–0.98) of adhering to PA recommendations. Decomposition identified education, family income-to-poverty ratio, body mass index, number of chronic conditions, alcohol use, and general health as key factors accounting for the PA disparity between cancer survivors of White and Black or Multiple/Mixed racial group. Health surveys allow exploring health indicators that are of great value from a public health point of view and that cannot normally be studied from regular health registries. These indicators are usually coded as ordinal variables and may depend on covariates associated with individuals. In this article, we propose a Bayesian individual‐level model for small‐area estimation of survey‐based health indicators. A categorical likelihood is used at the first level of the model hierarchy to describe the ordinal data, and spatial dependence among small areas is taken into account by using a conditional autoregressive distribution. Post‐stratification of the results of the proposed individual‐level model allows extrapolating the results to any administrative areal division, even for small areas. We apply this methodology to describe the geographical distribution of a self‐perceived health indicator from the Health Survey of the Region of Valencia (Spain) for the year 2016. Self-reported health (SRH) is an important indicator of mental health outcomes. More information, however, is needed on whether this association varies by birthplace (defined as US-born or non-US-born) and citizenship status (i.e., non-US-born citizen, non-US citizen, and US-born citizen). We examined the associations between SRH and depression among non-US-born US citizens, non-US citizens, and US-born citizens aged 18 years and older using weighted cross-sectional data from the 2010–2018 National Health Interview Survey (n = 139,884). Logistic regression models were used to assess the association between depression and SRH by citizenship status, adjusting for covariates. US-born citizens reported the highest prevalence of depression (40.3 %), and non-US-born citizens reported the highest prevalence of poor/fair SRH (14.5 %). Individuals with fair/poor SRH had a significantly increased likelihood of depression relative to those with good/very good/excellent for non-US-born US citizens (Adjusted Odds Ratio [AOR] = 2.42, 95 % Confidence Interval [95 % CI] = 2.04–2.88), non-US citizens (AOR = 2.80, 95 % CI = 2.31–3.40), and US-born citizens (AOR = 2.31, CI = 2.18–2.45). Limitations. The study is cross-sectional, reducing the strength of determining causal relationships. Also, there is a possible response bias due to the self-reported nature of the data. Our study indicates that fair/poor SRH is significantly associated with an increased likelihood of depression regardless of an individual citizenship status. Additionally, immigrants with fair/poor SRH had higher increased odds of depression. Purpose: Treatment of osteomyelitis (OM) is challenging. Ilizarov bone transport is a commonly used technique for management of OM. The recently introduced limb reconstruction system (LRS) has been effectively used for management of OM. It was suggested to be easier in use and less invasive. The present retrospective study aimed to compare LRS and Ilizarov bone transport in management of femoral OM using a propensity score matched analysis. Methods: The present retrospective study included 80 consecutive patients with femoral OM. The studied patients were managed either using Ilizarov external fixator (n = 40) or Orthofix LRS (n = 40). The clinical outcome measurements included union time, limb length discrepancy, additional operative procedures, refracture and infection. Results: Patients in the LRS group were exposed to significantly higher frequency of bone transport (30.0 versus 15.0%) and lower frequency of acute compression and lengthening (10.0 versus 32.5%). Patients in Ilizarov group had significantly higher frequency of tobramycin pellets as compared to their counterparts. The studied groups were comparable regarding the operative complications including pin-tract infection, non-union at docking site and refracture. Patients in the Ilizarov had significantly shorter time to union (8.2 ± 3.2 versus 11.0 ± 5.6 months, p = 0.012). No statistically significant differences were found between the studied groups regarding the quality-of-life domains. Conclusions: Use of Ilizarov external fixator and Orthofix LRS devices proved to be effective and reliable. Their influences on patients' quality appear to be comparable. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We construct comparable indicators that measure the prevalence of recent intimate partner violence (IPV) using publicly available, integrated microdata within the IPUMS data collections across many countries. The objective of this work is to increase opportunities for comparative research by leveraging vast quantities of harmonized data. We use consistent and comparable variables that measure domestic violence in international health surveys. The most consistent indicators of domestic violence measure physical, psychological, and sexual IPV in the last 12 months. We imposed a consistent reference period and restricted to a comparable subpopulation where these differed across surveys. Aggregating IPV variables across surveys, without careful attention to question wording and subpopulations, may produce inconsistent measures leading to bias, over- or under-estimation of IPV prevalence, or spurious trends and associations. Using comparable indicators in microdata and studying the level, distribution, and covariates of IPV in multiple settings over time, we can better understand these phenomena and identify effective policy interventions. This cross-sectional study used data from Brazil’s National Student Health Survey (PeNSE), from 2015 and 2019, to compare consumption of tobacco products among adolescent students in Brazil and identify associated factors. The study variables were current cigarette smoking, use of other tobacco products and use of any tobacco product. Pearson’s Chi-square test was used to ascertain associations between the variables; bivariate and multivariate analyses were performed using logistic regression. Cigarette smoking remained stable between 2015 (6.6%) and 2019 (6.8%), but use of any tobacco product increased (from 10.6% in 2015 to 14.8% in 2019), involving particularly hookahs (7.8%) and e-cigarettes (2.8%). Cigarette smoking was greater among adolescents aged 16 and 17, whose skin colour was black or brown, who missed classes without permission, who reported having no friends, displayed other risk factors, such as drinking alcoholic beverages, or who were passive smokers. The prevalence of smoking has increased over the years and is associated with sociodemographic aspects and other health risk behaviour, highlighting the need for lifelong health promotion actions. Background: Regular physical activity (PA) is a component of cardiovascular health and is associated with a lower risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD). However, only about half of US adults achieved the current PA recommendations. Objective: The study purpose was to implement PA counseling using a clinical decision support tool in a preventive cardiology clinic and to assess changes in CVD risk factors in a sample of patients enrolled over 12 weeks of PA monitoring. Methods: This intervention, piloted for 1 year, had 3 components embedded in the electronic health record: assessment of patients' PA, an electronic prompt for providers to counsel patients reporting low PA, and patient monitoring using a Fitbit. Cardiovascular disease risk factors included PA (self-report and Fitbit), body mass index, blood pressure, lipids, and cardiorespiratory fitness assessed with the 6-minute walk test. Depression and quality of life were also assessed. Paired t tests assessed changes in CVD risk. Results: The sample who enrolled in the remote patient monitoring (n = 59) were primarily female (51%), White adults (76%) with a mean age of 61.13 ± 11.6 years. Self-reported PA significantly improved over 12 weeks ( P = .005), but not Fitbit steps ( P = .07). There was a significant improvement in cardiorespiratory fitness (469 ± 108 vs 494 ± 132 m, P = .0034), and 23 participants (42%) improved at least 25 m, signifying a clinically meaningful improvement. Only 4 participants were lost to follow-up over 12 weeks of monitoring. Conclusions: Patients may need more frequent reminders to be active after an initial counseling session, perhaps getting automated messages based on their step counts syncing to their electronic health record. Despite the growing demand for long‐term care (LTC), the uptake of private LTC insurance (LTCI) is low and even declining in the United States. One reason is the complexity of LTCI decisions. Researchers have therefore suggested to support decision‐making abilities. This paper shows, however, that such support would not unambiguously enhance functioning of the LTCI market. We analyze whether selection arises from two correlated but different decision‐making abilities at old age, education and numeracy, and interactions thereof with private information. Using historical data from the Health and Retirement Survey we find that education generates adverse selection, which is only partially offset by advantageous selection due to numeracy. In addition, individuals with greater decision‐making abilities make better LTCI choices, amplifying selection by education and numeracy. This points at a trade‐off between decision simplicity and selection in insurance markets and suggests other steps are needed to enhance the performance of private LTCI markets. Elective surgeries were postponed during the COVID-19 pandemic to alleviate healthcare strains, affecting majority of elective orthopaedic surgeries such as total knee arthroplasties (TKAs). The aim of this study is to evaluate the impact on knee function and quality of life of patients who had their planned TKA postponed due to the pandemic. This is a retrospective analysis of data collected in a tertiary hospital. Patients included were diagnosed with primary knee osteoarthritis and they were initially scheduled for primary TKA between January to April 2020 but surgery was postponed by at least 6 months from the initial operative date. 160 patients were included in this study (53 males and 107 females, mean age 68.0 ± 8.1). Patients were assessed prior to initial surgery date and assessed again, prior to the postponed surgery date. Clinical scores included Knee Society Function Score (KSFS), Knee Society Knee Score (KSKS), Oxford Knee scores (OKS) and Short-Form 36 Physical and Mental Component Scores. (SF36 PCS and MCS). Paired T-test was performed for parametric data whereas Wilcoxon signed-rank analysis was performed for non-parametric data. Comparing initial preoperative versus postponement preoperative scores, the cohort had significantly poorer KSKS (38.4 ± 15.4 and 36.5 ± 15.4, p = 0.034), SF36 PCS (34.3 ± 9.2 and 32.7 ± 8.6, p = 0.02) and OKS (34.9 ± 0.77 and 35.8 ± 8.6, p = 0.02) scores respectively. The postponement of elective TKAs has resulted in a significant deterioration of knee scores and physical quality of live scores of patients in a short span of 6 months. Objectives: To identify official sources that routinely collect data on functioning in Switzerland, to provide an overview of the existing data and its comparability, and to assess the extent to which the data is suitable for developing a functioning metric and indicator. Methods: Data sources were identified through an iterative search. Standardized rules were applied to map the functioning information assessed by the sources using a current WHO functioning and disability survey as a reference framework for the content comparison. Results: Four sources were identified: the Swiss Survey of Health, Ageing and Retirement in Europe (SHARE), the Swiss Health Survey (SHS), the Lausanne cohort 65+ (Lc65+), and the Swiss Household Panel (SHP). All tools addressed sleep functions, energy level, emotional functions, and sensation of pain. Additionally, nine functioning categories were common across three sources. Conclusion: Population data sources in Switzerland routinely collect comparable functioning data, which can serve as the basis for creating a functioning indicator. Objective Methods Results Conclusions The management of femoral multiplanar deformity remains a great challenge for orthopaedic surgeons. The focal dome osteotomy (FDO) combined with Ilizarov technique is a theoretically ideal method for treating femoral multiplanar deformity, but the clinical evidence is limited. The aim of this study is to assess the clinical and radiological outcomes of this combined strategy for correcting femoral multiplanar deformities.A retrospective analysis was conducted to analyze 20 patients (29 limbs) with femoral multiplanar deformities treated by FDO combined with Ilizarov external fixation in our limb deformity center between 2017 and 2022. Preoperative and postoperative radiographical parameters were measured, including lateral proximal femoral angle (LPFA), mechanical lateral distal femoral angle (mLDFA), middle diaphysis angle (MDA), anatomic posterior distal femoral angle (aPDFA), mechanical axis deviation (MAD), and limb length discrepancy (LLD). Clinical assessments included a self‐made questionnaire for exercise capacity score (ECS), visual analog scale (VAS), and the 36‐Item Short‐Form Health Survey (SF‐36) score.There were eight males and 12 females, with a mean age of 32.8 years (14–61 years). All patients completed follow‐up with a mean follow‐up duration of 41.5 (27–81) months. The mean EFT was 8.9 (1.4–20.2) months. At final follow‐up, significantly improvement was noted regarding mean LLD (from 1.8 to 0.4 cm, p < 0.05), MDA (from 31.8° to 10.4°, p < 0.05), aPDFA (from 97.6° to 91.8°, p < 0.05), MAD (from 22.4 to 5.3 mm, p < 0.05), CORA on the true deformity plane (from 32.4° to 6.8°, p < 0.05). The mean VAS was decreased from 4.03 (2.0–6.0) preoperatively to 1.38 (0–3.0) at final follow‐up (p < 0.05). The mean score of each item of SF‐36 was significantly improved at final follow‐up (p < 0.05). The mean ECS was improved from 8.2 (5–12) preoperatively to 11.4 (8–13) at final follow‐up (p < 0.05). During the follow‐up, one patient underwent pin exchange. One patient underwent internal fixation to replace the Ilizarov fixation 1.4 months after the first surgery. Residual LLD (>0.5 cm) was noted in four patients but without significant symptoms. No serious complications occurred.The strategy of FDO combined with Ilizarov fixation could provide powerful ability and good flexibility for correcting femoral multiplanar deformities without significant complications. Introduction: The incidence of varicella in Canada has decreased by almost 99% since vaccination was introduced. However, variation in the timing and eligibility of vaccination programs across the country has resulted in some cohorts being under-vaccinated and therefore potentially susceptible to infection. Methods: We used nationally representative specimens from the Biobank of Statistics Canada's Canadian Health Measures Survey (CHMS) as well as residual specimens from Ontario collected between 2009–2014 to estimate population immunity across age-groups and geography, and identify any groups at increased risk of varicella infection. Results: The weighted proportion of specimens with antibody levels above the threshold of protection was 93.6% (95% CI: 92.4, 95.0). Protection was lowest among those aged 3–5 years (54.3%; 95% CI: 47.3, 61.4), but increased with age. Individuals born outside Canada had more than twice the odds of varicella susceptibility than those born in Canada (aOR: 2.7; 95% CI: 1.4, 5.0; p = 0.004). There were no differences by sex or geography within Canada, and there were no statistically significant differences when Ontario CHMS sera were compared to Ontario residual sera, apart from in participants aged 12–19 year age-group, for whom the CHMS estimate (91.2%; 95% CI: 86.7, 95.7) was significantly higher (p = 0.03) than that from residual specimens (85.9%, 95% CI: 81.1, 90.8). Discussion: Varicella immunity in Canada is changing. Children appear to have low population immunity, placing them at greater risk of infection and at increased risk of severe disease as they age. Our results underscore the importance of performing periodic serosurveys to monitor further population immunity changes as the proportion of vaccine-eligible birth-cohorts increases, and to continually assess the risk of outbreaks. Simple Summary: This study explored the long-term outcomes of patients who underwent hip replacement surgery following the removal of malignant tumors in the hip area. The main focus was to understand how well patients recovered in terms of physical function and quality of life. The study included 30 patients treated between 2010 and 2018, all of whom received interdisciplinary therapy, consisting of both systemic and surgical treatments. The follow-up period averaged a little over three years. The results showed that younger patients tended to have better physical function and overall quality of life after surgery. The study also revealed that complications like implant failure were relatively low, and no amputations were necessary. These findings suggest that this type of surgery, combined with comprehensive interdisciplinary care, can be a safe and effective option for managing hip tumors. Further research is needed to continue improving patient outcomes and tailoring treatments to individual needs. Introduction: Over the past few decades, tumor arthroplasty has evolved into an established therapeutic approach for addressing bone defects following tumor resection in the extremities. As the diagnosis has a significant impact on patients' lives, it is important to give clear expectations for functional recovery. Therefore, we investigated both the functional outcomes and the quality of life (QoL) after tumor arthroplasty for malignant hip tumors. Methods: This retrospective study included patients who had undergone resections of malignant hip tumors with consecutive modular hip arthroplasty between 2010 and 2018. Demographics, tumor entity, and complications stemming from both tumors and treatments were evaluated through the analysis of medical records and perioperative records. The assessment of functional outcomes was conducted with the following patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs): the Harris Hip Score (HHS), Musculoskeletal Tumor Society Score (MSTS), and the Short Form Survey 36 (SF-36). Furthermore, we performed subgroup analysis in two groups: one divided into survivors and non-survivors, as well as younger individuals (<57 years) and older individuals (>57 years). Results: A total of 30 patients were included in the study. At the time of follow-up, 19 patients were deceased. The average duration of follow-up was 3.2 (±2.51) years. The average age at the time of surgery was 60.3 (±15.20) years. Notably, there were no cases of amputation reported (0%). Five cases of implant failure were identified (16.67%). Among these, one was attributed to infection (3.3%), while four resulted from aseptic loosening (13.3%). In terms of functional outcomes, MSTS indicated good results (18 ± 7; range: 7–28; 60%), and the HHS demonstrated moderate outcomes (75.3%). Younger survivors (<57 years) exhibited notably superior results in terms of both the MSTS and physical functioning in the SF-36 (p = 0.03). Conclusion: In summary, this study shows declining tumor arthroplasty-related complications and satisfying functional outcomes as well as QoL. Noteworthy aspects include the relatively low rates of amputation and local tumor recurrences, which significantly favor the selection of appropriate therapeutic options. Introduction: The C-Brace microprocessor stance and swing control orthosis was designed to overcome safety and functional limitations of traditional knee-ankle-foot orthoses (KAFOs) for individuals with lower limb paresis. However, a systematic comparison to established KAFO types has not been performed in a bigger sample. Methods: International multicenter, randomized, controlled, cross-over clinical trial. Legacy KAFO users at risk of falling were randomized to KAFO/C-Brace or C-Brace/KAFO use for three months with each orthosis. Primary outcome was balance assessed with the Berg Balance Scale (BBS). Secondary outcomes were falls, mobility, function, and quality of life. Results: Intention-to-treat analysis with 102 participants. With the C-Brace, the BBS improved by 3.3 ± 6.3 points (p < 0.0001). Significantly fewer participants presented BBS scores <40 indicative of increased fall risk (16 vs. 36, p = 0.018). Mean falls reduced from 4.0 ± 16.8 to 1.1 ± 3.3 (p = 0.002). Outcomes for function, mobility, and quality of life showed significant improvements with the C-Brace. Discussion: The improvements in fall risk and mobility can be attributed to the stumble recovery and controlled knee flexion during weight bearing of the C-Brace and have a positive impact on the quality of life of users. Conclusion: The C-Brace represents an option for KAFO users with increased fall risk and reduced mobility. IMPLICATIONS FOR REHABILITATION: When prescribing traditional knee-ankle-foot orthoses (KAFOs), their known limitations, such as limited function and mobility, and the requirement to walk with compensatory mechanisms, especially on non-level terrains, should be considered. For patients with compromised balance and increased risk of falling when using a traditional KAFO, a microprocessor stance and swing control orthosis (MP-SSCO) may be considered as an orthotic option to reduce their fall risk. Background: Health-related quality of life (HRQL) has become an important outcome parameter in cardiology. The MOS 36-ltem Short-Form Health Survey (SF-36) and the PROMIS-29 are two widely used generic measures providing composite HRQL scores. The domains of the SF-36, a well-established instrument utilized for several decades, can be aggregated to physical (PCS) and mental (MCS) component summary scores. Alternative scoring algorithms for correlated component scores (PCSc and MCSc) have also been suggested. The PROMIS-29 is a newer but increasingly used HRQL measure. Analogous to the SF-36, physical and mental health summary scores can be derived from PROMIS-29 domain scores, based on a correlated factor solution. So far, scores from the PROMIS-29 are not directly comparable to SF-36 results, complicating the aggregation of research findings. Thus, our aim was to provide algorithms to convert PROMIS-29 data to well-established SF-36 component summary scores. Methods: Data from n = 662 participants of the Berlin Long-term Observation of Vascular Events (BeLOVE) study were used to estimate linear regression models with either PROMIS-29 domain scores or aggregated PROMIS-29 physical/mental health summary scores as predictors and SF-36 physical/mental component summary scores as outcomes. Data from a subsequent assessment point (n = 259) were used to evaluate the agreement between empirical and predicted SF-36 scores. Results: PROMIS-29 domain scores as well as PROMIS-29 health summary scores showed high predictive value for PCS, PCSc, and MCSc (R2 ≥ 70%), and moderate predictive value for MCS (R2 = 57% and R2 = 40%, respectively). After applying the regression coefficients to new data, empirical and predicted SF-36 component summary scores were highly correlated (r > 0.8) for most models. Mean differences between empirical and predicted scores were negligible (|SMD|<0.1). Conclusions: This study provides easy-to-apply algorithms to convert PROMIS-29 data to well-established SF-36 physical and mental component summary scores in a cardiovascular population. Applied to new data, the agreement between empirical and predicted SF-36 scores was high. However, for SF-36 mental component summary scores, considerably better predictions were found under the correlated (MCSc) than under the original factor model (MCS). Background: Population surveys are crucial for public policy planning and provide valuable representative data. In the health sector studies to identify and assess the prevalence of Arterial Hypertension (AH), a chronic non-communicable disease (NCD), along with its associated risk factors have been conducted. Objectives: This study aims to assess the effectiveness of a population health survey in estimating the prevalence of arterial hypertension (AH) in the Sorocaba municipality between August 2021 and June 2023. Methods: The analyzed performance indicator is the precision (design effect - deff) of AH prevalence in adults (≥ 18 years) and their exposure to primary risk factors. The total sample included 1,080 individuals from the urban area, deemed sufficient to estimate a deff of 1.5. This cluster-based study utilized census sectors as clusters, with data collected through household interviews, standardized questionnaires, and measurements of blood pressure and biometric parameters. The deff calculation formula used was weighted variance / raw variance. The Research Ethics Committee approved this study, with registration CAAE 30538520-1-0000-5373. Results: The deff values ranged from 0.44 for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease to 1.63 for asthma, with a deff of 1.00 for AH prevalence. Conclusion: The study demonstrated good precision in its results, with high receptivity and cooperation from participants. The cost-effectiveness of the research deemed appropriate. The technique of selecting households within clusters (census sectors) based on detailed mapping and demographic data from the Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatística (IBGE) proved to be practical and efficient, suitable for replication in other municipalities and for studying other NCDs. Purpose: Analyzing the correlation between patients' basic information, three-dimensional parameters after calcaneal fractures, and the prognosis of calcaneal fractures. Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on 43 patients with calcaneal fractures who underwent surgical treatment in the Foot and Ankle Surgery, Xi'an Honghui Hospital, from September 2019 to August 2022. Patient demographics including gender and age were collected, as well as the preoperative posterior articular surface collapse area, number of fracture fragments, length, width, height, and volume of the calcaneus obtained from preoperative three-dimensional imaging. Patients were followed up for VAS, AOFAS, and SF-36 scores. Correlation analysis was performed on the obtained data. Results: All 43 included patients received complete follow-up, including 40 males and 3 females, with an average follow-up time of 35.37 ± 10.73 months, and an average age of 43.98 ± 12.08 years. All patients' VAS, AOFAS, and SF-36 scores at the last follow-up showed no correlation with patient age, gender, or the area of posterior articular collapse, number of fracture fragments, length, width, height, or volume of the calcaneus. Conclusions: The prognosis of calcaneal fractures is unrelated to three-dimensional factors such as patient age, gender, length, width, height, volume of the calcaneus, area of the posterior joint, and number of fracture fragments. Background: The proliferation of internet use in the 21st century has brought about a pluralistic effect on health. Users of the internet are more exposed to health information, thus, making them more health literate and more likely to adopt healthy behaviors. However, frequent use of the internet has been found to adversely affect mental health (e.g., depression), social wellbeing, and obesity. Yet, the link between internet use and physical health outcomes such as hypertension remains less explored. We examined the association between frequency of internet use and hypertension risk among women and men in Kenya using data from the 2022 Kenyan demographic and health survey. Results: Overall, the prevalence of hypertension was higher among women (1,398 [8.69%]) compared to men (504 [3.49%]). Those who reported using the internet often reported higher prevalence of hypertension (women: n = 638 [10.49%]; men: n = 279 [3.98%]). The mean age was 29.3 years (SD = 9.6) for women and 29.9 years for men (SD = 10.9). After adjusting for potential confounders, women who reported often using the internet also demonstrated a significant association [AOR = 1.21; 95%CI: 1.03–1.43]. However, we found no significant association between frequency of internet use and hypertension among men after adjusting for confounders. Conclusion: Our study concludes that frequent use of internet is positively associated with hypertension risk among women but not men. Policymakers may consider implementing guidelines or regulations to promote healthy internet usage habits and encourage breaks or limits on screen time, especially for individuals at risk of hypertension (i.e., older women of reproductive age, women with higher education, married and previously married women, those in affluent households, parous women, those who consume alcohol and those overweight/obese). Healthcare providers should educate patients about the potential health consequences of prolonged internet usage and incorporate discussions about screen time management into routine clinical encounters. Objective: To determine the changes in health‐related quality of life (HRQoL) and sleep quality following a supervised combined exercise (EX) program compared to a Treatment‐As‐Usual (TAU) and to analyze the relationship between the differences in cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF) and HRQoL domains in people with schizophrenia (SZ). Methods: The SZ (n = 112, 41.3 ± 10.4 year) was randomly assigned into a TAU control group (n = 53) or EX‐group (n = 59, 3 days/week). The 36‐item Short‐Form Health Survey questionnaire assessed HRQoL and the sleep quality analysis (accelerometry). Results: After the intervention (20 weeks), physical functioning (∆ = 12.9%), general health (∆ = 15.3%), mental health (∆ = 8.3%), physical component summary (PCS) (∆ = 5.1%), and sleep efficiency (∆ = 1.9%) increased (p < 0.05) in the EX, with no significant changes in the TAU for any domains studied. There were significant differences between groups whose EX showed improvements (p < 0.05) compared to TAU in physical functioning, general health, PCS, and sleep efficiency. A greater CRF was associated with better values in physical functioning, role‐physical, bodily pain, general health, vitality, and PCS after the exercise program in SZ. Conclusions: A 20‐week supervised combined exercise intervention program for SZ increased sleep efficiency and physical functioning, general and mental health, and PCS scores. Women with deep infiltrating endometriosis (DIE) can benefit from the use of progestins. Our aim is to explore if levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine system (LNG-IUS) non inferior to dienogest (DNG) in improving deep endometriosis women's quality of life (QoL). This randomized open-label clinical trial included forty women with DIE assessed using clinical history and physical examination, transvaginal ultrasonography and magnetic resonance of the pelvis without any previous surgical treatment, with two treatments arms. The two groups underwent a 3-month washout of hormonal treatments, and then received either DNG or LNG-IUS for 6 months. QoL was assessed prior to and 6 months after the intervention, using the SF36 and the EHP30. DNG and LNG-IUS showed an increase on all domains of the SF36 (p <.001). There was no difference between treatments on the improvement observed (p >.05 for all domains). DNG and LNG-IUS, also, showed improvement on all domains of EHP30 (p <.001), except "relationship with children" and "feelings about pregnancy." However, there was no statistical difference between treatments for all sections scores (p >.05). The treatment of deep endometriosis symptoms using either DNG or LNG-IUS in women with no prior surgical treatment is associated with improvement in QoL. Background: Family caregivers of terminally ill and dying people do not only experience varying levels but also different dimensions of caregiver-related strain and burden. The aim of the study was to develop a short multidimensional screening tool for the detection of burden in family caregivers in palliative care. Methods: Family caregivers of cancer patients newly admitted to specialist inpatient palliative care (N = 232) completed questionnaires on psychological burden, quality of life, social support and need fulfillment. A latent class mixture model was used to identify discrete classes of family caregivers related to their multidimensional caregiver burden. Multinomial logistic regression analyses were performed to identify the most predictive items from a set of established questionnaires. Results: Four latent classes of family caregivers were identified: Currently stable caregivers (37%), Caregivers with unmet needs (20%), Psychologically burdened caregivers (30%), and High-risk caregivers (13%). Each of these classes describes a different risk profile of multidimensional family caregiver burden, although family caregivers exhibit high levels of distress across all classes. From a set of 48 items, we identified eight items that predicted the class membership best. These items represent the items of the novel multidimensional screening tool: The 8-item Screening Tool for Family Caregiver Burden in Palliative Care (CAREPAL-8). Except for social support, the items maintained fidelity to the conceptualization of multidimensional caregiver burden used in this study. A preliminary classification system was developed, which has yet to be validated. Conclusions: This study represents the first step in the establishment of a practical, self-administered screening tool that might help healthcare providers to tailor caregiver care according to their burden in daily practice. Low back pain is the most frequently reported musculoskeletal disorder and represents one of the highest patient burdens in healthcare. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to investigate the effectiveness of Pilates exercise on pain intensity and functional disability caused by low back pain (LBP). A Systematic review with meta-analysis was conducted. Data sources: MEDLINE-NLM and MEDLINE-EBSCO. We also searched on Scopus Elsevier, Cochrane, DOAJ, SciELO, PEDro, and PLOS ONE databases. Eligibility criteria: randomized controlled trials (RCTs) evaluating LBP in which the primary treatment was based on Pilates exercise compared with no exercise, or non-specific exercise. The search returned 1566 records of which 36 articles were included in the systematic review and 19 in the meta-analysis. Twenty-two studies compared the effects of Pilates exercise vs no exercise and 13 studies examined the effects of Pilates exercise vs non-specific exercise. Analysis showed that Pilates had a positive effect on the perception of LBP vs no exercise. A similar trend occurred with non-specific exercise. Pilates exercise can decrease LBP compared to no exercise and non-specific exercise. General practitioners should consider Pilates exercise as an effective strategy to manage LBP and counteract the growing health. PROSPERO registration number: CRD42022308387. Past research on domestic violence in India recurrently highlight women's economic empowerment as a major deterrent to domestic violence. That said, this paper tries to understand what is the nature of relationship between women's empowerment and their experience of spousal violence? In doing so, it specifically explores how this relationship is interceded by regional specificities. Based on an analysis of the National Family Health Survey (NFHS)-5 data in India, this paper observes that the relationship between women's empowerment and domestic violence is contentious. However, women having some education and using mobile phones are less vulnerable. Hence, this study concludes that mobile phones and Internet-based applications as well as community-based interventions could be the effective measures to end domestic violence. To analyze the distribution and factors associated with lack of knowledge about the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine among Brazilian adolescents.Cross‐sectional study using the 2019 National School Health Survey among 17,805 Brazilian students of public and private schools, aged 13–17 years. The outcome variable was “lack of knowledge about the HPV vaccine” and the explanatory variables were sociodemographic, behaviors, knowledge, and health conditions. Logistic regression model was used to calculate Odds Ratio (OR) and 95% confidence intervals (95%CI). Spatial analysis techniques were used to determine the formation of clusters in the federated units with similar proportions of adolescents who were unaware of the vaccine. The lack of knowledge about the HPV vaccine was reported by 45.54% of Brazilian students. There was a higher chance of lack of knowledge having had sexual intercourse (OR 1.43; 95% CI 1.20–1.70); attending public school (OR 1.72; 95%CI 1.47–2.02) and located in the Northeast Region (OR 1.35; 95%CI 1.08–1.69). The lower chance of lack of knowledge were female gender (OR 0.41; 95% CI 0.35–0.48), higher maternal education (OR 0.62; 95% CI 0.50–0.77) self‐rated health as Poor/very poor (OR 0.64; 95% CI 0.49–0.86) and receiving contraceptive counseling (OR 0.77; 95% CI 0.65–0.91). The proportion of lack of knowledge about the HPV vaccine was higher with the formation of High–High spatial clusters in the states of Maranhão, Piauí, and Pernambuco. Sociodemographic, health, and behavioral conditions and knowledge of students, as well as school characteristics, were associated with lack of knowledge about the HPV vaccine. Introduction: We investigated 2018 gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) prevalence estimates in three surveillance systems (National Vital Statistics System, State Inpatient Database, and Pregnancy Risk Assessment Monitoring Survey). Methods: We calculated GDM prevalence for jurisdictions represented in each system; a subset of data was analyzed for people 18–39 years old in 22 jurisdictions present in all three systems to observe dataset-specific demographics and GDM prevalence using comparable categories. Results: GDM prevalence estimates varied widely by data system and within the data subset despite comparable demographics. Previous studies have indicated the association between poor oral health and depression in adults. This study evaluated oral and social functions contribution to the association between tooth loss and depressive symptoms in Chilean individuals. We used data from the Chilean National Health Survey. The number of remaining teeth (≤19 versus ≥20 teeth) and anterior tooth losses were the exposure variables. Outcome was depression, measured through a self-report question and with the Composite International Diagnostic Interview – Short Form (CIDI SF). Mediating variables were determined by five questions, including problems regarding "speaking", "pain and suffering", "eating", "daily activities", and "social relationships". We performed logistic regression models adjusted by multiple confounders variables. Finally, we calculated indirect, direct effect, total effect, and the proportion mediated (PM). We included 5383 participants. The self-reported depression and suspected depression prevalence were 22,1 % and 14,0 % respectively. The total effect of fewer remaining teeth (≤19) on self-reported depression was 1.21 (95 % CI 1.02–1.44), and 1.09 (95 % CI 0.90–1.33) for suspected depression. All five variables of oral and social functions significantly mediated the association between tooth loss and depression. Feeling uncomfortable when speaking or eating discomfort were the most significant mediators. The mediation analysis should be interpreted with caution due to the cross-sectional design. Deterioration of oral and social functions was a significant mediator in the association between tooth loss and depression, in particular feeling uncomfortable when speaking or eating. BACKGROUND: The Lancet Low Back Pain (LBP) Series highlighted the lack of LBP data from low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). The study aimed to describe (1) what LBP care is currently delivered in LMICs and (2) how that care is delivered. DESIGN: An online mixed-methods study. METHODS: A Consortium for LBP in LMICs (n = 65) was developed with an expert panel of leading LBP researchers (>2 publications on LBP) and multidisciplinary clinicians and patient partners with 5 years of clinical/lived LBP experience in LMICs. Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. Two researchers independently analyzed qualitative data using inductive and deductive coding and developed a thematic framework. RESULTS: Forty-seven (85%) of 55 invited panel members representing 32 LMICs completed the survey (38% women, 62% men). The panel included clinicians (34%), researchers (28%), educators (6%), and people with lived experience (4%). Pharmacotherapies and electrophysiological agents were the most used LBP treatments. The thematic framework comprised 8 themes: (1) self-management is ubiquitous, (2) medicines are the cornerstone, (3) traditional therapies have a place, (4) society plays an important role, (5) imaging use is very common, (6) reliance on passive approaches, (7) social determinants influence LBP care pathway, and (8) health systems are ill-prepared to address LBP burden. CONCLUSION: LBP care in LMICs did not consistently align with the best available evidence. Findings will help research prioritization in LMICs and guide global LBP clinical guidelines. Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) affects one in ten individuals in the United States, with rates expected to rise significantly. This novel study aimed to evaluate the impact of a structured exercise program on glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) levels among males and females with T2DM, and to compare the effects of different volumes of combined aerobic and resistance exercise. A total of 67 adult participants with T2DM were randomly assigned to two groups: Group 1 (exercise classes and walking sessions) and Group 2 (exercise classes only). After 10 weeks, 39 participants completed the intervention and 34 had complete HbA1c records. Results indicated a significant improvement in HbA1c levels overall, with males exhibiting a greater decrease compared to females. Minimal baseline differences were observed between the walking and non-walking groups and improvements in HbA1c were noted in both groups with no significant differences. These findings suggested potential sex-specific differences in response to structured exercise programs. The study highlighted the importance of tailored exercise interventions in healthcare while managing T2DM. Further research is necessary to optimize exercise prescriptions and evaluate long-term benefits, but the current evidence supports structured exercise as a valuable component of comprehensive diabetes care. This research underscores the need for personalized approaches in exercise regimens, contributing to the growing body of knowledge on sex-specific responses to T2DM interventions. BACKGROUND: During the COVID-19 pandemic, physical inactivity and inactivity-related health problems have deepened in many individuals, including office workers. It is not yet known whether there are exercise programs through telerehabilitation that will provide rapid relief in a short time in office workers who apply part or full-time teleworking system. OBJECTIVE: To comparatively investigate influences of short-term upper extremity exercise trainings (UEET) on pain, musculoskeletal discomforts (MSD), physical activity (PA), mood, and quality of life (QOL) in office workers during COVID-19 restrictions. METHODS: Thirty office workers were divided into exercise (EG) (UEET and walking advice) and control (CG) (walking advice) groups. The UEET was applied for at least 20–40 minutes/day, 5–7 days/week for a one week between February 2022 and June 2022. Office workers' pain, MSD, PA level, mood and QOL were measured. RESULTS: Baseline characteristics of groups (EG: 37.8±7.04 years, CG: 41.6±7.97 years) were similar (p > 0.05). Following UEET, scores of office workers in EG on total step count, vigorous PA, moderate-intensity PA, walking, total PA, physical functioning, and body pain subscales of QOL significantly increased compared to scores of office workers in CG, while scores on neck, back and hip discomforts and anxiety and depression significantly decreased (p < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: One-week UEET and walking advice can improve office workers' daily step counts, MSD, PA levels, mood, and QOL. The proportion of Indian households with access to a toilet has grown considerably over the past decade. Many of these toilets rely on on-site containment, either in the form of a septic tank or soak pit. If the waste from these containers is not removed using some type of mechanized method, it can overflow into drains before flowing into treatment facilities or being discharged into water bodies. Therefore, drains are a critical part of the sanitation chain. What remains unknown, however, is what types of drains are available to households in India. Understanding this is critical given that people are at a greater risk of ingesting contaminated water and making dermal contact with pathogens if waste flows in open drains. For the first time, India's National Family Health Survey from 2019–2021 contains data on the type of drainage available to households. Thus, the purpose of this paper is to estimate the prevalence of households relying on no drainage, open drainage, drains to soak pits, and closed drainage. We also estimate these prevalence values for each of India's 720 districts and by urban/rural communities to understand the geographic clustering of drainage types throughout India. Overall, we found that the most common drainage type was open drains (37.5% | 95% CI: 37.3–37.6), followed by closed drains (33.9% | 95% CI: 33.7–34.0). The household prevalence of open drainage was above 42% in more than half of India's 720 districts. Similarly, the household prevalence of closed drainage was below 24% in more than half of India's 720 districts. We also found that open drains were more common in rural communities, while closed drains were more common in urban communities. We also found a socioeconomic gradient in terms of drainage types, with those lower on the socioeconomic spectrum more likely to have open drains or no drainage. Our results underscore the need to both geographically and socioeconomically target interventions that ensure households have access to adequate drainage. Objective: Deucravacitinib, a tyrosine kinase 2 inhibitor, was assessed in a phase 2 trial in patients with active psoriatic arthritis (PsA). Here, we report effects of deucravacitinib from the patient perspective. Methods: This phase 2, double‐blind trial (NCT03881059) randomized patients with active PsA 1:1:1 to deucravacitinib 6 mg once daily (QD), 12 mg QD, or placebo, for 16 weeks. Key secondary end points were changes from baseline (CFBs) at week 16 in Health Assessment Questionnaire‐Disability Index (HAQ‐DI) and 36‐item Short‐Form Health Survey (SF‐36) physical component summary (PCS) scores. Additional patient‐reported outcomes (PROs) assessed disease impact, including fatigue, pain, and mental health. The mean CFBs in PROs and percentages of patients reporting improvements with minimum clinically important differences (MCIDs) or scores of greater than normal values were also assessed. Results: This study comprised 203 patients (51.2% female; mean ± SD age, 49.8 ± 13.5 years). At week 16, the adjusted mean difference (95% confidence interval) versus placebo in HAQ‐DI and SF‐36 PCS CFB was significant for each deucravacitinib group (HAQ‐DI 6 mg, −0.26 [−0.42 to −0.10], P = 0.0020; HAQ‐DI 12 mg, −0.28 [−0.45 to −0.12], P = 0.0008; SF‐36 PCS 6 mg, 3.3 [0.9 to 5.7], P = 0.0062; SF‐36 PCS 12 mg, 3.5 [1.1 to 5.9], P = 0.0042). MCID at week 16 were reported for all PROs with either dose of deucravacitinib. Improvements of MCID or to normative values were reported by more patients receiving deucravacitinib than placebo. Conclusion: Deucravacitinib groups demonstrate significant and clinically meaningful improvements in PROs versus placebo in patients with active PsA, which warrants further study. Objective: To explore the demographic and disease-related factors associated with acupuncture response in patients with chronic tension-type headache (CTTH). Methods: Using data from a randomized clinical trial (218 cases) consisting of 4 weeks of baseline assessment, 8 weeks of treatment, and 24 weeks of follow-up, participants were regrouped into responders (at least a 50% reduction in monthly headache days at week 16 compared with baseline) and non-responders. Twenty-three demographic and disease-related factors associated with acupuncture response in 183 participants were analyzed by multivariable logistic regression. Results: One hundred and nineteen (65.0%) participants were classified as responders. Four factors were significantly independently associated with acupuncture response, including treatment assignment, headache intensity at baseline, and 2 domains [general health (GH) and social functioning (SF)] from the 36-Item Short Form Health Survey quality of life questionnaire. Treatment assignment was associated with non-response: participants receiving true acupuncture were 3-time more likely to achieve a CTTH response than those receiving superficial acupuncture [odds ratio (OR) 0.322, 95% confidence interval (CI) 0.162 to 0.625, P=0.001]. Compared with patients with mild-intensity headache, patients with moderate-intensity headache were twice as likely to respond to acupuncture (OR 2.001, 95% CI 1.020 to 4.011, P=0.046). The likelihood of non-response increased by 4.5% with each unit increase in the GH grade (OR 0.955, 95% CI 0.917 to 0.993, P=0.024) while decreased by 3.8% with each unit increase in the SF grade (OR 1.038, 95% CI 1.009 to 1.069, P=0.011). Conclusions: Greater headache intensity, lower GH score, and higher SF score were associated with better acupuncture responses in CTTH patients. Parent rating scales are used at increasing rates across disciplines to track child development and determine diagnoses/needs. This study explored relationships among parental stress and the validity of parents' ratings of their child's behaviors. Participants include children who were referred for assessment of behavioral, social-emotional, and development difficulties at a major metropolitan hospital in the United States. Parents completed rating scales regarding their own stress (PSI-4-SF) and child behaviors (BASC-3). Present findings indicate caution is warranted when interpreting parent report data of their child's behavior in the context of significant parenting stress. Relying exclusively on parent-report information to assess young children in clinical setting appears contraindicated. Family/situational factors beyond the individual child are important to assess. Background: There is recognition of the growing prevalence of alternative work arrangements, contingent jobs, and work secured through an app. However, there have been few systematic efforts to understand the impact of these forms of work on individuals and households. Methods: The data derive from the California Work and Health Survey administered to a sample of the working age population of the state solicited through random‐digit dialing of cell phone numbers. 4014 individuals completed the survey, 26% of those with an in‐service cell phone number. We present odds ratios and 95% confidence intervals from logistic regression estimating the impact of being an independent contractor, in other forms of alternative work arrangements, in contingent jobs, and in work secured through an app, on economic and health status and working conditions in main jobs, with and without adjustment for covariates. Results: Several of the forms of work analyzed are associated with lower earnings and higher rates of wage theft, household poverty, benefit recipiency, and expectation of hardships in food, housing, and medical care in the immediate future. Association between the forms of work and current health status is less consistent. However, several forms of work are associated with working conditions known to be risk factors for subsequent health problems. Conclusions: Public policy to mitigate the adverse impacts of work, largely developed in the 20th Century when there was an identified workplace, may be insufficient to protect workers' well‐being for alternative work arrangements, contingent jobs, and work secured through an app. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: Although Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccination is critical to control its spread, vaccine hesitancy varies significantly among the United States population; moreover, some vaccine recipients experienced various adverse effects. We aim to assess the impact of COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy in a university-affiliated community, the factors affecting participants' decisions, and their adverse effects. Methods: A pre-vaccination online Institutional Review Board IRB-approved survey was emailed in Nov/Dec 2020, 2 months before the implementation of state-policy protocols for COVID-19 vaccination. A post-vaccination survey was emailed in May/June 2021, two months after protocol execution. A third follow-up survey was sent in Nov/Dec 2021, and a fourth was sent in June/July 2022. The study population included three groups of adult participants: university students, faculty, and staff-(MS), university health system patients- (MP), and Cancer Center patients-(MCP). The study was designed as a longitudinal cohort study. Statistical analyses were performed using SPSS. Results: With a combined response rate of 26% (40,578/157,292) among the four surveys, 15,361 participants completed the first survey (MS = 4,983, MP = 9,551, and MCP = 827). 2/3 of participants (63.5%) were willing to get vaccinated, with a significant difference in acceptance among groups, MS:56.6%, MP:66.2%, and MCP:71.6% (p < 0.05). Vaccine acceptance rates reached 89% in the second survey after the vaccine's approval, with a lower acceptance rate of MS:84.6% than with MP:90.74% and MCP:92.47% participants (p<0.05). Safety and effectiveness concerns were the main factors affecting participants' decisions in all the first three surveys; however, participants reported these concerns decreased between pre-vaccination, post-vaccination, and follow-up surveys with 87%, 56%, and 46%, respectively(p < 0.05). More than two-thirds of the participants (70%) reported having either minor/moderate symptoms (61.6%) or major symptoms (8.6%) after getting some of the vaccine doses (p<0.05). Conclusion: The hesitance of COVID-19 vaccination was associated with concerns regarding its safety and efficacy. Vaccine acceptance rose higher than expected after protocol execution, likely due to continuous education, whereas safety and efficacy remain factors hindering vaccine acceptance. Background: Stroke is one of the primary causes of disability in China and around the world, having an impact on the health and well-being of stroke patients. The importance of spiritual needs for stroke patients has always been a controversial topic internationally, partly because related research was mostly qualitative and may not directly reflect the degree of spiritual needs. In addition, most studies focus on the same cultural background, there is a lack of research that delves into the nuances of Chinese culture and background. The goal of this study is to evaluate the level of spiritual needs and influencing factors in Chinese stroke patients and to explore the mediating role and pathways of these variables on spiritual needs. Methods: From August 2022 to January 2023, we conducted a cross-sectional questionnaire survey of 422 stroke patients in the affiliated hospitals of Hunan University of Chinese Medicine in Changsha Province by cluster sampling. We measured the patient's spiritual needs, quality of life, anxiety and depression levels, and family support using the Spiritual Needs Questionnaire (SPNQ), the MOS36 item Short Form Health Survey (SF-36), the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS), and the Family Support Self Rating Scale (PSS-Fa). We used the General Information Questionnaire to gain insight into the sociodemographic characteristics of the patients. Nonparametric tests and multiple linear regression models were used to analyze the independent relationship between spiritual needs and quality of life, anxiety, depression, and family support. The mediation model in AMOS 24.0 software was used to analyze the mediating role among the five variables. Results: The score of spiritual needs of people with stroke included in this study was 37 points [IQR 33 to 40)]. The influencing factors of spiritual needs included primary economic sources for disease-related expenditures (p = 0.044), number of stroke occurrences (p = 0.001), duration of illness (p = 0.023), activities of daily living (p = 0.006), depression scores(p = 0.034), and family support scores(p = 0.008). Anxiety (β = 0.347, p = 0.004), depression (β = 0.368, p = 0.005), and family support (β = 0.167, p = 0.023) had directly or indirectly affected the spiritual needs of people with stroke. Quality of life (β=-0.202, p = 0.017) had a direct effect on spiritual needs. Conclusions: The spiritual needs of people with stroke were at an intermediate level. Our findings highlight that the SPNQ score is associated with anxiety, depression, quality of life, and family support. Therefore, nurses should identify the spiritual needs of patients and provide them with effective and comprehensive spiritual care by reducing negative emotions and enhancing social support, promoting the development and progress of spiritual care in China. Estimates of unwanted family planning (UFP), which are based on a desire to have a child in the next nine months among current contraceptive users, exclude women who are sterilized since these women are not asked about their fertility preferences; all sterilized women are assumed to have a “met need” for family planning. However, the India National Family Health Survey asks sterilized women if they regret being sterilized and whether they were told that the operation would result in their permanent inability to have children. We extend the concept of UFP by classifying sterilized women who express regret or who were not informed about the procedure's permanence, as having UFP. When limiting our analysis of UFP to nonsterilized contraceptive users, we find that 0.9 percent of Indian women had UFP in 2019–2021. In this period, 29.9 percent of Indian women were sterilized. We estimate that 4.9 percent of sterilized women express regret and 16.3 percent were not told of the procedure's permanence. Adding sterilized women who express regret raises our UFP estimate in India to 2.3 percent, while also including sterilized women who were not told about the procedure's permanence yields an overall UFP estimate of 6.9 percent in India. Introduction: The morbidity and mortality associated with Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) have been clearly documented. Controlling and eventually eradication this practice is very important. Despite a loud call from the WHO and other international organisations, there are extensive nationalities and societies from both developed and developing countries still practising FGM. Understanding the current magnitude and associated factors in Tanzania may bring more light for possible interventions intended to control FGM. This study is timely for this aim. Objective: To determine the prevalence of female genital mutilation and its associated factors among adolescent girls and young women in Tanzania. Methods: Secondary data analysis was conducted on data from the 2022 Tanzanian Demographic and Health Survey. The weighted sample included in this study was 2965 adolescent girls and young women aged 15–24 years. Data analysis was performed using Stata 18.0 software. The strength of the association was assessed using the adjusted odds ratio (aOR) along with its corresponding 95% confidence interval (CI). Results: The overall prevalence of FGM among adolescent girls and young women in Tanzania was 4.9% (95% CI = 3.37, 6.97). The prevalence varied significantly across the zones, ranging from < 1% in both Zanzibar and Southern zones to 19.7% in the Northern zone. Moreover, the results revealed that factors associated with FGM were rural areas (aOR = 2.09, 95% CI = 1.80, 5.44); no education (aOR = 11.59, 95% CI = 4.97, 27.03); poor (aOR = 2.41, 95% CI = 1.20, 4.83); unskilled manuals (aOR = 3.76, 95% CI = 1.97, 7.15); continued FGM (aOR = 3.86, 95% CI = 1.62, 9.18); FGM required by religion (aOR = 8.5, 95% CI = 3.15, 22.96) and watching television at least once a week (aOR = 0.20, 95% CI = 0.70, 1.56) among adolescents and young women in Tanzania. Conclusion: Female genital mutilation among adolescent girls and young women aged 15–24 years in Tanzania has decreased slightly between 2015/16 and 2022 from 5.9% to 4.9% respectively. This was mostly associated with education level, place of residence, occupation, wealth index, mass media exposure, attitudes towards FGM.
