One of the most significant discussions in forensics is Audio Deepfake, where AI-generated tools are used to clone audio content of people’s voices. Although it was intended to improve people’s lives, attackers utilized it maliciously, compromising the public’s safety. Thus, Machine Learning (ML) and Deep Learning (DL) methods have been developed to detect imitated or synthetically faked voices. However, the developed methods suffered from massive training data or excessive pre-processing. To the author’s best knowledge, Arabic speech has not yet been explored with synthetic fake audio, and it is very limited to the challenged fakeness, which is imitation. This paper proposed a new Audio Deepfake detection method called Arabic-AD based on self-supervised learning techniques to detect both synthetic and imitated voices. Additionally, it contributed to the literature by creating the first synthetic dataset of a single speaker who perfectly speaks Modern Standard Arabic (MSA). Besides, the accent was also considered by collecting Arabic recordings from non-Arabic speakers to evaluate the robustness of Arabic-AD. Three extensive experiments were conducted to measure the proposed method and compare it to well-known benchmarks in the literature. As a result, Arabic-AD outperformed other state-of-the-art methods with the lowest EER rate (0.027%), and high detection accuracy (97%) while avoiding the need for excessive training.

Zero-shot classification presents a challenge since it necessitates a model to categorize images belonging to classes it has not encountered during its training phase. Previous research in the field of remote sensing (RS) has explored this task by training image-based models on known RS classes and then attempting to predict the outcomes for unfamiliar classes. Despite these endeavors, the outcomes have proven to be less than satisfactory. In this paper, we propose an alternative approach that leverages vision-language models (VLMs), which have undergone pre-training to grasp the associations between general computer vision image-text pairs in diverse datasets. Specifically, our investigation focuses on thirteen VLMs derived from Contrastive Language-Image Pre-Training (CLIP/Open-CLIP) with varying levels of parameter complexity. In our experiments, we ascertain the most suitable prompt for RS images to query the language capabilities of the VLM. Furthermore, we demonstrate that the accuracy of zero-shot classification, particularly when using large CLIP models, on three widely recognized RS scene datasets yields superior results compared to existing RS solutions.

Due to the rapid developments in technology and the sudden expansion of social media use, Dialect Arabic has become an important source of data that needs to be addressed when building Arabic corpora. In this paper, thirty-three Arabic corpora are surveyed to show that despite all of the developments in the literature, Saudi dialect (SD) corpora still need further expansion. This paper contributes to the literature on SD corpora by creating the largest Saudi corpus – the King Saud University Saudi Corpus (KSUSC) – with +1B total words, including +119M SD words. The KSUSC not only is the newest and largest SD corpus but is also diverse, covering 26 domains in text collected from five different sources. This paper also contributes to the literature by developing a new incremental preprocessing system that is used to create relevant lexicons that are then used to clean and normalize the collected data. This incremental system is scalable and can be adapted for different resources and dialects. Moreover, the collection process for building the KSUSC is discussed in detail, and the challenges in collecting SD text with respect to each platform are highlighted. By the end of this paper, different design criteria are proposed and used with the KSUSC to conclude that the resulting corpus can be of great benefit to researchers who are interested in integrating the corpus with their own work or using its resulting lexicons with Saudi-based NLP tasks.

Semantic Textual Similarity (STS) is the task of identifying the semantic correlation between two sentences of the same or different languages. STS is an important task in natural language processing because it has many applications in different domains such as information retrieval, machine translation, plagiarism detection, document categorization, semantic search, and conversational systems. The availability of STS training and evaluation data resources for some languages such as English has led to good performance systems that achieve above 80% correlation with human judgment. Unfortunately, such required STS data resources are not available for many languages like Arabic. To overcome this challenge, this paper proposes three different approaches to generate effective STS Arabic models. The first one is based on evaluating the use of automatic machine translation for English STS data to Arabic to be used in fine-tuning. The second approach is based on the interleaving of Arabic models with English data resources. The third approach is based on fine-tuning the knowledge distillation-based models to boost their performance in Arabic using a proposed translated dataset. With very limited resources consisting of just a few hundred Arabic STS sentence pairs, we managed to achieve a score of 81% correlation, evaluated using the standard STS 2017 Arabic evaluation set. Also, we managed to extend the Arabic models to process two local dialects, Egyptian (EG) and Saudi Arabian (SA), with a correlation score of 77.5% for EG dialect and 76% for the SA dialect evaluated using dialectal conversion from the same standard STS 2017 Arabic set.

Ionizing radiation is necessary for diagnostic imaging and deciding the right radiation dose is extremely critical to obtain a decent quality image. However, increasing the dosage to improve the image quality has risks due to the potential harm from ionizing radiation. Thus, finding the optimal as low as diagnostically acceptable (ALADA) dosage is an open research problem that has yet to be tackled using artificial intelligence (AI) methods. This paper proposes a new multi-balancing 3D convolutional neural network methodology to build 3D multidetector computed tomography (MDCT) datasets and develop a 3D classifier model that can work properly with 3D CT scan images and balance itself over the heavy unbalanced multi-classes. The proposed models were exhaustively investigated through eighteen empirical experiments and three re-runs for clinical expert examination. As a result, it was possible to confirm that the proposed models improved the performance by an accuracy of 5% to 10% when compared to the baseline method. Furthermore, the resulting models were found to be consistent, and thus possibly applicable to different MDCT examinations and reconstruction techniques. The outcome of this paper can help radiologists to predict the suitability of CT dosages across different CT hardware devices and reconstruction algorithms. Moreover, the developed model is suitable for clinical application where the right dose needs to be predicted from numerous MDCT examinations using a certain MDCT device and reconstruction technique.

According to the Food and Agriculture Organization, the world production of date fruits is 8,526,218 tons and around 1,302,859 tons in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) in 2018. There are several types of date fruits, and the most common in KSA are Barhi, Khalas, Meneifi, Naboot Saif, and Sullaj. Moreover, there are around five main maturity levels: Immature, Khalal, Khalal with Rutab, Pre-Tamar, and Tamar. Harvesting date fruits is performed according to its maturity level and type, which is a critical decision that significantly affects profit. In this paper, we propose a smart harvesting decision system to estimate date fruits type, maturity level, and weight using computer vision (CV) and deep learning (DL) techniques. The proposed system consists of three sub-systems: Dates maturity estimation system (DMES), type estimation system (DTES), and dates weight estimation system (DWES). We utilized four DL architectures, including ResNet, VGG-19, Inception-V3, and NASNet for both DMES and DTES and support vector machine (SVM) (regression and linear) for DWES. We evaluated the performance of the proposed system using the dataset collected by the Center of Smart Robotics Research. Using multiple performance metrics, DTES achieved maximum performance of 99.175% accuracy, an F1 score of 99.225%, 99.8% average precision, and 99.05% average recall. The maximum performance of DMES was 99.058% accuracy, F1 score of 99.34%, 99.64% average precision, and 99.08% average Recall. DWES achieved a maximum performance of 84.27% using SVM-Linear.

Childhood obesity has become one of the major health issues in the global population. The increasing prevalence of childhood obesity is associated with serious health issues and comorbidities related to obesity. Several studies mentioned that childhood obesity became even worse recently due to the effect of COVID-19 and the consequent policies and regulations. For that reason, Internet of Things (IoT) technologies should be utilized to overcome the challenges related to obesity management and provide care from a distance to improve the health care services for obesity. However, IoT by itself is a limited resource and it is important to consider other artificial intelligent (AI) components. Thus, this paper contributes into the literature of child obesity management by introducing a comprehensive survey for obesity management covering clinical work measuring the association between sleep disturbances and childhood obesity alongside physical activity and diet and comparatively analyzing the emerging technologies used to prevent childhood obesity. It further contributes to the literature by proposing an interactive smart framework that combines clinical and emerging AI/telehealth technologies to manage child obesity. The proposed framework can be used to reduce children obesity and improve their quality of life using Machine Learning (ML). It utilizes IoT devices to integrate information from different sources and complement it with a mobile application and web-based platform to connect parents and physicians with their child.

Due to an increase in the number of disabled people around the world, inclusive solutions are becoming a priority. People with disabilities may encounter many problems and may not be able to easily participate in various activities due to physical barriers, which may sometimes cause them to be frustrated and embarrassed. Recently, the emerging telepresence robot technology has been proposed to enable people with disabilities to increase their presence by incorporating information and communications technology (ICT) into robotics platforms. Therefore, in this paper we conduct a comprehensive analysis using comparative and elicitation studies to understand the current state of mobile telepresence robot systems and to identify the gaps that must be filled. This paper further contributes to the literature by proposing a novel telepresence robot system that adapts text-to-speech (TTS) and ICT technologies with robotics for its use as an assistant. To the authors’ knowledge, the proposed system is the first MRP system that supports speech impairment and introduces emotion components into its communication function. It includes an operator site (mobile) and a remote site (robot) to allow users to control the robot from a distance and communicate with others in remote locations. It allows the user to physically interact with people and show certain emotions through the robot in remote locations, or it can accompany them to speak on their behalf. It can provide agency for both remote and in-class users through emoji-based communication and audio–video streaming with recording functionality. As shown at the end of this paper, the system was tested with 30 people, some of whom had mobility or speech disabilities, showing that the user acceptance score was above 95% and that people with disabilities liked to interact with other people using the proposed system. The users appreciated having the ability to control the robot from a distance and praised the capability to show their emotions through the robot emoji motions and to control the audio–video streaming. From this study, we conclude that the proposed telepresence system could be an asset to people with speech and mobility disabilities and could help them feel physically present in various places.

A number of AI-generated tools are used today to clone human voices, leading to a new technology known as Audio Deepfakes (ADs). Despite being introduced to enhance human lives as audiobooks, ADs have been used to disrupt public safety. ADs have thus recently come to the attention of researchers, with Machine Learning (ML) and Deep Learning (DL) methods being developed to detect them. In this article, a review of existing AD detection methods was conducted, along with a comparative description of the available faked audio datasets. The article introduces types of AD attacks and then outlines and analyzes the detection methods and datasets for imitation- and synthetic-based Deepfakes. To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this is the first review targeting imitated and synthetically generated audio detection methods. The similarities and differences of AD detection methods are summarized by providing a quantitative comparison that finds that the method type affects the performance more than the audio features themselves, in which a substantial tradeoff between the accuracy and scalability exists. Moreover, at the end of this article, the potential research directions and challenges of Deepfake detection methods are discussed to discover that, even though AD detection is an active area of research, further research is still needed to address the existing gaps. This article can be a starting point for researchers to understand the current state of the AD literature and investigate more robust detection models that can detect fakeness even if the target audio contains accented voices or real-world noises.

With the extensive developments in autonomous vehicles (AV) and the increase of interest in artificial intelligence (AI), path planning is becoming a focal area of research. However, path planning is an NP-hard problem and its execution time and complexity are major concerns when searching for optimal solutions. Thus, the optimal trade-off between the shortest path and computing resources must be found. This paper introduces a path planning algorithm, tide path planning (TPP), which is inspired by the natural tide phenomenon. The idea of the gravitational attraction between the Earth and the Moon is adopted to avoid searching blocked routes and to find a shortest path. Benchmarking the performance of the proposed algorithm against rival path planning algorithms, such as A*, breadth-first search (BFS), Dijkstra, and genetic algorithms (GA), revealed that the proposed TPP algorithm succeeded in finding a shortest path while visiting the least number of cells and showed the fastest execution time under different settings of environment size and obstacle ratios.

Swarm robotics is an emerging field that can offer efficient solutions to real-world problems with minimal cost. Despite recent developments in the field, however, it is still not sufficiently mature, and challenges clearly remain. The dynamic deadline problem is neglected in the literature, and thus, time-sensitive foraging tasks are still an open research problem. This paper proposes a novel approach—ED_Foraging—that allows simple robots with limited sensing and communication abilities to perform complex foraging tasks that are dynamic and time constrained. A new mathematical model is developed in this paper to utilize epidemiological modeling and predict the dynamics of resource deadlines. Moreover, an improved dynamic task allocation (DTA) method is proposed to assign robots to the most critical region, where a deadline is represented by a state and time. The main goal is to reduce the number of expired resources and collect them as quickly as possible by giving priority to those that are more likely to expire if not collected. The deadlines are unknown and change dynamically. Thus, the robots continuously collect local information throughout their journeys and allocate themselves dynamically to the predicted hotspots. In the experiments, the proposed approach is adapted to four DTA methods and tested with different setups using simulated foot-bot robots. The flexibility, scalability, and robustness of this approach are measured in terms of the foraging and expiration rates. The empirical results support the hypothesis that epidemiological modeling can be utilized to handle foraging tasks that are constrained by dynamic deadlines. It is also confirmed that the proposed DTA method improves the results, which were found to be flexible, scalable, and robust to changes in the number of robots and the map size.

Covering algorithms (CAs) constitute a type of inductive learning for the discovery of simple rules to predict future activities. Although this approach produces powerful models for datasets with discrete features, its applicability to problems involving noisy or numeric (continuous) features has been neglected. In real-life problems, numeric values are unavoidable, and noise is frequently produced as a result of human error or equipment limitations. Such noise affects the accuracy of prediction models and leads to poor decisions. Therefore, this paper studies the problem of CAs for data with numeric features and introduces a novel non-discretization algorithm called RULES-CONT. The proposed algorithm uses relational reinforcement learning (RRL) to resolve the current difficulties when addressing numeric and noisy data. The technical details of the algorithm are thoroughly explained to demonstrate that RULES-CONT contribute upon the RULES family by collecting its own knowledge and intelligently re-uses previous experience. The algorithm overcomes the infinite-space problem posed by numeric features and treats these features similarly to those with discrete values, while incrementally discovering the optimal rules for dynamic environments. It is the first RRL algorithm that intelligently induces rules to address continuous and noisy data without the need for discretization or pruning. To support our claims, RULES-CONT is compared with 7 well-known algorithms applied to 27 datasets with four levels of noise using 10-fold cross-validation, and the results are analyzed using box plots and the Friedman test. The results show that the use of RRL results in significantly improved noise resistance compared with all other algorithms and reduces the computation time of the algorithm compared with the preceding version, which does not use relational representation.
