[Introduction] In the face of energy scarcity and carbon reduction imperatives, the transition to clean energy centered on electricity is crucial. To achieve this, power system development must prioritize stability, automation and intelligence. Artificial intelligence (AI) technology is a key means to realize this goal. [Method] This paper introduced the carbon emissions of domestic and foreign power systems at first, and pointed out the difficulties and feasible solutions for low-carbon development of the power system in China on this basis. Then, the application and prospect of AI technology in power system development were discussed. [Result] In response to the transition to low-carbon and low-energy power systems, a series of low-carbon development routes, such as integration of capital and resources in the thermal power industry, low-carbon transition (such as the application of carbon capture technology), and promoting the consumption of and smooth replacement by clean energy, were proposed in this paper. It was also noted that AI technology will play a crucial role in automating, intelligentizing and optimizing power systems, with wide-ranging applications in power dispatching, relay protection, power equipment management, power system stability evaluation, and decision-making processes. [Conclusion] As third-generation AI technology continues to evolve and fourth-generation AI technology emerges, the application of AI technology in the power system will become increasingly widespread.

Background With the gradual increase of infertility in the world, among which male sperm problems are the main factor for infertility, more and more couples are using computer-assisted sperm analysis (CASA) to assist in the analysis and treatment of infertility. Meanwhile, the rapid development of deep learning (DL) has led to strong results in image classification tasks. However, the classification of sperm images has not been well studied in current deep learning methods, and the sperm images are often affected by noise in practical CASA applications. The purpose of this article is to investigate the anti-noise robustness of deep learning classification methods applied on sperm images.Methods The SVIA dataset is a publicly available large-scale sperm dataset containing three subsets. In this work, we used subset-C, which provides more than 125,000 independent images of sperms and impurities, including 121,401 sperm images and 4,479 impurity images. To investigate the anti-noise robustness of deep learning classification methods applied on sperm images, we conducted a comprehensive comparative study of sperm images using many convolutional neural network (CNN) and visual transformer (VT) deep learning methods to find the deep learning model with the most stable anti-noise robustness.Results This study proved that VT had strong robustness for the classification of tiny object (sperm and impurity) image datasets under some types of conventional noise and some adversarial attacks. In particular, under the influence of Poisson noise, accuracy changed from 91.45% to 91.08%, impurity precison changed from 92.7% to 91.3%, impurity recall changed from 88.8% to 89.5%, and impurity F1-score changed 90.7% to 90.4%. Meanwhile, sperm precision changed from 90.9% to 90.5%, sperm recall changed from 92.5% to 93.8%, and sperm F1-score changed from 92.1% to 90.4%.Conclusion Sperm image classification may be strongly affected by noise in current deep learning methods; the robustness with regard to noise of VT methods based on global information is greater than that of CNN methods based on local information, indicating that the robustness with regard to noise is reflected mainly in global information.

Nowadays, the detection of environmental microorganism indicators is essential for us to assess the degree of pollution, but the traditional detection methods consume a lot of manpower and material resources. Therefore, it is necessary for us to make microbial data sets to be used in artificial intelligence. The Environmental Microorganism Image Dataset Seventh Version (EMDS-7) is a microscopic image data set that is applied in the field of multi-object detection of artificial intelligence. This method reduces the chemicals, manpower and equipment used in the process of detecting microorganisms. EMDS-7 including the original Environmental Microorganism (EM) images and the corresponding object labeling files in “.XML” format file. The EMDS-7 data set consists of 41 types of EMs, which has a total of 2,65 images and 13,216 labeled objects. The EMDS-7 database mainly focuses on the object detection. In order to prove the effectiveness of EMDS-7, we select the most commonly used deep learning methods (Faster-Region Convolutional Neural Network (Faster-RCNN), YOLOv3, YOLOv4, SSD, and RetinaNet) and evaluation indices for testing and evaluation. Environmental microorganisms (EMs) are ubiquitous around us and have an important impact on the survival and development of human society. However, the high standards and strict requirements for the preparation of environmental microorganism (EM) data have led to the insufficient of existing related datasets, not to mention the datasets with ground truth (GT) images. This problem seriously affects the progress of related experiments. Therefore, This study develops the Environmental Microorganism Dataset Sixth Version (EMDS-6), which contains 21 types of EMs. Each type of EM contains 40 original and 40 GT images, in total 1680 EM images. In this study, in order to test the effectiveness of EMDS-6. We choose the classic algorithms of image processing methods such as image denoising, image segmentation and object detection. The experimental result shows that EMDS-6 can be used to evaluate the performance of image denoising, image segmentation, image feature extraction, image classification, and object detection methods. In recent years, deep learning has made brilliant achievements in Environmental Microorganism (EM) image classification. However, image classification of small EM datasets has still not obtained good research results. Therefore, researchers need to spend a lot of time searching for models with good classification performance and suitable for the current equipment working environment. To provide reliable references for researchers, we conduct a series of comparison experiments on 21 deep learning models. The experiment includes direct classification, imbalanced training, and hyper-parameters tuning experiments. During the experiments, we find complementarities among the 21 models, which is the basis for feature fusion related experiments. We also find that the data augmentation method of geometric deformation is difficult to improve the performance of VTs (ViT, DeiT, BotNet, and T2T-ViT) series models. In terms of model performance, Xception has the best classification performance, the vision transformer (ViT) model consumes the least time for training, and the ShuffleNet-V2 model has the least number of parameters.

Currently, the field of transparent image analysis has gradually become a hot topic. However, traditional analysis methods are accompanied by large amounts of carbon emissions, and consumes significant manpower and material resources. The continuous development of computer vision enables the use of computers to analyze images. However, the low contrast between the foreground and background of transparent images makes their segmentation difficult for computers. To address this problem, we first analyzed them with pixel patches, and then classified the patches as foreground and background. Finally, the segmentation of the transparent images was completed through the reconstruction of pixel patches. To understand the performance of different deep learning networks in transparent image segmentation, we conducted a series of comparative experiments using patch-level and pixel-level methods. In two sets of experiments, we compared the segmentation performance of four convolutional neural network (CNN) models and a visual transformer (ViT) model on the transparent environmental microorganism dataset fifth version. The results demonstrated that U-Net++ had the highest accuracy rate of 95.32% in the pixel-level segmentation experiment followed by ViT with an accuracy rate of 95.31%. However, ResNet50 had the highest accuracy rate of 90.00% and ViT had the lowest accuracy of 89.25% in the patch-level segmentation experiments. Hence, we concluded that ViT performed the lowest in patch-level segmentation experiments, but outperformed most CNNs in pixel-level segmentation. Further, we combined patch-level and pixel-level segmentation results to reduce the loss of segmentation details in the EM images. This conclusion was also verified by the environmental microorganism dataset sixth version dataset (EMDS-6).
