Although mesna can prevent IFS-induced cystitis by direct binding and neutralization of acrolein, HC symptoms have still been observed clinically in most of these cases. Celery is a powerful healing vegetable that has antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anticancer effects. The current study evaluated the synergistic effects of mesna and celery seed on IFS-induced HC in rabbits.Methods: Twenty male rabbits (four groups) were administered distilled water, IFS, mesna, and mesna+celery seed cotherapy (MCC) for three weeks. The serum and urinary bladder of experimental rabbits underwent biochemical (TNF-α, MDA, iNOS, SOD, GPx, and CAT), histopathological and ultrastructural investigations to evaluate the structural changes of the urinary bladder (UB).Results: IFS injection resulted in severe cystitis with a remarkable increase in the scale of hematuria, elevations of TNF-α, MDA, and iNOS activity, and reduced activity of SOD, GPx, and CAT antioxidants. Additionally, the structure of UB exhibited evident mucosal edema and ulceration. In contrast, the MCC regimen group revealed partial synergistic improvement of all mentioned parameters.Conclusion: IFS induced cystitis by releasing acrolein, which exerted a significant role in the pathogenesis of HC. Abstract Background Anemia is a health problem among infants and children. It is often associated with a decrease in some trace elements (iron, zinc, copper) and an increase in heavy metals as lead. This study was done to determine the association of blood lead level > 10 μg/dl, with the increased risk to anemia, also, to investigate the relationship between anemia and changes in blood iron, zinc and copper levels, and measure lead level in drinking water. The study is a cross-sectional performed on 60 children. Venous blood samples were taken from the studied population for estimating hematological parameters as well as iron and ferritin levels. The concentrations of zinc, copper, and lead were measured. The studied population was divided into anemic and non-anemic (control) groups. The anemic group was further classified into mild, moderate and severe anemia. The study subjects were also categorized into low and high blood lead level groups. Findings Approximately 63.33% of children had blood lead levels ≥ 10 μg/dl. At the blood lead level range of 10-20 μg/dl, a significant association was found for mild and severe anemia. The blood level of iron and ferritin was found to be significantly lower in high blood lead level and anemic groups than those of the low blood lead level and control groups. Lead level in drinking water was higher than the permissible limit. Conclusion Lead level ≥ 10 μg/dl was significantly associated with anemia, decreased iron absorption and hematological parameters affection. High blood lead levels were associated with low serum iron and ferritin. Lead level in drinking water was found to be higher than the permissible limits.

A novel series of azo dyes was successfully synthesized by combining amino benzoic acid and amino phenol on the same molecular framework via azo linkage. The structural elucidation of these dyes was carried out using various spectroscopic techniques, including UV-vis, FT-IR, NMR spectroscopy, and HRMS. Surprisingly, the aromatic proton in some dyes exhibited exchangeability in D 2 O, prompting a 2D NMR analysis to confirm this phenomenon. Furthermore, comprehensive density functional theory (DFT) calculations were conducted to unravel synthetic dyes' geometrical and electronic properties. Meanwhile, the reactivity of various sites was further investigated through Frontier Molecular Orbitals (FMOs) analysis and molecular electrostatic potential mapping. Besides, the experimental NMR spectra were interpreted by incorporating theoretically computed NMR spectrum and reduced density gradient (RDG) function. These computations revealed a pronounced intramolecular hydrogen bond through O-H⋯N interaction that significantly influenced the proton chemical shift. The dyes were assessed for their antimicrobial activities using agar diffusion, micro broth dilution, and biofilm inhibition assays. Interestingly, one of the synthetic dyes showed promising antibacterial effects against S. aureus (ATCC-6538) as well as against a multidrug-resistant MRSA clinical isolate with a MIC (minimum inhibitory concentration) of 78.12 μg mL -1 . Moreover, that dye inhibited biofilm formation of the strong biofilm former clinical MRSA isolate with a concentration as low as 0.25 MIC (19.53 μg mL -1 ). Indeed, our qPCR data suggest that inhibiting the SaeS/SaeR system is another potential mechanism by which D4 exerts its antibacterial and anti-virulence effects. Purpose: The goal of the current study was to clarify the potential molecular mechanism underlying the protective effects of silymarin (SIL) administration against diazinon-induced subacute nephrotoxicity, with a special emphasis on the role of the Kelch-like-associated protein-1 (Keap1)-nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2)-heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) signaling pathway in minimizing the oxidative stress induced by diazinon (DZN)., Methods: Five equal groups of thirty adult male Wistar rats were created at random. Group 1 (G1) was maintained under typical control conditions and administered saline intragastrically (I/G) once daily for 4 weeks; G2 was administered olive oil I/G for 4 weeks; G3 was I/G administered silymarin daily for 4 weeks; G4 was I/G administered diazinon daily for 4 weeks. G5 was I/G administered silymarin daily 1 h before the I/G administration of the diazinon for 4 weeks. Blood samples were collected at the end of the experiment for the determination of complete blood cell count, and kidney function tests. Kidney specimens were collected for the evaluation of the oxidative markers, mRNA gene expression, protein markers, and histopathological examination., Results: SIL reduced the renal dysfunction caused by DZN by restoring urea and creatinine levels, as well as oxidative indicators. Although the expression of Keap-1 was also elevated, overexpression of Nrf2 also enhanced the expression of HO-1, a crucial target enzyme of Nrf2., Conclusions: SIL is hypothesized to potentially aid in the prevention and management of nephrotoxicity caused by DZN., Competing Interests: Declarations. The liver carries out many essential tasks, such as synthesising cholesterol, controlling the body's storage of glycogen, and detoxifying metabolites, in addition to performing, and regulating homeostasis. Hepatic fibrosis is a pathological state characterized by over accumulation of extracellular matrix (ECM) including collagen fibers. Sildenafil (a selective inhibitor of type 5 phosphodiesterase) has anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and anti-apoptotic properties. It is commonly used to treat erectile dysfunction in male. The purpose of the current investigation was to evaluate sildenafil's hepatoprotective potential against liver fibrosis in rats that was caused by carbon tetrachloride (CCl 4 ). Liver enzymes and oxidative markers as well as profibrotic genes were determined. The findings showed that sildenafil alleviates the hepatic dysfunctions caused by CCl 4 by restoring normal levels of ALT, AST, and GGT as well as by restoring the antioxidant status demonstrated by increased glutathione (GSH), and catalase. In addition, a significantly down-regulated the mRNA expressions of profibrotic genes [collagen-1α, IL-1β, osteopontin (OPN), and transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β)]. Additionally, sildenafil lessens the periportal fibrosis between hepatic lobules, congestion and dilatation in the central vein, and the inflammatory cell infiltrations. The potential of plant-based diets and drugs to prevent and control obesity has been attributed to the presence of several biologically active phytochemicals. The study aimed to assess herb consumption's impact on alleviating the risks and hazards associated with obesity induced by a high-fat diet (HFD) and the promotion of fertility. Eighty rats were allocated into four distinct groups. Group 1 (G1) was provided with a basal diet and acted as the control group. Group 2 (G2) was provided with an HFD. Group 3 (G3) was provided with HFD supplemented with chia seeds and Hibiscus sabdariffa L. The fourth group of subjects was provided with HFD supplemented with Foeniculum vulgare (fennel) and Coriandrum sativum L. (coriander). The feeding session was sustained for 10 weeks, and the biochemical parameters were evaluated. The administration of Foeniculum vulgare (fennel) and Coriandrum sativum L. (coriander) (G4) resulted in a more significant reduction in all biochemical parameters compared to G3, which received a diet consisting of chia seeds and Hibiscus sabdariffa L. Additionally, the average number of embryonic lobes and the average number of offspring after birth were found to be considerably more significant in the normal control group (G1) and group (G4) compared to the HFD group (G2) and group (G3) (P < 0.01). Group 4 (G4) was administered a diet enriched with Foeniculum vulgare (fennel) and Coriandrum sativum L. The recently detected clade 2.3.4.4 of the highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) H5N8 virus in poultry encouraged us to study the efficacy of the 6 most extensively used saleable H5 poultry vaccinations (bivalent [AI + ND], Re-5 H5N1, H5N1, H5N3, monovalent AI, monovalent ND) with or without aqueous 8% neem (Azadirachta indica) leaf extract as an immunostimulant. One hundred thirty birds were randomly divided into 7 groups. Groups 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 were divided into 2 subgroups (G1a, G2a, G3a, G4a, G5a, G6a) and (G1b, G2b, G3b, G4b, G5b, G6b) with 10 birds each. Subgroups (G1a, G2a, G3a, G4a, G5a, G6a) received the (bivalent [AI + ND], Re-H5N1, H5N1, H5N3, monovalent AI, monovalent ND) vaccines, while subgroups (G1b, G2b, G3b, G4b, G5b, G6b) received the same previous vaccination but treated with neem leaf extract administrated 2 d before and after vaccination, and G7 with 10 birds was kept unvaccinated as positive control group. Clinical signs of the challenged group showed conjunctivitis, closed eyes, cyanosis in comb and wattle, ocular discharge, and greenish diarrhea, while postmortem lesions showed congested trachea and lung, hemorrhage on the shank, proventriculus, and pancreas; gelatinous fluid submandibular, congestion of all organs (septicemia), mottled spleen. The clinical signs and lesions were mild in neem leaf extract treated with bivalent vaccine and Re-H5N1 while moderate in monovalent vaccine and H5N3 with or without neem leaf extract treated and reached severe in the group immunized with H5N1 with or without neem leaf extract treatment. The protection levels in the bivalent vaccine (AI + ND), Re-5 H5N1, and H5N3 treated with neem leaf extract, were 80%, 80%, and 60%, respectively, while bivalent vaccine (AI + ND), Re-5 H5N1 and H5N3 without treatment were 60%, 60%, and 40%, respectively. The virus shedding was prevented in groups vaccinated with bivalent vaccine and Re-H5N1 vaccine treated with neem leaf extract, while decreased in the group vaccinated with H5N3 with neem leaf extract and Re-H5N1 without neem leaf extract compared with H5N3, H5N1, and monovalent vaccine. The immunological response after vaccination was stronger in the bivalent vaccine group than in the other commercial vaccine groups treated with neem leaf extract, with geometric mean titer (GMTs) of 315.2 and 207.9 at the third and fourth weeks, respectively. The use of immunostimulant antiviral medicinal plants, such as neem, completely protected chicken flocks against HPAI (H5N8) and prevented AI virus shedding, leading us to the conclusion that the use of bivalent vaccines induces a higher immune response than other different commercial vaccines., (Copyright © 2023 The Authors. Spraying a tertiary blend of the insecticides (hexythiazox, imidacloprid, and thiamethoxam), on tomato fruits, is a routine in agriculture-attentive countries. A simple green sample preparation technique was developed and applied to the field samples. Specific HP-TLC and RP-HPLC methodologies are established to estimate the residual insecticides and applied to the prepared field specimens. In the planner chromatographic methodology, methanol:chloroform:glacial acetic acid:triethyl amine (8.5:1.5:0.2:0.1, v/v) is recommended as a mobile system. The other one is columnar chromatography; acetonitrile: water (20:80, v/v), pH 2.8, is recommended as a mobile system. The validation parameters were examined following the ICH rules. The means percentages and standard deviations of the accuracy of the HP-TLC method for the determined compounds were 99.66 ± 0.974, 99.41 ± 0.950, and 99.89 ± 0.983, correspondingly. The values were 99.24 ± 0.921, 99.69 ± 0.681, and 99.20 ± 0.692, correspondingly, when they were determined by the RP-HPLC method. The relative standard deviation percentages of the methods' repeatability and intermediate precision ranged from 0.389 to 0.920. Both methods were highly specific having resolution factors of ≥ 1.78 and selectivity factors of ≥ 1.71. They were applied to the field samples perfectly., (© 2023. The Author(s).)

A novel thiourea derivative has been successfully synthesized via green routes and fully characterized by FT-IR, 1 H, 13 C-NMR, and elemental analysis. The synthetic inhibitor 2-amino- N -(phenylcarbamothioyl) benzamide (APCB) was assessed as a corrosion inhibitor for mild steel (MS) in 0.5 M H 2 SO 4 . Various electrochemical techniques, such as electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and potentiodynamic polarization (PDP), have been used to evaluate inhibition efficiency. As a result, EIS and PDP agreed with each other, indicating that APCB exhibits an inhibition performance that exceeds 96% at a concentration of 2 × 10 -4 M and increases with an increase in temperature up to 98% at 333 K. However, PDP measurements showed that APCB is a mixed type of inhibitor. In addition, SEM, EDX, AFM, and contact angle measurements were used as a topological surface characterization technique that confirmed the formation of a protective layer over the MS surface. Additionally, the complex formation was thoroughly confirmed by UV-Vis measurements. The adsorption of APCB proved the highest compliance with the Langmuir adsorption isotherm. Furthermore, density functional theory (DFT) calculations were conducted to establish the correlation between the electronic structure and excellent inhibition efficiency. Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a dysmetabolic disease characterized by chronic hyperglycemia. In the developed countries, DM is the commonest life style disease that affects both old and young age. Nod-like receptor protein-3 (NLRP3)-mediated pyroptosis may in fact aid in the development of diabetic complications. Quercetin is a natural flavonoid, can be present in natural foods and plants. Many studies have reported the antioxidant role of quercetin on different tissues, but its effects on NLRP3-mediated pyroptosis in diabetic lung are unclear. The current study aimed to assess quercetin's protective effects on lung function, oxidative stress, and NLRP3-mediated pyroptosis in Wister rats exposed to streptozotocin (STZ)-induced DM. Forty male Wister rats were randomly allocated into four equal groups. The groups of rats were as follows: group 1 (G1) was kept under normal control conditions; G2 was injected I/P quercetin at a dose of 30 mg/kg b.wt., daily for 30 days; G3 and G4 were injected with a single dose of streptozotocin (STZ) 50 mg/kg b.wt. I/P to induce DM. After 72-h post diabetes induction, the rats of G4 were treated with quercetin as a manner in the second group. The results showed that quercetin ameliorates the pulmonary dysfunctions caused by DM through restoring the levels of glucose, insulin, and arterial blood gases, as well as the oxidative markers. Also, NLRP3-pyroptosis-mediated IL1β was inhibited. Quercetin also reduces the effect of DM on the lung by decreasing the pathological changes in the lung. In conclusion, NLRP3 inflammasome-induced pyroptosis may aggravate lung injury in diabetic rats. Applications of analytical quality by design (Q b D) approach for developing HPLC (High Performance Liquid Chromatography) methods for food components assays, and separations of complex natural product mixtures, are still limited. The current study developed and validated, for the first time, a stability-indicating HPLC method for simultaneous determinations of curcuminoids in Curcuma longa extracts, tablets, capsules, and curcuminoids' forced degradants under different experimental conditions. Towards separation strategy, critical method parameters (CMPs) were defined as the mobile phase solvents' percent-ratio, the pH of the mobile phase, and the stationary-phase column temperature, while the peaks resolution, retention time, and the number of theoretical plates were recognized as the critical method attributes (CMAs). Factorial experimental designs were used for method development, validation, and robustness evaluation of the procedure. The Monte Carlo simulation evaluated the developing method's operability, and that ensured the concurrent detections of curcuminoids in natural extracts, commercial-grade pharmaceutical dosage-forms, and the forced degradants of the curcuminoids in a single mixture. The optimum separations were accomplished using the mobile phase, consisting of an acetonitrile-phosphate buffer (54:46 v / v , 0.1 mM) with 1.0 mL/min flow rate, 33 °C column temperature, and 385 nm wavelength for UV (Ultra Violet) spectral detections. The method is specific, linear (R2 ≥ 0.999), precise (% RSD < 1.67%), and accurate (% recovery 98.76-99.89%), with LOD (Limit of Detection) and LOQ (Limit of Quantitation) at 0.024 and 0.075 µg/mL for the curcumin, 0.0105 µg/mL and 0.319 µg/mL for demethoxycurcumin, and 0.335 µg/mL and 1.015 µg/mL for the bisdemethoxycurcumin, respectively. The method is compatible, robust, precise, reproducible, and accurately quantifies the composition of the analyte mixture. It exemplifies the use of the Q b D approach in acquiring design details for developing an improved analytical detection and quantification method.

Malaria is a disease caused by protozoan species of the genus Plasmodium . It is widespread and becoming a challenge in several African countries in the tropical and subtropical regions. In 2010, a report was published showing that over 1.2 million death cases were occurred globally due to malaria in just one year. The transmission of the disease from one person to another occurs via the bite of the Anopheles female. It is known that Plasmodium ovale, P. vivax , P. malariae , P. falciparum, and P. knowlesi are the highly infective malaria species. The problem of this disease is the absence of any effective medical treatment or vaccine, making the mosquito control is the only feasible way for disease prevention. Pesticides are currently the most widely used method for mosquito control, despite its well-known negative effects, including health hazards on human, the increasing insecticidal resistance, and the negative impact on the environment and beneficial organisms. Biological control (also called: biocontrol) of insects has been a promising method to overcome the negative effects of using chemical insecticides, as it depends on just using the natural enemies of pests to either minimize their populations or eradicate them. This article provides an overview of the recent and effective biological means to control malaria, such as bacteria, fungi, viruses, larvivorous fish, toxorhynchites larva and nematodes. The present work is concerned with tailoring and appraisal of a novel nano-cargo; bilosomes (BLS) dual laded with doxylamine succinate (DAS) and pyridoxine hydrochloride (PDH), the first treatment option against gestational nausea and vomiting, for intranasal delivery. This bifunctional horizon could surmount constraints of orally-commercialized platforms both in dosage regimen and pharmacokinetic profile. For accomplishing this purpose, DAS/PDH-BLS were elaborated integrating phospholipid, sodium cholate and cholesterol applying thin-film hydration method based on Box-Behnken design. Utilizing Design-Expert® software, the effect of formulation variables on BLS physicochemical features alongside the optimal formulation selection were investigated. Then, the optimum DAS/PDH-BLS formulation was incorporated into a thermally-triggered in situ gelling base. The in vivo pharmacokinetic studies were explored in rats for intranasal DAS/PDH-BLS in situ gel compared with analogous intranasal free in situ gel and oral solution. The optimized BLS disclosed vesicle size of 243.23 nm, ζ potential of -31.33 mV, entrapment efficiency of 59.18 and 41.63%, accumulative % release within 8 h of 63.30 and 85.52% and accumulative permeated amount over 24 h of 347.92 and 195.4 µg/cm 2 for DAS/PDH, respectively. Following intranasal administration of the inspected BLS in situ gel, pharmacokinetic studies revealed a 1.64- and 2.3-fold increment in the relative bioavailability of DAS and a 1.7- and 3.73-fold increase for PDH compared to the intranasal free in situ gel and oral solution, respectively besides significantly extended mean residence times for both drugs. Background: The demand for abdominoplasty procedures has increased in surgical centres as a result of patient preference and economic concerns. The International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS) published the Facility Accreditation Guideline on 22 October 2018. It is a list of recommendations that aim to reduce the incidence of complications and increase safety standards., Objectives: The objective of this work was to detect the effects of the ISAPS guidelines on the morbidity associated with abdominoplasty procedures in day care surgical centres., Methods: The authors performed a retrospective study. Data regarding complications of abdominoplasty were collected from medical records of the last 350 cases of abdominoplasty performed in December 2018. The complications and their incidences were compared with similar previously published data of abdominoplasty operations performed by other authors and in surgical centres before initiation of the ISAPS Facility Accreditation Guideline., Results: In all cases, we achieved a significant reduction in skin and adipose tissue with improvement in body shape. The incidence of major and minor post-operative complications was lower than that reported in other literature., Conclusions: This report shows that abdominoplasty is a safe procedure with low complication rates, which are even lower when the ISAPS Facility Accreditation Guideline is followed together with national, regional, state and other legal requirements., Level of Evidence Iv: This journal requires that authors assign a level of evidence to each article. In the present study, we aimed to formulate, optimize, and characterize azithromycin chitosan coated niosomes (AZM-CTS-NSM) as a novel colloidal system that increases precorneal residence period, eye permeation, and bioavailability. AZM-NSM was formulated via a modified thin-film hydration strategy and then coated with CTS. We assessed the influence of the cholesterol: surfactant molar ratio, CTS concentration, and surfactant type on particle diameter, entrapment, zeta potential, and NSM adhesion force to the corneal mucosal membrane and employed a central composite design (CCD). The resulting optimized AZM-CTS-NSM has a mean diameter of 376 nm, entrapment of 74.2%, surface charge of 32.1 mV, and mucoadhesion force of 3114 dyne/cm 2 . The optimized AZM-CTS-NSM demonstrated a prolonged in vitro release behavior. When compared with commercial eye drops, the optimized AZM-CTS-NSM produced a 2.61-fold increase in the apparent permeability coefficient, significantly improving corneal permeability. Additionally, ocular irritation was assessed, with no major irritant effects found to be induced by the formulated NSM. Compared with AZM commercial drops, the optimized AZM-CTS-NSM revealed ˃ 3-fold increase in AZM concentration in the rabbit eyes. CIP2A is an oncoprotein that is overexpressed in multiple solid tumours and some malignant haematologic disorders. However, its function in glioma is poorly understood. In this study, our results demonstrated that the expression of CIP2A was higher in glioma tissues than in normal tissues. Using tissue microarrays for immunohistochemistry, we found that the intensity of CIP2A expression was higher in high-grade gliomas (grade III-IV) than in low-grade gliomas (grade I-II). In addition, we found that depletion of CIP2A inhibited glioma cell proliferation, migration, invasion and epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) in vitro. Taken together, our findings revealed that CIP2A was involved in glioma progression, indicating that CIP2A could be used as a potential therapeutic target in the future., (Copyright © 2021. An increasing important area in immunology is the process cell death mechanism, enabling the immune system triggered thru extrinsic or intrinsic signals to effectively remove unwanted or virus infected cells called apoptosis. A recently isolated infectious Snakehead fish vesiculovirus (SHVV), comprising negative strand RNA and encoded viral matrix (M) proteins, is responsible for causing cytopathic effects in infected fish cells. However, the mechanism by which viral M protein mediates apoptosis has not been elucidated. Therefore, in the present experiments, it was investigated the regulatory potential of apoptosis signals during SHVV infection. By employing the model of SHVV infection in SSN-1 cells, the accelerated apoptosis pathway involves an intrinsic pathway requiring the activation of caspase-9 but not caspase-3 or -8. In the groups of infection (SHVV) or treatment (hydrogen peroxide) were induced apoptotic morphological changes and indicated the activation of the main caspases, i.e.; executioner caspase-3, initiators caspase-8 and caspase-9 using colorimetric assays. Turning to the role of viral M protein when it was overexpressed in SSN-1 cells, it was indicated that the viral M gene alone has the ability to induce apoptosis. To elucidate the mechanism of apoptosis in SSN-1 cells, the activation inhibitors of main caspases were used showing that inhibiting of caspase-3 or caspase-8 activation did not seize induction of apoptosis in virus-infected SSN-1 cells. However, the inhibiting of caspase-9 activation reduced significantly the apoptosis initiation process and sharply the expression of viral M gene, suggesting that SHVV plays a major role in the early induction of apoptosis by caspase-9. Interestingly, there were also differences in the mitochondrial membrane potential after the apoptotic induction of caspases, which confirm that caspase-9 is primarily responsible for the cleavage of caspases during apoptosis. Carbon tetrachloride (CCl 4 ) is a strong hepatotoxic agent. The ability of the anti-inflammatory agent, lactoferrin (LF), to alleviate hepatic inflammation in a Wistar rat model administered with carbon tetrachloride (CCl 4 ) was examined. Thirty male Wistar rats were segregated into 5 groups (6 rats per group): Control group, LF group (300 mg LF/kg b. wt daily for three weeks), CCl 4 group (1 ml CCl 4 /kg b. wt once orally), LF-protected group (300 mg LF/kg b. wt daily for 3 weeks followed by 1 mL CCl 4 /kg b. wt once orally), and LF-treated group (1 mL CCl 4 /kg b.wt once orally followed by 300 mg LF/kg b. wt orally every day for three weeks). Erythrogram, leukogram, activity of oxidative stress markers (Superoxide dismutase [SOD], Glutathione peroxidase [GPx], and Malondialdehyde [MDA]), and expression of hepatic paraoxonase-1 (PON1), interleukin (IL)-1β, and IL-10 mRNA were determined. Histopathological examination of the hepatic tissue was carried out. CCl 4 caused liver injury, loss of liver antioxidant activity of SOD and GPx, and a significant increase in the level of malondialdehyde in the serum. Moreover, CCl 4 induced up-regulation of hepatic pro-inflammatory (IL-1β) factors, and down-regulation of anti-inflammatory (IL-10 and PON1) factors. Based on histopathological examination, the hepatic tissues had severe inflammation and were damaged. However, LF mitigated the liver damage, oxidative stress, and hepatotoxicity caused by CCl 4 . Overall, these results suggest that LF-mediated immunological mechanisms alleviate CCl4-induced hepatic toxicity and provide a novel perspective on the potential use of LF for prophylactic and therapeutic applications in treating liver diseases.

The present study investigated the accumulation and depuration effects of hexavalent chromium (Cr 6+ ) in ten tissues (gills, intestines, liver, kidney, blood, heart, bladder, spleen, skin and muscle) of the bighead carp (Aristichthys nobilis). Fish were exposed to graded levels of waterborne Cr 6+ (0.01, 0.1, 1 and 5 mg/L) for 4, 7 and 14 days, and subsequently transferred to Cr 6+ -free water for 14 days. After 14-day exposure, a dose-dependent increase of Cr 6+ has been observed in most tissues. While after 14-day depuration, Cr 6+ contents were significantly decreased in various tissues except in kidney and spleen where Cr 6+ contents significantly increased at the group of 5 mg/L. Considering that Cr 6+ highly accumulated in gills, intestines, liver and kidney, the oxidative damage of Cr 6+ on the four tissues were further investigated and found that the antioxidant response to Cr 6+ were organ-specific. The results in this study indicated that a 14-day period is effective for accumulation and depuration of Cr 6+ in bighead carp and there was no health risk of fish muscle consumption. Additionally, the delayed efflux of Cr 6+ in the fish kidney and spleen indicates that high importance should be attached to them when evaluating the toxic effects and risk assessments of Cr 6+ ., (Copyright © 2020. Fluoroquinolones are some of the most common antibiotics used by clinicians all over the world. Levofloxacin, a fluoroquinolone, is used therapeutically in numerous countries; however, it can cause an increase in liver function tests and liver dysfunction. The current study was designed to determine the effect of Levofloxacin (40 mg/kg body weight (b.wt.) daily for 2 weeks) on rat liver function and oxidative stress markers as well as to evaluate the potential hepatoprotective effects of Moringa oleifera leaf extract as a known antioxidant herb. M. oleifera leaf extract was found to improve the hepatic dysfunction induced by Levofloxacin by recovering liver enzymatic activities (alanine aminotransferase [ALT], aspartate aminotransferase [AST] and gamma-glutamyl transferase [GGT]) to normal levels. The extract also reversed the antioxidant imbalance as measured by catalase and superoxide dismutase activities as well as by reduced glutathione and malondialdehyde levels. Moreover, M. oleifera leaf extract induced anti-inflammation by improving the production of interleukin (IL)-10. Additionally, its presence attenuated the downregulation of IL-1 induced by Levofloxacin alone from hepatic tissue. It can be concluded that M. oleifera extract can help reduce the side effects caused by Levofloxacin administration.

Aflatoxicosis is a serious health condition resulted from aflatoxin (AF)-producing fungi. Major health threats resulted from AFs and reflect on the livestock industry with great economic losses. There are limited scientific evidences concerning the AFs in ruminant, therefore it is important to evaluate AFs health hazards in cattle. Here, we investigate biochemical, oxidative stress, and postmortem changes associated with unexpected acute bovine aflatoxicosis. Seventy-two cattle were suffered from aflatoxisocis. Depression and inappetence were predominant clinical findings of the diseased animals. Analysis of feedstuffs revealed presence of aflatoxin B1 (AFB1). The AF-intoxicated animals showed a significant increase in alanine amino transferase (ALT), aspartate amino transferase (AST), alkaline phosphatase (ALP), serum creatinine (SCr), catalase (CAT), and malondialdehyde (MDA) levels. Moreover, a significant decrease in total protein (TP), magnesium (Mg), and reduced glutathione (GSH) were also seen. Hepatomegaly, enlarged gallbladder as well as congestion of the intestine and kidney were observed. This study elucidates the critical and constructive measurements needed for the prevention of the AFs hazardous effects to livestock for the future control of AF outbreaks. Conducting series of diagnostic assays reflect the marked health condition alterations in the biochemical and antioxidant status of the AF-intoxicated cattle.
