Abrupt changes in ocean biogeochemical variables occur as a result of human-induced climate forcing as well as those which are more gradual and occur over longer timescales. These abrupt changes have not yet been identified and quantified to the same extent as the more gradual ones. We review and synthesise abrupt changes in ocean biogeochemistry under human-induced climatic forcing. We specifically address the ocean carbon and oxygen cycles because the related processes of acidification and deoxygenation provide important ecosystem hazards. Since biogeochemical cycles depend also on the physical environment, we also describe the relevant changes in warming, circulation, and sea ice. We include an overview of the reversibility or irreversibility of abrupt marine biogeochemical changes. Important implications of abrupt biogeochemical changes for ecosystems are also discussed. We conclude that there is evidence for increasing occurrence and extent of abrupt changes in ocean biogeochemistry as a consequence of rising greenhouse gas emissions.

Der über Jahrzehnte etablierte Zusammenhang von Pop und Jugend ist zuletzt brüchig geworden und einem vielschichtigen Diskurs über Altersphasen im Pop gewichen. Diese Reflexionen zeigen sich auch zu-nehmend in Musikvideos. Im Zentrum unseres Aufsatzes stehen Musikvideos, in denen erwachsene Künstler*innen über die Lebensphase der Jugend erzählen. Mit dem Modus der Rückschau geht einher, dass diese Narrative mit der (Re-) Mediatisierung (Bolter und Grusin) von Jugend arbeiten: Als Bezugspunkte dienen klassische Coming-of-Age-Filme sowie Heim-Videos und Familienarchive, die teilweise in naher Verwandtschaft zum Musikdokumentarfilm Sequenzen persönlicher Archive mit zeitgeschichtlichem Material verweben. Am Bei-spiel neuerer Musikvideos von Tocotronic, Men I Trust, Molly Nilsson, Botschaft und den Goldenen Zitronen diskutieren wir, inwiefern über die spezifische Medialität und Ästhetik dieser Videos Jugend als fundamental mediatisierter, nostalgischer und häufig generationell codierter Sehnsuchtsort imaginiert wird.

War die Science-Fiction (SF) bis 1950 in Hollywood kaum präsent und in den folgenden zwei Jahrzehnten primär ein Billig-Genre, bildet sie heute in der Form crossmedialer Franchises eine der tragenden Säulen der großen Hollywood-Studios. Zugleich ist SF durch ihre Verfremdungsleistung aber ein potenziell kritisches und subversives Genre; auch die SF-Fans verstehen sich traditionell als aufgeklärte, progressive Subkultur. Durch die extreme Kommerzialisierung des Genres rücken diese Tendenzen zwar in den Hintergrund, sie sind in einzelnen Filmen aber nach wie vor präsent.

The study, commissioned by the European Parliament’s Policy Department for Citizens’ Rights and Constitutional Affairs at the request of the JURI Committee, provides an assessment of the ongoing work of the Hague Conference on the Judgments Convention. The analysis focuses on the November 2017 Draft Convention, its interplay with relevant international and Union instruments, and its potential impact on the regulation of civil and commercial cross-border disputes, generally.
