This study aimed to investigate the interplay between subjective well-being (SWB), social media engagement (SME), and compulsive buying behavior (CBB). It explored long-term and reciprocal connections among these factors using a longitudinal design with a 2-wave investigation of 226 employees from various sectors in Jakarta, Indonesia. Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) cross-lagged analysis found that SWB at Time 1/Time 2 negatively predicted SME and CBB at the same times, indicating long-term influences. Additionally, SME at Time 1 and CBB at Time 2 significantly predicted SWB at Time 2. The study also found a positive relationship between SME and CBB at both times. This research contributes to the literature by empirically examining the reciprocal relationship among SWB, SME, and CBB, focusing on the association between SWB and CBB. AbstractThis study aimed to examine the relationships among workplace civility, social cohesion, and job embeddedness, and to measure the moderating effect of work overload on these relationships. Three hundred twelve respondents from various job sectors in Indonesia participated in this study. All hypotheses were examined using hierarchical multiple regression analysis using Hayes’ macro PROCESS. Workplace civility was positively and significantly related to social cohesion and employee job embeddedness. This study also found that social cohesion mediates the relationship between workplace civility and job embeddedness. Work overload was found to be a moderator in the relationship between workplace civility-job embeddedness and social cohesion-job embeddedness, such as these relationships are stronger when the work overload is low and vice versa.

AbstractThis study aims to ascertain how talent management promotes employee thriving at work and voice behavior. Drawing an integrated self-determination theory and socially embedded model of thriving, person-organizational fit (P-O fit) is also explored as a moderator of these relationships. A moderated mediation procedure was applied to test the model based on a two-wave data collectiong of 406 employees from various sectors in Indonesia using Macro Process 4.0. The results reveal that talent management positively correlates with thriving at work and employee voice. Thriving at work is positively associated with employee voice and is an intermediate role between talent management and voice relationship. Finally, P-O fit plays a dual role: as an antecedent of thriving at work and employee voice and also moderates the link talent management to thriving at work and employee voice. The originality study was established by investigating talent management as an antecedent of employee voice and uncovering the nature of the relationship between the two through the mediating and moderating effect of thriving at work and person-organizational fit. Human resource management practitioners could use the study results to develop talent management to build employee thriving at work and proactive behavior in a constructive voice.

This study aims to uncover the direct and indirect effects of Islamic work ethics (IWE) on prosocial voice behavior in the education sector in Indonesia. Organizational identification has also been investigated extensively as a mediator and moderator of the relationship between IWE and prosocial voice. Self-rated questionnaires were distributed to teaching staff at various universities, and 271 participants were selected for analysis and hypothesis testing. The PLS-SEM results confirmed that IWE positively affect organizational identification and prosocial voice. It was also confirmed that organizational identification acts as a mediator and effective moderator of the relationship between IWE and prosocial voice. This study adds to the knowledge of IWE literature by examining its role in developing organizational identity and prosocial voice. Furthermore, this study offers new insight by exploring the multi-role of organizational identification in the proposed model.

In response to an empirical study on scarcity cues in COVID-19, the present study offers a model of the relationship between scarcity cues and revisit intention by integrating perceived value and sensory brand experiences (SBE). The moderation mediation model (MOD MED) was tested using 426 respondents who were university students in Jakarta. The results of the analysis show that scarcity cues have a negative impact on perceived value and revisit intention. The process model has been confirmed through the role of perceived value in the scarcity cues relationship. SBE in this study has an essential role as a bearing for the negative effect of scarcity cues on perceived value and revisit intention. Hence, this study offers a theoretical contribution to the proposed model and a practical one regarding the effectiveness of "scarcity cues" marketing strategies. Humility is a leadership model inherent in Asian culture and is believed to impact employees' productive behavior and attitudes positively. By examining how leader humility affects the workplace's civility climate and innovative work behavior (IWB), the current study seeks to address the scarcity of studies on these relationships. We also posited that the perceived civility climate mediated the relationship between leader humility and IWB and examined the role of job insecurity as a boundary condition. PLS-SEM was applied to test hypotheses from data on 328 employees in various sectors in Jakarta. The analysis results indicate humility could promote perceived civility and innovative work behavior. In addition, we discovered that civility climate acted as a mediator in leader humility and IWB relationship. Moreover, we empirically reveal unique findings regarding the role of job insecurity as a moderator in the leader-humility-IWB and civility climate-IWB relationship. The present study is the first attempt to explore the role of intermediate civility climate in the relationship between leader humility and IWB. Moreover, we add job insecurity as a boundary condition to provide new insights into explaining IWB

Abstract The COVID-19 pandemic has raised many problems in the education sector, one of which is the increasing trend toward student loneliness owing to a lack of interpersonal connections in online learning activities. The present study explicitly aims to examine the relationship between loneliness and academic achievement for university students in Indonesia. Moreover, we propose moderating God’s locus of control (i.e., God’s control over behavior-related learning) (GLC) and learning student engagement, playing mediating roles in these relationships. The data were collected from 324 respondents among university students in Indonesia during emergency remote teaching. The moderated-mediated regression analysis using Hayes’ PROCESS macro found loneliness negatively related to engagement and academic achievement. Student engagement had a positive relationship with academic achievement and served as a mediator between loneliness and academic achievement. Furthermore, GLC was found to moderate the relationship between loneliness and learning engagement as well as loneliness and academic achievement. This study’s findings uncover GLC’s role as a boundary condition, and confirms that learning-engagement intermediates the relationship between loneliness and academic achievement. Students with high perceived God control tend to anticipate the impact of loneliness on learning behavior amid isolation and loneliness because of the pandemic.

This study aims to explore the gender differences in the relationships between leader-member exchange (LMX), job embeddedness, and turnover intention. Hypotheses formulation was conducted by integrating conservation of resources (COR) theory and social role theory, and data were collected from 462 respondents who were employed in various sectors in Indonesia. Data analyses included confirmatory factor analysis to evaluate the measurement model, followed by mediation-moderation analysis by using the PROCESS macro. As hypothesized, LMX showed a positive impact on job embeddedness and a negative impact on turnover intention. Job embeddedness was negatively associated with turnover intention, partially mediating the relationship between LMX quality and turnover intention. This study showed that gender moderated the relationships between LMX, job embeddedness, and turnover intention; this was particularly evident in the female participants. This study contributes to the literature on the significance of LMX quality and job embeddedness by exploring gender-specific roles, thus strengthening the existing knowledge base.

This study explored the effect of humor on teacher–student relationship quality (TSRQ) and student engagement by uncovering the mediating role of TSRQ and the moderating role of individual differences (personal sense of humor). Data were collected using a cross-sectional time-lag approach with 2 phases; 367 students participated. The hypotheses were tested with a moderated mediation model. Perceived humor was positively related to TSRQ and student engagement. The results also confirmed the mediating role of TSRQ; a sense of humor positively moderated the relationship between perceived related humor and TSRQ, as well as perceived related humor and student engagement. The present study uncovers the relationship between humor and relationship quality in learning settings. Moreover, our study provides the first empirical data on the mediating effects of TSRQ on perceived related humor and student engagement. It also reveals the role of individual differences (sense of humor) in the proposed model.

PurposeDrawing on the approach—inhibition theory of power and the containment theory of control—we propose a relationship model of leader humility, sense of power, and interpersonal deviance, by placing bureaucratic culture as a boundary condition.Design/Methodology/ApproachUsing a moderated mediation model, this study applies hierarchical regression and bootstrapping analyses to data obtained from online questionnaire responses of 428 employees from various sectors in Indonesia.FindingsThe results reveal a positive relationship between leader humility and employees perceptions of the sense of power, as well as between the sense of power to interpersonal deviance. In addition, we confirmed the mediating role of the sense of power on the relationship between leader humility and interpersonal deviant. Bureaucratic culture has been confirmed to moderate the relationship between a sense of power and interpersonal deviance.Practical ImplicationsCompanies can provide leadership training to leaders to convey to them when and where to demonstrate humility. Furthermore, the effectiveness of leaders' humility can be increased and their sense of power and interpersonal deviance reduced if the company adopts a low-level bureaucratic culture.Originality/ValueThe current study contributes to the extant literature by revealing the moderating effects of bureaucratic culture on the relationship between the sense of power and interpersonal deviance, clarifying how, and when employees' sense of power stimulates interpersonal deviance in the Asian context.

This study examined the reliability and validity of a measure of classroom incivility within an Indonesian context. Data were collected from 334 participants through two stages of online questionnaire distribution. The measurement quality was evaluated through seven stages of partial least squares confirmatory composite analysis (PLS-CCA). Our findings confirm the multidimensionality of classroom incivility (class disruption, disrespectful communication, integrity violation, and use of the cell phone). In addition, all sub-scales of classroom incivility were negatively related to civility and prosocial behavior, and no significant difference was found between male and female students. Higher education institutions in Indonesia can use this instrument as a supplementary tool to evaluate the level of classroom incivility. We also discuss its practical implications in educational settings in general and offer suggestions for future research on classroom incivility in non-Western countries.

Abstract This study aims to examine the relationship between workplace and classroom incivility to learning engagement and the moderating role of internal locus of control in these relationships. An online questionnaire was administered to 432 students from three private universities in Jakarta, Indonesia. The regression analysis results showed that both workplace and classroom incivility has a negative and significant effect on learning engagement. In addition, the direct effect of workplace incivility on learning engagement is moderated by the locus of control. The negative effect of workplace incivility on learning engagement is stronger for students with low levels of internal locus of control than for those students with high levels of internal locus of control. This study provides a better understanding of the internal mechanism condition to reduce the negative effects of incivility experiences that occur in the workplace and classroom among student employees. The implications and limitations are also discussed.

The present study introduces the qualitative and quantitative results obtained in a pilot study of emergency remote teaching (ERT) evaluation in Indonesian higher education. In particular, this study aims to provide basic principles for future ERT implementation. Seven universities in Indonesia were involved in the first phase of the study, aiming to obtain initial information regarding the relevance, content validity, and readability of fundamental initial principles of ERT. The second phase aims to assess the quality ERT scale quality using confirmatory composite analysis (CCA) procedure, involving 2,957 undergraduate students from 22 universities in ten provinces in Indonesia. The results seem to indicate that the ERT principles can be viewed as 1) a complementary tool for ERT design covering five principles including simplicity, accessibility, affordability, flexibility, and empathy; and 2) In Indonesian higher education, affordability and flexibility are the two principles that are rated the lowest based on students' experiences. The lack of access to a fast, affordable, and reliable Internet connection in some areas of Indonesia is a fundamental problem in implementing ERT. This result is likely to be the case in other developing countries with similar geographical characteristics. The findings provide information based on practical experience - showing that learning design in a crisis is dynamic and open to revision based on socio-economic considerations, technological infrastructure, and students 'and teachers' readiness.

The purpose of this paper is to compare the relationship between workplace incivility, self-efficacy, and employees' turnover intentions based on gender in Indonesian work settings. The mediating roles of self-efficacy on the relationships between workplace incivility and turnover intention were also investigated. Data were collected randomly from 300 employees at various companies in Jakarta via the self-assessment questionnaires and, thereafter, partial least square multi-group analysis (PLS-MGA) was performed to analyze the data. According to result, workplace incivility had significant negative effects on self-efficacy, and a positive effect on turnover intention. Self-efficacy had significant positive effects on turnover intention, and confirmed the mediating role of self-efficacy between workplace incivility-turnover intention relationship. Coefficient analysis shows the strength of the relationship between variables varied by gender. Implications for organizations are discussed.

The purpose of this study is to examine workplace incivility in work engagement and employee turnover intention in the work place in Indonesia. In addition, this study also examines the differences in intensity of these relationships by gender.In total, 644 employees from various business industries in Indonesia completed a quantitative survey relating to their perceptions of workplace incivility, work engagement, and turnover intention. Data were analyzed with partial least square multi-group analysis technique (PLS-MGA).The results show that workplace incivility has a negative effect on work engagement, and a positive effect on turnover intention, and the intensity of these relationships differby gender. Work engagement has been shown to have a negative effect on turnover intentions and to play a mediating role in workplace incivility and turnover intention relationship.Relevant recommendations are presented to HR managers and practitioners to prevent unethical practices in organizations and encourage communication and interaction by promoting civil behavior in the workplace.

The aim of this paper is to examine relationships among organizational learning, imitating capability, innovation and competitiveness advantage in the small and medium enterprise (SME). Furthermore, the paper also examines the mediation effect of innovation in the relationship between organizational learning and imitating capability to competitiveness advantage. Using empirical data drawn from 200 SMEs managers in Indonesia, the data were analyzed using partial least squares variance-based structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM). Results indicate that that organizational learning and imitating capability were an important determinant of organizational innovation and competitive advantage. Innovation had a positive relationship with competitiveness and has a mediating role in the relationship between organizational learning and imitating capability to competitiveness advantage. The implication of this study is that SMEs can increase their competitiveness through learning and imitating strategies that are applied simultaneously. This research is original in that it deliberately focuses on learning and imitating capability in low-technology SMEs, especially in the Indonesian context. Through learning, imitating capability, and innovation, SMEs in Indonesia can maintain a competitive position in the ASEAN free market.

This paper aims to clarify the relationship among bureaucratic culture, empowering leadership, knowledge sharing behavior and affective commitment in the Indonesian public sector organizations. A total of 371 respondents from eleven local government public service institutions participated in this research. Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) was used for model testing. The results of this study indicate that bureaucratic culture has a negative and significant relationship with empowering leadership and affective commitment. Empowering leadership has a positive and significant impact on knowledge sharing behavior and affective commitment, and also mediated the relationship between bureaucratic culture with knowledge sharing behavior and affective commitment. The direct relationship between bureaucratic culture and knowledge sharing behavior proved insignificant, however, indirectly proved significant via empowering leadership. The tests of such relationship are expected to contribute to the theory and practice of the government sector.

This research aims to develop a measurement tool of service quality in Islamic banking sector, and examine its relationship among satisfaction, word of mouth (WOM), and consumer loyalty. A convenience sampling of 235 respondents collected from seven locations in the Lhokseumawe, Aceh. Partial least square -structural equation modeling- (PLS-SEM) was used to test the research hypotheses. The results revealed that the quality of service has four dimensions, they are: service portfolio and assurance/SPA, tangibles/TAN, reliability of communication/COM, and Islamic values/IVA. The PLS-SEM results suggest that SPA and COM are dominant factors affecting satisfaction, and satisfaction were significantly related to WOM and loyalty. The global crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic has challenged educational institutions worldwide to rapidly shift to an online mode of teaching. In this paper, we discuss the concept of emergency remote teaching (ERT), including its implementation and evaluation, in the context of higher education in Indonesia. The Context, Input, Process, and Product framework was used to evaluate the implementation of ERT based on the experiences of 45 faculty members and 82 students from seven universities and colleges in three provinces in Indonesia. This study revealed several points of view. First, the shift to the ERT process depends on various aspects: internal organizational resources (curriculum, staff development, and technology), and external challenges (lack of access to a fast, affordable, and reliable Internet connection and the socioeconomic problems of the participants). Second, the ERT learning design needs to be framed using three principles: simplicity, flexibility, and empathy. The schools/administrators understand that this is not a normal situation in which learning competency standards must be rigorously met. In a crisis, given the facts that show disparities in technology and Internet networks, curriculum fulfillment is not the sole issue; it is also important to care for and support learners during this difficult time. This study provides recommendations that will serve as input for future strategies and educational policies in Indonesia, and developing countries in general. Additionally, this study can also be used as a benchmark for evaluating learning in similar situations in other countries.

This study investigated the impact of loneliness on academic self-efficacy (ASE) and student engagement in the context of remote teaching during the COVID-19 pandemic. Moreover, as a boundary condition, we examined the role of intermediate ASE in the relationship between loneliness, student engagement, and perceived humor in learning. A total of 367 undergraduate students from six universities in Indonesia completed an online questionnaire. Data were analyzed using Macro Process version 4 to test the moderating mediation model hypothesis. As expected, the study results show that loneliness is negatively related to ASE and student engagement. ASE is proven to affect student engagement positively; concurrently, it plays an intermediate role in the link between loneliness and student engagement. Finally, humor had a significant moderating effect on learning in the tested model. This study contributes to the existing literature on loneliness and student engagement by uncovering the intermediate role of ASE. Drawing on the social cognitive theory (SCT) and instructional humor processing theory (IHTP), we explored how perceived humor in learning moderates the relationships between loneliness, ASE, and student engagement.
