During the XXth century, intensive agricultural practices has been spread and allowed an important increase of productivity, especially thanks to scientific and technical innovations. Nevertheless, this change had consequences on biodiversity, quality of ecosystems and landscapes by a simplification of wine areas. In addition, sociocultural pressures toward agricultural practices had become stronger and stronger. In response, many mobilizations had begun to emerge, especially in the wine sector. For some years, we observed a real dynamic of the sector at the environmental level with the creation of many approaches which are promoting sustainable wine practices. These certifications are various and come up to consumers' wishes for products which are respectful of environment. They can be carried by productors associations, wine regions, cooperatives, wine companies or public authorities. We have inventoried in 22 countries a total of 54 environmental certifications among which 33 are dedicated to viticulture. We categorize them through: the scale (local, national, international), the area (vine, vine and wine, multi agricultural sector), the subjects treated (environment, economic, social) and the dynamic of the approach (voluntary, compulsory, individual or collective). This article informs and sensitizes the actors of wine sector to the diversity of environmental approaches in the world.

In 2014, the French public authorities launched the agroecological project for France. This project aimed at starting the transition of French agriculture towards new production systems that are more efficient in the economic, social, and environmental dimensions. As a result, work involving the French Institute of Vine and Wine (IFV) and the National Institute of Origin and Quality (INAO), led to the publication of a “Guide for agroecology in viticulture” in early 2017. In early 2022, the guide was revised to become the “Guide for Agroecological Transition & Climate Change”. "Representation of the agroecological transition in viticulture", and the new agroecological themes - climate, soil, air, and atmosphere - have been created; the corresponding regulatory or possible agri-environmental measures have been created or updated. This “Guide for agroecological transition & climate change in viticulture” is a reference document accessible to all, which helps to understand the issues and design the future of viticulture. It is also a great tool to demonstrate the commitment of French vineyards to environmental transition. The guide has received the sponsorship of the Ministry of Agriculture and is prefaced by the Minister of Agriculture.

In 2016, the National Institute of Origin and Quality (INAO), in charge of French geographical indications (GI), validated the integration of agrienvironmental measures into specifications of French GIs. A work involving the French Institute of Vine and Wine (IFV) and INAO resulted in the publication of a “Guide for agroecology in viticulture” in early 2017. This guide describes agroecological measures that can be integrated into the production rules of French GIs. Those measures are classified according to the five themes initially identified by INAO. An agrienvironmental measure is the implementation of a strategic orientation articulated on the five themes of agroecology. Each measure is constructed on the basis of the knowledge of sustainable viticulture, the evolution of practices, examples already existing in the regions, including the specifications of the GIs. Accessible to all, the ambition of this guide is to provide technical benchmarks for winegrowers who wish to develop their practices individually or collectively in order to initiate or deepen an agrienvironmental approach.

Agro-ecology is a way of practicing agriculture by as well as possible using the operation and the resources of nature while preserving its capacitances of renewal. This approach mainly aims at reconciling agricultural development, environmental protection and biodiversity. In France, following a report coordinated by Mr. Guillou, this approach was encouraged at the end of 2012 by the Ministry for Agriculture, the Agroecology and the Forest with for objective reconciling economic and social environmental performances. For the viticulture, the challenges relate mainly to the reduction of the use of the plant health products. Within this framework, beyond the tweaking of the application of the plant health products, the vineyards must develop agro-ecological structures favorable to the biodiversity and valorization of the landscapes, support of eco-winetourism. They are made up, essentially, of the hedges, thickets, trees isolated and aligned, managed tapes buffers, low walls, benches. This topic was the object of a European program BIODIVINE (www.biodivine.eu) associated with operations of demonstration in various vineyards in France, Spain and in Portugal. The communication aims to define the concept of agro-ecology and to formalize to leave the experiment France the application to the vine terroirs.

Background: Cervicitis, an infectious or noninfectious inflammation of the cervix, encompasses a wide range of clinical conditions, from asymptomatic infections to severe lesions, making its diagnosis difficult. Acute cervicitis may develop into pelvic inflammatory disease. In patients with cervicitis, current guidelines recommend testing for herpes simplex virus when external genital lesions are present. Here, we present the case of a patient with an atypical primary herpes simplex virus 2 infection manifesting as cervicitis without genital lesions., Case Presentation: A 29-year-old Caucasian woman was hospitalized for pelvic inflammatory disease. The patient complained of severe suprapubic pain, fever, and heavy vaginal discharge. The external genitalia were unremarkable, so empirical antibiotic treatment was initiated. Despite 48 hours of well-administered antibiotic therapy, her complaints persisted. Polymerase chain reaction for possible microbial causes was negative for Chlamydia trachomatis and Neisseria gonorrhoeae. There was no bacterial vaginosis. Repeat gynecological examinations with endovaginal ultrasound revealed an enlarged cervix, and pelvic magnetic resonance imaging supported a diagnosis of cervicitis. At this point, additional screening for other sexually transmitted infections and infectious disease-related etiologies of cervicitis was performed, and the polymerase chain reaction analysis of newly isolated samples was positive for herpes simplex virus 2. No antiviral treatment was initiated given the delay in diagnosing herpes simplex virus 2 infection and the slow but spontaneous abatement of symptoms., Conclusion: Herpes simplex virus infection should be considered as a possible cause of cervicitis, even in the absence of typical genital lesions. Early detection of herpes simplex virus allows early treatment, helping to reduce the duration and severity of symptoms and therefore potentially reducing recurrences and improving disease control. The study was designed to assess the accuracy of contrast-enhanced balanced steady-state free precession (cine-SSFP) CMR imaging sequences to exhibit myocardial hyperemia in acute myocarditis, which has for a long time been investigated in some centers using early gadolinium enhancement (EGE) sequence. Contrast-enhanced cine-SSFP (CESSFP) sequences were compared to precontrast cine-SSFP sequences to calculate the early cine-contrast enhancement in 36 consecutive patients with acute myocarditis and 36 controls matched for age and gender. Four-chamber views images were obtained in each subject before and after gadolinium injection. Absolute and relative left ventricular myocardial enhancement of the overall myocardium, then separately of the lateral wall and interventricular septum was analyzed in telediastole. Myocarditis patients displayed higher cine-SSFP absolute enhancement than controls (overall left ventricular myocardium 2.38 ± 0.33 vs 1.84 ± 0.31; lateral wall 2.45 ± 0.35 vs 1.83 ± 0.32; and septum 2.26 ± 0.29 vs 1.82 ± 0.29, p < 0.0001 for all). Less significant differences were observed for the relative enhancement (p < 0.05 for all). Using ROC curves, the optimal threshold value of absolute enhancement to diagnose acute myocarditis was 2.05 (sensitivity: 86%; specificity: 81%). Given the simplicity of use, contrast-enhanced cine-SSFP sequences should be used as an additional diagnostic tool to detect hyperemia in acute myocarditis patients., (© 2022. Background: The immune system of milk protects against infections and guides immune system development. A system-level understanding of milk immune activity is critical for research into infant infectious disease risk and lifelong health., Research Aim: To describe a protocol to characterize immune activity in human milk via in vitro stimulation for use in population-based (rather than clinical) research., Methods: This study proceeded in two phases, each with a cross-sectional design. Human milk specimens were incubated for 24 hr at 37 °C in mammalian cell culture medium with stimuli (e.g., Salmonella enterica ) in a CO 2 -enriched environment. Immune responses to stimuli were characterized as the change in cytokine: [stimulated]/[baseline]. Predictors of cytokine responses were evaluated with generalized linear models., Results: Patterns were detectable across mother-child dyads: Interleukin-6 responses to stimuli were generally positively associated with child age and with maternal autoimmune disease., Conclusions: Our method allows characterization of pro-inflammatory milk immune activity in vitro in population-based (rather than clinical) research settings. In vitro activity has a system-level interpretation and is likely to be of broad utility in global health research in settings with high infectious disease risk, where understanding the immune system of milk is critical to understanding maternal and child health.

Objective: To qualitatively and quantitatively compare T2-weighted MR imaging of the liver using volumetric spin-echo with sampling perfection with application-optimized contrast using different flip angle evolutions (SPACE) with conventional turbo spin-echo (TSE) sequence for fat-suppressed T2-weighted MR imaging of the liver., Materials and Methods: Thirty-three patients with suspected focal liver lesions had SPACE MR imaging and conventional fat-suppressed TSE MR imaging. Images were analyzed quantitatively by measuring the lesion-to-liver contrast-to-noise ratio (CNR), and the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of main focal hepatic lesions, hepatic and splenic parenchyma and qualitatively by evaluating the presence of vascular, respiratory motion and cardiac artifacts. Wilcoxon signed rank test was used to search for differences between the two sequences., Results: SPACE MR imaging showed significantly greater CNR for focal liver lesions (median=22.82) than TSE MR imaging (median=14.15) (P<.001). No differences were found for SNR of hepatic parenchyma (P=.097), main focal hepatic lesions (P=.35), and splenic parenchyma (P=.25). SPACE sequence showed less artifacts than TSE sequence (vascular, P<.001; respiratory motion, P<.001; cardiac, P<.001) but needed a longer acquisition time (228.4 vs. 162.1s; P<.001)., Conclusion: SPACE MR imaging provides a significantly increased CNR for focal liver lesions and less artifacts by comparison with the conventional TSE sequence. These results should stimulate further clinical studies with a surgical standard of reference to compare the two techniques in terms of sensitivity for malignant lesions., (Copyright © 2013 Elsevier Ireland Ltd. The changes in long-chain fatty acid oxidation during the first 24 h after birth were studied in isolated rabbit hepatocytes and liver mitochondria. The eightfold increase in this oxidation which occurs in hepatocytes between birth and 24 h was not triggered by a concomitant decrease in long-chain fatty acid esterification. Indeed, in isolated hepatocytes from 24-h-old rabbits, the 75% inhibition of the oxidation by 2-tetradecylglycidic acid, resulted in a total redirection of oleate metabolized towards triacylglycerol synthesis. Polarographic measurements of mitochondrial respiration showed that oxidative phosphorylation and respiratory chain capacity were fully functional at birth. By contrast, in liver mitochondria isolated from newborn rabbits, the rate of oxygen consumption from palmitoyl-L-carnitine was 60% higher than from palmitoyl-CoA. Similarly palmitoyl-CoA oxidation was increased 1.5-fold in isolated mitochondria from 24-h-old rabbits. These results were in agreement with the twofold increase in the activity of hepatic carnitine palmitoyltransferase I between birth and 24 h. However it is unlikely that the twofold increase in this enzyme activity totally explained the eightfold increase in long-chain fatty acid oxidation in isolated newborn rabbit hepatocytes. It was shown that the rate of the oxidation in isolated hepatocytes was inversely related to the rate of lipogenesis. Nevertheless, malonyl-CoA concentration per se is probably not the factor involved in the regulation of the oxidation between birth and 24 h, since a 90% decrease in hepatic malonyl-CoA concentration was not associated with a stimulation of long-chain fatty acid oxidation. The more likely mechanism was the 30-fold decrease in the sensitivity of carnitine palmitoyltransferase I to malonyl-CoA inhibition.

Ketogenesis from endogenous fatty acids or from exogenous octanoate has been studied in isolated hepatocytes from fetal. 24-h-old newborn and adult rabbit. In fed adult rabbits, endogenous ketogenesis is low and increases sixfold in the presence of 2 mM octanoate. At birth, endogenous ketogenesis is low and markedly increases 24 h after birth but, in both cases, the addition of 2 mM octanoate does not increase the rates of ketone body production. Hepatocytes isolated from 24-h-old newborn or fed adult rabbits and incubated with [1-14C]octanoate show a preferential channeling of fatty acid into oxidation (84-92% of octanoate metabolized). In contrast, esterification represents 43% of the amount of octanoate metabolized at birth. Chromatographic analysis of labelled triacylglycerols shows that 76 +/- 2% of labelled fatty acids are identified as octanoate and all of the radioactivity in the octanoate peak is due to the carboxyl carbon. In hepatocytes from term fetus, the low capacity for octanoate oxidation is associated with a high capacity for esterification, whatever the octanoate concentration in the medium. Octanoate activated to octanoyl-CoA in the cytosol of fetal hepatocyte is not oxidized in the mitochondria since carnitine acyltransferase I has a low activity at birth in the rabbit. This suggests that only a part of the octanoate pool is activated outside the mitochondria. Factors involved in the direct esterification of octanoate into triacylglycerols in term fetal hepatocytes are discussed.

The metabolic consequences of a prolonged gestation (35 vs 32 days) have been studied in the rabbit fetus. Gestation was prolonged by daily subcutaneous injections of progesterone (1.5 mg.kg-1) from day 28 to 34. In control animals, progesterone was injected from day 25 or 28 to day 31 of gestation. When the capacities for gluconeogenesis and fatty acid oxidation, measured on isolated hepatocytes, are normally low in the term control fetus and increase only within the first 24 h after birth, these capacities appear high in the postmature fetus. The rate of glucose production from lactate is 4-fold higher in the postmature fetus than in the normal term fetus. The rate of ketone body production from oleate is also 5-fold higher in the postmature fetus, which results from a switch on of the partition of oleate into esterification and oxidation: 8% of [1-14C]oleate is oxidized in term fetus hepatocytes, but 34% in postmature fetus hepatocytes. As a similar rate of lipogenesis takes place in both stages, this metabolic change could be explained by a 5-fold lower sensitivity of carnitine palmitoyltransferase I to the inhibition by malonyl-coenzyme A. Postmaturity decreases plasma insulin concentrations by 45% and increases plasma glucagon concentrations by 50% which, in turn, induces a 3-fold decrease in the plasma insulin:glucagon molar ratio. As previously shown in fasted or diabetic adult rat, this hormonal change might be a likely candidate for an enhancement of gluconeogenic and ketogenic capacity in the liver of the postterm rabbit fetus.
