In this paper, we present a new methodology of clothing engineering construction for the medical application. Project “BIOAKOD” intends to propose clothing solutions for elderly people with dermatological defects. This purpose requires a particular concept of clothing because of the additional functionality expected in the clothing. It means that the proposed clothing needs to cover a human body in an aesthetic way and gives comfort of use it, and it should also bring an adding value in health treatment of people with dermatosis (psoriasis)..

Phase change materials (PCM) are very useful in many fields due to their capacity to absorbe and release heat energy when it is necessary. In this paper it was managed to microencapsulate 100% biodegradable PCMs to apply them into textile fiber in order to regulate its temperature. The microencapsulation method used in the present work was solvent evaporation with oil-in-water emulsification. Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) was conducted to confirm the successful microencapsulation. Differential Scanning Calorimeter (DSC) was used to evaluate thermal properties of the core material and also efficience of the microencapsulation. Coconut oil and bee wax were used as PCM due to their melting point (Coconut oil - 23°C, Beeswax – 60°C) and, Polylactide (PLA) and Ethyl cellulose (EC) as shell materials because of their biodegradable nature. The microPCMs were applied onto the non-woven PLA with the help of a binder which in this case was calcium alginate and chitosan and then it was confirmed by SEM the microcapsules were inside the fabric and stick them to it. The thermal regulating properties of modified textiles were investigated by an IR camera. The results obtained from thermal analysis of samples showed that the temperature of the unmodified sample decreases faster than the modified sample.

The objective of the present study was to assess the antimicrobial effectiveness of silver- and copper-modified polylactide (PLA)–poly(dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate) (PDMAEMA) nonwovens used as materials for the production of air purifying respirators. The antimicrobial activity of six types of PLA nonwovens, with different PDMAEMA, Ag, and Cu contents, were tested using the ATCC 100 method. Microorganisms were isolated from the air in 12 workplaces within composting plants, tanneries, and museums. Dominant bacterial and fungal species were identified using 16S RNA and ITS1/2 molecular analysis, respectively. Air samples collected from the composting plant and tannery were highly contaminated with bacteria, while those from museums with fungi (103–104 CFU/m3). We identified potentially pathogenic microorganisms from the following genera: Bacillus, Corynebacterium, Pseudomonas, Candida, Aspergillus, Penicillium, Scopulariopsis, and Paecilomyces. PLA nonwovens containing 5.1% poly(dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate) and 2.7% Ag or 3.8% Cu exhibited good antimicrobial properties (R > 99.9%) against the pathogenic strains found in the above workplaces. This paper presents methods for the preparation of systems composed of polylactide (PLA) nonwoven and selected bioacceptable polymers such as poly(acrylic acid) (PAA), Carbopol, poly(N,N-dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate), (PDAMA), alginic acid (AlgA), chitosan (CHN) and gelatin. The modification was performed by the method of padding or entrapping. The possibility of further modification by the layer-by-layer (LbL) deposition method was also examined. The moisture absorption and water retention by the systems obtained were determined. Changes in the surface electric charge under the influence of the layers successively deposited and the biological activity of selected systems were examined. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
